Dame Joanna Lumley would be ‘quite happy’ to have a gin and tonic for supper

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Joanna Lumley would be “quite happy” to have a gin and tonic for supper.
The 76-year-old actress – who is known for her role as boozy fashion editor Patsy Stone on iconic sitcom ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ alongside Jennifer Saunders as hapless PR guru Edina Monsoon – admitted that she “doesn’t have a sweet tooth” and prefers salty snacks for dinner.
She said: “I would be quite happy with a gin and tonic and some nuts for supper. I do love crisps too, especially when combined with the excuse of a dip. It means you can try all kinds of tortillas and stuff. I don’t have a sweet tooth. I have a salty tooth. I don’t long for chocolates or cakes.”
The former model went on to explain that when she moved to London in the 1960s, she and her flatmates were without a fridge and once bought “very cheap offal” intended for cats but claimed that people were “thinner” in those days because there was not a widespread culture of fast food that exists today.
She told the MailOnline: “When I moved to London, four of us shared a flat in Earl’s Court and we didn’t have a fridge.
So we’d store the milk on the windowsill. If occasionally, as a model, I was taken out to dinner, I would steal the bread rolls and put them in my bag to take home.I remember once buying some very cheap offal from the butcher called melts [ox spleen]. You usually feed it to pets. We thought, well, if cats can eat it, we probably can too. It was utterly repellent. In those days, everybody was thinner because there was no fast food. Now there are all these delivery companies.
This idea that your life is so busy that you can’t be bothered to shop, with people just bringing stuff to you… it’s terribly expensive. Just make it yourself!”

Kevin Smith condemns Warner Bros’ shelving of Latin-led ‘Batgirl’ film as ‘incredibly bad look’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Smith is condemning Warner Bros’ cancellation of the Latin-led ‘Batgirl’ film as an “incredibly bad look”.
Despite the fact film’s $90 million (£73.7 million) shoot had been completed earlier this year, the studio announced there were no longer plans for the film to be released in any format.
In a recent edition of his YouTube series, ‘Hollywood Babble-On’, filmmaker Kevin highlighted that because Latina actress Leslie Grace, 27, was due to take on the role of Barbara Gordon in the film, the axing of ‘Batgirl’ felt particularly disappointing.
The superhero-obsessed ‘Clerks’ director said: “It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina Batgirl movie.
“I don’t give a s*** if the movie was absolute f****** dog**** – I guarantee you that it wasn’t.”
He said the fact the directors of the film, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, were behind it was proof it would have been a quality project.
Kevin, 52, whose films are packed with anorak superhero references, added: “The two directors who directed that movie did a couple of episodes of ‘Ms Marvel’, and it was a wonderful f****** show and they had more money to do ‘Batgirl’ than they had to do an episode of ‘Ms Marvel’ and stuff.”
El Arbi and Bilall Fallah released separate statements expressing their shock at their film being scrapped, while Leslie Grace said that she felt “blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process”.
Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav said: “We’re not going to launch a movie until it’s ready.”

June Spencer quits The Archers at the age of 103

OHMYGOSSIP — June Spencer has quit ‘The Archers’ after 72 years.
The 103-year-old actress has appeared on the BBC Radio soap opera as Peggy Woolley since its first episodes in 1950 and is the second- longest serving soap actor in the world but announced on Monday (08.08.22) that she is retiring from the show and her final episode was broadcast on July 31.
In a statement, she said: “In 1950 I helped to plant an acorn. It took root and in January 1951 it was planted out and called ‘The Archers’. Over the years it has thrived and become a splendid great tree with many branches. But now this old branch, known as Peggy, has become weak and unsafe so I decided it was high time she ‘boughed’ out, so I have duly lopped her.”
June- who was given a a lifetime achievement award at the 2014 BBC audio drama awards and was made a CBE in the 2017 birthday honours for services to drama and charity – took a break from the show in 1954 but returned in 1961 and has spent a total of 65 years playing the role, so is beaten to the record by ‘The Archers’ Lesley Sawear, who has sent 67 years as Christine Barford .
‘The Archers’ editor Jeremy Howe said: “I think working with June Spencer has been one of the greatest privileges of my many decades in drama. Her Peggy is one of the great creations of broadcasting – utterly charming, utterly ruthless, sharp as a knife and witty in spades.
To think that June has commanded the airwaves over an Archers career of over 70 years beggars belief. I have rarely worked with such an inventive, focused and technically brilliant actor, or such a lovely person. Myself and The Archers’ team and cast wish June a well-deserved and long retirement – and I know that if she doesn’t think the show is up to the mark, June will be letting us know. Bravo the legend that is June Spencer.”
Meanwhile, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall – who once made a guest appearance as herself on the show – noted: “Peggy is a true national treasure who has been part of my life, and millions of others, for as long as I can remember.”

She told OK! Magazine: “There were many best men. The speeches went on a little long. So it was two of Joe’s best mates and all his sons and that. The kids were all pageboys and bridesmaids. It was very moving because Joe’s mum walked him up the aisle because he lost his dad a long time ago. We’re really close with the Swash family – they live opposite me. Everyone cried. Stacey was crying, Joe was crying, everyone was crying.”
Following the service, former ‘X Factor’ contestant Stacey described the whole day as a “dream.”
Stacey told her 5.3 million Instagram followers: “Forever. Me and My Husband. I don’t think I will ever get used to saying that. It all feels like a dream. It was a special day that we didn’t want to end. We love you all and the special community we’ve built on here.”(sic)

Daniel Mays: Stephen Graham is my Cilla Black

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Mays says Stephen Graham was his Cilla Black.
The 44-year-old actor is married to Louise Burton and has 17-year-old Mylo and daughter Dixie, nine, with her but admitted that he was “too scared” to ask her on a date and that his ‘Line of Duty’ co-star was his version of the late TV legend, who played matchmaker to hundreds of couples on ITV dating show ‘Blind Date’ for almost two decades between 1985 and 2003.
He said: “Stephen is my Cilla Black. He’s a Scouser too, there’s the connection. He was a matchmaker for me and my wife. She was a makeup artist and we were working on show years ago and I couldn’t ask her out, I was too scared. But then Stephen stepped in and put us together. It’s all his fault!”
Meanwhile, Daniel has teamed up with Stephen, 49, once again for a new series of Sky Comedy show ‘Code 404’, which he describes as a “slapstick twist” on their BBC police drama and revealed that he managed to get his daughter a part in the first episode before joking that he “doesn’t know where she gets it from.”.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he told stand-in host Ranvir Singh: “We’ve got Stephen Graham and Anna Maxwell Martin in the show. All three of us have been in ‘Line of Duty’ so this is a kind of twist on it all. ‘Code 404’ you kind of leave your brain in the corridor with it. It’s slapstick, it’s silly and it’s a whole lot of fun really. It’s just a chance for Stephen and I to play in the comedy world and we had such a ball making it for six weeks and we never stopped giggling with each other.”
“My daughter Dixie, who is nine years old, she appears in the first episode as a cheeky school girl. When I read it in the script, I thought ‘I know exactly the person who could play that’ and she was absolutely fantastic. She was so relaxed and assured on set and loved it. I think she wants to do more. My son was in ‘Matilda’ in the West End but I think Mylo is more interested in going behind the scenes. I don’t know where they get it from!”
The third series of ‘Code 404’ started airing in the UK on Thursday 4 August at 9pm and will be shown as double-bills over three weeks.

Kylie Minogue’s tears for Neighbours

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue admitted “there were tears” when she filmed a cameo in the final episode of ‘Neighbours’.
The 54-year-old superstar reprised her role as mechanic Charlene Mitchell alongside on-screen husband Scott Robinson – played by Jason Donovan – in the final episode of the Australian soap opera last month and admitted it was an emotional day of filming.
She shared a number of pictures of herself and Jason, 54, in character as Charlene and Scott and wrote: “Yep, there were tears! Congratulations to the @neighbours team for the heart-warming and celebratory finale. You’ll be in my heart always!!! #neighbours @jdonofficial.”
Jason previously shared some pictures of himself and Kylie and wrote: “So good to be back with this absolute legend @kylieminogue. Scott and Charlene final scenes @neighbours.”
Meanwhile, it was previously revealed that Kylie “didn’t want to overshadow” the current cast of ‘Neighbours’ during its finale episode.
Following criticism from fans that she only uttered two lines, producer and writer Jason Herbison explained that her appearance was “always going to be small.”
He said: “Our discussions with Jason and Kylie were always about making a small appearance. They didn’t want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them.”
Kylie joined the cast of ‘Neighbours’ in 1986 but left the series in 1988 to embark on a pop career and went on to enjoy decades of chart success with hits such as ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, and ‘Can’t Get You out of My Head’ and even teamed up with then-boyfriend Jason to release chart-topper ‘Especially For You’ in 1989, which could be heard playing as the on-screen couple made their return to Ramsay Street in the finale.
And Herbison went on to explain that Kylie and Jason’s scenes were shot before he had even written the episode and “hates” to see the ‘Spinning Around’ legend facing backlash.
He told TV Tonight: “We also filmed their scenes before I’d written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that. I hate to see Kylie copping any criticism – she was nothing short of amazing on the day.”
‘Neighbours’ initially aired on BBC One from 1986 until 2008 before being shown on Channel 5 and the soap relied on funding from the British network but in February 2022, the broadcaster confirmed they were to focus on UK drama instead.

Leslie Grace reacts to Batgirl being scrapped

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Batgirl’ titular star Leslie Grace is “proud” of the “love, hard work and intention” of the cast and crew, after the $90 million film was scrapped by Warner Bros.
The 27-year-old actress was due to play the heroine in the motion picture, which has completed shooting, but a decision has been made to axe the movie following a “strategic shift” in leadership at Warner Bros.
But Grace has taken to Instagram to put on a brave face, admitting she feels “blessed” to have worked alongside “absolute greats” on the film – which was also due to star Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser, J. K. Simmons, and Jacob Scipio – and she thanked ‘Batgirl’ fans for allowing her to “take on the cape”.
She wrote: “Querida familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie “Batgirl,” I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, “my own damn hero!”
#Batgirl for life! (sic)”
Warner Bros has explained the decision to scrap ‘Batgirl’, and revealed ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt’ has also been axed.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement: “The decision to not release ‘Batgirl’ reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of ‘Batgirl’ and ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt’ and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.”
‘Batgirl’ – which was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah – was initially set to be an HBO Max release, and was being considered for theatrical distribution.
Speaking previously about his role as Commissioner James Gordon in ‘Batgirl’, Simmons, 67, previously called the movie a “treat” and indicated there would be plenty of “domestic” scenes with his on-screen daughter Barbara Gordon/ Batgirl.
Simmons said: “‘Batgirl’ was a treat, for a number of reasons. My little bit in ‘Justice League’ was, at the time, meant to be, ‘Look, we’re gonna introduce this guy and we’re gonna see more of him in the future.’ I didn’t have a whole lot to do.
“In ‘Batgirl’, because of the relationship between Commissioner Gordon and his daughter, it’s much more of a domestic aspect of Jim Gordon. We do get to see some fun, out in the street … well, I’m gonna stop now because I really don’t wanna do any spoilers.
“But it was fun to the stuff with Leslie Grace, who plays Batgirl, and get to portray a different aspect of Jim Gordon, other than as Commissioner Gordon.”
