Marcus Nispel: I always stood by the decision to work with Jason Momoa

OHMYGOSSIP — Marcus Nispel says he “always stood by the decision” to work with Jason Momoa.
The 59-year-old director cast the former ‘Baywatch’ star 43, in the title role of ‘Conan the Barbarian’ back in 2011 and spoke out after Jason said the fantasy film “sucked.”
Marcus said: ” As a filmmaker in this system you are a dog on many leashes. Trying to get Conan done under those circumstances was the worst experience that I had and I was as unhappy with the result.
“I am happy though that none of this got in the way of Jason’s career path…I always stood by the decision to make Conan with him.”
The acclaimed moviemaker – who is also known for his 2003 remake of The ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ – went on to explain that it was a “pleasure” to give the ‘Aquaman’ actor his first leading role and joked that he paved the way for him to star in ‘Game of Thrones.’
He told PEOPLE: “My friend John Milius once said: ‘There is always a sense of defeat in every victory.’ In regards to having had the pleasure and privilege of having given Jason his first leading part, I say: ‘There can also be a sense of victory in a defeat.”
Marcus’s comments come just days after Jason described the movie – which was a remake of the 1982 hit starring Arnold Schwarzenegger – as having been “turned into a big pile of s***.”
He said: “I’ve been a part of a lot of things that really sucked, and movies where it’s out of your hands. ‘Conan’ was one of them. It’s one of the best experiences I had and it was taken over and turned into a big pile of s***.”

Jack Black used to think he was a bad actor

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Black used to think he was a bad actor.
The 52-year-old movie star has enjoyed a decades-long career in Hollywood starring in hits such as ‘School of Rock’ and ‘Nacho Libre’ but admitted when he first started out he thought he was “horrible” until he saw the final cut in cinemas.
He said: “I remember the first movie I ever did. I saw a rough cut, and I was like, “Oh, my god, I’m a bad actor. I’m horrible.” And then, the editor just did some magic, and by the end, when it was released in theatres, I was like, “Oh, my god, I’m fantastic. I’m fantastic at acting!'”
The ‘Kung Fu Panda’ star went on to explain that it was all “magic” done in post-production and claimed that editors don’t get the credit they deserve.
He told Collider: “The editor trims away all the fat, which is a crucial job. People don’t celebrate the editor!”
Meanwhile, Jack admitted that even though it would be “cool” to step behind the camera and become a director, he prefers to be the one “putting on a show.”
He said: “At the end of the day, I like putting on a show. I don’t know that I’d like to be a director. It would be cool to be a director, just because of the respect that you get. It would be cool to be Paul Thomas Anderson or Taika Waititi, where people look up to you and respect you. But I don’t know if I really want the job.”

Bella Ramsey: Meeting Joe Alwyn on set was awkward

OHMYGOSSIP — Bella Ramsey says meeting Joe Alwyn on the set of ‘Catherine, Called Birdy’ was “awkward.”
The 18-year-old actress takes on the title role of the upcoming medieval comedy film while ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ star Joe, 31, – who has been dating pop megastar Taylor Swift since 2016 – plays her Uncle George and explained that being “shy” around each other actually set them up well for filming and she felt “safe” with him on set.
She said: “We’re both quite shy. When we met each other, we were a bit awkward. I think that actually set us up really well. Birdy and Uncle George just get each other in a way that me and Joe do. He’s just so gentle and sincere. I felt very safe with him.”
Meanwhile, Bella – who is known for having played Lyanna Mormont in ‘Game of Thrones’ between 2016 and 2019 and also starred in the title role of Mildred Hubble in CBBC show ‘The Worst Witch’ from 2017 until 2019 – is being directed by former ‘Girls’ star Lena Dunham, 36, admitted that she never had anyone in mind for the role other than Joe.
In the joint interview, Lena told Vanity Fair: “He’s the only person I asked to do the part. Uncle George is the hunk in Birdy’s life who she sees in this idealised way. He’s never afraid to go to a strange or different place with the work.”
‘Catherine, Called Birdy’ is based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Karen Cushman and tells the story of a young woman whose father is financially destitute and attempts to marry her off to a wealthy suitor but she defies his plans.
‘Catherine, Called Birdy’ – which also stars Andrew Scott and Billie Piper – is set for a limited release in cinemas on September 23 but will be available to stream on Prime Video from October 7.

Liani Kotcher wants Leigh Janiak to direct adaptation of Ski Weekend

OHMYGOSSIP — Liani Kotcher wants Leigh Janiak to direct the adaptation of ‘Ski Weekend’.
The 42-year-old author penned the young adult survival thriller under the pseudonym of Rektok Ross and now that it is being turned into a movie, she would “love” someone like Ligh Janiak to direct because she can “appreciate” the horror genre because of her work on the ‘Fear Street’ trilogy.
She said: “I would love to have someone on board who really appreciates late 80s, 90s horror thrillers. Someone like Leigh Janiak who just did the ‘Fear Street’ trilogy. I think she’s incredible. I do love her. I know they’re just doing TV, but The Duffer Brothers. Someone who you can tell has the heart and the passion because I feel like it’s not horror, but it’s a lot of that love that went into those late 90s movies is kind of who I envision. There’s a lot of Easter eggs, there’s the fun, having the fun together as they’re driving up. I want someone who can shoot that and can get that feeling on the screen.”
The entertainment journalist added that finding a director for the movie – which will tell the six teenagers and a dog on an ill-fated ski trip – is the “hardest thing” but the goal is to find someone to has shot a horror movie well in the past.
She told Collider: “[Finding a director] next step, and that’s something we’ve begun to talk about. I think it’s one of the hardest things, but also, the most satisfying when done right is to shoot a contained movie. And I think obviously looking into the past, we’d love to have someone that has shot a contained movie and done it well. So for me, obviously my outlook is to start there and then branch out from there.”

Stephen King’s The Regulators is being turned into a movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen King’s novel ‘The Regulators’ is being turned into a movie.
The 74-year-old author published the novel – which tells the story of the supernatural events that unfold in an Ohio town after a paperboy is shot by a mysterious stranger – under the pseudonym Richard Bachman back in 1996 and it is now heading to the big screen.
Stephen said: “I’m delighted that the excitement of ‘The Regulators’ is coming to the screen. This is going to be good.”
The acclaimed writer has sold the rights to the novel to management agency Bohemia Group and CEO Susan Ferris explained that she could not be “more thrilled” to be working on the adaptation.
She told Deadline: “We could not be more thrilled than to be working with the prolific Stephen King and his team on this project. The novel’s themes and characters resonate so powerfully, and we are looking forward to making an incredible film.”
George Cowan is said to be writing the script producer Justin Ross added that getting to work with Stephen is the “fulfillment” of a long-time wish and he hopes to do the author “proud” when the bestseller hits the silver screen.
He said: “Working with Stephen King is a long-time wish fulfilled. Susan and George and I look forward to doing the novel and its author proud.”
Stephen has had several of his 64 novels adapted into movies over the years, including acclaimed fantasy drama ‘The Green Mile’ – which starred Tom Hanks as a death row prison guard and Michael Clarke as a supernatural inmate – as well as classic 1980 horror ‘The Shining.’
However, Stephen previously admitted that his favourite would probably be ‘Stand By Me’ because he was “moved to tears” by the “semi-autobiographical” movie when it was released in 1986.
The coming-of-age drama – which starred Wil Wheaton, Jerry O’Connell, Corey Feldman and the late River Phoenix as a group of teenagers in the 1950s who go off in search of a corpse – was based on his novella ‘The Body’ and Stephen joked that the premise “scared the s***” out of director Rob Reiner .
He said: “[My favourite is] probably ‘Stand by Me’. I thought it was true to the book, and because it had the emotional gradient of the story. It was moving. I think I scared the s*** out of Rob Reiner. When the movie was over, I hugged him because I was moved to tears, because it was so autobiographical. But ‘Stand by Me’, ‘Shawshank Redemption’, ‘Green Mile’ are all really great ones. ‘Misery ‘is a great film. ‘Delores Claiborne’ is a really, really good film. ‘Cujo’ is terrific.

Laura Whitmore to make West End debut in major thriller

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore will make her West End debut in ‘2.22 – A Ghost Story’.
The ‘Love Island’ host will take on the role of Jenny and rediscover her “love” for theatre as she joins the cast of the extended West End run of Danny Robins’ thriller at London’s Criterion Theatre.
In a statement, she said: “I’m so excited to be making my West End debut playing Jenny in the next production of ‘2:22’.
“Theatre has always been my first love and I can’t wait to get back on stage.
“I am a huge fan of the previous productions and delighted to be getting stuck in with rehearsals and working alongside such a hugely talented cast and team.”
She will be joined in the new cast by Tamsin Carroll (Lauren), Felix Scott (Sam) and Matt Willis (Ben).
The production first launched at the Noel Coward Theatre last summer before starting a 10-week run at the Gielgud Theatre on December 4 2021, followed by its initial stint at the Criterion Theatre.
Director Matthew Dunster said: “This is our 4th West End cast. We have already done over 100 performances at the Criterion and over a year in the West End in total.
“These are the shows you dream of being involved in. To reach, entertain and frighten as many people as we have feels very special.
“The show constantly evolves; each brilliant cast teaches us new things about Danny’s play and surprises our audiences, many of whom come again and again to experience the new life of the play.”
The show follows Jenny, who believes her new home is haunted while her husband Sam isn’t having any of it.
The synopsis adds: “They argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and her new partner Ben. Can the dead really walk again?
“Belief and scepticism clash, but something feels strange and frightening, and that something is getting closer, so they are going to stay up… until 2.22am… and then they will know.”
Writer Robins added: “I love the fact that, like Doctor Who, we keep regenerating and we have some truly thrilling performers here. How exciting is it to be looking forward to Laura Whitmore’s stage debut?
“And Matt Willis has more than proved himself to be a brilliant, explosive actor in recent years. Felix and Tamsin make up our foursome – both absolutely epic talents.”

Alan Carr sees ‘raw and personal’ tour as ‘therapy’ following marriage breakdown

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr sees his new tour as “therapy” following the end of his marriage.
The ‘Chatty Man’ host split from his husband Paul Drayton earlier this year after 13 years together, but he is preserving with his comedy gigs, despite admitting the material is “very personal and very raw”.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “I wrote the tour, and then it just didn’t make sense when we came out of lockdown because the marriage had broken down, so I was writing fresh on the go.
“It’s very personal and it’s very raw, but it’s going down really well.
“I need it [the tour]. And I get the impression that people just want a laugh and I do see it as therapy. I just get on with it, you know?”
In June, Alan told fans they will see “less” of him next year, admitting he wants to take some time out from work in 2023 to “sort myself out”.
He said: “During COVID, the relationship fell apart, and I was divorced when we came out the other end. So it’s probably my most personal [tour], but it sort of works and it’s quite raw and I go to places that I don’t normally talk about. It’s like therapy really.
“Life’s given me one of those years. Professionally, it has been amazing but personally, it’s been a bit rubbish.
“I’m a grafter, I love working, I love coming up here [to Scotland]. I know there are some comedians who don’t want to go above Watford, but not to come to Scotland is a no-brainer.
“Next year, you’ll probably see a bit less of Alan. I’m going to sort myself out.”
Alan also admitted he “might find love” when he’s taking some time out next year.
He added: “I think I’m ready for it and, who knows, I might find love. I might find a nice Scottish man. There was a man wading in the rivers [in Inverness] and I like a man in waders …”

Cliff Parisi reveals weight loss after filming Celebrity MasterChef

OHMYGOSSIP — Cliff Parisi lost half a stone in a week after filming ‘Celebrity MasterChef’.
The ‘Call The Midwife’ actor – who is a self-confessed “demon with a barbecue” – was delighted to sign up for the BBC cooking competition, but he’s now thinking about his health after appearing on the programme, despite his love for the likes of “curries, fish and chips, a fry-up”.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’ve been trying to eat more of a balanced diet.
“I do soaked oats twice a day. I try to avoid chocolate biscuits, and I’ve lost half a stone this week. I want to stay healthy.”
The 62-year-old star – who will appear on the programme alongside the likes of Mojo, Chris Eubank and All Saints singer Mel Blatt – was surprised by the way the culinary show has affected him.
He explained: “It evokes emotions, about your childhood, like cakes that grandad used to cook. And when they like what you cook it really wells you up, it’s like they’re acknowledging a bit of you.
“[The judges] John [Torode] and Gregg [Wallace] become like mummy and daddy, you just want to please them all the time.
“It’s like presenting them with your newborn child, you really want them to say it’s pretty.”
Meanwhile, Cliff hailed the impact of his wife of 12 years Tara – the mother of his two youngest children – and the advice she gave him before he started filming the show.
He said: “She’s been brilliant, written out all my recipes and got me the ingredients so I can test them at home.
“And she’s given me lots of advice. Like, don’t be an idiot, keep pulling your shirt down so you look presentable, don’t swear.
“She gives me advice all the time, I don’t always listen to it but I should.”

Danica Taylor nearly quit Love Island after Billy Brown bust up

OHMYGOSSIP — Danica Taylor nearly quit ‘Love Island’ following a bust up with Billy Brown.
The 21-year-old dancer was left feeling “violated and disrespected” after he rejected her during a game of Snog, Marry, Pie and then told the lads what he and Danica had been up to after a steamy night together, but she has now revealed the producers helped her and convinced her to stay on the ITV2 show.
She said: “The producers helped me a lot and calmed me down. I went to the beach hut and I was streaming with tears. I was like, ‘I just want to go now. I can’t do this anymore. Get me out of here. I feel violated and disrespected.’
“And they said, ‘We completely get it, it’s so out of order of him.’
“They understood where I was coming from, but also said, ‘You’re so amazing, don’t let what he’s done or anyone else in here make you feel otherwise.’ ”
But Danica later calmed down and admitted it was Billy’s “loss”.
She added to OK!: “It was one of those things where I calmed down and realised it doesn’t define me as a woman, just because a couple of guys in there weren’t interested in that way. Again, it’s their loss.”
Danica later coupled up with footballer Jamie Allen, who she left the villa with after they were dumped from the show just days before the series finale.
Following her exit, she said: “I’m walking out of here with somebody who I genuinely think I’ve got quite a good connection with. I’m so proud of myself. It’s still early days for me and Jamie but we just clicked.
“I remember the first night he came in and we were just talking. I didn’t know anything about him, I didn’t know where he lived, his family, or his career but we’d spoken all night.”
Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Culculoglu went on to win the series and the show’s £50,000 prize.

Brett Goldstein did 400 pushups a day for Thor 4 role

OHMYGOSSIP — Brett Goldstein did “400 pushups a day” for his role in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’
The 42-year-old actor made a cameo appearance as Hercules in the latest instalment of the Marvel Comics movie franchise alongside leading actor Chris Hemsworth and was only given two weeks to bulk up.
He said: “When I spoke to [director] Taika Waititi, I said, ‘You know I’m basically like a skinny comedian?’ and I said to him ‘When is this filming?’ It was like in two weeks, and I was like, “I mean, I’ll do my best, but two weeks feels …” I said, “He doesn’t have to be as big as Thor, does he?’ And look, on the day, I mean, I’m doing 400 pushups that day. I was fit to explode. I did the best I could on that day, yeah.”
The ‘Ted Lasso’ star then joked that he will now be dramatically increasing the protein in his diet in order to keep up with his new regime.
He told The Playlist: “I’m going to eat 30 chickens a day from now on; it will be fine!”
Bret also explained that he had “no idea” that he would end up playing the role of the Roman God in the movie and initially thought the whole thing was a “wind up.”
He said: “, I didn’t know what it was for. I was told that some Marvel people would like to have a Zoom with you, and I met with them and it was just so surreal because…it was literally out of the blue one night and I was very busy and it was like, ‘Can you make time for a Zoom?” ‘Yes, sure.’ And they go on Zoom and they just told me what you see in the film, which is they sort of opened with, ‘So Russell Crowe is Zeus.’ And then they turn around and they reveal ‘It’s Hercules; it’s you.’ And I went, ‘What? Are you serious? Are you f*****with me? Is this a wind up?’ So yeah, it was as surprising to me as I think it has been to other people.”
‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is in cinemas now.

OHMYGOSSIP — Hamza Yassin has been confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The wildlife cameraman and presenter – who has appeared on the likes of BBC’s ‘Animal Park’ and ‘Countryfile’ – is the 13th celebrity to sign up for this year’s edition of the Beeb’s Latin and ballroom competition.
After the news was revealed on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘The Afternoon Show’, he said in a statement: “I am absolutely over the moon to be joining ‘Strictly’ 2022.
“Never in a million years did I think I’d be on such a cool show. I’ve been watching it for years and I can’t believe I’ll actually be there dancing live in front of the British public.”
Yassin – known to CBeebies viewers as Ranger Hamza on both ‘Let’s Go For A Walk’ and upcoming series ‘Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest’ – described his talents as “1970s disco vibes” but he’s ready to put in the work.
He added: “My dance skills are currently at the level of ‘1970s disco vibe’ but I’m ready to work hard and will be shaking it every time I get the chance – shake it ‘til you make it!”
As well as his BBC work, the Sudan-born star – who moved to the Scottish Hhighland when he was younger – recently fronted Channel 4’s ‘Scotland: My Life in the Wild’ and ‘Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness’.

She said: “I’m excited to learn new skills and I want to soak up every moment of this magical experience.
“It’s such an honour to be on the show after years of watching it with my father who loved it so much.
“Unfortunately, my dad is no longer with us but I know he will be watching over the ballroom in spirit.”

Anneka Rice considered smothering her dad out of ‘love’

OHMYGOSSIP — Anneka Rice “almost murdered” her dad out of “love”.
The former ‘Treasure Hunt’ star told how she contemplated smothering her father – who was diagnosed with dementia in 2005 – with a pillow while he was in hospital after breaking his hip because she was devastated by how “broken” he had been left by the degenerative condition.
Speaking on her ‘Anneka Has Issues’ show on Radio 4 Extra, she said: “He was dazed and confused and it broke my heart.
“I’d visit every day, a three-hour round trip, and I remember vividly looking at my dad, usually so dapper, and now so broken in that hospital bed.
“And I looked and I looked, deep into my soul, and I looked at the pillow and I took one of his pillows. And I looked round the ward and I held the pillow up. And I wanted so much to help him on his way – as all our elderly parents say to us ‘please don’t let me linger in pain’.
“But when the time comes it’s almost impossible to do the deed. Murder I don’t think is naturally in our DNA.”
“I told forensic anthropologist and general expert on death Dame Sue Black that I nearly murdered my dad.”
Dame Sue reassured Anneka about her instincts.
She told the 63-year-old presenter: “The one thing that connects what you wanted to do, which sounds like such a vicious act to most, is that it was through love.”
Anneka agreed: “It was through deep love. A week after my dad died my mother developed the exact same symptoms.”
The former ‘Challenge Anneka’ host has previously spoken about her dad’s struggles with the disease.
She said: “Mostly he lived in a parallel universe, often a fictitious health club, and we would spend many happy hours debating whether to have the hot stone massage or just a snooze by the pool.”

Leonardo DiCaprio looked ‘too young’ to play James Dean

OHMYGOSSIP — Leonardo DiCaprio missed out on playing James Dean because he looked like “a young kid”.
Director Michael Mann has revealed that, before he helmed his 1995 classic ‘Heat’, he was attached to direct a biopic about the ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ star – who died aged just 24 in a car accident in September 1955 – and though the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ actor had a “quite amazing” screen test for the lead role, the then-19-year-old hunk was ultimately deemed too young for the part.
Michael told Deadline: “It was a brilliant screenplay. And then it’s [the question of] who the hell could play James Dean? And I found a chap who could play James Dean, but he was too young. It was Leo.
“We did a screen test that’s quite amazing.
“From one angle, he totally had it with him. I mean, it’s brilliance. He would turn his face in one direction and we see a vision of James Dean. Then he’d turn his face another direction and it’s no, that’s a young kid.”
The director felt the ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ star would be perfect for the project in three years time but he himself ultimately decided to move on to work on ‘Heat’ instead because he couldn’t imagine shooting the biopic without Leonardo.
He added: “He, respectfully, undid the James Dean bio for me.”
While Leonardo missed out on the biopic, he was then cast as the male lead opposite Claire Danes in 1996’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and became a household name the following year thanks to his performance in ‘Titanic’.
To date, the Oscar-winning actor has never worked under the direction of the 79-year-old filmmaker, though Michael did serve as a producer on his 2004 movie ‘The Aviator’.

The ‘EastEnders’ actor is the 14th celebrity contestant confirmed for this year’s BBC Latin and ballroom show, and he hopes to do everyone “proud” with his performances.
He said: “I’m not known for my shimmy or my twinkle toes – in fact my kids regularly laugh at my dad dancing but it’s an honour to be asked and I’m going to give it my best shot.
“There are some huge dance shoes to fill and it’s truly exciting to follow in the footsteps of some amazing ‘EastEnders’ talent. I’d love to do everyone proud.”
James was revealed as the latest ‘Strictly’ star live on ‘Good Morning Britain’, from Albert Square, this morning (12.08.22).
He said: “I’ve known for a long time, and it’s been really hard to keep that a secret. I’m so pleased that now it’s finally out I can talk about it and I can tell people that I’ve lied to. Apologies if you’re one of those that I’ve lied to.
“I’ve had quite a while to get my head around it, but it’s still not really sunk in. I’m actually really nervous. I’ve got big shoes to fill.”
James has portrayed Martin Fowler in the BBC soap since 2014, after previously starring in BBC One mini-series ‘The Great Train Robbery’ and films including ‘Hummingbird’, ‘The Hooligan Factory’ and ‘Cemetery Junction’.

Diane Keaton didn’t know ‘a single thing’ about The Godfather before landing role

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Keaton didn’t know “a single thing” about ‘The Godfather’ before landing a role in the iconic movie.
The 76-year-old actress played Kay Adams in the 1972 crime film, but she hadn’t read Mario Puzo’s 1969 novel of the same name, which the motion picture was based on, before trying out for the part.
Speaking during her Hand and Footprint Ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, she told PEOPLE: “I think the kindest thing that someone’s ever done for me … is that I got cast to be in ‘The Godfather’ and I didn’t even read it. I didn’t know a single thing.
“I just was going around auditioning. I think that was amazing for me. And then I had to kind of read the book.”
Keaton reprised her role, as the wife of Al Pacino’s character Michael Corleone, in the film franchise’s second and third parts in 1974 and 1990 respectively.
The star has recalled how Pacino, 82, was cast after impressing the movie’s bosses during a chemistry read with her.
She added: “So he brought Al Pacino in and we did it together and for some reason that helped them cast him. Can you imagine if [they] hadn’t cast him? So a lot of these experiences that you have come and you’re just surprised, like today, this was a surprise. This is [a] complete, utter surprise to me.”
Keaton won an Academy Award for Best Actress for romantic comedy ‘Annie Hall’, and she has also received Oscar nods for ‘Reds’, ‘Marvin’s Room’, and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’.
The star’s children, daughter Dexter Keaton, 27, and son Duke Keaton, 22, were among her supporters at her Hand and Footprint Ceremony.

Kris Marshall has ‘never’ seen Doctor Who and reveals truth behind Time Lord rumours

OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Marshall has “never” seen an episode of ‘Doctor Who’.
The ‘Death In Paradise’ actor has repeatedly been tied to the iconic sci-fi show over the years whenever it’s time for a new Time Lord to take over to the TARDIS, but he has insisted the BBC hasn’t approached him.
He told Radio Times magazine: “If I’d been approached to audition for a show at the vanguard of TV for the last 50 years, I’d at least have done my research, but I’ve never seen an episode of ‘Doctor Who’.
“I’m sure it’s brilliant, but no, I’ve never been approached.”
The 49-year-old star – who left ‘Death In Paradise’ in 2017 – admitted he can see where the speculation came from, although he suggested it was never any more than that.
He added: “I left ‘Death in Paradise’ at around the same time as Peter Capaldi left ‘Doctor Who’, so the tabloids must have put two and two together to make five.”
Meanwhile, Ben Miller – who appeared opposite Kris in the first two series of the BBC detective drama – previously backed him as a great fit for playing the next Time Lord after Jodie Whittaker’s exit.
He added: “I have to say, I think that Kris would be brilliant in the role.”
Instead, ‘Sex Education’ star Ncuti Gatwa will play the part with returning showrunner Russell T Davies back at the helm, and the actor Ncuti said he wants to be “himself” as The Doctor.
Asked what he would bring to the role, he said: “Just myself, I think actors are incredible people that put so much of themselves into roles and so each one is going to be really different.
“Each Doctor that’s gone before has been so incredibly talented and so incredibly brilliant, I don’t know how I’m going to follow in their footsteps but I’m going to try my best.”
