Amy Winehouse’s troubled life being turned into eight-part drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Winehouse’s troubled life is being turned into an eight-part drama.
The series will be based on the book ‘Saving Amy’ by Daphne Barak, and tackle the singer’s turbulent romantic and family relationships as well as her drug and drink addictions, rise to singing stardom and tragic early death.
Rights to ‘Saving Amy’ have been bought by Halcyon Studio, and its chief executive David Ellender said it was “honoured” to be working on the project.
He added: “Although her career was cut far too short, Amy was the voice of a generation and we look forward to telling her story in the most poignant way possible.”
Halcyon are planning to bring the book to life with British writer and producer Mal Young, who has worked on series including ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Casualty’ and ‘Holby City’.
The book, based on 40 hours of footage, photographs and interviews with Amy, will also show the singer’s complex relationship with her singer father Mitch before her death in 2011 aged 27 from alcohol poisoning.
It was based on the six months writer Daphne and producer Erbil Gunasti spent with Amy and her family in London, Switzerland and St Lucia.
Amy spent nearly a year on the Caribbean island trying to write and record her third album, which was never released, after her drug and drink addictions had spiralled out of control.
The series will also feature the ‘Back to Black’ singer’s brief marriage to Blake
Fielder-Civil that was allegedly marred by violent fights and self-harm.

‘The Crown’ abdication plot slammed as ‘barrel-load of malicious nonsense’ by ex-PM Sir John Major

OHMYGOSSIP — An abdication storyline said to feature in the upcoming series of ‘The Crown’ has been branded a “barrel-load of malicious nonsense” by former Prime Minister Sir John Major.
The former Conservative leader, 79, hit out after an upcoming episode in the latest series of the royal drama, which stars Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, is said to show Charles – then the Prince of Wales – trying to draw the politician into what appears to be a plot to oust Queen Elizabeth.
Sir John’s spokesman told The Mail on Sunday (16.10.22): “If the scenes you describe are broadcast, they should be seen as nothing other than damaging and malicious fiction.
“A barrel-load of nonsense peddled for no other reason than to provide maximum – and entirely false – dramatic impact.
“As you will know, discussions between the monarch and Prime Minister are entirely private and – for Sir John – will always remain so.
“But not one of the scenes you depict are accurate in any way whatsoever. They are fiction, pure and simple. There was never any discussion between Sir John and the then Prince of Wales about any abdication of the late Queen Elizabeth II – nor was such an improbable and improper subject ever raised by the then Prince of Wales (or Sir John,)”
The new series of ‘The Crown’ is due to be screened in November and it’s reported the first episode of the forthcoming fifth series is set in 1991, against a background of speculation about the future of the monarchy and Charles’ part in the royal family.
Another reported upcoming scene that has provoked Sir John’s anger is said to show a private conversation between him and his wife Norma in their bedroom when staying at Balmoral.
Mr Major is said to be shown despairing about the behaviour of individual members of the royal family, but he also dismissed it as a fiction.
The episode in question, due for release by Netflix on November 9, is said to show Charles celebrating a newspaper poll showing support for the Queen’s abdication among 47% of her subjects.
It is a plot is based on a genuine poll from 1990, but the real on showed the 47% only said Her Majesty – who died aged 96 on September 8 – should hand over the throne “at some stage”.
The Prince, played by Dominic West, is said to be shown briefing against the Queen.
Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith also hit out at ‘The Crown’, telling the Mail on Sunday: “The problem is that the programme is so well produced, so well written that people forget that it is fictional. I give talks all over the US and so many people – well-educated people – believe that absolutely everything in ‘The Crown’ is real.
“They need to have an advisory at the start of the programme that it is a fictional adaptation of historical events. People need to know that the things that happen in The Crown are made up.”
King Charles’ broadcaster friend Jonathan Dimbleby also told the publication: “I gave up watching it years ago but I would say, if you are going to bother watching it, just have a good laugh at how ridiculous it is.”

Tony Adams: ‘It’s miracle I didn’t run to pub to drown sorrows after Strictly Come Dancing disaster’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tony Adams says it is a “miracle” he didn’t get drunk after he froze during his first turn on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ ballroom.
The 56-year-old former Arsenal and England captain – 26 years sober after his years of drink and drug addiction – told The Sun on Sunday (16.10.22) he was amazed he had not “run” to the pub to “drown” his sorrow.
Tony added he cried a “lot” after his initial dance disaster which saw him and pro partner Katya Jones, 33, placed bottom of the BBC show’s leaderboard, with the pair scoring only 15 out of 40 for their tango.
He said: “When that first dance went the way it did, in the car home, I’m going, ‘This is tough, what am I doing?’
“It’s a miracle I didn’t run to the pub and drown all that sorrow. It was painful. I’ve cried a lot, but it was all right. You come out the other side.
“So I’ve grown emotionally through the experience because it’s a challenge.
“Katya has been perfect for me, to push all my buttons and show me how strong I am.”
Tony hailed Katya for “blending” discipline and dance dills with “head stuff and psychology” to improve his performance.
He has since won over viewers by performing a ‘Full Monty’ routine, and Tony and Katya’s American Smooth to ‘With a Little Help from my Friends’ by Joe Cocker on Saturday night’s show (15.10.22) landed them their highest score yet of 26.
Katya told The Sun about buying Tony socks to cheer him up and not having time to constantly praise his efforts: “We work together. After a mistake it’s about having a good chat then going forward.
“Once the dance is done, let’s move on to the next one. Tony requires about 200% praise, which is not possible in this very intense learning process.
“Everything can’t be amazing all the time. So I just get him socks. I said to him that every week we get through I’ll get him a pair of new socks.
“The ones this week have got our faces on. That puts a smile on his face.”

Bill Skarsgard is ‘really looking forward’ to his role in John Wick 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Skarsgard has “always” been a fan of action movies.
The 32-year-old actor is set to star in upcoming thriller ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ and jumped at the chance to take on the yet-to-be-announced role because he finds the franchise “very entertaining.”
He said: “I think the movies are very entertaining. I’ve always been a fan of these kind of over the top, exploitive action movies. (Director) Chad [Stahelski] reached out to me and I met him a few times, and I really liked him. It was a really fun role. I’m not gonna go into detail of what it is, but it was a fun role and a fun world. ”
The ‘It’ star added that he is “really looking forward” to shooting the upcoming role because it is so different to anything he has done before.
He told Collider: “I like the movies. I think they’re entertaining and it is something that I haven’t really done before. That’s always something that does inspire me, for whatever it is. It’s like, ‘Okay, this is a project or genre or something that I haven’t done, so let’s try it out and let’s have fun within those genre constraints.’ So, I’m really looking forward to it.
“Again, I don’t wanna get into too much detail, but it’s something different. That’s why I wanted to do it. I’ve had it for a very long time that I want to try to be as versatile as I possibly can, whether it is crossing genres or playing these vastly different characters. I actually just finished a horror film, but I feel like the horror genre is something that I’ve done a lot of. I’d like to do comedy and I’d like to do action. I want to do as much as possible.”

Matt Goss voted off Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Goss has been voted off ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The Bros singer and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova found themselves in the bottom two alongside Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima this weekend and after repeating their Jive to Sir Paul McCartney’s ‘All Shook Up’, all four judges opted to send them home after finding their competitors’ Samba more impressive.
Craig Revel Horwood said: “I think both couples went up a major notch, I mean Matt you went fantastically mad in that, I loved it, and Kym you were really great in that. But the couple I would like to save is Kym and Graziano.”
Motsi Mabuse then confirmed she would save the same couple “from that dance off only”, as did Anton Du Beke, though he had praise for both couples.
He said: “I would just like to say you should both be thrilled with the way you performed in the dance off, it’s the most high pressured of situations. Matt – that’s your best performance of the whole series, you should be really proud of yourself. But the couple with the higher technical ability, I think for me, going through is Kym and Graziano.”
Head judge Shirley Ballas then confirmed she would have saved the same couple if the vote had got that far.
Matt hailed his time on the show an “extraordinary experience” and thanked the judges for their feedback.
He said: “It’s an extraordinary experience, I have been in America for 25 years. Thank you judges for your candour, you’ve helped me in many ways, my posture – Anton, I am more aware of it. This lovely lady beside me, a world champion with all the patience. I am very honoured to have danced with you, and everyone who is still in, I love you guys, go smash it guys.”
Nadiya praised her partner as a “real gentleman”.
She said: “First I’m so grateful that I got to teach and dance with a music icon. But, more important than this, I got the privilege to get to know Matt, for who you really are. Not many people know you and you’re a beautiful soul, very kind human and a real gentleman.”

Jodie Whittaker felt ‘energised’ playing Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Whittaker thinks playing Doctor Who has “knocked 15 years off [her]”.
The 40-year-old actress – who will soon make her final outing as the iconic character – has loved her time in the role, admitting it’s made her feel “energised”.
Jodie – who became the first female to land the role in 2017 – told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Before I played the Doctor I spent quite a lot of time playing people who lost children, people whose husband had been disabled – you don’t realise how much that emotional trauma leaves you on the edge of upset when you’ve been doing it for 12-hour days.
“With ‘Doctor Who’, there was heartbreak, there was fear and there was loss, but my overriding emotion was excitement. That really fed into my evening and my weekend and my year.
“I feel like it’s knocked 15 years off me because I’ve been so energised.”
Earlier this year, Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the new star of ‘Doctor Who’.
The 30-year-old actor – who is best-known for starring in the Netflix series ‘Sex Education’ – was confirmed as Jodie’s replacement, and he’s “deeply honoured” to have been handed the opportunity.
Looking forward to his new role, Ncuti – who will become the first black actor to play the iconic character full-time – said: “There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.
“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my utmost to do the same.”

Maisie Smith got drunk and slept for 24 hours after Who Dares Wins

OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Smith celebrated her victory on ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ by getting drunk and sleeping for 24 hours.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress was among the famous faces competing on the challenging Channel 4 reality show this year and she was one of four still standing at the end of the series – passing the course along with Calum Best, AJ Pritchard and Ferne McCann – and she has now revealed that after finishing she treated herself to a boozy night followed by a long snooze.
Maisie told The Sun: “I got really p****d and then slept for 24 hours! That’s how I celebrated!”
The 21-year-old actress went on to explain she was told by production staff that the show doesn’t seek out the “fastest or the strongest” competitors – but instead focuses on someone with the “strongest brain and heart”.
She added: “That’s where I won them over, my mentality of never giving up. I’ve never felt more empowered, more strong. I’ve had feelings over the years about not being good enough.
“But this got that demon off my shoulder. I came out feeling like I could conquer the world.”
When she joined the show, Maisie said of her decision to take on the challenge: “I joined SAS because I’ve always struggled seeing my inner and outer strength, and I feel like I needed a boost of confidence.
“And I thought this would be the perfect challenge for me to just get completely out of my comfort zone and see what I’m really made of.”
During the series, 14 celebrity recruits were put through their paces by the taskmasters including Chief Instructor Rudy Reyes and they all gradually dropped out when the going get tough before only four were left standing for Sunday night’s (16.10.22) final.
In the last episode, the final four were seen being interrogated for hours on end before hiking up a mountain in Jordan in the blistering desert heat.

Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri ‘very ill’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tasha Ghouri is “very ill”.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who made the final earlier this summer with boyfriend Andrew Le Page, finishing fourth – took to Twitter to tell fans she is unwell after being so busy of late.
She wrote: “Been so non stop I’m now very ill [face with thermometer emoji] (sic)”
The 23-year-old model urged her followers to always “listen to your body” and practice plenty of self-care.
She added: “always remember to look after your bodies and listen to your body. Self care comes first (sic)”
Last month, the pair revealed they have moved in together.
Andrew said: “Today is moving day, buzzing. But guess what… I’m doing it all by myself because Tasha’s decided to go get her hair done.
“Baffling. A day where we need to be together to do this. But, shock, she is getting her hair done.
“Anyway, this is a mess at the moment. But today is moving day.”
He later added: “Alright people, we’ve officially moved in – even though I’ve done all the work.”
Previously, Tasha shared she was “excited” about the prospect of Andrew proposing, because she wants to settle down sooner rather than later.
She said: “I told Andrew it’s up to you if you want to propose. It’s in his hands.
“The reason why we’re thinking like that is because we’re both so excited and we’re enjoying our time together. It’s the kind of love that you just want to do it, it gets me excited if I talk about it. I get way ahead of myself but it’s up to Andrew isn’t it?
“Even before ‘Love Island’ I always wanted to get engaged and married young, which has always been my dream.
“Having kids hasn’t been in my head, nothing personal against children but I didn’t see it in my plans.
“But when I met Andrew and we had the baby challenge I could start to envisage it, but I said to him that would be many, many, many, years down the line.”

Melissa Suffield rushed son to hospital with ‘nasty virus’

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa Suffield rushed her son to hospital for the third time in 16 days after he was struck down with a “nasty virus”.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress – who portrayed Lucy Beale from 2004 to 2010 in the BBC One soap – revealed her two-year-old boy River was given three doses of nebuliser and then “perked right up”.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Back to A and E again. That’s three visits in the last 16 days.
“Given 3 loads of nebuliser (he was NOT a fan) and some meds and he perked right up. Very much enjoyed having a biscuit in bed and making a friend who he called Baby, even though she was older than him.
“Have been sent home with inhalers to wean from the various nebulisers and some more meds.”
The 29-year-old star urged other parents to trust their instincts if they are concerned about their kids’ health.
She added: “Basically very pleased we went in as it’s absolutely where we needed to be. Always trust your instincts.
“Just a nasty virus being nasty. Fingers crossed it passes quickly now, I am not up for a 4th visit next week, but more than anything just pleased he’s better now.”
Melissa now regularly posts about body confidence and parenting on her Instagram feed.
In September, the former ‘Casualty’ star advised others that their parenting is defined by how they love, protect and care for their kids “unconditionally” rather than how early in life their little ones walk or talk.
She posted: “Who can relate to this?
You read the books, you do the research, you buy the things- and then promptly forget that nothing is guaranteed. And you feel AWFUL. Because of course this is YOUR FAILING. You are BAD at this parenting business. You start to obsess over the mealtimes, or the milestones, or whatever else it is that isn’t going the way you wanted it to, and you feel terrible for it.
But remember, your parenting is not defined by how early your kid walks or talks, or when they tick off their first 100 foods or sleep through the night. Your parenting is defined by how fiercely you love your child, how you protect them, and care for them, unconditionally. So read the books, buy the stuff and whatnot- but just because it doesn’t go ‘right’, doesn’t mean it’s going wrong. They’re going to be amazing and you’re going to be so proud of them [heart emoji] (sic)”

The Exorcist reboot will start filming ‘in a couple of weeks’

OHMYGOSSIP — David Gordon Green will start filming his ‘Exorcist’ reboot “in a couple of weeks”.
The ‘Halloween Ends’ filmmaker will be at the helm of another horror franchise as he looks to revamp the iconic 1973 movie, with Ellen Burstyn back in the fold.
Speaking to Variety, Green said: “We start in a couple of weeks, and we’re ready to roll up our sleeves and dive into the next great franchise.
“We’ve got an amazing cast coming together and scripts we’re all excited about.”
Universal has spent $400 million on the upcoming trilogy, which is being produced by Blumhouse and sees Burstyn back as Chris MacNeil, the woman who brought in two Catholic priests to perfom an exorcism on her possessed daughter, played by Linda Blair.
Looking ahead to the first instalment of the reboot – which is slated for a 2023 release – Green added: “[I’m] honored to step into something that’s so valuable within cinema history.
“And knowing that there is a fanbase that is curious, aware, alert, potentially concerned to see what we’re up to.
“What I like is, people say, ‘Is it stressful?’ No, it’s exciting because I spent so much of my life making movies, and you’re just begging an audience to tune in, or see what’s going on, or buy tickets to the movie.”
The director noted he has “stories to tell” and his own “imagination to express”, while he has also had some “deep” conversations with Burstyn about her character.
He explained: “In a lot of these experiences, I’m looking to talent that is so established and insightful so I just ask a lot of questions and hear what their perspective on the world is and how that informs their creativity.
“It’s like calling your spiritual advisor. We’re communicating on different levels and it’s important for a project like this to have that respect for what people have going on inside.”

Anne Hathaway: Devil Wears Prada 2 is not going to happen

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Hathaway says a sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is not going to happen.
The 39-year-old actress starred as fashion graduate Andy Sachs opposite Meryl Streep – who won an Oscar for her role as powerful magazine editor Miranda Priestly – in the hit 2006 comedy but has ruled out the idea of a follow-up.
She said: “There’s not going to be a sequel. It’s not gonna happen. It’s just like, we can’t do it. It’s not gonna happen. It exists. There are other films. There will be other films. We can just watch that one [‘The Devil Wears Prada’] again.”
Meanwhile, ‘Princess Diaries’ star wore an outfit to the New York Fashion Week thought to have been reminiscent of her Andy Sachs character and joked that she wished she was “clever enough” to correlate the two, noting that it was all a “funny coincidence.”
She told Entertainment Tonight: “I wish that I was this clever. I wish I had this kind of, I don’t know, Machiavellian tendency and I could move all the chess pieces. The truth is it was the outfit that came that fit, and that was the best hairstyle for it. And it turns out people really like ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. It was a funny coincidence. On the way out the door, I was like, ‘Oh, I wonder if anybody will notice?’
“The thing is, I don’t stop and focus on it, but it was a beautiful kind of [thing]. If anything, it was a testament to people’s love of the movie and how deeply they’ve taken that film, and that’s just a wonderful feeling. I just feel so lucky.”

Sydney Sweeney to star in and produce The Caretaker

OHMYGOSSIP — Sydney Sweeney is to star in and produce ‘The Caretaker’.
The ‘Euphoria’ actress is attached to feature in the Universal Pictures adaptation of Marcus Kliewer’s short story of the same name.
Sydney is producing the project through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner together with her partner Jonathan Davino.
Michael Bay and Brad Fuller are also producing through their Platinum Dunes production company. Karl Gajdusek is adapting the script.
‘The Caretaker’ tells the story of a young woman who accepts a caretaking job from Craigslist but quickly discovers that her responsibilities are far greater and more dangerous than she could have ever imagined.
Kliewer attracted the attention of major film studios after putting the short story on Reddit. His previous short story, ‘We Used to Live Here’, was sold to Netflix in a huge deal last year and ‘The Caretaker’ sparked a competitive bidding war amongst movie studios – particularly with Sydney attached to star.
The 25-year-old actress has also been cast in a new ‘Barbarella’ movie.
The new Sony Pictures project is based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book series and was previously adapted for the big screen in 1968 with Jane Fonda playing the lead role.
The film is still in development with no writer or director attached at present, but Sydney is expected to serve as an executive producer.
The 1968 picture was directed by Roger Vadim and centred on the astronaut from the 41st century who sets out to stop the evil scientist Durand Durand.
The original film wasn’t a major box office success but has become a cult classic over time and the Forest estate revealed plans to make a new flick in 2020.

George Alagiah taking break from TV after cancer spreads

OHMYGOSSIP — George Alagiah is taking a break from TV after his cancer spread.
The 66-year-old newsreader – who was first diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in 2014 – returned to BBC’s ‘News at Six’ in April, after taking a break in October last year, but he has been forced to take some more time off.
He said: “A recent scan showed that my cancer has spread further so it’s back to some tough stuff.
“I’m missing my colleagues. Working in the newsroom has been such an important part of keeping energised and motivated.”
George is hoping to get back to the newsroom as soon as possible.
He said: “I look forward to being back in that studio as soon as I can.”
Last month, George told how he has a “tumour site” at the bottom of his back and has spent 18 months in “extreme pain”.
He said: “It is near my L5 lowest vertebra. I’ve spent a lot of the last 18 months in extreme pain. There have been times when even lying down makes it worse.”
Asked if the cancer has spread to his spine, he said: “I don’t know if it is into my spine. It is very technical so you have to be careful.
“What I have is a tumour that is resting very close to the spine and, as far as doctors can make out, has eroded a bit of a vertebra.
“More importantly, it is sitting very close to the nerve and the aorta. Both of which are significant. That’s the one we are watching.”
After being diagnosed in 2014, George returned to presenting duties in 2015, saying at the time he was a “richer person” for his fight.
The cancer returned in 2017 and he underwent further treatment before again returning to work, but in 2020 the news anchor said it had spread to his lungs, before taking a break in October 2021 and returned to work in April.

Lucy Liu lands Red One role

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Liu is the latest star to join the cast of ‘Red One’.
The 53-year-old actress will feature alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Chris Evans and Kiernan Shipka in the upcoming holiday film from Amazon.
The movie is being directed by Jake Kasdan, who reunites with The Rock after working with the star on the ‘Jumanji’ franchise, and has been inspired by an original story by Seven Bucks President of Production Hiram Garcia.
Amazon acquired the project after a competitive bidding war and ‘Red One’ is expected to be released over the Christmas period in 2023.
The plot remains under wraps but the film has been billed as a globe-trotting action-adventure imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.
Lucy is set to star as the villain Kalypso in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ and says it is special to be featuring in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as she has always loved the genre but doubted that it would be possible as a Chinese-American actress.
The ‘Elementary’ actress said: “I think being part of a superhero movie is a super dream, because I am a super fan of comics and of that time, which is my childhood.
“So it really is a dream to be a part of something that, at that time, was unattainable and to grow into that space, and to have them grow into that space – for diversity, for women, and empowerment. It’s not even just quotables, it’s a real thing and being a part of that is really a dream come true.”
Liu also discussed her journey to becoming a recognisable Asian-American actress in Hollywood.
She said: “It’s always about, ‘Is it interesting? Is it challenging?’ And as those things build up, you start to build this structure and this foundation and other people can join, so it becomes a city, becomes a state or country, and it becomes something that we could all be a part of.”

Nadia Sawalha to miss National Television Awards due to illness

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadia Sawalha will miss the National Television Awards with illness.
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist won’t be attending the star-studded ceremony at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on Thursday night (13.10.22), due to a suspected case of COVID-19.
In a YouTube video posted, the 57-year-old broadcaster – who is nominated in the Daytime TV category as part of the ITV show – said: “There it all is. Guess who won’t be going to the National Television Awards?”
While she showed off her invitation to the biggest night in television, Nadia detailed how she had been bed-bound because of the “lurgy”.
The ex ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star lamented about not being able to don her “lovely dress” and join her co-stars, including Jane Moore and Kaye Adams.
Nadia added: “My friend Simone was coming over to do my makeup, I’m supposed to be going with my friend Jordan in the car.
“Jane and Kaye are going. All the girls are going. Party afterwards. Nope.”
The ex-‘EastEnders’ star admitted the sickness had “floored” her and she believes the current lateral flow tests don’t “pick up” the new variant.
Nadia said: “I am convinced that the tests that we have now don’t pick up the new strains of COVID.
“That’s what I think because it’s very similar in the way COVID was – you start to feel better and then you just get hammered again and just have to go to bed,” before adding that the day before she had laid in bed “staring at the ceiling for three hours,” something Nadia “never” does.
