Rian Johnson ‘pushing’ for Glass Onion to have longer cinema run

OHMYGOSSIP — Rian Johnson is “pushing” for ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ to return to cinemas.
The murder mystery film was given a one-week theatrical run last month before it begins streaming on Netflix on December 23.
Netflix chief Reed Hastings said that the company left “lots” of money on the table but not giving the movie a wide release and Rian hopes that it can be seen by more people.
He told Insider: “Any theatres we can get into at any point, I’m pushing for. I want more people to have the opportunity to be able to watch it.”
Rian explained that it is still unclear whether cinemas will screen the film over the Christmas period.
The ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ director said: “Once it’s on the service, it will be available to theatres, and we’re exploring what form that can take.
“I’ll take as much as I can possibly get. But a lot of that has to do with what the theatres are willing to do, what makes sense.”
Insiders suggest that ‘Glass Onion’ earned $13 million at the US box office over the Thanksgiving holiday and Johnson confirmed that the figures were accurate, although he wants more time in the cinema for the third ‘Knives Out’ flick.
Rian said: “We were very interested in how it did. We wanted it to do incredibly well for a lot of reasons. I guess for me because I really want to show that this can happen and this can be a huge success.
“And that when it hits the service, people will still turn up, and it will be huge on the service. That those two things can complement each other. Because I want more next time. I want more theatres. I want it for longer.”

Christopher Eccleston: I prefer working with female directors

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Eccleston prefers to work with female directors.
The 58-year-old actor has revealed that he relishes working with female directors because they create a “safer” working environment.
Christopher – who is perhaps best known for playing the ninth incarnation of the Doctor on ‘Doctor Who’ – shared: “I have a 90-year-old mum and she’s guided my life entirely. I’ve always been drawn to working with female directors and theatre … I’ve always found it a more playful environment, a safer environment.
“Patriarchy cocks everybody up. It did its damage to me as well, you know. So, having a daughter of nine, I’ve been seeing the world through her lens, and I certainly feel, for instance, my mum’s called Elsie, she’s 90.
“My daughter’s called Esme, she’s nine. The world Esme is going into is so much better in terms of equality than it was for my mum. So, it’s nice to see that.”
Christopher has actually encouraged his daughter to try her hand at directing and producing.
The actor is determined to ensure that she learns some lessons from his own career, if she decides to follow him into the entertainment industry.
Christopher told Sky News: “My daughter, I’ve told her that she must run the National Theatre. I said if she wants to act, she’s got to direct and produce as well.
“Because what I understood, you know, if I had my time again, being a working-class person, I would go for a position of power rather than just acting. So, I’ve said to her, she must run the National Theatre or be prime minister.
“You don’t just want to be an actor. That’s particularly if you’re a woman, you need to produce direct, and I think she will probably do it.”

He shared: “‘Corrie’ has historically always done [family-oriented episodes].
“A few years ago we went a little bit ‘Die Hard’ with the Gary and Shona funfair and we absolutely loved it – it allowed us to do a thriller-ish conceptual trailer for it, and it was all very exciting.
“But we’re right in our wheelhouse now with this Christmas. It’s got loads of comedy, family fun and loads of warmth.”
Iain admitted that the upcoming storyline has even reduced him to tears.
The producer has also promised fans of the long-running soap that they will love the Christmas episodes.

“It feels totally Christmassy and totally ‘Corrie’. It’s a warm, good-spirited end to the year for us.”

Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee wanted to cull Olaf

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Frozen’ co-director Jennifer Lee wanted to get rid of Olaf from ‘Frozen’.
The chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation was honoured with the Distinguished Storyteller Award at the Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night (04.12.22), where she made the confession upon being presented the award by Olaf himself, Josh Gad.
She began: “Josh is Olaf.”
Jennifer explained that after seeing one of the early cuts of the film, her “first” bit of feedback was: “Kill the snowman.”
However, Josh managed to win over the filmmaker with his performance as the hilarious snowman created by Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) in their childhood.
The 2013 movie swiftly became a multi-million-selling franchise, with the first film grossing more than $1.2 billion at the global box office.
The 2019 sequel proved even more successful, raking in $1.450 billion.
Josh previously revealed that the project got off to a rocky start.
He explained: “I’ll never forget, six or seven months prior to the movie coming out, I was with (songwriter) Bobby Lopez … so I said, ‘How’s the movie coming?’ and he goes, ‘Well, we just screened the movie and it’s a mess.'”
The ‘Artemis Fowl’ star recalled asking if the project could be rescued, when he was informed that ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman?’ was being introduced into the 2013 movie.
He was told by Bobby: “I hope so. Yeah, we’re playing around with this idea now, like we need this moment where we really see the girls’ affection for each other early.
“So we’re playing with this song, that’s called ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman?'”

Director Andrew Dominik hits back after Blonde backlash

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Dominik has hit back following criticism over the way Marilyn Monroe was portrayed in his film ‘Blonde’.
The director has faced a backlash from Monroe fans following the release of the Netflix film – which stars Ana de Armas as the troubled movie star – but he’s insisted the film “doesn’t make any difference” to the late star’s legacy.
Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, he said of US audiences’ reaction to the film: “They hated the movie!”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he added: “Now we’re living in a time where it’s important to present women as empowered, and they want to reinvent Marilyn Monroe as an empowered woman. That’s what they want to see. And if you’re not showing them that, it upsets them.
“Which is kind of strange, because she’s dead. The movie doesn’t make any difference in one way or another.”
The film showed Monroe being exploited by various men in her life as well as depictions of traumas including rape and abortion, and Dominik feels audiences didn’t like seeing Monroe being portrayed as a victim.
He added: “What they really mean is that the film exploited their memory of her, their image of her, which is fair enough. But that’s the whole idea of the movie. It’s trying to take the iconography of her life and put it into service of something else, it’s trying to take things that you’re familiar with, and turning the meaning inside out. But that’s what they don’t want to see.”

Title confirmed for Indiana Jones 5

OHMYGOSSIP — The new ‘Indiana Jones’ movie has been given a title.
The fifth installment in the action adventure franchise will be called ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’.
Disney have unveiled the first official trailer for the movie which features flashbacks that de-age Harrison Ford and the return of classic characters such as Sallah (John Rhys-Davies).
The film – which will be Harrison Ford’s final outing as Indy and is being released in June 2023 – is set in 1969 and the plot centres on Indy suspecting that some of the Nazi scientists brought to the US to help out in the Space Race could be secretly sabotaging the country.
Indy’s suspicions are proven right because former Nazi and current NASA scientist Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) is plotting to use the moon landing to reset the world as he sees fit.
Harrison has promised that the new movie will be his final film as Indy and has teased a “really human story”.
The 80-year-old star said earlier this year: “We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass.
“This is it! I will not fall down for you again.”
James Mangold has taken over from Steven Spielberg behind the camera on the movie and explained his bold creative choice to de-age Ford for the flick’s opening sequence.
He said: “I wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on George-and-Steven (Lucas and Spielberg) old picture and give the audience an adrenaline blast.
“And then we fall out, and you find yourself in 1969. So that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the 40s and 60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days… and then the beginning of now.”

Neil Gaiman to voice talking mongoose in Nandor Fodor

OHMYGOSSIP — Neil Gaiman will voice a talking mongoose in the dark comedy ‘Nandor Fodor’.
‘The Sandman’ writer is the latest addition to the flick being directed by Adam Sigal from his own script and joins an ensemble that includes Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver and Christopher Lloyd.
The movie is based on true events and follows British-American psychoanalyst Nandor Fondor (Peg) on his search to discover the real Talking Mongoose Gef.
Gaiman is voicing the mongoose with Driver starring as Fodor’s assistant Anne who accompanies him into uncharted territory.
Tim Downie, Ruth Connell, Paul Kaye, Gary Beadle and Drew Moerlin round out the cast.
Sasha Yelaun and Dominic Burns are producing alongside Karl Hall under Future Artists Entertainment and Jack Christian of Filmology Finance.
Neil said: “I first read about Gef, the mysterious talking mongoose, when I was at school in a book of true-life ghost stories.
“I never thought I’d find myself narrating a film about his exploits, or indeed, providing his voice. But the chance to work with old friends like Simon Pegg and Minnie Driver was irresistible, and I hope very much I have managed to do the mysterious mongoose justice.”
Co-producer Clare Bateman-King added: “Neil is one-of-a-kind and his creativity is unlimited.
“This is such an integral part to the film and we truly needed somebody who could bring an impactful and effective energy to the voice of the mongoose. It’s been such a fun time getting Neil involved and we’re so excited for the moment audiences hear his take on the fabled mongoose Gef.”
Gaiman’s other work includes ‘American Gods’, ‘Coraline’ and ‘Good Omens’, all of which have been adapted for the big or small screen.

The story of the footballing duo will be retold in new drama ‘Fash’ -and will focus on the peril of former Nottingham Forest star Justin – who was the first openly gay footballer but took his own life at the age of 37 in 1998 – and Norwich City player John, 60, who infamously abandoned his older brother upon learning of his homosexuality.
A press statement read: “‘Fash’ is the poignant, compelling and heartbreaking story of two complex and conflicted brothers, Justin and John Fashanu, and fearlessly uncompromising exploration of the institutional prejudices which tore them apart
John is serving as a consultant on the series – which has been written by BAFTA nominee Kwame Kwei-Armah – alongside close friend activist Peter Tatchell and a number of other contributors – will be available as a boxset on ITVX once the first episode has aired on ITV1 in 2023.
He said: “I’m so pleased to be working with Kwame and Happy Prince on this project. Much has been said and written about the relationship Justin and I shared over the years, but drama of this type has an ability to delve right to the beating heart and truth of events in a way other media can’t. I feel privileged to play a part in bringing it to the screen.”
Meanwhile, Kwame explained that he wanted to “dive into the past” with the project after years of being fascinated with the pair of sports stars.
He said: “I grew up watching the Fashanu brothers. I was fascinated by them. Inspired by them. As an adult, my heart breaks for them. ‘The past is a foreign land’, the saying goes, ‘they do things differently there’. In Fash, I wanted to dive into that past, particularly one that has so many resonances with today

Mark Gatiss says the false teeth was the hardest part of playing Larry Grayson.

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Gatiss says the false teeth was the hardest part of playing Larry Grayson.
The 56-year-old actor stars as late comedian Larry in the upcoming drama series ‘Nolly’ got into character in lots of different ways for the new series created by Russell T Davies – due out in the new year – but the costume was a huge factor in embodying the 80s legend and host of ‘The Generation Game’.
He told Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “The teeth! I had a set of false teeth. And then I got a wig and then the rest is the speech.
“Oh, and the glasses on the chain are imperative.”
Mark – who consumed hours of footage as prep – loved his “absolutely filthy” rountines and playing an icon
He said: “I watched so many videos and kept putting in little bits that I learned.
“Some of his bits were just brilliant and absolutely filthy, but Saturday night audiences just totally lapped it up. It’s an honour to play a gay icon like Larry and also someone who was so much part of our TV growing up.”
The ITVX drama will also star Helena Bonham Carter in the title role of the actress Noele Goodman – one of Larry’s best pals – after her sacking from the soap ‘Crossroads’ in 1981.
Recently, the former ‘Doctor Who’ star admitted that he “loved” Larry “as a kid”, calling him – and figures like ‘Are You Being Served’ star John Inman – “just part of a TV culture. I didn’t ever remember feeling ‘pansy shame’ or anything like that. I just thought they were funny.”
Mark spilled that a showbiz pal of his “who was very active in early gay politics” loathed the Larry and his silence about his sexuality – during a time when it was controversial to be gay – and how “he said: ‘I could only ever think of him as the enemy.
The ‘Sherlock’ star confessed to being “struck” by this and how Russell saw Larry as a “trailblazer” despite his silence.
Mark said: I was very struck by that. Russell thinks that, on the contrary, these people were trailblazers. I think the truth is something somewhere in between. You could argue that they were, for all their outrageousness, sort of neutered. If actually they’d said: ‘Yes, I have a boyfriend’, maybe the general public would have reacted in horror.”
He continued: “But it can be both – both a stereotype and empowering. Larry takes this stuff into the living room, and some of it is unbelievable.”

Happy Valley’s third series will begin on New Year’s Day

OHMYGOSSIP — The third and final series of ‘Happy Valley’ will begin on New Year’s Day.
The BAFTA Award-winning series stars former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Sarah Lancashire as Sgt Catherine Cawood and the last outing of the show will explore a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir which will lead the West Yorkshire policewoman back to repeat offender nemesis Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton).
A press release said: “When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce [James Norton]. Her grandson, Ryan [Rhys Connah], is now sixteen and has ideas of his own about the kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father, leaving Catherine’s sister Clare [Siobhan Finneran] caught in the middle. In another part of the valley, a local pharmacist gets in over his head when a neighbour is arrested.”
‘Happy Valley’ is created and written by Sally Wainwright – who is also known for penning series such as ‘At Home with the Braithwaites’ and ‘ Last Tango in Halifax’ – has not been seen on screen since 2016 and she recently explained that the gap was to create an angle that would see Ryan old enough to make his own decisions in his series.
She said: “I think it’s going to be good. I think it’s going to be exciting. We’ve got some very good stories. The plan was to wait for Ryan to
be older so that he can make his own choices about whether he wants to have contact with his dad or not. So it really explores that.”
‘Happy Valley’ begins 9pm on Sunday 1 January 2023, New Year’s Day, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Helen said: “This is like a long story short, but I get, I was really annoyed last week because I won’t go into too much detail but basically I hate it when mums are made to feel uncomfortable in kind of like I don’t know…”

Jacqueline Jossa was ‘really nervous’ to return to EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacqueline Jossa was “really nervous” to return to ‘EastEnders.’
The 30-year-old actress initially starred as Lauren Branning in the BBC soap opera from 2010 until 2018 but is due to return to the role as part of two special episodes depicting the funeral of legendary character Dot Cotton – who died off-screen on 1 December following the death of actress June Brown at the age of 95 earlier this year – and eventually felt as if she was “back at home” on set.
She said: “I was really nervous because, no matter what, it’s always such a big thing to be at EastEnders. But when I got there, it didn’t feel like anything had changed. It just felt like being back at home. The two episodes are very emotional from top to bottom because there are so many layers.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner went on to add that Lauren – who is the granddaughter of Dot – is still the same as she was but admitted that the return was “bittersweet.”
She told DigitalSpy: “She’s still the same old Lauren, but maybe grown up a little bit! I think she’ll be able to provide some updates about other members of the Branning family! Hopefully, Lauren coming home is something positive and light. Obviously, Lauren is upset to lose Grandma Dot, but it’s a bittersweet feeling to be back.”
However, Lauren added that June – who played launderette assistant Dot from 1985 until 1993 and again from 1997 until 2020 – “deserved” the special send-off and that she had “learned everything” about her craft from her co-stars.
She said: “June deserves the send-off she’s going to get at EastEnders, and I wanted to be a part of that and be involved. It was nice to be there to represent that side of the Branning family because there are family members always off gallivanting and doing different things. was always so lucky to work with the best of the bunch. I was like a sponge, and everyone I worked with, like Jo Joyner (Tanya), Jake Wood (Max), and June, were massive inspirations in my life. They were so good at their job that it was crazy. I learned pretty much everything from them.
“June was always so kind. Lauren called her character Dot, but June always made sure it was ‘Grandma Dot’. Everyone always listened to June – the choices she made were always right, and she was brilliant.”
The special episode of ‘EastEnders’ will air on December 12 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Adam Sandler doubts he will star in a film franchise

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Sandler doubts that he will ever star in a big movie franchise.
The 56-year-old actor was quizzed on whether he would consider being a part of a major tent-pole such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) but doesn’t think that the opportunity will come.
Adam told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: “I’ve never thought about it, maybe because no one has ever asked me. I don’t know. I’m very into, I love that stuff.
“I see that stuff and go wow, these amazing movies, but no it hasn’t happened and probably won’t happen.”
The ‘Happy Gilmore’ star has explained that he tries not to get “too shook up” by negative responses to his films but wishes that his family and friends didn’t have to read some of the harsh reviews.
Asked if critical comments sting, Adam said: “Sometimes. Mostly because I invite all these amazing people I care about to make movies with me, and I wish they didn’t have to read s*** about whatever we’ve made.
“But I don’t get too shook up.”
Sandler recalled his father advising him that not everybody will “like him” and that he will “fail” at times during life.
He said: “I always remember something my father said. He was a tough b******.
“He went through ups and downs in his life, like not having work for a year or two and not telling us.
“I recall one time that something didn’t go right for me. I bombed onstage or didn’t get an audition. I was upset and probably embarrassed. And he said, ‘Adam, you can’t always be happy. People aren’t always going to like you. You’re going to fail.'”
