Netflix ‘to make Jill Dando documentary’

OHMYGOSSIP — A new documentary about the unsolved murder of Jill Dando is coming to Netflix.
The BBC presenter was shot dead on her doorstep in Fulham, West London, in 1999 at the age of 37, but her killer has remained at large ever since.
It is now hoped that a new documentary from the streaming giant – who has also explored other British mysteries, such as the disappearance of Madeleine McCann – could “produce new information” as the cold case approaches its 25th anniversary.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “Netflix docs have a reputation for producing new information which changes the way major crimes from the past are viewed. So hopes will be raised that they may produce something similar as they revisit the murder of a much-loved figure whose demise shocked the nation.”
During her time at the BBC, Jill became known as the host of shows such as ‘Holiday’ and ‘The BBC One O’Clock News’ and towards the end of her life she had been presenting ‘Crimewatch’.
While local man Barry George was convicted for her murder in 2000 and jailed for life, he was acquitted in 2008 and the case has remained a mystery ever since, despite more than 2,000 potential suspects being linked.
The new documentary is to be produced by Empress Films and is being directed by Marcus Plowright – who also explored the notorious crimes of serial killer couple Fred and Rosemary West through the 2021 series ‘Fred and Rose West: Reopened’ for ITV – and is executive produced by Emma Cooper, who examined the death of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in 1962 through the 2022 Netflix documentary ‘The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.’

Will Smith to return for Aladdin sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Smith is to reprise his role as the Genie in the ‘Aladdin’ sequel.
The 54-year-old star is being lined up by Disney to return for the live-action sequel in one of his first roles since he slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars last year.
It is said that Will’s Genie will be playing an even bigger part than he did in the original 2019 movie.
The script for the sequel is currently being written and it is hoped that filming could begin at the end of the year.
A movie insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “This would be one of the first movies Will has shot since the Oscars slap and it is quite surprising, given that it will be for a kids’ film.
“He has done a lot of work on himself and the consensus is that it will all be very much in the past by the time the movie is released.
“The first film was a huge success so it would be silly not to make another, and it would be a real shame to have to re-cast Will over what happened.
“So Disney is keen to stand by him and bring him back into the fold.”
The first movie was directed by Guy Ritchie and made over £800 million at the box office and starred Mena Massoud, who played Aladdin, said last month that he was eager to return for a sequel.
The 31-year-old actor said: “There was a change with the writers, and they are working on a new draft. If ‘Aladdin 2’ happens, that’s fantastic. It should happen.
“It’s not going to be based off the animated version. This is going to be a new original story.”

Bruno Tonioli confirmed as David Walliams’ replacement on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Tonioli has been confirmed as David Walliams’ replacement on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
He had been rumoured earlier this month to be have joined the judging panel of the ITV show, but the line-up was officially announced on Tuesday (24.01.23) evening.
Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Bruno, 67, said in a statement: “Here we are, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. I am so excited. It’s my first show, I have no idea what’s going to happen, but I’m sure it’s going to be brilliant.”
His new job was also revealed during clips of the taping of the first auditions for the new series of ‘BGT’.
Hosts Ant and Dec welcomed Bruno into the London Palladium auditorium alongside fellow judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
A clip of the taping posted on Twitter saw Dec telling fans: “Please give a huge London Palladium welcome to your four judges for this afternoon. They are Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli!”
Ant added: “First of all, before we get underway, can we say a massive welcome to Bruno!”
Comedian David Walliams, 51, left the judging panel after 10 years on the show, and issued a public apology in November for making “disrespectful comments” about contestants during filming for the show.
He said: “These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”
It’s been reported Bruno will be paid around £850,000 for his new job, and he was said to have still been ironing out his deal on Friday.

Ekin-Su Culcologlu eyes Coronation Street or Hollyoaks role

OHMYGOSSIP — Ekin-Su Culcologlu wants a role in ‘Coronation Street’ or ‘Hollyoaks’.
The ‘Dancing On Ice’ contestant shot to fame in the UK when she appeared on ‘Love Island’ last year, but in 2020, she played Isil, a London-based photographer in Turkish drama series ‘Kuzey Yildizi Ilk Ask’, and she’s keen to put her reality TV days behind her and return to acting, with a role in a British soap at the top of her list.
Speaking on ‘Ekin-Su Joe Garratt Reddit Talk’, she said: “Obviously coming from a background of acting, I would love to get back into that. I mean that’s the first thing I want to do as soon as ‘Dancing on Ice’ has come to an end and I have some free time.
“The first thing I’m gonna do is get myself on an English soap, I would love to do that. I’ve done it in Turkey, why not here, bring it on!
“Let’s get ourselves into ‘Corrie’, ‘Hollyoaks’, any of that stuff. I will be happy to play any character, I’m happy to play a serial killer as well.”
Meanwhile, Ekin-Su recently admitted she’d “love” for her boyfriend, Davide Sanclimenti, to also take part in ‘Dancing On Ice’.
Asked if she could convince Davide to do the show one day, Ekin-Su quickly said: “He’s going to”.
She then added: “He would love to. He would love to do it this year actually, but everything happens for a reason. But I could see him on it, 100 per cent. And I’ll be rooting for him because I’ve been through it myself.”
Ekin-Su praised Davide for being “really supportive” with her training on the show.
She said: “Some days I’ll come home and I’ll be like, ‘I’m so tired’, and he’ll be like ‘Baby, come on, you have to have energy tomorrow. You’ve got Dancing on Ice, you’ve got a good partner.’ I’m like, ‘Where have you come from?’ He’s so supportive.”

Willem Dafoe and Peter Sarsgaard join Pet Shop Boys cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Willem Dafoe and Peter Sarsgaard have joined the cast of ‘Pet Shop Boys’.
The pair will appear in the romantic thriller alongside newcomers Dario Yazebek Berna and Jack Irv, who will lead the cast in their roles as two young guys who have an affair while exploring the New York underbelly.
Olmo Schnabel – whose father is filmmaker and painter Julian Schnabel – will make his big screen directorial debut with the motion picture.
Schnabel told Variety: “Someone once said, ‘If you can’t surprise yourself, how can you expect to surprise anyone else,’ and I am absolutely surprised.
“This film always seemed like an impossibility or like something that was unachievable.
“We all made something with love that I think will be very special. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have been able to collaborate with so many talented people.”
‘Pet Shop Boys’ tells the story of pet shop employee Jack – portrayed by Irv – who embarks on an affair with Alejandro (Bernal).
Louis Cancelmi, Emmanuelle Seigner, Jordi Molla, Camille Rowe, Angela Sarafyan, and Maribel Verdu will also appear in the movie.

“Many films try to capture this, but with Olmo’s lived experience, sensibility, and perceptive eye we believe he is telling a specific story that will resonate for a generation.
“I enthusiastically decided with my partner, Gabriele, to come on board. Working with this amazing group of talented young professionals was so stimulating and fun.”

Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Ackroyd set for roles in Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — The surviving cast members of ‘Ghostbusters’ will appear in the ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ sequel.
Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Dan Ackroyd are among the stars from the 1984 classic who will be feature in the next movie in the franchise, with filmmakers planning to shift the action from New York to London.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Studio bosses are taking a classic franchise, setting it in a new location but keeping the magic of the original. It’s going to be brilliant.
“’Ghostbusters’ has always been synonymous with New York, but to mix things up this time the team was thinking of other great cities with a haunted history.
“London is perfect. It gives so much license to look back at classic landmarks and British history, but still in an urban setting.
“The plans look very cool, and getting the original stars interested wasn’t difficult. They all love the movies and look back at them very fondly.”
The news comes a month after it was announced Gil Kenan will be directing the sequel, with ‘Ghostbusters Afterlife’ filmmaker moving into a writer-producer role.
Gil said: “It’s an absolute honour to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga.
“I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a ‘Ghostbusters’ film.”
Jason – the son of the late ‘Ghostbusters’ director Ivan Reitman – said: “A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1, and together we made ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’.
“Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive.
“I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me.”
‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ cast members Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Carrie Coon are all set to return for the new movie.

Maya Jama ‘not expected to return as host of Glow Up’

OHMYGOSSIP — Maya Jama isn’t expected to return as the host of ‘Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star’.
The ‘Love Island’ presenter took the reins on the BBC Three show from Stacey Dooley for the third and fourth series, but she is said to have made the “really difficult decision” not to return for another run.
An insider said: “Maya loved her time hosting ‘Glow Up’ for the last two series but has decided now not to return for another run.
“It was a really difficult decision but she’s going to be really busy doing two series of Love Island this year, and couldn’t make it work.”
Demand for Maya’s presenting services is said to have “gone through the roof” following her impressive start on ‘Love Island’.
The insider added to The Sun Online: “She’s also gone down such a storm on ‘Love Island’ that demand for her has gone through the roof and her diary outside of filming the show is absolutely jam-packed.
“The BBC were gutted to lose her and are now on the hunt for her replacement.”
Maya recently admitted she hopes presenting the ITV2 dating show will open “way more doors” for others from “similar backgrounds and cultures” as her.
The 28-year-old TV star – who was born to a Somali father and Swedish mother – said: “Growing up, I never saw an East African woman host a show, and no Black or mixed-race woman hosts such a big primetime TV show, other than June Sarpong.
“This is definitely a big moment for all of us in that sense, and I hope it just opens way more doors for other people from similar backgrounds and cultures as myself.”

Keith Harris’ daughter lands Emmerdale role

OHMYGOSSIP — Keith Harris’ daughter has landed a role in ‘Emmerdale’.
Kitty Harris – whose father is the late ventriloquist, who passed away in 2015 aged 67 – has filmed a “very small part” on the ITV soap, and she is said to have “really impressed” in the Dales.
An insider said: “Kitty is very talented and is just waiting for her big break on TV.
“She has got a very small part on the soap and has really impressed everyone.”
The 22-year-old singer and actress has also been getting acting industry advice from former ‘Emmerdale’ star Hayley Tamaddon, who played Del Dingle on the ITV soap from 2005 to 2007.
The insider added to The Sun newspaper: “She recently worked alongside Hayley Tamaddon in panto, so has been turning to her for advice on the business.”
Kitty is no stranger to the small screen, having appeared on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in 2019.
During her appearance, she sang song ‘With You’, from the film ‘Ghost’, in tribute to her late father, who is best known for working with puppet Orville.
Speaking to ‘BGT’ judges during auditions in Manchester at the time, she said: “I’m sort of doing this for me but half for my dad too, the late Keith Harris.
“He heard me sing but always used to tell me to shut up!
“This is something I want to do for him, to be able to perform on stage like he did.”
Following her performance, panellist Simon Cowell said: “Well that takes guts. As a tribute to your dad you couldn’t have picked a better song.
“I could hear you choking up in those moments. After I lost my mum and dad I got to a point where I could talk to them, which I do every day.
“When you get to that point you can have that conversation and your dad will think that’s absolutely amazing.”

Madonna’s biopic axed after pop star announces world tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna’s biopic has been axed after the pop star announced her world tour.
The 64-year-old star was set to direct the much-anticipated biopic – which had Julia Garner as its lead – but the project has been put on hold after Madonna announced her ‘Celebration’ tour.
The fate of the film was thrown into doubt after Madonna confirmed that she was hitting the road, according to Variety.
Despite this, the chart-topping star – whose previous film credits include ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ and ‘Evita’ – is keen to revive the project at a later date.
Madonna previously admitted that writing the script for the biopic had been a “challenging experience”.
She said: “Writing my script is the most draining, challenging experience I’ve ever had.
“It’s kind of like psychotherapy in a way, because I have to remember every detail from my childhood till now.
“Remembering all the things that made me decide to be who I am, my journey as an artist, my decision to leave Michigan to go to New York, all the things that happened to me when I was young and naive, my relationships with my family and friends, watching many of my friends die.”
Madonna also found the writing process to be a very emotional experience.
The ‘Like a Prayer’ hitmaker shared: “Sometimes, I have writing sessions where I go to bed and I just want to cry.
“The thing is, I realise I forgot a lot of things, and reliving, digging deep, trying to recall emotions that I felt in certain moments, both joyful and traumatic experiences. I realise I’ve lived a crazy life … But I would find myself at night, lying there in bed, thinking, ‘My God, did that really happen to me? Did I really know that person?'”

Craig Revel Horwood thinks Fleur East was ‘robbed’ of Strictly win

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood thinks Fleur East should have won ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The show’s judge admitted he thinks the ‘Sax’ hitmaker and her professional partner Vito Coppola were “robbed” of victory because she was “absolutely extraordinary”, though he acknowledged eventual winners Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał were also “spectacular”.
Spealong on the ‘Magic Breakfast’ show, Craig told hosts Ronan Keating and Harriet Scott: “Fleur, can I say this on Magic darling, she was robbed, there you go that’s just me.
“I mean I absolutely love Fleur…for me in the final anyone could have won, I think Hamza did an absolutely spectacular job and he had all the audience behind him which is really important as well.
“But I thought Fleur really came out of her shell and she was absolutely extraordinary. And I’m not just saying that!”
The 58-year-old choreographer commended Fleur for being able to get herself out of the “dance gutter” after finding herself in the dance-off on several occasions, and admitted he’s excited to see her in action on the show’s live tour.
He said: “She’s doing her Destiny’s child track which I absolutely adore. That’s one of my favourite favourite routines…she is spectacular.”
Craig has been a judge on all 20 seasons of the show and he singled out Ann Widdecombe – who was partnered by Anton du Beke in 2010 – as his all time favourite contestant.
Asked his favourite contestant, he said: “I’m going to say this because it was so much fun, it’s actually a video I keep looking at over and over and over again. Ann Widdecombe, Ann Widdecombe wins in that yellow outfit hands down, I mean she is sort of what the show is about, so that’s a great question…there’s been so many fantastic people.”

Jared Leto to star in Tron 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto has signed up to star in ‘Tron 3’.
Work on the third instalment in the sci-fi franchise is finally getting underway 13 years after the release of the sequel ‘Tron: Legacy’ in 2010 which starred the 1982 film’s lead actor Jeff Bridges alongside Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.
The title of the third film will be ‘Tron: Ares’ and reports suggest the script has been written by Jesse Wigutow while ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ director Joachim Ronning is said to be in talks to direct the film for Disney.
‘Tron: Legacy’ hit cinemas 28 years after the original film – which told the story of a computer hacker who is transported into a computer program called the Grid and forced to take part challenges.
It was directed by Joseph Kosinski, but plans for him to helm the third instalment were scrapped in 2015 after years of development. A further attempt to revive the franchise again in 2020 with director Garth Davis in charge also floundered before getting off the ground again with a push from Leto, who is also listed among the third film’s producers.
Deadline.com reports production is slated to get underway in August in Vancouver, Canada ahead of plans for a 2025 release.
Leto was seen last year starring in Marvel movie ‘Morbius’ and during an interview with Screenrant.com, the Oscar-winning actor admitted he’s a huge fan of big budget Hollywood movies and was excited to get film fans back to cinemas after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said: “I’m … a sucker for a big fun popcorn movie. I think it’s exciting that this [Morbius] is exclusively in theatres, and it’s coming out April 1, at this time where we’re having a little sense of normalcy in some parts of the world. I think that’s really nice as well.”

Aubrey Plaza proud to have no guns in Emily the Criminal

OHMYGOSSIP — Aubrey Plaza thinks it was “really cool” there were no guns in ‘Emily the Criminal’.
The 38-year-old actress played the lead role in the 2022 thriller and she is “kind of proud” of the fact the movie deliberately stayed away from firearms in order to amp up the tension.
Speaking on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, she said: “There are no guns in the movie. I think that’s a really cool, kind of weird thing about the film.
“Because most thrillers introduce guns, like, immediately.
“It’s an unconscious thing, I think, for the audience to watch that movie and not even realise ‘Oh, there’s no guns.’
“But I think it actually makes it more, kind of, anxiety inducing because you’re like ‘How is she gonna take these guys down without a weapon like that?’ ”
Aubrey insisted there is no need for such films to rely on guns to provide drama.
She added: “I don’t think you need guns – we don’t need guns in every movie.”
Meanwhile, the actress previously admitted she acted “insane” around Robert De Niro when they starred together in ‘Dirty Grandpa’ because she tried to stay in character as Lenore, who wanted to sleep with the veteran actor’s alter ego Dick.
She said: “I didn’t really have a relationship with him off camera because he’s him.
“I didn’t have time to get to know him, he shows up in a puff of smoke and there’s no chatting at the water cooler.
“By the time he’d show up, I’m in character. My character had one goal: To have sex with him. I was acting totally insane as the character because we were about to shoot. I don’t think he understood that wasn’t me. You’d think he would because he’s an actor and an amazing one.”
Aubrey was so convincing, her co-star didn’t recognise her when she arrived for a lunch he hosted, no longer in character.
She recalled: “I showed up and he’s like, ‘Who are you sweetheart?’ and after that he was normal. At first I think I came on really strong. I did some questionable things I wouldn’t do anymore.”

Helen Skelton says ‘it’s difficult’ to swap partners for Strictly tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton says it’s “really difficult” not to be dancing with Gorka Marquez on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ tour.
The 39-year-old TV presenter danced with Gorka on the last series of the BBC show – coming in as runners-up to winner Hamza Yassin – but the professional dancer has been unable to join her on the tour so she’s now dancing with Kai Widdrington instead.
She told The Sun newspaper she misses her former dance partner, saying: “It’s really difficult not to be with Gorka because we’re such good friends. I’ve been asking him for advice a lot, so it feels like he’s here. I’d have loved for him to do it, but it’s almost like he’s in the group.”
It’s been a big change dancing with Kai – who is much taller than Gorka – but Helen insists she’s lucky to have him as her new partner.
She added: “It’s such a tight knit group in the studio anyway. We all talked and all had a laugh. so it’s different, but it wasn’t a worry and like ‘oh my god what’s going to happen’.
“We knew each other from the series, we all hung out and spoke a lot. I was very lucky Kai was able to do it.”
Helen went on to insist she feels proud to have been a part of the beloved BBC talent show, adding: “The great thing about Strictly is it connects with lots of people in lots of different ways.
“I’m very lucky in my career to do jobs that do exactly that. That’s the best thing about telly – you can make telly that you’re proud of and that people connect with and share a moment with and that’s what Strictly does in spades.”

Selina Scott says working on BBC’s Breakfast Time was like a ‘war zone’

OHMYGOSSIP — Selina Scott says presenting the BBC’s ‘Breakfast Time’ was like working in a “war zone”.
The 71-year-old broadcaster “politely declined” taking part with 40th anniversary celebrations of the BBC’s landmark morning offering – which debuted in 1983 and was later rebranded as ‘BBC Breakfast’- due to feeling like a “combatant in a war zone” when she sat on “the hideous red sofa” amid friction with her colleagues and a close encounter with the late Jimmy Savile, whose targeting of young vulnerable women came to light after his death in 2011.
She wrote in a column in the Daily Mail newspaper: “I politely declined [to take part in the ‘BBC Breakfast’ celebrations]. This despite the fact that I had launched the BBC’s ‘Breakfast Time’ in 1983 as the lead female anchor and became the face of the programme for three years.
“I said no because I prefer to look forward rather than back, but also because so much of my time on the hideous red leather sofa made me feel I was a combatant in a war zone.”
Selina – who joined the programme from the ‘News At Ten’ on ITN aged 31 – admits she didn’t get on with her co-host Frank Bough who she branded “Machiavellian”.
She added: “Looking back, I think Frank had an insecurity which dictated much of his attitude towards me. I must have appeared to him young and carefree, with my whole future ahead of me. He – regarded as a consummate television professional, who had made a serious gamble by moving from ‘Grandstand’, BBC’s flagship sports programme, to the fluffy, unknown world of breakfast TV in his 50s – didn’t know how long his career had to run.”
She also opened up about an uncomfortable interview with Savile, writing: “It wasn’t just Frank who took liberties. Jimmy Savile saw his appearance on the show as an ideal opportunity to play the eccentric, and I knew from the off that I was in for a rough ride.
“For more than two hours, he acted like a lovesick teenager as I tried to interview him. No matter how hard I tried to deflect his smutty innuendos, he kept coming back with more ‘wink wink, nudge nudge’ suggestions.”

Love Island to add bombshells from international shows

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ is recruiting new bombshells from international versions of the show.
The ITV dating series is currently filming in South Africa with new host Maya Jama who has taken over from Laura Whitmore for the winter instalment – and now it’s been revealed the villa will be shaken up by two international new additions who have previously appeared on the show in other countries.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The two new international recruits are essentially professional bombshells and won’t just shake up the villa – they’ll blow it apart. Both of them bed-hopped, bonked and had blistering rows on their seasons of ‘Love Island’. And neither has a shred of British restraint about them.”
The publication added the pair are going to cause “serious drama” and will make for “explosive telly” – just like they did in their previous stints on ‘Love Island’.
There have been no details given on which show the pair will have previously appeared on out of 25 international versions of ‘Love Island’ which air around the globe in countries including the US and Australia.
The UK show previously tore up the bombshell rule book last summer when previous contestant Adam Collard was welcomed back into the villa. However, the decision to bring him back drew criticism from domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid over previous accusations he gaslighted love interest Rosie Williams during his previous stint on the show in 2018.
They said in a statement: “Love Island is watched by many young people and we know what a huge influence it has. Producers must make sure there is support for contestants throughout, and intervene if relationships become unhealthy or abusive.”
‘Love Island’ airs tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player in Ireland and ITV2 in the UK.
