M. Night Shyamalan thrilled that younger audiences are embracing his films

OHMYGOSSIP — M. Night Shyamalan is amazed that his films are resonating with a new generation.
The 52-year-old director has been making movies for more than three decades and revealed that he feels a sense of joy that younger audiences are discovering his work.
In an interview with Screen Rant, the ‘Knock at the Cabin’ helmer said: “I was in Europe when we started to have screenings of the movie, and the influencers there, from all over the world, would come over and meet me.
“They would be shaking, and they’d come over… They’re 19 or 21, and they’d say, ‘I loved this, and I went back and watched one of your movies called ‘Signs’.’
“They weren’t even born yet! They were like, ‘I saw this movie you did, an old movie called ‘Signs’! It’s so beautiful!'”
Night continued: “Or they’d say, ‘I saw a really old movie, ‘Unbreakable!’ And they were so taken with this.
“The idea that a new generation is going to watch my movies and learn, it makes me feel so… Everything I do, I have to do at the highest level of integrity. It is a body of work that will continually be seen and seen again.”
Night’s daughter Ishana has followed him into filmmaking and the director is full of anticipation for his offspring’s exploits behind the camera.
He said: “It’s been beautiful, you know? I’ve been around long enough now. I started when I was 21, and it’s so wild. My daughter is going to start her career, at 23, in filmmaking.
“I’m like, ‘Wow, what a journey you’re about to go on!’ And of course, her journey is tied to mine in some ways. It’s a different one.”

Antonio Banderas teases another Shrek film

OHMYGOSSIP — Antonio Banderas has hinted that another ‘Shrek’ film could be made.
The 62-year-old actor reprises his role as Puss in Boots in the new spin-off movie ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ and isn’t ruling out a return to the big screen for the ogre voiced by Mike Myers.
Antonio told RadioTimes.com: “It doesn’t depend on me, normally sequels are chosen by the audience. (But) if they go to the movie theatre massively in the way that they are responding to ‘Puss in Boots’ this could lead to the possibility of another movie with Puss.”
The Spanish actor continued: “Or as the movie indicates towards the end when you see Far Far Away, they are going to visit some old friends at the end of the movie – maybe Shrek is coming back.
“I don’t know, there are many different possibilities open for these characters to continue, but that doesn’t depend on me, that is something that the audience chooses in a way.”
In the film, Puss is down to the last of his nine lives and Banderas claims that the script was shaped after he suffered a heart attack in 2017.
He said: “What really shaped the script and the story was the circumstances in which the whole entire world had to conform – COVID, kids in confinement and you cannot see our friends and all of that. But at the same time, I think it’s also my own personal experience – in 2017, I had my heart scare.
“It started as a script that was completely different. The first one we had, probably only five per cent of that one made it, so they had been creating as the world was evolving into something and they saw the possibility, in a very courageous way, to actually dare to reflect about life and death in front of an audience that is kids.”

Sky bosses want Alison Hammond for more projects

OHMYGOSSIP — Sky bosses want to keep Alison Hammond “busy” with new projects.
The broadcaster’s managing director of content Zai Bennett is delighted to be working with ITV’s daytime darling on new TV-themed quiz show ‘On Demand’ and the network is keen to work with the hugely popular star on other shows.
Speaking at the Broadcasting Press Build’s Sky event this week, Zai told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “She’s just looking for the natural next step in what she does.
“This is a nice group of people to work with and she really likes [co-stars Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett]. She’s friends with Rob and goes on holiday with him.
“I don’t think we’ve got enough to keep her busy for the whole year and we don’t really golden handcuff any of our entertainment talent, but we do keep them busy so they sort of feel ‘a bit Sky.’ ”
Zai also hyped up the new quiz show, hailing Alison’s “infectious personality” and revealing how much the live audience loved the ‘This Morning’ presenter.
He added: “Rob Beckett is hosting it and you’ve got Alison as a captain. She’s a brilliant addition to Sky.
“She has such an infectious personality. I went to the recording of the show and the audience just did not stop cheering for her throughout it.
“Josh Widdicombe looked quite put out. He’s the other team’s captain and he looked quite grumpy.”
Alison is certainly spreading her wings, and last month it was reported she has signed up to front BBC’s ‘Clear The Dancefloor’, which sees zany amateur dancers compete against one another.
An insider recently said: “The BBC thinks it’s a real coup to have scooped Alison for their shiny new show.
“She’s in hot demand right now and is typically seen as ITV talent. Alison has loads of energy and the viewers at home absolutely love her.
“She’s refreshing and fun and isn’t afraid to laugh at herself. Excitement around the new series is really building.”

Vanessa Feltz’s heart ‘snapped into a million pieces’ following split

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz’s heart has “snapped into a million pieces” following her split from Ben Ofoedu after 16 years together.
The 60-year-old broadcasting legend fought back the tears as she opened about what a “horrible shock” her break up has been, and admitted it has been a “very difficult” time.
She said: “The thing is, that my mum died at 57 years old and I have mourned her every day. She’s missed so much – now I might start crying and I hope I don’t as that would be very unprofessional.
“So, when I lived to be older than my mum, and I am older, I’m 60, I’ve been so grateful to be alive. I’ve been so grateful, because I didn’t think it was a given right? I was so pleased.
“So, I was absolutely determined to wring every ounce of happiness and fun and adventure and excitement from every day. And I really mean it, I’m not just saying it because it’s sloshy and slushy – I really mean it.
“o, when people say ‘Eurgh, you’re 60, you’re old, how do you feel?’ The answer is grateful. I feel incredibly grateful, I’m so pleased to be alive. And I’m so determined to enjoy everything I’m given to have.
“But obviously when you get a horrible shock and your heart snaps into a million pieces and you’re just thinking, ‘Oh my God,’ all that thing about enjoying every minute, it’s a gift, it’s a wonderful thing, just kind of evaporates. It’s very difficult.
“It’s hard then, because you’re on track to be appreciating every minute and you’re feeling so sad. It’s hard, isn’t it? I’m determined to do it, but it is hard. I don’t want to be derailed from it.”
Despite admitting she is determined to “keep calm and carry on”, Vanessa is “worried” about what the future holds.
She said on her TalkTV show: “I can’t be the only person in the country nursing a broken heart, can I? I am absolutely determined to put my best foot forward, to keep on trucking, all that sort of stuff. Keep calm and carry on.
“Having said all of this, obviously inside I’m feeling all sorts of things, no questions about it. Very hurt, very sad, terribly disappointed, worried about the future, all the normal stuff – of course I am.”
The TV star took to Instagram over the weekend to confirm she and Ben had split.
She wrote: “Well I haven’t been on instagram for three weeks and that’s because my relationship with Ben is over after sixteen years and I honestly didn’t know what to say to you on instagram.
“But now it’s clear that it’s over and I really do feel that once the trust in a relationship is gone then you can’t really get it back and that’s what I would tell anyone else to do.
“And so I just wanted to say that obviously I feel incredibly sad and I am pretty disappointed and shocked and all those horrible things but also full of resolve. I am not going to let this defeat me. (sic)”

Matthew Macfadyen joins Holland, Michigan cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Macfadyen has joined the cast of ‘Holland, Michigan’.
The 48-year-old actor will star opposite Nicole Kidman and Gael Garcia Bernal in the Hitchcockian thriller.
According to Deadline, Macfadyen will be directed by Mimi Cave in the Prime Video project.
The film will tell of the secrets that lurk beneath a Midwestern town and is based on a script from Andrew Sodroski, which topped the 2013 Black List, a compilation of the most-liked as-yet uncommissioned screenplays.
Kidman will also produce with Per Saari under her own Blossom Films banner.
Peter Dealbert, for Pacific View Management Productions, is also producing and Kate Churchill will executive produce.
The project sees the ‘Big Little Lies’ star Kidman join forces with Amazon Studios for the first time since her award-nominated turn in ‘Being the Ricardos’.
In that film, she played comedy legend Lucille Ball and previously admitted she didn’t fully realise how “difficult” her job would be until she started work because she had to get the star’s life on and off stage just right.
She explained: “It was two roles. Lucy Ricardo and Lucille Ball. The differences in the tone of voice, the differences in mannerisms, the differences in the performance, one’s a real woman – that’s when I went, ‘Oh my gosh, this is rich and difficult and extraordinary’.
“The recreation of Lucy Ricardo was interesting … She had life behind her eyes. When she was doing that, there was another whole life to her.
“So that’s why it’s not mimicking her, it’s going into her … I could do the movements, choreography, but where’s the life? Her eyes sparkle, and there’s a reason that’s going on. It’s not robotic, it’s very, very alive … You have to find the life.”
Macfadyen is best known for starring as Tom Wambsgans in the HBO drama series ‘Succession’, and Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright’s 2005 film ‘Pride and Prejudice’.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr set for I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are reportedly set to return for an ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ sequel.
The two stars – who appeared in the original 1997 horror movie and its follow-up the next year – are said to be returning for another sequel from Sony Pictures.
The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline have said the film is in development, while the latter two outlets have reported that the upcoming movie will be directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a script by Leah McKendrick.
It’s also said Neal H. Moritz – who co-produced the first two films and 2006’s direct to video ‘I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer’ without any of the original stars – is in discussions for a return.
The original film starred Hewitt and Prinze alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, Johnny Galecki, Ryan Phillippe and Bridgette Wilson Sampras.
They followed a group of teenagers who accidentally killed a man on their high school graduation night, and they try to cover it up.
However, one year later they find themselves being stalked by a killer wielding a hook.
As well as the movies, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ – which was based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name – spawned an Amazon Prime Video show which ran for one season in 2021.
While the series was being promoted, original cast members Hewitt, Prinze, Gellar and Phillippe surprised the reboot’s cast during a virtual New York Comic COn panel.
Hewitt jokingly referenced her final girl character Julie James’ iconic ad-libbed quote as she quipped: “If they’d asked me years ago what I thought about [a TV series], I would have of course said, ‘What are you waiting for, huh?! What are you waiting for?!’ ”

Evan Rachel Wood and Josh Gad starring in The Adults

OHMYGOSSIP — Evan Rachel Wood, Josh Gad and Anthony Carrigan have been cast in ‘The Adults’.
The trio have boarded the murder-mystery flick from director Alex Winter, which is set to open sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.
The film is about a sister and brother, Megan (Wood) and Nathan (Gad), who are barely hanging on in modern-day America when their lives are turned upside down when they discover a dead body buried in their parent’s basement. The pair are subsequently led down a rabbit hole of crime and murder.
In a statement, Winter said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Evan, Josh and Anthony on this darkly comic crime drama, which takes a sly look at the challenges we all face today, trying to survive in the modern world.”
‘The Adults’ is being produced by Winter, Scott Kroopf and Russell Hollander with Connie Tavel set to executive produce.
Evan has previously described acting as “therapeutic” as jumping into a film role helps to calm her battle with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), a neurological condition that can cause difficulties with focus.
The 35-year-old star said: “I guess this goes for acting and singing, but I have ADD, so I’m always multitasking, and thinking about a million things at once. And I talk really fast, and I’m jumping around from topic to topic.
“When I’m acting, I’m not thinking about anything. It is, like, the thing that makes me stop thinking. And it is the time where I am the most present. Maybe not the most present, because obviously I’m playing different characters – but the time where it all fades away. And I think I can be very socially awkward at times.”

Olivia Colman and Woody Harrelson to star in Girl from the North Country adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Colman, Woody Harrelson and Chloe Bailey are to star in the big-screen adaptation of ‘Girl from the North Country’.
Conor McPherson, the playwright behind the Broadway musical that features the songs of Bob Dylan, is writing and directing the film.
‘Girl from the North Country’ uses Dylan’s expansive back catalogue to score a Depression-set story about Midwesterners who cross paths at a turning point in their lives.
The story is set in Minnesota in 1934 and centres on a group of travellers as their lives intersect in a guesthouse.
Events are spiralling out of control for proprietor Nick Laine (Harrelson) as his wife Elizabeth (Colman) is suffering from dementia. To make matters worse, the bank is closing in on their home and their adopted daughter Marianne (Bailey) has a secret that nobody can explain.
However, when escaped convict Joe Scott (Tosin Cole) stays at the guesthouse, a relationship develops between him and Marianne that will change everything for everyone forever.
The musical got positive reviews but struggled to sell tickets post-COVID and closed after less than a year on Broadway.
‘Girl from the North Country’ also has Dylan’s seal of approval.
The 81-year-old music icon said: “To be associated with Conor is one of the highlights of my professional life.
“It goes without saying the man is a genius for putting this thing together and I’m thrilled to be a part of the experience. My songs couldn’t be in better hands. The play had me crying at the end. I can’t even say why. When the curtain come down, I was stunned. I really was.”
McPherson added: “Having Bob Dylan’s trust to create a story using his incomparable songs is a huge privilege which has brought nothing but joy to my world.
“But working with this incredible cast to bring these characters to life is almost beyond imagining.”

Seth Rogen never expected Steven Spielberg would want to work with him

OHMYGOSSIP — Seth Rogen “never imagined” Steven Spielberg would want to work with him.
The 40-year-old actor – who is best known for his comedic work – portrays ‘Uncle’ Bennie in the legendary director’s semi-autobiographical movie ‘The Fabelmans’ and he was shocked to be offered such a big role in the drama.
Asked if he ever imagined he’d star in one of Spielberg’s films, he said: “Uh… no. You know, I will say that I grew up watching a lot of those movies.
“I think there were smaller roles that would chime with me, every now and then, that would give a guy like me hope.
“I believe actually if you watch more of those older movies that I grew up with, these kind of prestige movies, comedians were kind of more [prevalent]…
“It used to be done a little bit more than it is done now. But yeah, hobnestly, on a personal level, I never imagined that Steven would have any interest in working with me.”
Seth was the first actor cast in the film and he was relieved when his ‘Take This Waltz’ co-star Michelle Williams was cast as family matriarch Mitzi Fabelman.
He told Total Film magazine: “[‘Take This Waltz’] was quite a long time ago.
“I think we’re both much more comfortable in a lot of ways.
“As soon as I heard it was Michelle, I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be fine.’
“It’s like being told you have to push a boulder up the hill and then, ‘And you’re doing it with The Rock.’ You’re like, ‘Oh this will make it easier/ he will do most of it.’
“I just knew that she’s so good, it makes it hard to be in a bad scene with her in some ways. Honestly, it made me much more comfortable.”

Taylor Lautner details ‘bizarre’ Twilight rivalry

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Lautner has called the ‘Twilight Saga’ fan rivalry “bizarre”.
When asked if the discourse around Team Jacob, referring to his character Jacob Black, and Team Edward, for Robert Pattinson’s character, Edward Cullen, got to him, he said: “I feel like I’d be lying if I said, ‘No.’”
Speaking on ‘The Toast’ podcast, he added: “I was so young, like I was 16 when ‘Twilight’ came out, 17 for ‘New Moon’ and ‘Eclipse’. I finished the franchise by the time I was 19. I was so young and yeah, I do feel like it was very strange, you know, traveling the world and being in different cities and having like thousands of screaming fans either take your side or the other guy’s side.
“We’re [Taylor and Robert] a team. Like we’re both just trying to make the best, you know, movies. But yeah, it was a little bizarre, the like competitiveness. And there wasn’t a competitiveness between me and Rob but having that constant reminder, it definitely … had an impact.”
Taylor, 30, previously admitted the ‘Twilight’ years were so intense that he often didn’t go out in public.
He said: “Not many things in life can come and happen overnight. Fame can. It also can disappear overnight. When I was 16, 17, 18 years old, waking up and trying to just go out for a walk or go on a date and I had 12 cars waiting outside my house to follow me wherever I’m going or show up to an airport or anywhere, and you have thousands of fans screaming.
“I went so many years either not leaving my house, or if I did, hat, sunglasses, and just like, scared. It built up something inside of me where, I didn’t know it, but I was scared to go out. I’d get super anxious to go out. So, I just didn’t.”

Celebrity special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire axed

OHMYGOSSIP — A celebrity special of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ has reportedly been axed after three female stars refused to work with Jeremy Clarkson.
The TV presenter sparked outrage in December when he wrote in his column for The Sun newspaper that he was “dreaming of the day” Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, would be forced to “parade naked through the streets” while crowds threw excrement and shouted “Shame” at the duchess.
And, it has now been claimed that production of the special has been halted after some female celebrities objected to Clarkson’s participation.
A source told The Mirror: “ITV were left with no choice but to postpone the show.
“The feelings were made very loud, and very clear. Namely that they didn’t want to share a platform with Clarkson and, in doing so, risk being seen to legitimise his misogynistic comments.
“They were appearing on the show to raise money for charity, and they were acutely aware that they didn’t want causes special to their heart to be caught up in any backlash. It was a no-brainer to be honest, they had to walk away.”
ITV has previously insisted that “scheduling issues” have led to the show being delayed.
Jeremy previously said he was “horrified to have caused so much hurt” and vowed to “be more careful in future”, asking The Sun to remove the column – the most complained about ever – from their website.
He later issued a more lengthy apology and revealed he contacted Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan directly.
He wrote on Instagram: “Usually, I read what I’ve written to someone else before filing, but I was home alone on that fateful day, and in a hurry. So when I’d finished, I just pressed send. And then, when the column appeared the next day, the landmine exploded.
“I therefore wrote to everyone who works with me saying how sorry I was and then, on Christmas morning, I e-mailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologise to them too. I said I was baffled by what they had been saying on TV but that the language I’d used in my column was disgraceful and that I was profoundly sorry.
“Over the last 30 years, I have written very nearly 5,000 newspaper and magazine columns, so it was inevitable that, one day, I’d do a Harry Kane and sky one of the damn things. Which is what happened with the piece about Meghan.”

Ashton Kutcher wants to ‘deliver joy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashton Kutcher wants to “deliver joy” with his work.
The ‘Your Place or Mine’ actor admitted his battle with vaculitis in 2019 has changed his outlook, and the wealth he’s made over the years means he doesn’t have to pick projects based on their pay cheques, so he can be more selective.
He told Esquire magazine: “Now I can just worry about playing roles that I want to play…
“I want to tell stories that say something. I want to tell stories that deliver people joy. And I want to deliver stories that make people think. And I want to play characters that are fun to play. And I’m willing to work my a** off to do that.”
And the 44-year-old star wants to have a good time at work.
He said: “I’m hankering to find something fun.”
While Ashton – who has daughter Wyatt, eight, and son Dimitri, six, with with Mila Kunis – can next be seen opposite Reese Witherspoon in ‘Your Place or Mine’, he almost turned down the rom-com because it was going to be filmed in Georgia during the school year.
He said: “I have young kids, and I like my kids a lot. I like spending time with them.”
But knowing the movie was to shoot in Georgia because of tax breaks offered to Hollywood productions, Ashon agreed a deal to cover the extra production costs incurred from shooting in Los Angeles out of his own salary.
Reese said: “He loves his family so deeply and really is such an incredible dad who shows up every day for his kids.
“There is no pretense. He is just very comfortable in his own skin. And did I mention he is hysterically funny?”
While the stars shared few physical scenes together, they still found ways to connect and would send one another daily videos before filming, even exchanging their views on the same book, ‘When Breath Becomes Air’.
Reese said: “We would talk about everything from our favorite football teams, stupid things our dogs did, what we were making for dinner, [to] how we felt about life in general.”

Gladiator sequel gets 2024 release date

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Gladiator’ sequel will be released on November 22, 2024.
The Sir Ridley Scott-directed sequel to the award-winning drama movie is set to start filming this year, with Paul Mescal, 26, starring.
Specific details about the film remain a closely-guarded secret. However, it has been confirmed that Paul will take on the role of Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen’s character Lucilla and the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus from the first film.
Russell Crowe has ruled out returning as Maximus in the new movie, and he also explained that it won’t be a “direct sequel”.
The 58-year actor – who played the central character in the historical drama film – said: “Yeah we’ve had dinner and talked about it and all that stuff. So I know roughly how he’s shaping the story.
“But yeah, if you remember, there was a young kid who wanted to beat the Gladiator, which leads to the ‘My name is’ speech. So that young kid has grown up, and he’s now the Emperor.
“I don’t know what else happens at that point, so that’s the idea. So it’s not a remake. And it’s not a direct sequel. It’s not like the day after, you know, 30 years later or something.”
David Scarpa is writing the script, while Ridley will produce alongside Michael Pruss via Scott Free, and Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher via Red Wagon Entertainment.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “This has been building since 2018 and for a long time it looked like it may never see the light of day.
“But suddenly late last year the production team really sprung into life after settling on a new script which seemed to inspire them.
“A few months later everything was up and running and now it’s well underway.
“They should be filming by May, which means there’s every chance the movie will be ready some time in 2024.
“Either way, this would be a huge box office draw.
“It’s one of the biggest action films of its era and was a massive hit.
“People have been asking Ridley about a follow-up for years, so there’s clearly a massive appetite for it.”

Antony Cotton wants ‘big gay Corrie wedding’

OHMYGOSSIP — Antony Cotton wants a “big gay wedding” for his ‘Coronation Street’ character Sean Tully.
The 47-year-old actor admitted he would love for his alter-ego to find his soulmate and celebrate with a huge bash on the cobbles.
According to MailOnline, he said: “Without a doubt it would be fantastic to see a big gay wedding on the street and yes it would be a lovely storyline for Sean with mishaps along the way, things getting cancelled and people not turning up but with a lovely happy day at the end.”
However, he admitted his fears that Sean finding happiness might mean a lack of interesting scripts for his character.
He said: “But there is also a flip side which is once you are settled that is when people can stop writing stories for the character. I guess it depends on what the story is, but I would definitely like there to be a wedding one day in the future that involves Sean.”
And, Sean is unlikely to get his fairytale any time soon, after hearing allegations from Todd Grimshaw that his current partner Laurence murdered his wife.
He said: “From a drama point of view this is a classic boy who cried wolf story that Todd has said everything out loud about Laurence that he could possibly say but there is always going to be that one time when something might be true.
“But of course Todd being the way he is regardless of whether things are true or not it is always about what is the motive. Todd seems to always have a motive for anything he does.
“Sean doesn’t have a motive for anything. He messes up and can be deeply irritating at times but it is never through malice.
“When Sean is on his own he starts to think about what Todd has said about how Laurence’s wife has died and Sean has been so unlucky in love that he is used to that feeling and that default mode that it is really simple and quick for him to go that place again and think the worst of Laurence.
“As soon as Todd puts a flea in his ear, about what he knows about Laurence, Sean reacts badly and tells him he’s a spiteful evil liar but the moment he gets two minutes to himself he starts thinking you know what it is probably true.”
‘Coronation Street’ airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
