Ernie Hudson felt ‘pushed aside’ in the original Ghostbusters movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Ernie Hudson believes he was “deliberately pushed aside” in ‘Ghostbusters’.
The 77-year-old actor played ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore in the 1984 supernatural comedy, but he has claimed his role was made to be smaller than it was intended to be, and he’s accused Coulmbia Pictures of not being “inclusive” by not having him appear alongside fellow ghostbusters Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd in the theatrical poster.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s ‘The Howard Stern Wrap Up Show’, he said: “The studio wasn’t [inclusive], and the studio continued not to be.
“So it made it very, very difficult because I was a part of it but then I very selectively was pushed aside … In the original script, Winston was in the very beginning of the movie. By the time we got ready to shoot the movie, Winston came in halfway through the movie. All those things … It definitely felt deliberate.”
Despite not being included in the promos, Ernie is “so thankful” to the fans who identified with his character.
He continued: “When the posters came out, I’m not on the poster. It took a long time. I went to the 30th anniversary release of the movie and all the posters are three guys. Now I know the fans see it differently, and I’m so thankful for the fans because the fans basically identified with Winston — especially young, I don’t want to say minority kids, but a lot of kids.”
Ernie admits he never wants to “blame” anything on being Black, but it took him a good decade before he could “make peace” with what happened.
He said: “I’m still not trying to take it personally.
“Anything bad, if you’re African American in this country, anything bad happens to you, you can always blame it on [being] Black. You don’t want to go there. That’s the last thing I want to do. I got nothing bad to say about anybody but it was hard. It took me 10 years to get past that and enjoy the movie and just embrace the movie. ‘Ghostbusters’ was really hard to make peace with.”
It didn’t stop him from returning for the 1989 sequel ‘Ghostbusters II’ and he had a minor part in the 2021 reboot ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’.
And he’s asked for a bigger role in the next film in the series.
Ernie added: “Even now, we’re negotiating a new movie that’s gearing up to start shooting in March, and I’m like, ‘Guys, there’s a place … I’m not an add-on.’
“So if I’m going to do it, it has to make sense.”

You’ve Been Framed ‘axed by ITV’ after 33 years

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘You’ve Been Framed!’ has reportedly been cancelled by ITV.
The long running clip show – which was originally fronted by Jeremy Beadle when it launched in 1990 while Harry Hill has served as narrator since 2004 – saw members of the public send in videos of their own surprising mishaps for the enjoyment of viewers.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The fact that ‘You’ve Been Framed’ has been shelved is a sad sign of the times.
“It’s a different world to Jeremy Beadle’s heyday. Why would viewers tune in to a show featuring funny videos when they could see the same sort of thing on the internet?
“Silly clips are hugely popular on social media and the right video can go viral. There’s a thrill in achieving that — even though you don’t earn the £250 fee which ‘You’ve Been Framed’ paid for contributions.”
The most recent episode aired in August 2022 with Harry at the helm, having voiced 341 of the show’s 701 episodes over the past 33 years.
Former ‘Emmerdale’ star Lisa Riley replaced Jeremy in 1998 before Jonathan Wilkes took over for just one series in 2003.
‘You’ve Been Framed’ has been removed from the ITV website, while repeats shown on Sunday had scrapped the part of the programme which invited viewers to send in their videos in return for the £250 payment.
Although the show was relatively inexpensive and simple to make, it took a while to put together because the videos needed to be vetted by bosses, with acts of deliberate violence and injury banned alongside obviously set-up shots.
Meanwhile, Harry previously revealed: “I don’t get to see the long list but I know there are a lot of fakes — and a lot of sex videos.”

The Real Full Monty is poised to return with the BIGGEST twist yet

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Real Full Monty’ is set to return with a brand new “twist”.
The ITV reality TV show – which sees famous faces strip off to raise awareness of cancer – hasn’t been on screens since 2021, but it is said to be making a comeback, with host Ashley Banjo also reportedly returning.
One series saw stars go one step further by stripping while ice skating, while the most recent season had a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ theme, but producers want to go one step further.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “This show proved hugely popular with viewers because it raised a laugh while shining a spotlight on serious subjects.
“In previous years producers have tried to put a twist on the overall theme and this year is likely to be no exception.
“The celebrities, who’ve yet to be revealed, will face a nervous wait to find out if that twist is likely to add even more pressure.”
The likes of ‘Loose Women’ panellist Coleen Nolan, Blue singer Duncan James, ‘EastEnders’ legend Laila Morse and ‘Love Island’ star Teddy Soares have appeared on the show.
Duncan paid tribute to late Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding on ‘Strictly The Real Full Monty’.
The ‘All Rise’ hitmaker took part in memory of his late friend – who tragically died aged 39 of breast cancer in September 2021 – and previously opened up on his decision to strip off for the programme to encourage others to get checked out.
He said: “A lot of my friends from the music industry have suffered with breast cancer, and one of those friends, Sarah Harding, sadly lost her battle this year.
“Sarah was always such a bubbly girl, full of life, full of fun, biggest smile, and to hear the news that she’d lost the battle – it was just heartbreaking.”

Before this, its most recent season – which took fans back to Dumbarton – kicked off in November and saw Siobhan Redmond appear as Anne-Marie, the new love interest of Colin after Doon Mackichan, who played his diva girlfriend, departed the show.
Gregor Sharp and Simon Carlyle, the show’s creators, said: “We’re excited to be spreading our wings and lowering the tone as we introduce BBC One audiences to life in Latimer Crescent.”

Nicola Coughlan cast in new comedy Big Mood

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Coughlan has been cast in new comedy ‘Big Mood’.
The ‘Bridgerton’ actress will join ‘It’s A Sin’ star Lydia West, 29, in the Channel 4 six-part series written and created by Camilla Whitehill – which will be directed by Rebecca Asher (‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’), and Nicola’s own friendship with Camilla has influenced the script.
The 36-year-old actress told Variety magazine: “We met like a million years ago at drama school in Oxford. She was training to be an actor. And then when we left drama school, we were both in various states of not working and everything being a bit crap.
“And she was like, ‘I’m not gonna be an actor, I want to write.’ I went to see her first short play night and she was just – she’s always been insanely funny.
“But then, when I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh, she’s gonna be a famous writer’. But our 20s were like the struggle bus. And then the fact now the show is happening… I’ve always wanted to work with her. And then for Lydia to be part of it is the biggest dream.”
The show is tipped as “a vivacious and rebellious portrayal of female friendship when infiltrated by the complexities of a serious mental illness”.
It follows two pals Maggie and Eddie – played by Nicola and Lydia respectively – who spent their 20s in a somewhat co-dependent friendship but heading towards their 30s they share the same worries for mental health and potentially outgrowing friendships.
The ex ‘Derry Girls’ star recently revealed her ‘Bridgerton’ character Penelope Featherington will “finally becomes a woman in season three and comes into herself” as Nicola gears up to take the spotlight alongside her on-screen love interest, Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton.

Ekin-Su Culculoglu warned to limit social media posts on holiday after alleged break-in attempt

OHMYGOSSIP — Ekin-Su Culculoglu has been warned to stop posting photos on holiday after an attempted burglary on her house.
The ‘Love Island’ star and her partner Davide Sanclimenti – with whom she won the reality show last summer – were enjoying an exotic getaway in the Maldives when men dressed as maintenance workers allegedly tried to break into their £5,000 a month apartment in East London.
Sharing surveillance footage on Instagram, Davide wrote: “Stay far away from our house motherf******. Police is after you. (sic)”
As reported by the Daily Mirror newspaper, the security team at the riverside apartment block – where the couple moved in November 2022 – alerted them to the incident, while the man didn’t get inside the property.
The couple have continued to update their social medial followers on their trip since the alleged break-in attempt.
An insider told the outlet: “They’ve been advised to be wary of posting any social media content from holidays until they’re back home.
“But they’re young and excited to be on glamorous trips. Social media content is also a huge part of their jobs.”
Meanwhile Davide, 27, was recently forced to address rumours his relationship with Ekin-Su, 27, is a “showmance” because of how little they post on social media together.
He said: “I read a comment saying we were fake because we barely post on social media together.
“But I’m just not a social media person. I don’t blame people – they only know us for what they have seen. But those who have seen us in real life cannot believe anyone would think we are fake.
“Luca [Bish, runner-up on ‘Love Island’] mentioned how we were such a lovely couple. And [fellow Islander] Dami Hope said the same. That’s why we don’t care about those kinds of comments.”
Meanwhile, former ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant Ekin-Su explained that their relationship is not “for the world” and compared their stance on social media to that of other celebrity couples such as Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright, and fellow ‘Love Island’ stars Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury.
In the joint interview, she added: “We don’t want everyone to know everything. Our relationship is between two people, not the world. We don’t need to prove to anyone that we are real.”

BBC announces new Agatha Christie thriller Murder Is Easy

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC has announced a new Agatha Christie adaptation ‘Murder Is Easy’.
The broadcaster has unveiled plans for a two-part thriller based on the iconic author’s classic novel, and it will be adapted for the small screen by Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre.
Filming is set to get underway this summer with Meena Gaur directing, and it will air on BBC One and iPlayer in a co-commission with BritBox International.
In a statement, Ejiwunmi-Le Berre said: “I’ve watched every Agatha Christie adaptation out, because Christie wrote for the world and the whole world loves her back.
“But somehow I’d never read one of her novels. When I first read Murder is Easy, I couldn’t believe how daring, experimental and furious the book was. Nothing like I’d expected.
“From the first read, the book was shouting at me how to enter and adapt it, and what’s so exciting is having everyone at Mammoth Screen and [Agatha Christie Limited] jump right in there with me.
“It’s like going on an extended train journey with a genius sat next to you, whispering the secrets of storytelling into your ear.”
The story is set in England, 1954 when – on a train to London – “a man going by the name of Luke Fitzwilliam meets Miss Pinkerton, who tells him that a killer is on the loose in the sleepy English village of Wychwood under Ashe”.
In a press release, the BBC added: “The villagers believe the deaths are mere accidents, but Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise – and when she’s later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Luke feels he must find the killer before they can strike again.
“Because for a certain kind of person, murder is easy…”
Casting will be announced in due course.
James Prichard, executive producer for Agatha Christie Limited, added: “This is one of my great grandmother’s best and most disconcerting titles. Of course, murder isn’t easy. Or is it if you live in a traditional unsuspecting English village?”
And Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, commented “Agatha Christie on the BBC has become a classic combination, and in ‘Murder is Easy’ we have one of the Queen of Crime’s finest page-turners in a new adaptation that both speaks to us today and honours her incredible talent for brilliantly entertaining, skilfully told mystery.
“BBC One and iPlayer viewers will be gripped.”

Alden Ehrenreich hopes to play Han Solo again

OHMYGOSSIP — Alden Ehrenreich is keen to play Han Solo again.
The 33-year-old actor starred as a younger version of the ‘Star Wars’ hero in the 2018 film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and hopes to reprise the role as he feels he is yet to explore the character properly.
Quizzed about a return, Alden told Uproxx: “If it was the right iteration and the right thing, I would love it. Because, for me, in the first movie you watch him become Han. I got to be Han Solo for the last 15 minutes of the movie, maybe. And so being Han Solo is the fun part.
“And I have no f****** idea if there is ever a world where any of the happens, and if it happens, great, if it doesn’t, whatever.
“But it was really great to… that’s what’s appealing to me about it because in a way they built this sort of origin story for when he becomes who he is, but then that guy is the guy that’s really fun and it’s a ball to play that character specifically.”
The movie was directed by Ron Howard, who recently confessed that a sequel to the space Western was unlikely to be made.
The 68-year-old filmmaker said: “The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for ‘Solo’ is coming from the fans at this point.
“I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.”
However, Ron doesn’t believe that another ‘Solo’ flick is completely out of the question.
He said: “There’s some great characters launched, and the folks from Lucasfilm love the fans and really do listen so I would never say never – but I’m not aware of any concrete plans right now to extend the story or deal with that particular set of characters.”

Steven Spielberg has ‘no idea’ about his next movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Spielberg has “no idea” what his next film is going to be.
The legendary director recently helmed the semi-autobiographical film ‘The Fabelmans’ but revealed that he is in the strange position of being uncertain about what comes next after being on the “bullet train” of constantly making movies.
Speaking at the Berlin International Film Festival – where he was honoured with the Honorary Golden Bear award – on Tuesday (20.02.23), Spielberg said: “I don’t know what I’m going to do next. I have no idea.
“And it’s kind of a nice feeling, and it’s also a horrible feeling. It’s nice that I can actually have control of my life again and make my own choices. But I need to work and I love to work. That’s the biggest question I’m going to have for the rest of the year, trying to figure this out.”
‘The Fabelmans’ is loosely based on Spielberg’s childhood and early years as a director and the ‘Jaws’ helmer explained that the coronavirus pandemic inspired him to make the deeply personal flick – which has received seven Oscar nominations.
The 76-year-old filmmaker said: “The fear I felt about the pandemic gave me the courage to tell my personal story.
“(It made me ask) if there was one movie I hadn’t made yet that I would now have time to make, what would that be?
“I always wanted to tell the story about my mother and my father, my sisters, and this amazing struggle between art and family.
“It’s come out in all my films. All my films are really personal, and many of them are about family. But nothing that is so specific to my experiences as ‘The Fabelmans’.”

Hilary also said: “It feels so so amazing, so liberating and so satisfying to have made it through. I would never have thought I would get this far at all.
“I definitely left there a changed person, not just for a while but forever. I feel so empowered and honoured to say that I have completed something like that.”
Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham – who presented the six-part series with help from fellow veterans Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver – congratulated the trio for making it through the “tough f****** course”.
He said: “Take a breath, relax, it’s been a tough f****** course, so it’s a massive achievement for all of you right now standing in front of us.
“The question we always ask is – could we have that person stood next to us? Number seven (Faye), the answer was no, but for the remainder of you – congratulations, good effort you’ve all passed the selection process.
“Well done! F****** good effort! Congratulations to all of you – it’s a massive achievement.”

BBC, Netflix and ITV ban corsets in period dramas

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC, Netflix and ITV are banning corsets in costume dramas.
The tightly bound bodices have been a long time fixture in TV shows such as ‘Bridgerton’, ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Jane Eyre’ as reference to a time when there was pressure to have tiny waists.
However, The Sun newspaper reports that TV bosses are now concerned about the health effects for actresses wearing them for up to 14 hours a day on set.
It’s said ‘Bridgerton’ producers have told the cast of the Netflix show that they don’t have to use them.
ITV has joined in the boycott, and the BBC is also expected to follow suit.
An insider said: “Many stars have reported bruising and even breathing problems.”
Michelle Dockery – who plays Lady Mary Crawley in the ‘Downton Abbey’ series and movies – previously opened up about her delight when the franchise moved into the 1920s, which meant she and her cast mates could get out of the corsets and start eating a proper lunch without being “in pain”.
She said: “We could actually eat our lunches without being sort of in pain by the afternoon, and being able to eat a full meal as opposed to like being wary of how much we would feel bloated in this corset.
“So we were so relieved to get out of them.
“Yes, so it really sort of freed us up. I loved moving into the Twenties, that was my favourite.”
Meanwhile, Simone Ashley – who plays Kate Sharma in ‘Bridgerton’ – revealed that wearing a corset on the show has changed her figure.
The actress – who also starred as Olivia Hanan in ‘Sex Education’ – explained: “With ‘Bridgerton’, it’s much more intense than ‘Sex Education’ in the sense that if I’m not filming, I’m horse riding, training or in rehearsals. I’m in accent training or I’m in a fitting.
“I’ve never really worn a corset before, so that took some getting used to! My body definitely changed a little bit wearing it and that kind of changed my posture a lot to suit the era. Horse riding … I’ve never really ridden before.”

Kathy Burke is fronting a new documentary about old age

OHMYGOSSIP — Kathy Burke is making a documentary about old age, ‘Growing Up’.
The former ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme’ star got her old showbiz pals like Jennifer Saunders, Bill Bailey and Charlotte Church and a whole host of experts to get to grips with the reality of getting on in later years for a new Channel 4 programme.
The 58-year-old comedian told the Daily Mirror newspaper’s Square Eyes column: “My motivation for presenting a documentary about age is that it’s a subject we’re all fascinated about. Were our school days the best years of our lives? What do the younger generation think of us old-timers and is youth really wasted on the young?”
Kathy thought it was “great” to meet loads of different people for the two-parter – which will air on March 7 and 8 – and even picked up some things for her own life.
She said: “It was great meeting people of all ages and walks of life to ponder these questions. It also gave me tips on how to deal with my own approaching older age, which isn’t as gloomy as I thought.”
In December, the ‘Kevin and Perry Go Large’ star opened up about the menopause contributing to her having “pretty dark suicidal thoughts” but is “f****** delighted” that she made it through them.
Kathy said: “I started to have pretty dark suicidal thoughts. I’ve always had bouts of depression, but this was something else entirely. I don’t mind telling you that it was quite frightening, how I felt.”
She added: “Oh but I’m so glad I didn’t kill myself during menopause. Because that would have been, ‘Well, she killed herself because she was so miserable.’ You know? And to end feeling miserable? That would have been a bit of a shame. But listen, that didn’t happen. I came through the other side, and I’m f****** delighted I did.”

Kris Marshall praises Ruth Madoc for Beyond Paradise role

OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Marshall says Ruth Madoc is “wonderful” in ‘Beyond Paradise’.
The 49-year-old actor – who is reprising his role as DI Humphrey Goodman in the BBC’s upcoming ‘Death In Paradise’ spin-off – has praised the late ‘Hi-de-Hi’ actress after she died aged 79 following surgery for a fall in December, and the show will mark her final TV appearance.
He told the Metro newspaper: “I grew up watching ‘Hi-de-Hi’ with my family when I was young. We used to light a fire and toast crumpets watching it, which does sound a bit twee but it’s true.
“Ruth’s relationship with the actor Simon Cadell was so integral to that show. It’s a tragedy what happened but she is wonderful in this.”
Kris is excited to return as Humphrey for the BBC One show alongside Sally Bretton as Martha Lloyd, swapping the Caribbean for the fictional town of Shipton Abbott in Devon.
Reflecting on the change of scenery, the actor teased: “The puzzles are very ‘south-westerly.’ The crimes are uniquely of that area. The first episode has this haunted puzzle.
“We’ve got a family that just disappears off the face of the earth, an art theft which is like a caper, a man who is seemingly abducted by aliens found dead in the middle of a crop circle and an arsonist who is obsessed with the story of the Three Little Pigs.”
Meanwhile, the on screen couple find themselves in an “interesting dynamic” as adjust to life in a the spare room of Martha’s mum Anne’s small cottage.
She added: “It’s an interesting dynamic. It’s small and you’re back home in the back bedroom.
“There is that feeling of your grown-up self and your child self all in the same place at the same time. That’s difficult to navigate.”
‘Beyond Paradise’ stars on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Friday (24.02.23).

Pixar chief Pete Docter teases ‘surprising’ Toy Story 5

OHMYGOSSIP — Pixar boss Pete Docter thinks that ‘Toy Story 5’ will “surprise” audiences.
Disney recently confirmed that a fifth movie in the animated franchise was in development and the animator has told fans to expect the unexpected with the new flick.
Pete told The Wrap: “I think it’ll be surprising. It’s got some really cool stuff that you haven’t seen before.”
Pixar’s chief creative officer explained that there has been no long-term planning in the ‘Toy Story’ franchise and says that the creative process takes them to “unexpected places” when making pictures.
Pete – who has directed Pixar movies such as ‘Monsters, Inc.’ and ‘Up’ – said: “The thing we’ve been really trying to do, and this has been the case for a while, is we’ve been looking at them a little bit like, okay, we’re not planning for the future. When we made the first ‘Toy Story’, we had no idea there would be a ‘Toy Story 2’.
“We’re just trying to make this movie. But that in making the movie, it takes you places, unexpected places, which is what I love about the creative process. If I knew exactly what I was doing when I started making a movie, there’d kind of be no point in making it. I discover so much along the way.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Toy Story’ spin-off ‘Lightyear’ bombed at the box office when it was released last summer and Docter thinks there was a “disconnect” between Angus MacLane’s movie and the original franchise.
The 54-year-old animator said: “It was much more of a science fiction. And Angus, to his credit, took it very seriously and genuinely and wanted to represent those characters as real characters. But the characters in ‘Toy Story’ are much broader, and so I think there was a disconnect between what people wanted/expected and what we were giving to them.”

Bette Midler snubbed Sister Act because she didn’t want to wear a nun’s habit

OHMYGOSSIP — Bette Midler turned down the chance to star in ‘Sister Act’ because she didn’t want to wear a nun costume.
The 77-year-old star was offered the chance to feature in the 1992 comedy film as Deloris Van Cartier but rejected the movie as she was “afraid” of wearing the habit.
Bette told Variety: “I turned them down. They came to me with ‘Sister Act’ and I said, ‘My fans don’t want to see me in a wimple.’ Can you believe that? How off the wall is that? How crazy is that?
“(Walt Disney Studios boss) Jeffrey Katzenberg called me every day, ‘Please, please.’ I stood my ground because I was really afraid of the costume. Isn’t that amazing? I can wear anything but a nun’s habit?”
The lead role ultimately went to Whoopi Goldberg and Bette praised her performance in the movie, which proved to be a big success.
The actress and singer said: “Whoopi wore it all the way to the bank. So God bless her. And she was perfect for it.”
Despite her distaste for the nun’s habit, Bette has been happy to wear a number of outrageous costumes during her prolific screen career.
The ‘First Wives Club’ star said: “I’ve worn them all. I have been an old lady, a young lady, a witch, a mermaid, a showgirl, a stripper, a bad lounge singer. I’ve run the gamut. And I have to say, it’s been a blast.”
Bette also had the chance to play the antagonist Annie Wilkes in the classic horror film ‘Misery’ but turned down the part – which was taken by Kathy Bates – as it was “too violent”.
She explained: “I just couldn’t. It was too violent.
“The character was so not funny, so without any qualities of redemption. She cut off his foot. Come on. Who does that?”
