Love Island’s David Salako reveals worst date story

OHMYGOSSIP — David Salako signed up to ‘Love Island’ because he hasn’t found “the one” yet.
The 24-year-old money advisor was teased as one of two Bombshell arrivals at the end of Tuesday’s (17.01.23) episode and will be seen entering the villa alongside model Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown but revealed that he can be “very picky” when it comes to dating as he recalled a time he dated a girl he found to be too clingy.
He said: “I’m very picky – I haven’t met the right one yet. The person you’re going to meet is never going to be perfect, but I’ve got my standards, yeah. I met someone through an app, she was messaging me all the time. When I met her, she
said, ‘I’ve been down your social media followers, you follow a lot of girls. Do you know all of these girls? If I was in a relationship with someone I wouldn’t want them following that many girls.’ I said to her, ‘This is a bit too much for me.’”
Meanwhile, David was asked what gives him the “ick” and admitted he doesn’t like it when girls drunkenly sing along to classic songs in bars and explained that while he can hold a tune himself, he will never be heard doing so because he lacks “confidence.”
He said: “When girls sing-along all messy to songs like ‘Wonderwall’ in the bar [it gives me the ick]. I can sing, but I will never sing! I just haven’t got the confidence to do it! I’m a really good judge of character. I feel like I can read someone. I haven’t got any qualifications for that but…”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX. The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Love Island’s Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown has a ‘shambolic’ love life

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown has a “shambolic” love life.
The 24-year-old model was teased as one of two Bombshell arrivals alongside money advisor David Salako, also 24, on the second episode of ‘Love Island’ on Tuesday (17.01.23) and explained that she signed up to the ITV reality dating show because nothing in her personal life has been “working” for her so far.
She said: “It’s been something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. My love life is a bit shambolic so it would be nice to date in a different environment as whatever I’m doing at the
minute isn’t working. [I will bring] sass, vibes and good energy. I’m a massive hype girl, I’m very complimentary so I hope to keep the vibes up in the Villa. I’ll also bring spice, I’m a bit different and I don’t think there’s anyone in there that’s like me so I reckon I’ll keep things interesting.”
Zara went on to add that she believes she is still single because she has “very high standards” because of her profession and explained that she “knows what works” in a relationship becuase of her “amazing parents.”
She said: “I have very high standards because of the industry I’m in but also because of my family. My parents have a great relationship, I’ve got an amazing mother and father and I know what works in a relationship. It takes me a while [to fall in love] as I have high standards and I’m fussy but when I meet someone that I like I fall in love very quickly.”

Tom Clare steals Olivia from Will on Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Clare stole Olivia from Will on ‘Love Island.’
The 23-year-old semi-professional footballer arrived in the South African villa as a Bombshell addition to the hit ITV2 reality dating show on Monday’s (17.01.23) episode and the following day was seen being given the power to steal a girl from someone else, finally choosing to couple up with ring girl Olivia Hawkins, 27, leaving farmer Will Young, 23, single and in danger of eviction.
Speaking to his fellow Islanders around the campfire, Tom said: “It’s been a very tough decision for me and what’s made it so hard is that all the girls have such different personalities and I find them all attractive. It’s been a very tough decision. But I’ve decided to couple up with this girl because I definitely think she’ll keep me on my toes, I think she’s absolutely stunning and I know it’s only early days but I do genuinely think there’s probably something there with this girl. The girl I’d like to couple up with is Olivia.”
Earlier in the episode, Tom had been seen talking to hair stylist Tanyel Revan, 26, – who is currently coupled up with 24-year-old PE teacher Kai Fagan – about how everyone had been managing since entering the villa and she insisted that everyone was “getting to know each other.”
He asked: “How are you guys in your couples?”
She replied: “Everyone is still getting to know each other.”
Tom then nodded in agreement as Tanya then asked: “How tall are you?” to which he replied: “6’5, I like to be the little spoon though!”

BBC filming Strictly Come Dancing for amateurs

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC is working on a new primetime show that is ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for amateur dancers.
The competition will be titled ‘Clear The Dancefloor’ and is being made by the production firm Tuesday’s Child, with filming due to kick off next month.
It’s also reported that some “old stars” from the Latin and ballroom show – which was won by wildlife cameraman and presenter Hamza Yassin in 2022 – will “crop up”.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The public can’t get enough of dance shows so the Beeb is keen to keep up with demand.
“There’s a lot of hope pinned on this sparkly new show and producers are hoping it will be a big hit.
“It’s light, fun entertainment, just what viewers needs when there’s no Strictly to watch.
“Expect to see a few old Strictly stars crop up too.”
Meanwhile, Kym Marsh recently admitted her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ stint taught her to give herself “more credit”.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star took part in the latest series alongside pro partner Graziano di Prima, and she was eliminated during the quarter-finals in musical week.
Recalling her time on the programme, Kym said: “I learned new skills, new things about myself, lost a fair bit of weight and met some amazing people.
“I never saw myself as someone who was up there with the best dancers, but the whole experience taught me to give myself more credit.
“I’m proud of what I achieved. I’ve always been open about my struggles with anxiety, and there were times on set where it threatened to take hold. I was nervous but discovered I could beat it and take control.
“That’s the lesson I’ll cherish most. I’ve realised how far I’m able to push myself and overcome things I might think I’m too weak to do.”
Kym – who has children, David, 27, and Emilie, 26, with ex Dave Cunliffe and Polly, 11, with ex-husband Jamie Lomas – wants to continue setting a good example for her children by working hard.
She added to Prima magazine: “I want to keep working hard, setting a good example to my kids and spending time with my grand-children.
“The past few years have been about setting my sights high and challenging myself – and I’m going to continue to do that. I want to keep testing my limits and proving my capabilities.”

Patrick Murray wants an Only Fools and Horses revival

OHMYGOSSIP — Patrick Murray would “love” to do a new series of ‘Only Fools and Horses.’
The 66-year-old actor starred as Mickey Pearce alongside Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst in the classic sitcom from 1983 until 2003 and despite the death of series creator John Sullivan, is confident his co-stars would also be willing to take part in a revival if the “quality” of the writing was still there.
He said: “I’d love it. Getting together again and with all the cast and seeing how all the characters have developed. Mickey will probably have a little Mickey running around. If the quality of the script was there, I imagine the others would be up for it too. John Sullivan was such a great writer, but his son Jim is really good and I’m sure he could achieve it.”
Meanwhile, the comedy star – who has seven-year-old daughter Josie with wife Anong – was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2021 and despite being declared cancer-free in May last year, had to undergo a life-saving operation last week to remove half his liver and a newly-discovered tumour but will be “eternally grateful” to his surgeon., who had also worked with late footballing legend George Best.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “I had the same surgeon as George Best, Professor Nigel Heaton, and he was delighted with the outcome as the tumour wasn’t in a good place. So I’m eternally grateful to him. Amazingly, the liver will grow back in four weeks — I couldn’t believe it when he told me!”

Tom Hanks reveals most underrated movie from his career

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Hanks thinks ‘Road to Perdition’ was an “incredibly important” part of his career.
The 66-year-old actor won Oscars for his roles in classic movies ‘Philadelphia’ and ‘Forrest Gump’ but explained that the 2002 crime drama – in which he starred as mob boss Michael Sullivan during the Great Depression – is often overlooked by fans but believes the picture is significant because he got to work with ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star Jude Law and ‘James Bond’ actor Daniel Craig.
Speaking on Cinema Blend’s ‘Reel Blend’ podcast, he said: “You just gave me chills, because I got news for ya, for one reason or another, no one references Road to Perdition. And that was an incredibly important movie for me to go through. It was shot by Conrad Hall, and you have me in it, ‘Don mustache’ with a hat on it, but you also have two guys who turned out to be two of the biggest motion picture presences in the history of the industry with Jude Law and [Daniel] Craig. And I killed both of them.”
However, the ‘Cast Away’ star went on to predict that ‘Road to Perdition’ may go on to become an “obscure” part of cinema history that fans will one day be glad to “revisit” in decades to come.
He added: “People always say, ‘What movies will they be talking about years from now?’ As a guy who watches Turner Classic Movies a lot, and the more obscure and unknown a movie from 1940s or 1950s the better, because I have no preconceived notions about it, I don’t know anything about it, and when you watch those movies and it’s crackerjack and it’s incredibly moving and all I can think of is ‘I’m so glad this movie lasts forever, so I got a chance to revisit it now. That might be the case with ‘Road to Perdition’.”

Janelle Monae felt rewarded to work on Glass Onion

OHMYGOSSIP — Janelle Monae feels rewarded that audiences are enjoying ‘Glass Onion’.
The 37-year-old star features in the sequel to ‘Knives Out’ as Helen Brand and has earned awards recognition for her work but she insists that the opportunity to work on the movie is an honour.
Janelle told Collider: “There is no awards committee that owes me anything. My reward has already come with the work itself.
“I’m rewarded every time I think about working with Rian Johnson. That’s the reward. When I’m working with Daniel (Craig), Kate (Hudson), Edward (Norton), Leslie (Odom Jr.), Kathryn (Hahn), Madelyn (Cline), Jessica (Henwick), Dave (Bautista), Noah (Segan), that’s the reward, right?
“Being in this film is the reward. Touching people. People watching the film two times, three times, four times, that is the reward. You know what I mean? You just go with gratitude and you’re pointing to something that you love and you’re talking about this experience that meant so much to you. All of that means just so much.”
Janelle revealed how she got very emotional during the film’s concluding sequence where her character stands up to billionaire Miles Bron (Norton) and was grateful for the support of her cast mates.
She said: “Everybody was so there for me during that moment. I felt embarrassed because I had gotten deeply emotional, I remember, and they were just telling me, ‘It’s okay. It’s okay. This is what we’re here for.’
“That was a moment that I remember going home and being like, these are really my friends. Forget the acting, forget the personas that we have. This was human to human moment that I’ll always remember.”

Marisa Abela lands Amy Winehouse role in Back to Black

OHMYGOSSIP — Marisa Abela will play Amy Winehouse in the biopic ‘Back to Black’.
The ‘Industry’ actress has landed the lead role in the movie about the tragic singer that is in development at Focus Features.
Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing the movie and it is understood that Marisa’s audition impressed film bosses and put her in pole position to land the role.
Abela soon signed on and Focus moved quickly to land distribution rights for the project.
Taylor-Johnson was close friends with Amy before her tragic death at the age of 27 in 2011 and it said that her movie has the full support of the late singer’s father Mitch Winehouse.
Various projects about Amy have been in development but none have come to fruition. The 2015 Asif Kapadia documentary ‘Amy’ proved successful and won an Oscar but was criticised for being “misleading” by Mitch.
Taylor-Johnson said: “My connection to Amy began when I left college and was hanging out in the creatively diverse London borough of Camden.
“I got a job at the legendary Kolo Club, and I can still breathe every market stall, vintage shop and street… A few years later Amy wrote her searingly honest songs whilst living in Camden.
“Like with me, it became part of her DNA. I first saw her perform at a talent show at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho and it was immediately obvious she wasn’t just ‘talent’… she was genius.”
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ director said: “As a filmmaker you can’t ask for more. I feel excited and humbled to have this opportunity to realise Amy’s beautifully unique and tragic story to cinema accompanied by the most important part of her legacy – her music.
“I am fully aware of the responsibility, with my writing collaborator – Matt Greenhalgh – I will create a movie that we will all love and cherish forever. Just like we do Amy.”

Mandy star Diane Morgan had ghostly encounter as a child

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Morgan believes “in an afterlife”.
The ‘Motherland’ star detailed an encounter she had at her grandmother’s house when she was a child where she was certain that a “black shadow” was watching her.
The 47-year-old actress told the Daily Star newspaper: “I like to believe in an afterlife.
“In my grandmother’s house when I was around 11 or 12, I was brushing my hair in the mirror and got a strange feeling someone was staring at me until they were an inch away from my face.
“There was a black shadow on the wall – and it started moving towards me. It wasn’t summer so couldn’t have been my own shadow – I ruled everything out – it kept coming closer until I ran out.
“I thought that was the start of something but since then, nothing. It was stranger than being filmed as there was no one else there.”
As well as her role as Liz in sitcom ‘Motherland’, Diane has starred in a string of successful comedy shows, including Ricky Gervais’ ‘After Life’, ‘Mandy’ and ‘Cunk On Britain’.
Diane got to star opposite Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder in the first season of ‘Mandy’ and she has described the singer as “brilliant” and “up for anything”.
She said: “He was brilliant – up for anything, no airs and graces.
“I love him and Bez on ‘Gogglebox’ and could watch them for a whole episode.
“He didn’t talk to me about aliens though.”
Diane is a distant relative of ‘Coronation Street’ legend Julie Goodyear – who played Rovers Return landlady Bet Lynch on the ITV soap – and she admits that the larger than life performer is an influence on her sitcom character Mandy Carter.
Diane said: “Julie is something like my grandma’s sister’s cousin’s daughter. I’ve never met her, but when I play Mandy, I see a touch of her.”

Jermaine Pennant and Jess Impiazzi ‘are staying away from reality TV’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jermaine Pennant and Jess Impiazzi “are staying away from reality TV”.
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ stars – who got together after the former Arsenal and Liverpool footballer split from Alice Goodwin, the mother of his 12-year-old son Trey – are not keen to “do that sort of thing” anymore after their respective appearances on the star-studded edition of the series.
The 40-year-old former footballer told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “We are staying away from reality TV.
“The message we’ve given to our agent is that we don’t want to do that kind of thing.
“There’s no point in them telling us about offers to do reality stuff anymore. That phase has been and gone for us.”
The 33-year-old actress added: “I just want to focus on my acting. It’s what I trained to do and it’s what I want to be doing. It’s something I love and it’s authentic so I don’t want to do anything to ruin it. I’m just keeping my head down and working hard.”
Jessica – who recently starred in the BBC One drama ‘Strike – praised her boyfriend for “smashing it” with his broadcasting career after he declared bankruptcy for failing to pay millions of pounds in tax.
She said: “Jermaine is doing really well, too. He has his presenting and sports punditry. He is smashing it.”
Recently, Jermaine – who also played wing for Liverpool FC – admitted he had the potential to be a “billionaire” before he “f***** it up” before his ADHD diagnosis, a condition that led him to forget he owned a multi-million pound house.
He said: “In all honesty, I could have been a billionaire and still f***ed it up.
“I have made so many mistakes but I did not know how to deal with things and would not think of the consequences of my actions.
“I have been labelled a bad-boy but, in reality, I was just an insecure kid who did not know what he was doing.”

Love Island star Kai Fagan won’t let his teaching career stop getting frisky

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ star Kai Fagan is ready to get frisky in the villa even if might affect his teaching career.
The 24-year-old educational expert has admitted he will probably “forget” about the cameras when he is on the ITV reality dating show – which kicks off on Monday night (16.01.23) with new host Maya Jama, who replaced Laura Whitmore – and go for it with one of the babes if he gets the chance.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I can’t say right now whether I’m going to… I feel like after a while of being in the villa, you probably forget that you’re getting recorded. If stuff happens, stuff happens, doesn’t it?”
When asked if he’s worried any sexy antics might have an impact on his career, he added: “I can’t really necessarily say for definite, because if it is teaching, there are hundreds and thousands of opportunities and we’re in a recruitment crisis at the minute. If I can demonstrate I’m a good enough teacher, then probably not.”
Kai – who has resigned from his teaching post to appear on the show – believes going on television can be “inspiring” to his ex pupils.
He said: “A massive part of teaching is developing good personalities, good relationships and positive relationships.
“Some of the pupils come from backgrounds where they don’t have parents. They come from broken homes.
“So if I can demonstrate to them that I can develop a good enough relationship with somebody and show them genuine love and there’s no pressure on it, if anything, it’s inspiring to them.”
The rugby player opted to go on ‘Love Island’ because he doesn’t want to live a life with any regrets.
“I’ve always sworn in life, I want to live a life that’s like a story. If there are opportunities in life, I’m going to take it…
“I don’t want to live a life with regrets. So, as soon as I realised that this was a genuine opportunity, I thought, you know what, I’ll always regret it if I don’t do it.”

Martin and ShiMasked Singer was ‘so nerve-racking’

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Kemp has described his stint on ‘The Masked Singer’ with wife Shirlie Kemp as very “nerve-racking”.
The Spandau Ballet star and his spouse – who was a backing singer in Wham! and one half of Pepsi and Shirlie – confessed it was the most “nervous” either of them had ever been performing, despite their decades long music careers.
While on air at Greatest Hits Radio on Sunday (15.01.23), Martin, 61, said: “I’ve never done anything so nerve-racking in my life. I was more nervous. I could literally hear my heart in my ears.”
Martin – who has starred in West End productions like ‘Chicago’ – doesn’t see himself as a great vocalist but loves the “endorphin rush” of singing.
The bassist said: “I’ve never thought of myself as a singer but I love doing it because when you sing at the top of your lungs you get this incredible endorphin rush. That’s why people sing at football and sing in church.”
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor also revealed that it is tough singing in the costume, because you get so hot.
He said: “It’s so much harder to sing in the mask than you imagine it will be. You can only spend three minutes at the most in that mask… it’s so hot.
The pair revealed they went on the Joel Dommett-helmed show to “embarrass” their two children, daughter Harley, 33, and son Roman Kemp, 29.
Roman – who hosts the Capital FM breakfast show – was disgusted at himself for screeching “take it off” to his parents when the reveal was made on Saturday (14.01.23).
After finding out the top secret news, he tweeted: “ARE YOU F****** JOKING #MaskedSingerUK I JUST SHOUTED THE PHRASE “TAKE IT OFF” TO MY PARENTS I CANT UNDO THAT #MaskedSingerUK.”

Dominic Brunt used Emmerdale connection to cast John Henshaw in Wolf Manor movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Dominic Brunt used his ‘Emmerdale’ connection to convince John Henshaw to star in ‘Wolf Manor’.
The 52-year-old actor – who has played Paddy in the ITV since 1997 – worked as the director on the British horror, which stars the ‘Early Doors’ actor as a pub landlord who warns a vampire film crew heading to an abandoned house in the English moors to leave while they can.
The writers Joel Ferrari and Pete Wild suggested Henshaw, 72, for the role at the start of production on the werewolf flick and so Brunt called up his former ‘Emmerdale’ co-star to convince him to take the part with the promise of a driver and an easy day’s work.
Henshaw played Ezra Dingle – Zak Dingle’s brother – on the series back in 1999 when Brunt was a couple of years into his still on-going stint as vet Paddy.
Brunt said: “John Henshaw was brilliant. We would have liked to have got him in more.
“I knew John from years ago when he was a Dingle, he played Ezra Dingle, so I went, ‘I know John, I’ll just ask him.’ I said, ‘If we get you a car from your house in Manchester and get you down here for the night, get your stuff filmed, you’ll be back in bed that same night.’ That was really lucky.”
‘Wolf Manor’ also stars James Fleet – famous for his roles in ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, ‘Father Brown’ and ‘Kevin and Perry Go Large’ among other parts.
Fleet, 70, portrays Oliver Lawrence, an aging stage and screen actor who became famous for playing a vampire in several low-budget horrors which have achieved cult status in east Asia, a fact which the fictional film crew are trying to cash in on.
Brunt admits that he and the writers instantly thought Fleet would be the perfect performer to bring Lawrence to life and they were delighted when they were able to land their first choice actor for the role.
He said: “James Fleet was the first person they thought of and he was the first person we asked and he said yes straight away, it usually doesn’t work like that at all.
“They kept saying, ‘We need somebody like James Fleet.’ So I was like, ‘We should just ask James Fleet.’ I really liked the script when I read it, I thought it was really funny, and I knew why they were thinking of James Fleet.”
As well as Fleet and Henshaw ‘Wolf Manor also stars Jay Taylor and Thaila Zucchi, with Morgan Rees-Davies playing The Beast, a killer lycanthrope on the hunt.
It is available on DVD and as a Digital Download now.

Aunjanue Ellis to star in Caste adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Aunjanue Ellis is to star in the film adaptation of ‘Caste’.
The 53-year-old actress has been cast in the lead role in the movie that is inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s best-selling book ‘Caste: Origins of Our Discontent’.
The tome was described in The New York Times newspaper as “an instant American classic and almost certainly the keynote non-fiction book of the American century thus far” following its publication in 2020.
The book, and subsequently the film that is written and directed by Ana DuVernay, examines the system of hierarchy that has shaped the United States.
DuVernay is also producing the project alongside frequent collaborator ARRAY Filmworks’ Paul Garnes. Production began in Georgia last month with additional filming due to take place in Germany and India.
Ellis was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the film ‘King Richard’ – in which she starred as Venus and Serena Williams’ mother Oracene Price.
She is also due to star in the new adaptation of ‘The Color Purple’ and the period drama ‘The Nickel Boys’.
The actress revealed that she had “very little” knowledge of the Williams family before appearing in ‘King Richard’, which starred Will Smith in the lead role as Richard Williams and told the story of how he made his daughters into tennis greats.
Aunjanue said: “What I knew of them was what anybody would know about them, just from what’s in the media and what’s in the press.
“I had a very superficial knowledge of who they were, but I saw this famous interview that they did on ’60 Minutes’ when they were still young girls, and I will never forget that.
“I just remember the feeling of promise that I had watching that. I just felt so excited about who these young girls would become.”

James Cameron had to convince Leonardo DiCaprio to take Titanic role

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron had to “twist” Leonardo DiCaprio’s arm to get him to star in ‘Titanic’.
The 68-year-old director helmed the 1997 blockbuster that featured DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead roles but revealed that he had to convince the former to appear in the film – which proved a monumental success – as he thought that the screenplay was “boring”.
James told People magazine: “He didn’t want to do a leading man. I had to really twist his arm to be in the movie. He didn’t want to do it. He thought it was boring. (He) accepted the part only when I convinced him that it was actually a different challenge.”
‘Titanic’ remains one of the highest-grossing movies ever made and Cameron recently claimed that he “can’t imagine” the flick without its two leading lights.
The ‘Avatar’ helmer said: “I think about casting Leonardo and Kate in ‘Titanic’. Leo, the studio didn’t want him; I had to fight for him.
“Kate really liked him. And then Leonardo decided he didn’t want to make the movie. So then I had to talk him into it.”
James continued: “You think at any one of those places, if that had really kind of frayed apart, it would have been somebody else and it wouldn’t have been that film. And I can’t imagine that film without him and without her.”
Cameron recently revealed that DiCaprio almost lost the role in the audition process due to a poor attitude in a screen test with Winslet.
The filmmaker said: “I shook his hand and said, ‘Thanks for coming by.’ And he said, ‘Wait, wait, wait. If I don’t read, I don’t get the part? Just like that?’
“And I said, ‘Oh yeah. Come on. This is a giant movie that is going to take two years of my life, and you’ll be gone doing five other things while I’m doing post-production. So, I’m not going to f*** it up by making the wrong decision in casting. So, you’re going to read, or you’re not going to get the part.'”
