Guillermo del Toro: Pinocchio isn’t a kids film

OHMYGOSSIP — Guillermo del Toro doesn’t want ‘Pinocchio’ to be considered as a children’s film.
The 58-year-old director has helmed the stop-motion take on the classic tale but claimed that parents should watch the film with their children as it is darker than the 1940 Disney version.
Guillermo told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six site: “People ask us if it for kids (and) we say, ‘It’s not made for kids but kids can watch it if their parents talk to them.’
“It’s not a babysitter movie, it’s a movie that will have kids ask questions.”
The movie is set in Italy when the country was ruled by Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini and Guillermo said that the time period was deliberately chosen so he could explore the theme of “obedience”.
The ‘Mimic’ director said: “Obedience to me is where you are told to follow something whether, on a religious level or social level, that you don’t understand, that is a big mistake. Disobedience with consciousness is always the beginning of thought, of soul and self.
“When I was a practicing Catholic, not lapsed as I am now, I used to think about where the human soul lies – it lies in the freedom of choice. The choice is to be human.”
Guillermo previously explained how the Netflix movie – which features the voices of Ewan McGregor and Christoph Waltz – deals with issues such as love and death.
The Mexican filmmaker said: “I thought it was important to deal with how briefly we have each other and how life is made valuable by death, which are concepts that are very, very Mexican, but [ones] that, ultimately, I believe in.
“The film is thematically about different types of fatherhood — what it is to be a father, what it is to be a child. And there are different types of parental figures in the movie. Some are lethal, some are exploitative, some are permeable to love. And, finally, a very paternalistic concern is the fascist idea of the Fatherland and the father-figure style of leadership.”

Peter Kay angry that paedophile Jimmy Savile starred in video for (Is This The Way To) Amarillo

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Kay is angry with late paedophile presenter Jimmy Savile for destroying the legacy of his music video for ‘(Is This The Way To) Amarillo’.
The stand-up comic teamed up with singer Tony Christie in 2005 to release a version of the 1971 track – which had featured in Kay’s Channel 4 sitcom ‘Phoenix Nights’ in 2002 – to raise money for charity Comic Relief.
The video featured Kay and a host of other beloved British celebrities miming along to the lyrics and walking and dancing, these included ‘Coronation Street’ actor William Roache, his late ‘Corrie’ co-star Anne Kirkbride, late ‘Bullseye’ host Jim Bowen, Sir Cliff Richard, talk show host Sir Michael Parkinson, late comedy great Ronnie Corbett and more.
In one segment, Kay is seen dancing along with ‘Still Open All Hours’ actress Sally Lindsay and former ‘Top of the Pops’ and ‘Jim’ll Fix host’ Savile – who, after his death in 2011 aged 84, was exposed to have been a predatory paedophile who was responsible for assaulting hundreds of children.
Kay, 49, is fuming that a song and video that is so fondly remembered and raised so much money for charity will forever be associated with a paedophile.
Speaking on stage at a show on his ‘It’s Better Late Than Never’ comedy tour, he said: “Very popular at kids parties.
“Number one for seven weeks, biggest-selling song of that year and now thanks to Jimmy Savile it’s on YouTube with a paedophile warning.
“Thanks for that Jimmy… dirty s***house.
“I can’t believe that. He was in the video.”
Since 2012, a version of the video has been aired that does not feature Savile.

Amanda Holden to front new series about the history of sex

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden is to host a new show about the history of sex.
In a risqué career move, the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge will be exploring sexual taboos in her saucy new show for Sky History, that’s set to air next year.
Amanda will investigate the porn industry and dig deep into history as she unveils Cleopatra’s love of orgies and promiscuity in Roman society – suggesting that the Romans were more sexually liberated than the modern world.
The 51-year-old blonde beauty will also explore how Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe “redefined raunchiness” in the cinema, sex within religion and sex in the Regency era.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The documentary is packed with facts, information and educational moments but of course Amanda brings her own style to it.
“She got hands on for filming, including dressing up as some of the sex icons such as Marilyn and bringing to life key moments with re-enactments.
“We’re calling it ‘Horrible Histories’ but for grown-ups.
“This generation thinks it’s at the forefront of sexual exploration but we really know nothing compared to the Romans or even the Regency period.
“Amanda is really passionate about the project.”
Speaking at the 27th National Television Awards earlier in October, Amanda teased she was working on a taboo project that was “slightly controversial”.
She said: “I’ve just started filming a brand new series for Sky, which is going to be a lot of fun and it may be slightly controversial.”

Jacqueline Jossa was nervous about EastEnders return for Dot’s funeral

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacqueline Jossa was “quite scared” to return to ‘EastEnders’ for Dot Cotton’s funeral.
The 30-year-old actress quit the BBC One soap back in 2018 to focus on motherhood, but she will be reprising her role as Lauren Branning as she says her final goodbye to Dot.
June Brown, played the Walford launderette worker in two stints over 31 years, died in April 2022 aged 95, and now her iconic character is getting a farewell on-screen.
‘EastEnders’ will air a memorial special on Monday night (12.12.22) in memory of June and her alter ego.
Jossa has done so little acting in recent years she was worried that when she stepped back on set she would not remember what she was supposed to do in front of the cameras.
She told the Daily Star’s Hot TV column: “I was quite scared. I was like, ‘I can’t remember how to act, I don’t know what I’m doing.’
“I was really nervous. I just felt a bit rusty. I didn’t know whether people were going to see me as Lauren again.
“But then I walked in and saw people like Scott Maslen and Natalie Cassidy and people behind the cameras and straight away I was at home. It was the same people all friendly faces. It was genuinely like being back at home.”
A number of Walford’s classic characters will be making a comeback to Albert Square to pay their respects.
Stars such as Lord Michael Cashman (Colin Russell), Gary Hailes (Barry Clark), Linda Davidson (Mary ‘the punk’ Smith) and more are returning for Dot’s farewell.
Lauren, who shot to fame playing Dot’s step-granddaughter in 2010, was emotional over June’s death and said it was like watching her real grandma die.
She added: “June is part of the furniture. She is like family, she is your nan. When you watch this episode, it’s like you are watching your grandma die. The whole Britain will feel that when they watch it.”

Austin Butler went three years without seeing his family while making Elvis

OHMYGOSSIP — Austin Butler didn’t see his family for three years while working on ‘Elvis’.
The 31-year-old actor played the King of Rock and Roll in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic and said he was so committed to the part that he went years without seeing his loved ones with filming taking place in Australia.
In conversation with Janelle Monae for Variety’s ‘Actors on Actors’ series, Austin recalled: “During ‘Elvis’, I didn’t see my family for about three years. I was prepping with Baz, and then I went to Australia.
“I had months where I wouldn’t talk to anybody. And when I did, the only thing I was ever thinking about was Elvis. I was speaking in his voice the whole time.”
Austin explained how the coronavirus pandemic altered the production schedule and meant that he and Luhrmann had to find “subtle ways” to represent the music icon ageing.
He said: “Initially, Baz said we could film it in sequence.’Well, OK, I can take a break and gain the weight.’ But with Covid, the whole schedule got turned upside down.
“We ended up working a lot with finding subtle ways that you can age. Elvis ended up experiencing a lot of pain in his knees, in his back, and I felt that completely.”
Butler explained how he found it daunting to work with Baz – who has directed movies such as ‘Moulin Rouge!’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ – and likened the filmmaker to a “jazz musician”.
The ‘Shannara Chronicles’ star said: “He’s the closest thing to a jazz musician that I’ve seen in a director. He does so much homework. And then you show up and he might say, ‘I rewrote this scene last night’ – that you’ve been working on for a year and a half. It’s terrifying in the beginning.”

Charlize Theron understands lack of contact over Furiosa

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlize Theron isn’t annoyed that Anya Taylor-Joy hasn’t spoken to her about ‘Furiosa’.
The 47-year-old actress played Imperator Furiosa in the film ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ but the role will be filled by ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ actress in George Miller’s prequel movie and Theron isn’t concerned that neither Taylor-Joy nor the director have been in contact.
Asked if Anya or George had spoken to her about the part, the Oscar-winning star said: “No, but I get that.
“It’s always tricky. Who wants to pick up the phone and say, like, ‘Hey, we’re going to do this without you.’ No one wants to do that. So, I totally get that. And I love George. I know I’ll talk to him again. I think it was just too hard.”
‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was acclaimed by the critics but Charlize recalled how making the movie was brutal.
The ‘Hancock’ actress told The Hollywood Reporter: “Listen, I know I said, ‘Oh, as an actor, you want to be challenged,’ but you don’t want it to be that bad.
“It was a long, long shoot. I have never done anything that needed that kind of endurance, and I don’t think I ever will (again).”
Charlize continued: “I don’t know what production on the prequel was like, but I want to believe it was less.
“And I hate saying this because I don’t ever want to encourage young actors or storytellers to believe that they need trauma or sacrifice because I really, really don’t believe you do, but there’s a little bit about the circumstances around that movie that I think gave it the magic.
“It doesn’t mean it has to always be that, but I do think somehow the lightning in a bottle that you’re always trying to catch happened on that movie. But, man, it was f****** tough.”

Craig David blasts Leigh Francis for his ‘racist’ comedy on Bo’ Selecta!

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig David has branded Leigh Francis’ caricatures of him and other black celebrities on ‘Bo’ Selecta’ as “racist”.
The ‘7 Days’ singer has for many years claimed that Leigh’s Channel 4 sketch series – which aired between 2002 and 2009 – and his surreal depiction of him as a musician who had a pet falcon named Kes, a reference to the 1969 British drama film of the same name, was responsible for derailing his pop career because people stopped taking him seriously.
Craig has now spoken out against the show and its creator once again saying his use of blackface to mock real people like him, Spice Girls star Mel B and chat show host Trisha Goddard was blatant “racism”.
Appearing on the ‘How To Fail’ podcast, he said: “It was just cheap shots all the time. And there were many people being ridiculed.
“I spoke about Trisha Goddard and Mel B. It wasn’t just the fact there is three black people on that show and they were being ridiculed, it was racism however you look at that. You put a rubber mask on and you run it like that, you are being racist.”
Craig, 41, is critical of all the sketches on the show, because Leigh’s entire premise was to mock real people with “cheap shots”, citing his taunting of former England captain David Beckham over the “sound of his voice” as another example.
The ‘Fill Me In’ hitmaker added: “David Beckham… let’s not forget, there was a time he was being ridiculed about the sound of his voice and he was trying to find his voice and talk, and all my man did was literally just, ‘I’m going to trigger you and go to what I know will get you.’
“These weren’t hypothetical characters, they were real people with lives and feelings, and it was cheap shots, that was the premise of the show.”
Leigh – who now appears on TV as his comedy alter ego Keith Lemon – made a sincere and emotional apology to Craig, Mel B and Trisha back in June 2020 for the way he caricatured black celebrities and that same year he made an agreement with Channel 4 to take the show down from their All 4 streaming platform after deeming those sketches inappropriate for a modern audience.
However, the 49-year-old comic did recently speak out against Craig’s constant complaints, insisting he thought they had moved on after calling a truce at mutual friend Fearne Cotton’s wedding back in 2014 and that if the singer stopped talking about it then people would forget about the caricature.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column, he said: “It’s ages ago, isn’t it? It is, 20 years ago. I wish he wasn’t upset. I bumped into him at Fearne’s wedding and we hugged it out and everything was all nice.”

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas offered counselling by BBC after relentless trolling

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge Shirley Ballas has been offered counselling to help her cope with the merciless trolling she is subjected to.
The 62-year-old ballroom expert has been the target of relentless online abuse which has shattered her confidence and left her mental health in tatters.
Since joining the panel in 2017, the abuse has gotten so “out of control” she’s been offered counselling by the BBC to help her cope.
Ballas is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “The trolling is out of control and the show has offered me help. I can have counselling if I want.
“I have a good support system around me at the BBC. They take care of their people.”
Shirley had to consult a professional over her low moods and anxiety brought on by incessant hated after being vilified online.
She added: “They say I have rather large ears and a glass eye and bingo wings and that I’m too heavy and too old. I can’t keep up.
“I try my best not to respond but the other day they criticised my son.”
Shirley previously spoke to OK! magazine about the daily abuse she encounters and revealed it took it’s emotional toll to a point she declined starring in panto.
She said: “I’ve enjoyed the series but I’m not going to stand here and lie to you – it took its emotional toll.
“That’s why I’m not going to do panto. I’ll take some time off as soon as the show’s finished until about 4 January and collect myself and see what I want to do with myself next year. It’s been quite difficult this year.”

Chris Kamara: My apraxia has left me weak

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Kamara’s apraxia has left him “weak” and struggling to carry out simple tasks.
The former football player was left devastated after being diagnosed with apraxia of speech last year.
Once a charismatic Sky Sports News personality, Kammy now struggles to talk due to the motor speech disorder that impedes the ability to speak and has resigned from his post as a result.
The brain condition has also affected his physical abilities and sometimes his body is so weak that he struggles to carryout everyday tasks like shopping.
Speaking in new ITV documentary ‘Chris Kamara: Lost For Words’, he revealed: “The part of my brain that’s packed in affects my muscles. I’m so weak now. Coordination is not very good. Balance is not very good.
“Everybody talks about the speech side of it, but there’s also other factors to go with it. I can’t carry shopping.”
Despite his debilitating disorder, a resilient Kammy perseveres with weekly coordination exercises in hopes of improving his condition.
He added: “These are a way for me to get stronger.”
The 64-year-old TV personality – who played for Portsmouth, Leeds and Stoke during his on-field career – admits that some days he has no issues with being able to communicate, but he doesn’t get any warning of when he will have a bad day when his words won’t come out.
He shared: “Sometimes I think, it’s fine today, no problem. Then I go downstairs and talk to Anne and the message from the brain to the mouth won’t come out right. So it would be another day of anguish, thinking what should I do? Should I go to work today, or should I not?”
Chris’ wife of 40 years, Anne – who he wed in 1982 and has two sons. Ben, 35, and Jack, 34 – has seen her husband struggle with the new health challenges in his life.
She said: “Chris used to do everything at 100 miles an hour, so he is a different person. He just has to get used to the new person that he is.”
Chris wants to continue to share his story and do everything he can to improve his condition because he knows his celebrity status can shed light on all forms of speech impediments.
He said: “I’m in a lot better place now than I was. I didn’t accept what was going on in my body. It’s a long process. It’s going the right way.
“I will continue now because I know while I’m out there and what I’m doing will be helping someone with a speech condition think, ‘If he can do it, I can do it.'”

Will Mellor is eleventh celebrity to depart ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2022’

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor is the eleventh celebrity to depart ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2022’.
He was voted off on Monday night’s (12.12.22) semi-final results episode of the BBC One show, which saw
the remaining couples take to the ballroom floor in the hope of impressing judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas, as well as the voting public.
Actor Will’s exit came after he faced singer Fleur East in the dance off, in which both couples again performed their favourite routine of the night.
Fleur and her dance partner Vito Coppola performed their Charleston to ‘Tu Vuo’ Fa L’Americano’ by Fiorello, while Will and his professional partner Nancy Xu danced their Couples’ Choice to a 1990s Manchester inspired medley.
Judge Craig chose to save Fleur and Vito, saying: “This has been really difficult tonight for me and I’ve done a lot of these darling! I found it so hard because both couples are extraordinary and I want to see both couples in the final but that can’t be so. For me, tonight the most impressive couple that I would like to save and send through to the final are Fleur and Vito.”
His fellow panellist Motsi made the same choice, adding: “This season has been challenging, it has been very close, every single show, and tonight it has not been any different. It is proof of your quality, it is proof of your championship, you can be proud of yourself, I have decided because of micro details that I am going to save Fleur and Vito.”
Anton opted to save Will and Nancy, saying: “Well, based on this dance in the dance off and this dance only, I think it is really important to say that, because these couples both danced terrifically and I marked them the same on Sunday night. And now I am looking for real detail, how do I separate them? I’m really searching for something, its such fine detail. Due to an error in a dismount from a lift, I am going to have to save Will and Nancy.”
With two votes to Fleur and Vito, and one to Will and Nancy it left head judge Shirley with the casting vote.
Announcing she was saving Fleur and Vito, she said: “First of all, the British public has spoken and with respect I take that on board. My fellow judges have decided that they don’t agree, so I have made lots of notes here, both couples were outstanding and not only today but through the series. I have loved both of them, this is by far, even for me Craig, the most difficult decision I feel I have had to make. Based on micro details, I have decided to save Fleur and Vito.”
When host Tess Daly asked Will if he had any final words, he said: “I have to thank you all for giving me this chance to put a smile on my mums face, she deserves it. I’ll take whatever I have learnt from this show forward in whatever I do because it shows you can achieve more than you think.
“I didn’t think I’d be able to get anywhere near this and I am so proud of what we have achieved but also everybody who has voted for me, who has supported me, the messages I’ve had from my local community and children. Thank you all so much, we really, really appreciated every bit.”
When asked if she had any words for her partner, Nancy said: “I want to thank everyone who works on the show, it’s an incredible show, I’ve had such an amazing journey. The support from the whole team is just phenomenal. I’m proud of the partnership, we’ve had such an amazing journey together. I really wish I could make more memories with you and your family.”
Will added: “Anyone watching this show, the people that work on this show, the crew, the make up team, the wardrobe team, the judges, the contestants, this is an unbelievable journey. If you get the chance to get on this floor then do it, it’s unbelievable this place.”
Lewis Capaldi also performed his latest single ‘Pointless’ on Monday’s show, which also featured a routine from its professional dancers, Giovanni Pernice and Katya Jones.
The remaining four couples will take to the dancefloor next week for the final time for this year as they bid to lift the Glitterball Trophy.
Will and Nancy also joined presenter Rylan Clark for their first exclusive televised interview live on ‘Strictly It Takes Two’ from 9pm tonight (12.12.22) on BBC Two.
‘Strictly Come Dancing: The Final’ will air live on Saturday 17 December at 7.15pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Lucy Fallon expecting baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Fallon is expecting a baby boy.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress admitted she and her footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson, 25, “weren’t bothered either way” about whether they were having a son or a daughter.
She said: “We found out the gender at 16 weeks. Obviously we weren’t bothered either way, but Ryan was so convinced we were having a girl.”
Lucy recently had a baby shower at the Shankly Hotel in Liverpool, and she loved partying well into the night at the bash.
She added to OK! magazine: “I was the first one up and I was there until the end.
“I went upstairs at 10.30pm to put PJs on, but came back for more dancing until 1.30am.”
The 27-year-old star – who suffered a miscarriage in March – said: “I was a bit shocked because of what we went through and I didn’t think it would happen that soon.
“But we’re made up and it felt like the next stage for us. It felt like it was meant to be.”
Lucy – who is due to give birth in February – thinks her heart-breaking loss has actually strengthened her relationship with Ryan.
She said: “That changed things and it made us realise that was definitely what we wanted.
“Situations like that can really test your relationship and when you go through something that’s really horrible you see how the other person deals with stuff and how they support you and how you support them. It just made us closer and stronger.
“Last time we assumed everything would be fine so we told Ryan’s parents and my parents, so this time we made sure everything was OK before we told anyone else, although I did tell my mum straight away.
“We didn’t want to get excited too quickly and get our hopes up. After we had our 12-week scan was when we started to actually talk about it and tell people and be excited about it.
“This time we’ve experienced all the nice things we couldn’t do last time. But I still feel worried and I don’t think you stop worrying.
“People say you get past 12 weeks and you feel better, but I think it’s something I’m always going to worry about.”

Adam Woodyatt’s shock EastEnders return

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Woodyatt made a shock return to ‘EastEnders’ on Monday night (12.12.22).
The 54-year-old star’s character Ian Beale hadn’t been seen since he departed Albert Square in January 2021, but in a surprise scene during Dot Branning’s funeral episode – following the passing of actress June Brown this year aged 95 – Ian appeared on the outskirts of the churchyard, ensuring his former neighbours didn’t see him.
He got teary and said: “Goodbye, Dot,” as he looked on, before ringing someone he called “love” and said he was heading “home”.
‘EastEnders’ boss Chris Clenshaw admitted Adam agreed to the brief return because he wanted to “be there” for his late co-star June.
He said: “I called Adam, told him our plans, and I said, ‘Ian has to be there,’ and he agreed. It was kind of as simple as that. Ian would not miss it.
“Obviously, he didn’t make it into the church, but he said his own private goodbye to Dot.
“So, yeah, that’s how it came about. It was just that Adam wanted to be there for June and he knew that Ian should be there for Dot.”
Following the cameo, Adam is now expected to make a longer return to Walford.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Ian’s comeback storyline is in the works.
“Fans of the show don’t know who Ian was talking to yet but it won’t be long until all is revealed.
“While the plotline is top secret, it’s a given that viewers will not be disappointed by what they see when Ian does return.”
Adam is currently starring as Alfred Doolittle in a stage production of ‘My Fair Lady’.
Since departing Albert Square, he has gone on to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ and also star in theatre production ‘Looking Good Dead’.

Shawn Levy won’t rush Free Guy 2 but confirms film is ‘in development’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Levy isn’t rushing to make ‘Free Guy 2’ but the sequel is “still in development”.
The 54-year-old director – who was the helm of the 2021 comedy, which starred Ryan Reynolds as a bank teller who discovered he is a non-playable character in a massively multiplayer online video game – admitted while all parties are intrigued by the idea, it’s got to be done right.
He told Collider: “It’s still in development. I don’t know if it’s in the cards, but it is very much still in development.
“It’s something that Disney and Fox want badly. I really try to not make sequels that don’t deserve to be.
“And it’s why I didn’t move forward with the ‘Real Steel’ sequel because I didn’t feel we had a second movie that could match or top the first.”
Like his 2011 sci-fi drama, Levy – who is working on ‘Deadpool 3’ and will direct episodes for the fifth and final season of ‘Stranger Things’ – doesn’t want to do a follow-up for the sake of it.
He added: “I’m holding ‘Free Guy’ to that same standard. We are still hearing ideas, developing ideas, expounding on ideas.
“But I would say that in the time that’s passed since ‘Free Guy’ came out, the love for that movie has become more and more clear to Ryan and I, anecdotally, on sidewalks, in the press.
“So we’re not going to mess with a good thing unless we can make a great thing.”
He acknowledged that making a truly brilliant follow-up is a difficult task, with certain movies held as the gold standard for good reason.
He explained: “Sequels are really hard to make great. It’s why we all look to a [‘Terminator 2’] or an ‘Empire Strikes Back’ as high watermarks and frankly as unicorns. It’s really, really hard.
“And again, I made three ‘Night at the Museums.’ One reason that I cast each one of them at such a stratospheric level, with comedic stars and comedic geniuses, is I wanted to make sure that they could be unique.
“But it’s a really tough balance. And we’re obviously very much exploring this with ‘Deadpool,’ is how do you honor what got you to that moment?
“How do you honor what people love without regurgitating what people love? It’s the right balance, and it’s challenging as hell.”

Julie Andrews plays down Princess Diary 3 talks and claims it’s ‘too late’ for sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Julie Andrews thinks it’s “too late” for her to star in ‘The Princess Diaries 3’.
The legendary actress – who played Queen Clarisse Renaldi of Genovia in the 2001 classic Disney comedy and its 2014 follow-up ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’, which both starred Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis – has suggested the new movie may not be a sequel after all.
Addressing her potential involvement, she told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible.
“It was talked about very shortly after two came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older.
“And I am not sure where it would float or run. In terms of us doing it, I doubt that now.”
Back in June, the 87-year-old star admitted while there have been discussions about a sequel in the past, nothing ever happened – while she suggested the death of original director Garry Marshall in 2016 would also make things difficult.
She added: “I think it would be too late to do it now. There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don’t think it ever came to pass.
“And Garry then did leave us. [For] especially me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it. It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would probably be possible.”
When it comes to the new film, Debra Martin Chase will be back as producer after working on the first two films, while ‘The Other Women’ and ‘Godmothered’ screenwriter Melissa Stack is serving as executive producer.
Aadrita Mukerji – known for her work on ‘Reacher’ and ‘Supergirl’ – is attached as screenwriter, and Hathaway previously suggested she would be on board to return for a sequel.
Back in October, she said: “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work.
“We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”

Matt Hancock tipped to land own TV show on BBC

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Hancock has been tipped to land his own TV show.
ITV Studios’ Managing Director Kevin Lygo thinks the former Health Secretary – who recently announced he is standing down as an MP, following a stint on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ – could end up on the BBC.
Asked about the possibility of Matt fronting a series, Kevin said: “He might. I think the BBC is the place for Matt Hancock.”
Kevin has told how most of this year’s ‘I’m A Celebrity’ campmates had been cast when the idea of MP Matt taking place was put forward, and he admitted there wasn’t “enormous soul searching” about whether he should take part or not.
He is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column as saying: “Most people were cast and ready to go when he was put forward.
“I think most of us thought, ‘That’s a fascinating idea. does he really want to go in?’
“So we decided after some debate – but not enormous soul searching – that, yes, he would be a great addition to the programme.”
Last week, Matt – who finished third on the ITV jungle-based series – said he is standing down as an MP because he wants to “engage with the public in new ways” outside Parliament.
The MP – who was suspended by the Conservative Party after it was revealed he had signed up for the programme – wrote in a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak: “It has been an honour to serve in Parliament and represent the people of West Suffolk.
“I will play my part in the debate about the future of our country and engage with the public in new ways.
“There was a time when I thought the only way to influence the public debate was in Parliament, but I’ve realised there’s far more to it than that.
“For my part, I want to do things differently. I have discovered a whole new world of possibilities which I am excited to explore – new ways for me to communicate with people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
“It has been an honour to serve in parliament and represent the people of West Suffolk. I will play my part in the debate about the future of our country and engage with the public in new ways.”
Matt – who has been the MP for West Suffolk since 2010, but was widely criticised for leaving his constituents to take part in ‘I’m A Celebrity’ – quit as Health Secretary after he came under fire when he was caught kissing his former aide, and now-girlfriend, Gina Coladangelo, during the COVID pandemic, breaking his own social distancing guidance in the process.

Sam Worthington thinks Avatar sequel is a ‘labour of love’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Worthington says that ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is a “labour of love”.
The 46-year-old actor reprises his role as Jake Sully in the long-awaited sequel to James Cameron’s sci-fi epic ‘Avatar’ and explained that the lengthy time spent developing the project makes it feel like more than a typical film.
Sam told Variety at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday (12.12.22): “We started work on it in, I think, 2015 was when I first saw things of it and 2017 was when we first started. It’s been a gradual continued process, like a big journey.
“It’s a labour of love rather than making a movie. That’s what it feels like.”
Zoe Saldana returns as Neytiri and expressed her admiration for Cameron, who is famous for creating action heroines in movies including ‘Aliens’ and ‘ The Terminator’, which starred Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton as Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor respectively.
The 44-year-old star said: “I got to work with my idol at a very early stage of my career. If it wasn’t for Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley, these iconic characters of the 80s, where would I be?”
Zoe explained that the theme of “family” is at the heart of the blockbuster and will strike a chord with audiences.
She said: “There are so many themes that will resonate with people, starting with the power of family… Family is not just the one you’re born into, but it’s also the one that you choose or chooses you.”
James was absent from the LA premiere after testing positive for COVID-19 but producer Jon Landau sung the praises of the crew who have worked to put the movie on the big screen.
He said: “I’m really proud of the crew. Jim and I might get accolades, but we’re standing on their shoulders. To see them recognised for their years of hard work makes me really proud.”
