Emmerdale stars can sit out ‘triggering’ storylines

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ stars don’t have to take part in “triggering” storylines.
The ITV soap’s bosses “pre-warn” the cast when they are looking to delve into “serious” plot points and give them opportunity to remove themselves from the scenes.
Producer Laura Shaw told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “With any serious or triggering subject matter, we pre-warn anyone on it what we’re doing, and why, and to talk to us if there’s anything worrying them.”
Due to the nature of some storylines, the team acknowledges that things can be “uncomfortable at times” for some actors.
Laura added: “The subject matter can be uncomfortable at times. We have to make sure everyone is absolutely okay with that and anyone isn’t doesn’t need to work on it.”
One of the most recent sensitive storylines is Paddy Kirk battle with clinical depression an the actor behind the character Dominic Brunt admitted to feeling “supported” with the “huge” obligation to do the condition suffered by millions justice.
The 52-year-old soap star told the outlet: “I felt a huge sense of responsibility on my shoulders to try and get it right.
“I felt supported. I’ve got an hour’s drive home, get the radio back on and make sure I got some sleep that night.”
Dominic recently remarked on “the mechanics” of showing Paddy’s deteriorating mental health and how important he found doing it justice.
He said: “The mechanics of how it was going to work and who was being involved and the scale of it, and it kind of transcends the normal storylines that were normally given.
“I think the only time I’ve had something like this before was when when Aaron came out, and it mattered to people.
“I remember an uncle that was kind of that you know that generational kind of bigotry that’s there and he watched it and went yeah, I understand that.
“I was hoping that this story might do that that it might actually make a difference and normalize talking.”

Russell T Davies only came home to Doctor Who because there are stories he ‘wants to write’

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies only returned to ‘Doctor Who’ because he has stories he “wanted to write”.
The showrunner – who was originally at the helm of the BBC’s sci-fi favourite when it relaunched in 2005 before leaving four years later – is back in charge with David Tennant back later this year as the 14th Doctor, while ‘Sex Education’ star Ncuti Gatwa will then take over the TARDIS as the 15th Doctor.
Reflecting on his own return, Russell told ‘Table Manners’ podcast hosts Jessie and Lennie Ware: “It is lovely, I only came back because I had things to do, things I wanted to do and stories I wanted to write.
“It doesn’t feel like I am going back as cliche as it sounds, it feels like I am going forward.”
He pointed to his own lifelong passion for ‘Doctor Who’, and he feels fortunate to still be part of its rich history.
He added: “The fact that I have loved that show my entire life and it is my first memory in life, not my first memory of television but my first memory in life… and remember all those years later it becomes the number one show in Britain it’s like, how lucky am I? Very, very lucky.”
Elsewhere on the podcast, Russell reflected on the amazing reaction for his drama ‘It’s A Sin’, which was set in London between 1981 and 1991 and followed a group of gay men and their friends during the HIV/AIDS crisis in the UK.
He said: “We are all so proud of it and it is literally life changing for us but it is so hard to celebrate because it is so sad.”
Russell has also worked on the likes of ‘Years and Years’, ‘Queer As Folk’. and ‘Nolly’, and he’s worked with range of talented stars bringing his words to life.
Responding to the idea of actors being “quite tense”, he explained: Yes but I like them when they are tense and high maintenance, I understand that because it is their face on screen.
“I can sit there type and they have to do it in front of a camera, I admire them for doing it.”

Will Mellor puts tracker on daughter’s phone over police safety concerns

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor has put a tracker app on his daughter’s phone following concerns over police safety.
The 46-year-old actor – who has 18-year-old Jayden and 14-year-old Renee with his wife Michelle McSween – is fronting a new documentary series ‘Cops Who Kill’ on Crime+, delving into eight vile cases of police officers committing murder, including Wayne Couzens, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Sarah Everar in 2021.
After putting a tracker on his youngest daughter’s device, he told OK! Magazine: “It’s so important.
“I said to her, ‘I’m not spying on you but if anything happens, I know where you are.’
“I am protective of people but my kids are my world and you just want to protect innocence.”
The ‘Coronation Street’ star also discussed the way his daughters each react to his fame, admitting while his eldest girl is more “laid-back” about his life on the spotlight, Renee isn’t quite as comfortable.
He said: “Jayden is really laid-back about it all, but Renee gets quite embarrassed!
“I picked her up from school the other day and there was a group of kids waving at me frantically.
“She got in the car like, ‘Drive! Drive! Drive!’ She’s great at spotting when people are secretly filming and taking pictures though.”
The former ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’ star recently appeared on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
At the time, he admitted he wouldn’t have got as far as he did in the competition without his wife’s support.
He said: “Thanks so much to ‘Strictly’ for giving me the memories for my mum, my family, my sisters, my kids, and my wife Michelle who has been by my side every time I come home moaning and aching, and she is running my baths.
“Without her it would have been really tough.”

Michael B. Jordan knew he was the right director for Creed III

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael B. Jordan felt that it was a “natural progression” to direct ‘Creed III’.
The 36-year-old star makes his directorial debut in the latest ‘Rocky’ spin-off film and thinks that it was the appropriate move to helm the flick after almost a decade of playing Adonis Creed.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Michael said: “It’s a story I know very well. It’s a character that I know very well. Playing this guy for nine years, it was a natural progression.
“I think I was at the right age, the right time, the right experience, to step behind the camera and have something to say. I didn’t feel that anybody else could tell the story like me, so I just decided to do it.”
The movie tells the story of Adonis being taken away from enjoying quality time with his wife Bianca (Tessa Thompson) and their daughter to fight his old friend Damian ‘Dame’ Anderson (Jonathan Majors) – a former boxing prodigy who has just been released from prison – and Michael wanted the picture to combine both past and present for his alter ego.
He explained: “I wanted it to feel like an origin story and a sequel all in one.
“To do that we had to go back to the past and find out about those transformative years of Adonis.”
Michael admits that it felt authentic when he stepped into the ring with Majors and was determined to pour his heart into Adonis.
The ‘Fruitvale Station’ star said: “It definitely felt pretty real, man, with the music and the atmosphere and the intensity. Jonathan is a very serious actor. When we were throwing punches and swinging, we were in the middle of a fight. It was intense and it felt like fight night every night.”
Jordan added: “The things that Adonis is going through, I’ve gone through in my own different ways.
“Acting is bringing a piece of you and pouring it into the character. This film is taking a piece of me (as director) and pouring it into the film.”

Jason Statham: Guy Ritchie thrives under pressure

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Statham embraces the chaos when working with Guy Ritchie.
The 55-year-old actor teams up with the director once again on the new film ‘Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre’ and explained how spontaneity brings the best out of the filmmaker.
Jason told Collider: “I think Guy likes to put himself under pressure. He likes to throw the script out of the window. He likes to figure out how he can make something out of nothing. And I think that imminent pressure brings out the best of him.
“It’s a weird, very unusual thing, but the more difficult of a day that’s in front of him, the better he is as a director. The more pressure, the more flourishing is his dialogue.
“It just comes from nowhere, and you know, you’ll spend half an hour in the trailer, and he’ll be hashing it together, and at the end of the day, it looks like he spent weeks and weeks constructing these great scenes because they’re full of this original dialogue. It’s an amazing thing to see.”
Jason – who has worked with Ritchie on movies such as ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’ – admits that it often feels like an acting “workshop” under the guidance of the director.
The action star explained: “So the idea is, don’t get attached to anything, don’t learn your lines, try not to be attached to any of the scenes that you think you might be shooting, and just turn up.
“It’s like a workshop almost. It’s a very tricky thing.”
Despite the challenges, Jason enjoys working with Guy and is keen to do so again once he makes a sequel to ‘The Meg’.
He said: “I think it might be nice to have a little break. He’ll shoot one, I’ll shoot one, we’ll come back and figure something out. We enjoy the process, we love what we do, and we love it more when we’re doing it together.”

Jeremy Clarkson axed as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson has been axed as the host of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ by ITV.
The channel’s boss Dame Carolyn McCall has confirmed that the forthcoming series of the quiz show will mark the end of the 62-year-old broadcaster’s five-year tenure on the programme after he sparked outrage with a newspaper column he wrote about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Clarkson wrote in The Sun newspaper in December that he was “dreaming of the day” that the duchess would be forced to “parade naked through the streets” while crowds threw “excrement” at her and ITV have confirmed that they have no plans to renew his contract on the show following the backlash.
McCall told Variety: “We have a contract. We’re contracted to this (season), so we will do that.
“And then we have no further commitments. And we haven’t made any statements about that.”
McCall pointed out that ITV had been quick to condemn Clarkson’s controversial column and the response reflected her thoughts on ‘The Grand Tour’ host’s comments – which he later contacted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to apologise for.
She said: “There was no dissent internally. We came out much quicker than anybody else, Amazon included.
“We just came out and said, ‘Yes, we do not endorse a single word that he said on that. And there’s no place for that on ITV.’ So we came out very quickly and just said, you know, that wasn’t on ITV. But we don’t endorse that in any way. And there’s no place for that on ITV.”
Clarkson’s Amazon Prime Video shows ‘The Grand Tour’ and ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ have also been at the centre of speculation and it was reported earlier this year that the streaming service had no plans to work with the presenter beyond seasons of the two programmes that had already been commissioned.

Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda chopped from ‘Love Island’ – but there’s a twist!

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda are the latest contestants to get the boot from ‘Love Island’.
Host Maya Jama announced on Wednesday (01.03.23) night’s episode of the ITV2 dating show the pair, who were in a couple, were getting the chop, after Olivia was branded a “villain” by fans and “fake” by her castmate Jessie Wynter.
But there was a twist in the exit when Maya announced the pair would choose which two contestants would be next to leave.
She said: “The couple with the fewest votes and therefore dumped from the island is Olivia and Maxwell.
“Islanders, I have some more news – Olivia and Maxwell are not the only ones leaving. Two more Islanders will also be dumped tonight.
“That decision is not down to the public or your fellow Islanders. It’s actually down to you – Olivia and Maxwell.”
The identity of the two they choose will be under wraps until Thursday (02.03.23) night’s show.
Olivia and Maxwell’s exit came after Maya told the castmates there had been a public vote to decide the most compatible couples, with those with the fewest votes at risk of getting ditched from the show.
Along with Olivia and Maxwell, Claudia Fogarty and Keanan Brand, Rosie Seabrook and Casey O’Gorman and Tanya Manhenga and Shaq Muhammad were left in the firing line, before the pair got the news they were going home.
Asked about how she felt about leaving, Olivia said: “Obviously it’s sad to leave these guys.
“But I’ve found what I came looking for so I’m happy to be leaving with (Maxell.)”
Love Island continues on Thursday (02.03.23) on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm, and can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Christine McGuinness confirms new documentary: ‘I’m excited, nervous and proud’

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine McGuinness has confirmed her new documentary will be released later this month, and she is “nervous” to share the short film with viewers.
The 34-year-old star has revealed ‘Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism’ will air on March 15th on the BBC, and she hopes the programme will help “thousands of autistics feel understood, recognised and valued”.
She wrote on Instagram: “Finally I can give you a date!
My new documentary..
“Christine McGuinness: unmasking my autism”
15th March on @bbc @bbciplayer ⠀
I’m excited, nervous and proud to present this incredible short film that I truly hope and believe will help thousands of autistics feel understood, recognised and valued. (sic)”
It comes after recent reports that Christine was making a solo documentary about the lifelong developmental disability – which she was diagnosed with aged 33 – after her first effort, ‘Our Family and Autism’, alongside ex-husband Paddy McGuinness, 49, landed her a National Television Award.
In January, a source said: “Christine was shocked by how autism is seen as something mostly affecting men and what felt like a gender bias in diagnosis.
“The second film follows her on a journey in search of answers for the thousands of other women like herself in the UK, who are spending years undiagnosed or masking their symptoms to the detriment of their mental health.”
Christine – who has nine-year-old twins Leo and Penelope and seven-year-old daughter Felicity, who all have the condition, with Paddy – is to embark on “an incredibly personal journey” on the documentary.
A source added: “This second film is an incredibly personal journey for Christine as she investigates why it took so long for her to find her own truth and learns it’s indicative of systemic failings for other women and girls.
“It’s taken on additional weight as her first solo project.
“Away from Paddy, she’s been part of ensemble casts like The Real ‘Housewives Of Cheshire’ and ITV’s ‘The Games’ but this is Christine, standing alone and owning her space.”

Ron Hall asks Lana Jenkins to be his girlfriend on Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins have become the first official couple on ‘Love Island.’
The 25-year-old financial advisor has been dating make-up artist Lana, 25, on the hit ITV2 reality show for a number of weeks now but in scenes aired on Sunday (26.02.23), he asked her to officially become his girlfriend.
Speaking to Lana as part of a private chat, he said: “I know I joke about you not being able to show your feelings but I know you do. We’ve known how each other feels for a long time now and we’ve been holding back. We’re stronger than ever and I don’t think anyone comes close.
“I’ve never had a relationship for anything like that so for me it’s a massive thing. I know we’ve talked about going exclusive that’s not enough for me. I want you to be my girlfriend. It’s been in my head for days, wondering how to do it and I couldn’t wait any longer.”
Through tears, Lana accepted his proposal as she kissed him and said: “Yes! Why are you so cute?”
After becoming the series’ first exclusive couple, Lana spoke of becoming Ron’s first-ever girlfriend and remarked that the way in which he asked the question was “perfect” as she claimed to have known this was going to happen since they first met.
She said: “I am Ron’s first-ever girlfriend. It was so nice, and I feel like Ron just did it in the best way and it was perfect! I came in here looking for love. I knew this was gonna happen, I predicted it. Maybe I should be Mystic Meg!”
Elsewhere, recruitment consultant Casey O’Gorman, 26, recoupled with bombshell arrival Rosie Seabrook, 24, after more than two weeks of dating Claudia Fogarty and tried to explain to his former flame that he is confused over how he feels about either girl.
He said: “I guess that’s maybe why I’m in the situation that I am. I don’t think after two weeks of getting to know someone that I’ve been absolutely all on them. I really like Rosie. I just wanted to check in and see if you were all right. I don’t feel ready to make a decision, I really don’t. I’m in a situation…it’s not that I feel now more towards her but I don’t know where I’m at. I know that’s so hard to hear because you want more than that. Maybe I need to sleep on it.
Claudia replied: “I wanna be how we were but I can’t. The only thing that’s getting me is that I’m an option and I never wanted to be an option. That’s what I’m struggling with that you can’t decide whether you like another girl more than me that you’ve known for two days over someone who you’ve known for two and a half weeks. I’m not here to waste time.”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX and can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Dancing On Ice’ judge Jayne Torvill is to undergo surgery after injuring her arm.
The 65-year-old former Olympic champion appeared on Sunday night’s (26.02.23) show wearing a green sparkly sling which matched her dress and she explained she had hurt her bicep tendon and needs to have an operation to fix it.
She told show host Phillip Schofield: “Talking of things going wrong on the ice … I’ve ruptured my bicep tendon I’m going to need surgery … I’ll be fine and we will be back on the ice soon.”
It comes after a number of contestants suffered falls on the ice in the run up to Sunday’s show.
Dailymail.com reports Carly Stenson, Nile Wilson and Mollie Gallagher all took tumbles during rehearsals but managed to escape injury. A source told the publication: “There have been lots of falls this week for the celebs. The 40-year-old actress – who is best known for her role as Steph Cunningham in Channel 4 soap opera ‘Hollyoaks’ – had been taking part in the ITV skating competition alongside Mark Hanretty but became emotional after missing out on a place in next week’s semi-finals. Speaking on Sunday’s episode, she told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “It just got harder. I’m gonna miss this man. I’ve really enjoyed it, this is all a bit of a blur actually.”

Ollie Locke and husband Gareth expecting twins via surrogate

OHMYGOSSIP — Ollie Locke and his husband Gareth are expecting twins via surrogate.
The 35-year-old ‘Made In Chelsea’ star confirmed the happy news in a post on Instagram revealing the couple’s double bundle of joy will be arriving this summer putting an end to their heartbreaking three-year journey towards parenthood.
In his message, Ollie wrote: “We are beyond delighted to finally be able to share the news that we are expecting twin baby Locke-Locke’s into the world this summer!
“You have all been so wonderful throughout the last 3 years of us trying to have a family and we promise to share every step of this adventure with you all. For all those on their own journey to become parents we are with you and sending all the baby dust your way!
“Thank you to our sensational surrogate @bex7ward for being the most incredible human, the love we have for you and your family is just another level! Xx.”
It comes just months after Ollie revealed back in December the couple had experienced an agonising setback as their surrogate had suffered a miscarriage.
Ollie admitted it left him feeling “demasculated” that they were unable to conceive. Speaking on the Bali special of his E4 show, Ollie said: “We just can’t believe it’s happened again.” Gareth added: “This is our third time. Every time it’s like … ‘Oh well next time surely it’s going to happen.’ “It feels like every time you’re going to have to redo it, it just feels like it’s a bit, a step further away. “Obviously we’re in a very fortunate position, we can go again. But you know it’s not, it’s not easy.”
Ollie added to his co-stars Emily Blackwell and Miles Nazaire: “Can I tell you something really savage as well? And this is a weird, personal thing, and I know this isn’t how I should be feeling. And I know this, but I get so embarrassed. I haven’t even called my dad yet. Because I’m embarrassed by …
“I’ll tell you the reason is, weirdly, I feel demasculated. And I know that’s really silly, but this is me talking frankly to you guys, and I know I shouldn’t feel like that, but I feel embarrassed that it hasn’t worked for us.
“And it’s so stupid, but I’m just waiting for long enough, for someone to tell dad, so I don’t have to. But embarrassment is such a weird emotion, to have when it’s actually like, that should be the last of your thoughts.”

Danny Dyer enjoyed ‘the best holiday ever’ in the Maldives

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer spent £140,000 on a holiday in the Maldives after quitting ‘EastEnders’.
The 45-year-old actor – who previously played Mick Carter on the BBC soap – has revealed that he blew an eye-watering amount of money on a lavish holiday over Christmas.
Danny – who starred on ‘EastEnders’ between 2013 and 2022 – told The Times Magazine: “It cost £140,000. Best holiday we’ve ever had. It was a reward for the last year, which was one of the busiest I’ve ever had.”
The actor – who has Dani, 26, Sunnie, 15, and Artie, nine, with Joanne Mas – was determined to make the most of his free time.
He explained: “It was an horrific shooting schedule. The trip was a complete extravagance but then why do you earn money?
“One reason I left ‘EastEnders’ was because I wasn’t around enough.
“You’ve got to try and get in there early with your holiday, because otherwise they give you a holiday in February, and who wants to go on holiday in February?”
Meanwhile, Danny previously admitted to feeling “very emotional” when he left ‘EastEnders’.
However, the actor also revealed that he stank while shooting his final scenes, in which his landlord alter-ego got lost at sea.
He said: “My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am. We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank. But ‘EastEnders’ couldn’t get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon.
“It’s all warm and lovely but to make it look like the sea they put broccoli juice in it. You smell of a***. It’s f****** broccoli juice. Warm broccoli juice. It was very emotional, but I stunk.
“If it goes t*** up I can go back. I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed…
“They wanted to keep it open. I’m very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life.”

Dame Sheila Hancock wants to ‘leave the world a happy place’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Sheila Hancock wants to “leave the world a happy place”.
The 90-year-old actress is determined to remain optimistic and “full of life” – despite the ongoing challenges facing people around the world.
Sheila told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It is really difficult now to be not angry, isn’t it?
“I won’t be here much longer realistically and I would like to leave the world a happy place, lovely and full of life.
“There are many natural disasters at the moment like those poor people caught up in the Turkey earthquake.
“And then of course the everlasting worry about the planet. It is terrifying if you read about it.”
The veteran star was outspoken about various social and political issues – including Brexit, the COVID-19 lockdown and inequality – in her memoir, ‘Old Rage’.
However, Sheila is “angrier than ever” under the current administration led by new prime minister Rishi Sunak, arguing that he doesn’t appreciate the arts.
Sheila said: “How dare they cut arts funding and say children need to do more maths?
“We need culture in this country. To say maths is a priority and the arts isn’t is crazy. The arts make life worth living.
“We are blessed with a lot of theatres in this country and it is essential for our mental and physical health. The arts means a lot now.”
The actress also slammed politician Lee Anderson for supporting the reintroduction of the death penalty.
Sheila said: “Somebody has just been appointed by Rishi Sunak who believes we should bring back hanging.
“These are leaders who we should look up to. How can anybody say that? We hanged people who were innocent in the past.”
