Shirly Ballas left ‘absolutely mortified’ by Strictly Come Dancing elimination

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas was “absolutely mortified” by the latest ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ elimination.
Over the weekend, Kaye Adams and her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington became the first couple to leave the BBC Latin and ballroom competition after losing out to Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova in the dreaded dance off.
Appearing on ‘The One Show’ on Wednesday (05.10.22), Shirley admitted she didn’t agree after her fellow judges Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood opted to save Bros singer Matt.
She said: “I just felt on the evening both couples made mistakes but the quality of Kaye was by far superior on that evening and I was absolutely mortified that she left, to be quite honest.
“I love my fellow judges and we’re all there to do a job, but in my opinion, that was one they didn’t quite get right.”
However, she insisted the judges never seriously clash over any disagreements they may have on the show, and there are moments she’s glad they have all agreed so she doesn’t have to cast a deciding vote.
She added: “No, not at all Sometimes I’m just delighted when they can agree and it’s not my job to send someone home.
“But [Kaye] was – she had – the most beautiful, beautiful movement. She was fluid, and I like fluidity, so there you go.”
Meanwhile, Kaye and Kai – who finished joint bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday (01.10.22) with 22 points out of 40 for their Charleston – have since admitted they knew they were in for a tough night.
Kaye said: “I thought the judges’ comments were fair, I really didn’t have a problem with them at all. There’s so many wonderful dancers there, Molly’s dance at the end I just thought was fabulous… I put my hands up and say well done.”

Ben Elton hosting Friday Night Live revival

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Elton is returning host a revival of ‘Friday Night Live’.
Channel 4 has announced plans to bring back the hit 1980s comedy show “for one night only” as part of the network’s 40th anniversary celebrations, and the 63-year-old comedian will be at the helm alongside other alum of the show including Harry Enfield, Julian Clary and Jo Brand.
In a statement about their ‘Truth of Dare’ series, the publicly-owned broadcaster said: “For one night only, Ben Elton is back as ringmaster to reunite the game-changing architects of anarchy who broke through in the 80s and blend their ground-breaking comedy exploits with today’s trailblazers currently storming the circuit.”
Along with the previous line-up, the one-off special will also showcases new comedy stars like Rosie Jones, Jordan Gray, Ronni Ancona, Mawaan Rizwan and Sam Campbell.
News that the – which originally ran for three years between 1985 to 1988 – is getting a one-off revamp marks just one of the ways Channel 4 is marking its milestone of producing telly that honours its “radical, irreverent and iconoclastic roots”, which date back to 1982.
Other ventures include a Frankie Boyle-fronted documentary about the future of the royal family, a documentary about free speech, titled ‘What is a Woman’ and a musical satire about Prince Andrew, who earlier this year settled a multi-million dollar historic sexual assault case in the US.
In addition, their will be an array of documentaries including Jimmy Carr exploring ‘cancel culture’, one about men who struggle with his penis size and a woman who fled the Taliban, eventually becoming an adult film star.
Programming boss Ian Katz – whose channel has faced a government-led plan to privatise it – called the planned projects “a collection of irreverent, thought-provoking and hugely entertaining shows that no other broadcaster would air”,

Christian Bale will always be grateful for Batman role

OHMYGOSSIP — Christian Bale will always “cherish” the fact that he played Batman.
The 48-year-old actor played the superhero in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy and will always be grateful that he got to fulfil a childhood dream by taking on the famous role.
Christian told the new issue of GQ magazine: “I absolutely know and cherish the fact that that will be the role I’m probably remembered for most, you know. Every reason, iconic, larger-than-life role.
“But I don’t view it really as being stopped in the street. For me it was I could pay off my house. That’s a huge relief. That was a dream of mine since being a kid so, I really appreciate that. I thank Chris Nolan, no end for that.”
Christian explained that his portrayal of ‘Batman’ made it easier for him to land other film roles.
The ‘Amsterdam’ star said: “We went on to make four films together but the fact that that allowed me to make so many other films… it took nearly a herculean effort to get me cast in ‘American Psycho’, post-Batman it got a little bit easier for directors to suggest me and financiers to say, ‘Okay, yeah, we’ll take him.'”
Bale revealed that he is reluctant to embrace leading man status as he finds it “boring”.
He said: “I’ve never considered myself a leading man. It’s just boring. You don’t get the good parts. Even if I play a lead, I pretend I’m playing like, you know, the fourth, fifth character down, because you get more freedom.
“I also don’t really think about the overall effect that (a character’s) going to have. It’s for me to play around, much like animals and children do. Have tunnel vision about what you’re doing, not think about the effect you’re having.”

John Lee Hancock reveals Stephen King had lots of input into Mr. Harrigan’s Phone

OHMYGOSSIP — John Lee Hancock has revealed that Stephen King was “very involved” in the making of ‘Mr. Harrigan’s Phone’.
The 65-year-old filmmaker has written and directed the new horror flick that is based on King’s novella of the same name and was grateful for the acclaimed author’s contributions to the project.
In an interview with Screen Rant, John said: “He wanted to stay out of the way and let me do my thing, but he let me know that he was there for me, and so I started taking advantage of that.
“When I finished the script, we sent it off to Stephen, and it’s like, ‘Oh, I hope he likes it’, because he can give us a thumbs down, and we’re done. But he loved the script. And so from that point on, we had an email and phone relationship that was really, really helpful and great.”
John revealed that the ‘Misery’ writer gave his approval for locations that were used in the film, which has now been released on Netflix.
He explained: “We would be looking at locations, and I could send him something and go, ‘Which one of these two looks like Howie’s Market? Because you made up the name, Howie’s Market, and you had something in your mind’s eye when you wrote it. Which one of these?’
“And he would say, ‘I think the one on the left with the red. I think that feels more like what I was thinking.’ Okay, great. We got Stephen’s approval on this location.”
John explained that he wanted to embrace the “challenge” of bringing King’s work to the big screen.
The ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ director said: “There are a lot of themes, I think, in the novella, which was eighty-something pages.
“And the fact that I thought it was a difficult adaptation and would be a challenge, and also the fact that Stephen King wrote it would be a challenge, because I knew that I would have to activate certain things and build up things to make it a full length movie.”

Rolf Harris is gravely sick with cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Rolf Harris is gravely ill with cancer.
The disgraced entertainer is reportedly unable to talk or eat and requires around-the-clock care after being diagnosed with neck cancer.
Rolf, 92, lives a reclusive life in Berkshire with his wife Alwen Hughes – who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease – following his release from prison in 2017 and his health is believed to have taken worse after his beloved poodle died earlier this year.
The Australian star was a presence on British TV screens for decades but his career in the spotlight ended in disgrace in 2014 as he was found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault against four teenage girls.
Neighbour Portia Wooderson told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: “Only carers and nurses, who care for him 24 hours, come and go. I’m told he can’t eat anymore.”
Author and private investigator William Merritt confirmed that the former ‘Animal Hospital’ star is “gravely sick” but insists that Harris still has a flair for entertainment.
Merritt said: “(He’s) battling a cancer of the neck, and gargles when he talks. It’s difficult to understand him, but he is still the entertainer.
“As soon as one or two people walk into the room, he turns into a big kid again. He’s an artistic type, and he’ll try to perform on cue, even when he’s unwell.”
Harris’ health is believed to deteriorated in recent years and it is understood that he was hospitalised during his time in prison after a diabetes scare.
A neighbour said in 2019: “He’s in poor health and has declined rapidly. He doesn’t come out any more and when he does it’s only ever with his carer.”

Simon Cowell ‘makes 90m in Got Talent franchise deal’

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Cowell is said to have made £90 million thanks to a ‘Got Talent’ deal.
The 62-year-old star has raked in millions ensuring the franchise – which is made in 69 countries – has reach all over the world.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Simon’s decision will give him more time to concentrate on what he enjoys.
“As well as spending time with his family, he loves ‘BGT’ and its US counterpart ‘America’s Got Talent’ and he would like to continue appearing on those, being in front of the camera, for years to come.
“This deal means he will continue to make a fortune from the other versions of ‘Got Talent’ in countries around the globe.”
The deal – which took two years to secure via his production company, Syco Entertainment – is said to be the first of its kind.
Last week, Simon – who has eight-year-old son Eric, with his fiancee Lauren Silverman, 45 – teased he was due to “announce” an exciting project that would launch his professional return.
He said: “I am getting back in the music business with something I’m going to announce soon.”
What’s more, it was revealed in July that ‘X Factor’ boss Simon was in advanced talks with Channel 5 about screening a new series of the talent contest – which ran for 15 series and two spin-offs on ITV from 2004 to 2019 – but last weekend he was said to be in the middle of a bidding war with the two networks.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “After Simon Cowell decided to bring ‘X Factor’ back, he reached advanced talks with Channel 5.
“But now ITV execs have made it very clear they want the show.
“They’re trying to convince Simon to ditch channel 5 and go with them instead.”

Jeremy Paxman’s doctor noticed his Parkinson’s on University Challenge

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Paxman’s doctor noticed his Parkinson’s while he presented ‘University Challenge’.
The ex ‘Newsnight’ anchor revealed he got his diagnosis of the condition – which manifests in tremors, slow movement and immobile muscles – after the specialist noticed he was less “exuberant” and appeared to have what medical professionals label as “Parkinson’s mask” while presenting the BBC Two quiz show.
Speaking about how he ended up in hospital following a fall while walking his dog during ‘Paxman: Putting Up With Parkinson’s’, the 72-year-old broadcaster said: “Well, it was completely out of the blue. I was having a walk in the square across the way. There was ice around and I had the dog with me – the dog was on a lead.
“The first thing I knew was when somebody was sitting me on a bench. I’d fallen over and I made a terrible mess of my face. I’d gone straight down on my hooter, which, as you can see, is not small. Cuts all over the place. I was a real mess. And when I was in A and E, a doctor walked in and said, ‘I think you’ve got Parkinson’s.
“It turned out that he had been watching ‘University Challenge’ and had noticed that my face had acquired what’s known as the ‘Parkinson mask’. I wasn’t as effusive and exuberant as normal. I had no idea.”
Jeremy – who will be replaced by journalist and broadcaster Amol Rajan – felt that people noticed there was something “unusual” after nearly 30 years of presenting the iconic general knowledge quiz.
He said: “I think I’ve been doing ‘University Challenge’ for about 29 years, which is a very, very long time – too long really. I always think that if you’re scared of making a decision, do it.
“The ‘University Challenge’ people have been brilliant but I do think that I ought to stop doing it. I will be sad to give it up, but no-one is indispensable.
“It’ll become obvious that there’s something funny about me – and I mean unusual, not funny funny. So I don’t want to spoil it for them.”

Constance Wu shows her ‘authentic self’ in Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

OHMYGOSSIP — Constance Wu was delighted to show her “authentic self” in ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’.
The 40-year-old actress stars in the movie adaptation of the children’s novel and explained that the flick, as well as her forthcoming memoir ‘Making a Scene’, has allowed her to show her true self to the public.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s world premiere in New York City, Constance said: “I feel really relieved to have what I feel is like a really authentic portrayal of myself out there in the public.
“I feel really glad to have a musical out because that is a portrayal of my authentic self because I am a musical theatre nerd. I always have been.”
Constance formed part of an all-star cast that features Javier Bardem and pop star Shawn Mendes and producer Hutch Parker praised the movie’s stars.
He said: “Constance was great. Javier is amazing. He’s kind of a legend. So that was exciting and remarkable to watch him tackle. He’s never sung or danced in a film like this. I mean, this was a big undertaking, and it’s pretty extraordinary to watch him do his thing.”
The film marks one of Shawn’s first major movie roles and Parker was impressed by the way he handled the transition from pop sensation to film star, while contributing songs to the project’s soundtrack.
The producer explained: “Shawn was remarkable because this is a very different for him.
“It’s a very different process. You spent a lot of time getting him to understand the way in which the songs were working dramatically, but he was a natural. He was excellent.”

Maisie Smith: Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins was best thing for my confidence

OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Smith says ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ was the “the best thing” for her confidence.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star believes the Channel 4 military endurance show – on which she stars in the latest series alongside the likes of Olympian Fatima Whitbread – altered her “outlook” and it has led to a confidence boost.
The 21-year-old actress told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It changed my outlook about myself. It was honestly the best thing I’ve ever done. It got that demon off my shoulder. I went in there with everything I had and I came out feeling like I could literally conquer the world.”
Maisie – who first appeared on Albert Square as Bianca Jackson’s daughter Tiffany Butcher – has felt “certain pressures” throughout her life as a child star, which has made her rethink her abilities as a performer.
She said: “Growing up in the limelight, it does put certain pressures on you. In everything I do I’m quite conscious of myself in many ways, I think.
“Even for my job, for acting, singing, dancing, I’ve always questioned if I’ve got what it takes. I think it is a bit of imposter syndrome.
“When I do a show like this, that was my first thought, am I good enough? Can I do this?”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star says her 5ft height results in her being “underestimated”.
Maisie – who has recently been romantically linked to former The Wanted star Max George, 34 – said: “I’m underestimated because I’m young and small. I think people have certain mindsets of young women in particular. I wanted to show I can go toe to toe with the guys.
“I don’t think you’d ever expect me to actually be the kind of person that would put myself out of my comfort zone and test limits that I didn’t even know I could.
“It felt empowering to prove them wrong.”

Jamie Clayton hopes to reinvent Pinhead

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Clayton wants to reinvent the character of Pinhead.
The 44-year-old actress has been cast as the iconic antagonist in the ‘Hellraiser’ reboot and didn’t want her portrayal to be compared to her male predecessors in the role.
Jamie told Inverse: “I wanted to bring something completely new and fresh to the character. I didn’t want anybody to compare my performance to previous performances, which I think is why they wanted to cast a woman. It takes the burden off the audience because it makes the comparison better.”
The ‘Designated Survivor’ star revealed that she drew from her own personal suffering to prepare for the part.
Jamie said: “I’ve been through a lot of s*** in my life so I really brought all of the torment, the pain, the anguish, the loss, the suffering, the joy, and the sensuality, all through the discussions that I had with David (Bruckner) about what the Priest’s intentions were, why she was doing what she was doing at any given moment, why should we ask a question she was asking.”
The star credited director David Bruckner for helping her to bring out the “nuances” in the villain.
She said: “There were nuances that I wanted to bring out, and David really helped me get there in all the conversations we had.
“We had time on set to play, to do different takes, to try different things. I mean we would do one take, and then another that was a complete 180. I would do one super angry and then do it like she was hungry for sex and blood. So there was time to explore. I stayed in therapy the whole time we were filming. It was dark!”

Amanda Holden confiscates daughter’s tiny tops and wears them herself

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden confiscates her 16-year-old daughter’s tiny tops and wears them herself.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge – who has previously generated some Ofcom complaints for her on-air looks on the ITV talent competition – took a sequined bikini top from her daughter Lexi before she went to a music festival this summer, and the star now intends to wear it.
The 51-year-old star told The Sun newspaper: “There’s this sequinned …  I wouldn’t even call it a bikini top. My daughter’s 16!
“I went, ‘No, you’re not wearing that to Reading Festival, but Mummy can have it.’
“So Mummy’s got it, and waiting for a moment to wear it.”
Amanda felt it was “definitely” not age appropriate but says Lexi – the older sister to Amanda’s youngest daughter Hollie, 10 – can wear it in two years when she turns 18.
She said: “It just about covers the bits up top that you would expect it to cover, but it was definitely not for my daughter. In two years, she can have it back.”
The Tik Tok sensation – who went viral for her outfit breakdown while on holiday in Sicily – revealed her husband, record producer Chris Hughes, 49, is “really encouraging” about her fashion choices.
Amanda said: “My husband is always really encouraging and says, ‘Get your legs out’.”
The Heart Breakfast radio DJ – who co-hosts the show with Jamie Theakston – thinks critics need to “get over” her often-visible nipples and compared herself to the ex ‘Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston.
Amanda said: “Jennifer Aniston has the same problem. We’re very sensitive to weather conditions! But I’m just like, ‘Get over it’.
“It doesn’t seem to matter when you see boys’ nipples, so I just don’t get why it matters when you can see girls’. It’s everyone else that makes the fuss about them.
“But I have no problem with it. They’ve got their own management and they’re insured!”

Ryan Coogler almost quit directing after Chadwick Boseman’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Coogler nearly quit directing after Chadwick Boseman’s death.
The 36-year-old filmmaker has helmed the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ but confessed that he considered walking away from the industry altogether after Chadwick – who led the cast of the first film as T’Challa/Black Panther – tragically passed away from colon cancer in 2020.
Ryan told Entertainment Weekly: “I was at a point when I was like, ‘I’m walking away from this business.’
“I didn’t know if I could make another movie period, (let alone) another ‘Black Panther’ movie, because it hurt a lot. I was like, ‘Man, how could I open myself up to feeling like this again?'”
The director continued: “I was poring over a lot of our conversations that we had, towards when I realised was the end of his life… I decided that it made more sense to keep going.”
Ryan explained that he ultimately decided to direct the sequel as it felt “truthful” to him and he revealed that he considers it the most important quality in terms of making a movie.
He said: “It’s my job as a filmmaker to do things that I have personal integrity with.
“If I don’t believe in what I’m doing, I’m going to have a hard time getting other people to do their best work. For them to do their best work, they have to believe in it.
“At the end of the day, the choices we make have to feel truthful to me. When filmmakers make things that don’t feel truthful to them, you can feel it. And I will argue that those projects don’t have a shot at working.”
Lupita Nyong’o stars in the movie and praised Ryan for making a quality picture in tragic circumstances.
The Oscar-winner said: “It was unfathomable to me. But Ryan managed to honour his life and his role in both the film and our lives with his moving, truthful, and clear vision.”

Taissa Farmiga returns for The Nun 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Taissa Farmiga is returning for ‘The Nun 2’.
The 28-year-old star will reprise her role as Sister Irene in the horror sequel and is set to join ‘Euphoria’ actress Storm Reid in the project.
Michael Chaves will direct the film after helming ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’, the most recent installment in the ‘Conjuring’ horror universe.
‘The Nun’ was a prequel spin-off from ‘The Conjuring 2’ and featured Bonnie Aarons as a demonic nun.
The flick was set in a monastery in 1952 and told the story of a priest and a nun – played by Demian Bichir and Farmiga respectively – attempting to fight the nun’s evil possessions.
The movie became the highest-grossing installment in the ‘Conjuring’ franchise.
Details for the sequel are being kept under wraps but the 1950s setting is expected to remain.
James Wan and Peter Safran are producing via their Atomic Monster and The Safran Company banners. The pair have produced all eight movies in the ‘Conjuring’ universe.
‘The Nun 2’ is slated for release in September 2023 and the movie is expected to begin shooting later this month.
Corin Hardy directed the original 2018 film and revealed that Wan stepped behind the camera as a second unit director.
The filmmaker recalled: “Very excitingly, James Wan was my second unit director in a little bit of additional photography.
“It is funny, but we did some additional photography, and you’re always pushing for double what you really can afford, time – or budget-wise. I said, ‘I want to do all of this, but if we’re going to do it, we really need to run two units.’
“James is a full-on, hands-on guy and he was like, ‘Anything I can do of service!’ It was like, ‘I really want to take you up on that.’ So, there were nights when he was shooting a section in the forest and I was shooting interiors.”

Kaye Adams: Kai Widdrington should be motivational coach

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams says Kai Widdrington should be a motivational coach after getting her through two weeks of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Loose Women’ anchor became the first star of the current 20th series to be eliminated from the BBC One Latin and ballroom show after losing the dance-off on Sunday night (02.10.22), but she has heaped praise on her pro partner.
An emotional Kaye said: “It’s been fantastic it really has, I’m going to cry, it’s been a privilege to meet Kai.
“This man should be a motivational coach, I’ve learned so much from Kai, beyond dancing, from his attitude to competing, coaching and getting me ready for the dance off which I found really difficult. I’ve seen a few people saying ‘she looked like a rabbit in the headlights’ and all I can say is, Yes I was. I blanked. I was tired.”
When asked what he’d like to say to Kaye, Kai said: “Thank you for all the laughs that we had and the endless amount of flat whites that I bought you in the morning, I’m sorry I can’t keep bringing you them.
“I hope you can take away joy, because that was our main thing, that you enjoyed it and had fun.
“I think you can look back with fond memories and be glad that you said yes to do this. I don’t think your dance career is over just yet.”
The pair – who finished joint bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday (01.10.22) with 22 points out of 40 for their Charleston – admitted they knew they were in for a tough night.
Kaye said: “I thought the judges’ comments were fair, I really didn’t have a problem with them at all. There’s so many wonderful dancers there, Molly’s dance at the end I just thought was fabulous … I put my hands up and say well done.”
On being eliminated from the competition, Kai said: “We knew it was going to be a tough night because everyone is upping their game after week one, the standard this year is so good, there’s seven or eight there that could be in the final easily, so we knew it was going to be a tough night and to get through would be difficult.”
When asked what she will miss the most about ‘Strictly’, she said on ‘Strictly: It Takes Two’: “The people, I’m going to miss the people, in a nutshell.”
