Danny Miller and Elizabeth Estensen returning to Emmerdale for 50th anniversary

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Miller, Elizabeth Estensen, and Amy Walsh will return to ‘Emmerdale’ for the show’s 50th anniversary.
The trio, who played Aaron Dingle, Diane Sugden, and Tracy Metcalfe, will be back on the ITV soap “temporarily” to mark the huge milestone.
‘Emmerdale’ producer Kate Brooks said: “We have the return of some very familiar faces to the Dales.
“Diane, Aaron and Tracy will all be making a reappearance, albeit on a temporary basis.
“But they’ll come back and be at the heart of some really big stories that’ll impact their lives, and not just their lives but the lives of the characters they leave behind. It’s all really exciting and brilliant.”
‘Emmerdale’ producer Jane Hudson revealed Danny will be involved in a “huge story” upon his return.
She said: “Aaron’s back and how is he going to respond when he finds out that his mum is cheating on Paddy, who he sees as a father?
“Is he going to discover that Sandra is not all about Liv? There’s a huge story happening over there.”
Speaking about Amy’s return, Jane said: “Tracy is back with a bit of news of her own – and how’s Nate going to respond to that?”
The show’s bosses have remained quiet about Elizabeth’s return storyline.
In September, the actress announced she was quitting her role as Diane after 22 years and had decided to retire from acting altogether.
She said in a statement: “For the past 22 years I have loved playing Diane Sugden. She’s kind, reliable, and fiercely loyal. However, I now feel the time has come to say goodbye.
“‘Emmerdale’ will always remain special to me. I’ve been treated with respect and kindness and I’ve had the very best friends and colleagues, both past and present. I’ll miss everyone dearly.”

Jason Blum wants to end Paranormal Activity after ‘terrible’ Next of Kin

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Blum wants to end the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise after last year’s “terrible” movie.
The Blumhouse CEO has weighed in on the big screen horror series – which continued with 2021’s ‘Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin’ – and while there are plans for a new instalment in 2023, the producer is keen to move on after that release.
As reported by Variety, he said at Locarno Film Festival: “It has been enough already. That last ‘Paranormal Activity’ movie was terrible.
“With ‘Halloween,’ we only had the rights to three movies, so we said: ‘Halloween Ends’!
“It ends for Blumhouse, at least. With other things, you just have this feeling it’s time to put them to bed.
“It would come back if some director I love, like Scott Derrickson, said: ‘I have a great idea for a ‘Paranormal’ Activity movie’. But it’s not something I want to do [at the moment].”
There is currently no set release date for ‘Paranormal Activity: The Other Side’ – set to be the eighth movie in the franchise – but Blum is ready to put the series on hiatus.
The first film launched in 2007 and became a huge hit, revitalised the found footage genre pioneered by the likes of ‘The Blair Witch Project’.
Three annual sequels followed, with the franchise then continuing with ‘Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’ in 2014, a 3D release – ‘Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’ – the following year, and ‘Next of Kin’ which came to Paramount+ last year.
Meanwhile, Blum is currently focused on other projects including the upcoming ‘Exorcist’ trilogy, which will have filmmaker David Gordon Green at the helm.
Teasing the remake of the horror classic, he added: “We are getting ready to make it. Hopefully, we will do the same thing with ‘The Exorcist’ that we did with ‘Halloween’ – make it in a way that’s fresh and worth revisiting. And feels different enough so that people are happy we did it.”

Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Rhys Meyers join Clean Up Crew

OHMYGOSSIP — Antonio Banderas, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Melissa Leo have joined the cast of ‘Clean Up Crew’.
Production recently wrapped in Ireland on the Yale Entertainment action-crime thriller, which is directed by Jon Keeyes.
The motion picture will be introduced at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
Yale’s Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman said: “We’re excited to work with this legendary all-star cast on what will be an edge-of-your seat, action-packed film.
“We’re certain that Jon Keeyes will deliver a uniquely thrilling cinematic experience.”
The movie will tell the story of a crime scene clean-up crew who find a briefcase full of money, which sees them go up against Banderas’ mobster boss character.
One of Banderas’ most notable roles was as the swashbuckling sword-fighter in the 1998 movie ‘The Mask of Zorro’ and the sequel ‘The Legend of Zorro’, and the actor recently revealed Quentin Tarantino approached him about making a ‘Zorro’ and ‘Django Unchained’ crossover movie.
Speaking in June, he said: “He talked to me, I think on the Oscar night (in 2020) when I was nominated for ‘Pain and Glory’. We saw each other at one of those parties.
“He just came up to me and I was like, ‘In your hands? Yeah, man!’ Because Quentin just had that nature to do those types of movies and give them quality. Even if they are based on those types of B-movies of the 60s and 70s, he can take that material and do something really interesting.
“We’ve never worked together, but it would be great because of him, because of Jamie Foxx and because of (playing) Zorro again when he’s a little bit older. It would be fantastic and funny and crazy.”
But Banderas is uncertain about portraying Zorro in another film as his age means he would have to play the role differently.
He said: “I don’t know. If I do Zorro again, I would actually be the character played by Anthony Hopkins in the first one. I’m gonna turn 62 this summer, so I don’t know if I can play that character in the same way I used to.”

Ellie Taylor confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Taylor is the ninth celebrity contestant confirmed for this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 38-year-old comedian will swap the stage for the dance floor later this year to take part in the BBC Latin and ballroom show, but the star insists she has the dancing ability of a “newly born giraffe”.
Former Heart FM presenter Ellie said: “Well, cover me in fake tan and roll me in sequins! I’m absolutely over the moon to be a part of ‘Strictly’ 2022!
“I’ve watched the show for years so to be able to take to the dance floor is a dream come true, for both me and mum who is a ‘Strictly’ super fan!
“At the moment I’m focusing on the excitement and glitter and choosing to ignore the fact that I have the dancing ability of a newly born giraffe. Bring it on!”
The ‘Ted Lasso’ star – who portrays Flo “Sassy” Collins in the Apple TV+ show – has also appeared in the likes of ‘Plebs’, as well as panel shows ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’, ‘Fake Reaction’, and ‘Mock the Week’, and she co-hosts ‘Cheat’ alongside Danny Dyer, which is coming soon to Netflix.
Ellie is the latest celebrity contestant confirmed for ‘Strictly’ after it was announced Matt Goss, Will Mellor, Kym Marsh, Richie Anderson, Kay Adams, Jayde Adams, Ellie Simmonds and Tyler West will take to the dancefloor.
Bros star Matt admitted earlier this week that he is “optimistic” about his dancing ability, because he is “very supple”.
He said: “I’m extremely nervous and excited, but I’m optimistic because I’m very supple from the knees down.”
Kaye, 59, recently admitted she was “terrified” to have signed up for the series.
She said: “I’m absolutely terrified because I can’t dance. I could think of a million reasons not to do this.
“But I thought I might be sitting in September thinking I’m 59 – I’ve always lied about my age but I’ve decided to embrace it and so I’m 60 at the end of this year and I thought ‘Why not?’ I can’t make much of a fool of myself!”

Tom Cruise planning musical, new action movie and Tropic Thunder spin-off

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise is reportedly working on a musical, a new action film and a ‘Tropic Thunder’ spin-off.
The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star is said to be teaming up with the blockbuster sequel’s producer Christopher McQuarrie – with whom he’s collaboration with a lot in the past – on a diverse trio of upcoming projects.
As reported by Deadline, Cruise and McQuarrie are looking at plans for an original song and dance musical planned as a vehicle for the 60-year-old actor, along with a new action film with the potential to develop into a franchise.
Another idea the duo are debating revolves around Grossman, which is the studio executive Cruise cameoed as in ‘Tropic Thunder’.
According to the report, it’s not clear if the character will get his own standalone film, or if he could instead appear in either of the other projects.
The pair are collaborating on the scripts together, while there are other films in the pipeline.
The pair have been busy working on ‘Mission: Impossible 8’, and they are also teaming up with director Doug Liman on an untitled film set to shoot in outer space with NASA and SpaceX getting involved.
Universal has signed on as the studio for the project.
Cruise and McQuarrie – who transformed Ethan Hunt’s arc for 2011’s ‘Mission: Impossible = Ghost Protocol’ – have worked well together for well over a decade, and the Hollywood star has spoken fondly of the filmmaker in the past.
He previously said: “McQ understood, most definitely, not only that franchise but just a basis of storytelling, and a wide range of storytelling.
“He understands that with structure and tension, with suspense in a structure, you can have comedy, you can have drama, and so that’s where we went…
“I’ve loved my working with McQ – he and I met on ‘Valkyrie’ – and it’s just been an exceptional experience working with him.”

Live action PAC MAN movie in development

OHMYGOSSIP — A live action ‘PAC-MAN’ movie is in development.
The iconic arcade game – which is set in mazes where the titular character goes round eating pellets while avoiding the pursuit of colourful ghosts – is coming to the big screen as the latest feature film video game adaptation.
Bandai Namco Entertainment – the studio behind ‘PAC-MAN’ is teaming up with Justin Baldoni and Steve Sarowitz’s production company Wayfarer Studios on the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be based on an original idea from Lightbeam Entertainment’s Chuck Williams (‘Sonic The Hedgehog’).
Details are scarce at this stage, with no hint of a story or casting yet, while a planned release date is also unclear.
The movie comes after the huge success of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ back in 2020, as well as its sequel earlier this year, and director Jeff Fowler admitted work is yet to really begin on the third movie ‘Shadow the Hedgehog’.
Earlier this year, he said: “Absolutely nothing [is planned]. I’m afraid that’s as far as we’ve gotten, is that scene. We were just focused, obviously, on getting movie two done, and looking great. And then, fingers crossed, the rest will come together.”
However, Fowler did go on to explain that the appeal of the movie series – which was released almost 30 years after Sega first launched their flagship ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ series back in 1991 lies in the fact that the title character is such a “likeable” guy.
He said: “He’s just such a likeable little guy. He’s so optimistic and fun and energetic, but he’s also very loyal to his friends. He believes in family. He’s got a huge heart.
“I mean, there’s so many likable traits that are only magnified by what Ben [Schwartz] brings to the character and his performance. There’s so much positivity.
“He’s just brimming with joy, and I feel like that makes for such a great character.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Anderson is said to have signed up for ‘Celebs Go Dating’.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Laura is the latest star to sign up for ‘Celebs Go Dating’ – and she’s only been single for a matter of hours. She is a great addition to the line-up and will be really entertaining on screen.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady is stepping down from his BBC Radio 2 show.
The 67-year-old star has hosted ‘Paul O’Grady on the Wireless’ since 2009 and covers a variety of themes for listeners but has decided that even though he has “loved” hosting the Sunday teatime show, it is now the “right time” to say goodbye.
He said: “I’ve loved doing my Sunday afternoon show for the last 14 years and I’m going to miss my listeners as well as the fun I’ve had with my producer Malcolm Prince, but I feel that now is the right time to go.”
The former TV host – who shot to fame in the 1990s as drag queen Lily Savage before going onto TV chat show success with ‘The Paul O’Grady Show’ in the early 2000s – famously hosted his radio show live on Christmas Day after becoming known as ‘The Grinch’ and will air his final show on Sunday 14 August as he comes to the end of his current 13-week block of shows.

The final show will celebrate regular features such as a Lost TV Theme, the Thank You Letter of the Week, and an unexpected playlist, as well as the regular cocktail recipe, and producer Malcolm will choose another unsuitable song for a wedding anniversary.
Following his departure from the station, comedian Rob Beckett will return to the slot for his next run of 13 weeks, with further plans for the slot to be announced at a later date.

Laura Carmichael couldn’t believe she had a ‘proper part’ in Downton Abbey

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Carmichael couldn’t believe she had a “proper part” in ‘Downton Abbey’ when she was first cast in the show.
The 36-year-old actress played Lady Edith Grantham on the hit ITV period drama from its inception in 2010 and reprised the role across its two spin-off films, but she was “star struck” to have been cast alongside industry stalwarts such as Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville.
She said: “It’s been such a gift being in ‘Downton’. It’s opened so many doors. If another period drama came across my desk … if I loved the script, I wouldn’t be too nervous of entering that world. But at the moment I’m drawn to things that feel different.
“When the ‘Downton’ audition came up, I couldn’t have been more surprised that it was for a proper part – I thought I’d have a line or two. At the time, I didn’t know what it would mean to join a cast like that. Thank God I didn’t, or I’d have thrown up immediately! It was a life-changing moment. I was starstruck by the cast and constantly surrounded by brilliant actors. It was such a gift.'”
Laura – who has been dating ‘Downton Abbey’ co-star Michael C. Fox since 2014 and has 17-month-old son Luca with him – also plays the role of socially-isolated supermarket worker Agatha opposite Jessica De Gouw, as successful blogger Meghan, in ‘The Secrets She Keeps’.
The star admitted she enjoys “trying on different hats” as an actress.
She told RadoTimes.com: “I like trying on different hats. The series works around themes that are universal. Women presenting as perfect, then having their worlds crashing down.”

Adrian Dunbar hints a new Line of Duty may focus on ‘something from past episodes’

OHMYGOSSIP — Adrian Dunbar thinks a new ‘Line of Duty’ series might focus on “something from past episodes”.
The 64-year-old actor is known for having played Superintendent Ted Hastings in the hit police drama across six series, and he teased that the 2021 finale – which drew in almost 17 million viewers – may “not be the last” audiences see of the BBC show, and that there has been “talk” of a spin-off film or some feature-length specials.
He said: “My thinking is that, no, it’s not the last you might see of us. I know that there are people who are talking and some plans, but I don’t know exactly what would happen. I don’t know what shape it might take. There was talk of a film, there was talk about maybe two 90 minutes, there was talk about three one hours, I don’t know.”
However, the ‘Hear My Song’ actor – who has been married to Anna Nygh since 1986 and has 35-year-old daughter Madeleine with her – went on to explain he has “no idea” what the storyline would be for a potential new series, but he doesn’t envisage it being “something new”.
He told RadioTimes.com: “I have no idea [what it would be.] I’m sure it won’t be something new. It would have to be something maybe from past episodes, that kind of rears its ugly head again. So there is all kinds of talk going on, and we’re waiting to see if somebody gives us a green light and says yeah, it’s actually going to happen.”

Samantha Womack fighting breast cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Samantha Womack is battling breast cancer.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star took to Twitter to pay tribute to Olivia Newton-John – who fought the disease for 30 years – following her death on Monday (08.08.22) aged 73, and during her heartfelt post Samantha revealed she is starting her own “battle with [the] disease” and has been left feeling “deeply moved” following the ‘Grease’ star’s passing.
Sam shared a picture of herself, Olivia and Olivia’s daughter Chloe, 36, after they went to see the ‘Mount Pleasant’ actress when she was playing Sandy – Olivia’s character’ in the 1978 movie – in the West End.
She captioned the image: “This was the most magical of evenings. Olivia and Chloe had come to see Grease in London and we had dinner together afterwards. I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood. I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved. #OliviaNewtonJohn (sic)”
The star – who played Ronnie Mitchell in ‘EastEnders’ from 2007 to 2017 – is “proud” that she is able to speak to her ex-husband Mark Womack, who she split from in 2020, “two or three times a day”.
She said: “Mark and I raised a family really well, so we agreed that we didn’t mind separating in terms of a traditional marriage, but actually I would really have suffered if we hadn’t maintained a friendship, because that was part of my life for 20 years.
“We speak to each other two or three times a day, Mark will say, ‘Can I pop round next week – can you have the two Chihuahuas?’ and I’ll say, ‘Yeah, but can you have the cat next week?’ ”
Samantha is currently dating former ‘Coronation Street’ actor Oliver Farnworth, 39, and the pair live together in Spain, after relocating to Valencia at the start of the year.
She says Oliver gets on with Mark and has a great relationship with their two kids.
Sam added: “We’re all actors and the kids are in full-time education, it’s a bit manic, so actually we really do need each other.
“Mark and Ollie are really friendly and the kids love having all of us; we’re a blended family. I’ve been parenting Mark’s son Michael since the age of four, so he comes down sometimes with his partner.
“We’ve worked hard at remaining friends and I’m proud of it. I Know for some people that’s not possible when the breakup is just too painful, but we were able to do it and I’m really grateful.”

Highlander remake ‘closer than ever’ as Chad Stahelski gives Henry Cavill update

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Highlander’ remake is “closer than ever”.
The 1986 classic – which starred Christopher Lambert as the 16th-century immortal warrior Connor MacLeod – is set for a reboot from Lionsgate with Henry Cavill attached when it was announced last year, and now ‘John Wick’ director Chad Stahelski has given a promising update on the pre-production process.
He told Collider: “We’re in the process of tweaking right now. I think we know what we want. More importantly than anything, we know what we want to make.
“It’s in the creatives. We know what we’re trying to make.
“It’s just a matter of getting it to the point where we feel, ‘Okay, this is it. Let’s go.’ But we’re closer than we’ve ever been, so that’s good.”
When it comes to Cavill, the in-demand star is still involved in talks and Stahelski confirmed he is “one of my big choices” for the movie.
He added: “It’s not just about muscles and brooding. I think he’s got an incredible range and I think he’d bring something very special. And his enthusiasm has been amazing in it.”
The original flick starred Sir Sean Connery, Lambert and Clancy Brown as immortal beings who hunt down one another to collect more power.
The movie, notable for its ‘There can only be one’ catchphrase and Queen soundtrack, spawned four sequels and three spin-off TV series.
It is unclear if Henry will be playing a brand new character or one from a previous project but Chad believes the ‘Superman’ star has both the “physicality and empathy” to lead the movie.
He recently said: “Henry obviously has the physicality, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot if you can’t carry the empathy of a character that’s lived 500 years, and I needed somebody who could do both.”
Stahelski continued: “The character’s arc spans hundreds of years and he becomes many different personalities, all of which extend the timeline of his emotional growth.
“Then during our first meeting, my suspicions were confirmed: Henry was immediately riffing on the idea of the burden of immortality and you could see in his eyes that he can transform himself from being a young, vibrant soul to an old, wise soul. He had this combination I was fascinated by.”

Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda starts filming directorial debut Lisa Frankenstein

OHMYGOSSIP — Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda Williams has started filming her directorial debut.
The 32-year-old filmmaker – whose father tragically died aged 63 in August 2014 – is working on her first movie ‘Lisa Frankenstein’, which stars Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.
Now, Newton has revealed the team are on set and started shooting on Monday (08.08.22) as she shared a couple of behind the scenes photos on Instagram.
One snap shows the film slate while another shows a chair, both with the movie’s logo in bright neon pink.
She simply captioned the post: “Day 1 #LisaFrankenstein (sic)”
Zelda and Sprouse both shared the post on their own Instagram Stories.
Back in June, Focus Features officially announced the zom-com, which has been written by ‘Juno’ and ‘Jennifer’s Body’ scribe Diablo Cody.
The film, set in 1989, follows an unpopular high school student who accidentally reanimates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm, and then begins to rebuild him into her dream man using a broken tanning bed in her garage.
Zelda responded to the news on Twitter at the time, and wrote: “Zomb-com incoming! I repeat, zomb-com incoming!
“I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that!
“But it’s also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I’ve ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!”
She admitted this “wasn’t meant to be” her first feature film, with three other projects being scrapped before this one got picked up.
She continued: “Also, for anyone coming here to be like ‘THIS is your first feature?!’, it wasn’t meant to be.
“I had three films fall apart before this, because movies often do. It was discouraging, to say the least. But the fact this one survived and THRIVED to be my first? A f****** gift”.
Meanwhile, she noted the movie would be heavily influenced by 1980s cinema, right down to the actors playing high school students being noticably older than their characters.
She added: “Also, because it’s already come up: this movie is a stylized 80s [and] involves a zombie. It is NOT reality and doesn’t pretend to be.
“Stylistically, the actors are NOT teens but are playing teens (and an undead guy) because that was how many of my fave 80s movies were. Zee End. (sic)”

Love Island’s Maura Higgins was sexually assaulted while asleep in a taxi

OHMYGOSSIP — Maura Higgins was sexually assaulted while she was asleep in a taxi.
The 31-year-old reality star – who finished in fourth place on the fifth series of ‘Love Island’ back in 2019 – held a Q and A on Instagram on Monday (08.08.22) when she was asked about her “worst experience” with a man, and claimed that while she “isn’t ready” to talk about that particular incident, alleged that a man in her native Ireland had once “put his hand up her skirt” after a night out with friends.
She said: “So would you believe I actually have many? Well, a few. The worst one I’ve never ever ever opened up about and don’t think even think I’m ready yet. It was one of the scariest things that’s ever happened to me. I had an incident with a taxi driver a long time ago in Ireland. Silly me, I fell asleep. My friends were dropped off before me and I was dropped off alone because I lived alone at the time. I woke up and his hand was right up my skirt.”
The former ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant went on to explain that she “sobered up” almost immediately and memorised the taxi’s number but did not reveal if she took any further actions.
She added: “Honestly, I sobered up so quickly. I memorised his taxi number so quick and still remembered it the next day.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Maura – who is currently single but was previously in a relationship with previously in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Giovanni Pernice – revealed to her followers that she has been left wondering whether she should take a break from the contraceptive pill after using the birth control method for several years and asked her 3.5 million followers for advice.
She said: “I’ve been on the same birth control, so I’ve been on the pill for years. And I was like ‘Surely I need to go on a break. That cannot be good for my body’ but then I also think ‘Do I really want irregular periods?’ It’s a hard one because obviously, you shouldn’t stay on birth control for such a long time. If any of you have been on birth control for years and years, I’d actually like to know about the experiences you have went through.
“But then I’m also like ‘Well, it’s not like I’m s****** anyone so I don’t know why I f****** bother!”

Katherine Ryan loved working with Shirley Ballas on All That Glitters

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan loved getting to work with Shirley Ballas on ‘All That Glitters’.
The 39-year-old comedienne is returning to screens for the second series of the BBC Two competition – which sees her search for the next big name in jewellery design at a specially-built workshop in Birmingham – and she admits it was “amazing” to have ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ legend Shirley, 61, as a celebrity guest client for a “very tense” challenge.
She said: “It was amazing to have Shirley Ballas as a celebrity guest client. It was a very tense challenge for the jewellers who were all desperate to have their piece worn on an episode of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
“There are some real gut-wrenching moments this series too where pieces break at the last minute or just that the jewellers just don’t finish in time. You spend so much time with them you want everyone to do well and when it goes wrong it’s awful. But it does make great TV.”
The former ‘Campus’ star – who also presented the first series of ‘All That Glitters’ alongside Solange Azagury-Partridge and Shaun Leane – went on to explain that the success of the competition is down to the jewellers themselves, and noted that series one winner Hugo Johnson has gone on to “amazing things” since his victory.
She added: “Jewellery making is so visual and satisfying to watch, but it’s the jewellers themselves that make the show unmissable. They’re all so warm and different, and they all have uniquely compelling personalities and stories that they bring into their craft. Hugo, our winner from series one, has gone on to do amazing things and launched the most beautiful collections, I think he has been nominated for an award too. That’s pretty amazing. It’s a cliché but proves that this show really can change our jeweller’s lives.”
‘All That Glitters’ is set to return to BBC Two for a second series later this year.
