Riz Ahmed and Lily James starring in Relay

OHMYGOSSIP — Riz Ahmed and Lily James are to star in the thriller ‘Relay’.
David Mackenzie is directing the movie and will produce with Basil Iwanyk, Gillian Berrie and Teddy Schwarzman.
‘Relay’ will star Ahmed as Tom, a world-class “fixer” who specialises in brokering lucrative deals between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten their ruin.
He keeps his identity a secret through meticulous planning and follows an exacting set of rules. However, when a message arrives from potential client Sarah (James) who needs Tom’s protection to stay alive – the guidelines quickly start to change.
Mackenzie has written the script with Justin Piasecki and filming is due to start in New York and New Jersey in April.
Executive producers include Michael Heimler, John Friedberg, Erica Lee and Charlie Morrison.
Black Bear International is launching the project at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Meanwhile, Riz previously criticised the “shocking” lack of diversity on TV and called for better representation of Muslims on screen.
The Oscar-winning star feels that Muslim representation is a “blind spot” that ultimately “costs lives”.
The 40-year-old star said: “It’s not surprising, but it is shocking. It’s a blind spot that’s all over our culture. And it costs lives. Countries get invaded, hate crimes go up, laws get passed. So off the back of that we’re thinking, ‘What do we need to shift?’ And, actually, it’s about empowering people to tell their own story.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Gillan has joined the cast of ‘Sleeping Dogs’.
The 35-year-old actress is to star in the crime drama film alongside the previously announced Russell Crowe.
Marton Csokas, Harry Greenwood and Thomas M Wright are also set to feature in the movie from director Adam Cooper that will begin filming in Australia next month.

Crowe will play Roy Freeman, a former homicide detective undergoing cutting-edge treatment for Alzheimer’s who is tasked with re-examining a brutal murder case from his past – the grisly killing of a college professor (Csokas).
Fighting to get his memory back, the detective enlists his former partner to help him revisit the investigation. The pair encounter a magnetic and mysterious woman (Gillian) and a horrific reality that changes the detective’s view of the world in the blink of an eye.
Karen will return as Nebula in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and heaped praise on the script from director James Gunn.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star said: “I read that script with Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis.
“We read it together and we both cried and laughed, but there were full tears. It’s incredible, I think it’s James’ strongest work yet with the Guardians and it’s just brilliant.
“It’s brilliant and it’s emotional and it’s funny and it’s all of those things that you want.”

Austin Butler: What I learned from playing Elvis

OHMYGOSSIP — Austin Butler was “moved” to discover the “humour” of Elvis Presley whilst playing him in the biopic.
The 31-year-old actor takes on the title role of the late music legend – who died in 1977 at the age of 42 – in ‘Elvis’ but admitted that he was unaware of his generous nature before taking on the part and still cannot believe that he was cast in the first place.
He said: “I didn’t know about his incredible generosity. I’d heard a little bit about it, but then you hear the stories of him just taking off his jewellery and just giving it to a stranger, or giving somebody that he doesn’t even know a car. And the other thing that really touched me was his humour. He was a really funny man. Things like that moved me. I absolutely have to pinch myself.”
The former ‘Zoey 101’ star went on to add that the film explores the “really tricky” relationship between Elvis and his manager Colonel Tom Parker as well as the “universal theme” of wanting to leave behind a legacy after death.
He told Empire Magazine: “It’s a really tricky relationship to sum up, and I think that’s what a lot of this film is trying to explore. Elvis was really famous locally, but he wasn’t famous globally. The Colonel was a master at marketing, so it’s sort of a Svengali-like relationship. Elvis wanted to do certain things like tour the world, and he wasn’t able to because of the Colonel. I’ve got a lot of feelings about it. There’s a lot of different ways of approaching it. One of the keys was that later on in his life he didn’t want to fall asleep in a room by himself. So he’d have one of his back-up singers come and sit by his bedside, and he’d tell her stories and stuff about his mom. And at one point, he said, ‘Am I just gonna be forgotten after I die?’ It’s a very universal thing, reaching for eternity.”

He said: “I’ve just filmed a movie called ‘Gettysburg Christmas’. I’m looking forward to another film with the team behind ‘Renegades’ and, here’s an exclusive for you, yesterday I had a phone call from David Leitch who directed ‘Deadpool’ and ‘John Wick’.
“I knew he was doing ‘The Fall Guy’ movie in Australia with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt but I was surprised by his call. He asked if I would appear in the movie and so I had to say yes!”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin has begun hyperbaric oxygen therapy amid his battle with terminal lung cancer.
The 49-year-old TV presenter confirmed in November that tumours had spread to his brain, and Jonni has now taken to social media to deliver an update about his treatment.
Alongside photos of a bridge in Newcastle and a zip-up portable chamber, Jonnie wrote on Instagram: “And at the end of this walk…is this…hyperbaric oxygen therapy. (sic)”

Jonnie also revealed that he’s keen to spend as much time as possible with his family.
The TV star – who has Rex, four, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with Jessica Holmes – said: “I owe that to Jess and our boys.

Amy Hart wants to avoid ‘horror stories’

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Hart wants to avoid “horror stories about back-to-back labour”.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has revealed that her unborn child is in the so-called back-to-back position, and Amy has urged her social media followers to not send her scare stories.
The 30-year-old star – who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Sam Rason – said on Instagram Story: “Baby’s not breech. Baby’s head down but is back to back.
“I appreciate that back to back is painful but I’m putting on my cloak of protection from my hypo-birthing.

In the so-called back-to-back position, the baby has the back of their head and back against the spine.
Meanwhile, Amy announced her pregnancy in August.
The TV star revealed the news on ‘Loose Women’, after previously speaking about her fertility struggles.

“Everyone kept coming up to me and saying, ‘You don’t seem very drunk’ and I said to my best friend ‘people are beginning to ask’ and she said, ‘Well, you’re going to have to do something then.’
“So the Abba tribute band was playing ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’ and I started crawling across the dancefloor, and nobody asked again.”
Amy decided to freeze her eggs at the age of 27, after previously being told that her fertility levels were low for her age.
Asked if she will still use her frozen eggs, Amy replied: “I might need them in the future.

Kaye Adams: Why I said yes to Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams has “never been comfortable” with her sexuality.
The 60-year-old journalist is best known for her long-running role as an anchor on ITV1 lunchtime chat show ‘Loose Women’ but after starting the ‘How To Be 60’ podcast in the run up to her milestone birthday last year, was asked to take part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and admitted the decision to say yes was “purely professional” because she has “never been a performer.”
She said: “You start a podcast called ‘How to Be 60’ and then two months later someone says ‘Do you want to do ‘Strictly?’ I deserved to be drummed out the Brownies if I didn’t say yes, purely professionally, so [turning 60] was probably the driving force because if it had been an entirely personal decision, I’m not sure I would have done it. That’s not for any negative reason, but it was so – I hate that comfort zone expression – but I’ve never been a performer. I’ve never been one of these women who is comfortable even with a selfie or pouting or whatever.”
The BBC Radio host – who has daughters Charley, 20, and 16-year-old Bonnie with partner Ian Campbell – was the first contestant eliminated from the Latin and ballroom competition and went on to explain that she has never been “comfortable” smiling on camera and initially thought taking part in ‘Strictly’ would be going “too far.”
Speaking on ‘White Wine Question Time’, she told host Kate Thornton: “I’m not like [‘Loose Women’ co-star] Denise Welch, with a bloody selfie, hysterical laughing. The camera is there and you’ve gotta do this laugh with eyes and an open mouth. It makes me die inside! I’ve just never been one of these women who has been comfortable with my sexuality, I guess that is the truth. I’ve never been able to do all of that kind of flirty stuff and so ‘Strictly’, I was like ‘Jesus Christ, this is too far for me!’ But my professional self said ‘Don’t be such a t***, do it!’ and that’s why I did it.”

Rhod Gilbert was ‘p***** off’ with cancer diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Rhod Gilbert was “p***** off” when he was diagnosed with head and neck cancer.
The 54-year-old comedian told last year he had stage four cancer, though he didn’t say what type at the time, and he’s revealed how he was left struggling to “speak or breathe” during the early days of his battle with the disease.
In a pre-recorded segment for the National Comedy Awards, which were held in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer, he said: “I couldn’t speak or breathe and I was postponing and cancelling tour shows, I had terrible spasms in my face and a lot of tightness in my muscles.
“Couldn’t get to the bottom of it, turns out after a biopsy of this lump in my neck that I have something called head and neck cancer, cancer of the head, sounded pretty serious.”
And Rhod joked he assumed he would have “life-long immunity” from cancer after spending 10 years as a patron of Velindre Cancer Center, so he was annoyed when he received his diagnosis.
He said: “I’ve led five fundraising treks all over the world, I do stand-up comedy nights to raise money, I hosted quizzes… it’s been a big part of my life for the last 10 years, so imagine my surprise when I was diagnosed with cancer.
“Which p***** me off no end, because I thought I’d have life-long immunity! Apparently not.
“Apparently you’re just as likely to get cancer even if you spend your time fundraising for a cancer hospital. Anyway, I did get it, and it turns out it can come for anybody.”
And the Welsh comic noted the “irony” of finding the lump in his neck while on a fundraising event for the organisation.
He said: “The other irony is that I was in Cuba on a trek, fundraising for this cancer centre when the first b***** lump popped up in my neck. I literally left as a patron and came back as a patient.
“I had to have chemotherapy sessions in a room with pictures of me on the way in, grinning down at myself as a patron.”
Rhod is now feeling “really happy and really positive” and hopes to soon lead another fundraising trek, though he is still “a little way” off his goal.
He said: “My facial hair is coming back, my voice is back to normal, my weight is coming back, my saliva glands are starting to come back. Basically, I’m coming back. My physically recovery goal is to lead the next fundraising trek to Morocco…
“I’m feeling optimistic and weirdly I’m feeling really happy and really positive.”

Ed Sheeran undergoes dramatic transformation to play homeless addict in new movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran plays a homeless drug addict in ‘Sumotherhood’.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker’s casting in a mystery role in Adam Deacon’s upcoming movie was announced last year, and it has now been revealed he underwent a dramatic transformation for his short appearance in the action comedy.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Ed plays this bloke who’s not got a home and looks like a crack addict.
“It was filmed a while ago, but work on the movie is almost complete and the hope is it will be out this year.
“The casting makes it an intriguing one and in particular, everyone wants to see Ed. He doesn’t have a massive part in the film and although fans will recognise him straight away, they’ve never seen him looking like this.”
The movie also stars the likes of Denise Van Outen, Jennifer Saunders, Peter Serafinowicz, Leomie Anderson, London Hughes, Kevin Bishop, Jaime Winstone, Vas Blackwood and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
And Adam – who also appears in the film as well as directing – previously promised the film would “celebrate the variety of life” found in modern east London.
He said last year: “We are so excited that this incredible cast are joining the project bringing these wacky and crazy characters to life.
“More than ever, we are celebrating the variety of life in East London in 2022. Both darkly authentic, as well as embracing the vibrant and diverse lifestyle of living in an East London council estate.
“This film is going to be an explosion of fun with action and comedy at every turn, while also hitting some serious subject matters with raw emotion and harsh reality.”
Bruce of Belstone Pictures added: “This international cast we are blessed to be working with will allow an authentic London ‘Hood’ film to reach audiences in America and around the world.”

Kaz Crossley jailed in Dubai on suspicion of drug offences

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaz Crossley has been jailed in Dubai on suspicion of drug offences.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who came third on the show in 2018 – was reportedly detained at Abu Dhabi airport on Monday (13.02.23) while in transit for a flight to Thailand, where she has spent much of the last year doing voluntary work.
It is believed her name was flagged as authorities in the UAE are still investigating a video from November 2020 which showed her snorting a suspicious white substance at a party in Dubai.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are in contact with the local authorities following the arrest of a British national in the United Arab Emirates.”
The 28-year-old beauty wasn’t allowed to phone her family after her arrest and was only able to send one email to a friend to let them know what had happened.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “She was looking forward to getting back to Thailand where she has been doing voluntary work and all of a sudden she is languishing in a Dubai jail.
“Everyone knows how strict they are about drugs over there. She must be terrified.
“She had only stopped off in Abu Dhabi to catch a connecting flight but her name has obviously raised a red flag.
“She was allowed to send just one email and wasn’t even allowed to make a phone call.
“She messaged one particular friend whose email she could remember and asked her to inform her family that she was OK but had been arrested for drugs offences. The arrest wasn’t because of anything she had on her.
“As far as we know it is all down to that video.”
Under recently-changed drug laws in Dubai, first time offenders face at least three months in prison and a fine of between £4,559 and £22,799.
Expats are usually deported back to their home countries after being jailed.

Ant and Dec to show fans ‘who they really are’ with new documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec are to star in a new documentary about their private lives.
The Geordie duo, both 47, have been on television together for more than 30 years and have jointly fronted shows such as ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ for ITV but are reportedly set to give fans a peek into what goes on behind the scenes for the first time ever.
A source said: “This is a huge deal. People have grown up with Ant and Dec and their cheeky style means viewers have always felt like they know them.
“But really they’ve always made a clear distinction between their lives on and off camera and kept their private lives relatively out of the limelight. For the first time we’ll see a glimpse of who the lads really are!”
The insider went on to tease that the documentary – which is set to air in the spring – will be “raw and real” as it explores what happens when things go awry in the world of celebrity.
The source told The Sun newspaper: “There’s nothing like seeing a celebrity when they’re under pressure, or when something hasn’t gone to plan – in those cracks are where you find out who someone really is – and that’s going to be the beauty of this project. We’ll even see what they have for breakfast. It’s going to be raw and real and everyone is so excited.”
What’s more, the former ‘Byker Grove’ stars will be joined by the likes of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ host Claudia Winkleman , ‘This Morning’ stars Alison Hammond and Rylan Clark on the upcoming series of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’, – which returns to screens on 25 February – with backstage footage from the new block of episodes set to also feature in the new film

Paul Rudd: This could be the end of Ant-Man!

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Rudd has teased that the latest ‘Ant-Man’ movie could be his last.
The 53-year-old actor is known for starring in the title role of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a string of movies but explained that he could have played the role for the final time in the latest blockbuster ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, although he ultimately remains unsure about his future in the franchise.
He said: “Maybe it is the end of Ant-Man. I don’t really know. As far as what’s next, the only thing I can say for sure is that the Kang the Conqueror is going to be a very big part of whatever it is.”
The ‘Ideal Home’ star went on to add that it has felt “huge” working on the series over the course of five films since 2015 as he paid tribute to studio president Kevin Feige and the other bosses at the MCU, noting that they seem to “really care” about the movies.
He told Sky News: “They feel huge working on them because, you know, they are. And I think that [Marvel] have a way of making films that are different from other studios… Everyone who works at Marvel trusts in the machine a little bit.
“They’re good at making the things that they make. Kevin Feige and some of the producers, they know what it is that they want to see because they’re comic book fans, they are Marvel fans. They’ve grown up reading the comics. They are fanboys and fangirls. And so, they really, I think, care about the product!”

Adult filmmaker Erika Lust calls for BAFTAs and Oscars to recognise intimacy coordinators

OHMYGOSSIP — Ethical porn director Erika Lust has called for the BAFTAs and Oscars to recognise the work of intimacy coordinators.
The adult filmmaker believes it would make a “powerful and timely statement” if the organisers of each ceremony added a Best Intimacy Coach in a Motion Picture prizes to go alongside other technical categories at the events in recognition of the work done by the experts to choreograph and set boundaries when actors are filming sex scenes.
Erika said: “From its earliest day, the mainstream film industry has been tainted and shaped by male-dominated exploitation. That includes everything from the notorious casting couch to improper conduct by actors and directors towards cast members, forcing them to perform scenes they had not consented to.
“There are BAFTAs and Oscars for costume design, interior decoration and hair and make-up. In an industry where sex sells, recognising the critical role of Intimacy Coaches with an award category would be a powerful and timely statement by the respective Academies. The MeToo movement has seen women strike back and intimacy coaches are a key step in ensuring directors and actors convey sex, sexual pleasure and nudity with consent, care and free of exploitation.”
The ‘Cabaret Desire’ director, who has directed and produced over 300 adult entertainment films, believes Hollywood could learn from the ethical porn industry, which prioritises consent and cast wllbeing.
She said: “Porn is a dirty word for many, but as a female director in a still predominantly male-dominated porn industry, just like Hollywood, I bet Hollywood could learn from the ethical standards and expectations we place on set to protect cast members from exploitation, misogyny, and degrading behaviour.”

Shayne Ward is still ‘very proud’ of Corrie suicide storyline

OHMYGOSSIP — Shayne Ward is still “very proud” that he was able to raise awareness of male suicide through his role on ‘Coronation Street.’
The 38-year-old star played the role of Aidan Connor on the ITV1 soap opera from 2015 until 2018 and exited the show when his character took his own life but is still contacted by those affected by the issue today as he urged men to “never be afraid” to speak out about their mental health.
He said: “To tackle the taboo of male suicide, it was something that we had to naturally treat so delicately, we met with families, we spoke with Calm and Mind and worked closely with them. You never quite know how the public is going to receive that type of storyline but it was received so well. Even still now, the amount of messages we still get as a team from those who have unfortunately lost someone to suicide.
“We are very proud that we were able to use that platform to say that it is okay to talk. Don’t be afraid to talk, because we’re here to talk.”
Before his time on ‘Coronation Street’, Shayne – who has daughter Willow, six, and eight-month-old son Reign with fiancee Sophie Austin – first found fame as the winner of ‘The X Factor’ in 2004 and ahead of returning to the music scene with a greatest hits tour in April, admitted he is “hugely grateful” for the show before revealing that he almost missed his initial audition.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he told stand in host Christine Lampard: “11 years since I last headlined my own tour but it feels right because I’ve had a lot of time acting in soap and in film and I want to show the kids what daddy has done previously. I’m hugely proud of [‘X Factor’]. It was a great kickstart for all of us. I’m very, very proud of the show and it started my career. I’ve been doing this now for 17 years and I absolutely loved being on it. It was an amazing experience. I did [nearly miss the audition], I was on holiday at the time and I couldn’t afford to fly back but luckily enough there was an open audition the next day so I hope it was written in the stars when I went back, yeah.”

Raven-Symoné wants to direct a Cheetah Girls reunion movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Raven-Symoné wants to direct a ‘Cheetah Girls’ reunion movie.
The 37-year-old actress was a fixture on the Disney Channel in the early 2000s with her ‘That’s So Raven’ sitcom – which was revived as ‘Raven’s Home in 2017 – but also starred alongside Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, and Sabrina Bryan in the 2003 musical comedy film for the network which followed four girls on a quest for musical superstardom and admitted that she would be up for a reboot of the franchise, as long as she could step behind the camera.
Speaking to former co-star Adrienne in a chat with E! News, she said: “I would do it in a heartbeat. That’s why we did ‘Raven’s Home’ and that’s why we’re here. And I think that it is a wonderful thing to just encapsulate something and just let it live. We are in the era of a reboot, we love a reboot! We love a reboot, but we hate it when they ruin it!
“So if there was anything, and I’m trying to be honest, I’ll say this to your face. I’m not trying to act that much anymore, I want to direct. But if there was something that we did together, it would be us and you would be surprised — it would smash.”
During its original run, ‘The Cheetah Girls’ franchise spawned two further movies, three soundtrack albums, and the stars formed a real-life pop group that released three studio albums and went on tour with fellow Disney Channel icon Miley Cyrus in character as her alter-ego Hannah Montana.
Towards the end of last year, Kiely teased that a reunion of some form could be on the cards and couldn’t envisage any of her co-stars turning the chance down because of how positive the experience was for them all the time round.
She said: “I can’t see all the women saying no to that, just because of how good I know it made all of us feel, so you never know!”
