Patty Jenkins: I didn’t walk away from Wonder Woman 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Patty Jenkins has insisted she did not “walk away” from the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise.
Last week, it was claimed ‘Wonder Woman 3′ is not expected to move forward at DC Studios, but the 51-year-old director has insisted she was “open to considering anything asked of me” in terms of making the third movie.
In part of a statement released on her Twitter account, she wrote: “When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread.
“This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.
“I do not want what has been a beautiful journey with WW to land on negative note. I have loved and been so honored to be the person who got to make these last two Wonder Woman films. She is an incredible character. Living in and around her values makes one a better person every day. I wish her and her legacy an amazing future ahead, with or without me.
“Walking side by side with Lynda Carter, an absolute legend and beacon of goodness and light, has been a thrill. I have learned so much from her and will cherish her as a friend and mentor, always. My crew has been like family and fought every day to give the world the best films they could. And Gal… Gal Gadot. Where do I even begin? Gal is the greatest gift I have received in this whole journey. A cherished friend, inspiration, and sister. There are no words I can use to convey how magical she is. She is the walking embodiment of Wonder Woman in real life and a better person than the world can imagine. Never once in the millions of moments I have spent with her did I see anything less. She is a gift to this world, and even more so, to me.
“Lastly, but most importantly, THANK YOU to the incredible WW fans, and for all of your love and support. Wonder Woman fans are often not the most visible in the media and online, but I want you to know that we have always seen and celebrated you and your importance. You were first and foremost in our minds every day we made the last two films. You are the best and most loving people and I look forward to always celebrating you.
Thank you ALL for this wonderful journey. Keep up the Wonder Woman spirit. Any day that you face struggles, try asking: What would Wonder Woman do? I hope her beacon of love, truth and justice is always there to lead the way for you, as she has done for me. (sic)”
It was reported James Gunn and Peter Safran – who were recently appointed as co-chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios – and Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy told Jenkins the
project currently doesn’t fit in with the latest DC plans, as things stand.
In response to Jenkins’ statement, Gunn insisted his and Safran’s interactions were “only pleasant and professional”.
He tweeted: “I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.”
What’s more, Jenkins – who directed the first two ‘Wonder Woman’ films, in which Gal Gadot played the titular superhero – also addressed the future of ‘Star Wars: Rogue Squadron’.
She began her statement: “Sigh… I’m not one to talk about private career matters, but I will not allow inaccuracies to continue. Here are the facts:
“I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay WW3 any further. When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to RS after WW3, which I was honored to do, so I agreed. They made a new deal with me. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead.”

Stephen Bear guilty of sharing sex tape online

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Bear has been found guilty of sharing a sex tape online.
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star, 32, had denied voyeurism and two counts of disclosing private, sexual photographs and films, after a video of him having sex with ex-‘Love Island’ star Georgia Harrison was published on adult subscription site OnlyFans.
But he was found guilty of all charges after more than eight and half hours of deliberation during the trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Bear and 27-year-old Georgia were captured on CCTV footage in his garden in Essex in August 2020.
‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Georgia said afterwards she had been through “absolute hell” in the past two years.
In a statement released via Essex Police, she said: “Bear’s behaviour was completely unacceptable and those who choose to commit such crimes should and will be prosecuted.
“I hope me taking a stand gives other men and women who have fallen victim to revenge porn the courage to seek justice and most importantly show them that they have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
“I have felt ashamed, hurt, violated, even broken at times but today I stand here feeling empowered, grateful and a huge sense of unity with all of those who have reached out to support me throughout this ordeal.”
Bear has been bailed until January 31st, when he will return to the court for sentencing.
Following the verdicts, he said: “In my opinion from the very beginning it was never a fair trial, what the press said against me.
“I was fighting a losing battle and it is what it is.”
Judge Christopher Morgan said: “Thank you for that observation.”

Danny Walters makes shock EastEnders return

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Walters made a shock return to ‘EastEnders’ on Tuesday night (13.12.22).
The 29-year-old star’s character appeared in Albert Square during the end of the episode, which mainly focused on the late Dot Branning’s (June Brown) wake, and the actor managed to keep it a secret from most of his family members, telling them he was off playing golf rather than filming scenes.
He said: “I’ve limited the number of people I’ve told. None of my friends know, none of my family know.
“I’ve told my mum, my dad, my partner and my brother, although I probably shouldn’t have told my brother!
“But it’s been very tough because I’ve been making a lot of excuses. My in-laws and family members and cousins want to know what I’m up to and I’m just, ‘Oh, I’m playing golf.’ I’ve just been playing golf every day!
“It’s been very hard to keep it a secret but I wanted to respect [‘EastEnders’ boss] Chris [Clenshaw] and the show here and what we’re doing here today is the whole surprise of Keanu coming back. I wanted to keep it a secret in my life as well as much as it is for the show.”
Keanu was last seen nearly three years ago in January 2020 before fleeing to Portugal after he had an affair with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), who was married to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) at the time.
But Danny admits viewers will see a “very different side” to the character this time around.
He added: “When I got the call from Chris, he told me about some of the storylines. Even as Chris was teasing some, I don’t think he’s told me everything yet, but his vision is incredible and I like what he’s done with it, and all the writers involved and the directors and everything. So when I heard what he wants Keanu to do, I couldn’t help but want to come back.
“I’m very privileged to be coming back in such an iconic episode. The way I’m playing him now, there’s a new type of character that you’ll see from Keanu – there’s a very different side to him.”

Shawn Levy teases ‘hardcore’ violence in Deadpool 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Levy has promised that there will be “hardcore” violence in ‘Deadpool 3′.
The 54-year-old director has been tasked with helming the film that integrates Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Merc with a Mouth’ into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and has promised that none of the carnage of the previous movies will be absent in the latest project.
Shawn told Collider: “We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping ‘Deadpool’ every day now.
“It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a ‘Deadpool’ movie.”
Levy confirmed that the film is likely to start shooting in May 2023 and explained that having Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine involved has added to his enjoyment of the flick.
The director, who has worked with Ryan on ‘Free Guy’ and ‘The Adam Project’, said: “I’m having so much fun, and I haven’t even hit the shooting floor yet.
“I have to say, developing a ‘Deadpool’ movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life because it’s not just that it’s rated R. It’s that it’s so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to the franchise.”
The film is slated for release in 2024 and Shawn confirmed that it would have more “visual effects” as a result of the MCU move but stressed that both he and Ryan plan to maintain the “gritty” aspects of the franchise.
He said: “The truth is the more digitally CG-heavy a movie is, the longer time you need in post. But obviously it’s the first ‘Deadpool’ movie in the MCU. There’s going to be no lack of visual effects.
“But it’s also a North Star priority for Ryan and I to keep ‘Deadpool’ raw, gritty, grounded in the ways that those movies have been and that all of us love.”

The 53-year-old actor is also set to star in the film ‘The Bikeriders’ opposite Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy.
It was recently confirmed that Anjelica would be reprising her role as The Director in ‘Ballerina’.
The 71-year-old star appeared as the head of the Ruska Roma crime organisation in ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ during a scene where a beleaguered John Wick came to her for help.
Among her skills is training young dancers to learn that art is suffering while also training young fighters to roll with the flips.
Lee said: “The idea of ‘Ballerina’ was formed around the scenes with Anjelica in ‘John Wick 3’.
“Anjelica Huston is an icon and is nothing less than Hollywood royalty. The world of Wick is always made richer by her commanding screen presence.”

Milly Zero: Dot funeral was a sign I should leave EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ star Milly Zero says filming Dot Branning’s funeral episode was “a sign” that she should leave the show.
The 23-year-old actress has played Dotty Cotton on the BBC One soap since 2019, but she decided the time was right to depart Albert Square when it was revealed the programme would pay tribute to Dot – who was played by the late June Brown – with special funeral and wake episodes, which aired this week.
She said: “My exit comes after Dot’s death and funeral.
“When I had the thought that I wanted to leave and explore other projects the fact that we were doing Dot’s funeral was a sign. I was like, OK, that’s the time for Dotty to go, it makes complete sense.”
However, Milly’s exit may not be the last ‘EastEnders’ fans see of her.
While the star admits her departure will be “explosive”, Milly admitted her character “could come back”.
She added to The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Dotty’s exit is explosive. She’s not going to leave with a smile on her face – she’s not that kind of girl.
“Dotty could come back. Hopefully it’s not the end of Dotty but we’ll see.”
Last year, Milly admitted she was in awe of June, who died in April aged 95.
She said at the time: “I still can’t believe that I got to work with the actual Dot Cotton. There are so many memorable moments with June, and all of them were so surreal.
“The first time I saw her, she was sitting down eating apple pie and smoking at the same time [laughs] – just like Dot.
“June’s everything you want her to be – and she’s absolutely hilarious. A true legend. To get to work and spend time with June – who I’ve watched on television since I was a kid – was just amazing.”

Mary Berry puts Christmas turkey in sleeping bag

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Mary Berry puts her Christmas turkey in an old sleeping bag to insulate it.
The 87-year-old chef and TV presenter admits she has been known to overcook her bird at times, but nowadays she cooks it, covers it in foil and tea towels before putting it in an old sleeping bag to insulate before transporting the turkey to her daughter Annabel’s house.
She said: “I roast the turkey at home, and I’ve learned not to overcook it. So many times, even I have overcooked it.
“This time I’m cooking it without foil, I shall cover it with foil once it’s done, then I shall put some tea towels over the top. I’ve got an old sleeping bag that’s got no zip and I put that over the top in the corner of the kitchen and then I shall take that in the back of the car to Annabel’s.
“Once you take it out of the oven, it goes on cooking. And so you want to insulate that. I shall pop it in the back of the car inside it’s sleeping bag and we’ll be having drinks and lots of jollity until we need to carve it.”
Mary has also told how she once played a practical joke on her brother by cutting off the teats from a cow’s udder, which she had bought to make udder pie, and then posting them through his letter box.
Speaking on the ‘Dish’ podcast, she added: “There was somebody called Arthur Negus, who had an antiques programme. I did a Georgian dinner and a Victorian dinner, and – you know, it was all researched and I had to do an udder pie.
“So the udder was delivered to my parents’ house in Charlcombe, Bath. The first thing I did, which was very saucy, I cut off one of the teats and put it through my brother’s letterbox. He lived up the road.”
Dish, hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett is available on all podcast providers now.

Strictly’s Vito Coppola shares horrifying moment he was left choking on dancefloor

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Vito Coppola has told how he choked on spaghetti during a live performance last weekend.
The Italian dancer was forced to continue his Italian-inspired Charleston routine with partner Fleur East on Sunday night’s show (11.12.22), despite having pasta lodged in the back of his throat.
Appearing alongside Fleur on Strictly’s spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’, Vito opened up about the unusual mishap that took place.
Presenter Rylan Clark joked whether the “biggest challenge” he has faced during his ‘Strictly’ career has been eating while dancing, asking: “Now actual spaghetti! Listen you’re an Italian, I’m sure you love a bit of spaghetti now and again. But whilst dancing?”
Vito explained it’s not how it was meant to go down as he bit off more than he could chew, by shovelling a load of spaghetti into his mouth before hitting the dancefloor.
He said: “At the beginning it was just to take one spaghetti and then to pull it out. But of course the temptation, so I did like two or three.
“Next it was time to dance, so I just bit, I was chewing and for the whole dance, I was choking.”
Fleur added: “He was committed, he was committed to the role.”
Despite the unfortunate blunder, Fleur and Vito managed to win over the judges with their sensational dance routine and scored and impressive 39 out of 40 points.
Vito was emotional on Sunday during a touching tribute to Fleur, as he admitted she “saved” him from a tough time.
He said: “Fleur is one of the best people I have ever met in my life, she is so humble, she is a pure soul.
“She doesn’t know this but she saved me from a tough period that I had. She is so brave but humble, she never says no. She is so grateful and I am so proud of you.”

Lord Sugar: I would have won The Apprentice if I was on it as a teen

OHMYGOSSIP — Lord Sugar is confident he would have won ‘The Apprentice’ if he had been on the show as a contestant.
The 75-year-old businessman – who left school at 16 – has no doubt that if the BBC business show was around when he was a teen he would have been victorious.
Speaking to the Oxford Union, Lord Sugar said: “I was 16 or 17 when I started, and if ‘The Apprentice’ was around then, I would have won it.”
The ‘Apprentice’ officially began on BBC Two in 2005, and filming for season 17 has wrapped ahead of a 2023 return.
But Lord Sugar admits he had no real vision for the show.
He said: “I had no vision for the show. The original was formed in America where Donald Trump was the equivalent of what I do. He was useless, to be honest with you.
“The BBC wanted to find a businessman to replicate it and I thought it was exciting.”
Lord Sugar has no plans to retire as of yet, and doesn’t see himself slowing down anytime soon.
He added: “I have been a five-day-a-week bloke. I have never worked on the weekends.
“My wife reminds me I used to leave at 6am and come back at 7pm and I would not see the children at all as they would be in bed by the time I got back.
“I don’t see myself slowing down.”
Lord Sugar began his career working at a greengrocer before selling aerials from a van which he bought for £50, and he quickly made a name for himself when he opened his first business, Amstrad, back in 1968.

The ‘EastEnders’ actress – who portrays Jean Slater in the BBC One soap – was rehearsing for her part as the Wicked Queen in ‘Snow White’, at Chatham’s Central Theatre in Kent, when she fell and injured her arm.
She wrote on Instagram: “Rehearsing a wonderful Wicked Queen in this lovely script, with these lovely people at Central Theatre in Chatham..Took a little fall in dance …broke my wrist. Gillian later went under the knife to have a metal plate and pins inserted into her wrist, and as a result she cannot continue with the panto because her plate needs time to “settle”.
She added: “Surgery following day and suddenly my wrist has a metal plate and pins in it and I’ve strict instructions for the plate to settle and that’s me out of the show. Gutted. Graham Norton visited by the spirit of his late dog Bailey

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton is visited by the spirit of his late dog Bailey.
The talk show host suffered double heartbreak during lockdown 2020, after his beloved labradoodle Bailey died shortly after his rescue terrier Madge passed away.
He said: “Even now, a few years later, I will hear the click of his little nails on the floor or think I’ll catch sight of him out of the corner of my eye.
“But I’m so happy that he was in my life for all of that time because there’s something, no matter how you’re feeling, a dog, the thump of their tail, they are the consummate experts at living in the moment.”
But Graham is pleased that his pet pooches got to spend their last days in his native Ireland.
He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I’m really pleased they both got their final days in Ireland because that’s where they were happiest.
“Bailey was a very old, big dog and even on the morning he died he was down in the stream drinking and barking.
“Their lives were full even to the end.”
The 59-year-old TV presenter had initially planned to visit Ireland for a month, but he ended staying for four-and-a-half months when lockdown struck.
Graham previously opened up about the tragic loss of his pets.
He said: “He was 15. He was Bailey the Bear, he had a lovely last day down drinking his fill out of the stream.
“He was on his last legs, he wasn’t very mobile or anything. He had a seizure, and I took him up to the emergency place up in Cork and we said goodbye. I was so glad we got him back here.
“It was dramatic and awful and yet anyone who has done this knows, that moment when you get to give your dog that gift is kind … it’s kind of the greatest act of kindness you can do for that animal.
“My little terrier, Madge, she went at Christmas, but again, lovely that they got back to Ireland which is their favourite place in the world.”

Anton Du Beke feels Bruce Forsyth’s spirit by his side

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke says the spirit of his forever “hero” Sir Bruce Forsyth will be by his side as he walks out on stage for his solo show.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge is set to perform at the London Palladium next year, and the 56-year-old star has no doubts over his entertainer skills because he knows the late TV presenter will be alongside him.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I am truly going to have Brucie by my side as I walk out on stage. He will be with me. It’s going to be so great and it will be so emotional as well … Bruce has been my hero forever.
“One of my reasons for doing ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ was because Bruce was hosting and he was always my hero.
“We became good friends and that was a real highlight for me, in my life, to be able to call Brucie a friend. That was the best … everyone misses Bruce.”
Legendary entertainer Bruce first shot to fame in the 1950s through ITV series ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium’ and enjoyed a glistening career that spanned eight decades.
The former ‘Strictly’ host died on August 18, 2017, aged 89.
At the time of his death, his wife Lady Wilnelia Forsyth-Johnson – who married Bruce in 1983 – organised a private memorial where her husband made a name for himself.
A blue plaque mounted on the wall below the stage remembered Bruce as a national treasure and one of the UK’s greatest entertainer, who hosted his first ever one-man show in 1958 until his final show in 2015.
Lady Wilnelia previously couldn’t contain her excitement over Anton’s gig, and said it would bring great joy to Bruce’s family.
She said: “I’m sure he’ll be smiling from heaven, thinking it’s about time. He’d have been thrilled – he not only saw Anton as a judge, but as a presenter.
“He’s got this great sense of humour, just as Bruce had. The pair of them always had jokes about Bruce being his love child.”

Olly Murs doesn’t keep in touch with former X Factor co-stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs doesn’t keep in touch with any of his former ‘X Factor’ co-stars.
The 38-year-old singer took part in the show’s sixth series in 2009 when he finished runner-up to Joe McElderry, and the series also featured third-place Stacey Solomon, as well as Jedward, Danyl Johnson, and Rachel Adedeji, among others, but Olly isn’t sure why he doesn’t see any of his fellow former contestants now.
Asked if he keeps in touch with any of his fellow ‘X Factor’ 2009 stars, he said: “I don’t really, no!”
Quizzed on whether he sees Stacey because he lives nearby, he said: “Me and Stacey always got on really well. But again, it was really hard.
“It was really hard to I don’t know, I don’t know why we don’t keep in contact. And it’s a good question.
“I don’t know why we just we all went off on our own little paths. And we went and did our own thing.”
Olly admits he felt “embarrassed” with how his career took off when some of the other stars didn’t have the same “luck”, even though he insists they were all better singers than him.
Speaking on the ‘Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware’ podcast, he added: “The Hunger Games is a really good way of putting it. We were literally thrown into a house. And it was like each week one person would leave and be like a revolving door.
“And then it was kind of like, well, I’m still here. And so there was definitely massive amounts of competition between us all.
“I got on really well with all of them. But then when I left, I suppose my career went in a different direction to all the other guys because although a lot of them did music, mine just sort of catapulted a bit.
“So I felt almost a bit like how do I speak? Because these guys were all much better singers than me actually.
“Fantastic singers like the control the range, how great their voices were the power they sing every day. I was always just the lad from Essex that sung a bit of karaoke, got a bit of luck, really, but I was a performer, not necessarily the best singer.
“So I got a bit embarrassed, and I was a bit like, well, do I deserve it or not? I don’t know. And I wish I kept in contact with them more but I think the great thing about us all when we see each other, we have this unique bond that we all share the same experience. It’s really hard to understand.”

Jon Landau: Avatar will keep raising the bar

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Landau has promised that the ‘Avatar’ franchise will continue “raising the bar” in terms of storytelling.
The 62-year-old film producer has collaborated with director James Cameron on the long-awaited sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ and has revealed that future films in the sci-fi franchise will push the boundaries in terms of technology.
Speaking to Collider, Jon said: “Well, I think we’re gonna continue to raise the bar with the storytelling first. I think that what we’re gonna do is go out and meet some new clans. We’re gonna go out and see some different biomes, and that’s gonna present its own technological challenges. How do we present those? Just like water presented challenges in this one.”
Jon also challenged cinemas to develop new technology to make sure fans get the best possible experience when watching a blockbuster on the big screen.
The ‘Titanic’ producer said: “And, what we’re gonna also continue to do is not look at just how we use the tools of technology, but how do we get the exhibition community on board with creating a ubiquitous improvement across all theatres?
“Because that’s what we have to do as we compete with more and more home streaming and bigger screens. It’s not just about the content we create, it’s a partnership with exhibition.”
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has been one of the most expensive films of all time to make but James recently suggested that he isn’t concerned about the movie failing to perform at the box office.
The 68-year-old filmmaker said: “I don’t worry about it. I don’t think anything one does artistically in life should be determined by the trolls and naysayers. You just go where you think it makes sense.”

Zoe Saldana backtracks on movie franchise criticism

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Saldana has clarified her comments about being “stuck” in movie franchises.
The ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ star recently lamented how roles in ‘Star Trek’ and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) had limited her creatively but has now backtracked on the remarks and says she is grateful to have had the opportunity to work on major blockbusters.
Zoe told Deadline at the premiere of the ‘Avatar’ sequel: “I would love to set the record straight.
“I feel grateful and I feel like the luckiest girl in this town knowing that I was invited to join films with special directors in a special cast. And they resonated with people so much that we get a chance to come back again and come back another time.
“If anything, I’ve reaped all the benefits of that, I’ve gained friends. I still have mentors that I call and lean into.”
Zoe has eight-year-old twins Cy and Bowie, and Zen, six, with her husband Marco Perego and admits that she found it a struggle to juggle her franchise responsibilities with raising children.
She explained: “But you know, I think that once I started a family, it just became really hard for me to sustain both worlds and also cater to this curiosity of playing other different characters or playing earthlings you know, but I’m happy in space. I’ve always been happy in space. I relate to people that love space as well.”
Zoe, 44, says she relates to directors like James Gunn and James Cameron as they all see themselves as “misfits”.
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actress said: “I relate to men like James Gunn and James Cameron and JJ Abrams, and Steven Spielberg. Because maybe there is a common thread, maybe there’s something that we all have in common of knowing what it’s like to be misfits, and growing up feeling like you don’t belong and finding that space created that blank canvas, where you can imagine the unimaginable.
“And the fact that they saw me, a little girl from Queens and I can do those things for them, I can only be so grateful if they call me back again and again and again.”

Margot Robbie shocked by crazy Babylon

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie considers ‘Babylon’ to be the “craziest” movie of her career.
The 32-year-old star plays actress Nellie LaRoy in the film from Damien Chazelle that depicts the hedonistic early days of Hollywood and she says it tops ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ – where she shared intimate scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Margot told The Sun newspaper: “I remember being on set and thinking, ‘I’ll never be in a film as crazy as this ever again.’ And then I made ‘Babylon’.
“There’s a dizzying amount of debauchery. One of the most disturbing, chaotic scenes I’ve ever witnessed is in this film, and it involves a fight with a snake.
“I won’t tell you who wins or loses that fight but, trust me, it’s insane.”
Margot’s alter ego is inspired by the troubled Clara Bow, the original It Girl who scandalised the US by being open about her sexual desires during the 1920s, and the actress insists that she was willing to behave recklessly to stay true to her character.
The ‘Amsterdam’ star said: “I’d feel embarrassed if it was me, but it’s all her.”
Chazelle explained that he wanted to portray Hollywood’s decadent history on the big screen after learning about the scandalous past of some movie stars.
He said: “Hollywood back then was a place where, from the most depraved animalistic behaviour, emerged these works of art that were so beautiful and alluring.
“1920s Hollywood really was a cesspool of vice, hubris and excess. We tried to put that on screen. All of it.”
Damien added: “Towards the end of the 1920s there was this sort of rash of suicides, deaths, drug overdoses, and I found it coincided with the transition from silent to sound.
“I started looking at the kind of extreme living, the passion, ambition and recklessness of all stripes that characterised Hollywood at that time, and it got my brain going.”
