Ben Affleck takes aim at Netlfix for ‘assembly line process’ of making films

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck has criticised Netflix for their “assembly line process” of film production.
The 50-year-old actor has launched the production company Artists Equity with his friend Matt Damon and has revealed that he wants to focus on smaller dramas rather than action blockbusters as he questioned the streaming giant for focusing on “quantity” over quality.
Speaking at the New York Times’ Dealbook Summit, Ben said: “If you ask (Netflix co-CEO and chairman) Reed Hastings… he’d say, ‘Hey, we went for quantity to establish a footprint.’
“I’m sure there’s wisdom in that and I’m sure they had a great strategy, but I would have said, ‘How are we going to make 50 great movies? How is that possible?’ There’s no committee big enough. There aren’t enough – you just can’t do it.”
The ‘Deep Water’ star continued: “It’s a thing that requires attention and dedication and work and resists the assembly line process.
“(Netflix’s head of original films) Scott Stuber is a really talented, smart guy who I really like… but it’s an impossible job.”
Ben explained that a big motivation of his is to make the audience “care” about what they are watching on screen.
He said: “There’s bigger audience for action movies than there is for small dramas. I get that. Certain genres play more broadly and you can’t not be mindful of that. But let’s do a good one, let’s surprise the audience, let’s make them care about it.”
Ben and Matt unveiled plans for Artists Equity last month and are looking to create “entrepreneurial partnerships” with filmmakers.
Affleck, who will be CEO of the company, said: “Artists Equity was conceived from Matt’s and my longtime passion for the art of storytelling and our shared desire to help creators deliver on their vision, as we have been fortunate to do throughout our careers.
“The entertainment industry is defined by great partnerships – writers, directors, producers, crew, actors – and throughout my career I have learned that collaboration is what drives success. Our goal with Artists Equity is to build a creator-focused studio that can optimise the production process with shared participation in the commercial success of projects.”

Ryan Reynolds: Superhero films are easier than musicals!

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds won’t make another musical in his career.
The 46-year-old actor has to sing and dance in his new film ‘Spirited’, and while he’s comfortable with fight scenes in action movies, he admitted he struggled much more with the choreography of the by Apple TV+ festive flick.
Speaking to Big Issue magazine, the ‘Deadpool’ star said: “Training for a superhero movie is something I’ve been doing since I was 20 and I’m 46 now. It’s second nature to me. Doing a fight sequence is in my bones. I memorise them very fast.
“I can make a mistake and use that mistake to my advantage in the moment.
“Whereas dancing, if I make one mistake, I completely fall apart. I don’t know if I would [make a musical] again. I don’t think so.
“They’re such vastly different disciplines.
“When you haven’t spent your life at a craft like song and dance, you’re just always playing catch-up.
“Thank god we have 15, 20, 30, 50 takes to get it right!”
Although he struggled with his steps, Ryan really enjoyed watching the dancers at work on the film.
He said: “I loved watching the dancers and singers that were working on the movie. Getting a front row seat to their talent was one of the great privileges of my whole life. And I mean that. They’re often overlooked.
“You’ll find dancers clumped together in the credits of a movie, but they’re pillars of the storytelling.”
But the Canadian star teased he could incorporate a musical number into his hoped-for ‘Deadpool’ Christmas special.
He added: “I would love to see a song and dance number in a ‘Deadpool’ movie.
“Four years ago we wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool but it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made. Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie.”

Liam Reardon reveals he broke up with Millie Court

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Reardon has revealed that he broke up with Millie Court.
The 23-year-old reality TV star – who won ‘Love Island’ with Millie, 26 – revealed he ended their year-long relationship because he needed to focus on himself.
Speaking on ‘Celebs Go Dating’, Liam said: “In the villa everything was stripped back, you’ve just got each other, and I fell in love with Millie, and we just went from strength-to-strength.
“I moved straight from Wales to Essex to be with Millie, leaving all my family and friends.
“The life I did have is almost not there. It’s been a rollercoaster, I went from a small life in Wales, being a bricklayer – to being catapulted into this new life and I found it difficult.
“You’re trying to give 100 per cent to each other, you’re trying to give 100 per cent to yourself, you’re trying to give 100 per cent to this new life and career and it’s hard to juggle everything at once.
“I instigated it because if we want to be together, I want to be 100 per cent together.

“Just never say never, in the future we could rekindle.”

He said: “I don’t know, you don’t know what will happen in the future.
“All I know she is a lovely person; she makes a great girlfriend, but our timing right now wasn’t right for us.
“So, who knows what’s going to happen in the future.”

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio themes

OHMYGOSSIP — Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ deals with the themes of love and death.
The 58-year-old Mexican filmmaker is proud of his stop-motion take on Carlo Collodi’s 1883 story and says it has parallels to today’s world.
He explained: “I thought it was important to deal with how briefly we have each other and how life is made valuable by death, which are concepts that are very, very Mexican, but [ones] that, ultimately, I believe in.
“The film is thematically about different types of fatherhood — what it is to be a father, what it is to be a child. And there are different types of parental figures in the movie. Some are lethal, some are exploitative, some are permeable to love. And, finally, a very paternalistic concern is the fascist idea of the Fatherland and the father-figure style of leadership.
““I was hoping to talk about things that were very important for me and that would reflect today. One of the things that I cherish as a virtue is disobedience. I thought that the idea of Pinocchio behaving as a free agent and a disobedient soul in a time when obedience is expected of everyone would be very important, especially in a moment like now.”
del Toro also revealed that ‘Pinocchio’ won’t be his last time working on animation.
He said: “My hope right now is to slow down, and the ideal place to slow down for me is animation, because it is far more my speed. We were able to react to the material on a week-to-week basis. We were able to re-board sequences, we were able to add sequences. It is really a beautiful pace that is more deliberate, but also just simply more organic to the way I like to make movies. I intend to, if I can, transition between live action and animation, and slowly but surely lean toward animation.”

Kym Marsh is tenth celebrity to depart ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2022’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh is the tenth celebrity to depart ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2022’.
The remaining couples took to the ballroom for a musical special on Saturday night (03.12.22) in the hope of impressing judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas, as well as the voting public.
Kym faced Molly Rainford in the dance off, with both couples performing their routines again.
Molly and her dance partner Carlos Gu danced their Charleston to ‘Hot Honey Rag’ from the musical ‘Chicago’.
Then Kym and Graziano Di Prima performed their Cha Cha to ‘Fame’ from the musical ‘Fame’.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts.
Craig chose to save Molly and Carlos, saying: “It’s always so difficult at this point of the competition, because both couples danced brilliantly, I don’t want to see either couple go. I am really splitting hairs, but the couple I want to save, based just on the best dance tonight for me is Molly and Carlos.”
Motsi also went for Molly and Carlos and said: “First of all, I want to say to both of you, that you can be so, so proud of yourselves. You’ve both been so great and amazing. I’m going to base my decision on this dance off and I’m going to save Molly and Carlos.”
Anton opted for Kym and Graziano, saying: “As you’d expect at this time of the competition, the quality of the dance off was incredible, I thought both couples danced brilliantly, but I felt one couple raised their game with a freedom which they didn’t have on Friday night, and because of that I am going to save Kym and Graziano.”
With two votes to Molly and Carlos, and one to Kym and Graziano it meant head judge Shirley had the casting vote, and decided to save Molly and Carlos.
She said: “Well first of all huge congratulations to both couples. Both couples danced exquisitely, it’s been a very difficult decision to make. But based on this dance and this dance alone, I’m going to save Molly and Carlos.”
When host Tess Daly asked Kym if she had any final words, the actress said: “Honestly I’ve loved every single second that I’ve been here. I never thought I’d get to this stage, in a million years. I have to say, it’s all down to this man (Graziano) here – he is just wonderful and he will be my friend forever. But what a journey it’s been, this show is just wonderful, it shows you things about yourself you don’t know, it shows you how tough you can be.
“Everybody, the crew, the celebs, the pros, costume, make up, everyone is amazing. I’ve had the best time, so thank you.”
On the support from her family, Kym added: “My dad has been so proud and it’s kind of kept him going. When he was in hospital last week, and obviously we weren’t here, all these guys sent him videos and it meant such a lot. My grandchildren are so proud.”
When asked if he had any words for his partner, Graziano said: “I will be part of your family forever, I think we became friends from the very first day. I know you’ve learnt how to dance, but I have learnt so much from you, you are a warrior. You’re going to be in my heart forever, we’re going to be together many times, because I know I have found a friend for life.”
The show opened with a dazzling routine from the Strictly professional dancers in an energetic number from ‘Guys and Dolls’.
Plus ‘The Cher Show’ performed a medley of hits.
The remaining five couples will take to the dancefloor next week for the semi- final when ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ will air live on Sunday December 10 at 7.15pm, with the results show on Monday 11th December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Molly Rainford ‘deflated’ after two weeks in Strictly Come Dancing bottom two

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly Rainford has found it “really deflating” being in the bottom two on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The CBBC star – who is partnered by Carlos Gu on the show – has been in the dreaded dance off for the last two weeks and though she has been saved by the judges ahead of Tyler West and Kym Marsh, she admitted her confidence has taken a knock.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “I was feeling nervous being in the bottom two again.
“Sunday can be really deflating and it can be hard to get your confidence back. But you have to find a way to dust yourself off and get back up.”
The former ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ contestant knows no one on the show is “safe”, no matter how good a dancer they are.
She said: “I was close to Tyler and we spent a lot of time together.
“I miss him being part of the competition.
“The hardest thing is, he did a great dance and still went home.
“That’s the thing now – no one is safe. Even if you’re a good dancer, you’re still in danger.”
One of the toughest aspects Molly has found about taking part in the show is that “everyone has an opinion”, but she’s trying to block out external voices.
The 22-year-old beauty said: “Everyone has an opinion on ‘Strictly’ and everyone is a judge, which can be quite hard.
“I’ve had to learn not to look at all the comments and just focus on myself and the dance.
“There have been so many more positive comments than negative, but it’s easier to focus on the negative ones if you’re not careful.”

Bobby Davro engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — Bobby Davro has got engaged.
The 64-year-old comic proposed to Vicky Wright – who he has had an on/off relationship with for 12 years – last month and the pair celebrated their impending nuptials with a party for friends and family at The Kings Arms in Egham, Surrey, a few fays ago.
Vicky – who is the daughter of former England footballer Billy Wright and the Beverley Sisters’ Joy Beverley, gushed: “I’m on cloud nine”.
During the party, surprise video messages from pals including Sir Cliff Richard, Lee Mead and Gilbert O’Sullivan to the bride-to-be were broadcast on a big screen.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Vicky was touched with all the messages.
“They’re wasn’t a dry eye in the house. They plan to tie the knot next year.”
The engagement will bring some welcome joy to the former ‘EastEnders’ actor – who has three children with ex-wife Trudi Jameson – because he previously admitted the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on him financially as he was not able to work and emotionally after his dad died Bill at the start of 2021 at the age of 95.
He said: “There was no work at all. I only did three gigs last year. I’ve had a terrible couple of years, like most people in showbusiness. But it wasn’t just the work and the money, I missed performing. It’s like a drug to me, I love it. I did a couple of Zoom shows but I don’t like doing that.
“It’s been very difficult and I took out a bounceback loan. I read somewhere that I was bankrupt. I’m not broke but it’s been worrying. Then I lost my father at the start of the year, which was miserable. He was 95 and I miss him every single day. I used to speak to him three or four times a day. I’m so used to calling him that a few weeks ago I forgot he’d died and dialled his number.
“It sounds like a really tough time … You’ve got to look at things glass half-full. The lockdown gave me the opportunity to spend more time with my dad during the last year of his life so in a way that was a good thing because I usually work away an awful lot.”

Dame Helen Mirren was intimidated by Harrison Ford

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Helen Mirren felt “very intimidated” by Harrison Ford when they first worked together.
The Oscar-winning actress was a “nobody” when she teamed up with the ‘Star Wars’ actor on 1986 movie ‘The Mosquito Coast’ and she was very nervous of working with the star, now 80, because he had made such a name for himself in both the space franchise and the ‘Indiana Jones’ films.
She admitted: “When we first worked together, he was a huge movie star and I was like nobody. I was very intimidated, very intimidated.”
But the 77-year-old actress admitted she “learned a lot” from working with Harrison on the film and still carries some of his lessons with her now.
She continued: “But also, I learned a lot from him because I hadn’t done a lot. I’d done a lot of theater at that point, I hadn’t done a lot of movies. So I watched him, and he taught me a great deal about film acting that to this day [that] I’m still using.”
The pair have now reteamed on ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off ‘1923’ and Harrison is delighted to be working with ‘The Queen’ actress once again.
He told reporters at the show’s premiere on Friday (02.12.22) evening: “I admire her work and her person [now], and I have all the same degree of admiration for her as I did then.
“She’s wonderful, she’s just a lovely person, and so it’s been both a professional pleasure and a personal pleasure working with her again.”
The pair signed up to play farming couple Jacob and Cara Dutton in the show because of the “extraordinary” writing of creator Taylor Sheridan.
Harrison said: “The writing and the ambition of the piece that’s evident from the scope and scale of it, [drew me to the role]. And the precision of his language and dialogue, and the character.”
Helen added: “To be a part of something that is so exciting within the American sort of entertainment world, but also to be a part of something that is investigating American history in this particular way [is great].
“You can’t do it in two hours, you know, it’s great to have that great sprawl, and I just thought earlier on, it’s like a big Russian novel. It’s like ‘War and Peace’, you know, that real sense of an enormous arc of history. And to be a character within that, it’s very exciting.”

Robbie William plans TV talent show

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has an idea for a TV talent show.
The ‘Rock DJ’ hitmaker – who was a judge on the 15th and final series of ‘The X Factor’ in 2018 alongside wife Ayda Field, Simon Cowell and Louis Tomlinson – claimed he is ready to pitch a competition series that has “never been seen before”, as well as writing a dark comedy programme too.
He told Andrew Gold on his ‘On The Edge’ podcast: “I’ve written a TV show which is a dark comedy.
“And I’ve come up with this idea for a talent show that’s sort of never been seen before, in a different way.”
While the former Take That singer has been marking 25 years as a solo artist with his ‘XXV’ tour, he’s been keeping busy in many other ways too.
He said: “I’m currently drawing and making these funny cartoons… well, I think they’re funny – I’ve got six or seven hundred of them.
“And I had my first exhibition at Sotheby’s.
“There’s 100 songs on my computer that nobody’s ever heard. That’s like the vault. That’s the addictive nature.”
The 48-year-old singer – who has battled various addictions but has been sober for 22 years – believes he can do “great things” when he finds an outlet for his energy.
He said: “If I can channel it, I can do great things with it.
“For example, I’ve started walking. I have an iWatch, and I do 25,000 steps a day because I get addicted to walking.”
Back in 2020, Robbie claimed he had ideas for five TV shows in the works, though it’s not known if the comedy series or talent show were among them.
He said: “There is a new avenue that I am moving into – TV. I am very, very excited about it.
“I hope we go back to normal soon because I have got so many TV ideas that I wanna do a myriad, a smorgasbord.
“There is literally so many. I have got five in the works right now. It is such an early stage I daren’t talk about it.”

David Tennant wanted Litvinenko family approval

OHMYGOSSIP — David Tennant “craved” the approval of Alexander Litvinenko’s family when he agreed to play him in a new TV show.
The 51-year-old actor stars as the former Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officer-turned-British intelligence advisor – who died in London in 2006 after being poisoned – in ITVX’s new three-part series ‘Litvinenko’ and he was pleased he had the opportunity to meet his widow Marina before filming began.
He said: “It’s a story that has repercussions every day that we live through, you’re very aware of that.
“Once you meet Marina, you feel you’re not only carrying the importance of this story as a fable for our times, as a signifier for things that the world needs to be alerted to, you’re also carrying the story of a family and the story of a couple and that felt very precious and very delicate.
“It’s something that we were all acutely aware of the whole time… it means so much to us Marina and [Alexander’s son] Anatoly give us their blessing, That’s the one thing we’ve all craved, because this is a hugely important story for the world, [but] it’s also the story of a family and that’s something that was with us every minute on set.”
David vividly remembered the story unfolding at the time and was impressed with how writers tackled the subsequent investigation for the show.
He said: “I remember being appalled and bewildered and shocked and confused by the news story, like the rest of the world was.
“And then to read the way that George [Kay] had written the script and told the story was captivating and compelling.”
The veteran actor found it particularly “intense” shooting scenes where Litvinenko carried out scenes from his hospital bed.
He said: “Jim [Field Smith, director] helped us by giving us space and allowing us to inhabit that moment, as much as you ever can,” he said. “A film set by its very nature is an artificial construct, but you do all you can to try and get past that.
“When I was in the bed, I tended to stay in the bed, and the crew were very respectful about sort of being… not at a distance, very much connected to the action, but being very respectful of the sorts of processes everyone needed to go through, because it did feel very intimate.”

Sigourney Weaver channelled teenage self into new Avatar role

OHMYGOSSIP — Sigourney Weaver channelled her teenage self into ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.
The 73-year-old actress portrays 14-year-old Kiri, a Na’Vi, in the long-awaited sequel to 2009’s ‘Avatar’ and she used her memories of being “self-conscious” but imaginative at the same age to drive her performance.
She said: “I usually wore black turtlenecks and an olive-green suede jumper/tunic thing. It was kind of like a beatnik outfit, I guess.
“I think it’s a great age, you know? Kids are so imaginative at that age – they’re so sensitive, easily hurt, easily thrilled and they see things so clearly. I tried to allow that self-conscious, awkward energy [I had] to flow into the character.”
Sigourney starred in the original ‘Avatar’ film but her character Grace, a scientist, was killed off towards the end and she had every confidence in director James Cameron when he pitched an idea for her to return to the franchise in a different way.
She told You magazine: “I thought, ‘Well, Jim is smart. If he thinks I can do this, let’s give it a whirl!’
“I don’t think John Wayne was asked to play a 14 year old when he was in his 70s. It’s something new.”
A lot of the film is set underwater so the cast underwent a year of free-diving training with US Navy Seals and Sigourney can now hold her breath for six and a half minutes while submerged.
She laughed: “It does remind you a little bit of those great British adventurers like Captain Cook, who went on these amazing sailing ships to the other side of the world.”
The ‘Aliens’ actress is very proud of her work, admitting she has had “exactly the career [she] wanted”, although she insisted that doesn’t mean she has “all the answers”.
She said: “I think that it’s OK to not have all the answers, you know? People look at me like I have answers to things. I don’t. I’m just in the pond along with everybody else.”

Vince Vaughn has a ‘fun idea’ for Dodgeball sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Vince Vaughn has a “fun idea” for a ‘Dodgeball’ sequel but he will only move forward with the project if it feels “right”.
The actor has opened up about plans for a potential follow-up to his 2004 movie and admitted his co-star Ben Stiller is “in the same boat” when it comes to plotting a return – insisting they won’t make the film unless it’s “funny”.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: ” They’ve always talked about these things forever and I had an idea that was fun and the studio likes it, so we’ll see where it goes.
“I think Ben [Stiller] is open to doing it, I think he’s in the same boat as me actually which is if it’s a really fun and great idea then that’s fun, but if it’s just something to go do it again then why?
“I think for all of us if it feels right and it’s funny, it would be something to go back to, and if it’s not, it’s just another idea getting kicked around.”
Vince went on to explain he’s been cautious about signing up to sequels of his hit movies as he doesn’t want to revive films just for the sake of it.
He added: “I’ve had so many movies that I’ve been fortunate with and I never jumped into the sequels for that reason. Because I always felt like if you’re just doing it because you think it’s a way to get an audience, the problem is you’re not going to feel good on the other side of it. So we’ve waited and I’m sure one of them will make sense, there’s some continuation that will work.”
It comes after Vince’s co-star Justin Long gave his thoughts on the sequel plans and revealed he was worried Stiller might be having reservations about it.
He told ComicBook.com: “So I had just been around Vince a lot, and Vince had been telling me that he has this great idea for a sequel. “I don’t know if he had yet pitched it to Ben, but I kind of set up the pitch, I felt like I should facilitate the pitch. “Of course I would love to do it and I hope that it ends up happening, but I think Ben is a little, what he told me on that podcast was that he’s a little trepidatious about doing a sequel to something so beloved, something that people enjoy so much that. “It’s very risky, you don’t wanna s*** on the original, you want something just as good. “So I think [Ben is] a little wary of that, of trying to recreate something that was very specific to that time, but I hope he comes around on it.”
