Michael Keaton thinks Batgirl axing was ‘business decision’

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Keaton thinks the axing of ‘Batgirl’ must have been a “business decision”.
The ‘Batman’ star – who was replaced by Val Kilmer in the last film of the 90s comic book adaptation trilogy – admits he “really doesn’t know” why the $90 million film was scrapped by Warner Bros last month, but “assumes” it made good business sense.
Keaton had reprised his role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman for the film, which was due to see Leslie Grace star as the titular character/ Barbara Gordon.
He told Variety: “I think it was a business decision. I’m going to assume it was a good one. I really don’t know.”
Keaton made awards show history on Monday night (12.09.22) by becoming the first male actor to win all five major TV awards when he took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Emmy at the Primetime Emmy Awards for his performance in ‘Dopesick’.
The 70-year-old actor added to the Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Television Critics Association Awards he has already won.
Accepting the prize at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, he said: “I have to tell you first of all, my face hurts so much from all the fake smiling I’ve been doing.
“Thanks to the great folks at Disney and Hulu and everybody at that table, this is one of the special projects I’ve ever worked on. It means something, so thanks a lot. It’s wonderful. I’m very, very grateful.”
Earlier in the night, Keaton was asked when he would next appear as Batman.
He joked: “A little later tonight, probably, if you’re lucky enough.
“We’ll see. It was great. It was fun. I really have no idea.”

EastEnders pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth with special scene

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth with a special scene in last night’s (12.09.22) episode.
Before the usual titles had run, the BBC Soap began with soap matriarchs Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kathy Beale (Gillian Wright) standing around a picture of the late monarch, who died aged 96 last Thursday (08.09.22), in The Queen Victoria pub.
Denise said: “She has been there our whole lives, it’s like she’s everything we have ever known.”
Kathy added: “It just feels so personal, just devastating, it’s like we have lost our nan.”
Linda – who is a huge fan of the royal family – said: “We have … we have all lost our nan. She dedicated her entire life to serving us.”
The trio also discussed the recent visit to Albert Square by King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
They all toasted the new king, saying: “Long live the king.”
Linda then told Denise and Kathy of her plans to pop down to Buckingham Palace to pay her respects for the late monarch.
And she placed the queen’s picture next to the pub’s Queen Victoria bust, and said: “Look after her.”
At the end of the scene, Linda said: “Thank you Ma’am, from us all.”
The usual ‘EastEnders’ title sequence then aired and the episode played out.
Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) recently admitted Charles and Camilla pulled their ‘EastEnders’ cameo “out of the bag” when they appeared in the soap.
He said: “They were really good, they pulled it out of the bag.
“We had 20 minutes with them. We rehearsed it, they got out of the motor, we did it and then they left.”

Scarlett Moffatt: Ant and Dec taught me how to present live TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Moffatt was “taught” how to present live television by Ant and Dec.
The 31-year-old star was crowned Queen of the Jungle by the Geordie duo on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2016 and subsequently enjoyed a presenting stint on ‘Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ as well as ‘Extra Camp’, and she has admitted it was “so good” to have their support.
She told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “That was so good when I first came out of the jungle. Ant and Dec were both so lovely and, you know, they taught us how to present really. That was always quite a little role. I’ve been doing it a long time now so…”
The former ‘Gogglebox’ star – who has been dating policeman Scott Dobinson since 2020 and hosts conspiracy theory podcast ‘Scarlett Moffatt Wants to Believe’ on BBC Sounds with him – has remained tight-lipped about a potential reunion.
Scarlett previously explained that while she has “thought about” appearing on the upcoming ‘I’m A Celebrity’ all-stars show – which will see former campmates from the jungle-based reality show reunite in South Africa for a special spin-off series – she does not want to take part for fear of “tarnishing” her experience from the first time round.
In March, Scarlett admitted she is grateful to Ant and Dec for taking her “under their wing” after her raised profile, following her ‘I’m A Celebrity’ success, made her fearful about leaving her own house.
She said: “I’m so grateful for Ant and Dec. Because I didn’t have anyone in London and they just took me under their wing.
“I’d go for Sunday dinner with them and they’d give me amazing advice and I felt like I had a friend.
“Their accent and everything – I felt like home when I was in their presence – either when we were filming, or we’d go to Dec’s house or to the pub.
“That, alongside calling Samaritans, and openly speaking about my feelings, I finally felt like, ‘Yay, she’s getting back to her old self again’.”

Samantha Morton wants studios to support her film projects

OHMYGOSSIP — Samantha Morton has written a trilogy of films about the care system.
The 45-year-old actress spent nine years in foster care and children’s homes during her younger years – but she’s recently been frustrated in her attempts to get two of her film projects off the ground.
Samantha – whose first film was called ‘The Unloved’ and was released in 2009 – explained: “‘Starlings’ is about leaving care and being placed in a homeless hostel.
“Then my third film is about the perspective of a parent having a child taken away from them and fighting social services. That’s called ‘Pamela’ and it’s based on my mother.”
Samantha can’t understand why film studios have been so reluctant to support the projects.
She told The Independent: “If people read the scripts and didn’t like them I’d say fair dos. But there’s no interest. Film 4 just wants to make comedies and films with Shane Meadows.”
The Oscar-nominated actress experienced abuse during her younger years – but she’s never had any desire to find “personal revenge”.
Samantha – whose film credits also include ‘The Messenger’, ‘Decoding Annie Parker’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ – shared: “Without sounding like a twit, I honestly can’t say I’ve ever sought revenge.
“I’ve felt absolute horror and grief and confusion when human beings do awful stuff, either to society or to each other. I’ve never had that kind of desire to have personal revenge.”
Despite this, Samantha believes people eventually pay the price for their bad behaviour.
She said: “I’ve always believed that it all comes out in the wash, that you have to be careful what you sow.”

Judi Dench given ‘powerful’ glasses to see late husband’s watch on The Repair Shop

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Judi Dench was given two pairs of “powerful” glasses on ‘The Repair Shop’ to enable her to see her late husband’s watch.
The 87-year-old actress – who was married to actor Michael Williams from 1971 until his death in 2001 – took a timepiece once belonging to her late husband onto the BBC One craft show, but she was unable to see the team’s work until horologist Steve Fletcher loaned her his spectacles.
Steve said: “She was looking at the watch and couldn’t see the engraving we’d put on the back. So I loaned her my glasses and she said, ‘I can see it so well now.’ ”
The Oscar-winning actress was then presented with two pairs of glasses – which provide up to five times magnification – by the TV star and could see “everything about the watch” in what became a “lovely moment”.
Steve told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “She could see everything about the watch and it was a lovely moment. She could use them as really powerful reading glasses. Sometimes the simple things work.”
Judi told Steve: “You’re so very kind.”
The ‘Belfast’ actress – who was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration in 2012 and has been coping with sight loss ever since – previously explained that she had to “find a way” through her vision issues.
She said: “You find a way of just getting about and getting over the things that you find very difficult. I’ve had to find another way of learning lines and things, which is having great friends of mine repeat them to me over and over and over again. So I have to learn through repetition, and I just hope that people won’t notice too much if all the lines are completely hopeless!”

Daniel Craig wants to make another Knives Out movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Craig is keen to continue making ‘Knives Out’ movies.
The 54-year-old actor has reprised the role of detective Benoit Blanc for ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ and Daniel is eager to keep working with director Rian Johnson.
He told Variety: “If he keeps writing them, I’ll keep doing them. That’s what makes it easy then, he’s such a wonderful writer that it’s there on the page for me to do.”
‘A Knives Out Mystery’ is largely separate from the 2019 original, ‘Knives Out’. And Rian is keen to keep surprising his audience in the coming years.
He explained: “Part of the fun of these things is the idea that they’re not sequels, they’re completely new books and they’re completely new stories.
“To me, the idea for the next one – and I’m going to try to stay in this state of mind as I write it – it’s not about trying to top the previous one, it’s about just trying to create something that surprises us and thus hopefully will surprise the audience and thus delight the audience.”
Meanwhile, Rian recently revealed that ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ became “slightly bigger” in scale than he originally planned.
The director wrote and helmed the original ‘Knives Out’ movie, and he admits that the follow-up project is distinctly different in terms of tone and scale.
Rian – who also helmed ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ in 2017 – said: “It had a very different narrative gambit to it in that it was trying something different and unique, and tonally, I was going to go where the characters led me. Which, given the characters in the movie, ended up to a slightly bigger place.”

Queen Elizabeth had near miss on Emmerdale set

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth was once nearly struck by a piece of flying wood when watching an explosion being filmed on ‘Emmerdale’.
The monarch – who died aged 96 on Thursday (08.09.22) – visited the iconic Yorkshire village in 2002 during which the soap’s stars were shooting an explosion at the post office, and while she took in the spectacle a piece of wood went “quite near” the monarch, but she didn’t even flinch.
‘This Morning’ soaps reporter Sharon Marshall said on the brunch-time show: “She went to see the actual scene they were filming of the post office being blown up.
“A piece of wood, apparently, blew a lot closer than everyone was expecting.
“She didn’t flinch. She didn’t move at all. She just continued with the tour.
“The wood went over the street and quite near the queen. They all continued filming the scene. She didn’t flinch an inch.
“She was charming, continued with the tour, went around and said hello to everyone.”
In 2001, the queen visited the ‘EastEnders’ set at Elstree, Hertfordshire, and she was given a guided tour by Dame Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell).
Barbara said at the time: “I know she isn’t an ‘EastEnders’ fan but it’s lovely she’s here. I am a royalist – I love the Prince of Wales [then-Prince Charles] – and Camilla watches ‘EastEnders’.”
The Duke of Edinburgh also visited the set, and was given a separate tour by Wendy Richard (Pauline Fowler), during which he asked Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale): “Are you an actor or an operator?”
What’s more, the queen visited the ‘Coronation Street’ set in July 2021 for the first time in 39 years.
She was greeted by soap stalwarts William Roache – who plays Ken Barlow, the soap’s longest-serving character – Barbara Knox (Rita Tanner), Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts) and Helen Worth (Gail Platt) outside the Rovers Return at Manchester’s MediaCityUK.
Elizabeth looked delighted to meet the ‘Corrie’ quartet, and during her cobbles visit – to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary – she learned how the soap adapted its filming process amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Upon her arrival, the monarch was greeted by ITV’s chairman Sir Peter Bazalgette, and John Whiston, managing director of continuing drama.
She later headed to a different part of the studios to go inside the Rovers – the soap’s pub – where she met other cast members, including Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe), Alison King (Carla Connor), Shelley King (Yasmeen Metcalfe), Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) and Colson Smith (Craig Tinker).
The queen walked off the cobbles, down a red carpet, to the iconic ‘Corrie’ theme tune playing in the background.
During her visit, she was presented with her very own cobble.

Millie Gibson has been ’emotional wreck’ filming final Coronation Street scenes

OHMYGOSSIP — Millie Gibson was an “emotional wreck” while shooting her final scenes on ‘Coronation Street’.
The 18-year-old actress has starred as Kelly Neelan on the ITV soap since 2019, but is to exit the show in a rooftop showdown with bad boy Gary Windass (Mikey North) – after discovering he killed her father – and Millie was “crying constantly” for a fortnight in the run up to her final scenes.
She said: “I’ve been a wreck! If you ask anyone, there was a good two weeks where I was just crying constantly. I think I was just so overwhelmed and so grateful of the scenes and the storyline that had been given to me!”
The former ‘Jamie Johnson’ star went on to explain that a standout scene for her was with actor Mikey, because she realised it was the “beginning of the end” for her character.
She said: “There was a specific scene that sticks out to me where basically, throughout mine and Gary’s relationship, we’ve never hugged. We’ve always been like, ‘Why’ve you never hugged me? Even when I’m breaking down in a basement, you’ve never hugged me!’
“But there was a scene where Gary hugs Kelly, and it’s a really simple scene. As soon as we did it, I just burst out crying. It was just like, ‘It’s the beginning of the end now!’
“I think when we started filming our last scenes of being nice to each other, that’s when we were like, ‘Oh, gosh, this is getting real now!’ It’s been an emotional journey.”
Millie’s exit scenes are due to air later this month.

Jacques O’Neill ‘couldn’t leave the house’ after Love Island stint

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacques O’Neill “couldn’t leave the house” after appearing on ‘Love Island’.
The 23-year-old rugby league player appeared on the hit ITV2 reality dating show in July but quit shortly after the Casa Amor stage, and has now told how his mum Janet begged him to depart the Mallorca villa and come home.
Speaking on the ‘Learning About Judgement’ podcast, he told former ‘Love Island’ star Scott Thomas: “The hardest thing was … sorry, mate. Just seeing my mum, how she was. Seeing her in a state. I couldn’t leave the house. [She was struggling] with the death threats. When I got out the villa, I had to go into a holding villa.
“My mum was like, ‘Get out, Jacques. Just get out right now, get home. Just leave.’
“I was kicking off and was saying, ‘Get me a flight right now, I just want to be with my mum.’ I knew she was in a bad place, she was breaking down on the phone.”
Jacques went on to explain that when he got home to his mum in Cumbria, the pair had to stay at home because “everyone hated him” after he had kissed Cheyanne Kerr during Casa Amor, while he was in a couple with fellow contestant Paige Thorne.
He added: “When I got home, she went, ‘Jacques, we can’t go out. We can’t go out. Like, everyone hates you.’ I just wanted me and my mum to be OK.
“I was so numb after the villa. It killed me to see the way my mum was.
“I couldn’t speak to her about deep stuff because I’d just break down. It took me two weeks to give her a cuddle.”

Chris Kamara ‘feels like a fraud’ presenting live TV after apraxia diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Kamara “feels like a fraud” presenting live TV after his apraxia diagnosis.
The 64-year-old star quit his role on Sky Sports’ ‘Soccer Saturday’ after 24 years in April 2022, and while he has continued his television career by co-hosting ‘Ninja Warrior’, now feels he is not giving the “best” version of himself since being diagnosed with the neurological condition that has affected his speech.
He said: “I feel a fraud now in terms of broadcasting – I don’t bring to the table what I used to. I feel I’m doing these programmes and they’re not getting the best of me – they’re tolerating me, that’s how it feels. You take your old self for granted .”
The former footballer went on to explain that it is “really strange” to hear his new way of speaking and has found it “really hard” to accept the diagnosis.
Speaking on ‘The Diary of a CEO’ podcast, he told host Steven Bartlett: “It feels like someone has taken over my voice box. The voice that used to come out would come out at 300 miles an hour on ‘Soccer Saturday’, motormouth, talking and not even waiting for a breath, just keep going and going. Now when I hear myself or see myself on TV it’s someone else. It’s really strange. Some days the message from the brain to the mouth is really slow and makes it difficult, or some days the words come out different than what you’re trying to say – and that’s even weirder.
“That’s been hard to accept – and is still hard to accept.”

Black filmmakers have been overlooked, says John Boyega

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega thinks black filmmakers have been chronically overlooked.
The 30-year-old actor has been vocal about the issue of inequality over recent years and he’s also been working on projects like Create Next with Converse, which offers funding to young black filmmakers.
Speaking in reference to people who might question the funding, John explained: “We’re talking about diversity and I know that irritates you.
“But maybe that’s because you enjoyed a sea of blonde hair and blue eyes. You’ve enjoyed it for years. You’ve enjoyed it so much, you think, why would they want that? It feels great to be a part of that ferocious, forceful, positive change, and I just love that they have to eat it.
“When we celebrate and empower ourselves, please believe that your position is to mind your business. Me uplifting myself is not against you. We just want the same opportunities.”
John made a speech at the Black Lives Matter protest in London in 2020, after the death of George Floyd in the US.
And the actor admits that it’s had an impact on his career.
He told GQ Hype: “I’ve had actors that I’m close to disagree with what I did that day.
“Some people don’t want to work with me. It’s okay. Hollywood is not one entity.”
Meanwhile, John previously likened starring in a big film franchise to being in a “luxury jail”.
The actor played the role of Finn in the ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy but he’s subsequently been keen to explore other opportunities.
He said: “Being in a big franchise, it’s kind of like luxury jail sometimes for an actor when you want to do something else. Because remember, in a franchise you’re working on one character for many years, which can starve your other muscles.”

Jordan Peele hails Nope cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Peele turned to cutting-edge technology to make ‘Nope’ more visually spectacular.
The 43-year-old director worked with the likes of Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun on his new horror film – but cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema also played a instrumental part in the project.
Jordan explained: “I haven’t wanted to ruin the illusion, but I’ll ruin it for you today.
“The night shots, for the most part, were shot in the day, which is due to a technological and strategic thing that [Hoyte] brought to the table.”
Hoyte visited locations in Agua Dulce, California, before the cameras started rolling, and he concluded that it wasn’t possible to capture the natural beauty of the sky and the stars.
Hoyte told Variety: “There’s no way to photograph this, this feeling of vastness, and grandeur of the sky, which was such a big part of our story. We kind of immediately started thinking ‘How can can we portray exactly that feeling that we have when we were out there in the field?’
“I started very much exploring the technology, how can we do this? How can we photograph in the way eyes see it or the way that we experience it?”
Jordan feels the spectacular nighttime cinematography is “really cool”.
He added: “This thing really pushes film forward, and was difficult and it’s something that I’m excited to work with in the future and continue to push.”
Meanwhile, Daniel Kaluuya recently hailed the people who work behind the camera on a film project.
The acclaimed actor said: “There are so many people that go into making a film – there’s the grips, there’s the camera department, there’s the sound, there’s so much kind of graft.”

Strictly Come Dancing launch postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ launch has been held off due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The star-studded BBC latin and ballroom competition – which is hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly and judged by Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke – will be pushed back to next week due to the 96-year-old monarch being laid to rest on Monday (19.09.2022) at 11am.
According to the Sun newspaper, the first show of the season – which will feature celebs such as comic Ellie Taylor, Bros star Matt Goss, television presenter Helen Skelton and ‘EastEnders’ star James Bye – will air on Friday night (23.09.22) and then the first live show will be broadcast on Saturday, the following day.
This is the latest television event to be delayed by the death of the Queen after last week, the BBC pulled the airing of the finale of ‘Canada’s Drag Race’ on Thursday (08.09.2022), the day Her Majesty died.
The BBC and ITV all week have been amending their schedules to accommodate the period of mourning, such as replacing their usual line up with documentaries and special programmes about the royal family.
The statement announcing her death read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Tributes from across the globe have poured in for Her Majesty – who sat on the throne for more than seven decades – including from world leaders such as US President Joe Biden.
The 79-year-old Commander-in-Chief said in a joint statement with his wife Dr Jill Biden, 71: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She defined an era.
In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her. An enduring admiration for Queen Elizabeth II united people across the Commonwealth. The seven decades of her history-making reign bore witness to an age of unprecedented human advancement and the forward march of human dignity.”

Melissa Barrera thought there was ‘no way’ she would be cast as Carmen

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa Barrera thought there was “no way” she would be cast in ‘Carmen.’
The 32-year-old actress stars in the title role of big screen adaptation of the Frank Wildhorn musical – which is a modern-day reimagining of the classical opera about the love life of a gypsy girl against a military backdrop – but was convinced that director Ben Millepied “hated” her upon their first meeting.
She said: “Our first meeting was super interesting. I already knew of Benjamin’s work. I knew he had choreographed Black Swan and I had Googled him, and I knew his talent as a choreographer. And when I met him, we were sitting at a picnic table outside of [L.A. Dance Project] and we just talked about the script. He had sent me the script with some of the music and pictures and inspiration, a very complete package, and I was like, ‘This is incredible. I would be so lucky to be able to be a part of this.’
“And so we met and we chatted about the script and I told him all the problems that I had with the script and I was like, ‘He hates me.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way that I’m getting this,’ because this was in 2018. I had done nothing except a season of Vida, so I was like, ‘I’m no one. Literally, I’m no one.’ ”
The ‘Vida’ star went on to explain that although she is not a confident dancer, she eventually decided that she “needed” to be a part of the film following a callback and refused to let the opportunity go.
She told Collider: ” I just got to LA and I just came and I told him all the issues that I have as a Mexican. A story about a Mexican immigrant, it is important that we do it right so I told him all my thoughts and then, he’s so serious. He’s French! So he was so serious. I was like, ‘He hates me. There’s no way I’m getting this.’ I left, I called my team, I was like, ‘He hates me. There’s no way.’ And then they called me, they were like, ‘He wants to see you dance.’ I was like, ‘Well, that’s gonna be a whole other thing because I’m not a dancer’.
“So many things changed and the one constant was that I knew that I needed to be a part of this movie. You know, you just get this gut feeling? I knew that whatever Benjamin was gonna do was gonna be something incredible and magical, just because I had seen him work. I had already started working with him in dance and I was like, ‘I just can’t let this go!'”
‘Carmen’ had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11.

Madelaine Petsch to star in The Strangers remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Madelaine Petsch is to star in a remake of ‘The Strangers’.
The ‘Riverdale’ actress has joined the cast of the Lionsgate film, a reboot of the 2008 horror movie.
Petsch shared an article confirming the news on Instagram, and wrote in the caption: “me x 3 [knife, axe and blood emojis]”
According to Deadline, Froy Gutierrez and Gabriel Basso have also signed up for the motion picture, which has started production in Slovakia.
The movie will be the first in a trilogy, and Renny Harlin will direct all three.
Harlin said: “My mother instilled the love of movies in me through the world of Hitchcock and other masters of suspense and horror.
“My breakthrough to Hollywood happened with the success of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 4’.
“It is only fitting that I get to return to my favourite genre with the incredibly well written trilogy of ‘The Strangers’.
“The characters and the storyline are all grounded in reality and offer me an endless tapestry of haunting visuals in bringing these movies alive.”
The film will tell the story of Petsch’s character, whose car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, while travelling cross-country with her boyfriend, who will be portrayed by Gutierrez.
Following the breakdown, the couple spend the night in a secluded rental home, but they are terrorised by three masked strangers.
Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland have penned the first of the hat-trick of films.
Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Charlie Dombeck, and Alastair Birlingham will produce the movie.
Solomon said: “When setting out to remake ‘The Strangers’, we felt there was a bigger story to be told, which could be as powerful, chilling, and terrifying as the original and could really expand that world.
“Shooting this story as a trilogy allows us to create a hyperreal and terrifying character study.
“We’re fortunate to be joining forces with Madelaine Petsch, an amazing talent whose character is the driving force of this story.”
