Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack hint at a future outside of Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack hint at a future outside of the villa on tonight’s (19.07.22) episode of ‘Love Island’.
The 26-year-old senior microbiologist from Dublin admitted he is contemplating a move to London, where the 23-year-old hotel waitress – who he is currently coupled up with – lives.
Speaking about the future, Dami tells Indiyah: “I’ve been thinking about a lot of stuff, I think I am going to move to London.”
To which she replies: “I think you should, I think London would suit you, not just because I am there, it doesn’t sound like a shabby plan to be fair.”
He adds: “But before I make that plan, you have to come to Ireland.”
Dami – who viewers suggested also has good chemistry with Paige Thorne, a 24-year-old paramedic from Swansea, South Wales – has something else he wants to discuss with Indiyah.
Meanwhile, Billy Brown also has his future with Danica Taylor, 21, on his mind.
The 23-year-old roofing director confesses: “Now I am thinking, where is this going because if that click was going to come, it would have come…”
A game of ‘Song Marry Pie’ continues and the Islanders are invited to a VIP party with a surprise DJ set from Joel Corry.
However, host Laura Whitmore becomes a party pooper when she announces the public have been voting for their favourite boy and girl and the two boys and girls with the least votes, who are at risk of being dumped tonight.
She tells them: “Hello Islanders, how are you all doing? Having a good time? I am not here to join in on the fun sadly and I am afraid the party is over, could you all please line up by the pool.”
‘Love Island’ continues tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Domestic abuse charity in talks with ITV over ‘misogyny and controlling behaviour’ on ‘Love Island’

OHMYGOSSIP — A domestic abuse charity is in talks with ITV over “misogyny and controlling behaviour” it says has been displayed on ‘Love Island’.
Women’s Aid said “specific information on abusive relationships and an understanding of controlling behaviour in relationships” seems to be absent from the broadcaster’s “inclusive training” ahead of the ITV2 dating series.
The women’s charity Refuge issued a separate statement saying “gaslighting and coercive control” was being shown by this year’s male contestants.
Women’s Aid said on Tuesday (19.07.22): “At Women’s Aid we are being tagged into a stream of Twitter posts, with viewers of ‘Love Island’ highlighting the misogyny and controlling behaviour being shown on screen.
“This is clearly more than talking about any individual contestants, and a programme based around the formation of romantic relationships must have guidelines on what behaviour is acceptable and unacceptable in those relationships.
“We are talking to ITV, and they have shared with us information on their inclusion training, but what appears to be missing is specific information on abusive relationships and an understanding of controlling behaviour in relationships.”
Recent controversies have included fishmonger Luca Bish accusing his partner Gemma Owen of flirting with Billy Brown after he was shown clips of her during the ‘Movie Night’ challenge after the teenager repeatedly denied anything dramatic happened between them.
Davide Sanclimenti branded Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu a “liar” for her brief dalliance with George at Casa Amor even though he kissed two girls during the time away from his partner.
Dami Hope has also caused outrage for branding Summer Botwe “fake” and hitting out at Indiyah Polack after he had wandering eyes at sister villa Casa Amor.
Women’s charity Refuge said on Twitter in a statement: “The misogyny and casual sexism witnessed on this series of #LoveIsland is extremely concerning.
“The double standards, gaslighting and coercive control being displayed by the men in the villa is hugely problematic.”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

‘Love Island’ host Laura Whitmore quits high-profile presenting job

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore is quitting her high-profile radio hosting job.
The ‘Love Island’ presenter, 37, will step away from her Sunday morning show on BBC Radio 5 Live after this year’s series of the ITV2 dating show ends.
Heidi Dawson, controller of BBC Radio 5 Live, confirmed on Tuesday (19.07.22): “Laura has made the difficult decision to leave after a brilliant four years.
“We’d like to thank her for the energy, insight and humour she has brought to this programme and look forward to working with her again in the near future.”
A TV insider told The Sun on Tuesday night about mum-of-one Laura quitting the radio role: “Love Island has given her huge exposure and a healthy pay packet, and she’s now going to exploit that to the max.
“Laura has already hinted she has other projects in the pipeline and she can’t find the time to continue with all her roles.
“So something had to go, and it’s sad for listeners that this is what’s been jettisoned as she moves onwards and upwards.”
Laura, who shares a daughter with 34-year-old ‘Love Island’ narrator Iain Stirling launched her weekly programme ‘The Laura Whitmore Show’ on Radio 5 Live in 2018.
She started fronting ‘Love Island’ in 2020, followed by a contract from Nintendo to feature in one of their ads and a captain role on ITV2’s now-cancelled ‘Celebrity Juice’.
Last month, it was highlighted Laura had only appeared for 14 minutes during 27 hours of televised ‘Love Island’ footage, despite getting a rumoured £600,000 to host the show.
She said this week: “They see you on telly for 10 minutes, but they have no idea how much work has gone into that – especially with telly. Telly’s so different to radio.”

Love Island star Jay Younger ‘overlooked a connection’ with Paige Thorne in the villa

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Younger admits he “overlooked a potential connection” with Paige Thorne.
The ‘Love Island’ star – who was dumped from the show earlier this month – has suggested he moved too fast with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, and it may have cost him a chance to crack on with Paige.
He told Digital Spy: “We both realised, and I realised that actually I maybe overlooked a potential connection there with Paige.
“But that’s the biggest lesson I learned is people move at their own pace romantically and in life.”
Jay sparked plenty of drama in the villa after he and Ekin-Su had secret meetings behind Davide Sanclimenti’s back.
Now, the 28-year-old investment analyst has suggested they “match each other’s intensity”.
He added: “The biggest lesson I took from Love Island would probably be that people move at their own pace in terms of relationship building.
“I think I came in there and moved at quite a fast pace. I think Ekin and I matched each other’s intensity in that way.”
After he was evicted from the villa on July 11, Jay insisted he felt like it was his “time” to leave the show.
Reflecting on his romance with Ekin-Su, he said: “Ekin is obviously a beautiful lady, a very strong lady. I just thought she had a bit of a wild side to her and I thought, I’m here to have fun.
“She’s a really attractive girl, I got on well with her the best on our dates. I seemed to click with her instantly so I just thought, why not?”
And asked about his feelings about Ekin-Su and Davide being back together, he added: “Genuinely I’m so happy for them both. I see that Davide deep down really, really likes Ekin-Su.
“In a weird way, I think me not being there will allow Davide to actually trust her more. I feel like I was representing the past for them.
“Davide and I are good mates but he couldn’t fully invest with Ekin-Su, because he was like, I won’t forget what you did with Jay maybe.”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm weekdays and Sundays on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Neighbours star Rebekah Elmaloglou keen to join UK soap

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebekah Elmaloglou is up for joining a UK soap after ‘Neighbours’ ends.
The 48-year-old actress has played Terese Willis on the Aussie soap since 2013, and now that it’s set to come to an end this August after it was axed by bosses earlier this year, Rebekah has said she wouldn’t say no to a role in one of the UK’s long-running soap operas.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com, she said: “They’ve got some soaps in England, so to me they’ve got a huge, popular idea, massive.
“Go and work on a soap in the UK, why not? I don’t know which one, they’re all amazing. And they’ve all got such longevity like ‘Home and Away’ and ‘Neighbours’ had. There’s quite a few, isn’t there?”
As for which one, she said: “There’s ‘EastEnders’, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Hollyoaks’ and ‘Emmerdale’. I mean, it’s just amazing. I don’t know, whoever would have me really!”
Rebekah’s son Kai even landed a cameo role on Ramsay Street in 2020.
Former stars including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are returning to make an appearance in the last episode.
Kylie and Jason are set to reprise their roles as lovebirds Charlene and Scott Robinson, who featured on the show back in the 1980s.
Other stars who are going to be returning for the final episode include Ian Smith, Daniel MacPherson and Natalie Bassingthwaite.
Ian, 83, is returning as his beloved character Harold Bishop and said he’s thrilled to be going back to Erinsborough.
He said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be back. I’m the biggest sook under the sun.
“I’m going to be shocking on the last night that ‘Neighbours’ airs. It really will be an end of an era and I am so proud to have been a part of it.”
The final episode will air on August 1.

Amanda Seyfried ‘bent over backwards’ trying to land Arianda Grande’s Wicked role

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Seyfried “bent over backwards” to try and land the lead role in ‘Wicked’.
The 36-year-old actress – who has already starred in hit big screen musicals like ‘Mamma Mia!’ and the 2012 adaptation of ‘Les Miserables’ – went up against Ariana Grande for the role of Glinda the Good Witch and auditioned while shooting ‘The Dropout’.
She told Backstage: “Last summer, while I was playing Elizabeth [Holmes], on the weekends I was auditioning in person to play Glinda in the movie version of Wicked – because I wanted it that much.
“I was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, I have to play the last scene of The Dropout on Tuesday. I’ll give my Sunday to you’.
“I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life.”
Seyfried admitted the experience was still worthwhile, as she was able to realise how she has developed as a singer.
She added: “I think it also taught me how far I’ve come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove.
“Because ever since ‘Les Miz’ I was like, ‘I need to be better. I need to do better.’ So whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I’m finally prepared.”
She has made no secret of her desire to play Glinda on the big screen, and back in 2015 she spoke of her desire to be part of a potential film adaptation of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel.
With the film entering early stages of development at the time, she said: “I might be too old when they make it. Or if they make it sooner than later, maybe I’m not the right person.
“I just still – I want it. I want to present myself and be a good candidate.”
Meanwhile, director Jon M. Chu previously revealed he was moved to tears by Grande and Cynthia’s auditions for Glinda and Elphaba respectively.
Responding to a fan who called for the audition footage to be made public, Jon tweeted: “It’s SO good. The whole room was in tears.
“I think one of the most overlooked facts of the #WickedMovie Casting was that EVERYONE HAD to audition. NO straight offers they showed up!
“It was incredibly humbling to witness these actors spill their guts on the floor for this movie.”

Storm Reid’s next project is starring in and producing a coming-of-age movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Storm Reid is to star in and produce ‘Becoming Noble’.
The 19-year-old actress – who plays Gia Bennett, the younger sister of Zendaya’s Rue in HBO’s teen drama ‘Euphoria’ – has landed a new gig in the coming-of-age flick from ‘Just Beyond’ scribe Nneka Gerstle.
According to Deadline, the movie is in the works at Paramount Pictures.
It follows “high school senior Noble (Reid), who after finding out she is a Princess in an African nation, travels to her home country on the continent to discover her roots – and to determine if royal is something she really wants to be.”
Storm is producing with her mom Robyn Simpson under their A Seed and Wings Productions banner, the production firm they launched in 2013.
Cas Sigers Beedles will also produce.
It’s not known who will helm the film at this time.
Storm’s recent movie credits include last year’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ and 2020’s ‘The Invisible Man’.
Meanwhile, Storm previously said working with Oprah Winfrey was “amazing”.
Storm starred in Ava DuVernay’s Disney movie ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ alongside the likes of Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling, and said she was uplifted to have someone like the showbiz legend in her corner.
She said: “To work with Miss Oprah has been amazing and to have her in my corner, for her to inspire me and uplift me was amazing.
“But she actually told me, ‘Don’t waste energy on things you can’t change in life, when you can be using that energy on something that is positive in your life’.
“So that is like my life motto.”
Reid admitted it was the first time she had worked on a set with “so many women” and doesn’t think she will have the “privilege” to work with another predominately female cast.
She said: “This was the first set I’ve been on with so many women.
“I felt like everybody was represented on that set — it looked, like Miss Ava said, like the United Nations there.
“I hope that I’ll get to experience that again and I hope that Hollywood can normalise that, but I’m just not sure if I will have the privilege to experience that on the next set I go onto, which is unfortunate, but it may be true.”

End Violence Against Women Coalition calls out ‘misogynistic behaviour’ on Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — The End Violence Against Women (EVAW) Coalition has joined Women’s Aid and Refuge in calling out “misogynistic and abusive behaviour” on ‘Love Island’.
The UK-based coalition of individuals and organisations, which campaigns to end all forms of violence against women, has taken to Twitter to voice their concerns about some of the behaviours on the current series – which is hosted by Laura Whitmore – and called for change.
A series of tweets on the EVAW Coalition page read: “#LoveIsland is a cultural phenomenon, reaching millions of young people across the country. We join @WomensAid @RefugeCharity and viewers in calling out the unchecked misogynistic and abusive behaviour we see year after year
“From TV shows to the news, the media has a massive influence on our collective attitudes to sex and relationships.
It also has an important role to play in challenging harmful beliefs and behaviours rather than perpetuating them
“Popular culture has the power to create positive change and help build a world where abuse is no longer tolerated.
“With countless former #LoveIsland contestants speaking out about the endless racist and misogynistic abuse they face online, change has never been more needed”
It comes after domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid told how they are in talks with ITV about the latest series of ‘Love Island’ after viewers accused some of the Islanders of “misogyny” and “controlling behaviour”.
Teresa Parker, Women’s Aid communications chief, admitted it is “important to be talking” to the broadcaster about the issues, after a backlash from viewers over how some of the male contestants were acting towards the female Islanders.
She wrote on Twitter: “Really pleased to say that we @womensaid are now in discussions with @LoveIsland about the issues raised on the show – so important to be talking.”
A post on the Women’s Aid Twitter account read: “It’s a really positive move for us to be in discussion with the team at @LoveIsland about how we can work together moving forward, to address the issues and concerns raised. Thank you to our followers on Twitter for reaching out to us about this. #EndAbuseTogether”
Domestic abuse charity Refuge have also voiced their “increasing” concerns about the show.
In a series of tweets, they wrote: “Refuge is increasingly concerned about the misogynistic and abusive behaviours being displayed in this year’s series of #LoveIsland. Full response from Refuge CEO @RuthKDavison below
“Love Island has a huge audience, particularly amongst young people and Refuge urge the producers of the show to recognise and respond to abusive behaviour when it happens. Popular culture has an important role to play in challenging these behaviours rather than perpetuating them
“Gaslighting and emotional manipulation are types of behaviour that can displayed by perpetrators of domestic abuse. Coercive control is a form of domestic abuse and is a crime. That this behaviour appears to be being carried out by some men in the villa and
“broadcast as entertainment is extremely troubling and should be called out. Refuge is pleased to hear Love Island are now in discussions with @womensaid about starting to address these issues and Refuge would of course be pleased to input into these important discussions. (sic)”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Jacques O’Neill ‘turns down Celebs Go Dating offer’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacques O’Neill is said to have turned down £60,000 to take part in ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who quit the ITV2 dating show earlier this month because he was not feeling himself – has reportedly been approached by the E4 show’s bookers following his villa exit, but he is keen to wait for Paige Thorne, who he coupled up with during the series.
A source said: “It’s very early days and bookers for Celebs Go Dating have only really just got started.
“But an Islander always makes for a great signing and Jacques is a real stand-out, particularly because he’s already shown that he’s willing to put the work in and really change.
“That’ll make him a really credible candidate for the agency’s help, never mind be someone that fans would tune in for.”
While the 23-year-old rugby league player wants to keep himself available for 24-year-old paramedic Paige, she is currently coupled up with Adam Collard in the villa.
The source added to The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “But Jacques wants to wait for Paige so it may well be too late by the time she emerges.”
Jacques clashed with Adam during his time in the villa after the 26-year-old personal trainer started getting to know Paige when he appeared on the show as a bombshell earlier this month.
It is Adam’s second appearance on the programme after first starring in the 2018 series.
Following his ‘Love Island’ exit, Jacques has said appearing on the show was the “worst decision of [his] life”.
The sportsman – who was previously diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) – explained: “I thought if I don’t get myself out things could go horribly wrong and I could get physical.
“Doing ‘Love Island’ was the worst decision of my life. I was ready to break down. I was feeling so mentally drained, I just wanted to go home and get myself right.
“It broke me and I was already broken. I was crying my eyes out. I couldn’t cope.
“I was literally feeling awful. It was the worst I’d ever felt in my life.”
But he has received support from a number of former ‘Love Island’ stars.
He said: “A lot of past islanders have messaged me. It started with Liam Reardon, Faye Winter, they messaged me first, they explained what it would be like on the outside.
“I really appreciated that so much.”

Michael Pena to play astronaut Jose Hernandez in A Million Miles Away

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Pena is to play the astronaut Jose Hernandez in ‘A Million Miles Away’.
The 46-year-old actor has been tapped to appear in the drama from director Alejandra Marquez Abella for Amazon Studios.
The picture is based on Hernandez’s autobiography ‘Reaching for the Stars’. The late Bettina Gilois wrote the initial script with Abella and Hernan Jimenez working on subsequent drafts.
Mark Ciardi and Campbell McInnes are producing via the former’s Select Films banner.
Hernandez has been described as the first migrant worker to travel into space. He did not learn English until the age of 12 and spent his childhood working alongside his family on the farms of California.
He refused to give up on his dream of travelling on a rocket and ventured into the world of science. Hernandez co-developed the first full-field mammography imaging system to detect early breast cancer and overcame 11 rejections to become a crew member on the Space Shuttle mission STS-128.
Film chiefs are hoping to begin production in Mexico City at the end of next month.
Michael is also starring in the family action movie ‘Secret Headquarters’ with Owen Wilson.
The flick is being directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. Michael and Owen will be joined in the movie by Walker Scobell, Momona Tamada, Keith L. Williams, Abby James Witherspoon and Kezii Curtis.

Gogglebox star Stephen Webb apologises for pulling woman into swimming pool

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Webb has apologised for pulling a woman into a swimming pool.
The 50-year-old reality star – who is known for appearing on hit show ‘Gogglebox’ – was at the members-only Brighton Beach House when he was pushed fully clothed into the pool and thought that pulling a woman in with him was “all part of the fun”.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I am very sorry if she felt upset or hurt by my actions. That was never my intention. I’d been swimming and having dried and got fully dressed, a friend pushed me back into the pool. I took it in very good spirits and everyone was laughing and joking so seeing his friend sat on the edge of the pool, pulled her round her waist into the water with me. We’d enjoyed a really good time together and I felt it was all part of the fun.”
Stephen appeared on the Channel 4 reality show – which charts real-life families as they watch television together – back in 2013 as an original cast member alongside ex-partner Chris Ashby-Steed.
Stephen confirmed he and his significant other Daniel Lustig had married in July 2018 at the picturesque Chateau de Lisse in Lot-et-Garonne, France, two-and-a-half years after he popped the question to Daniel in front of the Taj Mahal during a romantic holiday to India.
He wrote on Twitter: “Just married @chateaudelisse #france #gogglebox #wedding @lustig75 (sic)”
The happy couple posed for pictures while holding striking red umbrellas.

Keke Palmer was left with lots of questions after reading Nope script

OHMYGOSSIP — Keke Palmer had lots of questions after first reading the script for ‘Nope’.
Director Jordan Peele has kept the plot of the sci-fi horror film under wraps since the first trailer was released earlier this year and the ‘Lightyear’ actress explained that she was in the dark when she first read the script.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Monday (18.07.22), Keke, 28, said: “I just thought to myself, ‘What? So what’s he saying, for real?’
“With Jordan, you can never really watch any of his stuff on the surface, but that first watch always is a little surface because you don’t know what you’re looking for. So I was like, ‘I know this is a surface first read, now I’m ready to talk to him about what I’m really supposed to do.'”
Keke’s co-star Steven Yeun had similar feelings but a “quick discussion” with Peele was all he needed to get his teeth into the movie.
The 38-year-old actor said: “I had a lot of questions, but what was really fun was, as I read it, I had a quick discussion with Jordan and we just went into it.”
The movie follows siblings (played by Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya) as they investigate UFOs after encountering a mysterious force over their California ranch and Peele told the audience that the movie reflects the “horrors” that the world is currently living through.
The filmmaker said: “Just to give you a little bit of a sense of what you’re going to see, because it’s f****** crazy – I wrote this movie in a time that we still exist in, where I think many of us would agree it feels like we’re in the middle of a bad miracle.
“It’s a reflection of all the awful and spectacular horrors that we’ve been living through. If you thought you were going to get a complete escape from the horrors of the world, sorry, it’s not that.”

Doctor Who ‘to launch behind-the-scenes spin-off for 60th anniversary’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctor Who’ is getting a spin-off series.
The BBC sci-fi series – which first aired back in 1963 and ran for 26 years before being revived by Russell T Davies in 2005 – is gearing up to celebrate its 60th anniversary and is reportedly set to mark the milestone with a new series called ‘Doctor Who: Unleashed.’
The behind-the-scenes show will be made in a similar vein to ‘Doctor Who Confidential’ – which was broadcast alongside the revived series between 2005 and 2011 and featured cast interviews and episode analysis – and will launch alongside the milestone special in 2023.
A TV insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘Doctor Who Confidential’ was hugely popular amongst fans when Christopher Eccleston brought the show back as the Ninth Doctor and that continued during David’s tenure in the TARDIS as the Tenth Doctor. Russell is aware that Doctor Who fans can never get enough content when it comes to the show and how it is made, with David and Catherine making a sensational return to the show, he thought the time was right to bring back a behind-the-scenes show which will document their comebacks and show how the special was made.”
The outlet went on to claim that the spin-off show will continue when the 14th series of the show is launched following the anniversary, which will see Ncuti Gatwa take over the coveted role of the Time Lord from Jodie Whittaker.
Speaking after the casting announcement, the ‘Sex Education’ star told the BBC: “It feels really amazing. It’s a true honour. This role is an institution and it’s so iconic. I feel very grateful to have had the baton handed over and I’m going to try to do my best.”

Paul Walter Hauser: Cruella sequel will be filmed in 2023

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Walter Hauser has revealed that the ‘Cruella’ sequel will begin filming next year.
The 35-year-old actor played thief Horace Badun in the origin story for the evil ‘101 Dalmatians’ character Cruella de Vil and confirmed that the sequel – which sees Emma Stone reprising the title role – is due to head into production in 2023.
Paul told Forbes: “I’m told we’re doing it next year. I don’t know when but I think Tony McNamara is writing the script right now. He’s probably tinkering away with that.
“We got to work around the ever-busy schedule of Craig Gillespie and Emma Stone, who are worth the wait, so anytime they want to do it, I’ll be there.”
The film’s makeup artists Nadia Stacey and Julia Vernon confirmed that a script was being written for a ‘Cruella’ sequel at the Academy Awards earlier this year.
Stacey said: “They’re working on the script at the moment.”
She also hoped that the new project will be set in the 1980s to give her more opportunity to explore the style of the characters.
Stacey said: “My only hope is, I know nothing, but my hope is we’re moving into the 80s… get your rollers out, lots of perms. We’d have such a new era to explore.”
Director Craig Gillespie did suggest that there was plenty of scope for more movies based around the character of Cruella as the first movie only scraped the surface.
He said: “I feel like we’ve only just met her. I’d love to now see the full-blown Cruella, fully loaded. She’s managed to get the support system around her and she can really expand on her brand.
“I’d love to see where that takes her and how you could almost destroy her from inside out, if she’s not careful with all that power.”

Shetland star Douglas Henshall quits after 7 series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Shetland’ star Douglas Henshall has announced his departure from the BBC show after seven series.
The 56-year-old actor played DI Jimmy Perez on the hit thriller, adapted from the award-winning crime series of the same name by Ann Cleeves, since 2013.
The show, which is getting ready for its seventh series, will be the last for the Glaswegian-born star, who is branching out to explore other options.
He said: “After series five of ‘Shetland’, David Kane and I decided we wanted to do two more series to complete the story of Jimmy Perez. So series six and seven were commissioned together to give us time to wrap up Perez’s story to a satisfactory end.
“It’s been one of the privileges of my career to play Jimmy Perez for almost 10 years and to work with so many wonderful people both in front of and behind the camera, and also to spend so much time in Shetland.
“The Isles were so much a part of our show and of Perez himself. I’ll miss him and the place. I wish everyone involved much luck with whatever happens next.”
Gaynor Holmes, executive producer for BBC Drama, added: “It has been an absolute privilege to work on ‘Shetland’ over the past few years and watch the show go from strength to strength – in no small part thanks to Douglas’s sensitive, intelligent and memorable portrayal of DI Jimmy Perez.
“We will miss him enormously but he leaves the show in rude health and we’re extremely excited about the plans we have for bringing more of this much loved drama to audiences far and wide.”
The murder mystery will continue to run for an eighth season with a new lead, with casting to be confirmed in the coming months.
‘Shetland’ season seven returns to BBC One in August.
