Huw Edwards avoids jail after paying £1,500 for indecent child images and videos

OHMYGOSSIP — Huw Edwards has avoided jail after he paid £1,500 for indecent child images and videos.
The former BBC presenter, 63, was sent the pictures by a convicted paedophile on a WhatsApp group and had faced a maximum 12 months in jail for the offences after a judge kept the case at a magistrates court rather than sending it to crown.
Edwards avoided any jail sentence on Monday (16.09.24) after he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and was instead handed a six-month sentenced suspended for two years and placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
He reportedly remained “emotionless” at Westminster Magistrates’ Court as he was also told by Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring to attend a sex offender treatment programme as well as 25 rehabilitation sessions.
Mr Goldspring added ex-news anchor Edwards’ reputation has now been left in “tatters” after he was sent 41 images on WhatsApp – including two videos of a boy as young as seven.
Defence barrister Philip Evans KC said Edwards was “truly sorry” and “recognises” the “repugnant nature” of the images sent to him.
The shamed presenter claimed drinking and the decline in his mental health played a part in his indecent WhatsApp chats.
Mr Goldspring said when sentencing him: “Perhaps it does not need saying but you are of previous good character… it’s obvious that until now you were very highly regarded by the public.
“It is not an exaggeration to say your long-earned reputation is in tatters.”
As well as being subject to 25 rehabilitation sessions and being forced to attend a sex offender treatment programme for 40 days, Edwards was also ordered to pay £3,000 in prosecution costs.
The judge added when releasing him: “I am of the clear view that you do not present a risk or danger to the public at large, specifically to children. There is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”

Coronation Street’s Helen Worth leads tributes to late co-star Geoff Hinsliff

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Helen Worth has led tributes to former co-star Geoff Hinsliff, who has died aged 87.
The actor, best known for playing Don Brennan from 1987 to 1997, passed away last weekend, and Helen – who plays Gail Platt in the ITV soap – admitted Geoff will be “sadly missed” by the ‘Corrie’ team.
Speaking on behalf of the show, she said: “Geoff was a lovely, quiet man who will be sadly missed by us all.
“His partnership with Lynne Perrie was something rather special and they gave the viewers huge pleasure for many years.”
Don had regular run-ins with Mike Baldwin, who was played by the late Johnny Briggs, who passed away in 2021 aged 85.
At one point during their feud, Don tried to wreak revenge on Mike by kidnapping his wife Alma Baldwin (Amanda Barrie).
Don plunged his taxi into the Weatherfield Canal with both him and Alma inside, but somehow both survived.
However, another attempt at revenge led to Don’s death.
He tried to run Mike over but missed the businessman and crashed his car into a viaduct, and the motor exploded, killing Don instantly.
Before landing his regular role as Don, Geoff appeared in Weatherfield from 1963 to 1977 in various roles.
As well as his time in ‘Corrie’, Geoff appeared in episodes of ‘Dixon of Dock Green’, ‘The Professionals’, and ‘Heartbeat’.
He also starred in two ‘Doctor Who’ stories, ‘Image of the Fendahl’ and ‘Nightmare of Eden’, and played an alcoholic in a 2010 episode of ‘Holby City’.
But for many, Geoff will always be known as George Fairchild from comedy show ‘Brass’.

‘I was working on something else’ Gemma Collins turned down Traitors US offer

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins turned down the chance to appear on ‘The Traitors US’.
The ‘TOWIE’ legend has admitted she is open to offers for TV projects, but she wasn’t able to take part in the American TV series – which is filmed at Ardross Castle, Scotland, the same location as UK series ‘The Traitors’ – because she had another commitment.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column as saying: “I got asked to do ‘The Traitors’ last series. But I couldn’t do it because I was working on something else.
“When it comes to TV shows, if they ring me and they say, ‘Do you want to do this?’ then I’ll either say yes or no.
“Whatever the universe is going to bring me … it’s all good.”
Gemma’s comments come after a ‘Celebrity Traitors’ series was recently confirmed by the BBC, and the 43-year-old star hasn’t ruled out the possibility of taking part.
She added: “I’ve got a few things in the pipeline.”
Last month, Stephen Fry was linked to ‘Celebrity Traitors’, with the TV presenter thought to be at the top of presenter Claudia Winkleman’s wish list.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Claudia put Stephen right at the top of celebs she’d want on ‘The Traitors’ and Stephen has made it clear he’d be game.
“Stephen is a fan of the show and Claudia was desperate for him to be in it.
“No contracts have been signed yet – but he told the show’s bosses to name a time and date and he’ll be there.”
What’s more, BBC bosses are also said to be keen to sign up comedian Rick Gervais.
A source explained: “The Beeb want the crème de la crème of stars for the celeb spin-off, and they ideally have to be incredibly smart, funny, and mischievous – and that’s Ricky in three words.
“Behind the scenes, big names have already expressed their interest in taking part from the moment it was revealed the new version of ‘The Traitors’ was being made.
“So Ricky will be in good company around the ‘Traitors’ table, but whether he takes part will probably depend on his hugely busy diary.”
A third season of ‘The Traitors’ has been filmed and is due to air in January. A fourth series is also being planned alongside the celebrity version.

‘We love it!’ Lorraine Kelly up for 3rd series of Celebrity Race Across the World

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorraine Kelly is up for taking part in the next ‘Celebrity Race Across the World’ series.
The 64-year-old TV presenter “loves” the star-studded BBC programme, and if she was part of the next series she would ask her daughter Rosie Smith, 30, or her husband Steve Smith, to take part in the race with her.
When asked on her ‘Lorraine’ show who she would choose to do the programme with, she said: “I think I would probably do it with Rosie, she is so organised, or with Steve, my husband. He’s really, super organised.
“I love travelling with him, because he has everything.
“He says, ‘Right, you’ve got half an hour to shop. Back here in half an hour.’
“I don’t have any airport stress.”
“It’s a great show though. We love it.”
BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills and his husband Sam Vaughan won the second series of the celebrity programme on Wednesday night (18.09.24).
The couple beat off competition from broadcaster Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy Brazier, ‘Ted Lasso’ actor Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen, and model and broadcaster Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi.
Each pairing was given a budget of £1,100 and tasked with travelling 7,800 miles across South America, but they weren’t allowed their mobile phones, or air travel.
Scott was left “speechless” when he realised he and Sam had triumphed.
He said: “Speechless, when you open that book, and there are no other names in it – there’s no other feeling like it.
“I can confirm it’s the best feeling ever.
“It’s been exhilarating, it’s been tough, it’s been so frustrating at times, but we’ve been there for each other, the good, the bad, the ups and downs.
“It just proves we’re a great team – a winning team.”

Nick Knowles reveals staggering Strictly Come Dancing weight loss

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Knowles has shed two stone from “really tough” ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ training sessions.

“I’m really sort of flat footed, rugby player for years, not really built for this kind of thing at all. But little bit by little bit Luba’s getting me up on my toes, making all 18 stone of me a little bit lighter on my feet!
“I’ve lost about 13 kilos probably so far!
“What I’ve done is I’ve taken all that and made a little person who runs around carrying my mobile phone behind me.”

As a result, the celebrities have each been given chaperones during their time on the programme, but Nick has found the process “super supportive”.
He said: “I can only speak from my experience but we have all the psychological and physical help and everyone has been super kind and supportive.
“But it’s good people have been listened to as well with what has happened. I still wanted to do it anyway.”

“I like to film the routine sometimes so it is nice to have someone there.”

‘Did I make any sense?’ Kate Garraway had ‘out of body experience’ at NTAs

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway had an “out of body experience” when she made her National Television Awards speech on Wednesday evening (11.09.24).
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter returned to her day job on the ITV morning show on Thursday (12.09.24) with her NTAs Authored Documentary trophy in hand, after she scooped the prize for her film ‘Derek’s Story’.
Kate’s documentary told the story of her late husband Derek Draper, who had been seriously ill since contracting COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic in 2020, and passed away in January aged 56.

Kate replied: “A total tribute to Derek, it was his story, and to the production company who made it so beautifully for him and for all carers really.
“I’m glad you said it was such a beautiful speech because it was such an out of body experience.
“I came off stage [and said], ‘Did I make any sense?!’
“Because it’s such a strange moment and the children were lovely, so thank you.”
“It’s for the carers, it’s for the people who are vulnerable who need the care and for the people who do the caring, the brilliant professional carers.”
At the NTAs, Kate admitted it was a “bittersweet” award win following Derek’s passing.
Speaking to the audience at London’s The O2 alongside her and Derek’s children, Darcey, 18, and Billy, 15, she said: “I really genuinely did not expect this, goodness me.
“This is a bittersweet one isn’t it? It’s very bitter to be here, with the gorgeous Darcey and Billy. I promised them they didn’t have to say anything. We’re halfway through the first year of firsts really. A first Easter and first birthday, without Derek. It’s so strange to be here for the first Television Awards without him.
“Derek, we’re going to keep the fight on for you.”

Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas wants to dress more like ‘iconic’ Claudia Winkleman

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas wants to dress more like “iconic” Claudia Winkleman.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge has been speaking to her 38-year-old son Marc Ballas, and he has advised her to start styling herself like the 52-year-old presenter, who fronts the BBC Latin and ballroom show alongside Tess Daly, 55, and is known for her chic looks and dramatic fringe.
The 64-year-old star said: “My son has been chatting to me because he loves Claudia. He loves the way she dresses. He thinks she’s iconic.
“I think he’s got a little soft spot there. So I’ve been looking at some amazing power suits as well … wait and see!”
Shirley praised the “remarkable” crop of celebrities who will compete on this year’s show – who include reality star Pete Wicks, 36, JLS’ J.B. Gill, 37, singer Toyah Wilcox, 66, and TV presenter Nick Knowles, 61 – as the programme gears up to celebrate 20 years since its 2004 debut.
She said: “Well, I have to say, I think it’s absolutely remarkable.
“We’ve got singers, Olympians, actors, sports stars, TV stars, and even a doctor.
“I can’t wait to get to know each and every one of them when they’re on the dance floor. I do believe the majority of these people are great movers.
“I think it’s a great cast, and I’m looking forward to getting to know them all. So hold on to your hat. Buckle up your seat belt, ‘Strictly’, is about to take off.”
Shirley admitted she avoids liquids when the cameras start rolling on live ‘Strictly’ episodes, but she looks forward to chocolates being offered during the breaks.
She said: “I don’t tend to drink any fluid once I’m on TV because I’m always nervous, and it’s live, so you can’t get up and go to the loo.
“In between the VTs, there’s a lovely lady who comes around with a box of sweets, which we all look forward to.
“Of course, Anton Du Beke steals all the good ones, but I might pinch a sweet occasionally, though not very often. I like to stay focused.”
‘Strictly’ will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its new series on Saturday (14.09.24) from 7.20pm.

Juliette Lewis and Mamoudou Athie starring in By Design

OHMYGOSSIP — Juliette Lewis and Mamoudou Athie will lead the cast of the body swap film ‘By Design’.
The pair are on board to play the central roles in the indie flick that has been written and directed by Amanda Kramer.
Other cast members in the movie – which has wrapped production in Los Angeles – including Samantha Mathis, Robin Tunney, Clifton Collins Jr., Udo Kier and Betty Buckley.
Plot details haven’t been disclosed but the picture is described as a twist on the body swap genre.
Miranda Bailey and Natalie Whalen are producing for Cold Iron Pictures along with Sarah Winshall, Jacob Agger and Kramer.
Juliette began her film career in the late 1980s and feels lucky to have worked together with some of the most talented figures in the industry.
The 51-year-old star told Entertainment Tonight: “I really got fortunate early on. And I didn’t know this at the time because people would say after ‘Cape Fear’ and I don’t know, ‘Natural Born Killers’, they’re like, ‘You’re gonna be so spoiled.’ Because I worked with these really phenomenal directors. I was like, ‘What? It’s not just always like this?’
“And they treated me like my ideas were valid, so I was always welcome to create and create strongly. That developed a real, if we’re talking about creative, survival. It developed a big muscle of adventure and trying things creatively that I use to this day.”
Lewis is also starring opposite Peter Dinklage in the Western film ‘The Thicket’ and says her childhood horse riding came in useful for her role as gang leader Cut Throat Bill.
She told ‘Just for Variety’: “I’m a third-place ribbon barrel racer.
“I was an equestrian. I grew up riding horses before I was 12. So the first thing we did in Calgary (where the movie was shot in the dead of winter) was get on a horse.
“They wanted to check us out, how you rode. I got a very good rating with my horse riding.”

Judd Apatow to direct Cola Wars with Steven Spielberg producing

OHMYGOSSIP — Judd Apatow and Steven Spielberg are to team up for ‘Cola Wars’.
The ‘Knocked Up’ filmmaker is to direct the movie about Pepsi’s attempts to challenge Coca-Cola during the 1980s with the legendary ‘Jaws’ helmer on board as a producer through his Amblin Entertainment company.
The movie delves into the Cola Wars as Pepsi tried to challenge Coca-Cola’s long reign as the world’s top cola with key events including Michael Jackson’s hair being set on fire when a stunt for a Pepsi advert went awry in 1984 as well as Coca-Cola’s disastrous introduction of ‘New Coke’ the following year.
‘Cola Wars’ is in development at Sony and is being written by Jason Shuman and Ben Queen and it is thought to be similar to the film ‘Air’, which was directed by Ben Affleck and told the story of how Nike were able to transform their fortunes through a shoe deal with basketball icon Michael Jordan.
Apatow’s recent movies ‘The King of Staten Island’ and ‘The Bubble’ have been released on streaming platforms but he is hopeful that the comedy genre can experience a revival in cinemas following the difficulties posed by the pandemic.
The 56-year-old director told Vulture: “I assume it’ll swing back.
“The industry does follow the leader… for comedy, it just requires another hit or two. If a movie like ‘The Hangover’ came out and it was a big hit, suddenly everyone would want five more of those.”
Judd added: “Here’s the thing that most people don’t understand because they’re not in any of those executive suites: There’s a hit and then they just go, ‘Oh, people like that. Make more like that.’ The thinking is not deeper than that.
“They will just chase anything that does well because people generally are averse to risk-taking.”

Anna Maxwell Martin and Anna Friel sign up for Jimmy McGovern’s new BBC drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Maxwell Martin and Anna Friel have been cast in a new BBC drama from Jimmy McGovern.
The ‘Marcella’ star and the ‘Line of Duty’ actress will be joined by Bobby Schofield, David Threlfall and Mark Womack in the as-yet untitled single drama, which will explore the impact of grooming and sexual abuse on one family.

The 90-minute single drama will be set and filmed in Liverpool.
It will tell the story of the Mitchell family, who are dealing with the devastating aftermath of an act of abuse, and the knowledge that it was perpetrated by a member of their own family who has just been released from prison, after serving his sentence.

“His new film sensitively examines the pain of abuse and how it affects not only the victim but ripples out across the whole family.

Colin McKeown, executive producer for LA Productions – who will make the film – added: “This is a profoundly challenging and sensitive subject, tackled with intelligence and care by Jimmy McGovern.
“It’s a privilege to be working with him again following the success of our previous collaborations on single dramas: Common, Care, Reg and Anthony.”

He wrote on Instagram: “I can’t believe you’re going to be my wife. I’m truly the luckiest man on earth to have such a gentle, caring and beautiful woman by my side. You fill my heart to the brim and give my soul peace.
“You have been with me when I’ve been at my lowest and helped me understand myself to navigate my own darkness.
“You have also celebrated the highs which have been so many, as for the first time in my life, I’m happy with the man I’ve become. You came to church with me and joined the incredible community we have there without a question.
“Your family have always treated me so generously with their time, emotion and trust. I can’t wait to be joined with them too. I’ve always believed that when two people are engaged and later married that we are no longer two people but we join as one and it’s the biggest privilege to share that with you.
“Seeing you show the love you give to the most important person in my life, George, even from day one, there was never a question about you becoming my wife one day. I’m looking forward to our life together and the many challenges we’ll face.

Matthew 19:6
“So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (sic)”
Holly admitted she “cannot put into words” how she is feeling to be engaged to Adam, and she “cannot wait” to be the Team GB star’s wife.
She wrote: “I am marrying my best friend. I truly cannot put into words how I am feeling right now. I still remeber how big my smile was the morning I got home from my first date with you.

“I promise to always be there with you and George, I’m so greatful to be in his life and I cannot wait for more.
“Everything is better with you. Everything has been better since you. Here’s to forever.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But
the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (sic)”
On his Instagram Stories, Adam revealed he had been working with a jewellery company for 10 months to find and make the “perfect yellow diamond ring” for his bride to be.
Adam – who has four-year-old son George with his ex Eirianedd Munro, who he split from in August 2022 – met Holly through her sister Tilly Ramsay, who competed on ‘Strictly’ in the same year as him in 2021.
Eirianedd previously said Adam appearing on ‘Strictly’ was the “beginning of the end” for their romance.
Asked in April if they would still be together if he hadn’t appeared on the show, she told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “It’s hard to say. I think it helped us realise what we wanted in life. Sadly, if it wasn’t for ‘Strictly’ it would’ve been something else.
“I’m grateful we found out we were not meant for each other sooner rather than later, for the sake of our young son.”
