The Games and Walk the Line cancelled

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Games’ and ‘Walk the Line’ have been axed.
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, has confirmed the two entertainment shows will not be returning
Speaking as part of a panel at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday (24.08.22), she said: “They aren’t coming back, no.”
‘The Games’ – which was presented by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff – aired in May and featured the likes of former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star Kevin Clifton, ex-‘Coronation Street’ actor Ryan Thomas, and model Christine McGuinness take part in Olympics-style events.
Former ‘Love Island’ star Wes Nelson and singer-songwriter Chelcee Grimes won the first and only series.
Wes scored the highest overall points with a total of 45 across a week of events and was named overall winner, while Chelcee took gold as the top women’s celebrity athlete after competing in track and field events, as well as swimming, diving, climbing and slalom canoeing.
Ryan and Phoenix Gulzer-Brown took silver, while Josh Herdman and Rebecca Sarker won bronze.
Wes said at the time: “I’m absolutely buzzing. For me it’s been more than just winning. This has been so good for my mental health, just being in and around sport again. I didn’t realise how much I missed it but this was the wake-up call I needed and 100 per cent, I’m going to keep it up.
“But for me, truly, the biggest journey and the biggest transformation has been Colson [‘Coronation Street’ star Colson Smith, who could not swim before the competition] he deserves this trophy. He has been an absolute credit to this whole competition and has been an inspiration to all of us. All the guys have been absolutely incredible, we’ve made friends for life.”
‘Walk the Line’ – which was co-produced by Simon Cowell’s company Syco – aired in 2021, hosted by Maya Jama.
The show saw music acts compete for a grand final prize of £500,000, but the winner of each night’s episode had to decide whether to return the next evening for fight for their chance to win the big jackpot at the end of the week.
It featured a judging panel of Gary Barlow, Craig David, Dawn French and Alesha Dixon.

Mark Wahlberg struggled through ’embarrassing’ Me Time nude scene

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Wahlberg struggled with filming an “embarrassing” nude scene for his new film ‘Me Time’.
‘The Departed’ star shed his clothes on screen for the first time in years for his role in the new comedy opposite Kevin Hart – in which he plays a fun-loving friend who helps Kevin’s character discover his wild side – and was left wearing nothing but his shoes as he filmed a scene showing his bare bum.
Mark told The Hollywood Reporter: “Day two was great because I got to put my clothes back on. Day one was rough. I was only wearing sneakers. It was a bit embarrassing but other than that it was all good. It was just such a fun environment. You know, I mean, I never laughed so much in my life.”
In the movie, Kevin plays uptight stay-at-home dad Sunny who is pushed out of his comfort zone with the help of his fun-loving friend Huck – played by Mark.
Kevin revealed the character was very different to his real life persona. He added to the publication: “I was the class clown. I’m a guy that wanted to laugh. Without laughter, I felt like something was missing. So all trouble came from doing the thing that you weren’t supposed to do in class.
“But it was always done in a loving way, not in a malicious way. I loved being the guy who was responsible for people smiling in those classrooms, in those hallways, in the cafeterias. It’s something that really did get me through the younger portion of my life.”
‘Me Time’ is released on Netflix on August 26.

Aquaman and Shazam sequels pushed back

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ has been pushed back.
The hotly-anticipated movie is shifting release dates from March 17, 2023, to a Christmas release that year, on December 25, 2023.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is filling the vacated March 2023 space by moving ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ there, meaning it will now be released next year rather than on December 21st.
Thanks to Shazam 2’s move to a new date, the motion picture will now have access to Imax screens.
And the movie, which will be helmed by David F. Sandberg, could well be worth the wait.
Director Sandberg recently admitted he was shocked that Dame Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu agreed to star in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) sequel. They will star as villains Hespera and Kalypso respectively.
Sandberg said: “I mean, it’s a dream come true, first of all. I’ve been watching movies with Lucy and Helen, and now I get to work with them – which is just amazing.
“They’re just the best. When we had these parts, we were like, ‘Let’s try and get the biggest and best actresses we can.’ And we were able to, because they said yes. It’s amazing.”
The upcoming blockbuster is a sequel to the 2019 film ‘Shazam!’ and sees Zachary Levi return in the title role.
Sandberg explained that a follow-up was never in any doubt.
Asked when Warner Bros. contacted about making the film – which will also feature Adam Brody and Rachel Zegler – he recently said: “The first movie just came out, and we were already having meetings about what’s the sequel going to be and trying to figure that out. Didn’t feel like there was ever a point of like, oh, is there going to be a sequel or not?”
‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ will see Jason Momoa reprise his role as the titular superhero, alongside the likes of Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, and Dolph Lundgren.

ITV boss defends ‘Love Island’ after show hit with more than 1,500 Ofcom complaints amid ‘bullying’ rows

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV’s boss has defended ‘Love Island’ after the show was hit with 1,500 complaints to industry regulator Ofcom.
The network’s director of television Kevin Lygo, 64, hit back after viewers objected to scenes of alleged “bullying” on the latest series of the ITV2 dating show by saying there was a “risk” involved with appearing on television.
He added the only way to guarantee risk-free programming would be to ban members of the public from taking part in shows.
It comes after this year’s ‘Love Island’ contestants Luca Bish and Dami Hope were accused of ganging up on castmate Tasha Ghouri.
According to The Sun, Mr Lygo said in a talk at the Edinburgh TV Festival: “We are moving into a different era here and we have to be very mindful that there is a certain risk to going on television.
“It may not be exactly what you think it’s going to be as a member of the public, but I don’t think we should stop, because the logical conclusion is, ‘You don’t allow members of the public on telly’. That’s the only way.
“When you see the attitudes of young people and what they say, you could say some of the things that go on in these shows shouldn’t be shown.”
Mr Lygo insisted “duty of care” to TV contestants was one of the top priorities for producers, stressing ‘Love Island’ contestants have access to counsellors during their time in the villa and when they leave.
Tasha, 24, admitted she and boyfriend Andrew Le Page were ready to quit ‘Love Island’ after being “targeted” during the show.
The dancer said she felt “backed into a corner” after having cream pies pushed into her face during a challenge, adding: “It was a lot… it’s such an intense environment and hard to escape. You’re stuck in there together. I was ready to walk out.
“A lot had happened in the space of three days and a lot of it was targeted at me. I was upset. I did kind of walk out. I said (to producers), ‘I’ve had enough’ and Andrew said, ‘I’m gonna go with you.’”
Ofcom received 1,509 complaints on July 19 about the show, the majority of – were about alleged misogynistic behaviour from the male ‘Love Island’ contestants towards their female castmates.

John Boyega has co-written script for Attack the Block sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega has co-written the ‘Attack the Block’ sequel.
The 30-year-old actor is reprising his role as Moses in a follow-up to the 2011 sci-fi comedy film and revealed that he has had a major input into the script with director Joe Cornish.
In an interview with Collider, John said: “This process has been fantastic. The story has actually been presented by myself and Joe Cornish. We’ve collaborated heavily on making a story that makes sense for Moses and the other characters, and the new characters that will be coming up in the sequel too.
“And then, also, there’s different perspectives in writing it, with Joe having his perspective and me having mine.”
The original movie follows a gang in London who have to defend themselves from alien invaders and John says that the picture will reflect the changes that have taken place in the city since the first film.
The ‘Star Wars’ actor explained: “London has changed so much, in so many different ways, over the years since the first movie. We’re just tryin’ to make sure we explore all of that, while bringing in a whole different vibe to that crazy a** first movie that we made.”
Boyega confirmed that the “spine of the story” is finished and suggested it will not be too long before the film begins production.
He said: “We’re quite close. We’re gettin’ there. Obviously, we don’t wanna release no dates to anybody because we wanna take care of the creative process.
“We have the main spine of the story, but we’re still in the lab, just making sure the story is right. Story is everything.”
John continued: “But it won’t be too long. I’ve given them the drums to speed up the process. Hopefully soon, we’ll have an announcement for when we’ll be around London, messin’ stuff up.”

Simu Liu cast as villain in Atlas

OHMYGOSSIP — Simu Liu will play a villain in the Netflix movie ‘Atlas’.
The ‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings’ star has landed a role alongside Jennifer Lopez in the sci-fi film with Sterling K. Brown and Abraham Popoola also joining the project.
Brad Peyton will direct the drama which tells the story of an intelligence analyst who gets stranded on a distant planet and must learn to fight inside a military-grade mech suit in order to survive.
Aron Eli Colette has written the screenplay for the movie and worked off an original script by Leo Sardarian.
‘Atlas’ is part of the creative partnership between Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and Netflix which sees J.Lo, her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and manager Benny Medina working on a slate of films, TV series and other content with the streaming giant.
The partnership has a focus on projects that support female actors, writers and filmmakers.
Simu has been cast as a Ken doll in the new ‘Barbie’ movie and revealed that he has been waxing his body for the highly-anticipated new flick, which is also set to star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
The 33-year-old actor said: “Waxing has been an education to say the least. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis.”
Little is known about the plot of the ‘Barbie’ movie and Simu is a fan of how movie bosses have approached the project.
He said: “Honestly, the discourse online is giving me life. With every casting announcement or bit of news, they’re like: ‘What is this?’ And that’s perfect – the less you know about it the better.”

Jilly Cooper’s Rivals lands Disney adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Jilly Cooper’s bestselling book ‘Rivals’ is to be adapted into a TV series by Disney+.
The streaming giant has revealed a new eight-part series is in the works, and it will be executive produced by Jilly, former ‘EastEnders’ boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins and ex-‘Ackley Bridge’ producer Alexander Lamb.
Jilly – who released the book in 1988 – said: “I am so, so excited.
“Throughout my childhood, my favourite word was ‘Disney’, and by a miraculous coincidence, greater-than-ever Disney are joining forces with an utterly brilliant drama company, Happy Prince, to turn my novel into a TV series.
“I know they will bring the boardroom battles and love triangles of my characters to life – particularly those of my devastatingly handsome hero.
“I cannot wait to see who will be stepping into his shoes … let the hunt for our Rupert Campbell-Black commence!”
Dominic, executive producer at Happy Prince, added: “I have been wooing Jilly Cooper since I first started working in television.
“Jilly’s iconic novels’ razor-sharp observations on class, sex, love and what it means to be British resonate even more today than when Jilly wrote them in the 1980s.
“I’m so excited to bring Rivals to the screen, entertain fans of the beloved Cooperverse and introduce a whole new generation to the sweeping love stories, social satire and biting wit of Rutshire.”
‘Rivals’ will be set in 1986 in the fictional upper-class county of Rutshire where a long-standing rivalry between two powerful men, notorious womaniser Rupert Campbell-Black, and his neighbour Tony Baddingham, controller of the independent TV franchise Corinium Television, is set to boil over.
The series is expected to bring a 2020s lens to the 1980s.
Lee Mason, Director of Scripted Content, EMEA, Disney+ added: “The combination of Jilly Cooper and Disney+ is delightfully unexpected.
“We were thrilled when Dominic brought us these iconic books, and we leapt at the chance to bring them to life.
“We can’t wait to welcome Rupert Campbell-Black and the residents of Rutshire to the platform.”
Elliot Hegarty will be lead director of the series.

Pop Idol not set for comeback, ITV confirms

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Pop Idol’ is not set for a comeback, ITV has confirmed.
Speaking at this year’s Edinburgh International TV Festival, the broadcaster’s head of entertainment commissioning Katie Rawcliffe said while it had been “talking about potentially a reunion show at some point”, the series itself is “not coming back”.
Ms Rawcliffe made the announcement while admitting she gets asked “weekly” whether a revival is on the cards.
One of the show’s judges, Neil ‘Dr’ Fox, had told The Sun a reunion was “certainly on the cards” to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.
ITV bosses had been said to be “in talks” to bring back the show that spawned music careers for Gareth Gates, Will Young, Michelle McManus and Darius Danesh who died earlier this month.
But a source had told the Daily Star there was “absolutely no truth” in talk it would return as a series.
Yet there was speculation it could come back as a one-off show or anniversary special in 2023.
Online TV news sites started rumours the show, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 46, would be back on screens by next year.
One said: “We understand that ITV expressed interest in the format before Christmas and entered fresh talks earlier this week with execs from America, Holland and Sweden – including original creator Simon Fuller.
“ITV are understood to be interested in rebooting the series for a special season in Autumn 2023 to mark 20 years since it was last on UK TV.
“The series has not yet been formerly commissioned from ITV, and host(s) and judges are to be confirmed.”
‘Pop Idol’ ran from 2001 to 2003 but was put on hold when Simon Cowell, 62, launched The X Factor on ITV in 2004.
Fuller, 62, sued Cowell for copyright infringement over claims the now-axed ‘X Factor’ copied the ‘Pop Idol’ format.

Rose Ayling-Ellis shuts down Doctor Who rumours

OHMYGOSSIP — Rose Ayling-Ellis has shut down ‘Doctor Who’ rumours.
The ‘EastEnders’ star was the centre of speculation after announcing last week that she was quitting the BBC One soap, and the 27-year-old star – who shot to fame playing Frankie Lewis in the show for two years – hinted she was moving on to work on a top secret project.
After following ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T Davies, casting director Andry Pryor as well as actor Ncuti Gatwa – who is taking over as the titular Time Lord next year – on Instagram, fans were convinced she was the Doctor’s new companion.
Addressing the rumours on Sky News, Rose said: “I have no idea where that got started! A rumour just spread.
“There’s no truth, I think it was a rumour that started last week on Twitter and it’s just got bigger and bigger and now it’s everywhere!”
Upon hearing the speculation, fans were quick to respond and were “very excited” about her potentially joining the cast.
One fan tweeted: “Doctor Who is one of my all time favourite shows, and if Rose Ayling-Ellis turns out to be the new companion, I think I’d pass out with the excitement!! Please let this be true! (sic)”
Another added: “If Rose Ayling-Ellis is the new doctor who companion I will cry.”
And a third person wrote: “Rose Ayling-Ellis for the next companion in #DoctorWho, please. #eastenders. (sic)”

‘Sex Education’ star Ncuti will make history as the first black actor to play the iconic role of the Doctor.
Gatwa will make his debut in 2023 as the Fourteenth Doctor, taking over from Jodie Whittaker, who is stepping down this autumn.

Jaime Winstone felt ‘scared’ about taking on Peggy Mitchell role in EastEnders flashback

OHMYGOSSIP — Jaime Winstone felt “scared” when she was offered the role of Peggy Mitchell for a special ‘EastEnders’ flashback episode.
The 37-year-old actress previously took on the role of Dame Barbara Windsor in BBC biopic ‘Babs’, and next month she will step into the shoes of the late actress’ iconic soap character Peggy, but Jaime admits she had “a deep chat” with her agent before accepting the job.
Revealing her response when the call came in to play the iconic character, Jaime confessed: “It was scary. I had to think about it properly, I had a deep chat with my agents about it but when it’s an opportunity like this – Peggy Mitchell, the landlady of our nation – it’s an honour for me.”
Jaime admits the flashback episode, which is set in 1979 and will see the unravelling of the Mitchell family’s chequered past, is “turbulent” and “fast paced”.
She explained: “It’s really about the family before the Mitchells became the Mitchells … and also see why Phil is who he is.
“It’s set in 1979, the backdrop is London, grim, quite skint, there’s rubbish on the streets … and it was different for women then, women knew their place and did the cooking, the cleaning and were very proud home keepers.
“It’s a turbulent episode – there’s lots to take in. It’s fast paced … you’ll see a more vulnerable side to her. It’s the making of how Peggy Mitchell became Peggy Mitchell.”
Jaime – who is the daughter of movie star Ray Winstone – also hinted soap fans could see more of her in Walford one day.
When asked if viewers could see more of her on Albert Square, she said on ‘This Morning’: “Watch this space!
“I really love the idea of doing a working class period drama – going back and doing something in the 70s was just epic.”
‘This Morning’ airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.

Mo Gilligan aiming to break America after signing deal to make new Hollywood-style show in LA

OHMYGOSSIP — Mo Gilligan is aiming to break America after signing a deal to make a Hollywood-style show.
The presenter, 34, will produce an eight-part series called ‘That’s My Jam’, which will be shown on the BBC, and shot in Los Angeles.
its successful pilot shoot in the city, based on the US music and comedy contest hosted by Jimmy Fallon, is said to have caught the eye of Hollywood executives who want to do more with Mo.
The Sun reported the host, who has appeared in shows including ‘The Lateish Show’, ‘The Masked Singer’ and currently Channel 4’s ‘The Big Breakfast’ revival, said at the Edinburgh TV Festival: “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to work over there more, but there’s a lot of stuff here I still want to do. I don’t feel like I’ve done it all – I’ve won a couple of Baftas but I’ll have a couple more.
“I would never neglect what I have here. But this was a very important show for me to do.
“I want to keep on adapting and learning, so going over there to do the pilot, whether it was going to get commissioned or not, that was a big deal.”
Asked if he wanted to do more shows in the US, he joked it was all about the money, adding “Yes, if the bag is right.”
He added to The Sun: “The weather is sensational too. Waking up just wearing a T-shirt is fun – no trousers, just the T-shirt.”
Mo in the Jimmy Fallon role on ‘That’s My Jam’ will see the host interview celebrity guests and front trivia-based games and musical performances.
The original NBC show drew inspiration from musical segments on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, with signature games including ‘Launch the Mic’, ‘Air Guitar’, ‘Don’t Drop the Beat’ and ‘Slay It, Don’t Spray It’.
Universal Television Alternative Studio President Toby Gorman told Deadline: “Jimmy has big shoes to step into and Mo completely owned it. “The series feels completely bespoke to a UK audience.”

Jason Momoa will play Aquaman for as long as fans are interested

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Momoa will keep playing Aquaman as long as film fans are interested.
The 43-year-old star will return as the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) superhero in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ and says he is happy to continue as the character as long as the audience wants him.
Quizzed on how much longer he will play Aquaman, Jason told The Hollywood Reporter: “As long as we can. If people don’t like it and it feels like it’s past its due date, then we won’t make another one.
“But if they love it, then we will make more, you know. I don’t want to force anything down someone’s throat to watch it. But I love it.”
Jason has had a hand in writing the story for the new film – which has now been delayed until December 2023 – and admits that he feels a deep connection to the part.
The ‘See’ star said: “We wrote a great story. I was one of the writers on it and the minute we finished (‘Aquaman’) I went in with a 50-page outline for the second one and they used it and they liked it. It’s got my heart in it.
“I feel very connected to the character and have played him across, what, four movies now?”
Momoa is unconcerned by the latest delay to the movie’s release as he is confident that fans will be happy with what they see. He also thanked Tom Cruise and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ for making cinemas appealing again.
He said: “We killed it. We made something amazing and it’ll come out when it’s meant to come out.
“The nice thing about what’s happened with COVID is that everyone is trying to rush to meet these deadlines but we know it should come out when it’s ready to come out (at a time) when everybody is getting back in the movie theatres. So, thank you Tom Cruise.”

Olivia Wilde was ‘blown away’ after seeing Florence Pugh in Midsommar

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Wilde was “blown away” by Florence Pugh after watching her in ‘Midsommar’.
The 38-year-old filmmaker cast the ‘Little Women’ star in her film ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and explained how she knew Pugh was going to be a “superstar” after watching her in the 2019 film.
Olivia told Variety: “I had been blown the f*** away by her. I loved the film, but I loved her. I was just like, ‘Well, she’s extraordinary. She’s clearly the most exciting young actress working today.'”
‘Don’t Worry Darling’ will be released next month and is set in the 1950s. It sees Florence and Olivia’s boyfriend Harry Styles play the seemingly happy couple Alice and Jack Chambers but cracks start to appear in their life when Alice becomes curious about the mysterious company Jack is working for.
It is the second feature film Wilde has directed following the 2019 flick ‘Booksmart’ and she is grateful to get another opportunity behind the camera.
The ‘House’ star said: “It’s harder for women to get a second chance at directing. Fewer people will invest in the second film of a woman than a man.
“I was so lucky. My movie didn’t make a billion dollars. It struck enough of a nerve of the cultural zeitgeist that I was allowed to have another opportunity. I really feel, at this point, that I have earned the right to say I’m a director.”
Olivia also praised Harry and Florence for the dynamic they created on set together.
She explained: “We were all brought so close by the bubble of the production.
“She was a really great supporter of his as someone who was newer to a film set. And he was such a great supporter of hers, as someone who understood it was her film.”

Junior Eurovision Song Contest coming to BBC for first time

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Junior Eurovision Song Contest’ is coming to the BBC for the first time.
Armenia – the country that won the 2021 competition with Maléna’s ‘Qami Qami’ – will host the contest for those aged 9 to 14 on December 11.
The winner will be decided by juries and global online voting.
CBBC with BBC Studios Entertainment and Music already started scouting for young musical stars to take part.
And the UK’s entrant will be confirmed in due course, as will the nation’s commentator.
Patricia Hidalgo, Director BBC Children’s and Education, said: “We are beyond excited to bring the Junior Eurovision Song Contest to the BBC for the first time, and to showcase the diverse young musical talent from across Europe for children and their families to discover and enjoy together. This junior version of Eurovision will undoubtedly encapsulate the same spirit of unity that the adult contest brings, reflecting the heart of what CBBC is all about, an inclusive channel that celebrates the diversity and creativity in all children. I can’t wait to unveil our own musical talent who will proudly represent the UK.”
The first ‘Junior Eurovision Song Contest’ was held in 2003.
The news comes after it was announced that seven UK cities will be competing to host the next ‘Eurovision Song Contest’.
The show will be held in Britain in 2023 and the race is on to find a suitable location after 20 cities entered the application process in a bid to host the ceremony – and now the list has been narrowed to Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
The BBC’s Director Unscripted Content Kate Phillips said: “We would like to thank all of the cities and regions that submitted bids to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. We have seven fantastic cities who we are taking through to the next round.
“Congratulations to Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield – it’s exciting to see such a breadth of bids going through from across the UK. We are committed to delivering a truly unique Song Contest that celebrates wonderful Ukraine and champions British music and creativity in all its diversity.”
The shortlist was compiled based on each city’s ability to meet hosting requirements and demonstrate they have the “capacity, capability and experience” to organise such a large event in a short space of time.
Each potential host location also had to show how they would celebrate Ukrainian culture at the event as the country’s entry Kalush Orchestra was crowned the 2022 winner but it was decided Ukraine would be unable to host the 2023 show because of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
In the next stage of the selection process, each city will have to submit a bid in more detail.
The winner will be decided by the BBC and the European Broadcasting Union – the organisation behind the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ – and will be announced in the autumn.
The choice of the UK also comes after Brit Sam Ryder came second to Kalush with his hit ‘Space Man’.
‘The Junior Eurovision Song Contest’ will air on CBBC, BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
