Hugh Grant hates iconic Love Actually scene

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Grant hates his iconic ‘Love Actually’ dance scene.
The 62-year-old actor – who played David the Prime Minister – is still haunted by his routine in Richard Curtis’ 2003 Christmas classic, as his character dances down the halls of 10 Downing Street to the Pointer Sisters’ hit ‘Jump’.
Speaking as part of ABC’s special ‘The Laughter and Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later’, he called: “I saw it in the script and I thought, ‘Well, I’ll hate doing that’.
“I didn’t fancy doing the dance at all, let alone rehearsing it.
“To this day, there’s many people, and I agree with them, who think it’s the most excruciating scene ever committed to celluloid. Then some people like it.”
While Grant may not be a fan of the dance, he does take some credit for a key part of it, jokingly hailing himself as a “genius”.
He added: “But I will give myself this credit… it was my idea to have that secretary lady catch me. Genius.”
The film’s writer and director Curtis admitted the actor “kept saying no” when it came to shooting the routine two decades ago.
He said: “I think he was hoping I’d get ill or something and we’d say, ‘Oh, well, what a shame, we’ll have to lose that dancing sequence.’ ”
Curtis still remembers Grant being “grumpy” when the day came to actually film the scene, but a “contractual obligation” stopped him from pulling out.
He admitted it was “agonisingly embarrassing” to see him perform the dance on set, but he said: “He’s just perfect.”
Grant doesn’t think it was quite on point, insisting he was out of time.
He added: “I’m out of rhythm, by the way. Especially at the beginning when I’m wiggling my a**.”

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic refused permission for Harry Potter parody

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic claims Warner Bros. refused to let him parody the ‘Harry Potter’ theme.
The 63-year-old musician – who is played by Daniel Radcliffe, the titular star in the wizarding series, in his new biopic ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’ – has offered his own twist on songs including the ‘Star Wars’ theme and ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ from ‘Dangerous Minds’ in the past, but when he asked permission to rework ‘Hedwig’s Theme’, the idea was quickly shut down.
He said: “Whenever it was, about a decade or two ago, I approached the movie company just to get a general blessing like, ‘Hey, I’d like to do a Harry Potter parody.’ And I think they said no, or they never responded or whatever.
“But sometimes when you’re dealing with franchises, and you ask permission, you know, there’s so many people that can say no, and they usually do.” THR has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment.
Al joked the snub had taught him a lesson for future parodies.
He said: “If I’m doing a franchise, it’s usually better just to do it and ask for forgiveness rather than permission,” he explained.
But the ‘Gump’ singer is still a fan of the ‘Harry Potter’ series and joked ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’ is his favourite movie in the saga.
He quipped: “We like to think that that’s the last movie of the Harry Potter franchise.”
And actor Daniel joked the whole movie could be viewed as the parody Al never got to record.
He said: “Maybe that’s what this film is. This has been his way of doing a ‘Harry Potter’ parody.”

Laura Whitmore makes hard-hitting documentary for ITV

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore is working on a new ITV documentary about “incels”.
The 37-year-old TV star is making a hard-hitting documentary about the online movement, which involves men who believe that women are to blame for their lack of intimacy.
Laura – who will front three episodes of the new series – told The Sun newspaper: “One of the topics I’ve been looking at as part of the new series is incels. I didn’t know a lot about this community other than some high-profile cases in the media.
“By meeting incels and trying to understand the ideology, I’ve been both fascinated and at times scared and shocked.”
Laura quit ‘Love Island’ earlier this year after hosting the hit TV show for three series.
The blonde beauty announced her departure via a post on social media.
Laura – who replaced the late Caroline Flack as the host of the show – wrote on Instagram: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects. I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline. (sic)”
In October, Maya Jama was announced as the new host of ‘Love Island’.
The 28-year-old star will front the show when it returns to TV screens in 2023.
Maya said: “I’ve always been such a massive ‘Love Island’ fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows.
“I can’t wait to get into the villa to meet all of the Islanders.”

Victoria Ekanoye regained her confidence thanks to Elizabeth Hurley

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Hurley helped Victoria Ekanoye to regain her confidence after having a double mastectomy.
The 40-year-old actress – who played Angie Appleton in ‘Coronation Street’ – has revealed how the Hollywood star and her son Damian helped her to regain her mojo after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
She shared: “It was a bikini from Elizabeth’s range. They were like, ‘This bikini will look amazing on you’, so I tried it on.
“That was a really big moment for me. I hadn’t worn a bikini since my surgery and I had insecurity swirling around in my head, but they made me feel really comfortable.”
Damian even took a series of bikini photos for Victoria, which she turns to whenever she needs a confidence boost.
She told The Sun newspaper: “Damian said, ‘Get in front of that window’, and then started taking all these photos of me.
“He’s incredibly talented. His eye captured something really special and I felt so proud when I looked at the photos he had taken.
“It was such a turning point for me psychologically.”
Victoria discovered a lump in her breast while she was feeding her baby son Theo, who is now 22 months old.
And the actress admits that it has transformed her outlook on life.
She said: “It makes you aware of your own mortality – and with a young son, that was incredibly hard to think about.
“I was more aware of breast cancer than most because I’d watched my mum, Candy, and my auntie Tracy go through it.
“I was already a patron of Prevent Breast Cancer, helping to raise funds and awareness. Two of my mum’s aunts and her cousin died from it. Then suddenly I had it.”

Fleur East feels ‘extra pressure’ on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleur East feels under “extra pressure” as ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ nears its conclusion.
The ‘Sax’ hitmaker – who is partnered with Vito Coppola – thinks the pressure is slowly intensifying on the BBC show.
Fleur, 35, told Radio Times.com: “I feel like there’s a bit of extra pressure added on everybody but at the same time, I feel like we’re all enjoying it a lot more as well. We’re all cheering each other on a lot more.”
Fleur – who recently achieved the first perfect score of the current series – insists there’s no animosity between any of the contestants.
The singer explained that she’s actually “excited” to watch everyone else perform.
She said: “We spend so much time together as a group and we just want to see everybody do well. Even though it’s a competition, we genuinely do want everybody to do well, so we get excited for each other.
“And because it’s a smaller group, we’re even closer so it’s quite emotional.”
Earlier this week, Fleur discussed the challenge of performing a rumba routine on the show, admitting that it involves “a lot of footwork”.
Fleur shared: “It’s very technical. A lot of footwork, a lot of toes, a lot of ankle situations – and we’re doing it in front of the queen of rumba so no pressure!
“I’m always worried because there’s so many different technical elements to each dance and they’re very specific as well.
“This dance has so many details and because it’s a rumba, it’s slow and controlled so you can see every part of it as well so you can’t really get away with anything.”

Babatunde Aleshe grew to ‘respect’ Matt Hancock

OHMYGOSSIP — Babatunde Aleshe grew to “respect” Matt Hancock on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’.
The 36-year-old star believes that the former health secretary – who resigned after he was found to have breached social distancing rules amid the pandemic – is actually a “good sport”, after he was called out by his camp mates in the jungle.
Babatunde told MailOnline: “He’s a good sport honest to God I respect the man highly for having people like me, Seann and even Chris be on his back for certain things.
“I involved him in the joke, I wasn’t trying to laugh at him, I was trying to laugh with him and make him laugh at himself.
“I’m from a different perspective, everyone else is coming from a perspective where they actually understand politics a bit more whereas I am coming from a working-class perspective where it’s like I might not understand everything you do but certain things that you do are funny to me like the whole bum grab – all of that stuff, that’s what my generation and my culture would point out.”
Matt – who resigned after it was revealed that he had an extramarital affair during the pandemic – told the comedy star that he “appreciates” being teased.
Babatunde said: “With Matt I wanted him to be comfortable with being teased.
“He was saying to me that he actually appreciates that because what is politics without having comedians or people who mock what we do?”
During their time in the jungle, Matt admitted to Babatunde that he “messed up and fessed up”.
He added: “I resigned and it’s no excuse, but I fell in love, right?”

Paul Dano describes The Fabelmans as an ‘antidote’ to The Batman

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Dano says ‘The Fabelmans’ provided an “antidote” to ‘The Batman’.
The 38-year-old actor stars in Steven Spielberg’s movie as Burt Fabelman – a character inspired by the legendary filmmaker’s father Arnold – and discussed the contrast to starring as the Riddler in the superhero flick.
Paul told ComicBook.com: “I’m so lucky to have had the antidote of Burt in a way and making a film about family and something that was truly guided by love and a man of integrity and decency, and there’s something very classically American.
“So, this was really about, ‘How do I build a life?’ How do this life that’s been lived based on Arnold, Steven’s dad?’ And it’s still hard for me to fully digest that Steven would want me to play his father. And it’s really meaningful for someone like Steven to see that.”
‘The Fabelmans’ is loosely based on Spielberg’s upbringing and early years as a filmmaker and Paul felt fortunate to be given the chance to feature in the story.
He said: “That courage started with (Steven) wanting to tell the story in the first place.
“And right from our very first meeting, which I was very nervous for, to meet him, he was so open and vulnerable and sort of honest and naked and emotionally intuitive about it, that it opens the door for you to be… In fact, you have no other choice but to embrace what he’s giving you and that courage and bringing it yourself.
“As soon as he told me about it, there’s only so many jobs where your heart really does truly leap. Like, ‘Oh, this is beautiful. There’s something here, and I get to be a part of that.'”

James Cameron reveals how Avatar came to him in a dream

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron has revealed that the ‘Avatar’ franchise came to him in a teenage dream.
The 68-year-old filmmaker has helmed ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 sci-fi epic, and explained that he first thought of the idea as a 19-year-old college student.
James did some drawings that became very early concepts for the franchise but would have to wait a long time to get the project on the big screen.
In a feature for GQ magazine, the ‘Titanic’ director said: “I woke up after dreaming of this kind of bioluminescent forest with these trees that look kind of like fibre-optic lamps and this river that was glowing bioluminescent particles and kind of purple moss on the ground that lit up when you walked on it.
“And these kinds of lizards that didn’t look like much until they took off. And then they turned into these rotating fans, kind of like living Frisbees, and they come down and land on something.”
James explained that the drawings “saved us from 10 lawsuits” as nobody else could claim that they had thought of the idea.
He said: “It was all in the dream. I woke up super excited and I actually drew it. So I actually have a drawing. It saved us from about 10 lawsuits. Any successful film, there’s always some freak with tinfoil under the wig that thinks you’ve beamed the idea out of their head. And it turned out were 10 or 11 of them.
“And so I pointed at this drawing I did when I was 19, when I was going to Fullerton Junior College, and said, ‘See this? See these growing trees? See this growing lizard that spins around, that’s orange? See the purple moss?’ And everybody went away.”

Waterloo Road poised to return in January

OHMYGOSSIP — The new series of ‘Waterloo Road’ will premiere in January.
The BBC has confirmed that the hit drama series – which is set in a comprehensive school of the same name – will make its long-awaited return to TV screens early next year.
The show last aired in March 2015, but was recommissioned for an eleventh series in September 2021.
The cast will include Angela Griffin, Adam Thomas, Katie Griffiths, Kym Marsh, Vincent Jerome, James Baxter, Jo Coffey, Shauna Shim, Neil Fitzmaurice, Rachel Leskovac, Katherine Pearce, Ryan Clayton and Sonia Ibrahim.
The series will open with a dramatic storyline, as a peaceful protest turns into a school riot, with the incident having huge ramifications for everyone involved.
The teachers and parents also find themselves having to navigate a rapidly changing social landscape, with the show exploring issues such as teen homelessness, racism, sexism and mental health.
Earlier this year, Angela Griffin teased details about the new series of ‘Waterloo Road’.
The 46-year-old actress – who plays headteacher Kim Campbell – revealed that her on-screen character will be a “different person” when she returns to TV screens.
Angela shared: “What’s happened to Kim in the last six years? You’ll have to wait to find out when it comes back.
“She’s a different person, definitely, things have happened and it all comes out when we come back.”
Angela also revealed that the show’s writers have created some “amazing storylines”.
She said: “I feel really honoured to be joining the new series of ‘Waterloo Road’. It is exciting to be stepping back into Kim’s shoes and I can’t wait to explore her life, character and how she has evolved since we last met her.

Taika Waititi: Next Goal Wins is a personal film

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi admits that ‘Next Goal Wins’ had personal resonance.
The 47-year-old director has helmed the big-screen adaptation of the documentary about the American Samoa football team – considered to be the weakest team in the world – and could relate to his upbringing in Polynesia.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Taika said: “It’s the ultimate underdog story.
“It taking place in Polynesia is very important to me, because it’s my people. We stick together. It was like seeing myself up there, seeing my family up there, when I saw that documentary, which is so perfect in many ways.
“And to have broader audiences have access to that story was one of my main goals. To bring our backyard to people, and to put brown faces on screen was a big deal for me. I just loved it.”
Taika explained that he embraced the contrast of working on the sports film, which stars Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss, to directing ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and ‘Jojo Rabbit’.
He said: “It was a great antidote to doing ‘Thor’ and ‘Jojo Rabbit’. Not that there’s anything negative about doing those other films, but I just missed him so much.”
Waititi confirmed that he would be bringing his own twist to the story that follows American Samoa’s attempts to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
The ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ helmer said: “If you love films that are really authentic to the true stories, then you’re gonna hate this movie.
“I mean, just watch the documentary if you want to see exactly what happened. We go a bit deeper with these characters. The way that everything unfolded is the same.”

Chris Hemsworth was terrified of ruining the Mad Max franchise

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth feared that he would “derail” the ‘Mad Max’ franchise.
The 39-year-old star has been cast in an undisclosed role in George Miller’s prequel film ‘Furiosa’ but confessed that he was “scared out of his mind” as he struggled to understand his character.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chris said: “In the build up, and I’m talking a couple of years, I was scared out of my mind. I’m like, ‘I’m gonna derail one of the most iconic franchises.’ I’m gonna bring down ‘Mad Max’. It’s gonna be my fault.”
The ‘Thor’ star continued: “Often I get a script and I know from the first read, the second read, I know who the character is and I get an instant, sort of, visceral feeling attached to it.
“This is I had read two years before I started shooting and was in awe of the script. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve read. I love George Miller – but I didn’t know who this character was.”
Chris – who recently announced that he would be taking a break from Hollywood due to a health scare discovered on his Disney+ docuseries ‘Limitless’ – explained that he was relieved when “something clicked” during rehearsals.
He said: “We did about four weeks of rehearsals, and we started digging in and diving into it, and things started coming to me. And then, about two weeks prior to shooting, something clicked.
“I went, ‘Ooh! Ooh. I think that’s who it is. I think that’s how he moves.'”
Anya Taylor-Joy leads the cast of ‘Furiosa’ and described working on the film as a “life-changing experience”.
The 26-year-old actress said: “It will take me the full two years before the movie comes out to even begin to process what I just left 12 days ago. (‘Furiosa’) was the most life-changing experience that I’ve ever had, with such talented artists.
“I really felt like I grew so much, but yes, it’s wild. It’s utterly unique.”

Denise van Outen ‘lied for weeks’ to land Big Breakfast role

OHMYGOSSIP — Denise van Outen “lied every day” for weeks to land a role on ‘The Big Breakfast’.
The 48-year-old star hosted the Channel 4 show in the late 90s and early 2000s – but Denise has confessed to telling lies in order to land her dream role.
Denise – who hosted the show alongside Johnny Vaughan – shared: “When I first went for ‘The Big Breakfast’, I thought I was going for the main presenting job, but then I found out I was actually auditioning for the weather girl.
“I thought – I’m just going to have to lie my way through this. So I pretended I had done a meteorological course. And I managed to get through it. And then I got the job, and I was like – s***, I don’t know anything about the weather! Because I’d pretended I’d studied it.”
Denise remembers lying her way through the weather reports. But in the end, Denise’s approach proved to be successful as she landed her big break in the TV industry.
She explained on ‘The Big Narstie Show’: “When I started the show I had to ring up ITN in the morning and get the weather report from them! My first contract there was for six weeks, and I literally lied every day that I could do it, so I had to just make it up.
“But in the end of it, they offered me the main presenter role so it worked.
“But it got to the point where I was such a s*** weather girl that I was just flying round in the helicopter like, if you want to know what the weather is like just look out your window!”

Louis Theroux is sensitive to online criticism

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Theroux is sensitive to online criticism.
The ‘Weird Weekends’ star has revealed that he used to scroll through Twitter to see how TV viewers would react to his work.
The 52-year-old broadcaster – whose new series features the likes of Dame Judi Dench and Stormzy – told the ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast: “I make shows and they are good and the ones that aren’t so good I know but these are all solid, but then I regressed into being the needy insecure person.
“That guy is always there by the way, which is fine, but I have an urge to do good work and it is nice for that to be recognised and as much as I would like to pretend that I don’t care if people like it or not I do care actually.”
Despite this, Louis has now learned to live with the criticism.
He said: “It would be insane to expect that you don’t get any criticism. I see stuff on Twitter, from time to time, it’s critical. People write reviews and sometimes the reviews are bad and that’s life.”
Meanwhile, Louis has admitted to being particularly surprised by the reaction to his interview with adventurer Bear Grylls.
He shared: “When it went out and for whatever reason, I thought it was a good show and it would get a good reception, so I thought I would go on Twitter and see what people were saying and it was surprisingly quiet.
“I thought I would try things like @louistheroux, @beargrylls and #LouisTherouxInterviews.
“All of a sudden I got a vision of myself and thought I had become that grubby guy who was kind of sad and fishing for approval in the vast swamp of the Twitterverse, casting my line and nothing much was coming back.
“Then there was one that said, ‘Just watched Louis Theroux’s interview with Bear Grylls, wow, it was hella boring.'”

AJ Odudu set to host The Big Interiors Battle

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Odudu is set to host ‘The Big Interiors Battle’.
The 34-year-old star has been confirmed as the host of Channel 4’s upcoming interior design competition series, which will air in early 2023.
AJ said: “I’m so excited to be involved in a series that has the potential to genuinely change the winner’s life.
“I’m also looking forward to seeing everyone’s different styles – as a major interiors obsessive myself, I’ll definitely be on the look out to hopefully pick up some nifty DIY tricks from this cast of pros.”
The upcoming series will see eight interior designers receive the keys to an apartment and they’ll then be challenged to transform a different room each week.
Their work will be judged by Dara Huang, an architect and entrepreneur, who has promised to hold the contestants to “an extremely high standard”.
Dara said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing what this cast of competitors bring to the table in the hopes of winning this life-changing prize.
“I’ll be holding contestants to an extremely high standard as there’s a lot at stake here – they’ll need to employ genuinely innovative design hacks to create something original and impressive!”
Meanwhile, AJ previously claimed that she found it tough to establish herself in the TV industry.
She said: “I found it tricky to navigate my way around a space that sometimes made me feel ‘other’.
“My accent was a big thing, but what was confusing was there were other regional accents – Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac were on BBC Sounds.
“It was more that I was black and northern, rather than just northern. It was hard for people to get over that. It was a lot being black, female, and northern all at once.
“It was tricky at times. I did doubt myself because I was essentially being told to not be me. But all you can do is lean on your support network.”

Chris Moyles lost a stone and a half on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Moyles lost “a stone and a half” during his time on ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’.
The 48-year-old star has revealed that he lost a dramatic amount of weight during his recent stint on the ITV show.
Chris shared: “I got weighed right at the beginning of isolation and they weigh you literally the first thing you do when you come out, you go see the medical officer and they weigh you and check that you’re alright and not lost the plot and what not. So yeah, I lost weight.”
Asked how much weight he’s actually shed, Chris said on Radio X: “I’ve lost a stone and a half.”
Chris also revealed that he’d love to see Jill Scott or Owen Warner win the ITV show.
He explained: “I’d love Jill to win, because I think she has no idea how funny she is.
“She’s so quick and so funny. And we talked about meeting up to watch one of the England games … and then go for a curry. And Babatunde’s up for that, Owen’s up for that, if Mike’s available, he’s up for it. And Jill said, ‘Ah yeah, count me in’. And I’m like ‘Jill, if you are not hired to do punditry on an England game the moment you get out, then there’s something wrong with the world’ because she’s so funny and so sharp, and she has no idea.
“So for that reason, I would love her to be queen of the jungle. And there’s certainly been more kings of the jungle than queens. But if it was a king of the jungle, then I’d want Owen to win it because I think he’d be flabbergasted and it would mean a lot to him.”
Listen to ‘The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X’, with Toby Tarrant sitting in for Chris while he’s in Australia, weekdays from 6:30am -10am and Saturdays 8am – 11am.

Seann Walsh seventh contestant to be ejected from ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Seann Walsh is the seventh contestant to be ejected from ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’
The stand-up comic’s elimination on Friday night’s episode (25.11.22) follows DJ Chris Moyles’ exit on Thursday and Babatunde Aleshe’s the previous night.
Hosts Ant and Dec announced Seann was out after the public voted to keep Owen Warner after the pair ended up in the bottom two.
Seann’s exit leaves Owen along with Conservative MP Matt Hancock, ex-England footballer Jill Scott and former rugby player Mike Tindall in the final four.
The comic told Ant and Dec after it was revealed his time in the jungle was over: “So many memories. So many amazing memories. I loved it. It is tough, and I don’t know how that comes across on screen.
“As soon as you said my name, all of the tough bit just goes, and now I’m left with absolutely incredible memories. I’m gonna need a long time to process.”
Jill and Owen are leading the way as bookies’ favourites to take the jungle crown.
Seann’s eviction came after Matt and Mike earned four stars in Friday night’s Bushtucker Trial.
Also out of the show are Culture Club singer Boy George, who left on Tuesday, with ‘Coronation Street’ actress Sue Cleaver, broadcaster Charlene White and ‘A Place in the Sun’ presenter Scarlette Douglas also sent home.
In his post-elimination interview, Chris told Ant and Dec he was “gutted” he was “less popular than Matt Hancock”.
The penultimate episode of ‘I’m A Celebrity’ is on tomorrow night (26.11.22) at 9.15pm on ITV1 and is available on ITV Hub, Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Player.
