David Tennant almost played James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — David Tennant was almost cast as James Bond.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star has discovered that he was on the shortlist to take on the role of 007 before Daniel Craig landed the role in 2005 after being told of the news by a friend of Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Quizzed on whether he had been in the running to play the iconic spy, David told Acting for Others Presents podcast: “No, I never believed I had until I worked with a director recently who had worked with the Broccolis, who said, ‘Yeah, you were on the list that time.’
“I went, ‘What time?’ He went, ‘The last time.’
“I suppose he meant Daniel Craig, because before that I’d have been a child. I think it was a long list and I don’t think I was ever near the top of it, but apparently so.”
The 51-year-old actor – who played the Tenth Doctor between 2005 and 2010 and is set to reprise the role for the sci-fi show’s 60th anniversary next year – thinks that playing 007 would have drastically altered his level of fame.
David said: “I think it’s a bit of a game changer. That level of celebrity.
“Bond is on a different level. But there is that bit (as the Doctor) where you lose your anonymity, certainly.
“It was a different scale to anything I’d done before in terms of just the general public being aware of you. There’s always someone who has a DVD that they want signing.
“But I’m not going to complain about that, it’s a very privileged place to be.”

David Dimbleby: The BBC is absolutely vital

OHMYGOSSIP — David Dimbleby thinks the BBC is “absolutely vital”.
The former ‘Question Time’ host offers his personal take on major controversies that affected the BBC during his time at the corporation in three-part series ‘Days That Shook The BBC with David Dimbleby’, as the company celebrates its centenary this week.
In the final episode of the show – which he pitched to the BBC around two-and-a-half years ago – he concludes the idea that the BBC should not exist is alarming.
David believes it is important for the company to stick around because it doesn’t have a “political agenda”.
He said: “The BBC is the one organisation that can be relied on not to have a political agenda. The BBC’s only agenda is to try to get to the truth of things.
“It doesn’t have a political slant, it doesn’t have particular views it wants to get across.
“It is as near as we can get to an objective truth teller. And I think, in a world where there is a cacophony of voices and a cacophony of different prejudices and opinions and distortions prevailing, it’s absolutely vital to have something where, whatever its faults, its intention is to strive to tell the objective truth.”
While the 83-year-old journalist admits the BBC’s 100th birthday is a “cause for celebration”, he believes the corporation should be looking to the “next 100 years”.
He added: “Milestones are obviously a cause for celebration but actually, when you hit 100 years, what you should be looking at is the next 100 years.
“The past is very interesting, but it is gone. It’s what it teaches us for the future that matters.”
The BBC (British Broadcasting Company) is marking its 100th birthday this week after it was formed on October 18, 1922.

Michael B. Jordan: Creed III is the perfect directorial debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael B. Jordan says ‘Creed III’ was the “perfect” film to make his directorial debut on.
The 35-year-old actor will reprise his role as Adonis Creed in the sports film and explained how he felt that it was the ideal time to make his bow behind the camera in the ‘Rocky’ spin-off.
Speaking to Collider, Michael said: “For me, it was the perfect time. Growing up on set, in the industry, over 20 years, and start out doing background work and extra work and just seeing the sets evolve and seeing everybody’s job and seeing how a real production took place, I finally got to this place in my career where I wanted to tell a story and not just be in front of the camera to execute somebody else’s vision.”
Michael has played Adonis in two previous movies and explained that he is at the stage of his career where he can tell a story with his life experiences.
He explained: “It’s a character that I’ve played twice before. It’s been seven or eight years living with this guy. I’m telling a story of where I believe Adonis is at, and also at 35 years old, I had a lot to say, as a young man and as a young black man, with my life experiences.”
The ‘Just Mercy’ star explained that “family” is at the centre of the flick, which sees Creed taking on his childhood friend and former boxing prodigy Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors).
Michael said: “Thematically, for us, family is always the core – family and heart. There’s a bit of facing your past and finding out who you really are. That’s something we address in this movie. It’s a homecoming. Remembering where you come from is really important in this.
“Sometimes settling debts and being accountable for your actions is something that we wanted to look at. This movie has a lot of me in it, and hopefully a lot of other people, as well. I wanted to create a story where everybody felt like they could relate to something in this movie.”

Jonathan Majors ‘has had a few chats’ about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Majors and Destin Daniel Cretton have already “had a few chats” about making ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’.
The 33-year-old actor will star as Kang in the Marvel movie, and although it’s not scheduled to be released until 2025, Jonathan has already spoken to the director about the project.
He told Variety: “We just had a few chats. We spoke a very long time, and he’s an open mind, he’s an open heart, and he’s grounded.
“He and the work that he does is grounded, and I think that’s the most important part about it, that we’re dealing with myths, you know? What is a Kang? What is a movie? What is an MCU movie, you know? What does that mean? What does that look like?
“Those are the questions we’re asking, but all of that works when it’s grounded and really, really tucked into the given circumstances of what’s going on between these people, and what we can illuminate for ourselves as a species.”
Jonathan recently admitted to being excited by the “dimensions” of the character.
The actor – who will also star in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ – said: “It was the character and dimensions of Kang. And the potential that it had. I thought, I’ll take a chance on that.”
Marvel head Kevin Feige is also looking forward to seeing Jonathan in the role.
Kevin, 49, suggested that he’s the perfect candidate for the part of Kang.
He explained: “Jonathan is an incredibly compelling actor who puts in the work yet makes it look effortless, and he’s also just cool – everyone pays attention when he steps into the room.”

Top Gun: Maverick star Jay Ellis says cast ‘would love’ to return for sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star Jay Ellis is convinced the whole cast is keen to return for a sequel.
The actor played Lt. Reuben ‘Payback’ Fitch in the action movie which was a huge box office smash earlier this year and became Tom Cruise’s first film to pass the $1 billion mark worldwide – and Jay is adamant he has now idea whether a follow-up is in the works.
Speaking at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday night (15.10.22), he told PEOPLE.com: “I haven’t heard about it [a sequel], so if you know something, tell me. No, I don’t think there will be. What do I know? Maybe there will be. Maybe there will.”
He went on to insist there’s definitely an appetite among castmembers for a second movie, adding: “I mean, we would all love to work together. We’d love to do it again. We’d love to be with Tom [Cruise] again. We’d love to be in the back F18s again. So if we’re lucky enough to do it again, I’m sure every single one of us would be there.”
Jay’s co-star Miles Teller recently opened up about the prospect of a sequel and he claimed the decision is likely to be down to the film’s leading man Tom Cruise.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “That [a sequel] would be great, but that’s all up to [Tom Cruise]. It’s all up to Tom. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it. We’ll see.”
It came after Miles previously claimed he’d had an idea for a sequel focused on his character Lieutenant Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, telling Screenrant.com: “I’m trying to get a Top Gun: Rooster … We’ll see what happens … I’m available.”

Guillermo del Toro attends Pinocchio premiere after mother’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Guillermo del Toro was emotional at the ‘Pinocchio’ premiere following the death of his mother.
The ‘Hellboy’ filmmaker has directed a stop-motion take on the classic story for Netflix and confessed that the world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on Friday (14.10.22) had additional poignancy as it came after the passing of his mother Guadalupe Gomez.
Speaking at the premiere, Guillermo said: “I just want to say, my mother just passed away, and this was very special for her and me. This is not only the first time you’ll see the movie, it’s the first time she’ll see the movie with us.”
The director recalled his mother’s love of ‘Pinocchio’ and how the classic Disney animated film forged a bond between the pair that has influence Del Toro’s career behind the camera.
The 58-year-old filmmaker said: “I saw the film as a kid and it’s a film that bonded me with my mom for an entire life.
“It affected me because Pinocchio saw the world the way I saw it. I was a little bit enraged that people demand obedience from Pinocchio so I wanted to make a film about disobedience as a virtue, and to say that you shouldn’t change to be loved.”
‘Pinocchio’ is the first animated film that Del Toro has made and he thinks the medium should be appreciated more by the movie industry.
He said: “Everybody who is here believes that animation is not a genre. That animation is art. Animation is film.”
Guillermo has promised that his stop-motion movie will be “beautiful” and reflect the history of ‘Pinocchio’.
He explained: “I really wanted this movie to land in a way that had the expressiveness and the material nature of a handmade piece of animation – an artisanal, beautiful exercise and carving, painting, sculpting, but it had the sophistication of movement that research on rigs and puppetry-making has taken us.
“Pinocchio has lived through the centuries, a fable very close to my heart. We are very sure that this incarnation is particularly beautiful.”

Alexandra Daddario cast in I Wish You All The Best

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexandra Daddario is to star in ‘I Wish You All The Best’.
The 36-year-old actress is set to feature in the film that will mark the directorial debut of Tommy Dorfman.
The film is based on Mason Deaver’s bestselling novel of the same name and Dorfman will both produce and write the screenplay.
The flick revolves around a non-binary teen who, after being kicked out of the house by the conservative parents, moves in with their estranged sister and embarks on a journey of self-discovery that teaches them about love, friendship and family.
ACE Entertainment acquired the feature rights to the project before it became widely available to buyers and Matt Kaplan will produce the movie for the company.
Alexandra previously explained how she finds acting “surreal” and “weird” at times but appreciates being “lost in the moment” when she is doing her job.
‘The White Lotus’ star explained: “Yeah, but I have that feeling on set, all the time. You’ll do a scene where you’re just like, ‘Oh, my god, this is so surreal. I can’t believe this is my job. This is such a weird thing to be doing.’
“It’s a very weird thing to lose yourself, in a moment of intimacy, or you’re screaming, or you’re doing a scene where a car is crushing you, or something. I have all of these different memories of being on set and, all of a sudden, being like, ‘This is so weird. What am I doing? This is a bizarre job that I have.’ But I think that’s just a sign that you separate yourself from your real life and you’re lost in the moment, and that’s a cool feeling.”

Claire King’s Emmerdale stunt scene ‘nearly finished her off’

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire King was “nearly finished [off]” by a dramatic stunt on ‘Emmerdale’.
The 60-year-old actress plays Kim Tate in the ITV soap, and Claire has joked that she’s getting “too old” to be filming stunts.
Discussing the recent cliffhanger scene – which featured a powerful explosion – Claire shared: “Never mind the end for Kim. It nearly finished me off all of that, being thrown around in the woods in all that dirt and things. I’m too old for that. It was quite a test, actually.”
Claire also revealed that she started a course of antibiotics after shooting the dramatic scenes.
The soap star told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was a very hot day if you remember but it’s supposed to be October, so I have all these layers on and clothes, so it was rather sweaty.
“It was also very dirty and dry in the woods, so after filming I was on antibiotics for about a week because my nose and eye all swelled up.
“I blew my nose about a week after I finished my course and a great big seed pod flew out, and it had become infected so it must have blown up with all them wind machines, it was somewhat traumatic.”
Kim was seriously injured in the explosion as she tried to help a gravely injured Harriet Finch.
But Claire is remaining tight-lipped about whether Kim and Harriet will survive the blast.
She said: “If Kim doesn’t die … Will is not gonna be too happy because they had this little thing going on.
“Kim does suspect that there’s something going on between Harriet and Will, so I think Will could possibly blame Kim for whatever happens to Harriet. But I’d also like to say I’ve had a lovely time in Spain so it might be Kim who’s [in trouble].”

Amber Davies is dating her West End co-star

OHMYGOSSIP — Amber Davies is dating actor Ben Joyce.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has admitted that she never planned to fall in love with Ben, who appears alongside her in the stage adaptation of ‘Back To The Future’.
Speaking about her new romance, Amber told ITV’s ‘Lorraine’: “The plan was to be single for a while and then I accidentally fell in love with my co-star!”
Amber described her new boyfriend as a “ray of sunshine” in her life.
She shared: “Do you know what it is? He’s just an absolute ray of sunshine and he’s so loved by everyone on the cast.
“He’s an absolute powerhouse of a talent … and he’s one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve ever met.”
Meanwhile, Amber previously revealed that Dolly Parton encouraged her to avoid men and focus on her career.
The reality star was given the advice when she travelled to the US to talk to the country music legend about her role in the hit musical ‘9 to 5’.
Amber – who starred on ‘Love Island’ in 2017 – shared: “I’m still a party girl at heart, but I’ve realised it’s not my time for a man. I honestly don’t know what I’d do with one at the moment.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to pick up roles in the West End and I hope that’s going to be a platform for more acting, so my mentality has had to change. It was actually Dolly Parton who first gave me the advice.
“I always thought I’d be settling down by now, but I went out to meet her and she warned me to avoid the temptation of romance for now and focus on my career.
“She said, ‘Career first, men can wait for you’, and it turns out she was completely right.”

Davina McCall says exercise is important to her ‘menopause plan’

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall sees exercise as an important part of her “menopause plan”.
The 55-year-old TV presenter has opened up about her personal experience of the menopause, revealing that “exercise, eating right and taking time to look after number one” have been key for her.
She shared: “Exercise is massively important at any time of our lives, but it really comes into its own during perimenopause and menopause.
“Not only does it tackle middle-age spread, it keeps bones strong, keeps the mind alert, protects your heart, boosts your mood and helps you to sleep.
“As a starting point you should aim to exercise three times a week, and then see how you get on.”
Davina has also stressed the need to find enjoyable forms of exercise.
She said: “Don’t do something just because you feel you should. If it makes you feel uncomfortable or it’s boring, you won’t stick to it. If you haven’t exercised for a while, try something new.
“It could be Zumba or swimming, workouts at home, spin or running.
“The trick is to experiment.”
Davina – who has Holly, 21, Tilly, 19, and Chester, 16, with her ex-husband Matthew Robertson – has also underlined the importance of healthy eating.
She explained to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I often get asked about weight control in midlife. I’m not a dietitian, but my experience has been that I just don’t burn the same number of calories the older I get.
“Food can be a big emotional crutch in life when everything feels overwhelming. Menopause can be one of those times, too. You’re too knackered to cook, you’ve had a bad day at work, you’re feeling at a low ebb, and that big slab of chocolate looks tempting.
“If you know that weight has crept up on you, then you need a two-pronged attack to achieve meaningful weight loss – 20 percent exercise and 80 percent food.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration on ‘Doctor Who’ will be “visually very different”.
The 40-year-old actress is preparing to make her last outing as the Doctor, and showrunner Chris Chibnall has teased some details about her regeneration.

Chris also promised that there will be some “big surprises” in the landmark episode.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Chris explained: “There are so many Easter eggs in there for people who have been watching the show over the years. There are things for really, really hardcore fans, and even the more casual viewers. There’s lots to get your teeth into.”
Chris added that it will be the “biggest episode of ‘Doctor Who’ we’ve yet made”.
He shared: “It’s a huge, epic, fast roller coaster ride of an episode. It’s probably the biggest episode of ‘Doctor Who’ we’ve yet made. It features the return of Tegan and Ace from the classic series of ‘Doctor Who’, Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred who are phenomenal.
“It has an evil trio of monsters – the Daleks, Cybermen and The Master, played by Sacha Dhawan. And Sacha playing the Master as you’ve never seen him before in ‘Doctor Who’.
“It goes all across time and space, it’s connecting the past, present, and future of ‘Doctor Who’, it’s very exciting, it’s funny, and there will be tears at the end of the 13th Doctor.”

Jodie Whittaker says Doctor Who was ‘everything she wanted it to be’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Whittaker feels proud of her ‘Doctor Who’ legacy.
The 40-year-old actress made history when she became the first-ever female Doctor, and Jodie feels proud of what she managed to achieve during her time on the show, after previously saying that she wanted to bring “inclusivity and hope” to the series.
Jodie shared: “I suppose I can’t take much credit for most of it, because that is down to the writing.
“But that was the overriding feeling of the Doctor I wanted to bring. And I feel I was given that opportunity, and that this show, at this time, represents everything I wanted it to be.”
Jodie is set to make her final outing as the Doctor in an upcoming episode.
And the actress has confessed to being overcome with emotion during her last day on set.
She told The Big Issue: “Before they even finished checking the last take of the last scene, I was in bits. Even when we wrapped on a corridor we would always run down, or did the last costume checks with the person who’s stood by you through all this time. You know, even my last lateral flow test was emotional!”
Despite this, Jodie is convinced that her replacement, Ncuti Gatwa, will be a huge success on the show.
Jodie said: “Ncuti Gatwa doesn’t need any advice from me – he is far more qualified than me. He is absolutely amazing.
“I got caught up in the euphoria of it all like everyone else. But that’s the beauty of this job. You get to hand it on. And you get to discover, like a fan, where it is going to go next. And now I will get to watch it without being stressed out about whether I nail a speech or if anyone can understand my accent. I’ll get to watch something I love from the safety of my living room.”

Maya Jama will be great on Love Island, says Gemma Owen

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Owen thinks Maya Jama is a “really good fit” for ‘Love Island’.
The 28-year-old TV star was recently announced as Laura Whitmore’s replacement as the host of the ITV show, and Gemma believes she’s perfect for the role.
Gemma, 19 – who starred on the show earlier this year – told Digital Spy: “Amazing. Yeah, I think it’s a really good fit. I think she’ll be great for it.”
Maya is a self-confessed ‘Love Island’ fanatic and she recently revealed that she’s looking forward to hosting the show.
Maya – who dated rap star Stormzy between 2015 and 2019 – said: “I’ve always been such a massive ‘Love Island ‘fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows! I can’t wait to get into the villa to meet all of the Islanders.”

Rachel Zegler: Snow White remake is refreshing

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Zegler has promised a “refreshing” take on ‘Snow White’.
The 21-year-old star has been cast in the lead role for Disney’s live-action adaptation of the fairy tale and has hit back at those questioning the politically correct updates that will be included in the film – which has brought in consultants to address the representation of the dwarfism community on screen.
Rachel told Vanity Fair: “People are making jokes about ours being the PC ‘Snow White’, where it’s like, yeah, it is – because it needed that.
“It’s an 85-year-old cartoon, and our version is a refreshing story about a young woman who has a function beyond ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’.”
‘Snow White’ was criticised earlier this year by Peter Dinklage for its “f****** backwards” depiction of dwarfs.
The ‘Game of Thrones’ actor – who suffers from a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia – said: “There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on.
“Literally no offence to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”
Peter revealed that he was baffled by Disney’s positivity towards the film and suggested that he hadn’t campaigned hard enough for those with dwarfism to get better acting roles.
The 53-year-old actor said: “You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that f****** backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*** are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box? I guess I’m not loud enough.
“I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”
