EastEnders legend Anita Dobson lands role in children’s show Dodger

OHMYGOSSIP — Anita Dobson has landed a role in children’s show ‘Dodger’.
The 73-year-old actress – who is best known for her role as Angie Watts in ‘EastEnders’ in the 1980s – will appear in a Christmas special of the series, which serves as a prequel to the events of Charles Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’, but she has remained tight-lipped about her character.
She said: “My next big role is in ‘Dodger’ in the Christmas special so that’s quite nice. I don’t want to say anything about my character … wait and see! It’s surprising to still be acting. I’m still here – hallelujah!”
Anita – who has been married to Queen legend Brian May for over 20 years and has appeared in musicals such as ‘Chicago’ and ‘Wicked’ since her time on the BBC soap opera – will join former ‘Doctor Who’ actor Christopher Eccleston and ‘Shameless’ star David Threlfall, who have both been regular cast members of ‘Dodger’ over the course of its first series.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star famously appeared in the Christmas Day episode of ‘EastEnders’ back in 1986 – which pulled in a record audience of 30.15 million and saw her character receive divorce papers from husband Den – and joked she has a habit of appearing on screen and stage throughout the festive period.
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV Column: “I seem to do Christmas specials a lot! I’m big on panto as well. I watch them sometimes, too. It depends how much I loved doing it.”
The first series of ‘Dodger’ is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.

Scarlett Moffatt used to ‘suppress’ her facial tics

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Moffatt used to “suppress” her facial tics.
The 31-year-old TV star struggled with repeated facial spasms when she was a child and admitted she would spend “hours” screaming at herself in the mirror trying to get her face to stay straight.
She said: “I remember I would spend hours in front of the mirror screaming and trying to get my face straight or trying to make sure I wasn’t having facial tics.
“Adults around me would say things like ‘try not to do that’ and obviously now I realise I was suppressing them.
“As soon as I’d get home, they’d come out more because at school, I really tried to suppress them. I remember at the time feeling like you’re trying to hold hiccups in but you’re just like no, it’s going to come out. It was that sort of feeling.”
However, the former ‘Gogglebox’ star – who has been dating policeman Scott Dobinson since 2019 – was inspired by her struggles to create a Channel 4 documentary to uncover the potential causes of Tourette’s.
The star admitted that while it was a “hard” process, she would like to do more factual programmes in the future.
She said: “I just felt like it was something I wanted to investigate and luckily the telly powers that be allowed that to happen. I’m so pleased that I’ve done it, I feel like I’ve learned the most I’ve ever learned in TV making this documentary. Documentaries are hard!
“I feel like the list [of topics to cover] is endless. I really enjoyed making this one because it was close to my heart and I feel like when you can relate to people, they know that whenever you’re asking difficult questions, there is no malice in it and no pre-judgement because you’ve been there yourself. Later on in my career I’d like to tackle things that maybe haven’t affected me personally, but I think while I’m still becoming a newfound member of the Louis Theroux and Stacey Dooley club!”
‘Britain’s Tourette’s Mystery: Scarlett Moffatt Investigates’ is available to stream now on All4.

4 Love Island bombshells to enter the villa

OHMYGOSSIP — Four new bombshells are to enter the ‘Love Island’ villa in tonight’s (20.07.22) episode.
Footballer Jamie Allen, 27, Brazilian social media influencer Nathalia Campos, 23, model Reece Ford, 23, and dancer Lacey Edwards, 25, will shock the Islanders when they rock up later this evening.
In tonight’s episode, Davide Sanclimenti, 27, tells the lads that he and Ekin-Su Culculoglu, 27, are “really strong”, and the soap star laughs he was “buzzing” at the mention of the name Nathalia.
Operations manager Nathalia has vowed to bring some “fun, flirtation and fire” into the villa, and the new bombshell admits none of the Islanders should be surprised if she approaches any of the guys.
She says: “I am quite competitive and if I was to approach a guy no-one should be shocked or it shouldn’t be surprising, it’s pretty normal given the circumstances.”
Footballer Jamie also insists he won’t have any issues “upsetting” any of the current crop of Islanders if it means getting what he wants.
He says: “Absolutely, I play football every single day and in terms of stepping on people’s toes we are all in there for the same reason so I wouldn’t have a problem upsetting a few people.
“I am coming in a bit later so I probably will upset a few lads but you gotta do what you gotta do.”
Reece heads into the villa after never having a girlfriend before, but that may not be an issue as he is also the official body double of France footballer Kylian Mbappé.
Asked if he has any claims to fame, he says: “I am Kylian Mbappé’s official body double, he’s one of the most famous footballers in the world right now.”
What’s more, Lacey has vowed to give her all to land herself a guy.
She says: “I am definitely competitive, probably too much even at mini golf. I’ve grown up at auditions with a thousand girls competing for five places and if you don’t want it and you’re not competitive, there’s no point showing up.
“I feel like it’s the same with guys within this context, we’ve all gone in to find someone and just because I am coming in later does not mean that I am not going to give it my all. There’s no problem with stepping on toes, I am a dancer, I can avoid them.”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper has been hospitalised after taking a ‘very serious’ turn

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper has been hospitalised after taking a “very serious” turn for the worse.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ host has taken a break from the ITV breakfast news programme and her Smooth radio show to be by her after her 54-year-old husband’s bedside in hospital who is “seriously unwell” – which included being in a coma and unable to get out of bed, speak and care for himself – following his battle with COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic.
According to a source to the Sun’s Bizarre Showbiz column, the 55-year-old broadcaster’s husband “has been taken back to hospital this morning in a very serious condition.
“The family are very worried about him but Derek is in the best hands.
“Kate is by his side and is keeping it together as best she can. She’s a total professional and devoted to her work – both on Good Morning Britain and Smooth – but she had no choice but to step away this week to be there with him.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for her and their family.”
Recently, Kate – who has made two ITV documentaries, ‘Finding Derek’ and ‘Caring For Derek’ about their ordeal – spoke about how “exhausted” after ferrying her husband to and from doctor’s appointments and needing constant care from medical professionals.
Previously, she has spoken about how they cope as family and how their children -16-year-old daughter Darcey and 12-year-old son Billy – have “changed” during the more than two years since he tested positive for the virus, which took his ability to speak away from him.
Kate said: “I try to embrace life, especially the kids as we’ve had two and a half years of it.
“Their lives have changed and they need to do things.
“I’ve shown Derek pictures of Darcey in her prom dress, and now he can press one button and FaceTime her.
“It was emotional and strange seeing her all grown up on the night.”

Love Island bosses are working on a new dating show for middle-aged people looking for love

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ bosses are working on a new dating show for middle-aged people looking for love.
The proposed dating programme – operating under the working title of ‘Your Mum, My Dad’ by production company, Lifted Entertainment – will see contestants in their 40s and 50s be put in pairs at a retreat, complete with assistance from their adult kids and is set to debut in 2023.
A secret source told the Sun’s Bizarre Showbiz column: “Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down.
“This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime.
“And, let’s face it, they know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous — all ingredients regular Love Island sometimes lacks.”
This idea – which is currently in development stages – comes after concerns have been made about the maturity of some of the contestants.
Women’s Aid and Refuge, domestic abuse charities have voiced concerned about some of the men’s “toxic” behaviour.
A spokesperson for Women’s Aid said: “At Women’s Aid we are being tagged into a stream of Twitter posts, with viewers of Love Island highlighting the misogyny and controlling behaviour being shown on screen.
“This is clearly more than talking about any individual contestants, and a programme based around the formation of romantic relationships must have guidelines on what behaviour is acceptable and unacceptable in those relationships.
“We are talking to ITV, and they have shared with us information on their inclusion training, but what appears to be missing is specific information on abusive relationships and an understanding of controlling behaviour in relationships.”

Josh Le Grove rejected Danica Taylor because he was ‘was getting the ick’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’s Josh Le Grove says he rejected Danica Taylor because she gave him the “ick”.
The ousted contestant admitted that “certain immature” aspects of Danica’s personality left him cold and he decided to end their burgeoning romance, after returning to the main villa with her from Casa Amor.
Speaking on the ‘Reality with Will Njobvu’ podcast he said: “Maybe just too much energy for me right then. I thought ‘this isn’t going to work for me on the outside, so I’m looking for something that’s gonna work on the outside.
“In there you’re taking intimacy out of the equation, so you need to be able to chill with that person and not get bored.
“I didn’t get bored, but I felt like I was clashing a little bit, and I was getting the ick a little bit. Nothing bad, just certain bits… listen, she’s a beautiful girl.”
And Josh also rejected claims he only used Danica to get to the main villa.
He said: “No, I’ve been asked that question a lot, if you speak to any of the Casa boys they’ll tell you that.
“I said ‘if I get in [ to the villa] I get in, if I don’t, I don’t’. On the outside I have fun so when I went in I was like ‘I need to be with someone I can chill with on the outside.”
Speaking after his eviction from the villa, Josh said he wished he had given his relationship with Danica a better shot.
He said: “I feel like what I’d seen physically and on a personality level, it was Danica I had my eye on.
“It was more about getting in there and seeing what the vibe was like with them. As well as being attracted to her (Danica) – I like the confidence and the fact she gave it back a bit. She would hold her own, she had an opinion on something and would stick to it.
“I feel like if I had the chance to do it again, I would put my immature ways aside and try and give it a proper shot with Danica. I feel like I slipped back into my old ways and got scared and then tried to pursue something else.
“I feel like maybe I could have given it a better shot and then decided but I feel like although it turned out the way it did, it was a good lesson.”

Jordan Peele rejects claim he is the ‘best horror director of all time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Peele has rejected a claim that he is the “best horror director of all time”.
The 43-year-old filmmaker – whose movies include ‘Us’ and ‘Get Out’ – has just released his latest film ‘Nope’ but he doesn’t believe the three films are enough to qualify him for the title of best horror director.
Comic book creator Adam Ellis tweeted: “I know this is a hot take but at what point do we declare Jordan Peele the best horror director of all time? Can you think of another horror director that had 3 great films, let alone 3 in a row? I can’t.”
And, while Jordan was flattered, he insisted that he can never compete with ‘Halloween’ director John Carpenter.
He replied: “Sir, please put the phone down I beg you. Sorry. I love your enthusiasm but I will just not tolerate any John Carpenter slander!”
Meanwhile, Jordan revealed he was influenced to write ‘Nope’ during 2020 when the world was “going through so much” such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement that was sparked by the murder of George Floyd, a Black man who died after Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes.
He said: “We were going through so much. So much of what this world was experiencing was this overload of spectacle, and kind of a low point of our addiction to spectacle.”
Jordan also spoke about his dedication to alternatives to “the Black perspective” across the genre.
He told GQ Hype: “I’ve been somebody who’s dedicated so much time to try and reintroduce what the Black perspective can be in a horror film. That puts me in very dark places in my imagination and we were in a very dark place and are [still] in a very dark place…It became a very important thing to figure out how to bring joy into it because, well, I felt like I’ve hit the other things.”

Luke Evans to voice Scrooge in animated adaptation of A Christmas Carol

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Evans will portray Scrooge in an animated retelling of ‘A Christmas Carol’.
The ‘Beauty and the Beast’ actor will lend his voice to the titular miser in Netflix’s upcoming CGI animated musical, while Olivia Colman will voice the Ghost of Christmas Past and Trevor Dion Nicholas will portray the Ghost of Christmas Present.
In addition, Johnny Flynn will play Scrooge’s overworked clerk Bob Cratchit, with Jonathan Pryce as his late business partner Jacob Marley, and Jessie Buckley on board as Isabel Fezziwig.
Fre Fee will voice Harry Huffam, Tom Jenkins will be portrayed by Giles Terera and James Cosmo will star as Mr. Fezziwig.
‘Monster High: Welcome to Monster High’ filmmaker Stephen Donnelly will direct ‘Scrooge: A Christmas Carol’ – which will debut on the streaming service in December – and admitted it has been a “fascinating challenge” to work on the new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic story.
He said: “It’s been a fascinating challenge to adapt such a beloved and often-told story. I think this version will give those who know ‘A Christmas Carol’ all the things they expect, but not as they’ve experienced them before.
“There are more than enough psychedelic, time-travelling and musical surprises to keep those familiar with the story on the edge of their seats, while the authentic essence of Dickens has been retained for those coming completely fresh to the classic tale.
“I can’t wait to share this new version of ‘A Christmas Carol’ with the world and sincerely hope audiences embrace it this year and for many to come.”
The film will feature re-imagined songs from the late Leslie Bricusse, which have been arranged and produced by Jeremy Holland-Smith, who has also provided the original score.

Alan Fletcher had therapy to cope with Neighbours fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Fletcher claims his fame on ‘Neighbours’ took him to a “dark place”.
The veteran actor has portrayed Dr. Karl Kennedy on the Australian soap – which is due to end this week – since 1994 and he admitted the early days of his success on the programme saw his ego get out of control, and he eventually sought therapy to become less “selfish” after his wife, Jennifer Hansen, urged him to get help.
He said: “I wasn’t a good person to be around. I became selfish and things became too much about me, me, me.
“I needed therapy to get through this dark period.
“My wife said to me: ‘You’re not in a good place, you require professional help’.”
Alan began to struggle when trying to juggle the demands of his filming schedule for the show with continuing his beloved photography business.
He added to The Sun newspaper: “I love photography so much and hadn’t wanted to let the business I’d built up go, even after I’d landed the Neighbours job but in the end, I completely blew myself out and needed assistance.
“I had to get a level playing field back in my life – I needed to take a breath and think a little bit about where I sat in the world, in order to achieve some proportion.
Alan recently admitted it was “very hard” not to cry when he filmed the final scenes for ‘Neighbours’.
He said: “It was very hard to fight back tears as we were saying the dialogue for what was going to be the last moments of the show.
“There were hundreds of people in the studio to watch that final piece of filming. We had some speeches, I said a few words. There were some tears. There were some celebrations.”
‘Neighbours’ final episode will air in the UK on 29 July on Channel 5.

John Torode and Gregg Wallace ‘don’t hang out’ much away from MasterChef

OHMYGOSSIP — John Torode admits he and Gregg Wallace “don’t hang out” much outside work.
The ‘MasterChef’ co-stars are a formidable pairing on screen, but the 56-year-old star admitted while they have “the odd lunch”, they’re “so different” as people away from the cameras.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “It’s an interesting dynamic because we’re so different. But that’s what makes it work so well.
“We’re very independent from each other. We don’t hang out with each other outside work apart from the odd lunch.
“We have our own tastes in clothes, music and art and I suppose we can disagree on all those things, like we do on a lot of the things we taste.”
However, their love for food is one aspect of their lives that brings them closer together.
John added: “Something we do agree on is that when food is cooked really well and presented beautifully, it’s a fantastic thing
“And that’s been the success of the show, I think.”
The pair – who recently received MBEs – have been working together on ‘MasterChef’ since 2005, and John insisted neither of them have changed that much since they first appeared on TV, although he did mention his co-star’s fitness drive.
He said: “I think we’re both the same. I suppose Gregg will say he got a bit chubby and now he’s all about getting fit. But I think we’re both up and down.
“After 18 years of eating lots of high carb, high fat, high salt exotic foods, it starts to take its toll a little bit. So staying fit is important.”
Opening up on his change of lifestyle in 2020 – which saw him lose four stone – Gregg explained: “I’d never suggest a diet that was going to leave you hungry. It’s about filling yourself up with good food with good ingredients and exercise.
“I know I look good now compared to those days when I had a beer belly, but I also feel incredible. I feel like I have knocked at least 10 years off.”

Love Island bosses working on ‘mature’ dating show for older romantics

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ producers are planning a new dating show for people in their 40s and 50s.
Lifted Entertainment – the studio behind the hugely popular ITV2 series – is reportedly looking to make a pilot for a fresh programme sending more mature romantics on a retreat where they will be “coupled up” by their own kids.
According to The Sun newspaper, the show has a working title ‘Your Mum, My Dad’ and is set to start filming later this year before hopefully airing in 2023.
An insider said: “Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down.
“This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime.
“And, let’s face it, they know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous – all ingredients regular ‘Love Island’ sometimes lacks.”
Plans for a new show comes weeks after it was revealed ‘Love Island’ – which is hosted by Laura Whitmore – will return for two seasons in 2023.
As well as the regular summer series, the year will kick off with a special winter edition in January.
Paul Mortimer – Director of Reality Commissioning and Controller, ITV2 – said: “‘Love Island’ has once again proved itself to be the nation’s favourite talking point across the summer, and we’re always blown away by the show’s ongoing impact and talkability amongst our younger audience.
“So, rather than just serving up a Summer of Love, we thought we’d make 2023 the Year of Love with two full series of the show.”
The programme – which ranks as TV’s biggest show for 16-34 year olds – will return to South Africa for the first time since 2020’s winter edition in a brand new villa.
Mike Spencer – Executive Producer at Lifted Entertainment – added: “After eight brilliant series, we are excited to be serving up two helpings of love in 2023 by kicking off in January at a stunning new villa in South Africa.
“We can look forward to more romances, bromances and everything in between as we embark on another epic year of love.”

Good Morning Britain pay tribute to Kate Garraway as she steps back to be with her husband

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Good Morning Britain’ team has sent love to Kate Garraway after her husband Derek Draper was hospitalised.
The 55-year-old presenter pulled out of Thursday’s episode (21.07.22) of the ITV breakfast show to be with her husband, who is said to be in a “very serious condition” as he continues to suffer following his battle with COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic.
An ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: “Kate is taking some time off work over the next few days, and is hoping to be back to her normal presenting duties as soon as possible.”
On Thursday morning, Kate’s co-stars Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins paid tribute to their fellow presenter.
Ben said: “We are missing a member of the team, aren’t we?”
Charlotte replied: “We are, yes. So Kate’s not here. She’s taking some time out to be with Derek at the moment so we’re sending her lots of love.
“Lots of you have been in touch with messages of support, so we wish him well.”
Ben added: “Thank you for those messages, we’ll definitely pass them on. You know how much Kate appreciates all the support that she gets and fingers crossed Derek will be home as soon as possible.”

Peter Jackson plotting another Beatles film

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Jackson is planning to make another Beatles film.
The ‘Lord of the Rings’ director has been in touch with surviving band members Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr about making another project.
Peter helmed the documentary series ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ in 2021. It followed the making of the Fab Four’s 1970 album ‘Let It Be’ and has been nominated for five Emmy Awards but Jackson said his new work will be “very different”.
The filmmaker told Deadline: “I’m talking to The Beatles about another project, something very, very different than ‘Get Back’.
“We’re seeing what the possibilities are, but it’s another project with them. It’s not really a documentary… and that’s all I can really say.”
Peter spent four years going through 130 hours of audio and 57 hours of video footage for ‘Get Back’ but said it was less stressful than making the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy – which were shot simultaneously in New Zealand between 1999 and 2000.
He explained: “It wasn’t as intense as making three ‘Lord of the Rings’ back to back, but it was four years with a pandemic in the middle of it all.
“We are never in a position where we have to do anything, but we’ve got a few things percolating.”
Jackson also revealed that he has a new movie in the pipeline but doesn’t have the necessary technology to bring to the big screen at the moment.
He said: “It’s a live-action movie, but it needs technology that doesn’t quite exist at the moment, so we’re in the middle of developing the technology to allow it to happen.
“I’m trying to anticipate what I might be able to do, before it even exists. They’re not fantasy epics, but they’re pretty interesting.”

Simon McQuoid returning to direct Mortal Kombat sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon McQuoid is to return as director for the ‘Mortal Kombat’ sequel.
The Australian director made his debut behind the camera on the 2021 film and insiders now say that he is set to return for the follow-up.
‘Mortal Kombat’ is based on the popular video game series of the same name and is a reboot for the film series after two movies were released during the 1990s.
Last year’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ film topped the box office figures and ranks among the most popular films on the streaming service HBO Max.
The flick was one of the first to gauge the interests of audiences as cinemas reopened following the pandemic and the results came as a surprise to many.
Studio executives were quick to get a sequel in development and one of their first acts was to get McQuoid back on board as director. Jeremy Slater will be writing the screenplay for the sequel.
The first ‘Mortal Kombat’ game was released in 1992 and spawned a hugely successful series – with the most recent title ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ released on consoles in 2019.
McQuoid is a trained graphic designer who has worked in the video game industry on titles such as ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Halo 3’. The filmmaker currently has several projects in development – including the sci-fi thriller ‘Omega’.
Simon previously banned any talk of a sequel on the set of the first film.
He said: “None of us used the S-word. We’d never talk about it in any depth whatsoever because we feel like we have to put all our energy into this film.
“That being said, if the fans want another one, that’s not for us to decide; that’s for the fans to decide.
“Then, we need a couple of joiner pieces that we know can lead us somewhere because there’s a treasure trove of stuff that’s just sitting there.”

Freema Agyeman is leaving New Amsterdam days after being cast in Dreamland

OHMYGOSSIP — Freema Agyeman is leaving ‘New Amsterdam’ after being cast in ‘Dreamland’.
The 43-year-old actress – who will appear alongside Lily Allen in the upcoming Sky comedy – was announced for the new project on Tuesday (19.07.22) and the next day she revealed she won’t be returning as Dr. Helen Sharpe for the NBC medical drama’s fifth season.
In a lengthy Instagram message to her “Dam Fam”, she shared a selfie and wrote: “First off I would like to say a huge heartfelt THANK YOU for your unending, dedicated and deliciously ferocious support!
“I feel very fortunate to have connected with so many of you, while rolling around in the skin of Ms. Helen Sharpe, and witness every ebb and flow of your emotional investment in her. What a ride! Thank you for being on it with me.
“She has meant so much to me, but the time has come for me to hang up her white coat, as I officially share the news that I will not be returning for the final season of New Amsterdam.”
Although Freema is “saddened” by her departure, she’s still going to be keeping up as a far, and she has encouraged viewers to make up their own ending for her character.
She continued: “While I am saddened, I am also incredibly excited to see how the story concludes as a fan of the series.
“It has been such a joy to play Dr. Helen Sharpe for 4 seasons – those magnificent writers built a badass!
“Beyond grateful for the opportunity to tell some of her stories! Fanfic – it’s over to you to tell the rest!! (sic)”
The reason for her departure isn’t clear, but it comes after she and Lily were cast as sisters’ Trish and Mel respectively in a comedy based on a BAFTA-winning short about a woman attending the baby shower of her heavily pregnant sister in Margate, with news of her own yet to reveal.
Freeman will play Trish, who is pregnant for the third time with her partner Spence (Kiell Smith- Bynoe) while Lily appears as Mel, who makes an unexpected reappearance back into the family’s lives.

ITV defends Laura Whitmore after hundreds of Ofcom complaints over Love Island Aftersun

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV has defended Laura Whitmore after hundreds of complaints to Ofcom over ‘Love Island Aftersun’.
The ITV2 dating show’s spin-off programme has been hit with 427 complaints about Sunday’s episode (17.07.22), mostly related to comments about Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and her claim that “something happened with George”, as well as Jacques O’Neill’s first TV interview since quitting the series.
In a statement, the broadcaster told Metro.co.uk: “Laura is the presenter of the show, and part of that role is to pose questions to the panel and discuss events in the villa.
“We do not condone trolling against either our host or our Islanders and any subsequent elevation of these comments.”
They also responded to viewers’ issues with their interview with Jacques, and insisted his “welfare was prioritised” throughout the process.
They added: “We had various measures in place to ensure Jacques’ welfare was prioritised at all times ahead of and during his appearance on Aftersun.
“This included a full briefing with show producers to outline the show’s content and likely questioning, a conversation with Laura before and after the show was recorded, and chaperoning from both a welfare producer and a member of his family while he was in studio.
“Should an Islander not wish to participate in the Aftersun recording, we would always respect that decision.”
Ekin-Su and George have both denied anything happened between them, but over the weekend Laura prompted a conversation about them.
She laughed: “Once again Ekin-Su swore that nothing happened with George and it seems Davide doesn’t believe her.”
Singer and panellist Tom Grennan quipped: “It deffo happened though, didn’t it.”
The conversation continued, prompting Ekin-Su’s friend – who is running her social media account – branding the discussion as “slut shaming”.
They wrote: “The fact that the slut shaming is being passed off as banter and good television is very concerning at this rate.”
Meanwhile, 2,481 viewers complained to Ofcom over some of the male contestants’ misogynistic behaviour.
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.
