Friday the 13th reboot in works from original director Sean S. Cunningham

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Friday the 13th’ reboot is in development.
Original director Sean S. Cunningham has confirmed that he is working on a new movie in the long-running horror franchise together with writer Jeff Locker and director Jeremy Weiss.
The franchise has been at a standstill in recent years due to a legal battle between Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller but fans have been given a glimmer of hope by Locker that Jason Voorhees could return to the big screen for the first time since 2009.
In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, he said: “Sean hired me to do a rewrite on ‘The Night Driver’ and after working closely with director Jeremy Weiss and him on that, we naturally got to talking about ‘Friday the 13th’ and ‘House’.
“Jeremy and I pitched our dream reboot of ‘Friday the 13th’ – with Sean’s blessing to keep developing it with him.”
Miller is developing the prequel television series ‘Crystal Lake’ and Locker explained that it has “reignited interest” in the franchise and expressed hope that differences the writer has with Cunningham can be put aside so the movie can come to fruition.
He said: “Obviously, the prequel TV series has reignited interest about a new film so we’re hoping the surrounding excitement will inspire both sides to come together and give us Jason on the big screen again for the first time in 14 years, but we also have a Plan B for a sequel to the original we think fans will absolutely love and should avoid any legal entanglements.”

Suranne Jones ‘fronting witch documentary for Channel 4’

OHMYGOSSIP — Suranne Jones is reportedly making a new Channel 4 documentary about witches.
The former ‘Doctor Foster’ actress is said to be teaming up with the broadcaster for a one-off special entitled ‘Suranne Jones: Witch Hunt’ which is expected to air later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Suranne is fortunate enough to pick and choose her work because she’s so box office.
“She’s always been keen to make documentaries, so what better way to start than delve into a subject she’s always been interested in?
“Suranne knows she’s not alone and believes there’s a huge viewership ready to lap up this kind of content.”
The 44-year-old star – who has also appeared in the likes of ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Gentleman Jack’ over the years – is said to be planning to travel across the UK and US for the programme.
The insider added: “She will be filming in both the UK and US, exploring real-life witches as well as notorious witches from history.”
Suranne has been open about her love for fantasy and the supernatural, particularly when it comes to literature.
She previously said: “Give me witches, wizards and vampires any day. My husband bought me the first ‘Harry Potter’ the other day.
“He said, ‘I can’t believe you read all these fantasy books and you’ve never read Harry Potter.’ ”
Meanwhile, Suranne also enjoyed holidays at Headland Hotel in Cornwell – the location for 1990 movie ‘The Witches’, which is based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name – as a child.
And while she is open to exploring other projects, she previously admitted she had turned down the idea of turning to reality TV with a stint on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
She explained “I love watching ‘Strictly’, but I don’t think I could handle the pressure.
“The professionals are so amazing and that’s what makes it so wonderful to watch.”

Rita Simons undergoes hysterectomy

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Simons has undergone a hysterectomy.
The 45-year-old actress – who has twin girls Jaimee and Maiya, 16, with her ex-husband Theo Silverston – went under the knife after seeing a consultant about her “debilitating” periods.
But after trying a mixture of hormones, which didn’t work for her, she was left with the op as the “only option”.
Rita – who previously played Roxy Mitchell in ‘EastEnders’ – said: “I was in panto and I got to the point where I was telling my agent not to book me on dates where I knew I’d be on my period, because it was so difficult to work. It was debilitating and I knew I couldn’t go through that every month.
“My emotions got completely freaked out every month. It got to the point where I must have five days a month where I’m OK and then I start ovulating again and it’s all downhill.
“Health comes first.”
Rita underwent a total radical hysterectomy, which saw her womb, cervix and both ovaries taken out, after her doctor informed her: “The only option is to remove everything.”
The star, who started dating former actor Ben Harlow before lockdown 2020, says a hysterectomy has felt like an “attack” on her femininity, but she accepts it was for the best.
She added to OK! magazine: “I feel like it’s all been an attack on my femininity but my good mental health is good for my kids, it’s good for Ben. They have felt my wrath when I’m premenstrual and they don’t deserve it.”
In February 2021, Rita told how she was is in a “whole world of pain” because of scoliosis – abnormal twisting and curvature of the spine – and “desperately” wanted an operation to sort it out.
She said at the time: “I hate my scoliosis with a passion. It’s definitely getting worse and it makes everything I wear weird.
“I had an X-ray not that long ago and my spine is a big old S now, and I’m in a whole world of pain most of the time.
“I work out everyday and I’m so grateful I have a gym at home. It’s so important to keep training when you have scoliosis – but in the right way.
“I do loads of strengthening and physio for the curve in my spine and it keeps me out of pain when I’m strict with my training.”

Violent Night 2 team have ‘really cool idea’ to expand the story

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Violent Night 2′ could see David Harbour’s Santa Claus explore the North Pole.
The festive horror comedy is getting a follow-up with writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller returning alongside producer Kelly McCormick and director Tommy Wirkola, and the team already has some big plans.
The filmmaker told The Wrap: “We have time to really crack the script and figure out the story.
“And we have some ideas, me, Pat and Josh and the producers. We’ve been talking about where we want to take it and what we want to see.
“There is stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves, but story-wise I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope, but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.”
Wirkola added that the follow-up – which will see David Harbour return as Santa Claus – will definitely happen, and the team is currently “just making deals and getting everything in order”.
Last month, McCormick revealed: “We’re working on a lot of originals right now. We are also working on a ‘Nobody 2’.
“We’re hoping to start working on a ‘Violent Night 2,’ if everything goes well the next few weeks.
“We have a tendency to just keep our heads down and focus on what’s in front of us, or near. So yeah, that’s kind of it. We’re in it. We still have two and a half months of work to do on this one.”
Meanwhile, ‘Stranger Things’ star Harbour previously admitted he “teared up” at the the script for the Christmas movie.
He said: “I thought that was really special, really unique. And when I read it in the script, it made me tear up at the end and I thought, ‘Wow, that’s special’.
“Because, a lot of scripts, it’s hard enough to get through them. This one I got through, and at the end in those scenes with him and her where he’s saying, ‘I better get going now,’ it made me tear up and I was like, ‘Oh, this could be really special if we get it right.’
“But I still, at that time, thought it was a big swing, and it was going to be real hard. We had to go to work real hard on it, and we did. But that was what made me want to do it, that it was so unique, and even though it was a big action movie, I got emotional at the end.”

Kevin Feige: Big screen comic book adaptations can go on for years

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Feige doesn’t think people will tire of superhero movies.
The Marvel Studios president, 49, says non-comic book readers “don’t understand” that films can be adapted from the material and stay relevant in the same way that movies are made from books.
He said: “I’ve been at Marvel Studios for over 22 years, and most of us here at Marvel Studios have been around a decade or longer together.
From probably my second year at Marvel, people were asking, ‘Well, how long is this going to last? Is this fad of comic book movies going to end?’
“I didn’t really understand the question. Because to me, it was akin to saying after ‘Gone With the Wind,’ ‘Well, how many more movies can be made off of novels? Do you think the audience will sour on movies being adapted from books?’
“You would never ask that because there’s an inherent understanding among most people that a book can be anything. A novel can have any type of story whatsoever. So it all depends on what story you’re translating. Non-comic readers don’t understand that it’s the same thing in comics.”
Feige – who is also the primary producer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise – admitted it is a “great privilege” to be able to adapt Marvel comics, which began in 1939, into films.
He added: “There’s 80 years of the most interesting, emotional, ground-breaking stories that have been told in the Marvel comics, and it is our great privilege to be able to take what we have and adapt them.
“Another way to do that is adapting them into different genres, and what types of movies we want to make.”
Feige believes if the movies are made “right” then there’s no reason why comic book adaptations wouldn’t be able to continue for a long time.
He added to ‘The Movie Business Podcast’: “I found that if we tell the story right, and we adapt them in a way that the audience still – knock on wood so far – is following us along 22-plus years later … we can [make] any types of movies that share two things: the Marvel Studios logo above the title and a seed of an idea from our publishing history.”

Emma Roberts shocked by Madame Web casting

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Roberts was stunned to be cast in ‘Madame Web’.
The 31-year-old actress will star in the new movie in Sony’s Spider-Man universe and claims that the opportunity to feature in the film came as a huge surprise.
In an interview with Collider, Emma said: “I thought it was very unexpected. It’s so funny, one day you’re walking around your house, and then you get a phone call that they want to meet you for a Marvel movie.
“It was so weird because I remember being like, ‘What’s the audition process? What do I have to do?’ And then I talked to the director, and I was in Boston a couple (of) weeks later filming, and we had a lot of fun on it.”
She added: “It’s obviously such an amazing cast, and it’s such a unique take on a Marvel movie. So I’m really excited for people to see it because I think it’s going to be very unexpected, how they tell the story.”
Dakota Johnson is starring in the title role and will be joined in the cast by Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor and Tahar Rahim. S.J. Clarkson is directing the film which is scheduled for release in February 2024.
In the comic books, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman who is connected to a life-support system that resembles a spider’s web.
Dakota has pledged to bring “heart” to her performance by drawing on her work on small-scale films.
She said: “I guess having experience on all tiers of films I can bring maybe some stuff from the little movies to the big movies that I want to see in them, you know? I really love seeing large-scale films that still have heart in them.
“People from ‘Cha Cha (Real Smooth)’ and some from ‘Am I Okay?’ are coming on to ‘Madame Web’ with me. It’s cool. It’s fun to be able to start creating a real team of people that make movies.”

Ethan Hawke to direct daughter Maya Hawke in Wildcat

OHMYGOSSIP — Ethan Hawke is directing his daughter Maya Hawke in the film ‘Wildcat’.
The 52-year-old is working on the movie based on the life of novelist Flannery O’Connor and the biopic will star Maya as the Southern writer.
‘Wildcat’ will follow O’Connor as she struggles to get her first novel published. A devout Catholic from Georgia, she is invited to the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
The author was famous for her fiction about the American South and her faith but she was plagued by lupus for much of her life and died aged just 39. Her work continues to be read, studied and admired.
Principal photography on the project started earlier this month in Louisville, Kentucky.
Ethan, who has the actress with his ex-wife Uma Thurman, said: “Maya has been working hard for years to put this project together, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to introduce a new generation of filmgoers to the genius of Flannery O’Connor.
“Her work explores themes important to all artists – the intersection of creativity and faith, the blurred relationship between imagination and reality.”
‘Wildcat’ will also star Cooper Hoffman, Laura Linney, Philip Ettinger, Rafael Casal, Steve Zahn, Willa Fitzgerald, Alessandro Nivola and Vincent D’Onofrio.
Ethan and his wife Ryan are to produce the movie for Under the Influence Productions. Maya is executive producing the flick along with Eric Groth and David Kingland of Renovo Media Group.
Kingland said: “The opportunity to work with the Hawkes to tell the story of struggle, imagination, and faith is exactly the kind of endeavour that Renovo was created to do.
“This project has brought together a unique combination of cast and crew to share Flannery O’Connor’s life and writings to fans and new audiences alike.”

Love Island’s Haris Namani ‘dumped from villa’

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Haris Namani has been dumped from the villa.
The 21-year-old TV salesman is expected to depart the ITV2 dating show as part of a dumping, and it comes just hours after a video emerged that appeared to show Haris punch another man in a street brawl.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Haris was booted off ‘Love Island’ last night.
“There was a dumping and he got the chop.
“It is, in part, a relief for the show’s bosses in light of the video of Haris in a street fight.”
But a ‘Love Island’ spokesperson said: “We would never comment on dumpings or show formats to avoid ruining the show for the viewers.”
In the clip, Haris could be heard saying “I’m not a bully”, and a watching pal says: “Go on, Haris.”
When told about the video of Haris, a show spokesperson said: “Language and behaviour in the villa is always closely monitored, and Islanders are reminded of what we consider acceptable during their time on the show.
“Extensive duty of care protocols for all Islanders includes video training and guidance covering language and behaviour.”
Last week, Haris was involved in a heated row with fellow Islander Shaq Muhammad following a game of beer pong in the villa.
The duo had to be pulled apart by the other Islanders at one point, after they disagreed about the earlier challenge.
Shaq called the TV salesman a “s*** stirrer” after Haris commented on David Salako’s kiss with Tanya Manhenga, Shaq’s partner.
David locked lips with Tanya after being dared to kiss the Islander that he fancied the most. Haris subsequently asked him about the snog, prompting Shaq to accuse him to trying to create tensions within the villa.
The row then escalated and the two lads ultimately needed to be pulled apart, as the situation threatened to get out of control.
Prior to appearing on ‘Love Island’ villa, Haris insisted he was determined to find love in the villa.
He explained: “I’ve never found love. I think this is the show that can help me.
“It’s the best opportunity for me to find the girl and find the right one. I’ve obviously not found the right one myself.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec have signed a new deal with ITV.
The Geordie presenting duo are to return to screens this year with their regular rotation of shows like ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ before presenting a special all-stars edition of ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ from South Africa, and they are “excited” to have signed up for another three years on the channel as they reach their 25th anniversary with the channel.
Ant, 47, said: “We’re so lucky to host the best entertainment shows in the world. We absolutely love our shows and we are both extremely happy and very excited to extend our relationship with ITV for another three years.”
Meanwhile, Dec, also 47, “cannot believe” they are approaching the milestone on TV as he quipped that they are “both only 30” this year.
He is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: “We can’t believe we are reaching 25 years exclusively with ITV. Especially as we are both only turning 30 this year!”
The former ‘Byker Grove’ stars – who have won the best TV Presenter award at the NTAs a total of 21 times – first presented ‘SMTV Live’ and ‘CD:UK’ with Cat Deeley in 1998 before fronting musical talent search ‘Pop Idol’ for ITV in 2001 and crowned DJ Tony Blackburn as the first-ever winner of long-running survival show ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ the following year.

Chris Packham axes TV work after suffering ‘burnout’

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Packham has axed his upcoming TV work after suffering from burnout.
The 61-year-old naturalist has been a regular face on the BBC for almost 40 years and has fronted ‘Springwatch’ since 2009, but he is taking a break from television for the next few months so he can pursue a career as an animal sculptor.
He said: “I want to get off the treadmill, [I feel] a bit burnt out. I’m not going to buy a Ferrari and run off with a 20 year old! I’ve never taken three months off work. Never. I can barely sleep I am so excited. I might have to ban [partner] Charlotte from the studio.
“I don’t want any interference or disruption, I want to get on with it. It will be good to clear my head and focus on something completely different.”
The ‘Winterwatch’ star went on to add that the inspiration for his new project – which will see him create sculptures of birds, snakes and humpback whales from his home studio – came from being forced into isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic whilst working on a project abroad, and he enjoyed being locked in a hotel room for over a week.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I can’t heat the studio so I will be in my Puffa jacket. I’m making a big nest of old duvets and I’m getting an electric blanket to keep them warm.
“I was locked in a hotel room because one of the team got COVID and I was in isolation for 10 days. I got up every morning and I was typing all day long and I thought, ‘This is good!’.”

Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen had ‘scary medical emergency’ over Christmas

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Owen had a “scary medical emergency” over Christmas.
The 48-year-old TV star – who is known for documenting her life as a shepherdess on Channel 5 reality show ‘Our Yorkshire Farm’ – is mother to Raven, 21, Reuben, 19, Miles, 16, Edith, 14, Violet, 12, Sidney, 11, Annas, nine, Clemmy, seven, and six-year-old Nancy with estranged husband Clive and revealed that during the festive period, one of their children took ill and a helicopter had to arrive at their rural North Yorkshire farm to take them to hospital.
Speaking on Times Radio, she said: “Three weeks before Christmas, we had another medical emergency on the farm. And that was a scary one whereby one of the children was taken ill and that involved a helicopter coming, the air ambulance coming to pick us up. People say it must be amazing living rural, living the way you do. That’s one of the drawbacks.'”
Last year, The Yorkshire Shepherdess and her husband announced their shock split after more than 20 years of marriage but Amanda has since moved back to the Ravenseat farmhouse, noting that it is a “useful” set up for them to continue their work.
She said: “The two farms are basically next door to each other, so it’s close enough for it to be useful, but far enough for us to have space. Whatever our personal situation, there’s a farm to run and nine children to look after so we’re just working together, making it happen.”
The initial Instagram announcement regarding their split – which came in June 2022 – said: “Clive and I are sad to confirm that we have made the difficult decision to separate This hasn’t been easy, but we both believe it’s the right choice for the future of our family. Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work on the farm and co-parent together, with our number one priority the happiness and well-being of our children.“

Danielle Harold: Pasty Kensit looks more like my mum than my actual mum!

OHMYGOSSIP — Danielle Harold thinks that Patsy Kensit looks more like her than her own mother.
The 30-year-old actress is set to bow out of her long-running role as Lola Pearce in the BBC soap opera ‘EastEnders’ after her character was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and explained that former pop star Patsy – who has arrived in Walford as Lola’s long-lost mother Emma – that she “couldn’t have asked for someone better” to play the part.
She said: “It’s scary, she looks more like my mum than my real mum actually! Oh I love her! I love her so much, I couldn’t have asked for someone better to play my mum, I really couldn’t. ‘So it’s just great, we’ve had some really good scenes together, it’s been brilliant.”
The ‘Dead Ringer’ actress went on to reflect on her 14 years in the part of hairdresser Lola – who got engaged to boyfriend Jay Brown in the episode shown on Christmas Day and is set to tie the knot with him in the coming weeks – as she noted that she will be “so sad” to say goodbye to her character after such a long time.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “14 years nearly, she becomes a little part of you. I’ll be so sad saying goodbye to her. It was really important to just keep yourself – this is what I heard from the girls [while doing research], it can be portrayed in a very grim way but it’s not always that. Until I started the storyline I didn’t realise how many people have this and how underfunded the charities are.”
Her comments come just days after Patsy – who was famously married to Oasis star Liam Gallagher from 1997 until 2007 – took to social media to share a snap of her alongside her on-screen daughter.
She wrote: “Me and my baby girl @danielle_harold end of a long day shooting [heart emoji] you Danielle!”(sic)

He told the Radio Times: “I think it really was as simple as they didn’t want a London RP accent. The ‘Big Brother’ accent was from the North East. They were like, ‘We need to go Irish or Scottish.’ I can imagine there’s an Irishman somewhere absolutely livid. It’s the dream job for me, because I get the excitement of being involved in a show like ‘Love’ Island’, but can go to the supermarket and not be recognised.”

Gogglebox’s Kate Bottley announces death of mother

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Bottley’s mother has died.
The 47-year-old reverend – who is known for appearing on Channel 4 reality show ‘Gogglebox’ over the course of five series from 2014 until 2016 – took to social media to announce that her mum Margaret had died.
Alongside a picture of herself and her mother, Kate tweeted: “She really was a smasher. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory. And we’ll take all the prayers, mass intentions and general positive thoughts we can get, thanks. (Also FYI Dry January is cancelled, she bloody loved a Bacardi and Coke) (sic)”
The former ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ star was inundated with condolences from several famous faces.
Former ‘Gogglebox’ co-star Izzi Warner said: “Sending lots of love and strength your way”, while ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ star Dawn French said she was “sending so much love” and emblazoned her comment with a heart emoji.
Kate had first alerted followers to the news that her mother was ill with an extensive Twitter thread just days before she passed.
The star noted that she had to take a funeral for a woman of the same name, who had reached the age of 98, around the time she received the news that her mum had some “scary health issues”.
She wrote: “Yesterday I did a funeral a lady, aged 98, she died in her sleep, in her own bed, she wasn’t particularly ill, just old, a golden death if you like. Me and the crem staff agreed we’d all take that when our time comes.
“Because of the virus her family weren’t able to be there, but technology means they were able to watch the service at home via web cam. But they sent hymns and music and some beautiful words. Her neighbours came. She was loved and remembered.
“It was, in many ways, a good death and a nice funeral. No tragedy, no chaos or suffering, she wasn’t too young and she had a good and full life. Not every funeral I do is like this, especially just now.
“No funerals are ‘easy’ but some are definitely tougher than others. When I get a tough funeral (suicide, a child, someone young, or a violent death) I prepare myself differently from other funerals. I make sure my diary is clear afterwards too.
“But this funeral didn’t need me to do that. So I had neglected to properly take in that the deceased shared the same name as my Mum. My Mum who just recently had some scary health news and is facing some scary treatment.’
“So when I got to the ‘We commend Margaret, Lord to your care.’ It unexpectedly got me, my throat caught a little and I ever so slightly wobbled.
“This isn’t a problem, of course, and I’m fine. No one minds a wobble. Only human eh? This is what it’s like sometimes this ministry. I don’t ever stop being me or being a daughter or a wife or a mum or anything that makes Kate, Kate.”

Netflix ‘to make Jill Dando documentary’

OHMYGOSSIP — A new documentary about the unsolved murder of Jill Dando is coming to Netflix.
The BBC presenter was shot dead on her doorstep in Fulham, West London, in 1999 at the age of 37, but her killer has remained at large ever since.
It is now hoped that a new documentary from the streaming giant – who has also explored other British mysteries, such as the disappearance of Madeleine McCann – could “produce new information” as the cold case approaches its 25th anniversary.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “Netflix docs have a reputation for producing new information which changes the way major crimes from the past are viewed. So hopes will be raised that they may produce something similar as they revisit the murder of a much-loved figure whose demise shocked the nation.”
During her time at the BBC, Jill became known as the host of shows such as ‘Holiday’ and ‘The BBC One O’Clock News’ and towards the end of her life she had been presenting ‘Crimewatch’.
While local man Barry George was convicted for her murder in 2000 and jailed for life, he was acquitted in 2008 and the case has remained a mystery ever since, despite more than 2,000 potential suspects being linked.
The new documentary is to be produced by Empress Films and is being directed by Marcus Plowright – who also explored the notorious crimes of serial killer couple Fred and Rosemary West through the 2021 series ‘Fred and Rose West: Reopened’ for ITV – and is executive produced by Emma Cooper, who examined the death of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in 1962 through the 2022 Netflix documentary ‘The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.’
