Hugh Grant hated his ‘despicable’ Notting Hill character

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Grant hated his character in ‘Notting Hill’.
In the 1999 rom-com, the actor played bumbling book store owner William Thacker who falls in love with a movie star played by Julia Roberts but Grant has labelled him “despicable” for the way he treated the actress throughout the movie.
Speaking as part of Vanity Fair’s ‘Scene Selection’, Grant explained: “Whenever I’m flicking the channels at home after a few drinks and this comes up, I just think, ‘Why doesn’t my character have any balls?’
“There’s a scene in this film where she’s in my house and the paps come to the front door and ring the bell and I think I just let her go past me and open the door. That’s awful.”
Grant went on to insist all his real life romantic partners had the same opinion of the character, saying: “I’ve never had a girlfriend, or indeed now wife, who hasn’t said, ‘Why the hell didn’t you stop her? What’s wrong with you?’
“And I don’t really have an answer to that – it’s how it was written. And I think he’s despicable, really.”
He added of his co-star: “Probably all the time with Julia, as with any brilliant actress, you’re just thinking: ‘Christ, they’re really good. I’m not going to be as good as her’.
“And she’s great at emoting and she’s got this kind of quality where it looks like her skin is wafer thin. You can sort of see her soul.”
Grant has previously cleared up reports suggesting he hated all of his film roles, insisting he just picks holes in his past performances.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’ve read that I hate all my films. That’s not true, the films are often great. It’s just me that I loathe.
“I always think, ‘Oh you f***** that up’. You never feel great about your own stuff. It’s like in the old days of answering machine messages you always felt nauseated when you heard your own voice. And watching yourself on film is that times 50.”

T.J. Miller keen to reprise role as Weasel in Deadpool

OHMYGOSSIP — T.J. Miller says it would be “awesome” to reprise his ‘Deadpool’ role after healing friendship with lead star Ryan Reynolds.
The 43-year-old actor played the titular superhero’s (Reynolds) best friend Weasel in 2016’s ‘Deadpool’ and 2018’s ‘Deadpool 2’ but didn’t return for recent blockbuster ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.
The pair’s relationship went through a brief rocky period after Miller claimed his co-star was “horrifically mean” on set and refused to work with him again.
However, they patched things up and the ‘Silicon Valley’ star says the ‘Proposal’ actor has been “such a good friend right now” and would love to star with him again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s ‘The Bonfire’, he said: “We talked a little while ago.
“I think him asking me, I think he’s just been such a good friend right now that I think it would be really, I think that would be awesome.”
Appearing on ‘The Adam Carolla Show’ in 2022, Miller said: “As the character, he was, like, horrifically mean to me. But to me. As if I’m Weasel.
“He was like, ‘You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition that it’s funny and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.’
“I just kind of listened and thought it was weird and then I got off stage because they were like, ‘Cut…?’”
Miller suggested Reynolds singled him out because he was “insecure”.
He said: “That’s exactly why he said that. Because I’m not funnier than he is at all, right? And I haven’t been in more movies than him.”
The ‘Ready Player One’ actor found the interaction “weird” and said he had no desire to return to the franchise, even though he wanted to.
He added: “Would I work with him again? No. I would not work with him again.
“I sorta wish him well, because he’s so good at Deadpool, and I think it’s weird that he hates me.
“I don’t wish them any ill will. I think [Ryan] should make a ‘Deadpool 3’ and continue to make movies.
“I just think he doesn’t like me, and I thought it was weird how he expressed that.”
However, days later, he appeared on SiriusXM to reveal they had exchanged emails to clear things up and insisted it was all “a misunderstanding”.

Pete Wicks’ best pal Vicky Pattison would love it if he was dating ‘absolutely gorgeous’ Maura Higgins

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Wicks’ best pal Vicky Pattison would love it if the rumours were true that he is dating “absolutely gorgeous” Maura Higgins.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who shot to fame on ‘The Only Way is Essex’ – has been spotted a handful of times hanging out with the ‘Love Island’ star, packing on the PDA, but he has remained coy about whether they are an item.
The 36-year-old star has also been linked to his professional dance partner on ‘Strictly’, Jowita Przystal, but has denied they are anything more than friends.
Even his close friend, former ‘Geordie Shore’ star Vicky, 36, has admitted she is “genuinely in the dark” about who he’s dating.
She told The Sun: “You know, he tells me absolutely nothing about his love life. He stopped doing that a long time ago.
“Probably for the best. I’m such a nosy cow, so I know nothing about what’s going on.
“Maura’s absolutely gorgeous and like, if they were together, they would absolutely have my seal of approval, he knows that for sure.
“I’m not even pleading ignorance on this one. I’m genuinely in the dark.”
Maura, 33, is among the celebrities set to enter the ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ jungle this weekend and Vicky – who won the survival show in 2015 and went on to co-present ‘I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp’ in 2016 – believes she will go far as she’s “tough as nails”.
She said: “I think she’ll be incredible to watch. I actually think the bugs should be scared of her, she’s a weapon. I think Maura is tough as nails.”
Shutting down romance rumours about him and Jowita, 30, Pete recently told ‘This Morning’: “It’s not a love bubble unfortunately, she’s one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met, genuinely, not just in the dancing side of things but outside of that and I think that helps us with the whole dancing thing.”

‘Nobody’s in competition’: Jeff Goldblum plays down Wicked and Gladiator II release date clash

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Goldblum isn’t worried about the competition between ‘Wicked’ and ‘Gladiator II’.
The 72-year-old star plays The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the hotly-anticipated musical movie and has no concerns about the film being released at the same time as Sir Ridley Scott’s long-awaited sequel to the historical epic.
Jeff told Deadline at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Wicked’: “Nobody’s in competition – it’s an abundance mentality world with enough to go around.”
He explained that rivals learning to exist together peacefully is a major element of the plot of ‘Wicked’ which is demonstrated by lead characters Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo).
Goldblum said: “That’s part of the theme of our show!”
The ‘Jurassic Park’ actor was overjoyed to land a part in Jon M. Chu’s movie as he had been a fan of ‘Wicked’ since the stage show premiered on Broadway over two decades ago.
He said: “When I found out about it, I jumped up and down about like a child of ten. I had been a fan of the show. I had met Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel backstage after crying my eyes out. I followed it for 20 years. I heard they were going to make a movie, so I was very excited.”
Jeff gushed about Chu’s ability to combine elements of stage and screen on the project.
He explained: “He has a way of bringing set-piece musical numbers, dance and singing, to the screen in every bit a delightful way as when you see a Broadway show. And he mixes it up with naturalistic, cinematic, modern nuanced complicated acting.
“Being around Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, and being next to them, and just looking into their eyes, that gives you all sorts of life you didn’t expect, and you’ll never be the same after.”

Timothy West dies aged 90

OHMYGOSSIP — Timothy West has died aged 90.
The ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘EastEnders’ star – who was married to actress Prunella Scales for 61 years – passed away “peacefully in his sleep” on Tuesday (12.11.24) evening.
In a group statement issued by West’s agent, his children Juliet, Samuel and Joseph said: “After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old.
“Tim was with friends and family at the end. He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
“All of us will miss him terribly. We would like to thank the incredible NHS staff at St George’s Hospital, Tooting and at Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days.”
After starting his career on stage in 1959, West went onto get his big break in television with a role in ‘Edward the Seventh’ in 1975.
He went onto appear in the likes of ‘Brass, ‘King Lear’ and ‘Bedtime’, and became known for countless roles on the stage and screen.
In 2007, he joined ‘Not Going Out’ as Geoffrey Adams, taking on the role in two further episodes on the sitcom’s third series before being replaced by Geoffrey Whitehead.
In 2013, he joined ‘Coronation Street’ as Eric Babbage, while he joined ‘EastEnders’ later that same year.
He made his first appearance on Albert Square as Stan Carter in January the following year, and filmed his final season in February 2015.
He stayed busy in recent years, playing Jeremy Lister in ‘Gentleman Jack’ between 2019 and 2022, while he also took on the role of Private Godfrey in ‘Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes’.
His final television acting credit came last year as Charles Usher in an episode of ‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’.

John Stapleton open to Dignitas death if Parkinson’s deteriorates

OHMYGOSSIP — John Stapleton wants to be taken to Switzerland to die if his Parkinson’s deteriorates.
The 78-year-old broadcaster admitted he doesn’t want to suffer in the same way his mother did before her death in 2007 – which came six years after being diagnosed with the same illness – and so he’s open to signing up for the Dignitas assisted-dying clinic.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ on Wednesday (13.11.24), he said: “I take the view that if I’m suffering very badly you have my permission to take me across to Switzerland and do the business as long as it doesn’t get you in trouble.”
A new piece of legislation has been proposed to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales for those diagnosed with life-limiting diseases who have been given less than six months to live.
However, Parkinson’s wouldn’t fall under that as the law would not apply to those with physical disabilities or mental ill health.
The former ‘Watchdog’ host added: “This new bill, in principal I am for it, but it doesn’t really apply to Parkinson’s people because Parkinson’s doesn’t kill you.
“You can’t say, ‘In six months you’re going to die from Parkinson’s’ so at the moment it doesn’t really apply to me.”
Stapleton admitted it was “a relief” for himself and his mother when she died because “it was horrible watching her suffer like that”.
The presenter – who is best known for having fronted breakfast television shows like ‘GMTV’ and ‘Daybreak’ in the 1990s and 2000s – recently revealed he had been diagnosed with the progressive brain disorder that affects movement, mental health, and other areas of the body, but had accepted that some sort of issue was “inevitable” given his age.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “You can’t escape these things as you grow older, these kinds of developments are sort of inevitable. You learn to live with it, get on with it and try to be as positive as you can.”

Eamonn Holmes claims BBC is ‘wasting their time’ looking for younger Match of the Day host

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes has claimed the BBC would be “wasting their time” getting a “younger host” for ‘Match of the Day’.
The 64-year-old presenter has weighed in on the future of the Beeb’s iconic football highlights show after news Gary Lineker, 63, will step down at the end of the current season after over 25 years at the helm.
After his GB News co-star Isabel Webster suggested Eamonn himself would be a “brilliant” choice for the role, he ranted about the BBC’s rumoured approach.
On Wednesday’s (13.11.24) edition of their show, he said: “See they also do this ridiculous thing in the BBC, it’s always been the case, try and get a younger audience.
“So what does that mean? Get a younger host? And younger people do not watch television. So why are they wasting their time?”
Isabel joked that younger fans “watch it in bed on a Sunday with a hangover”, but Eamonn wasn’t so sure.
He added: “No. They watch it on their phones and on their devices.”
And the former ‘This Morning’ host insisted: “The best thing about Match Of The Day is the music.”
It remains to be seen who will replace Gary when he steps down, with claims the BBC are looking for a younger host.
Recent reports claimed ‘Match of the Day 2’ host Mark Chapman, 51, turned down an offer to share the job with Kelly Somers, 33.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “As soon as Gary’s deal was done, [BBC Sport Director Alex Kay-Jelski] made it clear he wanted Mark and Kelly to replace him.
“It would effectively be a job share and they would rotate hosting duties between them. Mark has made it clear within the team at MOTD that this isn’t something he would want to do.
“He doesn’t want a job share, he wants Gary’s role as his own, which is understandable. It’s a headache for the BBC because they thought they’d found an easy solution.”

Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat teases plot details for Christmas special

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special is set in the “far, far future”.
Writer Steven Moffat has revealed the first details about the upcoming festive episode ‘Joy to the World’ which sees Nicola Coughlan in the title role, as joy checks into a London hotel.
Speaking to BBC South East, he teased: “Imagine that a hotel chain got hold of the idea of time travel.
“What’s the first thing a hotel would do if they had time travel?
“They’d realise they have an opportunity to sell all the unsold nights in their old hotels [throughout] history.”
In the episode, Joy’s break will be interrupted by a Silurian, before The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) whisks here away on an adventure through space and time.
In a trailer for the special, the Time Lord moves from the Orient Express to the present day via World War II-era London.
Moffat is keeping tight lipped about any firmer details for ‘Joy to the World’.
However, he admitted he’s glad to be back on ‘Doctor Who’ in this environment years after his own stint as showrunner.
He added: “The truth is, I actually love doing ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas. I’m a big fan of Christmas. I absolutely adore Christmas.”
After writing ‘Boom’ for Ncuti’s first full season in the TARDIS, Moffat has revealed the emotions he felt while working on the festive episode, which could be his final ‘Doctor Who’ gig.
He told TV Choice magazine: “As I got to the end of ‘Boom’ and ‘Joy to the World’, I did think, ‘Is that it? Is that the final moment?’
“I think they both have quite good final moments for the Doctor, [so] I was thinking, ‘Yeah, that could be goodbye.’ ”
Meanwhile, Ncuti has revealed season two and the Christmas special are finished and ready to go – and he’ll be back for more in 2025.
During a recent appearance on ‘The Graham Norton Show’, Ncuti said: “It is all going well. We did the second series this year, the Christmas special is coming up, and we are filming a third series next year.”

‘The thing about Kingdom of the Spiders, the tarantulas were real!’ William Shatner recalls tough shoot on cult classic horror

OHMYGOSSIP — William Shatner says one of his toughest ever shoots was on the 1977 film ‘Kingdom of the Spiders’ because he had to be covered in real tarantulas.
The 93-year-old Hollywood legend starred as veterinarian Dr. Robert ‘Rack’ Hansen in the science-fiction horror flick set in rural Verde Valley, Arizona, overrun by killer tarantulas.
Shatner’s co-stars Woody Strode and Tiffany Bolling played local farmer Walter Colby and archaeologist Diane Ashley, respectively. Walter becomes frightened when his farm animals are killed by an unknown creature and after he and Hansen send off a sample to a university laboratory arachnologist Dr. Hansen arrives to inform Walter that his animals were killed by spider venom, much to the astonishment of everyone. The discovery of the killer spiders has fatal consequences for the town.
To film the scenes with the tarantulas, director John ‘Bud’ Cardos did not use prop spiders and instead arranged for 5,000 live tarantulas to be purchased for the shoot, spending nearly 10 per cent of the $500,000 budget on arachnids.
‘Star trek’ actor Shatner has recalled that working with the tarantulas was as horrific as the scenes seen on screen because the eight-legged beasts would shed their urticating hairs leaving him and his castmates itching all over.
In an appearance on ‘The Drew Lane Show’, Shatner said: “The thing about ‘Kingdom of the Spiders’, in that, the spiders, they were tarantulas, were real! They didn’t have little flippy floppers.
“From time-to-time, on screen, they would dump a big bag of tarantulas over my head. And not only are there little sharp claws, which allows them to scramble up everything, but the hairs on their bodies are used for itching powder. So, the debris they would dump on my head was ugly.”
Other problems with the tarantulas on set included them refusing to run towards their “victims”, due to them being nervous of humans, and, because the species are cannibals, each one of the 5,000 spiders required its own individual container.
Shatner – who is famous all over the world for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk in the original 1960s ‘Star Trek’ TV series and subsequent films, such as ‘Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’ – previously revealed he was also bitten by his creepy crawly co-stars.
Talking about ‘Kingdom of the Spiders’ for a Shout! Factory TV Original, he said: “One is hard-wired to be afraid of creepy crawly things. Once I learned that the sting is, it hurts, but it’s more like a bee sting, the bite of a tarantula isn’t that bad.”

‘I think they got chicken’ Denzel Washington reveals why Gladiator II bosses cut gay kiss

OHMYGOSSIP — Denzel Washington kissed a man on the lips in ‘Gladiator II’, but it was cut from the movie.
The 69-year-old actor plays Rome powerbroker Macrinus – whose past relationships with men are mentioned in the script – but Washington thinks the movie’s bosses “got chicken” about including the “kiss of death” moment in the finished motion picture.
He told Gayety: “I actually kissed a man in the film but they took it out, they cut it, I think they got chicken.
“I kissed a guy full on the lips and I guess they weren’t ready for that yet.
“I killed him about five minutes later. It’s ‘Gladiator.’ It’s the kiss of death.”
Washington attended the movie’s world premiere in London on Wednesday evening (13.11.24) alongside co-stars Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, and several other star-studded attendees including King Charles.
Charles arrived at the event in his state Bentley limousine, and he posed for photographers on the red carpet.
Ahead of the movie’s release on Friday (15.11.24), Washington recently teased fans they can expect a “ridiculously big” and “epic” motion picture.
He told Variety: “[It’s] huge! Ridiculously big!”
When asked whether his co-stars Mescal and Pascal are “good” in the film, the actor replied: “Not good. Great. Both of them. It’s a hard act to follow, and Paul pulled it off. He’s his own gladiator.
“I didn’t have to do anything but this [sips water with his little finger up]. That was my job. Just twirl the glass, twirl the goblet, and hold whatever I had in my other hand.
“And make sure I don’t step on my gown.”

Glen Powell denies he’s replacing Tom Cruise in ‘death trap’ Mission Impossible

OHMYGOSSIP — Glen Powell has denied he is being eyed to replace Tom Cruise in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise – calling it the “worst gig in town”.
As Ethan Hunt in the blockbuster action spy series, Cruise performs death-defying stunts, and Powell – who starred alongside the Hollywood star in 2022’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – has ruled himself out of that “death trap”.
During a call with ESPN host Pat McAfee on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ this week, he responded to the rumours: “My mom would never let me do that.
“That’s the worst gig in town, everybody knows that. That’s a death trap.”
The eighth film in the franchise, ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’, is due for release next May.
Cruise, 62, and Powell, 36, will however reunite for ‘Top Gun 3’.
Powell will reprise his role as Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin alongside Cruise’s Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell and Miles Teller’s Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, and the former recently spilled that he already has a “date” for the film.
Appearing on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast with ‘Twisters’ co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones, they were asked whether ‘Top Gun 3’ or another series of her show ‘Normal People’ would come first.
Powell replied: “I mean, I have a date.”
However, he didn’t reveal whether that was referring to the start of filming, or getting in shape, or going back to pilot school to prepare.
Asked if he could share any more details, he added: “Absolutely not.”
Earlier this year, it was reported a third ‘Top Gun’ movie was officially being developed by Paramount Pictures, and Powell recalled receiving text messages with questions from friends after the news broke.
He told Variety: “People looked at me like I knew what was going on. There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon… but it was confidential to me.
“I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time. There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting.
“I don’t know when I’ll be going back…I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future.”
In January, it was reported that studio bosses were keen to get ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director Joseph Kosinski back in the cockpit to helm the third movie.

I’m A Celebrity stars set for ‘most competitive launch ever’ in show first

OHMYGOSSIP — The new ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ campmates will be involved in the show’s “most competitive launch ever”, with this year’s series due to begin with a race.
On Sunday night’s (17.11.24) launch episode, contestants including Coleen Rooney – the wife of former England football captain Wayne Rooney – former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star Oti Mabuse and McFly’s Danny Jones will have to pair up.
They will then have to take part in several challenges against their fellow campmates in a bid to cross the finish line first, as part of a race called Snakes and Leaders.
ITV said: “It’s all to play for, as throughout the challenges there will be plenty of opportunities to overtake and fight to the finish.
“The winning pair will be awarded the coveted title of the first leaders of camp, they’ll be exempt from any chores, will get to sleep in the Leaders’ Lodge, and run the camp exactly the way they’d like.”
The Leaders’ Lodge is a new addition to this year’s camp, and it features two “wonderfully comfy beds”, including mattresses and “plush” duvets and pillows, and the area offers vital shelter from the rain in what tends to be a soggy camp.
What’s more, the camp also features two red leatherbound seats for the two equal leaders of camp.
There will also be a further twist to come.
I’m A Celebrity’s executive producer Olly Nash told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “There is a twist coming, which will give them [the leaders] more power than they expected before.
“So there’s more stuff to come, and there are additional perks that they don’t get.
“I would imagine they will be leaders at least until the end of that first week.”
‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ starts this Sunday 17th November on ITV1 and ITVX, and in Ireland on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Play.

Strictly star Chris McCausland reveals real reason he’s glad to be performing at Blackpool

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris McCausland says it “means more” to give Dianne Buswell a chance to return to Blackpool than perform there himself.
The 47-year-old comedian – who has left ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ fans and judges stunned with his performances as the show’s first ever blind contestant – is excited to be performing at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this weekend, but he’s more focused on what it means to his professional partner.
He said: “It’s something that means a lot to the professional dancers.
“‘Strictly’ is a two way relationship and they don’t get to dance there every year with a partner because they leave at different points of the competition each year.
“To be able to get to Blackpool with Dianne and give her that opportunity to dance there again means more to me than me being able to go there myself.”
Chris is well aware of the significance of getting to perform at the legendary venue.
He added: “It’s a synonymous place, isn’t it?
“I believe it’s the Wembley for ballroom dancers, and two months in, maybe I’m a ballroom dancer now!?
“I knew nothing about ballroom dancing eight weeks ago.”
Chris has plenty of memories of Blackpool in general, having visited the seaside town “a lot” as a child.
He recalled: “I’ve got loads of memories of the
seafront, the beach and the fairgrounds. I’d never go on rollercoasters when I was that age. I think because I could see them, they terrified me, whereas now I can’t see them, I’m not bothered so I’ll go on anything.
“Memories of the arcades and spending time in the early 90s there. I loved sticks of rock and donkey rides.”
Dianne – who will be leading Chris through an American Smooth to Paul Anka’s ‘Jump’ – admitted it always feels “special” being back.
She said: “It’s very special because I always dreamed to perform in Blackpool as a little girl growing up in Australia.
“Every time I go there, it’s a pinch me moment.”

John Lewis Christmas advert puts store at heart as sister hunts for ‘perfect gift’

OHMYGOSSIP — John Lewis has put its own store at the heart of its 2024 Christmas advert in a tale of two sisters.
The department store’s high profile Oxford Street branch in London is the setting for this year’s highly anticipated festive commercial, which is soundtracked by Richard Ashcroft’s ‘Sonnet’ and focuses on the finding “the perfect gift”.
The two minute ad shows Sally having a last minute dash round a John Lewis shop at closing time to find the right present for her sister.
She falls through a rack of dresses in a Narnia-inspired twist, taking her on an emotional journey through her memories of her sibling, from childhood and her teen years to pregnancy and beyond.
Sally finds herself back in the real world with a gift already wrapped, before sharing a moment with her siblings outside the store.
The tagline for the advert reads: “The secret to finding the perfect gift? Knowing where to look.”
While John Lewis is breaking from tradition by having an original song take centre stage rather than a cover, the company is launching a competition on TikTok to find a new rendition of ‘Sonnet’ to act as the soundtrack for a special Christmas Day broadcast of the ad.
Charlotte Lock, customer director for John Lewis, said: ‘Our ad heroes the thoughtful gift-giver and celebrates ‘the gifting hour’, the moment when you go a little deeper in your heart and in our stores to find something really special and meaningful for the ones you love.
“Our shops are the beating heart of our brand and our customers love the ritual of Christmas shopping there – so we wanted to give the store a starring role in our ad for the first time.
“This year the John Lewis Christmas advert features an original song rather than a cover track, and we’re offering the nation the chance to put their own stamp on it and become the ultimate cover star.
“So whether your style is pop, indie, country or R+B – we can’t wait to hear your take on ‘Sonnet.'”
To enter the competition, hopeful musicians need to upload their take on the track on John Lewis’ TikTok page with the #MySonnet hashtag, which entry opening on Friday (15.11.24).
The winner will be chosen by Richard himself and a panel of judges, and as well as the Christmas Day treat they’ll also get the single released by BMG, with proceeds going to the Building Happier Futures programme, while they’ll be gifted a £3,000 John Lewis shopping spree and tickets to one of The Verve star’s headline shows.
