Rian Johnson honoured to include late icons in Glass Onion

OHMYGOSSIP — Rian Johnson was delighted that Stephen Sondheim and Dame Angela Lansbury both agreed to appear in ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’.
The late stars both make their final film appearances in Rian’s murder mystery sequel and the filmmaker was grateful to pay homage to two icons of stage and screen.
Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival on Sunday (16.10.22), Rian said: “They were so kind and generous. We thought, my God, would either of them ever do it? We didn’t think they would. And both of them were so cool.
“For both of them, besides just the honour of having them in the movie, personally just being able to have 10 minutes with each of them to tell them what their work has meant to me was really special.”
Daniel Craig, who stars in ‘Glass Onion’ as Detective Benoit Blanc, also paid tribute to Lansbury following her death aged 96 last week and revealed that the star’s fantasy classic ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ was his favourite film.
He said: “The fact that’s she in our movie, we were so blessed, and what an incredible life she had.”
Johnson confirmed that the movie will feature a tribute to both Lansbury and Sondheim – who died aged 91 in November 2021.
The 48-year-old director said: “We’re adjusting the credits… we’re going to add the dedication to them. They were, both of them, two heroes of mine and they have very small, little but fun cameos.”
The movie is a sequel to the successful ‘Knives Out’ and Rian revealed that he wanted to make an Agatha Christie murder mystery that takes place in modern America for the original film.
He said: “I grew up loving murder mysteries, I grew up loving Agatha Christie’s books and the movies that were based on the books, like the old ‘Death on the Nile’ and ‘Evil Under The Sun’ and so for me, it’s really a comfort-food genre I’ve always loved.
“I didn’t want to so much put my own twist on it, I just wanted to do a really good version of it, but I wanted to do it set in America right now.”

Lorraine Kelly backs Change and Check initiative

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorraine Kelly is backing a Change + Check campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The initiative encourages people to check their breasts regularly to look for changes, and doctors and other medical experts on the show have been sharing information on the warning signs to look for.
As part of the initiatve, card company Moonpig are offering a range of free cards to highlight the important message of self-checks.
Helen Addis, breast cancer survivor, ‘Lorraine’ Producer and founder of the Change + Check campaign, said: “I remember chatting to my friends throughout my 18 months of treatment and was amazed at how many of them didn’t check their boobs. Breast cancer can happen to anybody – men and women, young and old – which is why people need to get to know their bodies better, so they can spot any signs of change.
“I hope recipients of these cards not only check their breasts, but that they then send these cards to their friends and family so we can really get the message out there and ultimately save lives.”
The range of four fruit-themed cards – which are free to send throughout October using the code FREECHECK – feature four fruity designs with slogans such as “Cherry-ish your boobs and give them a once-over!” and “Are your breasts simply the zest? Well treat them like they are and get them checked out!”.
They also feature a QR Code which goes directly to an easy-to-follow guide on how to check for the signs of breast cancer as more than 50 per cent of women say they don’t know the early symptoms of the disease.
Sarah-Jane Porter, Global Design and Licensing Director at Moonpig said: “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ and its Change + Check campaign to help educate people on the importance of self-checks. We know life can get busy and we all need a little reminder to look after ourselves.
“Cards have the ability to not only connect people, but deliver important and emotional messages, which is why they’re perfect to encourage more women (and men) to check for the early signs and ultimately save lives in the long run.”
The cards are available to send at https://www.moonpig.com/uk/blog/moonpig-and-friends/moonpig-lorraine-change-and-check-cards/

Emmerdale star Katherine Dow Blyton reflects on Harriet Finch’s death scenes

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Dow Blyton was “very emotional” reading the script for Harriet Finch’s death.
The ‘Emmerdale’ star’s character became the first fatality of the ITV soap’s epic storm week during Monday night’s episode (17.10.22) when she fell in the woods and got struck by lightning during a rescue mission in search of pregnant Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell).
As quoted by RadioTimes.com, actress Katherine said: “I got very emotional reading it. On the actual day I was covered in blood and I had various bits of woodland hanging out of my hair.
“We had these industrial wind machines which were literally blowing sand and debris into your eyes.
“So when it came to it, it wasn’t as emotional because the technicality of what you have to do takes away from the emotion, so I managed to get through the day without sobbing.”
Although Harriet’s death weren’t the final scenes she worked on for the show, the AGE-year-old star has recalled the kind gestures when she did have her last day on set.
She added: “The death wasn’t my last scene though, but on my last day I received flowers and lovely gifts and messages.
“I don’t think it will hit me that I’m not going back for a couple of weeks because it feels like I’m on a break but it will slowly hit me.”
Meanwhile, Katherine doesn’t “have any plans” in the immediate future”, and she’s willing to “see where life takes her”.
She said: “I think I need time to decompress and to re-evaluate what I want the next part of my life to be.
“I have so many big decisions but I’m going to feel my way for the rest of this year and reconnect with my friends in London. Just live my life for a bit and not set my alarm for 5:30 in the morning.”

Black Adam was almost Rated R due to heavy violence

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Black Adam’ was originally Rated R due to its heavy violence.
The new DC universe blockbuster – which stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the titular superhero – saw producers go “four rounds” with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) as edits were made to secure the film a PG-13 rating.
Producer Hiram Garcia told Collider: “We really wanted to make sure that we honoured the character of Black Adam. One of the things he’s known for is his aggression and violence, and to do a Black Adam movie that didn’t have that just wouldn’t have been authentic.
“So we always went into this knowing that we were going to push it as far as we did.
“We knew it was going to be a collaborative process with the MPAA to finally get it to where we were able, to get that rating, but we were able to pull it off.”
Garcia and co-producer Beau Flynn were able to land the PG-13 rating “four of rive weeks ago”, as they and The Rock wanted to stick to the “obligation” that felt to the fans to portray the anti-hero in the right way.
Still, plenty of scenes had to be cut from the movie to help get rid of the R-rated tag.
Flynn revealed: “We had some really cool moments, and if you notice, there are some great moments when Black Adam is in the fly bike chase sequence and drops one of the intergang soldiers.
“Then there’s this great moment where the truck bounces over the body. But those are moments that you need and remember in these movies, you know what I mean? You can’t play it safe, and you have to go for it.
“And I think we have four or five of those. At one point we had about ten, and we were able to find some compromise with the MPAA on that.”

Ruth Negga and Luke Evans to star in Dan Levy’s feature film directorial debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Negga and Luke Evans are to star in Dan Levy’s feature film directorial debut.
The ‘Passing’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ stars will be joined by David Bradley, Celia Imrie, Himesh Patel, Arnaud Valois, and Jamael Westman in Netflix film ‘Good Grief’.
‘Schitt’s Creek’ star Levy, who will write, direct and star in the romantic-comedy movie, admitted the project has been “bittersweet” and helped him through his own grief.
He said in a statement: “‘Good Grief’ is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you’ve evaded for most of your life.
“It’s funny, it’s bittersweet, it’s a project that has helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well.”
The film will tell the story of Levy’s character Marc Dreyfuss, who tries to avoid the grief of his mother’s death with a comfortable marriage.
However, he is later forced to face up to his mum’s passing after his husband unexpectedly dies.
In order to do so, Marc joins two of his pals on a Parisian weekend of self-discovery.
Levy – whose father is ‘American Pie’ actor Eugene Levy – is no stranger to directing on the small screen, after scooping an Emmy for ‘Schitt’s Creek’ episode ‘Happy Ending’.
His Not A Real Production Company partner and president Megan Zehmer will also be part of the movie’s production, and Stacey Snider, Kate Fenske, and Debra Hayward will also produce the film.

Anthon Ramos is latest star to join Dumb Money cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Anthony Ramos, Dane DeHaan and Vincent D’Onofrio have been cast in ‘Dumb Money’.
The trio have joined the starry ensemble for the comedy-drama that includes Pete Davidson, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen and Sebastian Stan.
The film focuses on the January 2021 “short squeeze” movement around the video game retail chain GameStop. The incident saw users of the Reddit page ‘Wall Street Bets’ come together to increase the stock values of the company, which had been suffering from lagging stock prices for several years.
The situation resulted in major hedge funds and independent short sellers suffering significant financial losses and led to calls for more regulation of the stock market.
The movie puts the spotlight on the Reddit users behind the squeeze and principal photography on the project is now underway.
Craig Gillespie is directing the movie that is based on the book ‘The Antisocial Network’ by Ben Mezrich. Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum are adapting the story for the big screen.
Anthony is set to star in the movie ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ and decided to join the cast to challenge himself after appearing in musical films such as ‘Hamilton’ and ‘In the Heights’.
The 30-year-old actor said: “It’s easy for people to be like, ‘Oh, he’s the guy that sings and dances,’ or ‘Whatever, he makes music.’
“I think I have to challenge myself, right? ‘In Treatment’ was very different from ‘In The Heights’, which will be very different from ‘Transformers’.”
Ramos explained that he feels a constant need to prove himself whenever he takes on a new role.
He said: “I think for me, I have a conversation with myself before I say yes to anything, and I take a long time to decide to do things, especially in my work, because it’s been so hard for me, especially being Puerto Rican and from the hood. I already had all the things going against me, right?
“So it’s like, now I say to myself, ‘How can I continue to not only prove myself to the world, but prove to myself, ‘Hey, you can do that. You can also do that. And you can do that. And you can do that.'”

Harrison Ford joins Marvel Cinematic Universe

OHMYGOSSIP — Harrison Ford has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The ‘Indiana Jones’ actor will be taking over the role of General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in the movie ‘Captain America: New World Order’.
Harrison replaces William Hurt in the role following the actor’s death at the age of 71 in March.
The 80-year-old star’s casting has been rumoured of late and he will join Anthony Mackie in the movie after he assumed the mantle of the superhero in the hit Disney+ series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’.
Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson and Carl Lumbly are also among the ensemble cast for the film, which is scheduled for release in 2024.
General Ross is a top-ranking military official who was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1962 and he leads the team of anti-heroes known as the Thunderbolts.
‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ creator Malcolm Spellman wrote the script for the superhero movie with the show’s staff writer Dalan Musson producing with Marvel chief Kevin Feige.
Harrison had previously claimed that Marvel had “killed” the success of its superhero films by releasing too many of them.
Discussing his return as Indiana Jones in the upcoming fifth film, he said: “I don’t really want to give them what they wanna see, I want to give them something they didn’t anticipate seeing. The Marvel movies are a spectacular example of a success that worked the other way round – they killed it.”
Ford hinted that he wouldn’t let the franchise follow the same path as the Marvel blockbusters.
The ‘Star Wars’ actor said: “We’re not going to make another ‘Indiana Jones’ unless we’re in a position to kill it. We want it to be the best.”

Kimberley Walsh: Cheryl Tweedy identified me on Masked Dancer immediately

OHMYGOSSIP — Kimberley Walsh didn’t reply to Cheryl Tweedy after she correctly guessed she was in ‘The Masked Dancer’, before she was unmasked.
The 40-year-old singer decided against messaging her Girls Aloud bandmate back after she immediately clocked Kimberley was Odd Socks on the ITV show, because she didn’t want to confirm or deny anything.
She said: “Cheryl clocked it straight away, after the first dance she messaged me and said ‘did you honestly think you could keep that from me, I know how you move more than you know how to walk’
“She just did the emoji eyes and I was like, I’m not even going to reply and admit anything.
“She just knew straight away. I didn’t lie – I didn’t confirm or deny, I just left it to her own suspicions.”
Kimberley also kept her fellow Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts – who won ‘The Masked Singer’ in 2020 – in the dark.
She told The Sun Online: “It didn’t tell her because I couldn’t, but now we can swap experiences, she probably could have given me a few tips.”
Kimberley – who has three sons with her partner Justin Scott – was eliminated from the programme last weekend after being unmasked as Odd Socks.
She said afterwards: “I did this for my kids, they love this show. They have no idea.”
The pop star also explained the meaning behind her ‘Masked Dancer’ persona.
After being unmasked, Kimberly explained: “I had to pick Odd Socks … I’m a mum of three boys – that’s my life.”
Earlier in the show, Denise Lewis was also eliminated.
The 50-year-old former athlete was revealed as Sea Slug after she was voted off by the judging panel.
Following her elimination, Denise said: “It’s been outstanding, seriously!”

Huw Edwards ’embarrassed’ by knighthood speculation

OHMYGOSSIP — Huw Edwards feels “embarrassed” by speculation he could receive a knighthood following his coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s death.
The BBC ‘News at Ten’ presenter doesn’t think he is deserving of such an honour because he has previously nominated people for prizes who have dedicated their whole life to “deserving causes”, and they haven’t received anything.
He said: “I am embarrassed by it. I have been involved in nominating people for honours and, in a few cases, people who have spent a lifetime giving time to deserving causes and don’t get anything.
“So, although I don’t mean it disrespectfully, the idea of a knighthood embarrasses me.”
Huw was told about the queen’s death “about 10 seconds before” he was due to announce it to the nation on the BBC, and he admits the usual “shouting in your ear from the gallery” turned into a more calm encouragement.
He said: “Usually, when you have a breaking story there’s a lot of shouting in your ear from the gallery, saying, ‘Go to the news, go to the news’, but this time was different.
“The announcement came up on the wires and the gallery said, ‘The announcement is here. Take your time. Speak when you are ready. Don’t rush.’
“So I was able to pause for a few seconds, to make sure I’d do it flawlessly, to ensure I was happy with the announcement being in place, to check that it was correctly on the autocue. The important thing was that it had to be done properly.
“So I paused, and only then did I do it.”
Following the queen’s passing, the TV presenter worked tirelessly on shows for five to six hours each day, and admits he got some downtime with boxing sessions and long walks in between programmes.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, he added: “Every day seemed to melt into the next, with programmes of five to six hours each day.
“My spare time was limited, but in between I did long walks, and a couple of boxing sessions.”

Jay Blades forging DJ career

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Blades is forging a new career as a DJ.
The ‘Repair Shop’ presenter has landed his first major gig at London private members’ club The Ned this Saturday (22.10.22), and he has plenty of 80s and 90s hits lined up to wow revellers.
He said: “I am now a DJ. I’m being taught by my friend, Ray Banton, and playing music that he supplies me.
“You can expect 80s and 90s.”
Jay is expecting his DJ debut to be a steamy affair, admitting some of the music he is planning to play will “get a bit sexual”.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “If you bring your partner down there you might get a bit naked, as the music does get a bit sexual.
“I love music. Ray has DJ’d all around the world and he says I’m ready.
“I think I’m ready for it. And I’m going to wear something gorgeous.”
Just days after Jay’s first major DJ gig, an episode of ‘The Repair Shop’ featuring King Charles will air as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations.
The 73-year-old monarch met with host Jay and his expert team to explore their shared passion for preserving heritage craft skills, and the episode – which will air on 26 October at 8pm – sees Charles ask for them to mend a piece of pottery made for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and an 18th century bracket clock.
The episode was partly filmed in August 2021 and Jay, ceramics expert Kirsten Ramsay, furniture restorer Will Kirk, and horologist Steve Fletcher were invited to Dumfries House in Scotland to meet the royal, who was then still Prince of Wales.
On the programme, Charles gives Jay a tour of the estate before they meet students on the Building Craft Programme, which was set up by The Prince’s Foundation.
Jay admitted it was easy to find common ground with the king.
He said: “You’ve got someone from a council estate and someone from a royal estate that have the same interests about apprenticeships and heritage crafts
“It is unbelievable to see that two people from so far apart, from different ends of the spectrum, actually have the same interests.”

Alison Hammond thought she had been announced as NTAs winner

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond thought she had been announced as the winner of the TV Presenter prize at the National Television Awards.
The 47-year-old television personality had to rely on her co-host Dermot O’Leary, 49, to set her straight after she was convinced her name had been called instead of the actual winners, Ant and Dec – who have picked up the gong 21 years running – at the star-studded ceremony at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on Thursday night (13.10.22).
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, Alison said: “I’ll be honest with you, you were the funniest partner. You sat next to me all yesterday and you just made me laugh throughout the whole show. But the funniest moment was obviously, I was up for an award and I heard Ant and Dec being called, but I heard ‘Alison.’
“In my head, I heard ‘Alison’ so then I reached across to Dermot and I said, ‘Hey, did they say Alison?,’ and Dermot went, ‘No. They didn’t say Alison.’ It was so shameful.”
She then burst out laughing and admitted it was “so embarrassing”.
Dermot thought Alison was “taking the mick” but conceded it was “hard to hear” what was happening at the ceremony.
He said: “It was quite hard to hear in the room, but when you said it to me I thought you were just taking the mick.”
The ex ‘Big Brother’ contestant was adamant she was deadly seriously, saying: “No, I wasn’t joking. I genuinely, I was like, ‘Did they say Alison, babes?’ And you went ‘Nope.’ ”
The pair – who celebrated the magazine programme’s Best Daytime win with the rest of team last night, including Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield – outed their editor on the show for still being “home in bed” after their boozy celebrations got a bit out of hand.
They tried to show off their award from last night, but had to use one they had previously won.
Holding a gong from 2020, Dermot said: “Also, it’s not necessarily this award, because our editor …” before Alison interrupted him, saying: “You can’t out him.”
But Dermot continued: “So you know when the World Cup went missing and a dog found it under some bushes,” referencing how a man walking his dog Pickles in south London uncovered the stolen 1966 Jules Rimet trophy.
Alison said: “He had one too many drinks, our editor, Martin Frizell, and he’s still at home in bed, maybe with the award, so this is from 2020.”

Hamza Yassin loses a stone during Strictly Come Dancing stint

OHMYGOSSIP — Hamza Yassin has lost a stone while competing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Countryfile’ presenter admitted to dropping an “unheard of” amount of weight while training nine hours a day for the BBC One Latin and ballroom competition with his professional partner Jowita Przystal.
The 32-year-old broadcaster said: “I’ve lost a lot of weight already, around 6.5kg [1.02-stone], which is unheard of really.
“But if you’re training nine hours a day you kind of get that. It’s hard.
“Everything just aches and aches. With the foxtrot my knees ached, then it was my knees and my lower back for the jive, and this week it’s a hard dance.”
“These guys [the professional dancers] have been doing it for 12 to 15 years and we have to come to their standards in four days.
“We [the celebrities] are never going to get to their standards, but we still have to learn the basics and do a show and perform and deliver it on a Saturday.
“It’s kind of crazy, but I’m absolutely enjoying it.”
Hamza – who is competing alongside Jayde Adams, Will Mellor and Matt Goss, among others – confessed the gruelling days get “tough” by mid-afternoon, but Jowita helps him to get back on track.
He said: “It does get tough sometimes. Jowita’s fitness levels are out of this world, but by about three or four o’clock I’m flagging, so she has to pull out all the stops to bring my energy back up again.”
The ‘Animal Park’ host compared days “stuck” in the dance studio to days spent in a classroom.
Hamza added to BBC Radio Scotland: “It’s a little bit like school
“You’re stuck in a studio listening to the same song a million times and you’re trying to do the steps and everything. But it’s enjoyable, because if you have a good partner then time flies. Some days we look at the clock and we haven’t even eaten lunch and I say, ‘Wow, now I understand why I’m hungry.’ ”

Kate Garraway’s ’emotional’ NTAs

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway says it was “incredibly emotional” taking her daughter Darcey to the National Television Awards.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ anchor made a “last minute” decision for her 16-year-old daughter to accompany her to the biggest night in British TV, where she scooped a gong for her documentary ‘Caring For Derek’, about Darcey and her 13-year-old brother Billy’s dad Derek Draper’s ongoing recovery from his battle with coronavirus.
Speaking on ‘GMB’ on Friday (14.10.22), the 55-year-old broadcaster said: “It was incredibly emotional – a last minute thought to bring Darcey because I found out I had a plus one.
“It was really lovely because of course she’s right there at home, as is Bill – he’s a bit young. And so for her to come, and I just love the fact that she was just so excited to be there.”
Kate – who has been open with how her and her family are coping with her 55-year-old husband Derek becoming bed-bound and needing round-the-clock care after a severe case of COVID-19 in March 2020 – revealed Darcey was telling everyone how “proud” she was of her father.
She said: “People were asking saying, ‘Are you proud of your mum?’, she kept saying, ‘Yes – and my dad!’ Every single time!”
Kate’s ‘GMB’ co-host Ben Shephard labelled her a “champion” after she picked up the same award for her first documentary ‘Finding Derek’ last year, before telling her that the team were “thrilled to bits for” her.
He added: “I was hoping we’d be able to show you the trophy, the National TV Award itself. However, Kate Garraway has lost it!”
Kate admitted she didn’t bring in the trophy because she didn’t want to get accused of “showing off”.
She said: “No I haven’t lost it! This is the kind of libelous talk that – I have not lost it. I felt a bit awful bringing it in. It was right by the door and I thought, no, I don’t want people to think I’m showing off.”
Ben said: “When you say ‘right by the door’, it wasn’t where you left it and suddenly, ‘Where have I put it?’ ”
Kate replied: “It wasn’t. That was everything else! My purse, my makeup bag, everything else. But the award was right there, I promise you!”
Later in the show, the award was handed to her after someone was sent to get it from her house.
Kate said: “Was it where I said? Yes! Thank you,” before adding: “So not lost, but just by the door. There you go.”

Kate Hudson feared Glass Onion audience reaction

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Hudson was nervous about watching ‘Glass Onion’ in front of an audience.
The 43-year-old star plays the role of Birdie Jay in the murder mystery sequel to ‘Knives Out’ and was “sweating” about seeing the flick for the first time with an audience present.
Talking on tonight’s (14.10.22) episode of ‘The Graham Norton Show’, Kate recalled: “We weren’t allowed to see the movie except with an audience, which I’ve never done before and it caused lots of sweating and a headache, but when I did see it with so many people it was just raucous and a great party. It was cool.”
Kate stayed tight-lipped about the new movie but had gushing praise for the cast, particularly for Daniel Craig’s performance as Detective Benoit Blanc.

‘The Graham Norton Show’ airs on BBC One on Friday 14th October at 10.40pm and is available on BBC iPlayer.
