Ben Stiller’s new movie was made ‘without cynicism and viciousness’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Stiller’s new movie ‘Nutcrackers’ was made “without cynicism and viciousness”.
The actor is back on screen for his first film role in seven years playing a workaholic who leaves the city and travels to rural Ohio to care for his four orphaned nephews – and Ben has revealed the script tempted him back into the spotlight because it was so wholesome and he was impressed by his young co-stars – brothers Homer, Ulysses, Atlas and Arlo Janson.
Speaking at a screening of the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, Ben explained: “I made a choice a few years ago I was only going to do something if it really resonated with me. I wanted to meet these boys and be part of this … ”
Director David Gordon Green added: “There was a part of me who thought there was a time to do something different. I challenged myself to make a movie without cynicism and viciousness.”
Ben went on to insist he wanted the film to be seen in cinemas rather than going straight to a streaming platform, adding: “It’s important for us to experience a movie like this in a theatre. We need more movies like this on screen. It’s nostalgic for us, but it’s what people enjoy.”
In in interview with Indiewire.com, Green admitted he wanted to make a movie his young kids could watch after directing a slew of horrors including ‘the Exorcist: Believer’ and three ‘Halloween’ films.
He explained: “For ‘Nutcrackers’, I wanted to make a movie my kids could see. I have young twin sons and I’m not going to let them watch a lot of the movies I’ve made …
“They are not making ‘Uncle Buck’ or ‘Home Alone’ right now. Or, they are in a polished, manicured way that goes to a streaming platform.
“You can plug your kids into those movies, but you’re not sharing those experiences. I wanted to make a movie that had the saltiness of ‘The Bad News Bears’ with messy, rough-around-the-edges kids.”

Yvette Fielding ‘never’ received an apology from the BBC over Blue Peter bullying: ‘I’m not bitter’

OHMYGOSSIP — Yvette Fielding “never” received an apology from the BBC over the way she was bullied on ‘Blue Peter’.
The 55-year-old presenter was just a teenager when she landed a hosting job on the broadcaster’s flagship children’s programme and previously claimed that her boss Biddy Baxter would tell her she was “fat and useless” but insisted that the “abuse” only gave her the impetus to carry on in the world of showbiz.
She told The Sun: “They have never apologised to me. It doesn’t bother me. I’m not bitter or unhappy about it. It was an experience.
“I went through it. And, you know, it gave me balls of steel to be able to carry on in this industry and to be able to start my own production company and with my husband.
“You have to be very strong to be able to be in this industry. You’ve got to have some guts.”
The former Most Haunted’ host – who has been married to Karl Beattie since 1999 and has William, 29, and 25-year-old Mary with him – previously told of how all she wanted to do was “please” her boss but the alleged behaviour of those above her left her a “shaking, gibbering wreck” live on air.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: “To me, the most important thing in a job was to please your boss and do the best that you can do. The problem was that I was trying to please my boss so much, but my boss seemed to be just incredibly cruel.
“I thought that I’d be doing OK and then I was told that I was useless.#
“Absolutely useless, again and again and again. It was like every time I did what I thought was right, she’d come back and say something awful or she’d just berate me in front of other people.”
She said: “You’ve got to be confident in front of eight million people twice a week and my confidence was just at an all-time low. I was a shaking, gibbering wreck.”

Hollyoaks star Annie Wallace leaves soap in shock exit: ‘I’m very upset…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Annie Wallace has left ‘Hollyoaks’ after almost 10 years.
The 59-year-old actress has played the role of Sally St. Claire on the Channel 4 soap opera since 2015 but was told just a matter of months ago that her time was up and was “very upset” by the way it all happened.
She told Metro.co.uk: “We were told at the end of March. There was a big day when the cast were told [if they were staying or going]. Some people came out and said it and others kept it to themselves so I decided to keep it to myself – to let people find out in the fullness of time. I just carried on.
“It’s been mostly ignoring that it’s going to happen and carrying on with work.
“It was when it was headed to the last few weeks that I started to get a bit emotional. I started thinking what costumes I was going to take home with me and things like that.
“The last filming days were really quite intense. My last day was July 31, so I’ve had a month to decompress – and I have decompressed. I was very upset. There is no lying about it. It’s my career and I love the show.”
The soap star is sure that her sudden exit will come as a “shock” to fans and regrets that her alter ego never managed to find love during her time in the village.
She said: “It will be a shock. There’s been no hints about Sally. There’s certain people on forums that think Sally has outlived her usefulness but I disagree. The one thing I would’ve loved is for her to find love.”

Will Mellor had to warn his mum about a ‘raunchy sex scene’ in The Teacher II

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor warned his mum about a “raunchy sex scene” in his upcoming drama.
The 48-year-old actor has been paired up with former ‘EastEnders’ star Kara Tointon in the new drama ‘The Teacher II’, which follows on from the 2022 series that starred Sheridan Smith, but had to make sure his mother was aware before she watched it that a particularly graphic scene would be a part of it.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “There’s lots of twists and turns. I had to warn my mum I have a raunchy sex scene.
“They have an intimacy coordi- nator on set to make everyone comfortable and she brought mints and chewing gum.
“Sex scenes are never sexy but we wanted to make this more passionate than usual.
“I only met Kara for the first time then we were naked.”
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star will,be seen on screen in the drama at some point later this year.
In the original psychological thriller, Sheridan played the titular role of Jenna Garve, a schoolteacher accused of sleeping with a student.
However, she has no memory of the alleged incident as she was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Sheridan – who found fame alongside Will when they both played jobless twentysomethings on the hit sitcom ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps in the early 2000s – previously admitted she wanted viers to “doubt” her character as they watched the show.
She told Radio Times magazine: “I love playing people who are flawed and complex like Jenna. She’s got a drink problem, she’s lost her mum, she has a really strained relationship with her dad and she’s just gone off the rails and lost herself a bit.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt set for Ocean’s return

OHMYGOSSIP — George Clooney and Brad Pitt are set to return for a new ‘Ocean’s’ movie.
The duo, who have teamed up once again for the action comedy film ‘Wolfs’, are set to reprise their roles as Danny Ocean and Robert ‘Rusty’ Ryan respectively in a new installment of the heist franchise.
According to Deadline, film chiefs are said to be courting ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ filmmaker Edward Berger to take on directorial duties after Steven Soderbergh – who helmed the original trilogy – opted not to return.
Warner Bros. and Smokehouse have been working hard on the picture and it is thought that Matt Damon and the rest of the star-studded ensemble will be returning for the film.
Clooney revealed last year that another ‘Ocean’s’ flick could be on the way as he was in possession of a “great script”.
The 63-year-old star told Uproxx: “We have a really good script for another ‘Ocean’s’ now, so we could end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script.”
Asked if the new movie would be titled ‘Ocean’s Fourteen’, Clooney replied: “Well… I don’t want to call it that… I mean, the idea is kind of like ‘Going in Style’.”
The original trilogy began with ‘Ocean’s 11’ in 2001 with sequels ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ following in 2004 and 2007 respectively but Soderbergh revealed earlier this year that he considered his work on the franchise to be complete.
The ‘Traffic’ director told Variety: “After we made the third movie, I felt like the series was very much concluded for me.
“When the studio approached me to see if I’d be involved in continuing the franchise, I told them no, because it just doesn’t feel like a move forward for me.
“I’m chasing something else.”

The 50-year-old actress has signed up to work on both sides of the camera in the comedy flick.

Ross Kemp speaks out on rumours of an EastEnders comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp is “very proud” of the ‘EastEnders’ legacy.
The 60-year-old actor got his big break when he was cast as Grant Mitchell in the BBC soap opera and appeared from 1990 until 2000 and then again briefly in the late 2000s but can neither confirm nor deny whether he will be making a comeback in time for its 40th anniversary.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, he said: “I can tell you nothing! I am very proud that the show is celebrating 40 years and I wouldn’t have had a career good or bad without it. I still love it, I still love it, and I still support it and I would do if I had come from ‘Coronation Street’ or, well, I was in ‘Emmerdale Farm’ briefly for a bit.
“I support it every way that I can. I can say no more than that. ”
Away from the soap, Ross has carved out a career as a hard-hitting documentary presenter and as he dives into the criminal underworld in the new Sky show ‘Ross Kemp: Mafia And Britain’, he revealed that an on set injury turned the whole thing into a medical show.
He said: “In the series, we go from being in the UK, to America, to Miami looking at the connections between the cocaine trade and I ended up…it stopped becoming a history programme and became real when I was at 4,000 feet and it was nearly 40 degrees at nighttime. I’ve got a helmet on, body armour and we’re traipsing round the mountains. I’m going ‘We’ll be out at 03:00!’ but we’re still stumbling around at eight o’clock in the morning. They often kidnap the soldiers and I lose the nail on my big toe. No longer a history documentary, now medical!”

will.i.am reveals why the new series of The Voice could be the ‘future’ of television

OHMYGOSSIP — will.i.am thinks the new series of ‘The Voice’ could “point to the future” of television.
The 49-year-old rapper has served as a coach on the ITV1 talent show since 2012 and revealed that the new edition of the programme will utilise artificial intelligence for the sake of mentoring contestants throughout the show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “That was Maisie, hey Maisie, she had an amazing idea to take the AI that we’ve been working on at FYI.ai and have them mentor my contestants this year so that is a TV first. I’m so happy to be rocking with ITV, this is my 13th year on ITV and this year is gonna be super spectacular. I think it is going to point the way to the future of television.”
The TV talent show returned to screens last Saturday (31.08.24), and the ‘Scream and Shout’ hitmaker was reunited with fellow judge Sir Tom Jones as they were seen alongside new co-stars, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones of McFly Fame and singer LeAnn Rimes, who took over from ‘2002’ hitmaker Anne-Marie.
The ‘Can’t Fight The Moonlight songstress was a new addition to the series alongside Tom -who replaced ‘Troublemaker’ singer Olly Murs following his five-year tenure on the panel – and she admitted her fellow newcomer was also moved to tears during the auditions.
She said: “He cried as much as I did. Both of us had a cry-off at some point be- cause we were both so moved by some of these artists.”
But Olly admitted that his sudden axing from the series came as “a bit of a shock” as he acquiesced that bosses would find “someone great” to fill his shoes.
Speaking in September, he told The Sun newspaper: “I’m gutted. I got the call last week to say I won’t be back on the show, and it’s a bit of a shock, to be honest. I didn’t really expect that to come.
“But I don’t want to sit here like other artists might, and shine and gloss this up and say, ‘It was my decision’. I don’t want to do that.
“I don’t want to… say, ‘Oh, it was an amicable decision to leave – I’ve got lots of things on next year, I can’t do it any more’.
“No. Genuinely, I accept their decision, and they’ll find someone great, I’m sure. But am I going to miss it? Yeah.
“Did I want to leave? No. Will I still watch the show? Of course, but it’ll be sore thinking that could have been me… .”

Joe Lycett reveals TV struggles: ‘I always hated doing studio recording…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Lycett “always hated” recording in a TV studio.
The 36-year-old comedian is known for appearing on shows like ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ and ‘Live at the Apollo’ but would struggle with live broadcasts because he worried about how “good he was and becomes frustrated with the way bosses sometimes treat the audiences at the studio.
Speaking on the ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast, he told former ‘Loose Women’ anchor Kate Thornton: “I always hated doing studio recording because I didn’t feel like it was very good and I didn’t feel like I was doing very well.
“They were like ‘At all costs, we do not go out til we’re live’. We don’t go out and do a bit of preamble really, we might do a tiny bit if we have to when we’re getting in position in front of the audience but ideally the first time the audience sees us is when we’re live on TV because you bring all that energy.
“It’s a gear change. And you would never do it in stand-up, but it’s a weird thing. TV kind of forgets its audience a lot of the time, the live audience that are there, and treats them like cattle. The stand-up in me is like ‘These people are God’, you treat them with such reverence, it’s all about them and they have to have a good time.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Late Night Lycett’ host noted that he is “happier” than he has ever been and tends to feel that way every year despite the odd thing that might “blindside” him in life.
He said: “Obviously, some years you get blindsided by some horrible thing that happens but every year in general, you get better and life gets happier. And I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, and next year that might well be the case again, which is exciting. That’s surely a good way of looking at the world and making life liveable.”

Dame Arlene Phillips was warned against having a baby in her forties: ‘They said I wouldn’t bond’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Arlene Phillips was warned against having a baby in her late forties.
The 81-year-old choreographer – who has Alana, 45, and 34-year-old Abi with partner Angus Ion – was 47 when she found out she was pregnant with her youngest and while she “never expected” that would be the case, she was able to get through it because of her attitude towards ageing despite what medics had to say.
Speaking on the ‘How to be 60’ podcast, she told ‘Loose Women’ anchor Kaye Adams: “Nothing ever made me think about my life and ageing together. I was 36 when I had Alana, and I’ve been very lucky, because the jobs I’ve done have allowed me to have a nanny on set, I could have my baby when I needed to feed, whatever I wanted.
“But I’d never thought about age, or being fit, even when I was 47 when I was having Abi and I was told it would be hard to bond with my little daughter because I really was the age of a grandmother and they said therefore I might not be able to understand what it’s like.
“So I said ‘I remember it very well, and I have been given a gift.
“Having a baby naturally at the age of 47, when I never thought I would get pregnant again, so trust me, I’ll bond.’
“I constantly got told that that as a geriatric mother, I should really think about it.
“No one thought it was safe at 47 to have a baby but I didn’t feel 47, it didn’t occur to me what 47 was, I just thought that this baby was a gift and my body was going to be able to withstand it.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge insisted – who has continued to work on West End and touring musicals such as ‘Guys and Dolls’ and ‘The Cher Show’ in the last few years – admitted that she has always had a “determined” streak and will always go after what she wants in life.
She said: “I am determined…and I don’t mean this in a mean or nasty way, but I’ve always been determined, and if I want something enough I have to work for it.
“I have to work for it, I have to go with it and I have to have my blinkers on and only listen to myself.”

Christoph Waltz was persuaded to join Dracula: A Love Tale by the doomed romance element

OHMYGOSSIP — Christoph Waltz was intrigued by the romantic element of ‘Dracula: A Love Tale’.
The Oscar-winning actor features in Luc Besson’s upcoming horror movie as the priest and revealed that the reimagining of Bram Stoker’s classic novel as a doomed love story was instrumental in him joining the cast.
Speaking to Collider, Christoph said: “I wanted to work with Luc and this angle on ‘Dracula’. I read the novel; I really think the novel is a drag. It’s boring, it’s flat. It’s popular because it was popular in the late 19th century.
“There have been ‘Dracula’ movies before. It needs to be seen clearly, but I wanted to work with Luc and Luc’s – it’s more than an angle, it’s more than an approach – Luc’s idea of the vision of the story is that ‘Dracula’ is a love story. So, that’s wonderful.”
Christoph is also starring in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of ‘Frankenstein’ and described it as “ridiculous” to be featuring in two legendary horror movies within a short space of time.
The 67-year-old actor said: “To be perfectly frank – and don’t give me away – it’s a little ridiculous. But it’s fun!
“It wasn’t engineered, it wasn’t planned. There was no scheme behind it, no strategy. It just happened that way. I find it amusing.”
Christoph also described what it was like to work under Besson’s direction as he lauded the filmmaker’s “energy”.
The ‘Django Unchained’ star said: “He is not in any way – forgive me for calling it such – corrupted by Hollywood mainstream. He’s a commercial filmmaker, he’s not an arthouse auteur kind of thing, even though he writes a script, he produces the movie, he directs it, he operates the camera. It’s his push and his energy.
“My first two weeks of the shoot were something I’ve never experienced before – the drive, the energy behind it, and the tempo.”

Mutya Buena exits Celebrity MasterChef

OHMYGOSSIP — Mutya Buena has exited ‘Celebrity MasterChef’.
The 39-year-old pop singer – who is best known for starring in the chart-topping girl group Sugababes – has become the latest contestant to leave the BBC show.
Speaking after her exit was confirmed, Mutya explained: “I’ve had such an amazing experience, so I am not hurting, I’m not disappointed.”
John Torode and Gregg Wallace, the ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ judges, ultimately opted to save Vito Coppola and Dominic Skinner instead.
Despite this, Mutya admitted to exceeding her own expectations during her time on the TV show.
She said: “This is further than what I thought I was going to get, so I’m happy to go home and sing.”
Prior to joining ‘MasterChef’, Mutya revealed that she was keen to develop her culinary skills.
The pop singer explained: “I wanted to do ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ because I enjoy cooking in general and I love cooking for my family and friends.
“I also wanted to learn some new things in the kitchen, some new tricks that I could bring home. I kind of kept it a secret from everyone that I was doing it!”
In spite of her enthusiasm, Mutya still felt anxious when she walked into the ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ kitchen for the first time.
The singer – who released her debut solo album, ‘Real Girl’, back in 2007 – said: “It was very nerve-wracking.
“I’ve obviously watched ‘MasterChef’, so to be in the kitchen itself was amazing. I wish I could do it all over again! I was so happy to have just been in the kitchen and in everyone’s presence.”

Winona Ryder ‘welled up with emotion’ stepping on set for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

OHMYGOSSIP — Winona Ryder “welled up with emotion” when she arrived on set for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’.
The 52-year-old actress reprises her role as Lydia Deetz in Tim Burton’s highly-anticipated sequel and it was particularly “special” to see Michael Keaton back in character as the titular ghost with the most.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I was welling up with emotion. To work with Michael again, someone who, like Tim, was so protective and encouraging to me at such a young age, was so special.
“It was so moving for me to be back in costume and in that environment. It felt so free, like it was an independent film and we could try anything.”
Winona said yes to the sequel before there was even a script.
She explained: “Like anything with Tim, it has to be right. It was never going to be a sequel just for the sake of it.”
But when she did get a script, the actress was shocked to find her character had a daughter of her own.
She said: “I have to admit it was an aspect of the character that surprised me at first.
“Because of who she is from the first film, I think you kind of imagine her staying a loner and maybe not having a kid as part of whatever life she does on to lead.
“But as soon as Tim explained his vision for the sequel and Lydia’s part in it as a mother herself now, I was excited.”
Despite her years of success since starring in ‘Beetlejuice’, Winona admitted her memories of shooting her breakout film has always been particularly “special” to her.
She added: “I remember it all… every moment. I remember how special it felt and how included I was made to feel by Tim.
“I had never experienced working on something in such a collaborative way before.
“To be that young, just 15, and to be asked what you think about a scene or an element of your character felt very special to me and I have always appreciated and cherished that experience.”

Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes’ English Patient reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Juliette Binoche says it was “joyful” to reunite on screen with Ralph Fiennes, 28 years after ‘The English Patient’.
The pair have teamed up for ‘The Return’, Uberto Pasolini’s retelling of Homer’s ‘Odyssey’ and Juliette jumped at the chance to work with her former co-star again.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “We remained friends, throughout all those years, since ‘The English Patient’. So it was just joyful to be able to reconnect onscreen. Ralph is not lying down this time, but I think Penelope is a kind of nurse, for being so patient of this ‘new patient’ who comes back to Ithaca.”
Ralph plays Odysseus, who arrives home to his kingdom Ithaca after 20 years away at war, to find his wife, Penelope (Binoche) a prisoner in her own home, fighting off suitors who want to marry her and rule Ithaca.
Ralph said: “Friendship isn’t always about working together. It’s about talking together, sharing a meal together but [the opportunity to reunite on screen] well it was a no-brainer. Juliette is like a compass for me, she has such an extraordinary, intuitive depth and understanding about what it is to act on film.
“This isn’t a Hollywood sword-and-sandals film, there is an austerity to it, and there are no gods, no monsters. Our Odysseus is a lost soul, a man bruised and scarred, psychologically scarred, by war, who returns home indecisive and unsure of whether he should reclaim his kingdom and take his revenge [on his wife’s suitors].
“We were aiming for a sort of sinewy look, of someone who has spent their life rowing, swimming and sailing and not eating a lot. Uberto was very anxious that I shouldn’t look like someone who’s been to the gym. And, frankly, at my age, I’m not going to put on a lot of muscle anyway. I put myself in the hands of this wonderful man, my trainer, and just surrendered to his will. What I learned is the key is a very strict diet. If you follow that, you shed unwanted flesh.”

Leigh Francis: ‘Nothing is acceptable any more’

OHMYGOSSIP — Leigh Francis says ‘Celebrity Juice’ was axed because “nothing is acceptable any more”.
The 51-year-old comedian hosted the show as his outrageous alter-ego Keith Lemon but claims it was cancelled because the innuendos and racy games it featured are no longer acceptable for today’s audience.
He told The Sun: “Just as fashion and flared trousers have come back round however many times, comedy tastes change.
“Now, nothing is acceptable any more — we had ‘the rules were the rules’ in past times, and they’re different now, so of course there are things back then that you wouldn’t do any more.
“You don’t set out to offend anyone, you just set out to make people laugh, but for me, now when I come up with an idea, it has to be a straight one, with just a bit of silliness.
“Quite a lot of comedians are now presenting straight shows, entertainment programmes that are funny, just maybe not as funny as a sketch show.
“And I think it’s a shame for the viewers who still want to see the comedy stuff that we made back in the day, even when we’ve got to change with the playing field and stick to the rules of the time.”
Leigh also revealed Keith was inspired by a childhood friend with the same name but the pal soon grew tired of the character.
He said: “I said I would give him a shout out on TV, so I gave him a character.
“For a while, I think the real Keith liked it, but then he got sick of explaining it to people, to the point he would carry around this black and white photo in his wallet of us together to explain he knew me.
“It had his name, and then the hair came from a man on holiday with bad Anthea Turner hair, and then there was the ’tache that was added, and finally the hats, which I only wore to meet Pharrell Williams at the Brits.
“With Keith, it’s because I liked to have a good time, but Keith . . . he didn’t know where to draw the line.
“I always say if my Keith had been a real person, he’d be dead now — he was all fun, fun, fun.”
