Graham Norton was shocked by star-studded rumour mill ahead of wedding

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton was stunned when locals claimed Lady Gaga and Sir Elton John had been spotted in Ireland ahead of his wedding.
The 61-year-old talk show host married Jonathan McLeod in Bandon, West Cork – where the comedian was raised – in 2022, and ahead of the nuptials the rumour mill went into overdrive with residents speculating that various A-list stars, who Graham regularly interviews on his chat show, would be in attendance.
Speaking on the first night of his An Evening with Graham Norton book tour – to celebrate the publication of ‘Frankie’ – at London’s Peacock Theatre, he said: “We got married but everyone in Bandon knew.
“You can imagine the rumour mill. I talk to celebrities for a living but I know practically none.
“People in Bantry said they saw Lady Gaga at Cork Airport, Elton John was seen in the local pub.
“Imagine being the man and somebody mistook you for Elton John. That is a cruel day.”
But Graham will be seen rubbing shoulders with several celebrities soon, after confirming his chat show is making another return with some “big stars”.
He said: “We are back with the chat show at the end of the month.
“I don’t say who the guests are as it will jinx it but we have some big stars.”
Graham was “surprised” he got married, because he had got to a stage in life where he didn’t think he would ever wed.
But he is “glad” he waited until later in life to tie the knot.
According to The Sun newspaper, he added: “I did not see that happening in my life. I am glad I waited. It is quite nice to get married at my stage in life.
“There are perks, like the vows. At my age ‘til death do us part’ is more achievable.
“I have got things in my fridge that will outlast me.”

Tamzin Outhwaite shares personal connection she felt to her role in Channel 5’s The Wives

OHMYGOSSIP — Tamzin Outhwaite felt a deep connection with her character Sylvie in the new Channel 5 series ‘The Wives’.
The ex ‘EastEnders’ actress, 53, stars as a housewife looking into the death of her sister-in-law in the new series, and she could “really relate” to her character having a “rebirth post-divorce”.
Tamzin – who has kids Flo, 16, and Marnie, 12, with her ex husband, Tom Ellis – told OK! magazine: “Sylvie talks about the fact that she’s having a midlife crisis. I don’t think she really is.
“I think she’s having a rebirth post-divorce and this is the beginning of her new life. So I could really relate to that.”
Tamzin is joined on the programme by fellow soap icons Jo Joyner, known for her role as Tanya Branning in ‘EastEnders’, and Angela Griffin, who gained fame as Fiona Middleton in ‘Coronation Street’.
She teased of the new series: “It’s a feminine feast of friendship and fatalities with a little sprinkle of vodka and tequila.
“The twists and turns are quite unexpected after episode one.”
However, the actress was attracted to the project for more than just the opportunity to work with her close friends abroad.
She described her character, Sylvie, as “Samantha from ‘Sex and the City’”, and said the character played an important role in the representation of females on television.
Tamzin explained: “The majority of the people that are watching TV are women of a certain age and we don’t often see ourselves on TV. For me, I thought these relationships are brilliant.
“I love the women, I love the fact that it’s about the women and I love their relationships. I thought the characters were really well drawn.”

Joel Dommett teases ‘very different’ NTAs opening but admits it may ‘go wrong’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett has teased “something very different” for the opening of this year’s National Television Awards – but admitted it has the potential to “go wrong”.
The ‘Masked Singer’ host will present the TV awards ceremony from London’s The O2 on Wednesday (11.09.24), and he has told viewers to keep an eye out for the opening segment.
Speaking on Capital Breakfast to Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, he said: “We are starting it slightly different, we’re basically – I’m gonna tease it – we’re just doing something very different for the opening of the NTAs this year.
“Big tease! I’m not going to say anything more than that but it’s very exciting and potentially will go wrong.”
Comedian Joel – who also hosts ‘The Masked Dancer’ – recently told how he would love to land his own chat show, and he would also look to make that “different” from the others on the small screen.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TV Mag: “Genuinely I would love to have my own chat show. I really would love to.
“Someone else said that to me recently, and it’s very difficult to know what people sort of want from me.
“It’s definitely something I would love to do and try to make it your own, and make it different.
“Especially because I feel, like, I know everyone now, you know.
“It’s getting to that point where hopefully I’m becoming a little bit more trusted, I suppose, in the industry.
“If people would watch it, I will happily do it.”

TOWIE’s James Argent dating former Miss Sweden model

OHMYGOSSIP — James ‘Arg’ Argent is dating a former Miss Sweden star.
The ‘TOWIE’ legend was spotted passionately smooching 31-year-old Nicoline Artursson – who was Miss Sweden in 2011 – in the sea in St. Tropez, and they were also seen on a romantic walk along the beach with one another.
According to The Sun newspaper, Arg whisked his new love off for a romantic weekend away to the French Riviera coastal town.
It comes after James admitted earlier this year that he “really struggled” on Valentine’s Day, because he didn’t have a girlfriend.
The 36-year-old singer and reality TV star – who split from Stella Turian in November after a year-long romance – told the ‘My Dirty Laundry’ podcast: “I’m in a really good place. Everything in my life is perfect, apart from my love life.
“It would be nice if that would change.
“I’ll be completely honest, this year I really struggled on Valentine’s Day. I remember, I woke up and thought, I am not going to look at social media.
“It’s not that I’m heartbroken or upset, but just because I knew it’s not going to make me feel great because I didn’t have a Valentine, I don’t have a girlfriend.
“But, I couldn’t help it. There was times where I’d just have a little glance and all you would see was couples. Everyone’s madly in love. Everyone’s happy.
“Everyone’s out on dates. There’s flowers, there’s balloons, there’s chocolates, there’s date nights or trips or happily married couples – and yeah, it did start to affect me a little bit.”
However, James admitted he was “happy again” and “fine” after a good night’s sleep.
He added: “If you get a good night’s sleep, the next day is always a new day and it wasn’t that bad.
“For some reason, Valentine’s Day this year, I didn’t think it would even bother me, but it wasn’t a great experience.”
In January, Arg admitted he is hoping to find his “future wife” this year.
During an appearance on ‘Lorraine’, during which host Lorraine Kelly asked if he was ready to get back on the dating scene, he said: “I’m not looking for it – if it happens, sure. I’m not chasing it.”

Waterloo Road generates 6.5m for local economy since BBC return

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Waterloo Road’ has generated £6.5 million for the local economy since it returned to the BBC.
The school-set drama, which aims to authentically portray lives seen less often on screen, made a comeback in January 2023 after eight years away.
The first three series since the return has generated at least £6.5 million in gross value added (GVA) for Greater Manchester, and over £9.5 million for the broader North West area, according to the BBC.
Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, said: “‘Waterloo Road’ is a brilliant example of the BBC’s commitment to back the best homegrown storytelling right across the UK.
“It’s a series that helps nurture and champion local talent and directly supports the economy in the North West.
“It’s also part of a much bigger story. The BBC now invests more than 60 per cent of its TV budget outside of London – supporting hundreds of production companies and suppliers.”
The show – which features Jason Manford as new headteacher Steve Savage – also has several initiatives to foster creative talent, including working with a broad range of writers, directors and producers, many of whom were new to hour-long drama.
What’s more, Waterloo Road’s production team is training 35 aspiring professionals in key craft areas, with many securing further industry roles and some continuing with the production, and also providing hands-on experience to 30 young people, from a diverse range of backgrounds, in TV and film.
Also, the show is reaching more than 300 students from Greater Manchester schools and youth groups, igniting interest in TV and film careers, via outreach sessions held across the region.
Cameron Roach, Executive Producer for Rope Ladder Fiction, said: “Manchester is in the lifeblood of Waterloo Road, the sense of pride the cast and crew have for the show is absolutely connected to its Greater Manchester base.
“The production of ‘Waterloo Road’ in the region has not only made a significant impact on the local economy, but it has also helped energise a vibrant creative sector in a region where the screen industries are flourishing.”
‘Waterloo Road’ is set and made in Greater Manchester and produced by Wall to Wall in co-production with Rope Ladder Fiction.
The brand-new 14th series starts on Tuesday night (10.09.24) on BBC One.

Francis Ford Coppola: Megalopolis will give hope to audiences

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Ford Coppola says that ‘Megalopolis’ presents a “vision of hope”.
The legendary filmmaker has helmed the epic new movie that centres on the construction of the utopian city of New Rome and feels that it sends a message of optimism to audiences.
Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, Francis said: “It’s a Roman epic, what can I say? It’s a dive into a world that exists more than it should. Of course, it’s about loyalty, but ultimately in the end it’s a vision of hope.
“There’s always the vision of human beings that are great and are capable of dealing with any challenge they have to make a beautiful world for ourselves and for our children. It’s a hopeful film.”
‘Megalopolis’ has been a long-term passion project for ‘The Godfather’ director and he says that the story is inspired by what he discovered in historical accounts of both ancient Rome and modern New York City, although it is not “made up”.
Coppola, 85, said: “If you said what about that nutty thing, or that weird thing? I can tell you where I got that from. I didn’t make it up.”
The director recently revealed how he deliberately cast “cancelled” actors such as Shia LaBeouf – who was accused of sexual assault in 2021 – and Jon Voight – one of the few Donald Trump supporters in the movie industry – because he didn’t want his picture to be dismissed as “some woke Hollywood production”.
He explained to Rolling Stone magazine: “What I didn’t want to happen is that we’re deemed some woke Hollywood production that’s simply lecturing viewers.
“There were people who are archconservatives and others who are extremely politically progressive. But we were all working on one film together. That was interesting, I thought.”

Angelina Jolie embraces the ‘extremes’ of war films

OHMYGOSSIP — Angelina Jolie is “drawn” to making movies about war.
The 49-year-old star’s latest directorial effort ‘Without Blood’ is set during an unspecified conflict and she described the way in which her humanitarian work has showcased how war highlights the “extremes of the human condition”.
Speaking to Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival, Angelina said: “I think conflict tends to bring out absolutely the worst in our behaviour toward each other and often the best, when those who fight against or rise above.
“As artists, a lot of our work is this study of what it is to be human. So these extremes of the human condition are what we’re trying to understand sometimes and are drawn to.
“Certainly I’m somebody who, as I’ve travelled and done other (humanitarian) work in the field, I’ve always questioned why and how.”
Jolie’s film features Salma Hayek and Demian Bechir in the lead roles of Nina and Tito and the former admits that she was reluctant to star in the flick because of the “pain” her character has to suffer.
The 58-year-old actress said: “I was afraid to play this part. I was not immediately jumping in it because she suffers so much, my character, and I had to go there and suffer for the entire time of the shooting.
“You cannot expel the pain. You have to keep it boiling, boiling, boiling for hours, for days, for weeks. So I was terrified and I didn’t want to do it.”
Hayek continued: “The more we talked about it… I started seeing myself, my own traumas, the traumas of people that I know, that are close to me, in this character that was so foreign at the beginning and where I didn’t want to go.
“I started realising, ‘What do you mean you don’t want to go? You’ve always been there.’ I started seeing how it connected to so many women even if you’re not post-war. We’ve all been tossed aside and not seen or abused in one way or another.”

Jake Quickenden leaves Celebrity MasterChef

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Quickenden has exited ‘Celebrity MasterChef’.
The 36-year-old star has become the latest contestant to be sent home from the BBC show, after he failed to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
After his early exit was announced, Jake said: “It is disappointing that I’m leaving because I was having fun lots of the time.”
The former ‘X Factor’ star actually found the show to be much more challenging than he initially imagined it would be.
However, Jake still loved the experience and appreciated being given the opportunity to test his cooking skills.
He said: “It was much more challenging than I ever thought, but I got to cook in a restaurant.
“I got to see some Vikings. I’ve had a right laugh, so I’m really happy.”
Jake previously confessed to being a long-time fan of ‘MasterChef’.
The TV star also revealed that he was looking forward to the challenge of appearing on the show.
He shared: “I really wanted a new challenge – cooking for me wasn’t something that came super natural and my skills were pretty basic, so for me it was about setting myself a new challenge whilst also learning on the show.
“I’ve always loved watching ‘MasterChef’ so I was dying to do it myself.”
Despite this, Jake confessed to relying on his air fryer at home.
Asked what his friends and family think of his cooking, Jake replied: “My wife Sophie is the better cook, put it that way!
“I mostly rely on an air fryer, often throwing meals together that I’ve always known so I’m not very adventurous! I love that the show pushes you out of your comfort zone with cooking things you wouldn’t normally!”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ star Sair Khan is back at work on the soap after giving birth to her first child.
The 36-year-old actress took to her Instagram Story to share a picture of her script as she prepares to return to the cobbles as Alya Nazir – a role she has played on the ITV show since 2014 – for the first time since having her baby boy in April.
She captioned the post: “I am Backstreet.”
Her character left Weatherfield to pursue a job opportunity in Dublin, but before she left she and her boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) getting close.
Sair welcomed a son with her partner Nathan Chilton after a 22-hour labour which she described as an “absolute rollercoaster”.
She shared on Instagram in May: “He’s here! Okay, when I said ‘Spring awakening’ in my last post I didn’t mean ‘keep’ me awake. The new parent zombie look is definitely a thing isn’t it.
“More importantly our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He’s super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour. We didn’t quite get the birth i’d hoped for but that’s okay (two birth pools, no water birth). (sic)”
She added of her labour: “It was raw and primal and I’m glad I kept an open heart and no expectations because my gosh I had NO IDEA what a ride I was in for.
“And since then we’ve been non stop trying to figure out latches and vomit and tears all while dealing with sleep deprivation and the small issue of trying to heal my own body too. Massive respect to all the new Mamas and Dads trying to get through those first few days and weeks.”
Sair – who announced her pregnancy news in December – added: “Somehow we’re off the starting blocks and I’m so unbelievably grateful for our healthy baby, for Nathan and the for the incredible support network around us for their patience, generosity and late night voice notes that have kept me going. Anyone else ever felt like there’s a DJ beat coming from your breast pump at 3am or is that what delirium is?! (sic)”

Pete Wicks felt ‘healed’ after writing his book

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Wicks found writing a book to be a “healing” experience.
‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star has put pen to paper to tell his life story in ‘Never Enough: My Words Unfiltered’ and revealed the title came from his first ever tattoo which summed up how he felt about himself.
During an appearance at an ‘In Conversation With’ event hosted by fellow TV star Vicky Pattison, Pete told the audience: “The first tattoo I ever got was Never Enough because I never thought I’d be enough. That’s where the title came from … I’d just like people to go away [from reading the book] knowing that they are enough.”
Pete went on to reveal writing the book was a positive experience for him because it allowed him to explore his past and family relationships and gave him the chance to “refresh and recharge”.
He said: “The most important person to me when writing this book was my mum. There were things in there that I hadn’t even told her which were really healing for our relationship.
“There is no one I look up to more than her. Speaking to her about the past has been therapeutic. Losing my nan brought me and my mum closer but I wanted to write this book as I knew my nan would be proud I had the b******* to do it …
“I’ve always been a shoulder to cry on for other people but you can’t really help anyone unless you help yourself first. The book gave me an opportunity to refresh and recharge.”
Pete previously admitted the death of his grandmother Doreen in 2022 was especially hard for him. During an appearance on TV show ‘Lorraine’, he explained: “She was amazing Doreen, just an angel on earth. She had a major impact on my life and loosing her is the toughest thing I’ve ever been through.
“She was more than a grandma she was my best friend. You can’t really understand your own emotions and feelings. Mine came out as anger because I couldn’t process what I was feeling.
“I surround myself with a very good circle of strong women, it’s really important. Women are so much more important at understanding and getting through difficult situations.
“The boys go to the pub and it’s like ‘You alright, how are you’ and that’s it. It does make a massive difference, it’s not just about talking it’s having someone just to listen.”

Denis Villeneuve clarifies he’s not making a Dune trilogy

OHMYGOSSIP — Denis Villeneuve has clarified that his ‘Dune’ films are “not like a trilogy”.
The 56-year-old filmmaker plans to depart the blockbuster sci-fi series after one last epic if ‘Dune: Messiah’ goes ahead, but he has explained that the third movie based on Frank Herbert’s classic novel, will have its “own identity”.
He told Vanity Fair: “It’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych. It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished.
“If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”
The third movie will follow 2021’s ‘Dune: Part One’ and this year’s ‘Dune: Part Two’ should it come off.
‘Dune: Messiah’ is set 12 years after the first time, so should cast members such as Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya return, they will need to look much older, but Villeneuve insists that’s no issue.
He said: “That’s my problem. I know how to do that.”
Villeneuve has ruled out doing any more films in the franchise himself but would love for someone else to take over from him, though he warned it’s not easy feat.
He said: “Listen, if Dune: Messiah happens, it will have been many years for me on Arrakis, and I would love to do something else.
“I think that it would be a good idea for me to make sure that, in Messiah, there are the seeds in the project if someone wants to do something else afterwards, because they are beautiful books. They are more difficult to adapt. They become more and more esoteric. It’s a bit more tricky to adapt, but I’m not closing the door. I will not do it myself, but it could happen with someone else.”

Denzel Washington hails ‘ridiculously big’ Gladiator 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Denzel Washington has warned fans ‘Gladiator 2’ is going to be “ridiculously big” and “epic”.
The 69-year-old actor is among the cast of Sir Ridley Scott’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2000 original playing Macrinus – a former slave who is plotting to overthrow Rome – opposite Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal and Denzel has insisted the film is definitely going to be one to watch.
He told Variety: “[It’s] huge! Ridiculously big!”
When asked whether his co-stars Mescal and Pascal are “good” in the film, the actor replied: “Not good. Great. Both of them. It’s a hard act to follow, and Paul pulled it off. He’s his own gladiator.
“I didn’t have to do anything but this [sips water with his little finger up]. That was my job. Just twirl the glass, twirl the goblet, and hold whatever I had in my other hand.
“And make sure I don’t step on my gown. A new trailer [for ‘Gladiator 2’] comes out on the 23rd [September]. It’s epic.”
It comes after director Ridley Scott declared ‘Gladiator II’ is “one of the best” movies of his career.
The 86-year-old filmmaker – who helmed the original ‘Gladiator’ movie – insisted fans won’t be disappointed by the new film.
Speaking to Empire, Ridley explained: “It’s the best thing I’ve ever made … One of the best things. I’ve made a few good ’uns.”
The director previously moviemaker told Deadline: “I thought the [first] film was, as it were, completely satisfactory, creatively complete, so why muck with it, right?
“But these cycles keep going on and on and on, they repeat globally for the last 20 years. It started to spell itself out as an obvious thing to do, and that’s how it evolved.”
‘Gladiator 2’ is due for release in November.

Olly Murs needed therapy for panic attacks before joining The Voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs needed therapy to help manage his panic attacks before joining ‘The Voice.’
The singer- who rose to fame after competing on ‘The X Factor’ in 2009 – was a coach on the singing competition from 2018 to 2023 and he has now shared that he initially was apprehensive to join the show after accidentally announcing the incorrect results on ‘The X Factor’ in 2015, which led fix claims.
The 40-year-old told Auto Trader’s ‘Show On The Road’ podcast: “[It] felt like the worst news that could ever happen to me. I had a massive panic attack over it. I know what I went through was nothing compared to what other people go through. But mentally at the time, I was freaked out.
“I wondered, going back on TV again, was I going to make a mistake? Because that’s all I got when I did ‘X Factor’, I was told, ‘You’re useless, you’re not good, you’re not a great presenter, you’re not this, you’re not that’.
“Don’t get me wrong, there were loads of positives too, but I just got loads of hate.”
The ‘Dear Darlin’ hitmaker explained that having sessions of therapy helped him feel ready to return to a television role.
He added: “One of the things I learnt was how to cope and understand how I was feeling. She gave me these techniques on how to deal with that other voice in your head that’s like telling you you can’t do this, run away.”
Olly also admitted he was “petrified” on his first day of joining the show back in 2018.
He said: “So I told myself, ‘You’re great at what you do. You’re really good on TV. You’ve got it. You’ve got this, Olly. You’ve got this.’
“And it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I loved it. I did it for seven years. And it was what I needed. It was brilliant.”

The Traitors winner Harry Clark eyes up I’m A Celebrity stint

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Traitors’ winner Harry Clark is eyeing up ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
The 23-year-old reality star – who rose to fame as he won the second series of the BBC’s backstabbing game show based on bluff and treachery – would love to carry on exploring his options in television after stepping back from his job as a British Army engineer.
He told the Metro newspaper’s 60 Seconds column: “There are a lot of shows I want to do. Hopefully, one will be the ‘I’m A Celebrity’ jungle.
“But I used to love acting in school, so who knows? I’m losing weight already.
“I’ve started the 75 Hard Challenge, where you exercise twice a day for 45 minutes, just in case I get the James Bond call.”
While ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘Big Brother’ could also be options, Harry admitted ‘I’m A Celebrity’ is top of the list.
He added: “The thing that excites me is the jungle. I’m the fussiest eater in the world, mind, and scared of everything.
“I’m the world’s most non-macho man. I might have been in the Army but I hate bugs.”
As well as more series of ‘The Traitors’, BBC bosses have also commissioned a celebrity version, and Harry would “love” to see Claudia Winkleman experience the show from another point of view.
He said: “I’d love to see ‘Traitors’ presenter Claudia Winkleman in it – but the other way round, if that makes sense, to see if she could deal with it, me giving her the Traitors cloak.
“I’d also love to see Amanda Holden in it, but she reckons she’d be rubbish. And Ant and Dec, they’d be good.”
Harry isn’t interested in returning to the famous castle, although he would be tempted if bosses created an all-traitors series.
He pointed to the various series around the world, with versions airing in the US, Australia, Netherlands, Poland and New Zealand.
He added: “An international ‘Traitors’ – that would be carnage!”

Shirley Ballas may need spinal surgery after her back ‘deteriorated’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas may need spinal surgery after her back has “deteriorated” over the last year.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge is currently preparing for the next series of the BBC’s Latin and ballroom competition – which returns on Saturday (14.09.24) – but she has now revealed she could need surgery after suffering from back pain which has worsened over the last 12 months.
She told OK! magazine: “I’ve been to see three specialists, and I may need surgery. It’s not a choice; I will have to get it sorted.
“It can wait until after ‘Strictly’ because I have a high tolerance for pain anyway, and it’s something I’ve been living with for many, many years, but it’s just deteriorated over the course of the last year.”
The 64-year-old dancing champion also explained that she has explored the best options for treatment with her back from around the world and is relying on her friends and family for support during this challenging time.
She added: “I’m on it like a car bonnet. I am working and making sure I’m seeing the best people on both sides of the Atlantic — in the United States and here. My whole family’s involved in it, and I have some great people with some great advice.”
Despite her pain, Shirley is committed to staying in her role in the hit dancing show and has reassured ‘Strictly’ fans of this, but has realised that she is going to have to look after herself more while her back continues to be an issue.
She quipped: “You’d have to shovel me out of my chair. I’m going to sit in that chair for as long as they’ll have me.
“It’s time to not work such long hours. I stand on my feet all day, from morning till night, teaching and coaching. That’s the part I’m going to have to take a little bit of a step back from.”

He said: “We were both experiencing something very new, doing a film like this.
“She obviously had vast experience in the music world, much more than I did, and I’ve probably done a few more acting gigs than she had, but in terms of doing a film like this, there was nothing that really could have prepared us.”
Jonah also described how he went through a demanding three months of rehearsals where he learned to row, ride horses and scuba dive.
He said: “I’ve never done so much training in my life.”
