Adrian Dunbar glad fame came later in life

OHMYGOSSIP — Adrian Dunbar is glad he found fame later in life.
The ‘Line of Duty’ star became a household name following the 2012 debut of the Jed Mercurio-created police drama, and Adrian admits it’s “more wonderful” now he is older and can appreciate and handle the pressure of being in the spotlight.
The 64-year-old actor told the Radio Times magazine: “But these things are all the more wonderful when they happen later because I think you’re in a better place to deal with it and also more likely to have learnt how to make the part work.”
After DS Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) was unveiled as crime boss ‘H’, Adrian is certain there is more to follow on the BBC series – which also stars Martin Compston and Vicky McClure – but he thinks theories that his character, Superintendent Ted Hastings, could be involved in institutional police corruption are “ridiculous” and would make the show “nonsense”.
Adrian has also confirmed he helped make a ‘Line of Duty’ spoof video about former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick.
In the clip, from campaign group Led by Donkeys, Cressida is heard saying: “We have a long established and effective working relationship with the cabinet office.”
Hastings then asks: “Who exactly does the Metropolitan Police work for ma’am? Our citizens, or Boris Johnson”, to which Cressida, after looking at her papers, responds: “Downing Street”.
Earlier this month, Adrian admitted that if there was to be a new ‘Line of Duty’ series it could focus on “something from past episodes”.
He said: “My thinking is that, no, it’s not the last you might see of us. I know that there are people who are talking and some plans, but I don’t know exactly what would happen. I don’t know what shape it might
take. There was talk of a film, there was talk about maybe two 90 minutes, there was talk about three one hours, I don’t know.”

Love Island stars praise Laura Whitmore after she quits show

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ stars have praised Laura Whitmore after she quit as the show’s host.
The 37-year-old TV presenter took to her Instagram account on Monday (22.08.22) to reveal she will not be fronting the next series of the ITV2 dating show – two years after she took over the role from the late Caroline Flack – and several former Islanders have admitted she will be “missed”.
Maura Higgins wrote on Instagram: “You will be missed”
Demi Jones posted: “You were incredible! We’ll miss you”
Ex-‘Love Island’ winner Paige Turley admitted she was “gutted” to hear Laura has left the show.
She wrote: “Gutted to hear this. You were amazing!! (sic)”
Former Islander Chris Hughes commented: “You did unreal”
Self-confessed ‘Love Island’ super-fan Vicky Pattison posted: “You did wonderful mate!! You’ll be missed”
Laura – who welcomed daughter Stevie into the world in March 2021 with her husband Iain Stirling, who narrates ‘Love Island’ – admitted she found some elements of the show “very difficult” and it wasn’t possible to alter them due to “the format”.
She wrote: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects. I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.
I hope I did you proud Caroline (sic)”
An ITV spokesperson said about Laura’s ‘Love Island’ exit: “Laura has been a fantastic host across the last three series of the show.
“We are so grateful for everything she has brought to the programme but understand and respect her decision, and we look forward to working with her on upcoming ITV projects.”
Last month, the presenter also departed her BBC Radio 5 Live show after four years.
In June, ITV confirmed there will be two series of ‘Love Island’ on ITV2 and ITVX next year.
A winter series will air in the new year as a fresh batch of Islanders head to South Africa on a quest for romance, and there will be another eight-week run in summer 2023 in Mallorca.
Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning and Controller, ITV2, said: “‘Love Island’ has once again proved itself to be the nation’s favourite talking point across the summer, and we’re always blown away by the show’s ongoing impact and talkability amongst our younger audience.
“So, rather than just serving up a Summer of Love, we thought we’d make 2023 the Year of Love with two full series of the show.”

Harris Dickinson to star in The Iron Claw

OHMYGOSSIP — Harris Dickinson will star in ‘The Iron Claw’.
The 26-year-old actor has joined Zac Efron in the cast of Sean Durkin’s new movie that will revolve around the Von Erich wrestling family.
Harris will portray David Von Erich in the film with Zac set to star as David’s elder brother Kevin Von Erich.
Based on the family’s true story, the project will follow the rise and fall of the family dynasty of wrestlers who made a big impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day.
A24 and Access Industries are co-financing the movie, which will be written and directed by Durkin. Tessa Ross, Derrin Schlesinger and Harrison Huffman are producing the film.
Dickinson’s breakout role came as John Paul Getty III in the TV series ‘Trust’ and he also appeared in movies such as ‘The King’s Man’, ‘Triangle of Sadness’ and ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’.
Harris features alongside Sam Rockwell in the upcoming film ‘See How They Run’ and revealed that he has been inspired by his co-star’s grounded approach.
The star explained: “Despite having this rich career, full of accolades and whatnot, he has not bought into his own b*******.
“And I think that makes you a better performer, because the minute you lose sight of what reality is and that you’re not the centre of the universe, then that’s when you start to lose sight of people, and how can you portray people if you’re getting caught up in that?”
Harris confessed that he can feel “guilty” about his acting success but appreciates that movies provide “escapism” for audiences.
He said: “Sometimes I feel guilty, especially given the tumultuous times that we’re in. But then you have to be reminded that storytelling is a form of escapism in some way, and that’s important.”

Luke Wilson joins Horizon cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Wilson has joined the cast of Kevin Costner’s new Western movie ‘Horizon’.
The 50-year-old actor has boarded the ensemble cast of the film that Costner is both starring in and directing.
The ‘Field of Dreams’ star will also produce the movie through his Territory Pictures Inc., and he has written the script with Jon Baird.
Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jamie Campbell Bower are also on board to star in the flick, which is being developed by Warner Bros. and New Line.
‘Horizon’ tells the story of the 15-year span of pre-and-post Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.
Told through the eyes of many, the epic journey is full of peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements to interactions with indigenous people who lived on the land, and the determination and ruthlessness of those who wanted to settle on it.
The movie marks the first time Costner has directed a film since 2003 and sees him revisit Civil War-era America – the setting for his 1990 Oscar-winning directorial debut ‘Dances With Wolves’.
Sources say that Wilson was one of the first actors to sign up for the project after forming a good relationship with Costner, with the star quickly offering him a role.
Luke played Emmett Richmond in the ‘Legally Blonde’ movies and revealed that he wants to return for the planned third film.
He said: “Of course [I’d do it]. As for the ‘Legally Blonde’ that we’re hearing about now — I don’t know anything than the usual man on the street.
“And that’s really the truth. I’ve heard they’re writing it and trying to put it together, but they’re keeping it pretty firmly under wraps.”

Judi Dench to appear on The Repair Shop special

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Judi Dench will appear on ‘The Repair Shop’.
The ‘Shakespeare In Love’ star, 87, will take an old pocket watch – one she gave to her late husband, Michael Williams, a year after they wed in 1971 – to be restored by horologist Steve Fletcher in a star-studded live edition to mark the show’s five-year anniversary.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Craig Revel Horwood will also appear alongside his wooden chimp, a ‘Sunset Boulevard’ prop given to him by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, to be fixed by furniture restorer Will Kirk along with Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell, dubbed the “Teddy Bear Ladies”.
The final products will be shown off alongside the show’s host Jay Blades at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
Stewart Clarke, the creative director of the festival, said: “This is the perfect opening entertainment piece and we would like to thank everyone involved for bringing a bit of ‘The Repair Shop’ magic of the barn to the TV Festival, it’s going to be an absolute must-see.”
Joanna Ball, the managing director of the show’s production company, Ricochet, said: “The team, on and off screen, has done an extraordinary job and our heartfelt thanks to Dame Judi and to Craig for sharing their precious stories with us.
“As always we’re a little bit nervous sharing the finished fixes but we hope that they love the work our experts have delivered as much as we loved working on them.”
Earlier this year, Judi joined Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders for a ‘Repair Shop’ sketch for Comic Relief, in which she portrayed a woman who wanted her childhood doll restored, only to have it destroyed by the ‘French and Saunders’ stars.
Dawn, 64, joked that the Academy Award winner was obsessed with Jay and he needed to be saved from “Judi’s clutches”.
She quipped: “Then we bring our friend Judi in as well. You’re going to have to rescue Jay Blades at the end of the day from Judi’s clutches, and then we’ll be next in line.”
Jennifer, 64, added: “And she’s a huge fan, Dame Judi. ‘Oh, he stole my beating heart,’ is what she said.”

Daniel Kaluuya can’t wait to watch Black Panther sequel as a fan

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Kaluuya is looking forward to watching ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ as a fan.
The 33-year-old actor will not reprise his role as W’Kabi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Jordan Peele’s film ‘Nope’ but has watched the trailer for the movie and is impressed by what he has seen.
Daniel told Variety: “Of course, I’ve seen it! It’s amazing.”
The actor revealed that he is comfortable with his absence from the upcoming film and suggested that it is “what’s best for the story”.
He said: “It’s what’s best for the story, what’s best for the film. I’m excited for it. I’m excited to watch it.”
Kaluuya remained tight-lipped when asked about his future in the MCU.
He joked: “You know I can’t tell you!”
Daniel has produced the comedy film ‘Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul’ – which stars Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown – and revealed that he was encouraged to get involved in the project after watching the short film of the same name that the story has been adapted from.
He recalled: “I watched the short and thought, ‘This is really special and amazing. They have a film right there.'”
The ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ star explained that he enjoyed producing as he was able to see the movie grow in a detached manner.
Daniel explained: “I love seeing something grow. You tell a story in a more detached way. It gives you a different point of view and you can help it and feel it and see it.”
The Oscar-winning actor needed to learn how to ride a horse for his part in ‘Nope’ and revealed that he wasn’t thrilled about working with animals.
Daniel said: “I got into an emotional scene with this horse, Lucky, and he started to do a really long pee and I had to wait until he finished.”

Maya Jama favourite to replace Laura Whitmore on Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Maya Jama is the hot favourite to take over from Laura Whitmore on ‘Love Island’.
The 28-year-old TV presenter is just 2/1 to front the next series of the ITV2 dating show, which takes place in South Africa in 2023, after Laura revealed this week she has quit the programme.
According to sports betting community OLBG.com, Maya heads the betting, with former ‘Love Island’ star Maura Higgins second favourite at 4/1.
After that, this year’s winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu – who triumphed alongside boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti – is 6/1 joint third favourite alongside former ‘Inbetweeners’ stars Emily Atack.
Those looking for a bigger punt might like to have a go at backing former ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ host Rylan Clark, who is 10/1.
Occasional ‘This Morning’ host Rochelle Humes is also 10/1, as is former ‘Love Island’ star-turned-documentary maker Olivia Attwood, while ex-Islander Kem Cetinay is 16/1.
It comes after Laura – whose husband Iain Stirling narrates the show – revealed she was quitting the programme because she finds some elements of the series “very difficult”.
She wrote on Instagram: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects. Adam Collard reveals real reason he returned to Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Collard says being “pretty set up for life” was a major motivation in him returning to ‘Love Island’.
The 26-year-old reality star, who first appeared on the ITV2 dating show in 2018, shocked viewers after making a comeback this season, and the star – who is currently dating fellow former Love Islander Paige Thorne after meeting this series – admitted one of the reasons he headed back to the villa was to help promote his business.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Adam insisted some of the Islanders are in the villa for similar reasons.
He said: “Right, I am just going to clear this up right now. Paige is amazing and we are flying right now but everyone who goes on ‘Love Island’ – it’s series eight now – people know what is coming off the back of it.
“You are getting a few followers, if you have a business like me it’s going to help amplify that and that put you in a better situation and there’s going to be loads of really good opportunities afterwards.
“So yes, everyone comes on and says I am here to find love and that, yes you kind of are and obviously that is unreal but nobody is daft.
“Everyone has seen Molly-Mae absolutely smash the hell out of life and to be fair she has smashed the hell out of her relationship as well but even if you can get a little piece of that, if you have been in the villa for long enough, you know you are going to be pretty set up for life.”
Just last week, the fitness trainer had made his relationship with the Welsh paramedic official.
He told On Demand Entertainment at the time: “The only time where we got to sit on the sofa. It was only us for the first time.
“I was like: ‘Right, I need to ask you now because it’s not for anyone’s benefit, apart from mine and yours.
“‘I do really want you to be my girlfriend.’
“I didn’t even ask her actually, I just told her. I just said: Right, so this is a thing now, please.”

Martin Lewis to host Martin’s Money Mondays on Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Lewis will host ‘Martin’s Money Mondays’ alongside Susanna Reid on ‘Good Morning Britain’.
The finance guru, who founded website MoneySavingExpert.com before selling it off in 2012, is returning in September to offer an array of money saving tips as the country prepares to enter an economic crisis.
Martin, 50, said: “I’ve been the Money Saving Expert for over 20 years – and in that time I’ve never seen anything like the cost of living crisis hitting the nation today, focused around the sickening rises in energy bills. Millions of families risk being forced into poverty by it.
“Sadly right now the best I can hope to offer many of those families is damage limitation, only the politicians have the power to provide actual solutions. So sitting alongside Susanna each Monday, I’m glad ‘GMB’ is giving us a dual purpose of practical help and holding power to account.”
Martin will host the new segment alongside Susanna, who will provide the most up-to-date information whilst holding politicians to account and hearing directly from viewers at home.
Susanna added: “I’m delighted to have Martin by my side on Mondays this September tackling such an important issue head on. People are being forced to make impossible decisions and may not know where to turn, so tune in for some advice, support and hope.”
Neil Thompson, Editor at ‘Good Morning Britain’, said: “The most pressing concern for everyone in the country right now is the cost of living. We want to do what’s best by our viewers – and there’s no-one better than our very own Martin Lewis to help navigate what is, sadly, set to be a very, very tough winter.
“With his expert knowledge every Monday, he’ll be joining Susanna Reid to give our audiences the best tips and practical advice to try to take the edge off the difficult days ahead.”
‘Good Morning Britain’ airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.

Kate Garraway: Caitlyn Jenner left I’m A Celebrity group chat after ‘two seconds’

OHMYGOSSIP — Caitlyn Jenner left the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ group chat after “two seconds”, according to Kate Garraway.
The former ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star, 72, was “over it” after appearing on the 2019 edition of the ITV reality competition in the Australian jungle and did not stick around to talk about the experience with some of her fellow campmates, who included Roman Kemp and Jacqueline Jossa, the eventual winner.
During a conversation on ‘Good Morning Britain’ about whether it’s OK to leave a WhatsApp group chat, the 55-year-old broadcaster said: “I seem to remember there was a jungle WhatsApp group that was formed when we left ‘I’m A Celebrity’ and Caitlyn Jenner … I think it was about two seconds [after] she exited the runway that she left the group chat.
“She was over it very early on!,” before clarifying that the Olympic champion had shared her personal number to stay in contact.
In 2020, Kate revealed she and Caitlyn were still chatting.
While on ‘Loose Women’, she said: “Yes [Caitlyn has stayed in touch]. She’s coming back over to the UK for the National TV Awards next week, so we’ll all get to see her again then.
“We haven’t actually seen her since because she was on that plane and out of there, ‘Can’t see me for dust, I want to get back to luxury.”
Kate remarked that despite her usual glamorous Hollywood life, Caitlyn was willing to pitch in “with everybody”.
She said: “Apart from the fact she has an extraordinary life, she was great, she just got stuck in with everybody.
“She was 70, sleeping on the floor of the jungle with rats and snakes and spiders and never moaned once. She’s amazing.”
This year will mark the return of ‘I’m A Celebrity’ to Australia after two years of COVID-19 restrictions forced ITV to relocate to Gwrych Castle in north Wales.

Joseph Kosinski claims ‘old-school’ nature of Top Gun: Maverick makes it successful

OHMYGOSSIP — Joseph Kosinski credits the “old-school” nature of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ for the movie’s popularity.
The Tom Cruise-led sequel has grossed over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office and Joseph believes the old-fashioned methods of the blockbuster have contributed to its phenomenal success.
Asked about the film’s superb performance, Joseph told The Hollywood Reporter: “Well, we made the film to be enjoyed on the big screen, in the best theatre you can find, and we finally were at a time where people felt comfortable going back to the theatre to rediscover that experience that we all missed for a couple of years. So I think that had a lot to do with it.
“The story also resonated with people. They got to see Tom come back to the role of Maverick after 35 years, and that was a real thrill for people. So we just wanted to make an old-school movie.”
The filmmaker continued: “We shot it in an old-school way with real high-tech gear, and I think people really felt all the effort that went into shooting a practical movie.
“The feedback I kept getting from people was that they were gripping the edge of their seat while watching this. So it’s one of those things where you really appreciate the power of practical filmmaking as you’re being told a story.”
Fans of the movie theorised that Cruise’s character Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell died during the film’s opening sequence and Joseph embraces the idea.
Kosinski explained: “Movies are meant to be interpreted in a variety of ways, and I love it when people read different meanings into it.
“So I love hearing that theory, and certainly, there’s a mythic kind of element to the story that I think lends itself to that sort of interpretation, based on who Maverick is and what he represents and the fact that he’s kind of going through this rite of passage at a different phase of his life.”

Katie Piper back on TV days after agonising hospital dash for emergency eye operation

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Piper is back on TV days after being rushed to hospital for an emergency eye operation.
The presenter, 38, said on Instagram she would be back on ‘Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show’ on ITV on Sunday morning (21.08.22) after she suffered agony.
The acid attack survivor was last week taken to hospital for a procedure on her right eye after her husband Richard Sutton noticed a concerning black spot.
Her discoloured area became “extremely painful” for the host, leaving her tormented with pain within hours.
She announced she was coming back to TV after the operation by telling fans to “set their alarms” ahead of her latest weekend show.
Katie added: “It’s about that time – grab your slice of toast and your cup of coffee, 8.30am on ITV for the breakfast show.
“Guess who’s joining us on the sofa today – it’s only DJ Fat Tony, and another lovely guy, the icon that is Ollie Locke. See you there, guys!
“Set your alarms and I’ll see you at 8:30am tomorrow morning on ITV.”
It comes after Katie posted an image of her bandaged left eye following the operation.
She said: “On Saturday my husband noticed a small black circle in my blind eye, I was excited thinking I had a pupil again.
“But by Sunday my left eye was extremely painful and couldn’t tolerate light, so I patched it up and put it down to old injuries. I’m used to being in some level of discomfort and I went to work.
“By Sunday night I felt nausea and in extreme pain. I got in touch with my eye specialist and unfortunately he confirmed the black circle was a hole in my eye and the eye had perforated.
“This had always been a fear that it would happen. Yesterday, my specialist sourced tissue for me and operated on me.
“There maybe some evil people in this world but there are also some pretty incredible people doing amazing things for people on a daily basis.”
Mum-of-two Katie was 24 when she was attacked with acid by an accomplice of her ex-boyfriend, causing major damage to her face and blindness in one eye before she underwent pioneering surgery to restore her face and vision.

Former ‘Doctor Who’ actor Colin Baker fought tears up as he was banned for speeding in Lexus

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Doctor Who’ actor Colin Baker held back tears up as he was banned from driving after he lost track of space and time.
The 79-year-old, who was also fined, was caught doing 58mph in a 30mph zone on his way to film a show, The Sun On Sunday revealed.
A court heard how the ex-curly headed Time Lord veteran committed the offence while he got lost following a BBC camera crew last November.
The dad-of-five told magistrates he was working in Telford, Shropshire, and was set to film in Ironbridge the next day when he got waylaid in his Lexus – and failed to notice a speed limit had changed.
According to the Sun On Sunday, Baker explained: “I said, ‘Give me the sat nav code’. They said, ‘No, follow us’.
“I followed the BBC camera car, lost them on a roundabout, tried to catch up and that’s when I committed the offence. I had no intention of speeding.”
Baker added he was caught out as a stretch of road changed from the national speed limit to 30mph.
He said: “Yes, it’s a sob story you’ve probably heard a thousand times, but it’s true. I’m an actor, I work in theatre.
“I’m doing a play in October and November. Not working for me is not an option.”
Baker from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire admitted speeding at Worcester magistrates court.
Chair of the bench Jayne Burton said the actor, who already has six points on his licence, was doing nearly twice the limit.
The Sun On Sunday said the actor was seen fighting tears as he got a 21-day ban and £480 fine.
He was also ordered to pay court costs of £95 and a victim surcharge of £34.
When magistrates asked him what the impact a ban would have, the actor, who also starred in Casualty and Jonathan Creek, replied: “Quite a lot.”
He added: “Because of what I do, I’m very conscious of how I drive.”
Baker added he would be forced to turn work down if banned due to the difficulty getting to venues, and said he had turned down work in order to appear at court.
The actor thanked magistrates and said he would pay the full £609 within 28 days.
He played the Time Lord in the BBC’s ‘Doctor Who’ from 1984 to 1986 and came eighth when he appeared on ITV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ in 2012.

Sega ‘developing film adaptations of classic games Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone after Sonic the Hedgehog was smash’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sega is reportedly developing film versions of its classic titles ‘Space Channel 5’ and ‘Comix Zone’ after its ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ adaptation was a $300 million box office smash.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the firm will partner with Picturestart to adapt the games – a production company most recently responsible for the 2022 comedy-drama ‘Cha Cha Smooth’.
It comes after ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, starring Jim Carrey as a mad scientist, was a huge big-screen hit, with its producer Toru Nakahara said to be taking the same role in the two new projects.
‘Comix Zone’ is a 1999 “side-scrolling” adventure game where the protagonist is pulled into a universe by a supervillain.
‘Space Channel 5’ from 2002 followed a news reporter fighting off an alien invasion using the power of dance.
The ‘Comix Zone’ film is said to have the title ‘Zone’ and reportedly involves a comic book creator and a queer writer of colour who are sucked into a comic.
The pair then have to work together to stop a supervillain from wreaking chaos on the world, and will be written by Mae Catt who will be joined by Sega producer Kagasei Shimomura.
The ‘Space Channel 5’ adaptation is set to be a comedy titled ‘Channel 5’ and will revolve around a fast-food worker contacted by a reporter from the future who needs his help to save the world from invading aliens – before they decide to fight back by dancing.
It is reportedly being written by Barry Battles and Nir Paniry, with Sega game director Takumi Yoshinaga joining the team.

Stephen Tompkinson on GBH charge after allegedly beating dad so badly he was left with double skull fracture

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Tompkinson allegedly beat a father so severely he was left with a double skull fracture.
The ‘DCI Banks’ and ‘Brassed Off’ actor, 56, is facing a crown court trial accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm, it was revealed on Friday night. (19.08.22)
He was charged following an alleged late-night fight, said to have happened outside a house where he was living in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside.
The Sun first revealed the case on Friday, and said Tompkinson denies the charge.
He is on a grievous bodily harm charge so serious he faces a maximum five-year sentence if convicted.
His alleged victim is said to have been left with a double skull fracture and lost the ability to work.
Prosecutors claim Tompkinson “unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm”.
He appeared before North Tyneside magistrates’ court earlier this month where he pleaded not guilty.
It is understood the alleged victim can recall hardly anything about the incident.
Tomkinson’s TV credits also include ‘Wild at Heart’ and ‘Ballykissangel’, with the actor critically acclaimed for his portrayal of a broke family man miner in ‘Brassed Off’.
He first found fame as rogue reporter Damien Day in 1990s comedy ‘Drop the Dead Donkey’, for which he won the 1994 British Comedy Award for best TV actor.
Tompkinson went on to became a household name as Father Peter Clifford in Ballykissangel in 1996, the same year ‘Brassed Off’ became a cinema smash.
He is next due to star in ITV drama ‘The Long Shadow’, about Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.
When asked to comment on the court case at his seafront flat in Tynemouth, North Tyneside, The Sun said the twice-divorced actor and dad-of-one, who has been with his partner Jess Johnson, 41, since 2017, responded: “No thank you.”
A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the actor appeared before magistrates on Wednesday, August 10, and faced a “single charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm”.
They added he will next appear at Newcastle crown court on Wednesday, September 7.
