The Suspect director reveals opening scene’s Doctor Who connection

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Suspect’ director James Strong has admitted the opening scene was “reminiscent” of a scene he worked on for ‘Doctor Who’.
The filmmaker at the helm of the new ITV thriller – which started on Monday night (29.08.22) – has discussed the first scene, which saw psychologist Dr. Joe O’Loughlin (Aidan Turner) on a high window ledge trying to stop 17-year-old Malcolm (Gabin Kongolo) from taking his own life.
Reflecting on the logistics of shooting such a tense scene, he admitted it was “an incredibly complicated process”.
He told RadioTimes.com: “I’ve been fortunate enough to do a couple of those sorts of things – there was actually an episode of ‘Doctor Who’ called ‘Partners in Crime’, where David [Tennant] and Catherine Tate are hanging out a window, so that was kind of reminiscent of this.”
Joe was strapped into a harness, but he dropped a second one meant for Malcolm – which viewers learned was due to early onset Parkinson’s disease – and had to remove his own equipment and give it to the teenager.
However, Malcolm lost his footing and they both fell from the ledge, with them both hanging on for dear life until the emergency services arrived and helped them to safety.
Further going into the shoot, Strong added: “Firstly, you’ve got to work out what shots you want, so you do storyboards or shot lists – a bit of both – and you kind of imagine a sequence in your head, and then you work out how to get each one of those shots …
“It then breaks down to what we could do at a real location – and then obviously working with the constraints of that location, and what the insurance will let you do, and what you can do with visual effects.
“So all those things are considerations – time, money, all that stuff.”
Meanwhile, he was determined to film practically as much as possible, with stunt doubles shot high on a ledge of a real London hospital, and the two actors shot on a “quite high” ledge created for the scene.
He said: “VFX is so good these days, I probably didn’t really need to have have people on a ledge. But psychologically I felt you would know, and you can tell.”

Jaime Winstone got a ‘sign’ from Barbara Windsor about playing Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Jaime Winstone agreed to play Peggy Mitchell after getting a “sign” from Dame Barbara Windsor.
The 37-year-old star – who will play the iconic ‘EastEnders’ character in a flashback episode set in 1979 showing the unravelling of the Mitchell family’s chequered past – feels like she has the approval of the late actress, who played the character from 1994 until 2016.
Jaime said: “I have such a deep connection with her and respect for her. I did have my own sort of question to her.
“I did actually have a little word with Barbara up above, and I got my signs, and I just felt like it was written for me.
“So I felt like I got the go ahead and Scott [Mitchell, Barbara’s husband] approved it and everything.”
Jaime – who previously worked with Barbara when she portrayed the actress in BBC drama ‘Babs’ – revealed the key sign was a butterfly in her garden.
She told Metro.co.uk: “It’s quite private, but…it was a butterfly, actually. It was days before I was deciding, and it’s an opportunity of a lifetime [but] I still had to think about it.
“It was a little blonde butterfly that kept coming in my garden and I was thinking…we don’t normally get too many butterflies.
“So that was my sign, ‘that’s her’. You know when you know.”
Jaime admits she had “a deep chat” with her agent before accepting the job.
Revealing her response when the call came in to play the iconic character, Jaime confessed: “It was scary. I had to think about it properly, I had a deep chat with my agents about it but when it’s an opportunity like this – Peggy Mitchell, the landlady of our nation – it’s an honour for me.”
Jaime has admitted the flashback episode is “turbulent” and “fast paced”.
She explained: “It’s really about the family before the Mitchells became the Mitchells … and also see why Phil is who he is.
“It’s set in 1979, the backdrop is London, grim, quite skint, there’s rubbish on the streets … and it was different for women then, women knew their place and did the cooking, the cleaning and were very proud home keepers.
“It’s a turbulent episode – there’s lots to take in. It’s fast paced … you’ll see a more vulnerable side to her. It’s the making of how Peggy Mitchell became Peggy Mitchell.”

Angela Lonsdale joins Hollyoaks

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Lonsdale has joined the ‘Hollyoaks’ cast.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress will play Gill, the mother of killer Joseph Holmes (Olly Rhodes), who recently stabbed PC Saul Reeves (Chris Charles) to death as part of the soap’s ongoing knife crime plot.
Ex-‘Our Girl’ star Angela said: “I can’t wait for the viewers to see this important storyline unfold over the next few months.”
Gill will first appear on screen on Tuesday (30.08.22) on E4 – and again on Channel 4 on Wednesday (31.08.22) – when Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) and Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams) arrive at her family home to try to find evidence that proves Joseph was involved in Saul’s murder, after he framed Felix’s son DeMarcus Westwood (Tomi Ade) for the crime.
In the coming weeks, viewers will see Gill go to great lengths to defend her son.
Angela is no stranger to appearing in a soap, having portrayed police officer Emma Taylor in ‘Coronation Street’ from 2000 to 2003.
Emma went on to marry Curly Watts (Kevin Kennedy) and the pair fled Weatherfield to start a new life in Newcastle in 2003 after she was promoted to an inspector.
But the pair later went their separate ways off screen, as in the soap’s 2010 DVD spin-off ‘Coronation Street – A Knight’s Tale’, Curly confessed he and Emma were no longer still together.
Angela went on to star as another police officer, DI Eva Moore, in ‘Doctors’ from 2006 to 2008 and again in 2011.
Beforehand, she appeared in now-defunct serial dramas ‘Holby City’ and ‘The Bill’ in 2005 and 2006 respectively, and she returned to ‘Holby’ again in 2018.
Angela’s most notable TV role of late has seen her play Grace Lane – the mother of ex-‘Corrie’ star Michelle Keegan’s character Georgie Lane – in BBC drama ‘Our Girl’ from 2016 to 2020.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige join Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley

OHMYGOSSIP — Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige have joined the cast of the new ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film.
The duo have signed up to star alongside Eddie Murphy in Netflix’s newly-titled movie ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley’.
Production on the film is underway with Mark Molloy directing and Murphy reprising his role as the titular police officer Axel Foley. The star will produce with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman from Jerry Bruckheimer Films with Will Beall penning the script.
The original ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ movie was released in 1984 and certified Eddie’s status as a leading movie star. The film was followed by sequels in 1987 and 1994.
Murphy had previously suggested that he wouldn’t appear in the franchise again unless the script was right.
Speaking last year, the 61-year-old actor said: “They’ve been trying to make another ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ for 15 years now.
“Right now, Netflix has it, and they’re trying to develop a script. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing next. But, I’m not doing nothing until the script is right.”
Eddie claims that he is still recognised as Axel Foley but previously confessed that he was not a fan of the third film in the series.
He said: “The third ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ was garbage. Those movies, when I travel overseas, people say, ‘Hey, ‘Beverly Hills Cop’! Axel Foley!’ They call me that s***. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie, it has to be right.”
The star previously suggested that he won’t be returning to the busy film schedule he had during the 1980s and 1990s.
Eddie said: “I’m not going to be making two or three movies a year like I did back in the early days.”

The 24-year-old actress will both star in and produce the Sony Pictures adaptation of the novel by Madison Lawson.

Lawson’s novel will be published on September 27 but Sony are keeping the plot of their adaptation under wraps.
A synopsis for the book reads: “Imagine it’s legal to commit one murder in your lifetime, if you Register the victim and accomplish the kill within fourteen days.
“When Lynell Mize stands in line to Register the man who abused her as a child, she’s shocked to hear a stranger Register her to be killed. Why would anyone who doesn’t know her squander his one legal murder on her? Desperate to survive the next two weeks, she must find out who wants to kill her and why.”
Lynell discovers that a number of strangers have used their Registration on her and she reunites with her estranged husband who wants to dig up a past that she hopes to keep buried.

Amy Hart wants McDonald’s drink as soon as she gives birth

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Hart has told her boyfriend to order her a large McDonald’s Coke “as soon” as she gives birth.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who is between 13 and 14 weeks pregnant – revealed this week she and her boyfriend Sam Rason are expecting their first child together, and the 30-year-old ex-Islander is already missing her fix of the soft drink amid her pregnancy.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “I don’t drink tea and coffee but am a full fat Coke fiend and one has not passed my lips since 1st July.
“I’ve told Sam that literally as soon as I’ve given birth I need a large McDonald’s Coke asap. Ginger ale and Appletiser have been an OK substitute though.”
Amy also admitted she has struggled with insomnia and found it hard not being able to take sleeping tablets because of her pregnancy, but insists it is “all for a good reason”.
She added: “Re ff [full fat] Coke. I was advised by a HCP [healthcare professional] that even though you *can* have 200mg of caffeine a day, if I *could* cut it out it would be good!
“Luckily, my main home slice Rio is caff free.
“It’s just personal choice and as it’s not like I wake up every morning and have a Coke like everyone else has a coffee. It’s easier to give up as if I don’t buy it I can’t have it.
“The other thing I’ve struggled with is having insomnia. Having a drawer full of American sleeping tablets and not being able to take them [crying emoji] All sacrifices for a good reason! (sic)”
Amy appeared on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ on Monday (29.08.22) to announce her pregnancy, and admitted it was “very unexpected”.
She said: “I felt the only place to announce that I’m pregnant is ‘Loose Women’.
“It was very unexpected, we weren’t going to start trying until next year … I had my 30th completely sober – Amesfest. Stacey’s sister made me a cup so no one could see what I was drinking and everyone kept coming up to me and saying, ‘You don’t seem very drunk?’
“And I said to my best friend, ‘People are beginning to ask,’ and she said, ‘Well, you’re going to have to do something then!’ So the Abba tribute band was playing ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’ and I started crawling across the dancefloor, and nobody asked again!”
Sam later joined the ladies at the desk, and he said: “It was just such a shock, it was so unplanned, it just happened – disbelief really.”
Amy has previously spoken out about freezing her eggs, which she did aged 27 because early menopause runs in her family.
Earlier this year, the star said she would donate her frozen eggs if she couldn’t use them.

Phillip Schofield describes This Morning as his ‘support group’ ahead of show return

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield says ‘This Morning’ is like a “support group”.
The 60-year-old presenter – who will be returning to the sofa with co-host Holly Willoughby, 41, on Monday (05.09.22) after their summer break – compared the backstage mood on the ITV show to a trip to Las Vegas, with everyone trusting each other to keep anything they talk about under wraps.
He said: “We just have such fun. I mean, in the make-up room in the mornings, everyone’s chatting – it’s like ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!’ Everyone knows everything about everybody, and that’s nice…so I always miss that friendship group.
“But we all stay in touch outside of the show anyway, WhatsApping stuff and keeping up with everyone’s news. This Morning is more than just a show, it’s such a lovely group of people to come to work with and you do miss that – it’s not really a job!
“It’s more than a job, it’s much much more than that… and I’m not gonna lie, ‘This Morning’ is one of my support groups and that’s a lovely thing to have.”
When it comes to the WhatsApp group chats, the team have a few different ones set up, all with their own tone and level of decency.
He explained: “We definitely have a boxset-watching group! If someone is watching something and they like it, it’s a place for recommendations…
“And there are other ones where we are being a little more outrageous where we tell each other stories and update on things that we’ve done and send pictures of where we are.
“We have lots of different WhatsApp groups. We’ve got one with Martin our editor too – but nothing outrageous gets sent to him!”
Meanwhile, Holly explained how it helps having a co-star to settle back into work with after a break.
She said: “You know what, I sometimes forget what I’m doing after a long weekend! But you soon get back into the swing of things and that’s nice when there’s two of you because if I was on my own I’d be much more worried about that … we’ve always got each other to fall back on.”
Phillip and Holly return to ‘This Morning’ from Monday, September 5 at 10am on ITV.

Maisie Smith lost ‘clumps’ of hair during Celebrity SAS filming

OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Smith lost “clumps” of her hair during filming for ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.
The 21-year-old star has revealed how she coped with Channel 4’s grueling armed forces reality show, which saw her swap the UK for the Jordanian desert.
She told OK! magazine: “At the start, I was trying to look in the coffee cups just to see if I had spots – and my hair fell out! For a good few showers, clump after clump.
“I think it was just from having it in that tight bun and all the mud and sand stuck in it. But as the days went on, you just tend to stop caring at all.”
The ‘EastEnders’ actress admitted her outlook on life – including the way she thinks about her appearance – shifted due to her experience on the show.
She explained: “It was the first time I’ve ever not cared and it was very refreshing. I found that when I came back, when I was at home, that sort of feeling stayed.
“I was like, ‘You know what, I’ve just done something that’s made me the strongest I’ve ever felt mentally and physically’.
“So when I came back, I just felt incredible. It was quite nice that we weren’t allowed to see ourselves.”
On the new series, Maisie will be joined by the likes of reality TV stars Calum Best and Amber Gill, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ brothers AJ and Curtis Pritchard, TOWIE’s Fern McCann and more.
She’s hoping to inspire people through her own growth on the show, particularly as viewers will see “a lot of vulnerable sides”.
She added: “I like pushing myself out of my comfort zone and seeing how strong I can be physically and mentally,” Maisie discloses.
“I think as well, being a young woman in the world, I wanted to be that empowering, strong woman who could go out there and say, “Look, I’m pushing myself to the limit, and I definitely left feeling pretty strong.’ ”

Gogglebox star Jenny Newby pays tribute to Lee Riley after finally receiving her BAFTA

OHMYGOSSIP — Jenny Newby has paid tribute to ‘Gogglebox’ co-star Lee Riley after she missed most of the last series due to illness.
The two friends have become fan favourites on the Channel 4 show, and the hit series won a BAFTA earlier this year in the Best Reality and Constructive Factual category.
Jenny, 66, had to miss the ceremony due to surgery, but she finally has her trophy and she delivered a belated acceptance speech from her back garden.
In a video shared by Lee on their joint Instagram account, she said: “Hiya, Lee. It’s only me. I’ve got my BAFTA.
“I know I couldn’t be there with you on the night. I swapped my evening gown for my theatre gown, and my black stocking for surgical stockings and my silver clutch bag for a catheter bag.
“But all in all, I never got to say thank you for the support you gave me through the pandemic when we were filming.
“The things that you did for me. Like, giving me that 9ft by 5ft bedroom, wall to wall walls, and enough room under the bed for my Pot Noodle and a packet of fags.
“And the one shelf you gave me in the kitchen. And I had to stand on a step to get to it.
“But I just want to say, all in all, Lee, thank you very much for being my bezzie mate and I’m hoping to see you soon.”
And Lee hinted they’ll be filming very soon, as he shared the video over the weekend with a promising caption.
He wrote: “This is why I love this woman. Thank you for your kind words Jenny. See you next week”.
He added a camera and TV emoji, suggesting they could be getting ready to do some filming.
‘Gogglebox’ is set to return to Channel 4 for a new series on September 9.

Ewan McGregor thought he was too ‘urban grunge’ to be in Star Wars

OHMYGOSSIP — Ewan McGregor thought he was too “urban grunge” to appear in ‘Star Wars’.
The 51-year-old star played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy of the sci-fi franchise but revealed that he nearly turned down the part as he wanted more indie roles following his success in ‘Trainspotting’.
Ewan told the ‘Smartless’ podcast: “I really had to think about it. Because it came right after that ‘Trainspotting’ period, and by that time I was so full of myself.”
The actor quipped: “I was like, ‘I am Danny Boyle’s actor. I am f****** urban grunge. I am the Oasis of the British movie industry’, and then when ‘Star Wars’ came around, I felt, ‘I don’t know if I want to do this. This isn’t me.’
“I was so into being this sort of antihero. I felt like an indie British actor. I felt like that defined me.”
McGregor revealed that it was a childhood love of the franchise that ultimately persuaded him to take the part.
The ‘Moulin Rouge!’ star recalled: “In the end, it just got closer and closer. By that time, I was just so attached to the idea of it from where I was a kid. To get a chance to be that character and play the younger Alec Guinness was pretty awesome.
“I was almost grateful to be involved in something that big and to be part of the legend of it, because I loved it. When I was a kid, I loved those films. I was six or seven when the first one came out. It’s in me somehow.”
Ewan, who reprised his role as the Jedi for the Disney+ spin-off series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, says that making the sci-fi films was hugely different from featuring in indie projects.
He said: “It’s a different process. Those prequels, it was very much the challenge of trying to be believable in front of a blue curtain for four months.”

Daniel Craig had to learn Knives Out accent again for sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Craig forgot his ‘Knives Out’ accent.
The 54-year-old actor reprises his role as Detective Benoit Blanc in the sequel ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ and revealed that he spent months working with a dialect coach perfecting the sleuth’s Kentucky drawl once again.
Daniel told Empire magazine: “I went away to work with an accent coach for three or four months before we started shooting. I’d forgotten the accent, and I didn’t want to do a pastiche. I wanted to make it as grounded and as anchored in reality as possible.”
The former James Bond actor continued: “How the f*** do we take something that caught people’s imagination and made them talk about murder mysteries, and do it again without it becoming a pastiche of itself?”
The original ‘Knives Out’ film was a hit when it was released in 2019 and director Rian Johnson has suggested that he prefers Craig’s character to have an element of mystery surrounding him.
He said of the new movie: “There’s definitely more Blanc, but it’s not very interesting to me, the notion of building out Benoit’s life.
“Like with Poirot and Miss Marple, what’s fun is how the elements of Benoit’s character reveal themselves through his act of solving each one of these mysteries.”
Having starred as 007 in five films, Daniel admits that he has no fear about turning ‘Knives Out’ into a successful series of films.
He explained: “I’ve spent the past 15 years of my life trying to do that in a franchise, so I’m not afraid of it.
“If you’ve got the right people in the room and the right talent, then you can do it. Rian’s a genius writer and doesn’t want to repeat (himself). Neither do we want to let people down, we want audiences to enjoy the world that we created in the first one and believe in this one.”

The global music icon will join Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford on the panel of the ITV show – which is a revamped version of ‘Stars in their Eyes’ which saw hopefuls impersonate various music icons – after ‘Four Lives’ star Sheridan was unable to sign up for any further episodes because of her commitments to filming a new acting project.
In a video announcement on the ‘Starstruck’ Instagram page, Shania said: “Hi everyone, I’m here in Las Vegas I’m about to get on the stage to do a show, but I wanted to take a quick minute to say that I’m so excited about heading to the UK soon to join [the] ‘Starstruck’ panel. Mrs Brown’s Boys returning for mini-series in 2023

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ will be back with a new mini-series next year.
The popular BBC sitcom has become a firm fixture in the festive schedules but there hasn’t been a full series in nearly 10 years, and now actress Fiona O’Carroll – who is the daughter of creator and lead star Brendan O’Carroll – has revealed filming will begin soon on a number of new episodes.
Fiona – who plays Maria Brown, the wife of Brendan’s titular character’s son Dermot – told the RTE Guide: “In October we’ll be filming ‘Mrs Brown’: two Christmas specials and the first of a mini-series of four episodes, the other three early next year.
“We’ve the live show in November at the SSE Arena in Belfast and 3Arena in Dublin. And we’re planning more theatre dates for next year.”
Fiona previously revealed a planned mini-series for this year was halted because of the impact of COVID-19.
She said: “There is lots of talk and lots of talk and until it is happening you will never really know. Yes, there is talk.
“We were supposed to be doing a mini series this year but, unfortunately, due to various different reasons it didn’t happen.
“So, there is talk of it happening next year, a possible mini series. It is not just down to us, it is down to studio time, it is down to crew and it is down to cast.”
Brendan – who plays Agnes Brown – previously revealed he would love to get U2 on the show, even though he isn’t a fan of celebrity cameos.
He said: “Normally we would never have famous people as guest stars on ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’. It’s not something we do.
“But the one thing I would love to do is have Bono and U2 on. I would get them to play Foley’s at the end of the episode.”
Brendan admitted he has the dream plot all figured out.
He said: “I’d have Agnes go up to them on the stage just as they start playing one of their hits and go, ‘I don’t want to hear any of that s***’.
“And then she gets them to play crooner songs. That’s my one wish so let’s see if that ever works out.”

Jordan Peele teases possibility of Nope sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Peele has teased the possibility of a ‘Nope’ sequel.
The 43-year-old filmamker isn’t giving much away, but he suggested there could be more films in the ‘Nope’ universe after IMDb listed Michael Busch as uncredited character Nobody, who was in the first trailer but cut from the movie.
He told the New York Times newspaper: “People are doing a lot of interesting detective work, is what’s going on.
“The story of that character has yet to be told, I can tell you that. Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention.
“I do think they will get more answers on some of these things in the future. We’re not over telling all of these stories.”
In the trailer, Busch’s character could be seen smiling calmly walking across what seemed to be a movie lot, with everyone else charging in the opposite direction – presumably away from Gordy the Chimp’s attack.
In one disturbing moment which did feature in the film, the young Ricky ‘Jupe’ Park (Steven Yeun) spotted his co-star’s shoe pointing up at the sky.
Although Peele stayed coy on the exact meaning of the shoe, he added: “I can say, from a character-driven standpoint, the scene is about a moment in which a dissociative psychological switch gets flipped for the character.”
Meanwhile, Peele – who has also written and directed both ‘Get Out’ and ‘Us’ – previously revealed he already has “a few ideas” for his next film.
He said: “I don’t know what’s next, there are a few ideas percolating. I need to kind of sink into the world a little bit and allow the world to sort of tell me which one is the next one.
“So that’s what my next couple of months will be spent doing… Sitting, watching, waiting, looking at my coffee. If you watch good films you’ll get inspired, even if it has nothing to do with anything you want to do.”

Nicolas Cage to star in Dream Scenario

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage will star in ‘Dream Scenario’.
The ‘Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ actor has signed up to appear in the upcoming comedy, which will be directed by ‘Sick of Myself’ filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, Deadline reports.
The director will also write the script, while Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen will produce under their Square Peg banner alongside A24 – who are also financing the movie – Jacon Jaffke and Tyler Camellone.
Apart from being described as a comedy, plot details for the film are being kept under wraps.
Meanwhile, after playing a version of himself in ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ and Dracula in the upcoming ‘Renfield’, Nicolas recently admitted he is “excited” to have been offered more comedy roles recently.
However, the 58-year-old actor is also keen to spread his wings further and would jump at the opportunity to star in a musical.
He said: “Right now, I’m excited that the comedy is back on the menu. It hasn’t been there for, gosh, 15 years. That’s nice that I may have the opportunity to do more comedy.
“But I’ve never done a musical. That would be something that I would be curious about.”
However, the ‘Con Air’ star mainly just wants to keep making indie dramas.
He added: “I just want to continue on the roots of the indie drama. That’s my true passion, movies like ‘Pig’ or ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ or ‘Joe’. ‘Bringing Out the Dead’ — I saw that recently. I have to say that might be the best movie I ever made.”
But the ‘Moonstruck’ star’s dream role is Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo.
He said: “I would like to play Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo because of the character’s love of the ocean I share that with him.”
