Greta Gerwig feared Barbie would be a ‘career-ender’

OHMYGOSSIP — Greta Gerwig was worried that the Barbie movie could end her career.
The ‘Little Women’ filmmaker was keen to work with Margot Robbie, who had secured rights to the story, but Greta admitted she feared the movie was a terrible mistake.
Speaking to Dua Lipa on the ‘At Your Service’ podcast, Greta, 39, said: “It was something that was exciting because it was terrifying. I think that was a big part of it, like: ‘Oh, no, Barbie.’
“It felt like vertigo, starting to write it, like: ‘Where do you even begin, and what would be the story?’ And I think it was that feeling I had was knowing that it would be really interesting terror. Usually that’s where the best stuff is, where you’re like, ‘I am terrified of that.’ Anything where you’re like, ‘This could be a career-ender’ — then you’re like, ‘I should probably do it.’”
Greta first joined the project to work on the script with Noah Baumbach before taking on directorial duties.
And Margot, 32, has insisted that movie will surprise people.
She previously said: “Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”

‘I don’t care if it’s a two-second commercial’: Janelle Monae would do anything for Rian Johnson

OHMYGOSSIP — Janelle Monáe says she would have accepted any role Rian Johnson offered her.
The 36-year-old actress portrays tech entrepreneur Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand in the director’s whodunnit ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, and she has admitted she has so much admiration for the filmmaker that she would have featured in a two-second commercial for him.
Speaking to Collider, she said: “You know what? Yes, indeed. In my mind, I had always said, ‘If Rian reaches out to me, I don’t care if it’s a two-second commercial, it’s a yes.’ And I read the script. I was already a fan of his taste and everything, and after reading it, dream role, dream cast. We got to go to Greece. I mean, it was so terrible going to Greece, and the baklava, and all those things. No, it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You just say yes to these special murder mysteries that he’s making and innovating in. And my character is a dream, because I got an opportunity to really, really show range, and go to different places as an actor, that I hadn’t necessarily gone to.”
Janelle recently said she wants to emulate Johnny Depp’s movie career.
The 36-year-old singer-and-actress admires 59-year-old Johnny’s career path and she would love to follow in his footsteps.
She said: “When I think about careers, this person as an actor, his life as an actor only, it’s Johnny Depp.
“The amount of roles, from ‘Willy Wonka’, to ‘Sweeney Todd’, to all of the dramatic roles, [I want to do] whatever is the Janelle Monáe version of that, with those transformative characters that people are dressing up as on Halloween. I’m thinking that level. I’m ready to go there. Something grounded, but embedded in the hearts and minds of children.”
And she also admires the late David Bowie.
She said: “I’ve always had like a world-building mind, and I never saw my music career as something that shouldn’t limit anything. It was like, ‘No, we can go far’. I mean, David Bowie did these things, so why can’t I do these things? What’s the difference?”
Janelle made her movie debut in Barry Jenkins’ 2016 Oscar winner ‘Moonlight’, but admitted she actually had different plans for her first film role.
She said: “I actually wanted my first film to be science-fiction. “But I was so happy it was ‘Moonlight’, because it meant a lot to a lot of people.”

The stand-up comedian became the seventh star to leave the jungle when he was evicted on Friday’s (25.11.22) episode and he told hosts Ant and Dec that he expects ex-England footballer Jill to win.
He said: “‘I’m afraid it’s an easy answer. I love all of them but from the minute I met her, it had to be her… Jill. She’s the winner.”
Ant and Dec announced Seann was out and the public voted to keep Owen Warner after the pair ended up in the bottom two.
Seann’s exit leaves Owen, Conservative MP Matt Hancock and former rugby player Mike Tindall in the final four alongside Jill.
Seann was full of praise for his time in the jungle and his campmates, saying: “So many memories. So many amazing memories. I loved it. It is tough, and I don’t know how that comes across on screen.
“As soon as you said my name, all of the tough bit just goes, and now I’m left with absolutely incredible memories. I’m gonna need a long time to process.
“We all listened to each other in there and everyone got their story out and there was so much support. We all accepted one and other for who we are today and in that jungle. To get this far it feels great.”

Doctor Who villains set for spin-off

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Doctor Who’ villains are set for their own spin-off show.
The Cybermen and Daleks will feature in a new programme devoted solely to the Time Lord’s many enemies.
A source told The Mirror: “Fans can expect to see Sontarans, Weeping Angels and Sea Devils in separate series showing what they get up to when the Doctor isn’t there to stop them, along with Daleks and Cybermen.”
This comes after the BBC reportedly signed a huge deal with Disney+, leading the budget for ‘Doctor Who’ to be tripled to £10million per installment.
Meanwhile, Jodie Whittaker previously revealed she got teary every time she talked about her departure from ‘Doctor Who’.
The 40-year-old ‘Broadchurch’ actress made her final outing as the Thirteenth Doctor in the ‘Doctor Who’ centenary titled ‘The Power of the Doctor’ – which is part of the BBC’s celebrations to mark 100 years of broadcasting.
Jodie admitted she struggled to talk about her final scenes without getting emotional.
She told Empire magazine: “I cannot talk about it without crying. I’ve got to get better at this, because this is the next few weeks for me – talking about my regeneration.”
Jodie went on to explain showrunner Chris Chibnall – who is leaving the show at the same time as her – wrote some extremely moving dialogue for her character’s big exit.
She added: “I love the dialogue Chris wrote for my regeneration. It captures my Doctor beautifully. It’s simple, epic and beautiful.
“When I could see the crew was happy with that last shot, that’s when my bottom lip started going. I was like, ‘Well, they can’t say they need another take now because I’ve f***ing lost it!’ ”

David Walliams ‘quits Britain’s Got Talent’

OHMYGOSSIP — David Walliams has quit ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
The 51-year-old comedian has sensationally stepped down as a judge on the show after 10 years and programme bosses are already considering potential replacements.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “He hasn’t taken the decision lightly, but it just feels like time to move on.”
David is set to announce his departure in the coming weeks.
Another insider said: “David has decided to bow out after a ten-year run. He wants to leave on a high after a wonderful time.
“Being on the show has been a huge source of entertainment and joy for him and he is arguably the most popular member of the panel.
“He hasn’t taken the decision lightly, but it feels like time to move on and focus on his other projects.
“His team have quietly been having conversations over the past few days where it has been made clear that David is readying himself to step down – and then producers will start to think about who might replace him.
“His exit might not be popular with fans who adore him. But for David it appears that now, after an amazing ten years on the show, it is the right time to move on.”
Questions were previously raised about David’s future on the show after “disrespectful comments” he made about ‘BGT’ contestants in a recording of an audition show at the London Palladium in January 2020 were leaked, prompting him to apologise.
According to a leaked transcript, he called one contestant a “****”.
Of another, he said: “She’s like the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t.”
He reiterated: “She thinks you want to f*** her, but you don’t.”
The ‘Little Britain’ star then added: “I know, she’s just like, ‘Oh, f*** off!’ I was saying, she thinks you want to f*** her, but you don’t. It’s the last thing on your mind, but she’s like, ‘Yep, I bet you do!’ ‘No I don’t!’ ”
David insisted the conversations were “never intended to be shared”, but he did issue an apology.
He said in a statement: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in 2020. These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”

Ross Kemp’s quiz show joy

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp is excited to return to the BBC for the second series of ‘Bridge of Lies’.
The 58-year-old actor and documentary-maker first found fame on BBC soap ‘EastEnders’ and he loved returning to the channel with his first ever quiz show.
Speaking about ‘Bridge of Lies’, he told The Sun: “It’s something I never expected to do but I really enjoy it. When you get post-50 you should do the things you really enjoy in life.
“Sometimes I’ve done stuff that I didn’t really want to do at points in my life, but now I’m diving around the world, doing a gameshow and making documentaries. Variety is the spice of life.”
Ross has become passionate about the environment after working on ocean documentaries and he has teamed up with Lyfecycle, which uses a one-of-a-kind self-destructing plastic technology, to help reduce single-use plastics.
He said: “I’ve been making diving programmes for the past couple of years in and around British waters and the amount of plastic and dumping that goes on is staggering.
“In the ocean, you see fish with plastic stuck around them. We’ve seen seals with those things that go around beers round their necks or fins.
“Unless you dive a lot you probably look out at the sea and think it’s clean, but it’s not and it’s getting worse.
“Admittedly there’s been a lot of ignorance in the last 40 years.
“But we have to start listening to the planet and if there’s any technology we can use to aid and abet and to claw our way back then we should grab it with both hands.”

Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry’s chemistry

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Causeway’ director Lila Neugebauer knew Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry would immediately bond with each other.
The filmmaker admitted that it was vital Jennifer’s returning soldier Lynsey and Brian’s mechanic character James have great chemistry on screen and she had a feeling that the two actors would work well together.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said: “I had an inkling, having met Jen and spent time with her, meaningful time with her. And having known Brian for almost 20 years, I had a suspicion that they would connect easily and deeply and fortuitously, that suspicion proved accurate.”
Neugebauer met Henry when they were students at Yale, and said he was “the first and only person” she wanted for the role of James.
Explaining why he was perfect for the role of the grief stricken and physically injured James, who lost part of his leg in a car crash, she said: “That aspect of the character’s story was intrinsic to the story, and we thought meaningfully about the ethics of casting in this film.
“[I knew he would] put in the meaningful work to prepare to take on this role thoughtfully, in good conscience, and from a place of integrity and care.”
And, writer Elizabeth Sanders said James’ physical injury was vital for his bonding with Lynsey after she suffered a brain injury in Afghanistan.
She said: “I think that in order to show that it was human empathy that would allow them to move through their grief and trauma together, that that sort of visual representation allowed them to begin a friendship that might not have otherwise started.”

Taika Waititi amazed to find non-binary actor who plays football and is Samoan

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi says it was “very important” to cast a non-binary actor as the non-binary footballer player in ‘Next Goal Wins’.
The New Zealand director’s latest film sees him dramatise the 2014 documentary of the same name, about Dutch-American coach Thomas Rongen’s efforts to lead the American Samoa national football team, considered the weakest football team in the world, to qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
And the 47-year-old filmmaker said to find a non-binary actor, who is Samoan and can play football was a miracle because there aren’t many who are all three.
He told Empire magazine: “That’s obviously very important. Kaimana plays the part of Jaiyah [Saelua].
“It’s very hard to find (a, a non-binary actor, and b), someone who’s also Samoan. And who can also play football! And who can act!
“I mean, that pool was very small.
“So to be able to find someone, it was amazing. She’s incredible. She carries it.”
Michael Fassbender leads the cast as Rongen.
In a statement, director Taika said: “The films and graphic novels of Alejandro Jodorowsky have influenced me and so many others for so long. I was stunned to be given the opportunity to bring his iconic characters to life and I am grateful to Alejandro, Fabrice and everyone at Humanoids for trusting me to do so.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor has topped the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ leaderboard.
The 46-year-old actor and his partner Nancy Xu were the first couple to take to the dance floor, as they performed a Charleston to ‘Hush’ by Kula Shaker.
The duo were awarded a score of 38 out of a possible 40 points, with judge Shirley Ballas praising the eye-catching choreography.
Fellow judge Anton Du Beke said: “I think that was one of your best performances of the series. You commit to every move – you nail every move.”
Later, Hamza Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystał also impressed the judges with their Argentine Tango, which they performed to the sound of ‘Libertango’ by Bond.
The duo were awarded 37 points by the judges. Despite this, judge Craig Revel Horwood suggested that their routine was actually a little messy.
Elsewhere, Fleur East and her partner Vito Coppola performed a Rumba to ‘Too Lost In You’ by Sugababes.
The pop star and Vito were awarded a score of 35 out of 40.
Motsi Mabuse heaped praise on their performance, observing that Fleur and Vito have developed a great connection.
Shirley also praised their passionate performance. However, she noted that their routine needed more rotation.
By contrast, Ellie Taylor and her partner Johannes Radebe failed to impress on the night.
The 39-year-old star and Johannes, 35, danced a Jive to ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison, and they were given a score of 25 out of 40 by the judges.
Craig claimed that their routine lacked punch and precision, while Shirley criticised Ellie’s lack of technique.
Meanwhile, Helen Skelton and her partner Gorka Marquez also appear to be in danger after earning a relatively meagre score of 29.
The 39-year-old TV presenter and Gorka, 32, performed a Samba dance that underwhelmed the judges.
Craig and Motsi both criticised the technical aspects of their dance.

OHMYGOSSIP — Mike Tindall has been voted off ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’.
The 44-year-old former England rugby star has become the latest camp mate to leave the ITV show, leaving Matt Hancock, Owen Warner and Jill Scott to battle it out for the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ crown.
After his exit was confirmed, Mike told hosts Ant and Dec: “I’m good. It’s been a long time. I can feel my body was getting ready … I’m pretty comfortable with it.”
The former sportsman – who has been married to Zara Tindall, the niece of King Charles, since 2011 – loved his time in the jungle and explained that his positive attitude helped him to overcome the challenge.
He said: “It’s been a lot of laughs. That’s the best thing. You can get through anything when the humour is good.”
Mike also revealed that he’d mentally prepared himself for the challenge before he entered the jungle.
The World Cup-wining star explained: “Before I went in, I imagined the worst case scenario. Then you can deal with everything that’s coming at you.
“The only time I almost had a little wobble was when we had the nighttime challenge. But then Seann had a wobble, and I could just go back to focus on [helping] Seann.”
Earlier in the show, meanwhile, Mike accused Matt of trying to to influence ‘I’m a Celebrity’ voters.
He said: “Matt’s making sure his T-shirt and his phone numbers are on display at all times. Matt clearly wants to win.
“Have you noticed someone’s been advertising themselves? Matt’s been putting all his stuff with ‘Matt’ and the phone number pointing at cameras.”

James Gunn used holiday special as ‘trojan horse’ for Guards of the Galaxy Vol 3

OHMYGOSSIP — James Gunn has used the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ as a “trojan horse” to introduce some elements of the upcoming third film in the series.
The 40-minute holiday special features Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis’ (Pom Klementieff) bid to help Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) rediscover his love of the festive season, but the director admitted the one-off Disney+ feature has saved some time setting up various plot points for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′, which is due for release in May 2023.
He told Deadline: “I used the holiday special as an opportunity to introduce some elements into ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, so I didn’t have to explain them at the beginning of ‘Volume 3’. It was a trojan horse.
“I don’t have to talk about where they got [the new Guardians HQ] Nowhere from, or Cosmo being around Nowhere.
“I think you see what Nebula’s role is in the group now: She’s a leader to some degree.
“We see all these changes since we’ve seen them last.”
The special was shot at the same time as the third movie, which James admitted was “insane” because they are so different in tone.
He said: “[It was] an insane experience because Vol. 3 is a serious movie, it deals with these characters’ emotional lives.
“[Vol. 3] has a lot of heaviness in it. So shooting that for a few days, and then shooting this goofy thing — these were like my recess days.
The 56-year-old director also teased some of what fans can expect from the third movie.
He said: “When you see ‘Guardians 3’, you’ll see, yes, there’s a bad guy, but it’s not about that.
“It’s about this family of rejects who have found each other, and have come to love each other, and together with the support of each other, maybe come to accept who they are because they all hate themselves, and that’s really what this journey is about.”

Michael B. Jordan got directing tips from Bradley Cooper and Denzel Washington

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael B. Jordan got directing tips from Bradley Cooper and Denzel Washington.
The 35-year-old actor makes his directorial debut in the latest ‘Rocky’ spin-off film, and he admits he was anxious about the job at hand but soon got into his own “groove” and came to enjoy the experience.
Speaking to Empire magazine, he said: “I was pretty anxious going into it, wondering what that would be like. ‘Who’s calling action and cut? Is that me?’
“Talking to Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper and others who have directed themselves, they told me you have to find your groove and your pace with your first AD and actors.
“But it’s also like having a superpower: Within your performance, you can also direct.
“It saves some time in some areas, because you get a chance to self-correct in the moment.
“So that’s a liberating experience to have. It became fun after a while.”
Michael recently revealed he wanted to highlight Mexican boxing in ‘Creed III’.
He explained that he cast boxing great Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in his first acting role to showcase the influence that Mexico has had on the sport.
At a press conference to promote the movie, Michael – who plays the lead role of Adonis ‘Donnie’ Creed – said: “We just looked back, you know, it’s the history of boxing, and the Mexican culture is such a pillar within the sport of boxing and it felt like there wasn’t a really a lot of representation throughout the films in that type of way.
“And it just didn’t seem like the reality I lived in. So I wanted to incorporate Mexican culture into this film.”
The ‘Just Mercy’ star added: “I just felt that there was a lack there, that didn’t seem truthful and honest to the sport of boxing. And I wanted kind of put that character there.”
Michael previously revealed that the sports movie was the “perfect” film to make his bow behind the camera on as it comes during the right moment of his career.
He said: “For me, it was the perfect time. Growing up on set, in the industry, over 20 years, and start out doing background work and extra work and just seeing the sets evolve and seeing everybody’s job and seeing how a real production took place, I finally got to this place in my career where I wanted to tell a story and not just be in front of the camera to execute somebody else’s vision.
“I’m telling a story of where I believe Adonis is at, and also at 35 years old, I had a lot to say, as a young man and as a young black man, with my life experiences.”

Roman Kemp was mugged at knifepoint

OHMYGOSSIP — Roman Kemp was secretly robbed at knifepoint.
The 29-year-old star – who is the son of pop stars Martin and Shirlie Kemp – was surrounded by a weapon-wielding gang who demanded his money and phone when he was a teenager, but he didn’t tell his parents what had happened because he’d ignored the advice they had given him if he was ever confronted by muggers.
He said: “When I was 14 we were followed by these older lads one time.
“I had my phone in the inside pocket and I knew I was being followed.
“I had this sharp thing pointed in my back, and I heard a gruff voice behind me telling me to hand over my wallet and phone.
“He took my wallet, there was probably only a fiver in there. I didn’t tell him I had my phone. I kept it hidden, which was totally dumb.
“Mum and Dad always lectured me that if ever I got mugged or asked to hand over my phone, I should immediately do that. It’s not worth being stabbed over.
“I got home and didn’t admit what had happened. I think I found that thrill of being in danger exciting.”
The ‘Celebrity Gogglebox’ star recalled another incident where he got into a fight after again ignoring his parents’ advice, and admitted Spandau Ballet star Martin was furious when he heard what had happened.
According to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper, Roman wrote in his new book ‘Are You Really OK?’: “In my early 20s I was in a bit of a bar brawl. I’d been singled out because of who I was, or who Dad was. While not a fighter by nature, I did fight back.
“Dad unleashed hell on me when he heard. He warned me those situations I just had to walk away from. He was absolutely right though and I’ve listened to him.”

Emily Atack feels ‘damaged’ by sexual harassment

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Atack feels “damaged” after being sexually harassed since the age of just 10.
The 32-year-old star was driven to make her BBC documentary, ‘Emily Atack: Sexual Harassment and Me’ about the issue because of her own experiences and admitted she finds the unwanted attention she receives “really tough”, particularly because there is “no accountability” for things that happen online.
She told BBC Radio 4: “My whole life, I’ve been sexually harassed. In the streets, I’ve been flashed. It’s happened since I was 10.
“Now I’m sexually harassed online every day. I find it really tough. I did the documentary to talk about the implications.
“There’s no accountability. It’s not illegal to send this stuff to people.
“I’m very damaged by the things that have happened to me.”
The former ‘Inbetweeners’ star finds it particularly difficult that she gets “blamed” for the harassment because of her candid nature and she wants to change that misconception when her programme is released next year.
She added: “I’m constantly being blamed for it all. I’m a very sexually liberated woman, I talk about my life in that way. I’m constantly told I’m to blame. I’m trying to show in this documentary it’s not our fault.”
Emily is “proud” of the sexy photoshoots she’s taken part in in the past but claims the “joy” of the experience was taken from her because of the unwelcome reaction.
She said: “I’m proud of them. The problem is as women we’re not allowed to celebrate those things without looking like we’re flaunting it and looking for this negative attention. It takes the joy out of what you’re doing. That joy was taken from me.”
The ‘Celebrity Juice’ star previously expressed her hope that the documentary will help other women in her position.
She said: “With this documentary, I am hoping to find answers to the many questions I’ve been asking myself my entire life, and I hope it will go on to help thousands of others too.”

Lisa Faulker is ‘obsessed’ with ghosts

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Faulker is “obsessed” with ghosts.
The 50-year-old TV star – who is married to ‘MasterChef’ judge John Torode – had her first ghoulish encounter as a teenager and in recent years found herself vetting her current home for paranormal activity before putting in an offer.
She said: “I’m obsessed with ghosts! I was at a friend’s house when I was 17 and saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye – this person walked past me.I said to my friend, ‘Is that your dad?’ but there was no-one in the house, we looked around. And I wasn’t drinking! I never went to her house again. I can walk into a house and tell if it has a funny feeling. I said before we put an offer in I need to go in the day, evening and at night as I had to check I was fine with being left alone – and it was OK!”
Meanwhile, the ”John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen’ co-host started her career as an actress appearing in soaps such as ‘Brookside’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ and is now set to appear in BBC One’s upcoming reboot of school drama ‘Waterloo Road’ but lamented that there are “very few parts for women of a certain age” even though they make up a large amount of the audience demographic.
She told The Daily Star: “I love acting and have done a bit in the new series of ‘Waterloo Road.’ There are very few parts for women of a certain age, yet a lot of women over 50 watch a lot of TV and want to be represented. It’s a very difficult market – I hope it will get better.”
