Helen Skelton ‘broke down in tears’ before Strictly Come Dancing debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton broke down in tears before her debut performance on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 39-year-old TV presenter is partnered with Gorka Marquez on the new series of the BBC show – but Helen has admitted to being overwhelmed by nerves prior to her first dance.
She shared: “I had a little cry. I’m normally cool, calm and collected.
“I got on the dance floor and they said, ‘When the audience come in…’ and I went, ‘Oh crikey, yeah, there’s people.'”
Helen even tried to make a last-minute escape through a nearby fire exit before she was due to dance.
The former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter also admitted it’s not the first time she’s tried to run away from her fears during her TV career.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Helen explained: “I was like, ‘There’s a fire door, there, I can get out of it,’ and I did.
“Gorka found me and said, ‘What are you doing?’ I said, ‘Just having a minute’. I literally ran. It was like when I did ‘Celeb SAS’, I tried to escape that.”
Despite her fears, Helen eventually took to the dancefloor to perform an American Smooth to ‘You Send Me’ by Aretha Franklin.
The TV star and Gorka earned a respectable score of 26 points out of a possible 40.
Helen subsequently took to social media to heap praise on her dance partner.
She wrote on Instagram: “Credit where it’s due … this one deserves kudos for not only getting me around the dance floor …. But on it in the first place.
“Grateful Mr M. You’re a master at your craft and a belter of a pal. To all the families holding down the fort behind the scenes…. We are grateful.
“Pretty sure I will owe my parents Christmas in the Caribbean by time this is over [heart emoji] (sic)”

Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to direct Final Destination 6

OHMYGOSSIP — Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein will direct ‘Final Destination 6’.
The filmmaking duo have been tapped to helm the relaunch of the horror franchise over a decade on from the release of the fifth movie.
Original producer Craig Perry is returning to produce the new installment with Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
Jon Watts, the director behind Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ films, has crafted the story for the project with Guy Bisick and Lori Evans writing the script.
The core concept of the ‘Final Destination’ series remains – a character has a premonition of a deadly event and is able to save several lives in the process, only to have the unstoppable force of Death to come for the survivors one by one as they are killed in bizarre incidents.
Insiders claim that finding a new director took up much of the year as several filmmakers were interested in the project.
One source said: “It was rare that something big was available and ready for a reboot.”
According to insiders, Lipovsky and Stein impressed movie bosses with their ideas and passion for the ‘Final Destination’ series and an impressive Zoom call sealed the deal for the pair.
The original ‘Final Destination’ film was released in 2000 and was directed by James Wong. The success spawned four sequels as well as a series of novels and comic books.
Tony Todd played the role of William Bludworth in the films and previously suggested that a sixth ‘Final Destination’ movie would be too expensive to make because of the accident scenes.
The 67-year-old star said: “I am [surprised] but I know why there hasn’t been [another sequel]. It’s really an expensive film to shoot. Just getting whatever accident set pieces, like for example part two with the whole traffic accident, that took a good five weeks to shoot and at least 20 million bucks.”

Anton Du Beke: Strictly judging is easier on the knees than dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke finds judging on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ “so much easier on [his] knees” than being a dancer.
The 56-year-old star will return to the panel alongside Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood for the new series, which kicks off on Friday (23.09.22), and while he is enjoying being a judge, he does still get some “dance envy”.
He said: “I’m loving judging on Strictly Come Dancing, it’s incredible. I do watch some of the pros do the numbers and get a bit of dance envy, thinking I wish I could have been a part of that. But judging is so much easier on the knees.”
But Anton insists being on the panel is the “most wonderful thing to be a part of”.
Asked how he feels about returning as a judge, he said: “I’m delighted, elated, excited, proud, thrilled, to be coming back as a judge this year.
“It’s the most wonderful thing to be a part of. I feel honoured to have been on the show since the beginning and to now be on the judging panel.”
Anton joked he would have no problem beating his fellow judges if they had to do a dance off – because he has “more experience” of them from his time as a pro on the BBC Latin and ballroom show.
He said: “I would probably win the dance off. I have more experience in it than the other judges!”
‘Strictly’ will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion there will be 20 pro dancers, which Anton admits will be “amazing, chaotic and incredible”.
He said: “Having 20 pros is going to be amazing, chaotic and incredible! As a choreographer it gives you such opportunity and potential to create some incredible numbers. Visually it’s going to be spectacular.
“Those new four dancers are all brilliant and bring such enthusiasm and excitement, being on Strictly
Come Dancing is a dancer’s dream.”

Jonathan Bailey to star in Wicked movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Bailey has been cast in the ‘Wicked’ movies as Fiyero.
The 34-year-old actor is to star alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the two-part movie adaptation of the hit musical, which serves as a prequel to ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
The ‘Bridgerton’ star’s casting in the film was confirmed on social media by director Jon M. Chu.
The filmmaker tweeted: “He’s perfect, they’re perfect. They’d be perfect together. Born to be forever… I am too excited to pretend this hasn’t been happening. We have a Fiyero!!!! #JonathanBailey #Wicked (sic)”
The ‘Wicked’ films are slated for release at Christmas 2024 and 2025 respectively and will be led by Ariana as Glinda the Good Witch and Cynthia as the Wicked Witch of the West.
Chu explained that making two movies would add depth to the story.
The 42-year-old director said: “We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two!
“With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.”
Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music and lyrics for the original Broadway show, is adapting the screenplay for ‘Wicked’ with Winnie Holzman.
The musical first opened on Broadway in 2003 and continues to run to this day. It has earned over $1 billion and is the second-highest-grossing Broadway musical of all time.
Cynthia revealed that she was “excited” that the story will be split into two parts.
The 35-year-old star said: “I was like, ‘Well alright then, I guess we’ve got our work set ahead of us.’ It’s full on.
“And kind of exciting, because it means that we have more of the story to tell — more room, more real estate to tell these two stories.”

Original Beverly Hills Cop stars return for new film

OHMYGOSSIP — A number of original ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ cast members are returning for the new sequel.
Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot have signed up to reunite with Eddie Murphy in ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley’, the long-awaited fourth movie in the action comedy series.
Reinhold and Ashton are reprising their roles as police officers Billy Rosewood and John Taggart – the sidekick cops to Murphy’s Axel Foley.
Reiser starred as Foley’s Detroit cop partner Jeffrey Friedman in the first two films and Pinchot was the sassy art gallery salesman Serge.
Mark Molloy is directing the film from a screenplay by Will Beall. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah had been on board but left the project to direct the shelved ‘Batgirl’ flick.
The new ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ picture will be released on Netflix with Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman and Melissa Reid producing with Murphy for Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
The original movie was released in 1984 and saw Eddie star as a Detroit police officer who goes to Beverly Hills to solve the murder of his best friend. Sequels followed in 1987 and 1994.
The storyline for the new film has not been disclosed but the movie has started production. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige are both set to appear in the project.
Eddie had previously suggested that he would only return to the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ franchise if the script was right.
The 61-year-old star said: “They’ve been trying to make another ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ for 15 years now.
“Right now, Netflix has it, and they’re trying to develop a script. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing next. But, I’m not doing nothing until the script is right.”

Prue Leith nearly killed 30 people due to badly cooked chicken

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Prue Leith almost killed 30 people with a badly cooked chicken.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ star – who is known for her incredible talents in the kitchen – has revealed 28 people were hospitalised and one man left in critical care after her company Leith’s Good Food botched a catering job for a city firm.
Speaking in Bath’s Rondo Theatre on her ‘Nothing In Moderation’ tour, she recalled: “You can’t be in catering for 30 years without something going disastrously wrong.
“What you don’t want to do is to poison your best customers.”
The 82-year-old star revealed her company had been tasked with making chicken mayonnaise for 25 guests, while another five people were added to the list the next day.
She explained: “The cooks poached another chicken while the flesh was still warm, which is a crime, and they mixed with the chicken that was already there.
“And when it got to the offices they had no refrigeration, and it was a very hot day. This chicken sat there and lunch was very late and we managed to poison everybody.”
Prue admitted the incident still “haunts” her, with everyone getting ill and almost all of them needing treatment.
She said: “It haunts me that episode as everybody was ill.
“All 30 people but two of them ended up in hospital and one of them was in critical care as he was very old and was a High Court judge.
“He could have ended up in the morgue and not in hospital. That was a wake-up call.”
However, Prue insisted the most embarrassing moment of her career wasn’t the catering disaster, but actually the moment she congratulated ‘Bake Off’ winner Sophie Faldo in 2017 – her first year on the show – hours before it went on air due to a misunderstanding with time zones.
She added: “My greatest embarrassment was tweeting the ‘Bake Off’ winner. I can’t believe I did it.”

Alan Partridge podcast back for 2nd series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast’ has returned with a second series.
The iconic comedy character – who is played by comedian Steve Coogan – is back for 11 episodes dealing with topics ranging from novel-writing and swimming, to dating and potholing.
Audible confirms: “In exchange for a series of payments from Audible, he promises an access-all-areas pass to the nooks and crannies of his hinterland, to reveal a wiser, cleverer, more reflective Alan than many of his more vaunted peers have given him credit for.
“He then sends the resultant podcasts to Audible ensuring they meet the technical specifications laid down in the contract.”
The first episode – ‘The Alan Patridge Guide to Making Connections’ – is live now and includes 10 tips for those trying to master the art of networking.
The second series was announced in May, and Alan teased fans about what to expect from the upcoming run.
He said: “When it comes to podcasting I was a late adopter. I believed – like millions of others – that the future of broadcasting lay in hologram technology.
“Over a decade later and with Peartree Holograms now dissolved, I can see that I backed the wrong horse, just as I had with Betamax.
“Now, I have thrown my all into podcasting and am pleased to be considered one of finest podcasters of all time. My new series will cement that legacy.”
Alan previously explained how his podcast differs from alternative shows.
The comedy character – who has also appeared in TV shows, a movie and written books – shared: “Format is the death of chat. Podcasts are strangled by format – talk about your favourite meal, tell us about the adverts you enjoy, tell us about the last time you cried, watch ‘Doctor Who’ with me.
“Mine is different. I just yank back the curtain, drop the facade, peel back the warm hood of celebrity and reveal the real me, the raw me, the true me. A be-cardiganed, cuppa-tea-swigging, pair-of-slippers kind of Alan.”
An Audible Original, ‘From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast’ series two, has been written by Steve Coogan, Rob and Neil Gibbons and produced by Baby Cow for Audible. Available now exclusively on Audible at www.audible.co.uk/alanpartridgereturns.

Shirley Ballas recalls her most memorable Strictly Come Dancing contestants

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas has told ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestants they don’t always have to be the most “gifted” and “experienced” to have the best journey on the show.
The Latin and ballroom series returns on Friday (23.09.22) – after the launch show was delayed following Queen Elizabeth’s death – before the first live show airs on Saturday (24.09.22), and head judge Shirley has recalled some of her favourite-ever contestants were politicians Ann Widdecombe and Ed Balls, because they gave “100 per cent” even when they were “scoring low scores”.
Asked if she has a stand out celebrity dancer from a previous series, she said: “Ann Widdecombe with her Samba, it was just iconic.
“I also loved Ed Balls when he did ‘Gangnam Style’.
“I want people to understand that it’s not always the best dancer that delivers the entertainment factor, which is extremely important in this show. Yes, it’s great to have talent and be coordinated, but I love the journey for those who cannot dance.
“I loved Ann and Ed for their banter, and they gave it their full one hundred percent even when they were scoring low scores.
“Sometimes the journey can be found in the not so gifted and not so experienced.”
Shirley’s fellow judge, Craig Revel Horwood, has also recalled some memorable “banter” he had with politician Ann, who finished sixth on the show’s eighth series in 2010.
Quizzed on whether there are any remarks he has made to contestants that have stayed with him over the years, he said: “Ann Widdecombe springs to mind, because we had banter, which I absolutely loved.
“There was also Quentin Wilson who I branded as Britain’s worst dancer.”

Nathan Graham ‘quits Coronation Street’ after three years

OHMYGOSSIP — Nathan Graham has reportedly quit ‘Coronation Street’.
The actor – who has played James Bailey on the cobbles since 2019 – is set to leave the ITV soap with his final scenes set to be broadcast in the coming weeks, after his character recently suffered a heart attack which has put his football career in jeopardy.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “James will have to choose between his love of his footballing career and his health.
“His exit will see him leave behind Weatherfield for a new start away from the street.”
However, there’s a chance he could return in the future, with his on-screen family still set to feature heavily.
The source said: “James’ family are still on the cobbles and he will only be a train ride away so it may not be the last viewers have seen of him.”
Meanwhile, Nathan’s exit comes as the Bailey family will be getting a new addition on the cobbles with Dee-Dee – played by Channique Sterling-Brown – set to appear in Weatherfield.
The daughter of Ed and Aggie is set to make a big impact, and show boss Iain MacLeod recently opened up about what fans can expect.
He said: “She’s just a complete shot in the arm. She’s so full of energy and vibrance and she’s just great. So I’m really, really excited to see her crash land into that family.
“Loads of fun stuff to play with her being the apple of her mum’s eye, you’ve got sibling rivalry with the boys. And she’s also not that au fait with children.
“So she’s got a very comedic relationship with her niece Glory (Eleanor Beckles), because she doesn’t really know what to do with kids and treats them a bit like they’re one of her clients or that maybe they’re on trial. She’s just this lovely, bighearted injection of energy in the middle of that family.”

Will Mellor suffering with knee pain days before Strictly Come Dancing launch

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor has suffered a knee injury before the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ launch show.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actor is set to take part in the upcoming series of the BBC’s Latin and ballroom competition, but he’s in some pain during rehearsals.
In a video showing him icing his knee with a bag of frozen peas, he said: “Just in rehearsal for Strictly. Will’s knees sponsored by peas. I’m knackered.”
Alongside the clip, he wrote: “In rehearsal for @bbcstrictly!! My knees are in shock!! #tooldforthis #strictlycomedancing #dancing #badknees #shattered. (sic)
Fans were quick to throw their support behind the 46-year-old star with the series set to start on Friday (23.09.22), before the first live episode of the series on Saturday (24.09.22).
One fan wrote: “I cannot wait to see you and the rest of the cast this year! I’ve never watched it before but this line up is TV Gold.. hope the knee feels better x (sic)”
Another added: “Keep going Will x”
And a third fan couldn’t help but joke: “You’re the peas knees!! Keep going pal!! (sic)”
The ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’ actor has a history of knee trouble going back over a decade, and he previously admitted he is worried he might suffer a nasty injury on air.
He said: “I don’t want to get injured. I’ve got bad knees and football injuries, operations and stuff. I’m having to ice them every night.
“If they pop out in the middle of a dance routine live on telly, there’s not much I can do because I will just hit the floor, and they do.
“They’ve popped out while I’ve been walking down the stairs before now. I can pop it back in, but at that moment, I have no strength in the leg.”
Will has also revealed how the death of his dad Bill in 2020 – which came just two weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer – changed his outlook on life and led to him appearing on ‘Strictly’.
He explained: “I’m going to say yes to more stuff. I’ve got to grab life and create memories. Because that’s what you end up in life – with memories.
“And it’s my mum’s favourite show and she’s had the worst time of it, so I thought we’ve got to have a bit of positive in our lives.”

Mel Gibson hopes to film Lethal Weapon 5 in early 2023

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel Gibson hopes that ‘Lethal Weapon 5’ begins filming in early 2023.
The 66-year-old star will reprise his role as LA police officer Martin Riggs as the buddy cop franchise returns and revealed that he has worked on the script with Richard Wenk ahead of the movie.
Mel – who will direct the project after the death of original helmer Richard Donner last year – told Screen Rant: “It’s (coming along) great, we’ve got a really good screenplay that I developed.
“Well, Donner developed it, Richard Donner, of course, developed it with Richard Wenk, and they had a really good template. I had the honour of sitting down, after Richard passed away, with the writer and doing a couple more drafts and trying to do it in the spirit of what we thought Donner might (want), because I knew the guy so well.
“We tried to get that flavour, and we were pretty happy with what we came up with.”
Mel revealed that the changes behind-the-scenes at Warner Bros. have led to delays on the new ‘Lethal Weapon’ project, which will also see Danny Glover return as cop Roger Murtaugh.
The ‘Braveheart’ star said: “The only delay is now with all the shake-up at Warners, with Discovery coming in and the new boss, and they chop everyone else up and throw them away and get new people.
“It always takes time for these companies to regroup, so that’s been a delay, but I’m pretty confident we’ll get this one up on its feet, probably shoot it in the first quarter of the New Year.”

Bette Midler was thrilled to return for Hocus Pocus sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Bette Midler says it was a “real thrill” to star in ‘Hocus Pocus 2’.
The 76-year-old star reprises her role as witch Winnie Sanderson in the supernatural comedy sequel and instantly reconnected with co-stars Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker, who play her on-screen sisters Mary and Sarah respectively, almost 30 years after the original film.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Bette said: “As soon as we walked on the set, the dynamic between the three of us was exactly the same as it was 30 years ago.
“It was like these characters lived with us for the last 30 years… It was a real thrill.”
Sam Richardson has joined the new film as the character Gilbert and lavished praise on the movie’s leading trio of witches.
The ‘Veep’ star said: “It was incredible. All the ladies are back for ‘Hocus Pocus 2’. They truly haven’t missed a step. And it was so incredible to be in the movie and watch them putting the old hats back on and being those old characters, the sisters. It was so much fun.”
Anne Fletcher has directed the film and revealed that she found it “daunting” to be at the helm for the follow-up to the 1993 classic.
The 56-year-old filmmaker said: “It’s a daunting task to take on something like this with the fandom, because you don’t want to blow it.
“It is very scary, I’ve never done a sequel.”
Anne agreed to direct the movie as it features the backstories of the Sanderson sisters.
She said: “The opening of our movie is a prologue to our young witches – and that is the reason I took the movie because I’m very, very much about backstories and truth and grounding.
“Those are the things that I love the most – within the grounding you can be silly and stupid, and over the top and crazy.
“But now the fans get a little peek into the earlier years of our witches.
“Which to me is a blast.
“So I took the movie for that particular reason.”

Lisa Snowdon ‘blown away’ as she’s crowned Celebrity MasterChef 2022 winner

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Snowdon was “blown away” when she was crowned winner of ‘Celebrity Masterchef 2022.’
The 50-year-old TV star was taking part in the celebrity version of the BBC cookery programme against the likes of All Saints star Melanie Blatt and McFly’s Danny Jones but claimed the trophy in the final aired on Thursday (22.09.22) after impressing judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with her “daring” menu.
Upon her victory, she said: “I’m honestly so blown away. It’s such a life-changing experience. I feel like this isn’t real! I just can’t believe it. I couldn’t have wanted to win something that meant more to me than this. I am on cloud nine. I love it.”
The former ‘Capital Breakfast’ host managed to scoop the champion title with a three-course dinner comprising a starter of poached rhubarb and pan-fried mackerel with a fennel slaw; a main course of pan-fried duck breast with mushrooms and chocolate tart with crème fraiche and sour cherries for dessert.
John went on to heap praise on Lisa, noting that “throughout” the whole competition, she had managed to turn everyday menu items into something “special” and took a gamble in the final which paid off.
Speaking on ‘Celebrity Masterchef’, he said: “Lisa, throughout this competition, has taken the everyday and elevated it into something special. This final she dared to do something that was going to be a gamble, and the gamble paid off. Her food is fantastic.”
Fellow judge Gregg added that Lisa is not made up of a “faint heart” and explained that is why she triumphed in the show.
He said: “Faint heart never lifts a MasterChef title and that is why Lisa is our Celebrity MasterChef champion!”

Helen Skelton signed up for Strictly to ‘do something fun’ after marriage split

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ to “do something fun” and so her family could see her “smiling” after the breakdown of her marriage.
The 39-year-old TV presenter was left devastated after her marriage to husband Richie Myler crumbled in April just four months after she gave birth to the couple’s third child – but Helen bounced back from the heartache by signing up for the BBC’s top talent show and she’s now revealed why she decided the time was right to hit the dancefloor.
She said of her decision to join ‘Strictly’: “I just wanted to do something fun. It was a good chance for my family to see me smiling and it’s a fun adventure.
The new series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC1 on Friday September 23 at 7pm.
“Anybody who’s had anything to do with Strictly will say, the make-up people are the best, the costume people are the best, the set designers are the best, the dancers are the best.
“So why wouldn’t you want to do something where everyone is literally at the top of their game and loving what they do?”
Helen is now busy juggling her training for the show with caring for her three children and renovating her home and she has admitted it feels like her days back on kids’ show ‘Blue Peter’ when the series took over her life.
She went on: “I have three children under seven, a very energetic dog and have lived in a house renovation for the best part of three years, so Strictly-fy me up please.
“It takes me back to my Blue Peter days, it was an all-consuming show where every minute of the day you were doing something for it. You’d get into the office having been away for three weeks and someone had been round to your house to pack your bags to go on your next trip.”
Helen concluded by saying: “I feel like this will be all consuming as well, but I’ve lived that life before and I naively think I might be ready for it.”

John Boyega has come up with sequel idea for The Woman King

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega has come up with an idea for a sequel to his new movie ‘The Woman King’.
The ‘Star Wars’ actor is among the castmembers of the new film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, and while the moviemaker has previously stated she’s not a fan of follow-ups, John has pitched a suggestion which could be used to bring the story back for another outing.
John’s co-star Thuso Mbedu has revealed she was so excited about the idea, she passed it on to Gina who declared she liked it. Speaking at the Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program event on Thursday (22.09.22), Thuso told Variety: “I texted Gina the other day about it. Gina said she doesn’t believe in sequels, but John had a nice idea for the sequel … I told it to Gina and she was like, ‘Ah, actually that could work,’ and then started bouncing ideas and I’m like, ‘Gina, go to sleep!’ And she was like, ‘No my mind is ticking already’.”
She went on to add the plan for a sequel is still up in the air and it will be up to the studio to decide whether to move forward with it.
Thuso added: “So, we don’t know. Only Sony will tell us.”
‘The Woman King’ tells the story of a group of female warriors who guarded the West African region of Dahomey back in the 1820s with John playing King Ghezo – and his idea for a sequel is based around the darker side of his character – possibly touching on the real life king’s links to the slave trade.
Thuso explained: “John’s idea is amazing … Basically, to go back to the history of the Dahomey – where he isn’t really a favourable king in real history. He would want us to touch on that in the second one. What if we see him as more of a villain? That type of situation. And I was like, ‘That’s nice!’ It would be cool to see him in a different light.”
