Karen Carney praises Sky Sports for helping the Barclays Women’s Super League ‘grow’

OHMYGOSSIP — Retired England footballer Karen Carney says Sky Sports commitment to the Barclays Women’s Super League will help the game “continue to grow and grow and grow”.
The 35-year-old former Birmingham City midfielder is part of the sports broadcaster’s punditry team and on the back of The Lionesses’ UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 win interest in the WSL has never been greater.
Karen insists the more women’s games that are shown the bigger the sport will become and she says Sky Sports are doing so many positive things to help the game grow.
Speaking at the ‘FIFA 23′ Women’s Football Summit, she said: “I think Sky having the WSL has been huge, they’ve gone after it, they’ve made it part of their portfolio of football and that’s epic and I’m sure it will continue to grow, they’ve only had it one year. It will continue to grow and grow and grow.”
Karen – who represented England at four FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 and at four UEFA Women’s Championships in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017 – says “exposure is key” to building on The Lionesses’ trophy success.
And the television expert the insists the inclusion of the Women’s Super League and the French Division 1 Féminine on new EA Sports video game ‘FIFA 23’ – which features Chelsea women’s player Sam Kerr on the front cover alongside Paris Saint Germain striker Kylian Mbappé – is a massive step forward for the women’s game.
She explained: “Exposure is key. Even if you don’t watch football but you play the ‘FIFA’ game you’re still educating yourself on the players, they’re still in your living room, and it’s still football, they’ve got a rating, you know who they play for, you know their positions, you know their strengths, you know their weaknesses, it’s an educational piece as much as a game.
“For me, that improves the profile of the players and the sport. That’s what we want. For 10 million people to have it in the first week to play is incredible. It will only get bigger.”
As well as breakdown WSL games, Karen is also a regular pundit on the Premier League games broadcast by Sky Sports and she has been delighted with the response from all football fans to the inclusion of female pundits for men’s matches.
Karen – who will be part of the ITV punditry team for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – said: “I’ve not seen any kick back. It’s been really good, I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Fleur East ‘praying’ Strictly partner Vito Coppola has to wear ‘a really bad wig’

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleur East is “praying” her dance partner Vito Coppola has to wear “a really bad wig” this weekend.
The ‘Sax’ hitmaker wants her 31-year-old dance partner to sport the “long hair” previously sported by Abba’s Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson as they gear up to perform a jive to the super group’s hit ‘Waterloo’ – which Abba won the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ with in 1973 – on the BBC Latin and ballroom competition on Saturday night (22.10.22).
While presenting her Hits Radio Breakfast Show with Vito as a guest, the 34-year-old singer said: “This might be my favourite thing about this weekend. The thing is the original Abba collective have all got long hair, including the guys, but Vito doesn’t. Which means they may have to put a wig on him. I am praying they put a really bad wig on him, but we haven’t seen anything yet.”
The pair scored 38 points out of 40 last week for their Argentine Tango, and Vito believes they should at least be replicating that.
He said: “Thirty-eight is the minimum we should achieve this week I think, or 39 or 40 – no pressure of course! It’s a new number and a new challenge. The jive is a lot of fun, a lot of knee hops and kicking and pointing toes. I think Fleur’s muscles are almost destroyed. But we will be bringing the Eurovision atmosphere to Strictly – and you have to see the outfits and you need to look out for the hair.”

Working mum Helen Skelton talks importance of ‘me time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton has admitted she struggles with mum guilt, but insists it is important to have some “me time” away from her kids now and again.
The ‘Countryfile’ presenter – who has moved back in her with parents since splitting from her husband, 32-year-old rugby player Richie Myler – has spoken about life as a single mother, but says she tries not to feel bad about having some time away from the former couple’s kids Ernie, seven, Louis, five, and nine-month-old Elsie.
She said: “To me, one of the biggest, most liberating things it to put your phone away.
“Put your phone on a shelf, put your phone in a drawer, get yourself an alarm clock because it’s so easy to get sucked into work emails and extra tasks. Clearly, if you are a conscientious person, you always think you can do a bit more and do a bit extra. But box it off, your working day finishes at a certain point.
“I’ve said it before, feel free to delegate. You know there are other working mums out there, who might want to do extra, who might want to do some ironing, who might want to do some cleaning. If you can’t fit that into your day, feel free to delegate some things out.
“The thing that I am hanging on to, that I encourage everybody to do, including myself, was tell other people when you are carving out that me time for yourself, that’s your little backyard of protecting yourself – and lists, lists are good, write down what you need to do and it’s out of your brain.”
Helen believes mums “don’t help each other enough”, and admits she is quite happy to invite her kids’ friends around to play with them, because she knows the favour will be returned on another occasion.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she added: “It’s a trade-off. My friends will then have my kids over for tea or flip flop taking the boys to football, so that you are helping someone else, you’ll feel better about that but you are getting yourself that window of opportunity to do something for you.
“I don’t think mums help each other enough. It’s not a competition, it takes a village and we are all in this together.”
It was recently revealed Helen’s ex Richie is expecting a baby with his new girlfriend, Stephanie Thirkill.

Priscilla Presley won’t feature in Naked Gun reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Priscilla Presley doesn’t want to feature in the ‘Naked Gun’ reboot.
The 77-year-old star played Jane Spencer Drebin – the wife of Leslie Nielsen’s hapless Detective Frank Drebin – in the original comedy trilogy but wants no part in the planned revival that has Liam Neeson in talks to star in the lead role.
Priscilla told the Evening Standard newspaper: “No, I won’t (be in it)! I wouldn’t do it really if I was asked because you don’t fix something that’s already fixed.
“That movie I don’t think can be rebooted in the way that Leslie Nielsen and I did it. It was just a great relationship and friendship and we got along great on the set and that was just all fun and what a great experience.
“Now, in this one, gosh, the actors who are playing the characters, I can’t see it visually. Maybe it will come across as great, but I wouldn’t be a part of it.”
Plot details for the movie are yet to be revealed but Liam could be playing the son of Detective Frank Drebin rather than stepping into Nielsen’s shoes. Akiva Schaffer is set to direct the film.
The original ‘Naked Gun’ movie was a huge hit when it was released in 1988 and spawned two sequels in the 1990s.
Priscilla was married to music icon Elvis Presley from 1967 until 1973 and fans will get to see the love story from her side in Sofia Coppola’s biopic ‘Priscilla’ – which follows Baz Luhrmann’s successful movie ‘Elvis’ earlier this year.
Discussing the upcoming project – which is based on her 1986 memoir ‘Elvis and Me’ – Priscilla said: “I’m honoured – flattered more, that (Coppola) would want to do that.
“I like her very much, I have seen her movies. She’s a very sensitive writer so I’m hoping that she gets it right, especially with my relationship with Elvis.”

Pierce Brosnan ‘overwhelmed’ to star in Black Adam

OHMYGOSSIP — Pierce Brosnan was “overwhelmed” to land a part in ‘Black Adam’.
The 69-year-old star plays Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate in the new DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie and says that the chance to appear in a comic book movie helped him realise a childhood dream.
Pierce told the Daily Express newspaper: “I’ve always loved the comic book genre and I love these movies.
“They’re spectacular, so to be part of ‘Black Adam’ is just monumental. When I was offered this role I was so overjoyed, so overwhelmed, really.”
Pierce’s alter ego wears a golden helmet as part of his costume and the former James Bond actor revealed that it was challenging on set as he couldn’t see a thing when wearing it.
He said: “The helmet was just like putting a bucket on your head. It was pitch black in there. Yet, I had faith they would make me look magnificent as Dr. Fate.”
Brosnan had to wear a tight-fitting motion capture suit for the part but explained that he wasn’t embarrassed by his look as he has worked in theatre and circuses previously.
The actor said: “When you have the mocap suit that’s a story all unto itself.
“It can be highly embarrassing. But thankfully I worked in the theatre, did pantomime, street theatre and circus work, so I can step out there and hold my head high.”
‘Black Adam’ producer Beau Flynn recalled being delighted that Pierce agreed to star in the film.
He said: “When we were able to secure Pierce, that was a huge win for us… Pierce was our first choice.
“He was so excited, because he said all of his peers had done superhero movies, or had done ‘Harry Potter’ films, and he had not done one.”

Kurt Johnstad to pen script for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Prophet

OHMYGOSSIP — Kurt Johnstad is set to pen the script for Jake Gyllenhaal’s new movie ‘Prophet’.
The action writer has signed up to Studio 8’s adaption of the comic series by Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, which will star Gyllenhaal with ‘Extraction’ filmmaker Sam Hargrave set to direct.
Johnstad is best known for writing ‘300’, the adaptation of the Frank Miller comic series, along with Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde and the upcoming ‘Rebel Moon’ with ‘300’ director Zack Snyder.
‘Prophet’ is based on the character of John Prophet, a man who gains superhuman strength after being subjected to scientific experiments by the Germans during World War II.
After being trapped underground for 20 years, he reemerges in 1965 to a changed world, with a daughter who resents him.
Marc Guggenheim wrote the original script.
Meanwhile, Jake, 41, is also in talks to star in a ‘Road House’ remake.
The actor is set to team up with director Doug Liman in a new take on the 1989 action film.
The original flick starred the late Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a bouncer hired to clean up The Double Deuce – one of the rowdiest and loudest bars in Missouri. Dalton is then put to the test when he has to protect the town from the corrupt businessman Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara).
‘Road House’ had a modest box office response but has since gained cult status.
It is unknown whether the new film will be a straight remake or a modern take on the material.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could ‘identify’ with Black Adam because of his brown skin

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could “identify” with Black Adam because of his brown skin.
The 50-year-old actor stars in the title role of the new superhero movie and explained that while he grew up as a fan of classic DC character Superman, he was “mesmerised” upon seeing Black Adam for the first time and is “thrilled” to be making the movie.
He said: “I grew up a DC fan as a little boy. I’m still a little boy. DC all the way and when I first saw ‘Superman’ – that was always my favourite. But when I saw my first Black Adam comic, I was mesmerised. He looked so intense, he was cool and he wore black and gold. And he had brown skin so I could really identify with him and I thought ‘I wanna be that guy.’ So this idea of being Black Adam has been with me since I was a little boy and this has been a passion project of mine. I have fought very hard for this, for 15 years this movie has been in the making. So I’m thrilled.”The ’Jungle Cruise’ star went on to explain that it would have been “harder” for him to make the movie back in 2007 because it was difficult to get studios to invest in a superhero project that was not based around well-known characters like Batman or Superman.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, he added: “15 years ago, I was in a different place in my career and also – back then – it was harder for our studio partners to look past the Justice League. I was asking them to invest in a property that was not man Batman, Superman, Superwoman, or Wonderwoman. It was just a bit more challenging for them so see it. And so, the whole goal was to help build out the DC universe. It just took a lot of time and I get it, I understand, the easier bat is that everyone knows Batman or Superman.
“Black Adam is an anti-hero, he’s also a protector. It’s raising a lot of great dialogue. There is a code of ethics and honour that superheroes uphold bringing the bad guys to justice. ”
‘Black Adam’ was released in cinemas on Friday 21 October.

Jayde Adams ‘laughs with trolls’ who mock her weight

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’s Jayde Adams has revealed she “laughs with trolls” who mock her weight.
The 37-year-old comedian refuses to let the hurtful comments upset her and she has engaged with her detractors in order to show resilience.
Speaking on BBC Sounds Woman’s Hour with Krupa Padhy, Jayde said: “I knew it was going to happen to me because every time I’m on TV someone comments on my weight, I just knew it was going to happen.
“I could do one of two things, I could ignore it, or I could tackle it. I found it funny, I could show people who follow me some resilience.
“Someone wrote, ‘this is Jayde Adam’s rocking up to Strictly’, with a picture of the Michelin Man, and I laughed!
“I don’t want people to say stuff like that but these people want to have a reaction. The most useful thing to do it to not get at them, it’s to show resilience because it’s never going to stop.”
Meanwhile, Jayde previously called her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partnership with Karen Hauer a “sisterhood”.
The comedian revealed the partnership brings back memories of dancing with her late sister, who died of a brain tumour in 2011.
She said: “I think my partnership with Karen is more about sisterhood. And if you’re in the dance world, which I was as a child, the sort of all-girl and all-male partnerships is quite commonplace.
“Obviously it’s a new thing in these dance shows, the one that’s in Australia and the one that’s in America, but I think the world is changing and to me it just doesn’t seem like anything that is abnormal to me. It seems like a completely natural thing.
“When I danced with my sister, I was the base and I used to lift her all the time and actually the last time I danced was actually with my sister… so this felt really natural for me.”

Gemma Owen and Luca Bish ‘closer than ever’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Owen and Luca Bish are “closer than ever” and don’t feel the need to prove their romance is solid.
The ‘Love Island’ runners up have yet to move in together but friends insist their romance is going from strength to strength.
A source told The Mirror: “There is lots of talk and rumours about a showmance amongst this year’s contestants but it certainly isn’t Luca and Gemma that everyone is talking about.
“Luca and Gemma are closer than ever, they don’t feel the need to ham it up on social media every day.
“Both have lots going on but they’re staying together most nights and when they do have to be apart, they are constantly on the phone with each other.”
Luca, 23, and Gemma. 19, are currently navigating a long-distance romance but Gemma revealed their families have hit it off.
She recently told MailOnline: “Luca fits in quite well and he gets on with my siblings, my mum and my dad as well.
“His family are lovely too – I get on with all of them really well and have a good relationship with his sister.
“I have really enjoyed spending time in Brighton with them when I can and the same when he comes to Cheshire.
“In terms of my relationship and Luca – it’s all going really well. Luckily, we’re able to spend time together so the relationship is going really well and it’s all positive.”

In a statement, she said: “I had such a blast working with Eli Roth, Crypt TV and Meta to bring this terrifying tale to life.

Roth added: “I love the format for storytelling and have wanted to make a truly immersive horror piece for years. I wanted to build the ultimate haunted house, and Meta enabled me to bring my vision to life.”

Meanwhile, Vera previously warned ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ would have audiences soiling themselves in fear.
During an appearance on ‘Smallzy’s Celebrity Small Talk’, host Kent Small jokingly suggested that two pairs of underwear were needed to watch the film, Vera laughed: “It’s a real colon cleanse, isn’t it?”
The 47-year-old actor boldly declared that he had never been scared of anything when filming the horror movies, including scenes with the infamous possessed Anabelle doll, although he teased t were some spooky goings on when they shot the first movie ‘The Conjuring’.

The Warrens investigated the Annabelle case in 1970 when a student nurse contacted them to claim a Raggedy Ann doll was inhabited by an evil demon. The doll is housed at the Warrens occult museum and has been one of the main antagonists in ‘The Conjuring Universe’.
Patrick has been up close with the real doll but insisted he was not scared by the toy potentially being possessed.
He said: “I’ve been in there – to the Warrens’ house – where the real Annabelle is and, like, we made ours.
“Ours is a prop, there’s like eight of them, they’re like dolls! To me, they’re just creepy dolls and there’s no reason that those dolls should actually scare people.”

Molly Mae Hague: I have cried every single day during the early stages of pregnancy

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly-Mae Hague has “cried every single day” during the early stages of her pregnancy.
The 23-year-old influencer is currently expecting a baby girl with boyfriend Tommy Fury but admitted that during the first seven weeks of her pregnancy, her emotions were running “very high” and she felt “very sad” even though all of her dreams are coming true.
She said: “I had extreme emotions up to seven weeks, so from finding out to about seven or eight weeks, I was so so so emotional, I cried literally every single day. Emotions were very high and I felt sad a lot which was very weird because all our dreams had come true, I had fallen pregnant. I was so so happy but I couldn’t feel that happiness yet. Up until eight weeks, I felt quite sad, which I didn’t expect.”
The former ‘Love Island’ star went on to add that she would often lie awake at night after suffering “really bad nightmares” and has experienced “intense hunger” since becoming pregnant.
Speaking in a new video posted to YouTube, she added: “I have also written down her insomnia during my first trimester, I had really bad night sleeps. I would just be lying there wide awake in bed, I also had really bad nightmares, really vivid dreams. My main symptom throughout my whole pregnancy has been hunger, especially through my first trimester, the hunger was unlike anything I have ever, ever, experienced. I knew that pregnant women ‘eat for two’ and you experience hunger, but I didn’t realise it was a clinical, medical thing. Sometimes I have been in the car with Tommy and been like ‘if you don’t pull over to a service station right now and help me get some food, I am going to collapse on the floor’. That was the levels it was, it was unbelievable.”

When host Joel Dommett told Bruno he had been “astonishingly good” on the show, Bruno quipped: “Why did I not win then? Maybe because I stopped dancing in 1983! In fact, it was a terrible mistake. I thought ‘Oh yeah, I love ‘The Masked Singer’, I love that. I’ll do that, then I saw it said dancer and thought ‘You’ve gotta be kidding me!’ You should always lead your contracts!”
The Italian-born star had feigned a cockney accent early on in his run on the show, prompting rumours that ‘EastEnders’ actor Danny Dyer was in the costume but explained that it was too hard to keep up.
Guest judge John Bishop – who was filling in for Jonathan Ross due to illness – said: “What I love about this, is that people have gone up to Danny Dyer and said ‘Is it you?'”
Bruno said: “It was hard week ‘aving to talk like that, mate!”

Glee star Heather Morris wins The Masked Dancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Heather Morris has won ‘The Masked Dancer.’
The 35-year-old actress is best known for playing the role of cheerleader Brittany S. Pierce on the Fox series ‘Glee’ but sought off competition from the likes of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star Bruno Tonioli and Broadway star Adam Garcia while masquerading as Scissors to become the 2022 champion of the ITV series.
Following her win, she told host Joel Dommett: “I can’t believe I won! Oh my gosh! All those guesses made me think ‘Wow! I could be so many people!’ I was a dancer for Beyonce and I did the ‘Single Ladies’ tour, that’s why I did ‘Single Ladies’ particularly because I was one of two backup dancers. I taught the ‘Glee’ dance and that’s how I got the job because I had to teach the actors ‘Single Ladies.’ The bowl of cereal was Cheerios because of I cheerio cheerleader on ‘Glee.’
Prior to the revelation, guest judge Dawn French had hoped it was Heather Morris because she is such a “huge fan”, whilst Peter Crouch incorrectly guessed it was Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt and Davina McCall had thought it was either her bandmate Ashley Roberts or actress Cameron Diaz.
Heather – who has been married to Taylor Hubbell since 2015 and has Elijah, nine, and Owen, six, with him – went on to add that it was her children who inspired her to take part in the show in the first place because they are all “huge fans” of the ITV franchise.
She added: “I have had the best time. This has made my heart so full. I feel like a little kid again dancing on stage. My kids at home, I have two boys at home and we are huge ‘Masked’ fans. My oldest – during the pandemic – would make masks himself. He made a Hippo mask out of cardboard so when I got the call for this I just said ‘Of course, I’m going to do this, my kids will be in awe of me!'”
Heather then closed out the series with an unmasked performance of her dance choreographed to Aretha Franklin’s hit ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T’

Kym Marsh had a ‘dodgy day’ ahead of closing out Strictly Come Dancing Week 5

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh had a “dodgy confidence day” ahead of closing out week five of ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress, 46, is currently taking part in the BBC ballroom competition alongside professional partner Graziano Di Prima and admitted she wanted to “come out fighting” after landing in the bottom two last week.
Speaking immediately after the performance on Saturday (22.10.22), she told host Claudia Winkleman: “I felt pretty confident going in. I’ve had a dodgy day when it comes to confidence levels today but the team and everybody here has just picked me up so I can’t thank you all enough for that. It’s really lovely to have everyone’s support. We honestly can’t thank anyone enough and being in the dance-off last week was horrible but we wanted to come out fighting.”
The dancing pair eventually received a total of 27 for their Quickstep to Sweet hit ‘Ballroom Blitz’ TV themes week – which was done as part of the 100 Years of the BBC celebrations- with Motsi Mabuse describing the number as a “ray of sunshine.”
She said: “It felt like a ray of sunshine lighting everything up again. You both look beautiful. There was some places where I felt like the posture was a bit loose and then I could see the uncertainty in your eyes. But there’s no need for that, you know you’ve improved and you know that you work hard.”
Head Judge Shirley Ballas thanked the pair for the “memory” of recreating the classic dance programme as they danced to theme tune of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ predecessor ‘Come Dancing’ – which first aired 1949 on the BBC – but remarked that it “wasn’t their best dance” and eventually scored them a six.
She said: “Thank you for the memory, I was 17 when I first went on ‘Come Dancing.’ so that was lovely and I had a dress like that so I had a trip down memory lane, it was beautiful. I think stamina lacked a bit today. You will often get away with a foot error, you will not get away with a collapsed frame. Grazia – you were encouraging but it wasn’t your best dance today.”
Elsewhere, former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter Helen Skelton and her partner Gorka Marquez took joint first place on the leaderboard by dancing the Charleston to the theme tune to the flagship children’s TV show with a score of 35, along with ‘Countryfile’ star Hamza Yassin
and his partner Jowita Przystał, who impressed with their Quickstep to ‘On Top of the World.’
Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe danced the Tango to the theme tune of long-running BBC medical drama ‘Casualty’ and scored a total of 29, and filled out the lower end of the leader board fellow comedienne Jayde Adams and Karen Hauer, who danced the Charleston to ‘The Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let’s Do It)’, by late BBC comedy legend Victoria Wood.
Footballer Tony Adams and partner Katya Jones crashed into last place on the leaderboard, having only managed to score 19 points for their performance of the Cha Cha to the theme from 1980s BBC sports classic ‘Grandstand.’
