Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner is still alive in Fast X

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Walker’s character is still “very much alive” in ‘Fast X’.
The late actor – who died in a car crash aged 40 in 2013 – starred as Brian O’Conner in six movies in the adrenaline fuelled blockbuster franchise with his final appearance coming posthumously in 2013’s ‘Fast and Furious 6’.
Brian has since featured in the saga and enjoyed retirement while CGI and his two brothers serving as body doubles mean his presence has still been felt.
Speaking to TotalFilm about his approach in the upcoming sequel, director Louis Leterrier said: “Well, Brian is very much alive in the world of Fast and Furious, and they’ve teased him a lot in the previous movies.
“In 9, we see the car coming. It’s something that is planned. This movie jumps back and forth between the past and the present.”
He explained that the decision was made for the character to be seen “in the past”, and he noted Walker’s family remains a huge part of the franchise.
He added: “You will see Brian in the past, you won’t see Brian in the present. It’s something that everybody has to be on board with.
“The Walker family is still very much a part of this franchise, you’ll see how in this movie. It just has to be the right moment, the right tone.”
Last year, on November 30 – the anniversary of Walker’s death – his former co-star Vin Diesel shared a poignant tribute to his late friend by sharing a throwback picture of them together on Instagram.
The actor captioned the post: “Nine years … love you and miss you.”
Paul was at the height of his fame when he was involved in a fatal car accident in Santa Clarita, California when the Porsche he was riding in along with his pal Roger Rodas collided with a concrete post and burst into flames. Both men died in the tragic crash.
After Paul’s death, Vin released a statement sharing his grief. It read: “Pablo [Paul], I wish you could see the world right now … and the profound impact, your full life has had on it, on Us … on me.”
He went on to reference his pal’s Fast and Furious character Brian O’Conner, adding: “I will always love you Brian, as the brother you were … on and off screen.”

Emma Roberts and Laurence Fishburne to star in The Astronaut

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Roberts and Laurence Fishburne are to star in ‘The Astronaut’.
The 32-year-old actress will join forces with the 61-year-old star for the sci-fi thriller, which is to be produced by Brad Fuller.
According to Deadline, Roberts is to portray astronaut Sam Walker, who is found alive in a punctured capsule floating off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
Fishburne will play General William Harris, who puts Walker in a high-security house under intense NASA surveillance after the discovery.
But she will grow concerned that something has followed her back to Earth when strange goings on start occurring.
Production on the movie is expected to begin in Ireland later this year.
Jess Varley is to make her directorial debut on the motion picture, and will also write the screenplay.
She said: “This story is very close to my heart and I’m profoundly grateful it’s resonated with such an immensely accomplished team of creatives.
“I couldn’t be more excited for audiences to fasten their seatbelts and go on this thrilling ride with us.”
Fuller added: “I was inspired by Jess’ vision and handle on the material and I’m thrilled to be working with her.”
Roberts has appeared in the likes of ‘Scream 4’ and ‘We’re The Millers’ and was recently cast in ‘Madame Web’.
The star admitted she was stunned to be cast in the new movie in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, which will see Dakota Johnson appear in the titular role.
She said: “I thought it was very unexpected. It’s so funny, one day you’re walking around your house, and then you get a phone call that they want to meet you for a Marvel movie.
“It was so weird because I remember being like, ‘What’s the audition process? What do I have to do?’ And then I talked to the director, and I was in Boston a couple (of) weeks later filming, and we had a lot of fun on it.”

EastEnders scriptwriter Tony Jordan fears for soaps: ‘They’re in very real trouble’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ scriptwriter Tony Jordan thinks soaps are in “very real trouble”.
The 65-year-old screenwriter – who has penned hundreds of episodes of the BBC One soap – fears for the future of serial dramas if they don’t “reinvent themselves”.
He said: “Soaps are in a pretty poor way. Unless they reinvent themselves, I think they’re in very real trouble.
“They need to stop and take a breath and think, ‘What does a soap look like in 2025?’ And start aiming for that.”
Among the many ‘EastEnders’ episodes Tony has written, he is known for penning ‘Pretty Baby….’ in 2008.
The episode remains EastEnders’ only ever single-hander, in which Dot Branning – who was played by the late June Brown – recorded a message for her husband Jim Branning (John Bardon) while he was in hospital recovering from a stroke.
Tony insists people used to get their gossip from characters like Dot, but says times have now changed and social media has “stolen” that space.
He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “In post-war Britain there was a sense of community. And then television took some of that away.
“In that period, we all looked at Dot Cotton and Den Watts … that’s where we got all our gossip from. Soaps fulfilled that for us.
“But now that space has been stolen by Facebook and social media. That’s where all the gossip is coming from.”
Last week, ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T. Davies admitted he fears for the future of soaps, and believes they need “radical work” to save them.
He said at the time: “How to save [soaps]? I think radical work is needed that they will never have time for.
“Like they say if you stopped the London Underground for 24 hours and moved all the trains to the right position, it would run like a dream for ever.
“It is like that for soaps. There is no time to reassess, to re-tool. You’re trapped on a treadmill and it is terrifying.”

Fawlty Towers co-creator Connie Booth claims ex John Cleese didn’t tell her about show reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Fawlty Towers’ co-creator Connie Booth has claimed she only found out about the reboot in the newspapers.
The 82-year-old actress and her ex-husband John Cleese co-wrote the iconic sitcom – which only ever ran for 12 episodes over two series from 1975 to 1979 – but the star has admitted John didn’t tell her he was rebooting the show.
She said: “I’d have appreciated learning about the project from John rather than reading about it in the papers.”
Connie was shocked to hear about a planned reboot, and “even more surprised” when she read that John will be writing and starring in the new version of the show alongside his daughter Camilla Cleese.
She added to The Times newspaper: “Because a previous American reboot of ‘Fawlty Towers’ had failed some years ago, I was surprised that another was being planned.
“I was even more surprised to read that John intends to write and to perform in it together with his daughter Camilla.”
But Connie has wished the pair well.
US sitcom ‘Payne’, which was adapted from ‘Fawlty Towers’, aired for just one season in 1999.
In ‘Fawlty Towers’, John played the part of hotel owner Basil Fawlty, while Connie – who he was married to from 1968 to 1978 – appeared as waitress Polly Sherman.
It was confirmed last week that the show is being revived by Castle Rock Entertainment, with John to write and star in the series alongside his daughter.
Matthew George, Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner and Derrick Rossi are set to executive produce the long-awaited reboot.
John said: “What I like about Matt is that, unlike many producers, he really ‘gets’ the creative process.
“When we first met, he offered an excellent first idea, and then Matt, my daughter Camilla, and I had one of the best creative sessions I can remember. By dessert we had an overall concept so good that, a few days later, it won the approval of Rob and Michele Reiner.
“Camilla and I look forward enormously to expanding it into a series.”

Naomi Ackie starring in Mother

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Ackie has joined the cast of ‘Mother’.
The 31-year-old actress is to star in the new sci-fi movie from director Justin Kurzel and joins an ensemble that includes Laura Dern, Benedict Cumberbatch and Noah Jupe.
The film is set in a near future where society has a pill that removes the need for sleep. With the added help of an artificial sun there is no end to morning daylight, living and work. But a young generation who have grown up without sleep consider rebelling to reclaim their dreams.
‘Mother’ centres on Cathy (Dern), an advocate of the sleepless world, who attempts to repair her relationship with son Danny (Jupe) as she hurtles towards the anniversary of her husband Frank’s (Cumberbatch) death.
However, the sleepless universe that Cathy helped to build is starting to crumble around her as Danny is being drawn into an underworld of dreamers.
Naomi – who has been nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award – said: “I’m so excited to get to work with Justin Kurzel and this incredible cast. The script is so beautifully written and the world building immaculate. I can’t wait to be a part of creating this piece of work!”
The star played the iconic singer Whitney Houston in the biopic ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ and revealed that it took her six months to feel “comfortable” speaking like the tragic music legend.
Naomi said: “There was many different elements: How do I prepare myself vocally, singing-wise? The accent work took about six months to get really comfortable with it.
“And how do I prepare myself physically? In terms of movement, I worked with my amazing friend and my movement coach, Polly Bennett, and we kind of split it all up.”

Paul King to direct Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul King is to direct Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire biopic.
The ‘Paddington’ filmmaker will helm the untitled Sony Pictures film that has the ‘Spider-Man’ actor attached to star as the film and dance icon of Hollywood’s golden age.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but it is known that the movie centres on the relationship between Fred and his sister Adele Astaire.
The pair were inseparable for more than 20 years and moved from a Midwestern vaudeville act in the early part of the 20th century to Broadway and London’s West End in the 1920s.
Adele was initially the face of the act but was eventually eclipsed by Fred’s consummate stage skills. The duo parted in 1932 when she married, which came as a blow to Fred.
However, it turned his focus toward Hollywood dance musicals and subsequently set him on the path to cinematic legend.
The project has been in development for several years and now has Lee Hall, who wrote the dance-centric movie ‘Billy Elliot’, rewriting the script by Noah Pink.
Amy Pascal, Rachael O’Conner, Ben Holden and Josh Hyams are all producing.
Tom has experience in the field of dance having starred in ‘Billy Elliot the Musical’ on the West End from 2008 to 2010 and has vowed to put his ability to good use in the film.
The 26-year-old actor said: “I’m quite a good tap dancer.
“It’s something I’ve done for a very, very long time so it’s something I’m sure I’ll be able to pick up.”
Tom is aware that Astaire was a far more “elegant and graceful” dancer than Billy Elliot.
He said: “Fred Astaire does have a very particular style.
“Billy Elliot was very much a kind of like scuffy boot kind of tap dancer whereas he is very elegant and graceful so I’ll probably have to learn how to do that.
“But it’s something I’m gonna practice, something I’m very excited for and I think it will be a fantastic film.”

Death in Paradise’s Kris Marshall: Beyond Paradise is ‘completely unique’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Death in Paradise’ star Kris Marshall says the way crimes are solved on new show ‘Beyond Paradise’ is “completely unique”.
The 49-year-old star reprises his role as DI Humphrey Goodman for the new ‘Death in Paradise’ spin-off show, and Kris believes the programme will be “thought provoking” for viewers, especially because he claims the way the show is shot is unprecedented.
He said: “It’s a really unique show. I don’t think it’s a show that’s been done before in terms of the way we shoot.
“Without giving too much away, the way we shoot the denouements and how we solve the crime is completely unique.
“There are a lot of laughs and there is lot of fun in the show, but I think it’s also very thought provoking. We’re maintaining that sunny disposition.”
The BBC show follows Humphrey and his fiancée Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) after their nail-biting will-they-won’t-they romance reached its emotional finale in ‘Death in Paradise’ in 2017.
Humphrey followed Martha back from Saint Marie to London to declare his undying love for her, and the programme will see the couple embark on their new life in the fictional Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, where she sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and he joins the local police force.
Kris is hoping ‘Beyond Paradise’ can have a similar effect to how ‘Death in Paradise’ has helped families to bond.
He added: “In my experience of doing ‘Death in Paradise’, when people have come up to me and said how much they enjoy the show – all over the world – they’ve often said how much it’s made them bond with members of their own family.
“Mothers and fathers have said it’s helped them bond with their teenage kids, parents have said they can bond with their parents and grandparents. It’s a family show that you can sit down and watch with everyone.
“Despite the subject matter, it’s kind of feel good. With there being many gritty and brilliant cop dramas out there, I think in our kind of shows sail down a different path and make it more fun and more tongue-in-cheek. We don’t take ourselves too seriously.”
‘Beyond Paradise’ will begin on BBC One on February 24th.

Richard Hammond: I’m terrified jet crash could have left me with dementia

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Hammond is “too scared” to get checked for dementia following his horror crash.
The former ‘Top Gear’ presenter, 53 – who fronted the BBC Two programme alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May from 2002 to 2015 – suffered a brain injury following a catastrophic car crash while filming the show in 2006.
Richard – who was left with life-changing side effects, including post-traumatic amnesia – now fears his worsening memory could be dementia caused by the high-speed smash.
Speaking on the ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast, he said: “I worry about my memory because it’s not brilliant. I can still read a script and deliver it but my long-term memory is not brilliant.
“I have to write things down and work hard to remember them sometimes. It might be the age, it might be the onset of something else. I worry about that. I do.”
The TV star admitted suffering from depression following the crash, and his wife Mindy, 57, was warned there could be an after-effect brain injury.
He added: “Mindy was told by the doctors that a frontal brain lobe injury would possibly lead to me having a greater propensity for obsessive compulsion and depression and paranoia.
“She was like, ‘You didn’t meet him before the crash, did you?’ which is quite funny.”
Richard’s horror crash came while filming an episode of ‘Top Gear’ at the RAF Elvington airfield near York, in September 2006.
Richard was driving at 319mph in a Vampire dragster – a jet-powered car that has the potential to reach speeds of 370mph – when the front right tyre unexpectedly failed, causing the motor to spin out of control and flip upside. The media personality had to be cut out with hydraulic shears before being rushed to hospital.

Match of the Day pundit Micah Richards spends 24k on haircuts during football season to ‘look fly’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Match of the Day’ pundit Micah Richards forks out £24,000 on haircuts during the football season – getting three trims a week.
The 34-year-old former footballer – who previously played for the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa – splashes out £200 to his barber for a cut because he wants to “look fly”.
When asked on CBS’ Champions League coverage this week how often he gets his hair cut, he replied: “Three times a week.”
Presenter Kate Abdo then revealed Micah flew his own barber out to Qatar during last year’s football World Cup, at which the star was a pundit.
He said: “Of course I did. I’ve got to look fly.”
Asked how much his barber costs, he said: “£200 a time. When I say the most, like I’ll get a trim tomorrow for the Champions League and I’m working the weekend so I’ll get a trim.
“He did it today. I’ve got to get a sharpen up tomorrow. I have to pay it”.
He then joked: “I should be putting it through expenses shouldn’t I?”
Micah’s shocked fellow pundit Thierry Henry asked him what the “purpose” of his multiple haircuts it.
He replied: “I’ve go to look sharp. When you look good you’re able to perform.”
Thierry replied: “You said you need to look fly … not like one.”
While that would work out at £31,200 a year if Micah had three haircuts every week of the year, he insisted it is more like 40 weeks a year, when the football season is on.
So, it is more likely he spends around £24,000 on haircuts.

Blackadder’s Sir Tony Robinson: Rowan Atkinson will be in Comic Relief sketch in some form

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Blackadder’ star Sir Tony Robinson believes Rowan Atkinson will be in the show’s Comic Relief return “in some form or another”.
Show creator Richard Curtis confirmed this week that the sitcom will be back for a charity sketch but without his co-creator and Rowan, who played the titular character Edmund Blackadder, but Tony has now revealed the script is written for his character, hapless servant Baldrick, and insisted Rowan “always contributes to Comic Relief”.
He said: “This just happens to be a script for Baldrick but Rowan always contributes to Comic Relief. I am sure he will be there in some form or another.”
Tony revealed Richard messaged him with a script for the Comic Relief sketch just a day after they reunited at an event, and the star jumped at the chance to reprise his iconic role.
He said: “It was quite extraordinary. It happened very fast. Last week I was at some posh do at Claridges, where they were celebrating the 100th anniversary of the front covers of the Radio Times and I went there to receive an award for a cover that ‘Blackadder’ had done all those years previously.
“Very early the following morning I was woken up by a text from Richard Curtis saying, ‘Lovely to have seen you,’ and it included this script for a piece for Baldrick to do and he said, ‘Would you do it?’
“It was extraordinary for me, this is a character that I haven’t played for 25 years and I suddenly got this beautifully crafted script, and I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, try and keep me away from it!’ ”
Tony believes a new ‘Blackadder’ series is probably unlikely because people may not feel as “warm” about it as they did the original episodes, but he hasn’t completely ruled it out.
Speaking on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme, he said: “The argument always is that however good a new series might be, the people who are watching it wouldn’t be in the same state of mind and same state of emotions as they were when they watched the first series.
“They wouldn’t feel as warm about it, they wouldn’t feel as good about it. Even if it was absolutely great they’d go, ‘It’s not like the old series, is it?’
“So I think that’s one of the main reasons why no one has ever seriously thought about writing another series.
“But who knows, who knows? It’s not down to me, it’s down to Richard and Ben [Elton].”
Earlier this week, Richard confirmed the show would be back for the Comic Relief sketch.
He said: “For the first time in 20 years, Baldrick is going to be giving some kind of performance.
“We’re just conspiring about it now, so I think there’s going to be a marvellous, turnip-based thing with Tony Robinson now back in action, so I’m excited about that.”
Asked if Rowan is going to be in the Comic Relief special, Richard added: “No [laughs]. Rowan’s far too serious to do any of that.”
‘Blackadder’ originally ran for four series and two specials from 1983 to 1989, and another special ‘Blackadder: Back and Forth’ aired in 1999.

I Am Legend sequel will ignore original film’s ending and take more inspiration from the novel

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘I Am Legend’ sequel will focus on the book’s alternate ending.
Producer and writer Akiva Goldsman is returning to Warner Bros with a multi-year first look deal which includes the follow-up starring Will Smith and Michael B Jordan – as well as Keanu Reeves’ return for ‘Constantine 2’ – and he admitted more inspiration will be taken from Richard Matheson’s novel.
He told Deadline: “We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film.
“What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end.
“That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”
Goldsman noted that he’s taking some inspiration from HBO series ‘The Last of Us’ when it comes to telling the story over a longer period of time.
He explained: “This will start a few decades later than the first. I’m obsessed with ‘The Last of Us’, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse.
“You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there’s something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens?
“That will be especially visual in New York. I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the empire state building, but the possibilities are endless.”
He went deeper into his approach, noting that Warner bosses Michael De Luca and Pam Adby share his commitment to targeting “thoughtful things that can play theatrically”.
He added: “We’re all trying to figure out where that strike zone is, and I want to be able to help with IP I know and find pieces that are a little more actor-ey and story driven but not as IP driven.”

Laura Anderson and Gary Lucy expecting first child together but have split up

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Anderson and Gary Lucy are expecting their first child together – but the pair are no longer a couple.
The former ‘Love Island’ star confirmed on social media that she and the former ‘Hollyoaks’ actor are set to welcome a baby into the world later this year, admitting the pair’s “hearts are full”.
She shared a video montage of her baby bump, which included several snaps of Gary, and wrote on Instagram: “Our hearts are full. Baby Lucy due Summer ‘23 (sic)”
Gary commented on the montage: “There she is. so very proud of you Mummy Bear. cooking Baby Bear perfectly (sic)”
However, Gary, 41, has now confirmed he and the 33-year-old star – who met on ‘Celebs Go Dating’ last year – have split up.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I love Laura but we are no longer together.
“My main drive as always is to work together to co-parent our child. I look forward to the arrival of the new baby.”
Last month, it was reported that Laura and Gary had broken up after she deleted all pictures of Gary from her Instagram account.
A source said at the time: “They are calling it a break but it looks unlikely they will get back together.
“They want different things at the end of the day.”
Laura also hinted at the break-up on her Instagram Stories.
She shared a picture of herself with her dog Buddy and wrote: “I know I’ve been quiet on here and not myself this week or so.
“I’m going through a very difficult time, I actually don’t think I’ve ever felt so stressed in my life.
“As we know Instagram isn’t real life but over sharing negativity has never been something like doing. Anyway my thought of the day for us all is – Never lose yourself or your voice.”
The reports came after Laura helped nurse Gary back to health when he was involved in a horror car smash over the Christmas holiday period.
And Gary previously admitted he wanted Laura to move to Essex and meet his four children.
He said: “Well, everyone on the show keeps talking weddings and kids and all that … It’s lovely. I mean, long may that continue really. I enjoy every part.
“I want to bring her back to mine, roast dinner with my mum, because her approval is important, and then chill. I want to get her down to Essex with me. I think she’s an Essex girl at heart.”

Love Island’s Faye Winter and Teddy Soares have split

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ stars Faye Winter and Teddy Soares have split up.
The former couple – who met on the ITV2 dating competition in 2021 – have called it quits after nearly 18 months of dating.
Faye, 27, broke the news on her Instagram Story, captioning a picture of her dog Bonnie: “I wanted to let you know that after lots of time and consideration, Teddy and I have decided to go our separate ways.
“Thank you all so much for supporting our relationship and sharing the journey with us. I’m forever grateful.
“Lots of love, Faye and Bonnie x.”
This comes after Teddy sparked speculation the pair had gone their separate ways with a cryptic Instagram post requesting “privacy” earlier this month, after fans noticed that the pair’s socials featured fewer loved-up posts.
He wrote: “Everything you have been reading in the press is false. I have had nothing but love and respect for Faye since we first met.
“I do not wish to comment on rumours speculating our relationship and ask for you to respect our privacy at this time. Love Teddy.”
A source claimed the couple were in “crisis talks” about their relationship.
They said: “Things haven’t been working between Teddy and Faye for a while now.
“The tension bubbled over a couple of weeks ago, and they’ve been spending some time apart trying to figure out what they want.
“Faye is fighting to save their relationship and hopes they’ll be able to get back on track.”
The influencer added to the confusion when she shared some saucy Valentine’s Day content to her timeline about marking the day with “whoever it may be”.
Faye wrote: “Let’s all take a bow this Valentine’s for how great we look with the @lovehoneylingerie , whoever it may be for. Ourselves, partner or take away! @lovehoneyofficial has never made feeling good naked look so good with the largest selections you’ll be sure to find your perfect partner.”
