‘That movie will always be with me!’ Billy Crudup reflects on the legacy of Almost Famous

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Crudup says ‘Almost Famous’ is a movie that will “always be with [him].”
The 54-year-old actor played Russell Hammond in the 2000 comedy alongside the likes of Patrick Fugit, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson, and Fairuza Balk which follows a teenage journalist touring with the fictitious rock band Stillwater and reflected that the whole cast still holds the film in high regard because of their experience working with writer and director Cameron Crowe.
He said: “Everybody who was a part of that holds that film in high esteem, and for no other reason than Cameron Crowe is a wonderful human being. To be able to spend six months with him, he built this magical recreation of his childhood. It was a perfect example of what happens to our memories. He made that rather risky lifestyle seem downright folksy, and that’s because of the way it sat with him, in his memory. That’s the way he carried all of those artifacts with him. So, yeah, I think that will always be with me.
In 2022, a musical adaptation opened for an ill-fated run on Broadway and the Tony Award winner went on to add that he managed to see it just before it closed but noted that it was an “acid trip” to see one of his most famous roles played out in front of him.
He told Collider: “I went and saw the musical (on Broadway) just before it closed, and I sat next to Cameron. It was a bit of an acid trip, seeing a bit of your former life played out in front of you, but it was also really magical because it brought back so many of those great memories.”

Michael Sheen co-creates BBC drama The Way

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Sheen has co-created a new BBC drama.
The 54-year-old actor has co-created ‘The Way’ – which takes inspiration from the “social and political chaos” of the modern world – with writers James Graham and Adam Curtis, and Michael is thrilled to be part of the project.
He said: “I’m such an admirer of Adam and James’ work, so to create this project with them in these extraordinary times has been thrilling.
“I’m so excited to be telling this global story through the prism of my hometown and its community as we dig into the rollercoaster ride of our recent past and the mysterious depths that lay beneath.”
The show tells the story from the point of view of the Driscolls, a family who are swept up in a series of extraordinary events.
James relished the experience of working with Michael and Adam on the BBC drama, describing it as a “pinch-me” moment in his career.
He said: “Working with Michael Sheen and Adam Curtis on building this story has been one of those ‘pinch-me’ moments in the life of a writer.
“To tell a story set in Michael’s home community, and tapping into all the political and social themes of the moment – strikes, division, chaos and a loss of control – all while infusing it, we hope, with humour, magic and imagination has been the most creatively satisfying experience.”
Similarly, Adam has hailed James and Michael as “amazing people”.
He said: “This is a really timely way to examine one of the great puzzles of this moment – why is it so hard to imagine a better, or even just different, kind of future for this country? What is holding us back?
“I can’t think of two more amazing people to do that with than James and Michael.”
The show will film in and around Port Talbot later this year. However, casting details have not yet been announced.

Chris Packham: Bullying left me scarred for life

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Packham was left “scarred for life” after being bullied at school.
The 61-year-old naturalist has been a regular face on the BBC for almost 40 years and has fronted ‘Springwatch’ since 2009 but explained that he still has a “visual memory” of being tormented by his classmates.
He said: “It was devastating. It leaves a scar that lasts for a lifetime. I have a visual memory of some of the most horrific things that other young people said to me when I was a kid and they still hurt me now. They’ve tattooed something unpleasant in my psyche.”
The ‘Winterwatch’ star went on to add that he sought refuge in his childhood refuge from one classmate in particular and will “never forget” the way he was treated at school but has learned to “manage” the pain.
He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “I am so pleased a particular child in my early life could never get to me in my bedroom. He made my life absolute hell. We never forget, we just remember less often. So you get past the damaging stage and learn to manage it so you don’t bear grudges – life’s too short. You want to be making progress, not just entertaining hate. At the same time, the damage is done.
“He didn’t understand me. I wasn’t able to put up any defence or give him any point of access to any understanding of why I might have been behaving, looking, sounding how I did. The classic gang mentality of kids meant he just built a series of acolytes around him and the persecution became quite intense.”

Alan Davies: Why I will never quit QI

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Davies has no plans to quit ‘QI.’
The 56-year-old comedian – who is married to Katie Maskell and has Suzie, 13, Robert, 10 and six-year-old Francis with her – has served as a panellist on the hit BBC quiz show since its inception in 2003 and explained that even though he is tempted to step down after every series, he keeps going because being a dad is “so expensive.”
He said: “Having three kids? Things are so expensive. My daughter’s just turned 13 and had an escape-room party. So that’s episode one of QI paying for that! Every year there comes a point during this series where I go home to my wife, Katie, and I say this has to be the last year, I just feel ridiculous now sitting there clowning about. But when it’s fun, it’s really, really fun. But I don’t think any television is as much fun as it used to be – all the budgets got contracted after the first global financial crash.”
The ‘Jonathan Creek’ star went on to add that after so many lost their security during the COVID-19 pandemic, he does not want to appear as an “idiot” to fans amid the cost-of-living crisis.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “And now we’ve come out of Covid, we’re in a cost-of-living crisis. Everyone’s going to think you’re an idiot if you say you’re tired and want to go home. You just have to count your blessings. The ambition has always been to get to Z in the alphabet, which means we’ve got six years to go. Sorry, readers!”

Olivia Atwood cried for 24 hours after she was forced to quit ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Atwood cried for 24 hours after she was forced to quit ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ over medical and insurance reasons.
The reality TV regular, 31, was forced off the show a day into the 2022 series and her team said at the time that to say she was “heartbroken was an understatement”.
She has now revealed being forced off the ITV as she had low blood pressure and other alarming measurements – which led to insurers refusing to cover her stint on the show – and it left her in tears and fearing people would think she quit as she was a “d***head” who “didn’t fancy” the grimmer aspects of the show.
Olivia told the latest episode of Jamie Laing’s ‘Private Parts’ podcast, released on Friday (10.02.23): “It was basically a massive f*** up really. I was in there, I was fine, and they do routine medicals every few das.
“They do them on site with the paramedics, and big hospitals would say (their measurements are) a guideline.
“We’d had a really long day and I’m always on the lower end of blood pressure because I’m tall and slim, and they just did all these tests late one evening, and they were just like, they were worried about these tests.
“They were like, ‘Everything is really low.’”
She went on about getting the all-clear from a hospital: “They took me to a private hospital and they tested me, and they were like, ‘We’re happy.’ So we had an overnight debate because the insurers were like, ‘The tests dropped this low.’
“The hospitals sometime say, ‘Take it with a pinch of salt,’ and the insurance said no because if she collapses… .
“So it was basically red tape.”
She added about weeping all the way back from the jungle: “I don’t cry… and I cried the whole way back from Australia – the whole flight.
“I spent 24 hours crying. The producers were all my ‘Love Island’ producers and they were awake all night to see if there was anything, but then I’d broken the Covid bubble, so there were so many issues.
“It was like that thing where it didn’t feel real – I wanted to do the show for so many years.. I kind of built it up into this massive thing. I definitely made it bigger in my mind… then you’re in… then you jump out of a f****** helicopter, then it’s a crash.
“I could process it, but it was very hard to process. I was like, if I heard it I’d be like, ‘Shut up, people are dying,’ and of course they are, but it’s tough.”
Former motorsport grid girl Olivia, who came third on the third series of ITV2’s ‘Love Island’, said she wanted to go on ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ to show people she wasn’t an “airhead” and that she could “get my hands dirty”.
She added when news broke she had left the series she feared people would “think I came and had a look around and thought, ‘F*** this,’” and she would “look like a d***head”.
She said the rumours she heard about why she left the show included that she “just didn’t fancy it” and that she was pregnant.
Olivia previously said the tests a day into the 2022 series had showed worryingly low sodium and potassium levels, which prompted ITV staff to take her to A and E despite her feeling “absolutely fine”.

Joanna Lumley reveals secrets to her long marriage

OHMYGOSSIP — Joanna Lumley still writes love letters to her husband after nearly 40 years of marriage.
The 76-year-old ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ actress was briefly married to actor Jeremy Lloyd and has son James, 55, from her relationship with the photographer Michael Claydon, but is set to celebrate her 37th wedding anniversary to her conductor husband Stephen Barlow, 68, later this year and says the love notes they exchange is one of the keys to their long relationship.
She told the new issue of Yours magazine: “Stephen and I are forever writing notes.
“When I’m the other side of the world, in faraway lands, we write to each other. People say, ‘Who writes letters anymore?’ and I say, ‘I do!’ I think that’s been really important for our marriage.”
She added about the importance of respect and being friends in a relationship: “They say the secret to a long marriage is not to get divorced – a perfect answer.
“But the real secret is starting off with respect. Don’t marry someone if you don’t respect them – know that you admire them for what they do and who they are.
“Have courtesy and be kind to your partner. Stephen and I love and respect each other, and I think that’s what you need.
“The second most important thing is that they must be your best friend. Your real go-to and trusted friend.”
Joanna also admitted about being starstruck by the prospect of working with Leonardo DiCaprio, 48, with whom she starred on ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’: “My heart did beat a little faster at the thought of working with him.
“And he couldn’t have been sweeter or more courteous. I was afraid he may be a bit of a Hollywood brat, but he turned out to be the sweetest, most modest, kind-hearted, good natured, humble, adorable man.”

“I’ve been very lucky to meet him and to have a chance to work with him. I want to do it again and again.”

She told HELLO! magazine: “I’m so excited! Although I haven’t chosen my dress yet, I know which style I want. My favourite fashion eras are the 1950s and 1960s and I adore the designs worn by Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. I love classic simplicity and an hourglass shape that suits my body. “I’ll probably opt for a shade of white, perhaps one with a golden glow. It would be beautiful in both [Italy or Oxfordshire].
One thing’s for sure, though, our little girl Mila can;t wait to be a flower girl!”

The former ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star – who previously dated fellow ‘Dancing with the Stars’ professional Giulia Dotta between 2016 and 2021 – went on to reflect on how they had to “stick together” when they received some negative press as Ukrainian-born Nadiya admitted that while being in the public eye can be “tough”, she remembers that there are people from her war-torn home country who cannot be together because of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Kai told OK! Magazine: “It wasn’t nice and we had some not nice headlines written about us. We just stuck together and said, ‘I want to be with you and we’re going to make it work.”

Steven Spielberg doesn’t regret Harry Potter snub

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Spielberg has no regrets about turning down ‘Harry Potter’.
The 76-year-old director was offered the chance to make ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, the first movie in the wizardry franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s novels, but explained that he snubbed the movie as he wanted to spend time with his family rather than on a film set.
Steven – who has seven children from his relationships with ex-wife Amy Irving and his current spouse Kate Capshaw – told fellow filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli for Reliance Entertainment: “The personal meaning about (how the conflict between) art and family will tear you in half happened to me later, after I had already established myself as a filmmaker, as a working director.
“Kate and I started raising a family and we started having children. The choice I had to make in taking a job that would move me to another country for four of five months where I wouldn’t see my family every day.”
Spielberg explained that ‘Harry Potter’ was just one of several projects that he turned down for family reasons.
The ‘Indiana Jones’ filmmaker said: “There were several films I chose not to make. I chose to turn down the first ‘Harry Potter’ to basically spend the next year and a half with my family, my young kids growing up.
“So I’d sacrificed a great franchise, which today looking back I’m very happy to have done, to be with my family.”
Spielberg previously explained that he didn’t feel ready to make an “all-kids movie” with the project, which was ultimately directed by Chris Columbus.
He said in 2012: “I just felt that I wasn’t ready to make an all-kids movie, and my kids thought I was crazy. And the books were by that time popular, so when I dropped out, I knew it was going to be a phenomenon.”

Speaking to Variety, Louis said: “I read the script four times on the plane, and I said I had some ideas, and they said, ‘Great, because the whole third act is changing. Can you rewrite it tonight?’ I was literally on no sleep. I’d been in no sleep for days.”
The ‘Grimsby’ director explained how he soon realised that the entire script would need to be altered to accommodate his revisions to the third act.
Louis said: “Obviously, this was not going to be set in stone. But I was like, ‘OK, yeah, I’ve got some ideas’, and started writing. And, obviously, since the third act was changing. I needed to change the first act.
“And when you rewrite the third act, and the first act, the second act has to go. So basically I had to on the fly rebuild the airplane.”
Leterrier revealed that his frantic changes were worth it when he met lead star Vin Diesel for the first time during filming.
He said: “You see this mountain of a man, bald head, muscles. You hear the voice and he turns to you, looks you straight in the soul, and says, ‘Welcome to the family, brother.'”
‘Fast X’ is set to be released in May and is the first of a two-part finale to the long-running street racing franchise.
The flick will star Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and franchise newcomer Jason Momoa as a villain.
