The BBC has become scared of taking risks, says Jonathan Ross

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Ross thinks the BBC has become scared of taking “risks”.
The TV star has accused the broadcaster of being reluctant to try new things since the Sachsgate scandal, when he and Russell Brand left rude messages on the answering machine of actor Andrew Sachs in 2008.
Jonathan, 61, told Dermot O’Leary on his ‘People, Just People’ podcast: “I wish it was a little bit more interesting. A lot of the time it feels like they don’t take risks any more, which they used to.
“Obviously I’m part of the reason they don’t do that any more, because of the huge cock-up of me and Russell on his show.
“It’s one of the reasons they allowed themselves to be beaten back into a position of ‘Oh, don’t take risks, don’t take chances.'”
Jonathan understands the BBC’s position, but he admits to turning away from the broadcaster because of its risk-averse approach.
The TV star – who previously hosted his own show on BBC Radio 2 – shared: “To an extent I sympathise with that, but at the same time that’s why I don’t listen a lot.”
Despite the scandal and ensuing public outrage, Jonathan thinks the incident was actually “blown out of proportion”.
Explaining his reaction to the controversy, Jonathan said: “I didn’t want the people who were going for me and going for Russell to win. That would have been their victory.
“I didn’t want to throw anyone under the bus, but after the recording I actually said. ‘You know, you can’t put that out unless we have his [Sachs’s] permission?’ … that’s why the BBC couldn’t fire me.”
Despite this, Jonathan was suspended without pay for 12 weeks and the BBC was fined £150,000 by the regulator Ofcom.

Ekin-Su Culculoglu ‘suffered a panic attack amid love fears’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ekin-Su Culculoglu suffered a “mini panic attack” in the ‘Love Island’ villa.
The 27-year-old star has revealed she suffered a panic amid fears over what Davide Saclimenti was doing in Casa Amor.
Ekin-Su – who won the recent series alongside Davide – shared: “You can’t pretend or act on there. If you act your mask would eventually come off.
“At one point in Casa the medics came. I had a mini panic attack because I was worried about what Davide was doing … They said to me it’s OK.”
Ekin-Su also insisted she has no issues with her love rival, Nathalia Campos, who tried to impress Davide with her Nutella pancakes.
She told ITV’s ‘Lorraine’: “Natalia’s pancakes were nice. They were different, mine were a healthy version, not as sweet. She did good. We’re fine.
“You’ve gotta have those moments but it’s all good. And it’s all real, nothing for show. If it wasn’t working … I felt like walking out at one time. If I couldn’t have Davide, I didn’t want anyone else.”
Ekin-Su has enjoyed a really positive reaction from the public since she returned home.
And the TV star is convinced she’s found the “perfect man”.
She said: “The response has been absolutely overwhelming. I’m so grateful I went on the show. I didn’t think I’d find love and I ended up finding perfect man.
“Not only the perfect body but the perfect man. I had no idea I had all that love and support, I’m thankful to everyone – even my haters! I’m over the moon.
“Davide is in Manchester at the moment, I’m in London. I’ve been really busy, I’ve got loads of projects lined up. It’s surreal, I don’t even know what to say, that’s how happy I am.”

BBC changed the name of Grange Hill, admits Sir Phil Redmond

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC changed the name of ‘Grange Hill’ amid fears of offending existing schools.
The children’s TV show portrays life in a typical comprehensive school, but Sir Phil Redmond – the creator – was forced to change the name of the programme.
He told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper: “It was called Grange Park because that’s an area I worked in St Helens.
“I can’t remember if there were too many schools called Grange Park, or whether there were too few, but the legal department said, ‘We’ll have everybody complaining, so we need to change it’.”
The hit TV show aired on the BBC for 30 years, between 1978 and 2008, but the broadcaster was desperately keen to avoid any legal issues from the outset.
Earlier this year, meanwhile, Phil announced his plans for a ‘Grange Hill’ movie.
The acclaimed producer – who also created soaps ‘Brookside’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ – revealed that a number of high-profile public figures, including former Prime Minster David Cameron, were fans of the long-running show.
He shared: “It’s astonishing how many people tell me it was their favourite programme. Especially politicians.
“David Cameron told me his favourite character was [school bully] Gripper Stebson. It breaks the ice when you’re trying to get them to do things.”
Phil also promised that the ‘Grange Hill’ movie will reflect the issues facing school children in 2022.
He said: “Childhood doesn’t really change. What changes are fashion, haircuts and slang. Once you’ve got the theme and the tone, it’s all about casting – the actors bring you what’s right at the time, you’ve just got to let them be natural.”

Strictly Come Dancing stars ‘were given dog codenames’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ stars were given dog codenames in a bid to keep their identity a secret.

Kym Marsh – who starred on the ITV soap `Coronation Street’ – was known as Dalmatian, due to her favourite Disney flick being ‘101 Dalmatians’, while Tony Adams was called Greyhound because of his spindly frame.
‘Loose Women’ panellist Kaye Adams’ was given the codename Scottish Terror, which was a nod to her homeland, while Bros singer Matt Goss was called American Bulldog due to the time he’s spent in the US over recent years.

The 39-year-old presenter – who was known as Beagle – said: “I did the Christmas one the other year. The hair is the best, the make-up is incredible, the costumes are incredible. Who gets to go to work and be made to look a bit like Beyonce and have a fun time?
“I thought this is madness not to do it, of course I should do it, it will be so much fun.”

Jordan Peele has ‘ideas’ for his next film

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Peele has “a few ideas” for his next movie.
The 43-year-old director’s latest film ‘Nope’ has surpassed the $100 million mark at the US box office and he revealed that he started thinking of details for his next movie, although he intends to take some time out watching other movies first.
Speaking to Empire, Jordan said: “I don’t know what’s next, there are a few ideas percolating. I need to kind of sink into the world a little bit and allow the world to sort of tell me which one is the next one.
“So that’s what my next couple of months will be spent doing… Sitting, watching, waiting, looking at my coffee. If you watch good films you’ll get inspired, even if it has nothing to do with anything you want to do.
“That will work for me. Sometimes the inspiration comes instantly, and sometimes it comes in a long time. I do need to do some watching and listening, can’t just be always expressing yourself. You’ve got to listen.”
Peele previously revealed that he planned to release four social thrillers over the decade and he always wants humans to be at the centre of his work.
The ‘Get Out’ director explained: “The best and scariest monsters in the world are human beings and what we are capable of especially when we get together.
“I’ve been working on these premises about these different social demons, these innately human monsters that are woven into the fabric of how we think and how we interact, and each one of my movies is going to be about a different one of these social demons.”

Ewan McGregor rules out Marvel move

OHMYGOSSIP — Ewan McGregor is unsure about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ actor was quizzed about a potential switch to the MCU during Fan Expo Boston over the weekend but suggested that he isn’t looking to add another franchise to his filmography after playing the Jedi Master in the ‘Star Wars’ prequel trilogy.
Ewan said: “I don’t know. I don’t know that I want to do that. Because I love doing all different kinds of work. It’s true. I love to direct. I’d like to be in theatre again. I definitely want to do this again, you know, I’m in this ‘Star Wars’ world.
“I feel like I don’t need another… I’m not looking for that anyway. I feel like I shouldn’t say I wouldn’t do it because in two years time you’ll be like, ‘You said you were never going to do this!’ But I’m not looking for it particularly.”
The 51-year-old star has relished having the chance to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again in the Disney+ series and praised both Disney and Lucasfilm for prioritising the fans with their work.
Ewan explained: “That’s the beautiful thing about how passionate Disney, Lucasfilm, all of us who are involved with it, is from the beginning is we try really hard not to let anything of the bad just to protect your experience of seeing it for the first time.
“I think it’s really cool that Disney and Lucasfilm care so much for the fan experience. They really want you to have a 100 per cent experience the first time you see it, and if you’ve read that, and that leaked, and this came out, it’s just a bit of a shame isn’t it? It’s like looking at your Christmas presents before Christmas Day.”

Deborah Meaden’s Dragon’s Den makeup artist spotted cancerous pimple on her

OHMYGOSSIP — Deborah Meaden was diagnosed with skin cancer after her makeup artist on ‘Dragon’s Den’ noticed a pimple on her face.
The 63-year-old investor and entrepreneur has spoken for the first time about her cancer scare and how fortunate she is that it was caught early.
Speaking about the diagnosis to Vogue Williams’ on Boots’ ‘Taboo Talk’ podcast, Deborah said: “I was aware of [how much the sun could damage my skin], I’m quite fair-skinned but oddly I’ve never really burnt and I think that was a problem for me.
“I kind of thought that I was immune to it… I thought, I might look fair, but obviously my skin can handle it. So it was a bit of a shock when I realised there was some damage done.”
Deborah’s doctor found she had squamous of the skin, a common form of skin cancer that develops in the squamous cells that make up the middle and outer layers of the skin.
She shared: “I was filming Dragon’s Den, and I don’t get spots, but my makeup artist had noticed what looked like a [tiny little] whitehead that had been on my face for probably about six weeks.
“She kept saying, ‘That’s not right, Deborah’, and I thought, ‘OK that’s really weird, I don’t usually get spots’. I was going off to Africa and I thought, before I go, I just need to get that checked out.
“I sent a picture to my doctor, who said it could be something, it might not, but it could be something. Then he got me an appointment with a local hospital and I went along and they told me, ‘You’ve got squamous.’”
Deborah had the pimple removed and was very “lucky” to nip cancer in the bud and is raising awareness by imploring everyone to get their odd-looking pimples checked out and to wear at least Factor 50 suncream.
She added: “When I say I was lucky, we caught it incredibly early. I’m evangelical now about saying to people, if you’ve got a little odd pimple that won’t go, don’t just think it’s a pimple.
“I’ve always looked for moles, I know all the rules about moles, I’ve never looked for something that actually looked like a whitehead. I would never have known if it wasn’t for Sue, thank goodness.”

Simon Pegg recorded his role in Luck from a home studio

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Pegg recorded his role in ‘Luck’ from a home studio.
The 52-year-old actor – who lives in England but regularly works on projects in the United States – provided the voice of Scottish black cat Bob who befriends a teenage orphan in the new Apple+ animation and explained that these days there is “very little difference” where he shoots a movie because he has had a home studio built since the pandemic.
He said: “It’s a shorter commute if I make it in the United Kingdom, obviously, because I live there. I don’t know. I think it’s interesting with something like this, Luck, because I’m sort of doing both. I’m based in the UK and this was because of the pandemic as much as anything else. I’m in a little studio that’s been set up at my home, but I’m talking to Los Angeles and Peggy Holmes who’s directed me from there. So it’s a bit of a hands across the ocean moment there. And in that regard, making an animation in the US or the UK is exactly the same. There’s very little difference whatsoever.”
The ‘Hot Fuzz’ star – who has been married to music industry publicist Maureen Pegg and has 13-year-old Matilda with her – went on to tease that he has a “couple of things” in development but admitted that if money were no object, he would make the kind of movie he “misses” seeing at the cinema.
Asked what he would like to do if he could get the financial backing, Simon told Collider: “It probably wouldn’t be something vast and big. It would just be the chance to make…I have a couple of things that I’m developing right now, so I won’t talk about them specifically. But getting them made would be really fun without the haggle and wrangle of trying to get people to have faith in an original idea these days. That’s difficult. If you just had unlimited resources, you could make the kind of stuff I miss seeing at the cinema really.”
‘Luck’ is available to stream now on Apple+.

Brad Pitt has a black book of actors ‘he won’t work with again’

OHMYGOSSIP — Brad Pitt has a list of actors he won’t work with again, according to his ‘Bullet Train’ co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The 58-year-old Hollywood legend is said to keep notes on the actors who he loves and the ones he doesn’t wish to be on set with again, just like Aaron, 32.
Speaking to Variety, the latter said of Brad: “He just wants to bring light and joy into the world and be around people who are there to have a good time. You work with many actors and after a while you start making notes: ‘I am definitely not working with this person ever again.’ Brad has this list too: the ‘good’ list and the s*** list.”
One star who is definitely on his ‘good’ list is Sandra Bullock
Brad filmed a cameo for Sandra’s ‘The Lost City’ and she plays Maria Beetle, the handler of trained killer Ladybug (Pitt), in his latest movie ‘Bullet Train’ and Brad hopes he and his “old friend”, who is also 58, will collaborate again in the future.
The ‘Fight Club’ star said in a recent interview: “Sandy is an old friend. She’s a diehard person I could call for favours over the years and I have done many many times and she’s always there.
“Her timing was great, she was a great person to have in my ear in a situation like what which is actually kind of intimate. It just worked out really well and she had her film and I got to do a little bit of hers. I think we’ll continue to do the same.”
The ‘By the Sea’ star was also full of praise for co-star Joey King, 23, who plays hired killer Prince.
He said: “She’s a powerhouse. She was just 21 when we were filming. Listen, I consider us pretty sharp but she’s the sharpest of us all.”

Tyler West confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Tyler West is the seventh celebrity confirmed to be taking part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 26-year-old star is best known as a DJ for Kiss FM but is “gassed” to be joining the lineup for the 20th series of the BBC ballroom competition when it returns to screens in September.
After initially revealing the news on ‘KISS Breakfast with Jordan and Perri’, he said: “I am SO gassed to be joining the Strictly family! As I started writing this I already got cramp. It’s going to be one crazy incredible journey which will no doubt be SO far outside my comfort zone. It’s a show that means so much to me and my family and I can’t wait to seriously shake a leg on that shiny dance floor… with a side of sequins.”
So far, ‘Coronation Street’ stars Will Mellor and Kym Marsh as well as journalist Kaye Adams, DJ Richie Anderson and comic Jayde Adams have signed up for the next series of the show, while former England footballer Tony Adams is also rumoured to be taking part.
The announcement comes just days after ‘Loose Women’ star Kaye, 59, admitted that she was “terrified” to have signed up for the series but decided to take part after “embracing” her age before she hits the milestone birthday.
She said: “It’s me! I’m absolutely terrified because I can’t dance. I could think of a million reasons not to do this. But I thought I might be sitting in September thinking I’m 59 – I’ve always lied about my age but I’ve decided to embrace it and so I’m 60 at the end of this year and I thought ‘Why not?’ I can’t make much of a fool of myself!”
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is set to return to BBC One on September 10.

Gok Wan ‘doesn’t see’ himself as famous

OHMYGOSSIP — Gok Wan doesn’t see himself as being famous.
The 47-year-old presenter started his career as a fashion stylist and eventually appeared on TV screens in 2006 fronting Channel 4 hit ‘How to Look Good Naked’ but explained that he has “suddenly” found comfort since being “thrust” into the spotlight.
He said: “I’ve never been more confident with who I am as a person. I’m going to be 50 in two years’ time so I’m pleased I’ve suddenly found this space of comfort. It feels hugely liberating. [Since starting out on TV], I’m less chaotic and concerned about what people think of me. When you’re suddenly thrust into the limelight, everyone wants to know you and find out who you are. I made a deal with myself that I was just going to be honest about the stuff I was happy to talk about and I think that’s allowed me to have a really nice relationship with the public. Because I don’t see myself as famous. I’m just me, doing my job on a camera a lot of the time.”
Meanwhile, the openly gay ‘This Morning’ star – who has previously opened up about suffering from anorexia in his 20s and received an MBE for services to fashion and social awareness – added that he “gets as much out of” speaking out about issues that have affected him as he does hosting glitzy showbiz events.
He told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “I guess because I’ve spoken openly about things like eating disorders, obesity, sexuality – the big stuff I’ve been through in my life. When I was growing up, I didn’t have many people to look up to for references, so I really enjoy having that role. I recently did an LGBTQ+ talk in a school and I got as much out of that as I did hosting the ‘Sex And The City’ worldwide premiere at Leicester Square.[I’m most proud of] still being here. That’s the honest truth, and people thinking I’ve still got something to give. Getting the MBE was such a massive honour, as one is is winning the RTS [Royal Television Society) awards.

New James Bond ‘has to be aged under 40 and taller than 5ft 10’

OHMYGOSSIP — The new James Bond reportedly must be aged under 40 and taller than 5ft 10 inches.
It means the current front-runners to step into Daniel Craig’s shoes as the spy will be too old, with others too short.
A source told the Daily Star on Monday (08,08.22) Eon Productions want a “fresh faced” star given Craig filmed his farewell ‘No Time To Die’ aged 51.
They added bringing in an actor in their “late 30s” will allow him to stay in the role for at least a decade or potentially three films.
The source claims filming on the next movie may start in winter 2023, but Craig’s successor will not be be unveiled until next autumn at the earliest.
The Eon Productions under 40s casting “rule” means bookies’ and fan favourites such as Idris Elba, 49, Henry Cavill, 39, and Tom Hardy, 44, will be ruled out.
Regé-Jean Page, 34, Richard Madden, 36, and James Norton, 37, are now in pole position.
The alleged 5ft 10 height requirement also rules out Taron Egerton, John Boyega and Kit Harington.
Regé-Jean Page is well-known for his roles in the recent action thriller ‘The Grаy Mаn’ and the Regency drama ‘Bridgerton’.
He remarked to The Mirror аbout being rumoured as the next Bond: “Ah, the B–word. I believe that if you do anything noteworthy аs а British person that= other people notice, then people will start talking аbout it.
“I’m flattered to be included in the group of Brits that people have noticed, and that’s fairly normаl.”
Another front-runner, Richаrd Madden, is said to have previously given the Bond part an audition.
The 39-yeаr-old attended а ‘Casino Royale’ try-out, according to the Daily Express.

Gillian Anderson: ‘I might take a break and play some psychopaths’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gillian Anderson wants her next role to be a psychopath.
The 53-year-old actress says she wants to diversify after playing mainly trailblazing and independent women, including Dana Scully in ‘The X Files’, Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Crown’ and Jean Milburn in ‘Sex Education’.
She told the Daily Mirror: “Women interest me. I enjoy it (playing real life women.) But the pressure and expectation is greater.
“I might take a break for a while and play some psychopaths.”
It comes after Gillian was touted for a role as a villain in ‘Doctor Who’ by the new Time Lord Ncuti Gatwa, who starred alongside Gillian in ‘Sex Education’ as Eric Effiong.
Gillian added her success is down to taking risks, saying: “I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in my lane, figuratively and literally.
“I remember being in a therapy session with my mum, working through some stuff.:
She added her mother told a therapist: “No one is ever telling Gillian what she could and couldn’t do. She’s going to do what she wants’.
“That was true then and now.”
Mum-of-three Gillian added: “If I’d listened to other people I wouldn’t have ended up in the UK, wouldn’t have ended up doing theatre, ‘The X-Files’… sometimes you can succeed if you don’t toe the party line.”
She recalled in podcast ‘The Envelope’: “It felt like something changed in 2016.
“In that year I was getting to play Blanche in ‘Streetcar’ and in ‘The Fall’.
“I remember thinking, ‘If I die this year, I’ll be happy’. I get to play these amazing extraordinary women for different reasons.
“One an absolute hot mess and the other supposedly under control. They were a real force for feminism.”
