Saoirse Ronan to star in Steve McQueen’s Blitz film

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan is to star in Sir Steve McQueen’s new movie ‘Blitz’.
The 28-year-old actress will lead the cast of the Apple TV+ World War II film, which will be written, directed and produced by the filmmaker.
According to Variety, it’s not yet known who Ronan will portray, but she is due to appear alongside an “unknown newcomer” who hasn’t been announced.
The movie is expected to start shooting later this year, and it will tell the story of a group of Londoners during the infamous Blitz, a German bombing campaign against the UK in 1940 and 1941 when the Luftwaffe conducted mass air attacks.
In November, it was revealed McQueen’s new film will be titled ‘Blitz’, and that the director will team up with New Regency for the project, which is based on his original idea.
McQueen will be producing the movie for his Lammas Park banner along with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title Films.
The filmmaker will be reunited with New Regency after he made ’12 Years a Slave’ – which claimed the Academy Award for Best Picture – and ‘Widows’ with the production company.
He said: “The team at New Regency have been wonderful partners to me over the years. I’m thrilled to work with Arnon, Yariv, and Michael again and am very excited to join forces with Tim and Eric at Working Title Films.”

Nick Frost and Lena Headey cast in Svalta

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Frost and Lena Headey are to star in ‘Svalta’.
The pair have been cast in the lead roles in the comedic thriller and will reunite after working together on the 2019 wrestling film ‘Fighting with My Family’.
The project is scheduled to shoot in Finland next year and follows a family on their summer holiday to a remote island with a dark past. They discover that a serial killer is on the loose but find that hostile locals have no interest in helping them.
Nick, 50, has written the script for the movie with Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil directing.

“After working with Lena in ‘Fighting with My Family’ I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the world I’d want to play Susan. So I was absolutely thrilled when I heard she’d not only read the script but she actually liked it enough to do me the great honour of saying yes and once again being my on-screen wife.”
Meanwhile, Lena stripped off in the recent movie ‘Nine Bullets’ and admits she enjoyed being in the buff in the picture.

James Bye feeling ‘added pressure’ on Strictly after last 3 EastEnders stars made final

OHMYGOSSIP — James Bye says there is “added pressure” on his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ stint because the last three of his ‘EastEnders’ co-stars competing on the show have made the final.
The 38-year-old star – who plays Martin Fowler on the BBC One soap – isn’t aiming to win the upcoming 20th series just yet, but admitted he has big shoes to fill on the dance floor after Rose Ayling-Ellis (Frankie Lewis) won last year’s ‘Strictly’, and Maisie Smith (Tiffany Butcher) and Emma Barton (Honey Mitchell) reached the final in the 18th and 17th series respectively.
Asked if he has his eye on winning the Glitterball trophy, he said: “At the moment, not really. I’m just in it to have as much fun as possible.
“I’d love to get to Blackpool, then you can say you really gave it a good go. There is also the added pressure that the last three people from EastEnders have been in the final!”
James admits he was “really proud” of his best pal and former ‘EastEnders’ star Davood Ghadami (Kush Kazemi) when he saw him competing on ‘Strictly’, and was so impressed watching Jake Wood (Max Branning) and Rose flourish on the programme.
He said: “My best friend, Davood Ghadami was on the show years ago, and I came to watch and he was great. I remember him doing the Paso Doble and that did look good. At the time I wound him up about it, but I was really proud of him.
“Also Jake Wood, when he did the snake hips to ‘Mambo No. 5’, that was a million miles from Max Branning.
“I’m aware I’ve kept this very EastEnders focused, but I can’t not mention our reigning champion Rose from last series, when the music dropped I think she brought the nation to tears. It was beautiful and she is such an incredible human being.”
James has also been inundated with ‘Strictly’ advice from several of his ‘EastEnders’ co-stars, including Brian Conley (Tom “Rocky” Cotton), who told him to “just go with it” throughout the series.
He said: “When I was announced I had lots of people calling me, Brian Conley, Tameka Empson and obviously Davood.
“The advice to be honest, was pretty much the same and it was just enjoy yourself and embrace it.
“It’s completely different to anything else. I think Brian’s words were, ‘You’re never going to have an experience like it, so just don’t miss a beat, just go with it,’ and I’m really going to hold on to that.”

She said: “I got a shaving rash once and I had to call the medic. It was so itchy. I usually get a sugar wax, couldn’t get that out there, so I had to shave every day.
“One day I got a bit shaving happy – I just shaved everywhere. Even the cheeks.

Strictly’s Kym Marsh: I’m in my worst shape for 5 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh is in the “worst shape” she’s been in for the past five years.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star will find out her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro partner in tonight’s (23.09.22) launch episode of the 20th series of the BBC show, but admits she hasn’t been to the gym as much as she would’ve liked in the last few years due to a number of injuries.
Kym – who is married to Army Major Scott Ratcliff – said: “I was plagued with quite a lot of injuries last year, I’m someone who generally likes to go to the gym and this is probably the worst shape I’ve been in, in the last five years.
“So my exercise regime has not been as good as it would normally be but I ran the Manchester 10k in May, so that was the beginning of my journey and then since I agreed to do this, I’ve been trying to get back in the gym.
“My husband’s great, he’s really helpful and helps me train quite a lot!”
The star is looking forward to all the spray tans that come with being a ‘Strictly’ contestant, but she isn’t sure how ‘Waterloo Road’ bosses will feel when she rocks up for filming looking more bronzed than usual.
When asked how she feels about being ‘Strictly-fied’, she replied: “Oh, I can’t wait. I’m very excited.
“I’ve been told about spray tans, I’m not sure what ‘Waterloo Road’ will think of me being sprayed every single week but they’ll just have to cope with it.
“I’m really looking forward to it and I think that’s one of the things about Strictly, apart from obviously the dancing and how wonderful that is, the glamour and the glitz of it all is always going to be something that people love and I’ll definitely enjoy that side of it.”

Coronation Street’s Kelly Neelan in danger as revenge plot backfires

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Kelly Neelan’s revenge plot is to come to a potentially deadly end.
The long-running ITV soap has shared a still from Friday’s upcoming episode (23.09.22), on which the character – who is played by Millie Gibson – is standing on a rooftop after she decides to save Gary Windass (Mikey North).
The snaps tease the conclusion to Kelly’s scheme to get gangster Kieron to bump off Gary for £10,000 after she uncovered he was responsible for the killing of her father. But following a change of heart, she desperately attempts to stop her plan.
Things were left on a cliffhanger on Wednesday (21.09.22) with Rick’s former henchman holding all the power in the situation.
Kieron reveals his intention to kill Kelly and make it look like she has murdered Gary in an apparent murder-suicide.
However, as a bullet is heard being fired, viewers are left unaware who may have been hit.
Millie – who is leaving the cobbles after playing the character since she was 14 – wants to “stay grounded”, and has set her sights on a period drama as she searches for her next role.
The 18-year-old actress said: “I’m currently auditioning so I’m just going to see how that goes.
“I’ve got so many roles in mind. I’m trying to keep myself grounded but at the same time I need to bet on myself, if that makes sense. I really like dramas, I’d love to do a drama again. A period drama would be incredible – I’d have to take my lashes off!”
The star would find it “incredible” to have a “quarter” of the careers of her fellow ‘Corrie’ alums Suranne Jones, Katherine Kelly and Michelle Keegan.

Barry Jenkins promises ‘familiar faces’ in Mufasa: The Lion King

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Jenkins has teased that ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ will have “a ton of familiar faces”.
The 42-year-old director is helming the prequel to ‘The Lion King’ – which is slated for release in 2024 – and revealed that fans will get a glimpse into the past of the characters from the beloved film, which first hit screens in 1994 before a live-action remake was released in 2019.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Barry said: “I think you’ll see a ton of familiar faces.
“It is a prequel, but again, it’s a prequel in the sense that these are all the same characters, but we’re telling you how they came to be who they are. So we’re literally going backward. We’re going back in time with many of these characters. We’re in the present, as well, but we’re also going back to tell who these characters were.”
The ‘Moonlight’ director also promised fans that spectacular “musical numbers” will be featured in the film.
He said: “Please expect musical numbers. Really wonderful musical numbers, I’d say.”
Barry praised screenwriter Jeff Nathanson for bringing the story of a young Mufasa, who will be voiced by Aaron Pierre, to life.
The filmmaker explained: “Mufasa is the king, the greatest king of the Pride Lands, and you assume he got that way just because he is.
“And I thought the studio and Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the script, did a great job of really exploring how people become great, how people become great, how people come to be these mythic figures we look up to.”
Barry previously revealed that he was convinced to direct the prequel after reading the script.
He said: “I read the script and about 40 pages in, I turned to Lulu (Wang) and I said, ‘Holy s***, this is good.’
“And as I kept reading, I got further away from the side of my brain that said, ‘Oh, a filmmaker like you doesn’t make a film like this,’ and allowed myself to get to the place where these characters, this story, is amazing.”

Barbara Broccoli wants to cast villain before deciding on next James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are focused on finding a Bond villain before deciding on the new 007.
The producers are leading the search to replace Daniel Craig as the iconic spy after he bowed out in ‘No Time To Die’ but revealed that they are looking to cast an antagonist first so they can craft a story for the next movie.
Barbara, 62, told The Hollywood Reporter: “We always sit down with our writers, and we start by thinking about,’What’s the world afraid of?’ We start by thinking about, ‘Who’s the Bond villain?’
“We try to focus on that sort of uber story, and then we want to also look at Bond’s emotional life, and what he’ll be facing personally that he hasn’t had to deal with before. So he has two big issues in the films – one is the geopolitical one and the other is the personal one.”
The Bond producers have confirmed that they are looking for an actor to play the spy for the next decade and Broccoli suggested that potential 007’s must be prepared for the role to change their life and need to have a long-term dedication to the part.
She said: “Any actor that would be thinking about this has got to think about how it would change their life.
“Daniel certainly was reluctant when we first approached him and as I say about him, his life changed, but he did not change. He’s always been the same amazingly wonderful human being at the beginning as he is now.”
Broccoli continued: “You become an ambassador for the cinema and people recognise you as being associated with the character. It’s got a lot of different elements to it.
“But the time commitment is certainly a long-term commitment, and not everybody is willing to do that – multiple pictures over many years. Daniel’s done 16 years’ time.”
