Donald Glover set for new Spider-Man universe movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Donald Glover is to star in and produce a new movie in the Spider-Man universe.
The 39-year-old actor is attached to star in the new film out of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man tentpole that will be centred on the villainous Hypno-Hustler.
Eddie Murphy’s son Myles Murphy is set to write the script for the as-yet-untitled film but plot details are being kept under wraps and a director has not yet been attached.
Hypno-Hustler is one of the lesser-known Spider-Man villains and first appeared in the comic book series ‘Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man’ in 1978.
The character was created by Bill Mantlo and Frank Springer and is otherwise known as Antoine Delsoin. He is known for fronting a band called the Mercy Killers and uses pieces of hypnotic equipment to rob those at his shows.
Glover has previous in the world of Spider-Man having voiced Miles Morales for Disney XD’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ as well as Morales’ uncle Aaron Davis in the Tom Holland-fronted ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
Donald almost had a cameo in the following film ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ but writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers had to “give up” on the idea as it didn’t fit with the plot.
McKenna said: “We definitely considered that. We definitely thought, ‘How great it would be to bring back Aaron Davis again?’
“Other considerations come in. We went down that road a little bit, then the movie really spent such little time in Queens and gets to Europe pretty quickly. Some ideas you just have to give up.”

Lindsay Lohan did her own stunts on Falling For Christmas

OHMYGOSSIP — Lindsay Lohan did her own stunts in ‘Falling For Christmas.’
The 36-year-old actress stars as hotel heiress Sierra Belmont – who develops amnesia after falling down a mountain – in the Netflix hit and now director Janeen Damian has explained that while the fall was a joint effort between stunt doubles and the actors, Lindsay performed some of it and was “really brave.”
She said: “That was a combination of stunt performers and our actors. That was Lindsay that you saw sliding down on her stomach. She’s really brave and really coordinated and our stunt coordinator made sure that our actors were safe. They did what they were comfortable with and then the rest was done with stunt performers.”
The ‘Mean Girls’ star is making her comeback to acting in the festive flick after taking almost a decade out of the spotlight due to personal issues and Janeen went on to pay tribute to Lindsay as an “intelligent” actress and she couldn’t “ask for more” on set.
Janeen told ScreenRant: “She’s such a talent, and she’s such an intelligent actor. She comes so prepared. It’s a joy to work with someone who brings so much to the screen and every single take she gives you gold. We’re actually editing right now on Irish Wish, and we have some [moments] where there are quite a few people in a scene. We can always go to Lindsay. She just brings it, and she has that “it” factor. She just has that star quality. She’s multifaceted. She’s got comedic chops, emotional charming, she just brings all of that which is perfect in a star of a rom-com. You can’t ask for more than that. That’s just brilliant.”

Charlie Cox recalls being starstruck by Robert De Niro

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Cox felt starstruck when he met Robert De Niro for the first time.
The 40-year-old actor starred alongside the Hollywood icon in the 2007 fantasy movie ‘Stardust’, and Charlie still considers it to be one of the best experiences of his career.
Asked about his best on-set experience, Charlie replied: “I’d been cast in ‘Stardust’, I was 23, and I was going to Pinewood every few days for a fitting or a rehearsal.
“Once I was waiting by the studio, smoking, and a car pulled up and Robert De Niro got out. I hadn’t know what we were going to rehearse that day, but it was our fencing stunt. That was a moment of, ‘Holy s***, I’m about to work with … Bob.'”
Charlie now feels a “responsibility” to set the tone whenever he’s cast in a lead role.
He told Total Film magazine: “I think there’s a responsibility for you to set a tone.
“I’ve been on sets where the lead actor has not fully embraced that, and it can lead to strange feelings on set.”
Charlie has enjoyed success in the film and TV industries during his career.
Despite this, he’s still retained some of his long-standing superstitions.
The actor – who starred alongside Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones in ‘The Theory of Everything’ in 2014 – shared: “On stage, I annoyingly buy into some of those things, like you never say the name of the Scottish play, and I try not to whistle. I don’t buy into it – I just don’t want to risk it!”

Jay Blades has been getting ‘a lot of grief’ over touching King Charles

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Blades has been getting “a lot of grief” over touching King Charles.
The 52-year-old TV star welcomed the now-monarch onto ‘The Repair Shop’ prior to the death of Queen Elizabeth when he was known as Prince Charles and was seen breaking royal protocol by touching the royal but thinks the move brought “him out of himself.”
He said: “Tell you what, the King would be fine because he’s got a good heart. That’s all you need in the community where I grew up. A good heart and a willingness to make a positive change.
“I think I did bring him out of himself. There was a moment when I thought he was just going to grab his clock back and I was like, ‘Nah, mate, hold on. These guys [the repair staff] have done a bit of work ’ere and you have to hear about it. There’s a procedure!’ As for the touching – I’ve been getting a lot of grief about that. ‘Jay, you broke protocol, mate!’”
Jay went on to add that there was “plenty” of security on the set of the BBC One restoration show and joked they didn’t tell him to “not touch the geezer” before remarking that the King is “only a human” and called for critics to be quiet.
He told The Times: “Well, there was plenty of royal security there to say don’t touch the geezer, but they didn’t. He’s only a human and he touched me too. So I think everyone should pipe down. There’s too many people out there who think they’re the Tripadvisor owl. They want to judge everything. Well, I don’t need you, owl.”

Helen Skelton and Hamza Yassin set to land six-figure contracts at the BBC

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton is set to land a massive contract at the BBC following her success on ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
The 39-year-old presenter has reached the final of the Latin and ballroom competition and – along with her professional partner Gorka Marquez – is set to go head-to-head with CBeebies star Hamza Yassin for the Glitterball trophy on Sunday’s (18.12.22) final but both contestants are reportedly set to be offered huge deals at the broadcaster following their time on the show.
A source said: “Helen are Hamza are well thought of at the BBC and the executives are delighted at how the show has boosted their profiles. They’ve wanted some sensational stars to emerge in’ Strictly’ this year which is a ‘full’ show for the first time since it was scaled back by Covid two years ago.”
Former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter Helen is the favourite to win, with odds of 7/4, while Hamza and his professional partner Jowita Pryzstal are at odds of 4/9, with the source going on to add that the pair – who will also face competition from ‘Nova Jones’ actress Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu and pop singer Fleur East and Vito Coppola in the final – have received more support from viewers than most.
The source told The Sun newspaper: “Viewers seem to have thrown their support behind Helen and Hamza in a way few other finalists have enjoyed. The Beeb are keen to build on that and make sure they stay with the BBC, which is where they’ve both developed their careers so far. They are both highly valued, even though their careers are at very different stages. She’s a well-known face on our screens while he is a little-known presenter at this stage.”

Molly Rainford worries her background may have cost her votes on Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly Rainford thinks her background could have cost her votes on ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
The 22-year-old star has reached the final of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition along with her professional partner Carlos Gu where she will face ‘Blue Peter’ presenter Helen Skelton and ‘Countryfile’ host Hamza Yassin but believes that her musical training could be why she has received fewer votes than her co-stars, even though she did “very little” dancing at stage school.
She said: “I think, potentially, [my training] could have been a factor. I’ve never had any confidence in dance at school. And the beauty of going to a theatre school meant that I could work while I was there. I did ‘Friday Download’ when I was at school, CBBC and loads of different things.”
The former ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star went on to add that while in school she was doing a lot of songrwriting sessions but admitted the notion that her background could be a “factor” in the voting figures before revealing that following her time on the show she would “love” to land a part in a musical.
She told the Radio Times: “And also, because I am a singer, I was doing a lot of writing sessions on those days where we did get vocational, so I wasn’t missing out on academics, but I feel like, yeah, I feel like maybe it’s a factor. But I think there’s so many different levels on this show. So could it be anything. I’d love to do something in theatre because I love to sing, I love to act, so I guess dance is that kind of final tick for that one”

Christopher Nolan ‘has always been fascinated by Oppenheimer’

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan has “always been interested” in J. Robert Oppenheimer.
The 52-year-old director’s new film centres on the theoretical physicist, who is often called the “father of the atomic bomb” for his role in the Manhattan Project, and Nolan has confessed to being fascinated by him.
He shared: “I’ve always been interested in Oppenheimer as a figure, and as an ambiguous figure in history.
“He is a long-standing fascination of mine. I think that it’s an extraordinary moment in history.”
The acclaimed director also thinks that Oppenheimer’s story is perfectly suited to cinema.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ director told Total Film magazine: “Oppenheimer was there at the moment the world irreversibly changed. And cinema is perfect for taking an audience to a point in time and space it could never access otherwise.
“So, for me, the excitement of Oppenheimer’s story is to be able to give the audience this extraordinary experience that he lived through, to really see and experience these events from his point of view. And the story is told very much from his point of view. It’s a very subjectively told story.”
Cillian Murphy heads the cast as the theoretical physicist, and he previously admitted that he found the responsibility to be both “immense” and “terrifying”.
Speaking about the challenge, he explained: “It does feel immense and it feels terrifying but if I felt it was easy, I wouldn’t be interested. I do get nervous, anxious and insecure, but then you go, ‘F*** it. I’ve been doing it for 25 years and I have done it before. So just keep going.'”

The 67-year-old TV star has teamed up with the Queen Consort, 75, for an upcoming special of his ITV show ‘For the Love of Dogs’ and described the royal as “dog mad” and “really funny.”
He said: “She’s really funny, we get on really well. You don’t feel like you’re on ceremony with her. I always get a big hug and kiss from her, which always shocks everybody! Camilla is dog mad-she’s got Battersea dogs of her Batt Holc Roy at th own already, she’s got two Jack Russells. She’s genuinely interested in what’s going on at Battersea and genuinely concerned. We were talking about how busy it is there now.”
‘For the Love of Dogs: A Royal Special’ will see Camilla host a garden party at Clarence House to mark the 160th birthday of Battersea Dogs Home and former drag queen Paul went on to tease that one of the special guests ended up adopting a pooch at the celebration.
He told MyWeekly: “It was a beautiful day, one of those red-hot days in the summer when we had the heatwave. So we were all togged up in suits, boiling hot looking for places to go in the shade! We took some of the dogs from Battersea to the garden party with us and I won’t give too much away but one of the guests ended up taking one of the dogs, which is what we’d hoped for!
“With Camilla we looked after a lovely Westie called George. He’d been attacked by another dog. which had completely destroyed his confidence. He was terrified of his own shadow. He was good with humans but not very good with other dogs, and I remember we spent a lot of time with George in a shed at Battersea’s Brands Hatch site.”
‘Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs – A Royal Special’ will air on Monday 19 December on ITV1.

Colin Farrell: I just want to make good movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Colin Farrell just wants to make “good” movies.
The 46-year-old actor has enjoyed a decades-long career in Hollywood and admitted that although he has taken some jobs purely for financial gain, at the heart of his career is the desire to “entertain.”
He said: “You just wanna do good stuff. Sometimes you’re going to work for entertainment and the money might be a bit better. Sometimes you’re going to work to satisfy your own curiosity. Whatever the reason, you have an understanding. Whatever the gig is, if it’s made for purely entertainment purposes, or for some greater intellectual or social provocation, you just wanna make something where people don’t waste an hour and a half, or two hours, of their lives, as simple as that sounds. If you do that, and if you live as authentically as you can in your life and in your art, then the legacy thing will take care of itself. ”
The ‘Batman’ star went on to add that his “legacy” will be in the friendships he has made during his time and was “tickled” when he found out that his movie ‘The New World’ had been added to the prestigious Criterion Collection, which is dedicated to publishing an “important” catalogue of films the contemporary world of cinema.
He told Collider: “Your legacy is through the friendships, and the people that you’ve met, and you’ve touched, and all that. Don’t get me wrong, when I saw that The New World was being put into the Criterion Collection, I did get tickled. One of my kids said to me, a while back, when he was talking about fame, “It’s weird, dad, in a hundred years, nobody will remember anything you’ve done.” I was like, “Maybe a hundred and fifty.” You can’t be concerned with that.”

Hamza Yassin wins Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Hamza Yassin has won ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 32-year-old TV presenter and his professional partner Jowita Przystał have been crowned as the latest winners of the BBC dance show.
Hamza – who became visibly emotional after being named as the winner – said: “Words can’t describe how I feel. Jowita, you are an angel disguised as a human being.”
Jowita, 28, was also full of praise for her partner, hailing Hamza as proof that “anything is possible”.
She said: “I think anything is possible. He’s just proof that anything is possible.
“He came here on the show with no dancing experience, with pigeon toes and he worked hard, and he made it.
“I would love to thank everybody, you are amazing.”
Earlier in the night, Hamza and Jowita opened the show with an eye-catching salsa routine that earned them a score of 39 out of a possible 40 points from the judges.
Head judge Shirley Ballas said: “What a way to open the final of ‘Strictly’ 2022.
“I particularly wanted to see this dance again because I wondered if there was a possibility you could improve it anymore – and you did!”
Motsi Mabuse was similarly enthusiastic about their salsa routine.
She said: “Watching it a second time, I thought, ‘Will I love it?’ I loved it more. It’s like you’re watching music in your body.”
Hamza and Jowita subsequently returned to perform their Show Dance.
Their second routine wasn’t as impressive as the first, but they were still awarded 34 points.
Craig Revel Horwood said: “‘I thought it was a little bit rocky and underwhelming if I’m honest. It did go a little bit wrong, which took you off balance.
“It was classy and classic like yourself.”

But it was ultimately Hamza and Jowita who lifted the coveted Glitterball Trophy at the end of the show.

Asa Butterfield ‘loves the Lord of the Rings trilogy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Asa Butterfield has always “loved” ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film franchise.
The 25-year-old actor became a fan of the money-spinning film franchise during his childhood, and Asa admits that he still turns to them for a bit of “comfort”.
Asked which film he’s watched the most, Asa replied: “It’s got to be ‘The Lord of the Rings’. I can’t think of any film I would’ve seen more than that.
“It’s my comfort film, so I watch it every year – the whole trilogy, in fact. I’ve loved them since I was a kid. Still do.
“Those movies occupy a very special place in my heart. I think they’re an incredible feat in film-making. You don’t really get movies like that anymore.”
Asa has starred in movies since his childhood, but he still feels nervous performing in front of an audience.
The actor – whose film credits include the adventure drama ‘Hugo’ and the historical drama movie ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ – told Empire magazine: “Weirdly, performing on stage scares me, or being in front of big crowds, which I know is counterproductive being an actor.
“If there’s a camera on me, I’m fine.”
Asa also admitted to hating horror movies during his younger years.
But over time, Asa has developed a passion for scary films and he now loves to watch them.
The London-born star shared: “I hated horror movies as a kid. They gave me sleepless nights for weeks.
“Just a trailer for a horror movie would send me into a spiral. But I enjoy them now.”

Shirley Ballas is taking Christmas off for the ‘first time ever’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas is taking Christmas off for the “first time ever.”
The 62-year-old star has served as Head Judge on ‘Strictly Come Dancing – which this year saw CBeebies presenter Hamza Yassin lift the Glitterball Trophy along with Jowita Przysta – since 2017 and is a regular face in pantomime but is taking a break over the festive season because of the online bullying she endured throughout the latest series.
“It’s the first time I’ve taken any time off – ever! I’m taking two and a half weeks off, because of the immense amount of trolling I got throughout this series. I decided I wouldn’t do panto this year. Last time I did it, I got a letter hand-delivered to the theatre that was very off-putting. I actually kept it. I don’t know why.”
However, the former Latin championship winner – who appeared alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse on the judging panel of the BBC Saturday night favourite – went on to insist that she has had a “blast” appearing on the 20th series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and even believes the latest edition has “topped” the 2021 competition, which was won by ‘EastEnders’ actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.
She told the Sunday Express’ Sunday Magazine: “I’ve totally had a blast on this series. I love it, I love the judges. I don’t think anybody thought we could top last year and suddenly we did. It looked like it could be anybody’s series because each of the celebrities has brought a different, great performance on certain weeks.”

Sam Worthington: Avatar 2 is not a carbon copy of the original

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Worthington has insisted that ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is not a “carbon copy” of the original.
The 46-year-old actor has teamed up with director James Cameron once again to reprise his role as former Jake Sully in the epic science fiction franchise and described the sequel as an “extension” of its 2009 predecessor.
He said: “Well look, it’s an extension of the first film. I think that’s what Jim promised us when he first talked to us about it in 2015, was when I first got a call. And he said, ‘I can expand on the world and not make this a carbon copy of the first one. I can expand on this family, and in doing so I think I can raise the stakes of everything.'”
The ‘Clash of the Titans’ star went on to explain that James Cameron – who is also responsible for bringing blockbusters such as ‘Titanic’ to the screen and is already shooting a third and fourth instalment of the ‘Avatar’ series – has a “really good track record” with film sequels which stands alone in the movie industry.
He told Collider: “And that’s what I think he’s done. I think he found an emotional throughline, which you’re about to see, that really ramps everything up. I think Jim’s very good at that. He’s very good. His track record of sequels, it stands by itself. His sequels are always familiar, but then he pushes it to this new level. We’ll soon see how everyone takes to it.”

Bill Roache signs £250,000 deal to stay on Coronation Street

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Roache has signed a deal reportedly worth £250,000 to stay on ‘Coronation Street.’
The 90-year-old actor has played Ken Barlow on the ITV soap opera since its very first episode in 1960 and the bumper pay deal will see him appear on the show for at least another year as his character – who was famously married to Deirdre Barlow until her death in 2015 – is embroiled in another love triangle with Wendy Crozier and Martha Fraser.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Ken Barlow has been at the heart of Coronation Street since it started 62 years ago and that’s not changing any time soon. And as we’ve seen with his recent love triangle storyline, he’s no plans to slow down.”
The news comes just days after Bill – who holds the world record for the longest-serving actor in a continuous role – received his OBE from King Charles for services to acting and revealed that the pair shared a joke about just how long he has been in the soap.
Bill said: “Charles was lovely – very friendly. He said, ‘Not still working are you?’ I said, ‘Yes, I just had two ex-girlfriends on the show’. He said, ‘Oh, that must have been work’, and I said, ‘May I wish you a long and joyful reign, sir?’ And he said, ‘Thank you, that will be a lot
of work too.’
“I love the Royal Family. I met the Queen about seven times.
Charles is really, really friendly and more easy going, possibly in a
sense. But the Queen was… when she came [to visit the ‘Corrie’ set] less
than a year ago she always listened, she was attentive, on the ball and didn’t miss a trick. And they always love the humour!”

Sir Sam Mendes feels ‘at home’ in a cinema

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Sam Mendes has always felt at “home” in a cinema.
The 57-year-old film director has been a huge fan of movies since his childhood, and he’s always felt a sense of “reassurance” whenever he’s visited a cinema.
He explained: “The cinema is the place you go when you’re lost, or when you feel the need for reassurance or some sense of home.
“Those places were created, not just to watch movies, but to let you explore a side of your physique and your entire emotional landscape that would otherwise be ignored.”
During his childhood, Sam visited the cinema as a means of escaping his everyday problems.
The filmmaker also relished having a bit of freedom.
He told Empire magazine: “I remember, particularly as a teenager, being able to get out of the house, away from problems, and go somewhere where you’re not known and nothing is expected of you.”
Meanwhile, in 2020, Sam claimed that theatre workers could easily “fall through the cracks” amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The industry was thrown into chaos in the UK by the pandemic, and Sam urged movie stars, streaming services and studios to lend their support to theatre workers.
Reflecting on the UK government’s response to the crisis, he said at the time: “There’s a great danger in this rescue package and in the arts world generally that the people who create the actual work fall through the cracks.
“These are the people who actually make the shows that the public pay to see.
“So there’s a danger that you’re going to have some very healthy arts administrations, accounts departments, foyers and bookshops, but you’re not going to have any work to put on the stages, because the people who make that work, who make up 70 percent of the theatre industry’s employees, are being effectively ignored.”
