Christopher Backus cast in Dirty Angels

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Backus has joined the cast of ‘Dirty Angels’.
The 41-year-old actor is to star alongside Eva Green and Ruby Rose in the action-thriller that is being directed by Martin Campbell, the man behind the Bond movies ‘GoldenEye’ and ‘Casino Royale’.
The story is set against the backdrop of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 and follows a group of female soldiers providing medical relief as they are sent to rescue kidnapped teenagers caught between ISIS and the Taliban.
Backus will play the Navy SEAL commander who recruits and assembles the team and ends up on the mission himself.
Alissa Silverman has penned the script for the film with shooting taking place in both Morocco and Greece.
Moshe Diamant is producing for Signature Pictures and will be joined by Rob Van Norden and Yariv Lerner for Millennium Media.

The ‘Human Trafficking’ star said: “Weekends are spent with my family on the beach and eating together at a big table. Then it’s game or movie night.”
Mira also revealed that she was planning a trip to Scandinavia so the family can explore their roots in the region.
Speaking earlier this year, she said: ” We hope to go to Norway and Sweden this summer so my kids and husband can explore the land of their Viking roots.”

Will Mellor wanted to reach Strictly final to ‘complete’ show

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor was desperate to reach the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ final to say he had “completed” the show.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star was booted out of the competition on Monday night (12.12.22), less than a week before Saturday’s (17.12.22) finale, and he is “gutted” to be out of the Latin and ballroom show.
Will – who was partnered with pro dancer Nancy Xu on the BBC programme – said: “I thought we were in trouble and you don’t want to be there on the semi-final.
“I just really wanted to get to the final, so I could say I’d completed it.
“I really wanted to get this girl there, she really deserves it, she has given me everything I could ask for, I wouldn’t of got through week one without her.
“I was gutted, but if its our turn, its our turn and we’ll dance if we have to dance, and that’s what we did.”
Nancy admits she “felt awful” when the pair were delivered the news of their exit, but she is “so proud” of Will.
She said: “He did everything I asked him to do, we have had so much fun. This week I travelled with him to see where he grew up, it has been such an amazing journey.”
On their relationship, Nancy added: “I am so grateful, thank you. I have had the best journey, I could have even imagined.
“I looked forward every day to step into that dance studio to teach him a new dance and see his face, to see him not believe in himself and question himself, and then slowly he would enjoy it and on Saturday night he would have a smile on his face! Thank you so much.”
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ actor also admitted he wouldn’t have got so far in the competition without his wife Michelle McSween’s support.
Speaking on ‘Strictly – It Takes Two’, he added: “Thanks so much to ‘Strictly’ for giving me the memories for my mum, my family, my sisters, my kids, and my wife Michelle who has been by my side every time I come home moaning and aching, and she is running my baths.
“Without her it would have been really tough, and without this lady next to me, I wouldn’t of got anywhere near this, so thank you for the memories.
“I am going to take from this, you can do things and test yourself, and take yourself out your comfort zone every now and then, and you can achieve more than you think you can.”
‘Strictly – It Takes Two’ continues every weeknight at 6:30pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ – who holds a degree from Cambridge University – will be leading Dictionary Corner on the iconic Channel 4 daytime game show this week.
The 33-year-old presenter wrote on Instagram: “Aaaahhhh VICKTIONARY CORNER!!! So so SO excited to be joining the wonderful ‘Countdown’ team on @channel4 every afternoon this week at 2 in Dictionary Corner! (sic)”
Vick shared a series of on-set snaps that featured both Dictionary Corner regular and lexicographer Susie Dent and the programme’s resident maths whizz Rachel Riley while gushing about how happy she was having “the loveliest of times with the loveliest bunch”.
She added: “MAN I LOVE WORDS SO MUCH! Thank you for having me, daada daada dadadada BUMMM (sic)”
In August, it was revealed ‘Coronation Street’ star Daniel Brocklebank had made a guest appearance on ‘Countdown’ on the show’s Dictionary Corner.
Taking to Twitter, Daniel teased his appearance on the show, by posting a snap of himself in the studio alongside a picture of his name card.
It read: “So today… and I’m very excited to announce this… starts my guest appearances on @C4Countdown sat in dictionary corner with the rather fabulous @susie_dent (sic)”
It came after Daniel’s former fellow ‘Corrie’ co-star Les Dennis was confirmed as Anne Robinson’s temporary replacement, after Anne, 77 stepped down as the show’s host after just one year in the hot seat.
Les announced the news on Twitter in July, writing: “From 4th August until 15th I shall be hosting the iconic @C4Countdown. It is such an honour. Hope you enjoy. (sic)”
Former ‘Family Fortunes’ host Les was meant to be over in Dictionary Corner, but he stepped in as temporary host instead after presenter Colin Murray – who made his debut as the stand-in presenter earlier in July – was struck down with coronavirus.

Millie Court doesn’t post bikini pics ‘to get famous’

OHMYGOSSIP — Millie Court has hit back at trolls, insisting she doesn’t post bikini pics “to get famous”.
The ex ‘Love Island’ star slammed critics who say she shares swimsuit snaps to stay relevant, insisting she is just living her life on holiday.
The 26-year-old influencer wrote on Instagram: “I was going through my comments on Instagram and some of you may not think that I do see what you write but I do.
“There are some people in this world who aren’t as nice as others. I’m at an amazing ski place Chamonix in France and I love a bikini pics.
“I take bikini pics as I would in Thailand, so I thought I would taken one in Chamonix because we have a heated pool outside and a hot tub, so we went in it afterwards.
“But people felt the need to comment saying I need to get my kit off to get famous.”
Millie says some of the comments she receives are “hurtful”.
She added: “Just being nasty and I think some people don’t realise that I can see that”
The ASOS ambassador insisted that some people think she doesn’t “have feelings” because of her victory on the ITV2 dating show with her ex Liam Reardon.
Millie said: “I think some people think I’m just an Instagram page and I’m just this TV personality because I went on one TV show that I’m not human and I don’t have feelings.
“It does actually hurt me, it is quite hurtful when I read comments like that and maybe I don’t have as thick a skin as I should but I’ve never been prepared for being in the life that I am, but I’m very very grateful for it.
“But some people aren’t as thick skin as others, me being one of them and it’s not nice.”

Love Island’s Shaughna Phillips is ‘convinced’ she is having a baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — Shaughna Phillips is “convinced” she is having a baby boy.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who took part in the sixth series of the hit ITV2 reality dating show – is now expecting her first child with her boyfriend Billy and even though she wanted a girl, now believes she is having a boy, possibly based on the shape of her bump.
She said: “I feel like it’s a boy now. I’m not entirely sure why. At the start of my pregnancy journey, I really wanted a girl – but I’m okay with having a baby boy.
I’ve seen loads of articles on how the shape of your bump can give you insight into what the gender of your baby could be, but then other places say it’s a myth. One of my friends, who has two boys, said her pregnancies were so different and she was convinced she was having a girl the second time around. Then it turned out to be a boy, which made no sense because the pregnancies were polar opposites.
“While at first I really wanted a girl, now I feel as though the gender is kind of irrelevant because I’ll be happy with either. At the end of the day, I’m going to love them no matter what.”
The 28-year-old reality star went on to add that the baby will probably be a “mama’s boy” because they are taking very little interest in their father when it comes to kicking.
Writing in her OK! Magazine column, she added: “I’m thinking the baby might be a mama’s boy, because they’re not playing with their daddy – he’s still not actually felt anything. I’ve filmed the baby quite a few times now, usually before I get in the bath I lie on my mum’s bed and just say, ‘Do something’ and wait. He’s quite active in the evenings so it usually works. My belly button just literally lifted in the air one time!”

Joe Lycett would ‘never’ have really shredded £10,000

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Lycett would “never” have really shredded £10,000.
The 34-year-old comedian went viral last month when he appeared to put £10,000 in a shredder in protest against football star David Beckham’s £10 million World Cup deal with Qatar – where it is illegal to be gay – before explaining it was a trick and admitted that the rapid circulation of the stunt was “very helpful” because it brought attention to the story.
He said: “I’ve been asking people about it these last few weeks because I know that I would never do it. It’s amazing how I managed to convince people and the media and all of that. ITV news ran it on a lot of their bulletins, which was very helpful because it brought the story to a wider audience so I’m very grateful to ITV news for that.
The ‘QI’ star – who instead donated the money to LGBTQ+ charities – later shredded a historic edition of the gay men’s magazine Attitude with David on the cover and lamented that the Premier League star was once a “great ally” for the community and he would “love to speak to him” about his actions.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he added: “David was a brilliant ally to the LGBT community, he did a cover for Attitude – which is the one I shredded – and this came during Section 28, which was a law that meant it was illegal t tell children about gay people. That was the law until I was 15, so for him to do that was really bold and really helpful and I think that helped stop Section 28.
“So for him to now take an extortionate amount of money from a place where it is illegal to be gay – I would be jailed if I was there – it is a real betrayal of being gay and a betrayal of what he had done.
“Beckham was sort of emblematic of it and I thought I might be able to convince him to change his mind. But I’ve not heard anything from him and I would still love to speak to him.”

I won’t beat myself up about my baby weight, says Charlotte Crosby

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlotte Crosby won’t “beat herself up” about her baby weight.
The 32-year-old TV star gave birth to her daughter Alba last month, and Charlotte has insisted that she won’t put herself under too much pressure to regain her pre-pregnancy figure.
In a candid Instagram post, Charlotte explained: “I guess I have felt quite guilty of seeing people who have given birth to babies and look completely normal again. Who have given birth and bounced back within two weeks. Stupidly I thought I would be one be one of those people.
“I’m not beating myself up about it. I just don’t want to slip into ways in which I don’t get back to my exercise routine at all.
“For me exercise makes us feel really good in myself. It makes us feel more energised mentally more better. I feel like I can conquer the world when I have a weekly exercise routine. I wake up with more energy, the endorphins I have set me up for the day.
“Also when I’m exercising I feel like I’m a better person, my mood is obviously great, I’m brimming with ideas. Work wise I’m on top form.”
Charlotte also confessed to finding herself in a “baby bubble”.
The TV star – who gave birth to Alba seven weeks ago – shared: “I slipped into sitting around the house and just slobbing about the house a bit, being in my baby bubble, which is all good and well and I’ve enjoyed but I just felt a bit redundant.
“I don’t mean that being in a baby bubble is being a slob, that is the very opposite of what I mean. In my baby bubble I was ordering takeaway after takeaway after takeaway. I felt lethargic and awful.”

Darren Aronofsky considers The Whale to be poignant in the wake of the pandemic

OHMYGOSSIP — Darren Aronofsky believes that ‘The Whale’ is timely in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 53-year-old director has helmed the new psychological drama that features Brendan Fraser as Charlie – a reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity as he attempts to reconnect with his teenage daughter – and thinks the theme is poignant given the isolation people have experienced during the global health crisis.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, Darren said: “I think we’ve all been in Charlie’s position in the last few years. We’ve lost so much human connection, and this film is about people who are isolated but trying to connect.”
Darren had been attempting to make ‘The Whale’ for a decade but only got around to the production as a result of the pandemic.
The ‘Requiem for a Dream’ filmmaker said: “After ‘Mother!’, there were many opportunities but the world had shifted. I didn’t feel it was appropriate to make a big movie. I thought it was dangerous. People were still dying. Five actors in a room was a landscape that seemed controllable.”
Brendan has been tipped for an Oscar for his performance in the flick and Darren explained how the actor’s “inner light” was a big factor behind the decision to cast the star – who had stepped away from the spotlight after claiming that he had been sexually assaulted by the then-president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Philip Berk in 2003.
Aronofsky explained: “It was clear there was this inner light in him and it hadn’t been harnessed in a long time.
“When I met him, he was a gentleman. It was also clear he wanted to work. I knew it was going to be very difficult emotionally and technically, and I needed an actor who was 100 per cent game to do that. Brendan was.”

Michael Sheen was ‘fascinated’ by Wagatha Christie trial

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Sheen found the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial “fascinating”.
The 53-year-old actor plays Coleen Rooney’s barrister, David Sherborne, in Channel 4’s ‘Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama’, and Michael has admitted to being captivated by the libel case between Coleen, Wayne Rooney’s wife, and Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Jamie Vardy.
Asked what appealed to him about the project, Michael explained: “We only say what was said in court – that was really compelling. As an event, it seemed to say so much about us as a culture. Rather than just being about those people, it puts all of us on trial.
“Essentially there are two working-class young women being shouted at by posh men and everyone really enjoyed it: entertainment meets class war. Football and tabloids … I found it fascinating.”
Earlier this year, Rebekah was ordered to pay £1.5 million towards Coleen’s legal costs after their libel trial.
The TV star was told by the high court that she had to cover 90 percent of Coleen’s legal fees following their high-profile court case, which was dubbed the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial.
Meanwhile, Michael is also preparing for his first directorial role in 2023.
The acclaimed actor explained that the project was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Discussing his future plans, Michael told Metro.co.uk: “I’ve got ‘Best Interests’ with Sharon Horgan for the BBC coming up in the spring and the second series of ‘Good Omens’ next summer.
“I’m directing a series for the BBC – the first time I’ve directed anything to do with the camera. I’ve been developing it for a long time – we were ready to do it earlier, but the pandemic shut things down.”

Jackie Chan is working on a fourth Rush Hour film

OHMYGOSSIP — Jackie Chan has confirmed that a fourth ‘Rush Hour’ movie is in the works.
The 68-year-old star featured alongside comedian Chris Tucker in the action-comedy trilogy between 1998 and 2007 and revealed that talks have been held about a fourth installment.
Speaking at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia on Thursday (08.12.22), Jackie said: “We’re talking about part 4 right now.”
The martial arts icon confirmed that he was going to meet the film’s director to discuss the script although he did not identify who the filmmaker was. Brett Ratner directed all three previous movies but faced allegations of sexual assault in 2017 that caused Warner Bros. to sever all ties with him.
The ‘Rush Hour’ franchise follows a Hong Kong detective inspector who forms an unlikely friendship with a loudmouth LAPD officer to solve a series of international crimes.
Jackie had feared that the original flick was going to bomb at the box office and had planned to quit Hollywood if the film flopped due to a lack of interesting roles available to him.
The ‘Shanghai Noon’ star recalled: “I tried so many times to go to Hollywood, but after that, I said no more Hollywood because my English is not good, they’re not my culture, they don’t like this kind of action.
“My manager said look, there’s a script, and it’s called ‘Rush Hour’. I said ‘No, Hong Kong police? I’m not going to do it’. He said Jackie, ‘Why don’t you try last time?’ I said, ‘Okay, this is the last time.'”
Jackie is famous for his action films but told the festival crowd that he plans on making “more love stories” in the future. He is also preparing a project that he described as a “drama film for women”.
The star said: “I hope very soon it can release here. It’s a drama film. And it’s made for women. I hope one day you can see it.”

Dame Emma Thompson recalls gruelling Miss Trunchbull transformation

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Emma Thompson says it took over three hours every day for her to transform into Miss Trunchbull in ‘Matilda the Musical’.
The 63-year-old actress plays the cruel headmistress in the movie adaptation of the stage musical based on Roald Dahl’s novel ‘Matilda’ and explained the gruelling process she had to go through to get the character’s look as the costume team applied plenty of padding and facial prosthetics.
Emma told Variety: “‘Cruella’ was a long time, actually, but this was the longest.
“There’s an actual body suit, which is to give her the heft and the muscle. And then a massive weight underwear and pretend chest and all of that. It was a lot to walk around in.”
The ‘Nanny McPhee’ actress recalled how she irritated director Matthew Warchus as she kept hugging the children on set during filming, going against the traits of the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull.
Emma recalled: “Matthew got very annoyed with me for doing that. He said, ‘The children are supposed to be frightened of you and hate you. Stop hugging them.'”
Alisha Weir stars in the title role and revealed that she was initially frightened of Thompson when she first saw her in character.
The 13-year-old actress said: “I had first seen her without all the makeup, and then when I did see her in the makeup, it was a bit scary.
“But I knew that when she (opened her arms), I could come in and give her a hug. I knew that under all the makeup, there was Emma.”

Jamie Dornan ‘interested’ in superhero role

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Dornan is “interested” in playing a superhero.
The 40-year-old actor has seen his friends from the early days of his career, including Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, and Charlie Cox – who have played Batman, Spider-Man and Daredevil respectively – all star in comic book movies, and he’d love to join them in the genre.
He said: “I’d definitely be interested though you don’t hear a lot of good things about the comfort of those suits.
“Its weird how all the American superheroes are British. Back then we were all young actors from the other side of the pond, trying to make it in LA.
“We were always going up for the same jobs and none of us getting them.
“For a while it looked like it wasn’t going to work out but we all came out of it OK. So far…”
Jamie dismissed speculation he regrets making the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movies because there’s been no damaging effect on his career.
He said: “I wouldn’t have much reason to regret those films.
“If I was talking to you now from a bedsit having not worked in seven years, it would be a different story. But I’m not.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Tourist’ star is open to starring in a musical if that’s where his career path takes him.
He told Radio Times magazine: “I did four jobs in a row that I sang in – that’s plenty, although I do king of enjoy it.
“I was actually meant to do a musical a couple of years ago but schedule-wise we couldn’t make it happen.
“I love the variety of this job and so far I’ve been able to enter a lot of different worlds – so if that means ending up in a musical, then so be it.”

Dame Barbara Windsor was reluctant to take EastEnders role

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Barbara Windsor feared that she was the wrong person to play Peggy Mitchell.
The late ‘Carry On’ actress portrayed the ‘EastEnders’ landlady – who is considered to be one of the BBC soap’s most iconic characters – between 1994 and 2016 but her widower Scott Mitchell has revealed that she was reluctant to work on the small screen at first.
Scott told the ‘What If? podcast: “We didn’t know how it was going to go. She was very nervous about ‘EastEnders’.
“She didn’t think she was right for TV. She said, ‘Oh, I’m too big Scott, I’m all hands, jazz hands, and everything.’
“She didn’t think she’d knuckle down to that style of acting. It’s ridiculous. She’d done it all.”
Scott, 59, believes that the gap between Barbara’s appearances in ‘Carry On’ and ‘EastEnders’ meant that the actress – who died aged 83 in 2020 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease – lost confidence in herself.
He said: “But when people go through that phase when let’s say, between the ‘Carry On’ phase and ‘EastEnders’, there may be a dip in your career, I think it’s very natural for artists to lose confidence as well, and I think Barbara lost her confidence.
“So she really worked. I remember in the early days of ‘EastEnders’ she’d come back and say, ‘Oh Scott, I feel like the novice there.’
“But she’d say, ‘I’m going to work hard and I’m going to make sure I get it.’ And that’s what she did.”
Ross Kemp played Peggy’s son Grant Mitchell in the soap and says that he still feels Barbara’s presence.
The 58-year-old star said: “There is always a bit of Barbara hanging around. I have got a picture of Barbara at home in my house, which I will always keep.
“It’s very dear to me. She gave it to me when I first met her. I will always keep it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Hamza Yassin is comfortable with showing his emotions on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The wildlife cameraman is the favourite to win the Giltterball Trophy on the hit BBC show and has no qualms about showing his vulnerable side on TV.
Hamza told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It’s important for people to see men being vulnerable on TV.
“The person you see on the telly is the person I am in everyday life. I’m just a bit more emotional than others. And I don’t worry about holding back. I’m not emotional because I’m upset though, I’m emotional because I’m proud.”
Hamza, who has worked on ‘Countryfile’ and the children’s channel CBeebies, revealed that the fame from ‘Strictly’ has left him taken aback.
The 32-year-old star said: “It’s absolutely been a shock to the system. It’s mind-boggling, and I’m not yet used to it!
“It was only nature lovers and children under six who knew me before. Now I walk outside and people are like, ‘Hi, Hamza!’ and I’m thinking, ‘Have I seen that person before?'”
Hamza and his professional partner Jowita Przystal are preparing for the semi-final on Sunday (11.12.22) and the dancer is hoping to win the show in her first year with a celebrity partner but is aware that the competition is fierce as the series nears its conclusion.

“If Hamza could lift that Glitterball with me, that would just be the best gift. But first we have to concentrate on the semi-final.”

Selma Blair doesn’t feel bitter over lack of acting work

OHMYGOSSIP — Selma Blair doesn’t feel any bitterness about her lack of acting offers.
The 50-year-old actress was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) – which can lead to physical and mental problems – back in 2018, and although she thinks that her condition has damaged her career, Selma isn’t bitter about the situation.
The actress – whose film credits include ‘Legally Blonde’, ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Cruel Intentions’ – explained: “I don’t know how much I’ve said ‘Oh my God, I’m willing to be on a set all day.'”
Despite her health issues, Selma is keen to return to making big-budget movies.
The Hollywood star told the BBC: “I hope that my own knowledge of what I can handle can be a strength for me, because the people you work with do want to know what you can handle.”
Selma first revealed news of her diagnosis via a social media post in 2018.
The actress also discussed some of the day-to-day challenges that she faces with MS, including having a “foggy” memory.
Selma – who has an 11-year-old son called Arthur – said in a lengthy post on Instagram: “I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it . And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best. Since my diagnosis at ten thirty pm on The night of August 16, I have had love and support from my friends (sic)”

Cate Blanchett recalls ‘brutal’ treatment from a director

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett was treated “brutally” by a director earlier in her career.
The 53-year-old actress stars in the new movie ‘Tar’ as composer Lydia Tar and recalled how she could relate to a scene where her character ridicules a student, although she claims that the harsh words ultimately proved beneficial for her.
Cate told The Times newspaper: “Oh, early on in my career I would sometimes be treated brutally by a director in the rehearsal room.
“Yet I ended up making a massive breakthrough because of it. To be frank, I wouldn’t be here now if that sort of thing hadn’t happened. It made me think, ‘I’m bigger than this, I’m stronger than this,’ and I kept going – but perhaps I was able to do that because of the colour of my skin, or where I was in my career. The important thing is to be aware and respectful of these things when nurturing young talent.”
Cate has been tipped for an Oscar for her performance in the movie which tells the story of how Tar’s career falls apart as allegations mount about her bullying behaviour and she likes that the flick is “hard to pin down”.
The ‘Nightmare Alley’ actress said: “It’s not really a film about conducting. It’s not even a film about the classical music world. In fact it’s very hard to pin the movie down, which is its strength. It’s a little bit like a Rorschach test: different people will read very different things into it. I really want people to see it and tell me what they think.”
Cate is unsure if she wants to do more musical projects after bringing a conductor to life on screen.
She said: “Oh I don’t know.
“I have so many friends who are renaissance people. They can paint, sing, dance, act. I can only do one thing! I’ve been ploughing that furrow like crazy because it’s the only furrow I’ve got.”
