Kym Marsh confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh is the second celebrity confirmed for this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star is a “huge fan” of the Latin and ballroom show, and she can’t wait to get started on the dancefloor.
She said: “I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out.
“I’m so delighted that this year they have! I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!”
It was revealed this week that Kym – who is best known for playing Michelle Connor in the ITV soap – had to consider a place on the show “carefully” because she is filming for returning school drama ‘Waterloo Road’ at the end of the year.
A BBC source told The Sun newspaper: “We have been keen to sign Kym for a while and approached her many times in the past but it has never worked out.
“When we approached her this year she was interested, which was very exciting for us.
“As well as her presenting work, she is filming for ‘Waterloo Road’ at the end of the year, so she had to consider it carefully.”
This comes after former ‘Hollyoaks’ star Will Mellor was the first star confirmed for this year’s ‘Strictly’ earlier on Thursday (04.08.22).
He said: “I’m honestly so chuffed to be taking part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ this year!
“Not going to lie, it’s totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge but that’s what life is all about.
“This is also my Mum’s favourite show and she’s had a really tough few years so I’m doing this is for her as well. Bring it on!”

Ncuti Gatwa returning to Sex Education

OHMYGOSSIP — Ncuti Gatwa is set to return to ‘Sex Education’.
The 29-year-old actor has recently been confirmed as the new Time Lord in ‘Doctor Who’, sparking concerns from fans of the Netflix show that he might be out of the fourth series.
But, according to Variety, Ncuti will be back as Eric Effiong for the next instalment of the drama.
A source told the publication that the fourth season will “see a mixture of old and new exciting faces”.
Filming for the new series of ‘Sex Education’ is expected to take place this autumn.
But several stars have already confirmed they will not be returning for the next season, including Rakhee Thakrar, who played teacher Emily Sands.
She recently said: “I’m not part of the new series. I can’t really talk about why.
“But I’m so proud of the show and grateful to have been part of something so important. There is nothing bad about ‘Sex Education’.”
What’s more, Tanya Reynolds has also confirmed she won’t be back as Lily Iglehart for season four.
She said: “I’m not [returning], actually, which is sad, very sad. It’s just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen.”
Patricia Allison is also not going to feature as Lily’s love interest, Ola Nyman.
She said: “I won’t be joining the team for season 4. I absolutely have loved my time on ‘Sex Education’, and I’m so sorry to have to break that to you guys.
“I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve loved it.”
Simone Ashley has also quit the show because her work on ‘Bridgerton’ has left her too busy to film scenes as the popular Olivia Hanan.
Asked about her future on ‘Sex Education’, she said in April: “I get asked that all the time. No, I’m a ‘Bridgerton’ girl now.”

Dara O’Briain hits back at Andrew Neill after Mock the Week comment

OHMYGOSSIP — Dara O’Briain has hit back at Andrew Neill, after he said ‘Mock the Week’ “deserved to be cancelled”.
The 50-year-old TV presenter has hosted the BBC Two comedy panel show since it began in 2005, but it was confirmed this week that the programme is to end after more than 17 years.
Following the news, broadcaster Andrew retweeted a Spectator article entitled “Mock the Week deserved to be cancelled”.
In response, Dara took a swipe at Andrew, who resigned as chairman and lead presenter of GB News in September 2021 just three months after he helped to launch the channel.
Dara tweeted: “Still, at least I didn’t bail on it after two weeks and f*** off to my house in France, eh Andrew? All the best! X (sic)”
But Dara’s tweet led to him having some “enjoyable” conversations with ‘Mock the Week’ fans about the show on social media, and the comedian joked supporters shouldn’t worry about him having work.
The star joked he is going to be in the new ‘Batgirl’ movie, which was scrapped by Warner Bros. this week, despite already being filmed.
He wrote: “Have really enjoyed all the chat about Mock today. It’s been really sweet, thank you, and people have been kindly checking I still have work after this. Of course I do! Exciting news: I’m in the new Batgirl movie! I got an e-mail today about release dates, must check that. (sic)”
Dara confirmed this week that ‘Mock the Week’ – which has featured panellists including Hugh Dennis, Frankie Boyle, Chris Addison, Russell Howard, and Ed Byrne over the years – is to end after more than 17 years.
He said in a statement: “That’s it folks, the UK has finally run out of news.
“The storylines were getting crazier and crazier – global pandemics, divorce from Europe, novelty short-term prime ministers. It couldn’t go on.
“And so, regretfully, we are closing the doors on Dara and Hugh’s Academy for Baby Comedians. We just couldn’t be more silly than the news was already.
“Huge thanks to all our guests over the years, so many of whom went on to huge successes of their own, and never write or call. It was a joy!”
The BBC said in a statement: “We are really proud of the show but after 21 series we have taken the difficult decision in order to create room for new shows.”

Jacques O’Neill: I was so angry with my mum for telling the world I have ADHD

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Love Island’ star Jacques O’Neill was “so angry” at his mum for revealing he had ADHD.
The 23-year-old reality star quit the ITV2 dating show in July after admitting he wasn’t feel himself, following the Casa Amor stage of the programme, when he smooched one of the newcomers, despite being coupled up with Paige Thorne.
A few days before his departure, Jacques’ family revealed he was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) as a child amid the backlash over his treatment of Paige.
Jacques has now admitted he nearly deleted the social media post telling the world he has ADHD, but it has ended up being a positive in his life.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “When I got out, I was so ready to delete that, but I was so angry with my mum. I was like, ‘Why have you put that out? It’s looking like an excuse for my behaviour.’
“With me I’m very like … I deal with everything, it’s not about ADHD. We struggle, people with ADHD will understand me, we struggle a lot different to someone without ADHD.”
The rugby league player admits he was scared after being inundated with “so much hate” and death threats.
But since his mum spoke out about his diagnosis, Jacques has been overwhelmed by messages of support from fellow ADHD sufferers, who have dubbed him a “role model” and an “inspiration”.
He added: “When I first came out, it was very different for me. I was scared, very scared of life and what was to come next for me.
“When I was in that holding villa after I left, I just wanted my mum, all I wanted to do was just be with my mum and just go into hiding. I was getting so much hate, me and my mum were getting death threats and everything.
“I started getting loads of people contacting me and saying I’m an inspiration with the ADHD side and a bit of a role model.
“I was getting fully grown men messaging me saying, ‘Love you, you’re an inspiration,’ I was overwhelmed with it all.
“If it wasn’t for the people supporting me or giving me that love, I’d be in such a bad place, I can’t thank them enough really.”

Ross Kemp returning to host Bridge of Lies season 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp will return to host ‘Bridge of Lies’ season two.
The BBC game show, which debuted in 2021, will once again be putting contestants through their paces by testing their knowledge.
Ross, 58, said: “I felt sure we hadn’t seen the last of that formidable bridge! Hosting this show, with all its jeopardy, tension and hilarious moments, was one of the most enjoyable parts of my year and I’m delighted that it’s been recommissioned by the BBC.
“The Bridge of Lies is tailor-made for a celeb version so I’m looking forward to putting teams of famous faces to the test. My main tip for them? No matter who you are or what you do, the bridge makes allowances for no one!”
The show sees a team of contestants battle it out for prize money by crossing a bridge made from stepping stones.
Players must get from A to B by stepping on the truths while avoiding the lies or risk falling through the bridge and walking away empty handed.
The show, which has been commissioned for BBC One Daytime, will also feature a celebrity special that’s set to air in early 2023, with regular episodes to follow later in 2023.
BBC Commissioning Director Kate Phillips added: “’Bridge of Lies’ was a big hit with Daytime audiences, so to bring it back for a second series and commission a primetime version is very exciting.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing our competitive celebrities deal with the pressure of the bridge and the pressure of being in the funny and formidable company of Ross, our superb host.”

The TV personality started off the week-long hike on the South West Coast Path in North Devon on Wednesday (03.08.22) in honour of his late friend – who passed away from lung cancer in August 2021 – and he was accompanied by fellow comedian Lee Mack.
According to Bill, the walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon was one of Sean’s favourite routes.
At the time of writing, former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ champion Bill has managed to raise more than £70,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support via his “A Walk for Sean Lock” JustGiving page.
Bill shared pictures of the trek on the page, with one accompanied by the caption: “We’re off! 100 miles for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
On his charity page, the 57-year-old comedian wrote: “On the 7-day walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon, one of our favourite routes, I will be joined by Sean’s family and friends. The walk will be a chance to get together and celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much. Every penny donated will help Macmillan to provide emotional, physical and financial support for people living with cancer in the UK. (sic)”
In a previous interview on ‘This Morning’, Bill told co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby how Sean had a passion for the great outdoors, and admitted the pair always tried to make the most of their final years together by going on multiple trips.
He said: “He had been diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago and it was at the time quite a blow, particularly when it was quite advanced.
“We’ve tried to make the most of the last few years. We spent a lot of time together and went on trips together. And he’s continued to work.
“We used to walk for miles. We’d talk about everything. Sean was brilliant company.”

Joker 2 will be released in October 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Joker 2’ will be released in October 2024.
‘Joker 2: Folie à Deux’ – which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga – is a musical sequel to the 2019 original and is expected to drop on October 4 2024.
According to Deadline, the movie – directed by Todd Phillips – is rumoured to be a musical and its title is a French phrase, which translates to refer to a mental disorder than impacts two or more people.
The film comes after the original took home a record breaking $96.2 million at the box office during its opening weekend. In total, it took $1.07 billion internationally, making it highest ever grossing R-Rated movie.
Joaquin – who play the title character – and Hildur Guðnadóttir took home Acamedy Awards, for Best Actor and Original Music Score respectively. Overall, the flick was nominated for 11 Oscars, including the top prize Best Picture and Best Director for Todd.
The news of the release date came from a update from Comscore and comes just after the DC Extended Universe movie, ‘Batgirl’ – starring Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser – was given the heave-ho by HBO Max despite being in post-production.
The film’s director Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah expressed their sadness about the news, which they learnt while in Morocco for Adil’s wedding, with guests including Will Smith.
They wrote on Instagram: “We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it.
They added: “As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves.
“Our amazing cast and crew did a tremendous job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life. We are forever grateful to have been part of that team,” they added.
“In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honour to have been part of the DCEU [DC Extended Universe], even if it was for a brief moment. Batgirl for life.”
Leslie – who shot to fame in the movie musical ‘In the Heights’ – tweeted she was “proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months”, adding she felt “blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process”.

Gwendoline Christie wants Star Wars return

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwendoline Christie would “absolutely love” to return to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
The 43-year-old actress’ character Captain Phasma was killed off in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi’ but the First Order stormtrooper went on to appear in the animated series ‘Star Wars Resistance’ and there is even a ‘Star Wars: Captain Phasma’ comic book tale, so the star would be delighted if a possibility to reprise the role ever arose.
She told Empire magazine: “I haven’t read the comics but, I mean, it’s Star Wars! I would absolutely love that.
“There was a template for a character that people got really excited about. It would be smashing if they felt that it was worthwhile to explore, along with some fabulous action.”
While she waits for a possible movie return, the former ‘Game of Thrones’ star is excited about the possibility of playing through the ‘LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’ as Phasma.
She joked: “This is the next step for me, because as a teenager I was quite obsessed with computer games, and I was quite good at them. I think it’s time to revisit them because they could be everything I had initially wanted them to be. There are entire worlds out there [where] we can investigate our megalomania!”
Gwendoline previously admitted she had dreamed of being in a ‘Star Wars’ film since she was just six years old.
She said: “I can remember the precise moment I was cast as Captain Phasma in ‘Star Wars’. It was an explosion of unbelievable joy.
“For a long time, I had campaigned to be in the franchise to anyone who would listen,
“It was an ambition motivated by one of my earliest memories, of when, aged six, I was placed in front of the flamboyant space opera.
“I marvelled at this fantasy world in a way I couldn’t yet articulate, with its misfits and droids and a woman who fought the enemy with intelligence, who was funny and refused to be shackled – the inimitable Princess Leia.
“I recall thinking even then, ‘She isn’t like all the other women on TV. She won’t be told what to do.’ ”

Patton Oswalt ‘confirms’ Eternals sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Patton Oswalt has seemingly confirmed an ‘Eternals’ sequel.
The 53-year-old actor joined Harry Styles in a brief post-credits scene as Pip and Eros/Starfox, respectively, and now Oswalt has claimed both look set to return for “more adventures” with Chloé Zhao back to helm the second movie in the Marvel superhero series.
Appearing on ‘The Today Show’, he let slip: “Harry Styles and I are in a little post-credits sequence in the Eternals. I play Pip the Troll, he plays Starfox, Thanos’ brother.
They have announced there’s going to be an ‘Eternals’ sequel. Chloé Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip.”
Although Oswalt said the sequel was “announced”, neither Marvel nor Zhao have officially confirmed a sequel.
However, the studio’s boss Kevin Feige has already teased there is more to come from the Troll and Thanos’ brother.
He said: “The adventures of Eros and Pip is something that is very exciting for us.
“You’re talking about Ghost Rider, we’ve got Blade, we’ve got Doctor Strange with the supernatural angles. We’ve got the street-level with our announcement of Daredevil and of course Spidey, going into the street-level heroes. And cosmic. And that’s where our friends Eros and Pip live.”
Zhao previously insisted she expected ‘Eternals’ to get mixed reviews.
The 39-year-old director of the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster was not shocked by the response.
She said: “‘Eternals’ was planned to be released soon after ‘Endgame’, and not at a time when everyone is having an existential crisis.
“The film itself is about existential crisis, both for humanity and God. So I think we definitely felt it was coming.”
The Oscar-winning director explained that she will not be put off by criticism of the movie – which starred Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and Salma Hayek.
She said: “I think the need for consensus is a hindrance for any authentic creative process, just like it’s a hindrance for living an authentic life as a person.
“I have been receiving end of somewhat consensus, and divisiveness about my work. Neither of them has any real influence on me as an artist, because every time I’m lucky enough to create, I learn from the process. From what I’ve succeeded (at), and what I’ve failed (at). But that learning process is a very intimate affair.”
She continued: “Anything beyond that, for me, it’s just part of the ecosystem that exists because of the nature of the industry we’re in. Like a flower or a rock, I acknowledge and appreciate their presence. But that’s as far as it goes.”
Zhao also feels that she made people “uncomfortable” with ‘Eternals’ as she ventured into a big studio movie for the first time.
She said: “In this case, we truly stepped out of the box that I think the world put us in, and met in the middle because of our shared interests. And by truly doing that, it made a lot of people uncomfortable on both sides.”

Tilda Swinton will chair the jury at the BFI and Chanel Filmmaker Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Tilda Swinton will chair the jury at the BFI and Chanel Filmmaker Awards.
The ‘French Dispatch’ star will helm the judging panel at the inaugural awards, which will see the British Film Institute team up with the French fashion house to give three emerging filmmakers £20,000 who show original ideas, take risks and want to explore a new angle to their movies.
The 61-year-old actress will announce the trio of winners on September 29 during the BFI’s fundraising gala, Luminous, which raises money for the organization’s educational aims.
Tilda will be joined on the panel by Ben Roberts, the CEO of the BF!, Marie-Louise Khondji, the founder of the Le Cinema Club and producer and Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue.
They will select the victors from an array of filmmakers selected to apply by panel of film industry professionals. To apply, producers, directors, writers must be UK residents who have made one or two feature films or XR/immersive works that have been made available to UK audiences, either via streaming or cinema release.
They will be whittled down to seven strong set list and hope to emphasis underrepresented perspectives – with one of the prizes guaranteed going to a female or non-binary individual – and must adhere to BFI Diversity Standards.
Of her position, Tilda said: “Both the BFI and the House of Chanel are acknowledged beacons long-committed not only to the vibrancy of the new but also to the conscientious and dedicated custodianship of our precious cultural archive. The partnership of the two is a powerful and meaningful alliance. It is my good fortune to work closely with these two families in my own daily practice: the spreading of this good fortune to more and more artists is a cause for real celebration. The Filmmaker Awards will grow this fellowship significantly and the Luminous Gala raises crucial financial support for this indispensable public endeavor. It is my sincere honor to serve this awesome combo initiative in any way possible.”

Lashana Lynch to play Bob Marley’s wife Rita in new biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Lashana Lynch is to play Bob Marley’s wife in a new biopic.
The ‘No Time To Die’ star – who portrayed MI6 agent Nomi in the James Bond motion picture – is said to be in line to take on the role of Rita Marley in the as-yet untitled film for Paramount.
Sources have told Deadline that there was a lengthy search to find the right actress for the part, and movie bosses were keen to find someone with Jamaican descent. While Lynch was born in London, her family is from Jamaica.
Rita and the Marley family are said to have given their blessing to Lynch being cast in the film.
Kingsley Ben-Adir is set to portray the legendary singer in the movie, which will be helmed by ‘King Richard’ director Reinaldo Marcus Green and produced by Rita and her and Bob’s son Ziggy, and daughter Cedella Marley.
Bob tragically died of cancer in 1981 at the age of 36, but he is widely considered one of the pioneers of reggae music.
The late star had 11 children with seven different partners, and Ziggy, 51, previously admitted his mother Rita, 76, Bob’s widow, treated them all like her own.
He said: “Some people didn’t approve of Bob seeing other women while he was married to my mother, but I didn’t know too much about it, so it never bothered me. I know that my mother didn’t like it, but she wasn’t the kind of person to be vindictive or jealous.
“As far as she was concerned, Damian [whose mother is Cindy Breakspeare, a former Miss World] was Bob’s child and all of Bob’s children were her children too.”
While Bob was known as the king of chill, Ziggy previously admitted his father could be a tough parent because he was aware of the “danger” of life in Jamaica.
He said: “Growing up in Jamaica in the 1970s could be dangerous. There were guns everywhere. But as a kid the danger felt exciting. Every day was an adventure. I did not understand the seriousness of the situation. There were times when my father would tell me not to play on the street because he wanted to keep me safe. If I disobeyed him, he would give me a spanking.
“People think Bob was laid back about everything, but he was tough when it came to discipline.
“That is a traditional type of Caribbean parenting – old-school. Kids grow up very differently today.”

Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti win ‘Love Island’ 2022 – and split £50k prize in new rule

OHMYGOSSIP — Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu and Davide Sanclimenti have won ‘Love Island’ 2022 – and will split the £50,000 prize money under a new show rule.
The pair beat Gemma and Luca who finished second place as show bosses announced the “split or steal” choice that came with the jackpot was being ditched.
In previous years, winners picked an envelope either containing the prize or nothing, with one then deciding whether to share or keep the whole £50,000
Ekin-Su and Davide were fan and bookies’ favourites going into Monday night’s final (01.08.22)
The Turkish actress jumped into businessman Davide’s arms and he said he “couldn’t believe it”.
Ekin-Su had reportedly told a friend how she would be “tempted” to steal the whole prize pot if her connection wasn’t genuine.
Asked what Ekin thought she would do if she won she is said to have written in a text: ‘It’s a game show at the end of the day, it’s business. If it’s not genuine I’d be tempted.
‘But I’m at the right age to find the right guy. I know what I’m looking for. I want to find The One.’
Ekin-Su said of making the final two on this year’s Love Island: “It feels so surreal finding the man of your dreams and just growing.”
Speaking about what she liked most about Davide, she added: “Apart from the perfect body, I would definitely say there was an instant spark and a genuine butterfly feeling.”
She also summed up their relationship as “absolutely bonkers”, while Davide said he “couldn’t believe it”.
Gemma admitted she and Luca are “stubborn as hell” and added: “We both bicker like mad.”
Monday night’s finale saw the four remaining couples glam up for the show’s annual summer ball.
Along with Ekin-Su and Davide, both 27, the last remaining Islanders were Luca Bish, 24, and Gemma Owen, 19, Dami Hope, 26, and Indiyah Polack, 23, and finally Tasha Ghouri, 24, and Andrew Le Page, 27.
Tasha and Andrew were first to be booted out in fourth place, followed by Dami and Indiyah.
Host Laura Whitmore said Tasha and Andrew’s love was “so obvious”, and Dami told the presenter “all roads led to Indiyah” when he sat with Indiyah for their exit chat.
Ekin-Su could reportedly now make £16,000 an episode as a soap star on Turkish TV after she appeared on TV drama ‘Kuzey Yildizi’.
Davide runs a shisha business providing “only the finest” electronic hookah products to restaurants and nightclubs.
The company, S Deluxe Shisha, is run from his Manchester base.
He said before going into the villa: “I’m good looking and I’ve realised since I first arrived in Manchester, a lot of English girls actually love me.”
This year’s show controversies included Billy slamming Luca and Dami for “bullying” Tasha, and his co-star Josh insisting producers should have stopped it.
Ofcom was bombarded with complaints over alleged misogynistic behaviour on ‘Movie Night’ and a game of ‘Snog, Marry, Avoid’ in which Tasha was targeted.
Ahead of the summer ball, the Islanders prepared with a “hot Latin dance” lesson.
Andrew said: “Good that Tasha’s next to me because I cannot move to save my life.”
Ekin-Su enthused about her and Davide: “Be the best, why not?”

The retired football ace gushed about how well his 19-year-old daughter had done on the ITV2 dating competition after snagging second place with 23-year-old fishmonger, Luca Bish, who she has been with since the show’s second week, losing out to winners Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.
After not appearing on the hotly-anticipated parent’s episode, the 42-year-old sporting legend tweeted on Monday (01.08.22) alongside a snap with Gemma: “She’s done us proud.”
Michael – who also has kids James, 16, Emily, 14, and Jessica, 12, with wife Louise – posted the same photo to his Instagram and admitted he needed his “special girl” to “hurry up home”.
During her stint in the villa, Gemma’s mum gave a message from her papa, saying: “Honestly, he is really proud of you, really proud.”
While appearing on ‘Sky Sports At the Races’, Michael gave the reason why he was a no-show.
He said: “My wife will do that duty. I’ll represent the horses and she’ll represent the daughter.
“I don’t know what I’ll get from Box To Box. But I know what I’m going to get from my daughter.
“I’ve fathered her for 19 years so I’m pretty sure what I’m going to get from her.”
When it was announced the international dressage rider was heading into the villa, the ex-Liverpool player coined it “every father’s worst nightmare”.
Michael said: “I have no doubts that she will make us all proud. It’s probably a father’s worst nightmare, but whatever she wants to do you’ve got to be supportive. I’ve heard a lot about it.
I think old, grumpy men like me will always have an opinion on it because I don’t watch it and you just hear snippets, but she assures me it’s not as bad as I think.
“It’s quite a big thing and whatever she wants to do, you have to be supportive and I think I’ve given her a decent enough grounding to be respectful.”
