Jared Leto to play Karl Lagerfeld in biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto is to play Karl Lagerfeld in a new biopic.
The 50-year-old star will portray the late fashion designer in the movie that he is also set to produce with Emma Ludbrook for their company Paradox.
Jared told Women’s Wear Daily: “I feel like this is a full-circle moment, and Karl would be proud of what we are doing.
“Karl was an artist. Period. He was a fashion designer, he was a photographer, he was an artist. There was no defining him. He was a creative powerhouse.”
The film is still in the early stages of development and a director is not yet attached, although it does come with the backing of the Karl Lagerfeld fashion house.
It is said to chronicle “key relationships in Karl Lagerfeld’s life, told through an unpredictable lens, much like the man himself”.
Jared said: “There are a multitude of relationships to explore. Karl had a career that spanned 50-plus years, so both personally and professionally he was close to a number of people. I can say we are going to home in on key relationships that convey different parts of his life.”
The late German designer was one of the most recognisable figures in the world of fashion and was often accompanied by his cat Choupette. He passed away at the age of 85 in February 2019.
Leto has reportedly brought three of Lagerfeld’s close confidants – including his fashion house chief executive Pier Paolo Righi – to serve as executive producers on the movie.
The ‘Morbius’ star said of the fashion icon: “My role is to portray him on screen as honestly as possible.
“With celebrity, most people don’t get to see under the surface. They see one or two facets of a person as presented through a public lens. Karl was a human being. We all have beauty with us and we all have faults. We have masks and then we have moments when we reveal the mask. I’m always interested in seeing what’s behind the mask.”

Joey Essex wants to be ‘cursed’ on Dancing on Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey Essex has signed up for ‘Dancing on Ice.’
The 32-year-old reality star is the latest to join a list of celebrities taking to the rink on the next series of the ITV skating show when it returns in early 2023 and admitted that while it is a “scary” idea because he has very little experience on the ice, he would still “love to win.”
He said: “I’m so excited! I wanted something in my life that would bring me structure. It’s more serious than what I normally do. I’m not the best skater, I did it when I was maybe like 11. It’s scary, it’s a competition. When I did ‘The Jump’, which was sort of similar, I don’t know how I won that. But again, this is one of those shows that I’m looking at thinking ‘I would love to win.'”
The former ‘TOWIE’ star – who placed fourth on ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ back in 2013 – explained that he had an audition for the show almost a decade ago but was too “immature” back then and feels “ready” to take on the challenge now.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, he added: “When I come out the jungle in 2013,I did an interview with the producers but I was just messing about and was probably a bit more immature then. I like to say I’ve matured! Back then, it wouldn’t have been right for me and I believe that and I think the producers knew that but at this time in my life I am so ready for this. I just know. It’s not an easy thing to do, it’s five and a half months work. I’m already training now. I was in the gym this morning.”
The ‘Celebs Go Dating’ star – who is currently single – added that he wants to be “cursed”, in a nod to the notion that ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestants often fall in love with their professional partners.
He said: “I want to come out and impress myself and do what I can really. That’s what I want to do. I’ll worry once the skating is over – then I’ll look at the judges. I want to be cursed! Is there a curse on this one? I’m single! I’m here to fall in love with the ice.”
Joey is the seventh famous face to be announced for the competition and joins a lineup that includes ‘Drag Race’ contestant The Vivienne, former ‘EastEnders’ actress Patsy Palmer, football legend John Fashanu, ‘Love Island’ star Ekin-Su Culculoglu, Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson and Coronation Street’s Mollie Gallagher.

Carol Vorderman doesn’t believe in having ‘one partner for life’

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Vorderman doesn’t believe in having “one partner for life.”
The former ‘Countdown’ host – who has been married to Patrick King and has children Katie, 31, and Cameron, 25, with him but was also married to Christopher Mather – explained that while she had grown up with the “convention” that she should find one partner and be married by the age of 18 but has “ignored” that idea as she has got older and now has “special friends.”
She said: “I’m nearly 62 now and our mothers told us that we should marry when we were 18 or 19 years of age so we grew up with this convention that we should find one partner for life and all the good fairy tales tell you that they married and lived happily ever after. My view is not quite like that. If people do have a very happy and long marriage, that is wonderful. Congratulations. But the fact is that half of marriages in divorce and almost three-quarters of marriage end in divorce. So I prefer to live my life – and people should speak about it in this way – in chapters. You try to have happy chapters and I think that’s what you’re looking for next. ”
“I have ignored looking for one person. I have special friends. It’s not realistic to expect one person to fulfil all your needs. The younger generation has a much freer approach to sexuality. After sexuality, the second most popular is bisexuality. But my generation couldn’t talk about that. It’s a taboo that particularly applies to women of age 60 plus, we were taught that we should marry who should look after us. Now the vast majority of women work. This is a time to break the nonsense taboo that every person should be looking for one other person that satisfies everything in their life. That’s one hell of a pressure.”
The former ‘Loose Women’ anchor went on to explain that some of her relationships with her “special friends” have lasted longer than her marriage and insisted that marriage is not always “realistic.”
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, she added: “No they don’t know each other, but they know about each other, that’s because these are very honest relationships. One of them has gone on for over 10 years, that’s longer than my marriage. Another has gone on for seven years. I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be happily married people, but that’s not always realistic.”

Louie Spence had sex dream about Emma Bunton

OHMYGOSSIP — Louie Spence once had a dream in which he was having sex with Emma Bunton.
The openly gay TV star, 53, is best friends with the Spice Girls singer, 46 – who tied the knot with Jade Jones in 2021 after more than two decades of dating – so he woke up in shock after the dream, and has joked something must’ve gone “desperately” wrong.
He said: “I had sex with Emma in my dream. I was like ‘S***! There’s something desperately wrong here because she’s one of my best friends and she is the most gorgeous, incredible person.”
The ‘Pineapple Dance Studios’ star – who has been married to Leto Fernandez since 2009 – went on to add that he texted the ‘Say You’ll Be There’ songstress when he woke up to tell her about it, but joked that Jade probably “wouldn’t be bothered” and wished he had been involved in the steamy dream.
Speaking on the ‘Not My Bagg’ podcast, he told ‘Gogglebox’ stars Joe and George Bagg: “I sent her a text saying, ‘Girl, you’ll never believe it, I just had sex with you. I’m sure her husband Jade wouldn’t be bothered. He’s a hunk. He wasn’t involved though, unfortunately.”
The former ‘Dancing on Ice’ judge then went on to reveal that while he doesn’t watch shows like ‘Love Island’ because he understands how they are produced, he will often search for celebrities nude on Google if he fancies them.
He said: “I never watch ‘Love Island.’ I didn’t have a clue who those people were. I didn’t watch it because when you’ve been in TV you know how it’s produced. If I see someone I like, I will Google him. Like [‘Love Island’ runner-up] Andrew Le Page. I’d just Google ‘Andrew Le Page nude’ and save any nude images because I can’t be bothered to wait for him to go on OnlyFans! I just get to see what I want to see and then it’s out the way. I always do that. Any celebrities I like, I just Google it.”

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright love a Chinese takeaway

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright love to gorge on Chinese takeaways when they’re not in the gym.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star and her husband – who tied the knot in 2015 – maintain a “balanced life” together by valuing yummy food and a disciplined exercise regime.
Former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Mark told The Sun newspaper: “She loves a Chinese takeaway and a curry. We both have a very balanced life and we both work hard in the gym and stay healthy.
“I try to be as healthy as I can and live a balanced life.
“But at the weekend if you want to have a takeaway or eat some junk food do it because you need that balance in your life.”
Ex-‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star Mark – who completed the London Marathon last week with a finishing time of 3 hours and 45 minutes – doesn’t think the ‘Our Girl’ actress would “ever” take part in the mammoth 26.2-mile run.
He said: “I don’t think she’ll ever do it, she doesn’t love to run.”
Michelle has previously admitted she doesn’t feel “guilty” when she indulges because she earns it.
She said: “I never feel guilty when I eat cheat because if I’ve been strict all week, I feel like I deserve it.
“I only set myself a target to spend 45 minutes in the gym and then I’m done.”
What’s more, the ‘Brassic’ actress revealed her vice of “snacking at night” leads to her feeling bloated in the mornings.
She said: “I’m quite bad at snacking at night, so I am quite full from the night before, if I’m being honest.”

Jon Landau says work has started on Avatar 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Landau has revealed that work has already started on ‘Avatar 4’.
The 62-year-old producer has collaborated with director James Cameron on the sci-fi franchise and says that production has already begun on the fourth movie, which is not slated for release until 2026.
Jon told Variety: “We’ve completed most of the first act of ‘Avatar 4’ and there were logistical reasons why we needed to do that. We’ve designed most of the whole movie for ‘Avatar 4’ but we haven’t actually filmed all of it – just the first act.”
‘Avatar’ broke box office records when it was released in 2009 and a long-awaited sequel, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, is set to hit cinemas in December. Jon explained that technological advances needed to be made before a sequel could come to fruition.
He told the media at the Busan International Film Festival: “We could not have delivered what people saw, five years ago, eight years ago, nine years ago. We needed the time to take it to the level that we’re able to deliver to people today.”
Four ‘Avatar’ sequels are in the pipeline and Jon revealed that each movie will introduce a new culture, while retaining those featured in previous films.
The producer, whose other credits include ‘Titanic’ and ‘Solaris’, said: “With each sequel, we’re going to introduce audiences to new cultures and new biomes. We don’t leave behind the cultures that we’ve met.”
Landau discussed how inclusivity is an important part of the ‘Avatar’ franchise as the protagonists in ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ are refugees.
He said: “As filmmakers, we have a responsibility to use our art form to challenge people to see things differently.
“And science fiction allows us the opportunity to be a metaphor for the world in which we live without preaching about it. Because if you preach, you only reach those who are already converted.”

Tom Cruise to perform spacewalk stunt for new blockbuster

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise is set to do a spacewalk for his new film.
The ‘Top Gun’ star is set to be blasted into space for an upcoming Universal blockbuster and the studio’s chairwoman Dame Donna Langley has revealed how Cruise will make history for the movie.
She told the BBC: “We have a great project in development with Tom that does contemplate him taking a rocket to the Space Station.
“And hopefully he will become the first civilian to do a space walk outside of the International Space Station. He will play a down-on-his-luck guy who finds himself in the position of being the only person who could save Earth.”
Plans for the movie first emerged in 2020 with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA both involved in the project.
Doug Liman is set to direct the film and revealed last year that he has “more confidence” about making a movie in space after shooting ‘Locked Down’ in a deserted London amid the pandemic.
The ‘Bourne Identity’ director said: “It connects to ‘Locked Down’ because the same producer who a year ago came to me and said how would you like to try to shoot a movie in outer space? That’s PJ van Sandwijk, and he’s the same person who said to Steve Knight and myself on July 1, what about you guys writing a movie for us to shoot in September?
“But here’s the thing. When a producer proposes something crazy to you, like, let’s try to shoot a movie in outer space, and NASA and SpaceX sign on, and Tom Cruise signs on…you’re just a little bit more receptive when that same producer says I got another crazy idea, and that became ‘Locked Down’.”

Colin Farrell keen to continue making movies with Brendan Gleeson

OHMYGOSSIP — Colin Farrell hopes to continue working with his ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ with Brendan Gleeson and Martin McDonagh.
The pair both star in the latter’s latest black comedy and his 2008 hitman comedy ‘In Bruges’.
And all three are keen to carry on making movies together.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Colin, 46, said: “Oh God, I’d love to do another with the two boys.”
The 52-year-old director-and-screenwriter agreed: “We will have to do it again.”
Colin then quipped: “In 14 years?”
Brendan, 67, joked that he hopes he’s still alive by then, but admitted with the power of filmmaking and Martin’s writing skills, he could still make it possible.
He said: “I just hope I’m above ground then. But knowing Martin’s writing, that’s not really necessary.”
Colin has recalled how much younger they looked in ‘In Bruges’.
Turning to Brendan, he said: “You were almost younger than I am now! F****** weird. Mad.”
The new film centres on a conflict between two friends. And Brendan recently described the film as an exploration of male relationships, and he feels the theme is particularly “pertinent right now”.
He said: “I’m glad to see male friendship as something valuable at the moment when the readjustment of everyone’s relationships with everybody is under reconsideration.
“The valuing of male friendship against a bromance to me is very deep and pertinent right now.”

Olly Murs wants travel show with Sir Tom Jones

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs wants a travel show with Sir Tom Jones.
After working with the legendary Welsh singer for on ‘The Voice’ for the past few years, Olly revealed he would love to branch out on a new show with Tom, 82.
Olly, 38, told The Sun’s Bizarre column: “He is a top man and if anything, I am like his annoying little grandson. That friendship between us is great. I would love to do more with Tom.
“I would love to try to do one of those travel shows with him or something. Me and Tom travelling in a campervan together would be hilarious.
“I would love to take Tom to different places in the world that he has been to, like go back to Vegas and hear the stories about him over there, because he has so many great stories.”
Meanwhile, Olly recently revealed that his mother Vicky-Lynn Pollard has been banned from ‘The Voice’ set after flirting with Tom.
Olly said: “My mum used to come to The Voice, but…. I said she couldn’t come any more. She’s banned.”
Tom added: “She kissed me.”
And Olly paid tribute to Tom’s long career, saying he is a perfect coach for ‘The Voice’.
He explained: “You have to remember, he has lived through the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. So, you imagine all the types of singers that have come and gone.
“Our show this year is so diverse. We have had so many different talents, from classical singers to modern singers, to UK rappers to Spanish rappers.
“We had like all sorts of classical singers, opera singers. We have had everything.
“And it’s like, I think Tom just gets so excited by hearing all these new artists coming through and all these different styles.
“And he’s still here, he’s still in it. I mean, I hope in 60 years I’m still rocking it on ‘The Voice’.”

Billy Eichner: Homophobia ‘probably was a factor’ in Bros flop

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Eichner believes homophobia was a factor in the flop of his gay romcom ‘Bros’.
Although Billy deleted tweets in which he referenced homophobia as a reason for ‘Bros’ low box-office takings on its opening weekend, he insisted that it was one of the factors for the surprise flop.
Speaking at the New Yorker Festival, Billy said: “Homophobia is a bigger problem than as it pertains to this silly rom-com we made, you know what I mean? But do I think it’s a factor? Yes. I think in certain parts of the country, it probably was a factor.”
However, he admitted that there were other issues too, including the wide theatrical release and the marketing of the movie.
He said: “There’s a lot of factors to it. To open this movie, in this many theatres, a rom-com in 2022 — there are rom-coms with mega-stars, which struggle at the box office, and a lot of the biggest comedy stars are taking their movies to streaming. And for good reason. That seems to be where people want to watch these movies. I still love seeing these movies in the theatre. I grew up going to see all these romantic comedies at the movies with my parents.
“It was a bold swing to open this movie in this many movie theatres without big movie stars.”
He added about the marketing: “I think what we were doing is trying to find every which way to try to motivate people because the odds were so stacked against us for so many reasons.
“It’s just funny, you know, life is absurd. It’s just a rom-com. We wanted to make a Nora Ephron movie about horny gay guys, and it’s inspired a lot of thinkpieces and op-eds. I didn’t know people were so interested in me.
“I love the movie, and I just hope more and more people keep discovering it.”

Ulrika Jonsson slams Molly-Mae Hague’s ‘tacky’ gender reveal

OHMYGOSSIP — Ulrika Jonsson has blasted Molly-Mae Hague’s “tacky” gender reveal.
Former ‘Love Island’ star Molly-Mae and her partner Tommy Fury, both 23, recently revealed they are expecting their first child together but former TV star Ulrika is not impressed.
Writing in her column in The Sun newspaper, she said: “A 23-year-old, unskilled and naïve influencer has got a bun in the oven.
“And she’s having a girl, we now know, because she posted one of those ghastly, tacky, ‘gender reveal’ videos. (Must be exhausting for the poor sod who has to video her every waking moment.)
“Not only has this been the ’emotionally hardest’ period of her life, poor lamb, but hapless Molly Mae has cried FIVE times a day and her whole body has been consumed by the shock of it all.”
And Ulrika, 55, has hit out at Molly-Mae for complaining about her pregnancy symptoms.
She said: “As somewhat of a veteran of pregnancies, I admit, it can be a ballache of emotions — it’s a rollercoaster — and she might run the gamut of them.
“But to be talking about it as if she’s enduring some form of PTSD is drama of the highest order.
“And it must be galling for those women who just crack on with it and, worse still, for those who truly suffer from the debilitating side-effects of pregnancy throughout.
“Becoming pregnant is, after all, one of the most natural things to happen to a woman.
“But, then, I guess if you’re 23, largely inexperienced and an unqualified ‘content creator’ who is also a creative director of a huge fashion firm which, incidentally, amounts to organising canapes for launch parties, becoming pregnant with your long-term boyfriend and having a £6million net worth might just send you over the edge.”

M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller set for release in 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — M. Night Shyamalan will release a new thriller with Universal in 2024.
The 52-year-old director is continuing his lucrative partnership with the studio, with the upcoming untitled film set for release on April 5, 2024.
This follows his previous collaborations with Universal, including 2015’s ‘The Visit, 2017’s ‘Split’, 2019’s ‘Glass’, 2021’s ‘Old’ and the upcoming ‘Knock at the Cabin’, which will be released on February 3, 2023.
‘Knock at the Cabin’ features Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge, who along with their daughter, played by Kristen Cui, are taken hostage at a cabin in the woods by a quartet of villains portrayed by Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Abby Quinn.
The movie is an adaptation of author Paul Tremblay’s ‘The Cabin at the End of the World’.
Paul recently said: “I honestly spent a chunk of my 2022 spring quelling internet speculation and putting out Twitter fires connecting the book and movie.
“It reached a point in early June where that became impossible, however, with all the information out there, including the IMDb page.
“I have been doing my part to be respectful of movie marketing desires and certainly wouldn’t dream of spoiling anything.
“Like the majority of adaptations, there will be story changes and differences compared to the book so my readers will still be surprised by the film.”
Shyamalan first signed the option with FilmNation for the movie back in 2017 with a director attached to the project, but things “didn’t work out”.
Tremblay added: “When it didn’t work out with the first director, Night was still interested in producing, which then became him wanting to rewrite the script and direct as well.”
The movie is said to have a 1990s thriller feel to it.
The author explained: “‘The Cabin at the End of the World’ is itself a reaction to the home invasion film subgenre.
“Most of me is excited and intrigued at the prospect of seeing my story reimagined or refracted on screen.
“But I’d be lying if I said I was egoless about the whole experience. This novel means a great deal to me.”

Jacob Batalon is ‘doing his own thing’ outside the MCU

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacob Batalon is happy doing his “own thing” outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The 25-year-old actor is best known for playing Ned Leeds in the Jon Watts-directed ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy – but Jacob is philosophical about his future in the MCU.
Asked about the possibility of working with a different filmmaker in the franchise, Jacob – who starred in the trilogy alongside Tom Holland and Zendaya – told Collider: “Honestly, I don’t really put too much thought into that.
“I feel like we’re all really moving in ways where we’re not really hoping for it to happen. Not that it’s bad, I just feel like we’re not really anticipating another movie.
“I just feel like we’re all doing our own thing. But again, whatever happens, happens.”
Jacob previously claimed he’s “grown” during his time in the spotlight.
The actor admitted he’s become “a lot more confident” in recent years.
He said: “I conduct myself in a different manner.
“Before, I wasn’t sure how to really operate in a press junket [or] on set. I was very uncertain about a lot of things. But now that I’m fully in it all, I think I’ve become a lot more confident and I’m not afraid to speak my mind.
“I guess I’ve grown in a sense that I’ve formed better opinions about my point of view of the world.”
The Hollywood star also said that he could walk away from the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise with his head held high.
He explained: “We all started out very naive and unsure of what the future held for us.
“I could speak for all of us – we’ve accomplished everything that we wanted to do with the films and our character arcs. I think we can absolutely walk away from it knowing that everything has satisfactorily ended.”

Yvette Fielding reveals how she’d ‘fix’ Blue Peter with new timeslot and presenters

OHMYGOSSIP — Yvette Fielding wants ‘Blue Peter’ to get a “teatime” slot with a new lineup featuring old and new presenters.
The 54-year-old star – who holds the record for the youngest presenter in the iconic show’s 64-year history after signing up as at 18 years old in 1987 – has made some suggestions to inject new life into the longrunning BBC children’s TV programme.
She told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “I’d change the presenters and I wouldn’t put all the young ones together.
“Instead, I’d get a young lady and a young guy and bring back an old presenter alongside them so the families watching would go, ‘Oh my God, Peter Duncan is back!’ I’d air it at teatime to give it a real shot.
“You’d get plenty of elderly viewers who would still remember Sarah Greene, so how wonderful would it be to see her with a young presenter, and up she goes, scaling the Eiffel Tower!”
The ‘Most Haunted’ star admitted she was gutted when ‘Blue Peter’ pulled in zero viewers back in 2017.
She added: “It makes me very sad and I’d love to see down and have a cup of tea with the head of BBC and say, ‘You’ve deprived families, grandparents, aunties and uncles because they’d all sit down with kids and watch a programme that everyone enjoyed. You’ve deprived the British public of a real institution’.
“They proved the programme onto CBBC and killed it be doing that because ratings plummeted.”
Meanwhile, Yvette is still in touch with some of her former co-stars.
She said: “Not WhatsApp, because I don’t understand any of it, but an old-fashioned phone call is marvellous.
“Mark Curray recently had his 60th birthday and he threw a fancy dress party. We had to go as someone from the 1960s so my husband Karl and I put on Beatles wigs.
“Peter Duncan went as a hippie and Janet Ellis was there too. We all still get together to celebrate big birthdays.”

Brendan O’Carroll ‘never wanted to play Mrs Brown’

OHMYGOSSIP — Brendan O’Carroll “never wanted to play” Agnes in ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’.
The 67-year-old comedian has admitted he initially planned to get someone else to play matriarch Agnes Brown in the BBC comedy series that began in 2011.
In an extract shared exclusively in The Sun newspaper, he wrote in his new memoir, ‘The Real Mrs Brown’: “I never wanted to play Mrs Brown. When I first wrote Mrs Brown’s Boys as a radio play for RTÉ 2FM in 1990, I had an actress in mind to voice Mrs Brown.
“But on the day of the first recording, I got word that she had a kidney infection so I decided that, as the studio was booked, I would read her lines and when she was well I would dub her voice in.To give it a bit of a lift I did a voice I often used in stand-up if I was imitating an older Dublin woman.
“The next morning, I was back at the studio to meet Jonathan McEvoy, the edit engineer. He asked a question that made me smile.’Who’s the actress playing Mrs. Brown?’ I realised he was serious, and I laughed. ‘Jonathan, that’s me.’
“He was aghast. ‘You are kidding me?’ I explained that I would be overdubbing the lines with an actress. ‘No way, Brendan, you have to keep that voice. It’s – it’s Mrs Brown. That’s the widow who I really believe is head of that family.’ ”
While speaking to The Sun, Brendan poo-pooed claims of “cultural appropriation” and him being “transphobic” from critics who think he shouldn’t be playing a woman.
He said: “I don’t think about them, I write the show I write. I don’t ever think of myself as being a man playing a woman, when Mrs Brown goes out on that stage she is a woman.
“Where do you draw the line? Is it okay for Leonardo DiCaprio to play a carpenter or do we get a carpenter? Shouldn’t we get the best person for the job?”
Meanwhile, the show’s creator joked that as he ages he needs “less padding” to step into the role.
He quipped: “I find as I get older the less padding I need.”

Jemma Carlton relied on Beyonce to decompress after ‘weight of carrying’ Maxine Carr

OHMYGOSSIP — Jemma Carlton listened to Beyonce to decompress after “the weight of carrying” Maxine Carr.
The star of Channel 5’s true crime drama ‘Maxine’ relied on the music of the 40-year-old superstar when it became “really difficult” to play the real-life role of the Soham woman who was convicted of lying about the whereabouts of her fiancee Ian Huntley, the killer of two 10-year-old girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in a case that horrified the nation 20 years ago following a 13-day hunt for their bodies in across Cambridgeshire.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It helps with the ‘de-robing’ of her. I am such a big Beyoncé fan. It is such a different mood, and it helps massively.
“When we finished filming, I was so tired from carrying the weight of Maxine as a character. When me and Scott [Scott Reid] are in these characters, it’s a really difficult and dark thing.
“So by the end of the day, when we were out of them, we would always listen to some music. I have a playlist when I am in role, and one when I am out.”
Jemma described playing the part “a mountain to climb” in the three-parter looking at the investigation into Maxine – who served two years in prison before being given a new secret identity – and her then-lover, who is still behind bars.
She said: “I felt Maxine was a mountain to climb as a part, but wanted to see how I can push myself in a complex real-life role.”
“I watched every documentary about Maxine that I could get my hands on, and read as much as I could.
“Understanding how she spoke, how her friends and mother were to her, all of that information helped form my take on how she would react in certain moments.”
Meanwhile, she pointed to the way she needed to get the intricate details “right”.
She added: “”I’m from the West Midlands, Maxine is from the East Midlands, so getting those details right was so important.
“She moves very differently to me, so getting into the right posture of being more delicate in the way I held myself was key. I also had my hair dyed and wore coloured contact lenses.”
