Big Brother is officially returning!

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Big Brother’ is returning.
The iconic noughties reality television show – which saw a group of strangers live in a house on Channel 4 from 2008 to 2011 and on Channel 5 until it was axed in 2018 – is officially heading back to screens.
The news was announced in an advert that followed the ‘Love Island’ final on ITV2 on Monday night (01.08.22).
The show will be rebooted as part of ITV’s new streaming service ITVX – and also air on ITV2 – sometime in 2023 with a “contemporary new look”.
The six-week show will see a range of “carefully selected housemates from all walks of life” cohabitate as the public watch via a network of cameras, along with the much-loved public evictions and viewers getting to decide the ultimate winner.
Paul Mortimer, the head of reality commissioning and acquisitions and controller of ITV2, ITVBe and CITV, said: “This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today’s audience.”
The show – which also spawned a celebrity edition, which has been won by the likes of Katie Price, Courtney Act, Ryan Thomas and the late Sarah Harding – launched the careers of many of Britain’s most adored television faces, such as ‘This Morning’ presenters Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson and the late Nikki Grahame, who lost her battle with anorexia in 2021, aged 38.
There is currently no word on who will host the show – which was originally presented by Davina McCall – but rumours circulating that ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ alum Rylan Clark will front he reboot have been squashed, despite saying he “a million per cent” he would host.
An insider told The Mirror: “This needs to be totally new and fresh. It’s all about drawing in a young audience. The aim is to get back to basics and interfere less, with fewer challenges.”
Rylan won the 11th series of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in 2013, and hosted ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ and the celebrity version.
Emma Willis hosted the shows between 2013 and 2018, and ‘Bit on the Side’ between 2011 and 2015.

Jamie Lee Curtis to play psychic medium in Haunted Mansion remake?

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Lee Curtis is to star in Disney’s remake of ‘Haunted Mansion’.
The ‘Halloween’ star has shared a headline from an article reporting that she is set to take on the role of psychic medium Madame Leota.
Hollywood legend Jamie, 63, simply captioned the Instagram post with the emoji for a crystal ball, appearing to confirm the casting.
Justin Simien is directing the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the legendary Disney theme park ride.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed over the weekend that it is slated for release on March 17, 2023.
The starry cast also includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, and Danny DeVito.
The movie will focus on a mother and her son as they stumble on a mansion with a mysterious past.
They then find themselves meeting a whole host of eclectic characters.
The movie – which will be the second adaptation of the Disney ride after 2003’s ‘Haunted Mansion’ starring Eddie Murphy, Nathaniel Parker and Jennifer Tilly – is being directed by Justin Simien from Katie Dippold’s script.
‘Aladdin’ co-producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are on board via their Rideback company.
Production got underway in Atlanta and New Orleans last year, and the latter city hints at the original attraction which is set in New Orleans Square.
While Jamie’s character requires her to look into a crystal ball, the ‘Freaky Friday’ star recently revealed she avoids looking in the mirror.
The movie star checks her reflection when she’s carrying out tasks that require her to do so, but she doesn’t spend a lot of time scrutinising her appearance because she doesn’t want to be critical of herself.
She said earlier this year: “When I brush my teeth, of course, I look in the mirror. When I pluck my eyebrows, of course, I look in a mirror. But when I get out of a shower, I just don’t stare at my now 63-year-old body in the mirror,
“I’m not denying what I look like, of course I’ve seen what I look like. I am trying to live in acceptance. If I look in the mirror, it’s harder for me to be in acceptance. I’m more critical. Whereas, if I just don’t look, I’m not so worried about it.”

James Gunn: Guardians of the Galaxy forevermore changed my lief

OHMYGOSSIP — James Gunn says ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ “forevermore changed” his life.
The 55-year-old director marked eight years since the release of the original 2014 Marvel blockbuster – which starred Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana – on Twitter.
He wrote on Monday (01.08.22): “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 opened exactly 8 years ago today (and my life changed forevermore).”
Last week, the ‘Suicide Squad’ helmer admitted that newest and third flick – which was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic – might be his “favourite movie” but not his “favourite shooting experience” while discussing if he preferred the Holiday Special or the new one, which is due out in May 2023.
Responding to a fan question on Twitter last week, James wrote: “The Holiday Special was a pure joy. Vol 3 was very difficult for a billion reasons, beginning with its size and complexity. It might be my favorite movie but it probably wasn’t my favorite shooting experience, other than the love I have for the whole team. (sic)”
Recently, James revealed that the new film is more “mature” than the others in the superhero series.
He said: “It’s an incredibly emotional story. Much more mature than the other Guardian stories in a way because, you know, we started making these movies that were 10, 11 years old when they saw the first one, and now they’re 20, 21 years old. The movie has grown up with them.”
James also commented on the teaser, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, before it leaked online.
He said: “But it’s not just Marvel, it’s also me. Although I love the teaser some VFX aren’t where I’d want them to be for repeated views close inspection – remember we didn’t wrap long ago – so you’ll have to wait just a beat! Sorry!”

Gemma Collins to explore the history of coal mining in Wales for a new doc

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins is to explore the history of coal mining in Wales for a new documentary.
The 41-year-old reality star – whose grandfather worked in a mine alongside superstar Tom Jones – will appear in an episode of the Welsh language series ‘More Than Daffs and Taffs’ for S4C even though she “doesn’t speak” Welsh.
She said: “I don’t talk Welsh but I have been to Barry Island and had fish and chips there like on ‘Gavin and Stacey.’ When I think of Wales, I only really know it for the valley life. But I want to know… Is there more to Wales? From the minute I pulled up in Wales, all I could smell was coal – the smell I could never forget – It’s my earliest childhood memory.”
The former ‘TOWIE’ star will be guided through the new show by presenter Miriam Isaac and joins a list of other yet-to-be-announced celebrities set to appear in other episodes and will eventually be confronted on initial biases they may have had about the country.

The 52-year-old star – who is married to businessman Nick Feeney and has children Finlay, 21, and Amy, 16, from previous relationships- started anchoring the ITV lunchtime chat show back in 2007 but quit in 2020 to set up online wellness platform This Girl is On Fire and admitted she still yearns for the “thrill” of being on live television even though she was doing the “right thing” by leaving.
She said: “It was scary and it didn’t help that everybody said to me ‘That’s a really bad idea.’ But I wanted to do it. So I did. My husband Nick joined me and we put everything we had into the business, but that first year, in particular, was tough and we worked ridiculously hard. Nick and I even went to see a relationship coach. We were spending so much time together and although nothing was broken in our marriage, we wanted to know how we could work better together. I got my own personal development coach, too, and she helped me with my career transition in terms of identity and figuring out who I was. It was a big change, but ultimately I knew I was doing the right thing. I miss bits of my old job – all the ‘Loose Women’ ladies, the thrill of live TV, and having my hair and make-up done!”
The former GMTV weathergirl – who fronted ‘Loose Women’ on a rotational basis with the likes of Ruth Langsford, Carol Vorderman, and Kaye Adams over the years but was eventually replaced by newsreader Charlene White – went on to explain that she would “definitely” return to television if she could present a show about “personal growth.”
She told MyWeekly: “I would definitely go back and I’d ideally like to present a show on personal growth and helping people to feel good. There are all kinds of transformational programmes on TV, whether it’s body transformation or trying to look 10 years younger. But actually, if you could take 10 years off someone’s mindset, that would be a show I’d want to be involved with because that’s what I do every day with my platform.
“And I think sometimes it’d be nice to go back and just do a job for someone else, and not have to worry, ‘Is this running to time? How much is all this costing?

Dwayne Johnson confirms the ‘Black Adam’ easter egg in the ‘DC League of Super Pets’ end credits.

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson confirmed that his ‘Black Adam’ character appears in the ‘DC League of Super Pets’ end credits.
The 50-year-old actor – who voices film’s top dog, Krypto in the animated flick alongside the talents of Kevin Hart, Diego Luna, Kate McKinnon, Natasha Lyonne, Vanessa Bayer, Thomas Middleditch, and Ben Schwartz – gushed about putting a nod to his upcoming live action superhero film debut, which is due out in October.

OHMYGOSSIP — The estate of Marilyn Monroe supports Ana De Armas in ‘Blonde’.
The company who owns the image and likeness of the Old Hollywood icon – who died in 1962, aged 36, from a drug overdose after starring in hits such as ‘Some Like it Hot’, ‘Bus Stop’ and ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ – defended the ‘Knives Out’ star after she faced backlash for her accent in the Netflix movie’s trailer, which was released last week.
Marc Rosen, the president of Authentic Brands Group told Variety: “Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history. Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!”
Previously, Ana shared that she worked on her accent for more than a year for the adaption of the Joyce Carol Oates’ novelisation of Marilyn – real name Norma Jean Baker – and her life.
She also labelled the director Andrew Dominik as “groundbreaking” for casting a Cuban actress as Marilyn in the film, which also stars Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams and will be released next month on the streaming service after its debut at the Venice Film Festival.

Chris Eubank ‘knocked off his feet’ by cooking skills on Masterchef

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Eubank was “knocked off his feet” by his own cooking skills on ‘Masterchef.’
The 55-year-old ex-boxer has signed up alongside 20 other famous faces to appear on a celebrity edition of the BBC culinary series and spoke of how his “simple” dish was so well-received by judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
He said: “You will see on the show where I cook one simple dish, it knocked even me off my feet. The proof is in the eating and I can remember Gregg saying, ‘I can’t work you out, but this is really good. This was very simple food that I’m told most people don’t like, until obviously they taste mine.”

Zoe Saldana says Nichelle Nichols gave her ‘confidence’ to play Lieutenant Uhura in ‘Star Trek’

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Saldana says Nichelle Nichols gave her “confidence” to play Lieutenant Uhura in the 2009 ‘Star Trek’ movie.
The ‘Avatar’ star reminisced about meeting the star of the 60s sci-fi series – who died last week aged 89 – who originated the role Zoe took on in the J.J Abrams-helmed flick that also starred Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg and Chris Pine.
The 44-year-old actress wrote on Instagram on Monday (01.08.22): “I knew I had big shoes to fill when I was chosen to play Uhura, and Nichelle made me feel safe, told me to play her with all the confidence in the world. My hope is that we continue to keep her memory alive by celebrating her amazing body of work, and by spreading the message of peace and equality amongst all people. She lived a long, impactful life and not only prospered, but helped so many others prosper too.
“Maya Angelou once said “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. I agree with this statement with the exception of Nichelle Nichols. It’ll be hard to forget what she said and hard to forget what she did, and it will certainly be impossible to forget how she made us feel.”
Zoe also added she was “saddened” to hear of the death while labelling her a “true star” and “ahead of her time”.
She wrote: “I’m saddened to learn of Nichelle Nichols’ passing. We have lost a true star- a unique artist who was ahead of her time always. She’s an icon, an activist and most importantly an amazing woman- who blazed a trail that has shown so many how to see women of color in a different light. Her strive for equality was unwavering.”
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star called meeting Nichelle “a truly special moment”.
Zoe said: “Meeting Nichelle was truly a very special moment in my life. Her energy was infectious every time I was in her presence. She convinced me in believing that anything was achievable, if you put your heart into it. I mean, she inspired Mae Jemison to follow her dreams of becoming an astronaut and that’s exactly what Mae did.”
Zoe concluded her post with a message: “REST IN POWER QUEEN NICHELLE”.

Kate Lawler nearly didn’t audition for Big Brother

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Lawler nearly didn’t audition for ‘Big Brother.’
The 42-year-old TV star competed on and eventually became the first-ever female winner of the Channel 4 reality show back in 2002 but revealed that it was her twin sister Karen who initially wanted to take part until she found that the application form was “too long.”
She said: “My twin sister wanted to do it but she couldn’t be bothered to fill in the application form because it was too long. So I said I’d do it. And then I filled in the application form but nearly didn’t send it off. It was the very last day I could send it, I did a stupid video and then I was asked to be a housemate.”
The former Capital FM DJ added that even after she had been offered a place on the show – which is set to be revived on ITV2 in 2023 almost five years after it was axed – she was still unsure in case her time on the show followed the same fate as former contestant Nicholas Bateman, who was dubbed Nasty Nick after being accused of manipulating housemates.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Moring’, she told hosts Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes: “Then I debated on whether or not to do it. I was thinking to myself ”Oh my God, do I do it? What if what happened to Nasty Nick happens to me?’ You see a psychologist before the show and they brief you that it could all go horribly wrong.”
Kate then added that she thought fellow housemate Alison Hammond – who `eventually placed 12th on the series but has since gone on to front ‘This Morning’ alongside Dermot O’Leary – would win the programme and “knew” that it was time for a female to finish first.
She added: “I thought Alison would win it when I arrived in the house. I was looking at Alison and I was like ‘You’re definitely gonna win it, you’re amazing, you’re this big bubbly personality. But there was a point in my series that I thought I could win it, I knew that a female would win my series. That’s what I knew. I thought it was time.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Keaton hasn’t seen a full DC or Marvel superhero movie.
The ‘Batman’ star – who was replaced by Val Kilmer in the last film of the 90s comic book adaptation trilogy – says he has “other s*** to do” than to sit on the sofa and watch these sorts of movies even after reprising the alter-ego of Bruce Wayne in ‘The Flash’, also starring Ezra Miller.
The 70-year-old actor told Variety: “I know people don’t believe this, that I’ve never seen an entire version of any of those movies — any Marvel movie, any other. And I don’t say that I don’t watch that because I’m highbrow — trust me! It’s not that. It’s just that there’s very little things I watch. I start watching something, and think it is great and I watch three episodes, but I have other s*** to do!”
Michael admitted to being “curious” to do the role again and take part in the “gigantic” world of Marvel and DC universes.
He said: “I was curious what it would be like after this many years. Not so much me doing it — obviously, some of that — but I was just curious about it, weirdly, socially. This whole thing is gigantic. They have their entirely own world, so I like to look at it as an outsider, thinking ‘Holy moly!’”
Michael added: “So I thought, why not? It’s cool to drop in and I’m curious to see if I can pull it off.”
The ‘Birdman’ star is not the only actor to come back to the character as recently, it was confirmed that Ben Affleck would get back into the suit and into the BatMobile in ‘Aquaman 2’, which was recently played by Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves’ 2021 movie.

Neighbours Alan Fletcher: I’m thinking about going into medicine like Karl Kennedy

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Neighbours’ star Alan Fletcher is thinking about a career medicine after playing Dr Karl Kennedy.
The 65-year-old actor played the local GP on the Australian soap for almost three decades and said goodbye to his iconic role after the show aired its final episode on Friday (29.07.22).
He told Magic Radio’s Breakfast Show: “Whilst I’ve been on Neighbours, I religiously don’t give medical advice, because I’m really worried about the authorities tracking me down.
“But now that I’ve finished Neighbours, I’m thinking about actually going into medicine.”
The finale featured guest appearances from pop stars Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan as well as Hollywood star Margot Robbie, who all found fame on the soap, which Alan highlighted was the “pinnacle of what ‘Neighbours’ can achieve”.
Speaking on Margot Robbie, who played Donna Freedman, he said: “The treat to me is the pinnacle of what Neighbors can achieve in terms of training people and guiding them.
“Mind you, when she walked into the studio very early on, both Jackie Woodburne, who plays Susan, literally turned and went okay, she’s the bees knees”.
Prior to the airing of the final episode, Alan admitted that he was “full of gratitude” and felt “very lucky” that he got to play the role for so long.
He said: “‘Neighbours’ has given me so much and brought so much joy to a lot of people over the years, and that’s a very rewarding aspect of my career. I’m a very lucky person that I got to do it. I’m very sad, of course, that the journey is over, but I’m also full of gratitude that I got to go on this journey.”
Back in February, Channel 5 confirmed they were axing the show that had been on air since 1985.
A spokesperson said at the time: “‘Neighbours’ will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.
“It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.
“We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.
“We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue “didn’t want to overshadow” the current cast of ‘Neighbours’ during its finale episode.
The 54-year-old superstar reprised her role as mechanic Charlene Mitchell alongside on-screen husband Scott Robinson – played by Jason Donovan – in the final episode of the Australian soap opera on Friday (29.07.22) but following criticism from fans that she only uttered two lines, producer and writer Jason Herbison has explained that her appearance was “always going to be small.”
He said: “Our discussions with Jason (Donovan) and Kylie were always about making a small appearance. They didn’t want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them.”
Kylie joined the cast of ‘Neighbours’ in 1986 but left the series in 1988 to embark on a pop career and went on to enjoy decades of chart success with hits such as ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, and ‘Can’t Get You out of My Head’ and even teamed up with then-boyfriend Jason to release chart-topper ‘Especially For You’ in 1989, which could be heard playing as the on-screen couple made their return to Ramsay Street in the finale.
However, Jason went on to explain that Kylie and Jason’s scenes were shot before he had even written the episode and “hates” to see the ‘Spinning Around’ legend facing backlash.
He told TV Tonight: “We also filmed their scenes before I’d written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that. I hate to see Kylie copping any criticism – she was nothing short of amazing on the day.”
‘Neighbours’ initially aired on BBC One from 1986 until 2008 before being shown on Channel 5 and the soap relied on funding from the British network but in February 2022, the broadcaster confirmed they were to focus on UK drama instead.
A spokesperson said at the time: “”Neighbours’ will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer. It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series. We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of ‘Neighbours’ across the years. We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”

Kate Garraway: I’ve wondered how much of my fight to keep Derek alive is about myself

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway has wondered how much of her “fight” to keep husband Derek Draper alive is “about herself.”
The 55-year-old TV host – who has been married to Derek since 2005 and has Darcey, 16, and William, 13, with him – has been caring for her husband round-the-clock since he contracted COVID-19 in March 2020 and has even seen him recently contract “life threatening” sepsis.
Kate was joined on television by Hollie Battersbee, who is fighting to keep her 12-year-old son Archie alive after a court appeal to keep Archie’s life support turned on was rejected.
Archie has been in a coma since April after suffering a brain injury when he attempted a viral TikTok chaallenge and life support is expected to be turned off today (02.08.22).
Speaking on Tuesday’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, Kate said to Hollie: “I’ve got a couple of things to ask you that are a little bit based from my own experience, which I want to stress, particularly for Derek’s family who might be watching, is very different from yours.
“Mercifully I’ve not had to have the conversations with doctors about discussions of turning off the life support machines, and Derek’s brain stem has never been affected in the way that poor Archie’s had.
“But I have had to have conversations in my own head with myself sometimes when Derek was in a coma and in a state of minimum consciousness, about how much my frenzy to fight for him and to check every possible option was about me and my needs and how much was about him.
“And I understand your fight but I guess what the courts are there for is to try and manage our instinct and what is right for the person. Have you thought about that?”
Hollie replied: “Yes of course I have. And if Archie was in pain and deteriorating in the way it has been put over to the courts then I would be feeling very different but that isn’t the case. And based on that not being the case I find it very hard not to exhaust every option.”
Kate returned to ‘Good Morning Britain’ yesterday (01.08.22) after being forced to postpone her presenting duties on July 9 after Derek was taken ill having only been released from ICU three weeks prior.

Strictly Come Dancing return date revealed

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ will return on September 7.
Fans have been invited to apply for tickets to watch an advance recording of the launch show on Wednesday, September 7, with the live shows expected to follow that weekend.
A message from the BBC states: “Dust off your dancing shoes, Strictly Come Dancing is back!
“The stunning 20th series returns, bringing glamour and show-stopping dancing back to Saturday nights on BBC One – and we’re extremely excited to be able to welcome an audience back to the studio for this year’s shows.
“Hosted by the very talented and glamorous Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the show will once again come live from Elstree Film and Television Studios.
“Registration is now open to be part of the exciting Launch Show, which is recording in advance of this year’s live shows on Wednesday, September 7.”
And, there is more excitement in store for fans as show bosses are planning a special group routine on August 24, to mark 100 years of the BBC.
Announcing a public draw for tickets, the BBC said: “‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is celebrating 100 years of the BBC! The professional dancers will be throwing a party like only they know how, with a group number full of all the usual sparkle and glamour.
“There may well be a surprise or two as well, with special guests and fun tributes to some of your favourite BBC shows.”
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will return to host the 20th series of the show, while Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke will all take their places on the judging panel.
Four new professional dancers have joined ‘Strictly’ this year; European cup winner Vito Coppola, Chinese National Champion Carlos Gu, former Under 21 British National Champion Lauren Oakley and Latin dance champion Michelle Tsiakkas.
