John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu to star in action-comedy film Grand Death Lotto

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu are to star in Prime Video action-comedy ‘Grand Death Lotto’.
The 45-year-old professional wrestler-turned-actor will executive produce the Amazon Studios film alongside Zack Roth and Rob Yescombe, who will pen the script, and Paul Feig will direct the movie.
Feig said: “I love action comedy and extreme physical comedy and this movie has both in abundance, as well as a boatload of heart and hilarity.
“This lotto will make winners of us all.”
Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon and MGM Studios, added: “Grand Death Lotto is the kind of original idea audiences have been craving, and there’s no one better than the endlessly talented Paul Feig to steer the ship.
“We can’t wait to watch John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu bring this fun, action-packed script to life for our Prime Video customers around the world.”
The film will tell the story of a Grand Lottery, which is established in economically-challenged California in the “very near future”.
But if someone kills the winner before sundown they can legally claim their prize.
New LA transplant Katie (Awkwafina) accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket and has to join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena) to make it to sundown in order to claim her multi-billion dollar prize.
Liu will portray the part of Noel’s protection rival Louis Lewis.
Production on the film will start next week, and the Amazon Original Movie will be available to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Cena stars in HBO Max’s ‘Peacemaker’ as his DC character of the same name, which he first portrayed in 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ for Warner Bros.

Ex-Love Island star Claudia Fogarty: It was the right decision to dump me from the villa

OHMYGOSSIP — Claudia Fogarty believes it was the “right decision” for her to be dumped from ‘Love Island’.
The 28-year-old star – who is the daughter of motorcycle racing legend Carl Fogarty – and Keanan Brand exited the villa during Thursday night’s (02.03.23) episode after fellow dumpees Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda picked them to also leave the ITV2 dating show.
But Claudia believes it was the correct choice, because she and Keanan were only in a friendship couple after Casey O’Gorman recoupled with new bombshell Rosie Seabrook.
She said: “It’s a bittersweet feeling considering the whole Casey situation and there wasn’t anyone else for me after that.
“I left with Kenan which was lovely and I’m excited to see my family now.
“It would have been nice to stay if someone came in for me but Olivia and Maxwell picking me and Keanan was the right decision, everyone else had a connection and we didn’t.”
Rosie chose Casey to go on a date with when she first entered the show, and Claudia admits she had a “feeling” his head might turn.
She said: “I knew as soon as we got the text, I just had a feeling, maybe it was because we were still quite new and he was a slow burner. My instincts told me that if anyone’s head would turn it would be Casey’s.
“I think he dragged it out a bit towards the end. I struggle to understand how you can have a connection with someone for three weeks and then all of a sudden have a connection with another girl after three days if you’re a slow burner.”
But Claudia doesn’t have any “hard feelings” towards Casey, and has wished him and Rosie “all the best”.
She said: “I’ve got no hard feelings towards him, he didn’t handle it in the best way but it’s hard if you like someone else.
“I hope Rosie and him are happy together, I genuinely wish them all the best.”

Emmerdale’s Dominic Brunt made huge change to usual work process for heart-breaking plot

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ star Dominic Brunt admits he is usually “a pawn” at work but he felt “included” in the whole process during his character’s suicide bid storyline.
The 52-year-old actor is currently playing out a hard-hitting plot in which his alter-ego Paddy Kirk is struggling with his mental health after a build up of isolation, grief and confusion, and it sees him saying his goodbyes to pals as his deep depression intensifies.
Dominic – who has portrayed Paddy on the ITV1 soap since 1997 – admitted he usually just “moves where people move” during his storylines, and while he felt “a “huge sense of responsibility” with this heart-breaking plot, he was “very looked after” during the process.
He said: “Right from the beginning. It made me feel involved. And I don’t like putting any input into any of the scripts. I am definitely a pawn. I move where people move, and I say what people have written for me. But I really felt included. And I felt a huge sense of responsibility on my shoulders to try and get it right. So I’ve done my best. But I felt very looked after, and very involved. And it made me trust the whole process. Having a peek behind the curtain at the scale of the whole thing.”
Dominic admitted it was “almost easy” to play out the plot because the scripts were “so good”.
Asked how he felt filming some of the hard-hitting scenes, he said: “I just tried my best I couldn’t let myself even open a little door to the, to the black dogs that these people experienced.
“It’s just I was pretending, you know, this, the scripts and the dialogue was so good. And the journey there and the curve was so clear that it was it was almost easy to do.
“However, the emotion that that you had to visit had to be shaken off almost immediately. And I felt I felt supported. But I’ve got an hour’s drive home, get the radio back on and make sure I get some sleep that night.
“I’m not suffering like that. I’m a stupid actor with a script in the hand. However, I was privileged and honoured to serve that story. But it didn’t touch the sides for me, because I know what it’s like for someone to really, really go through that. So yes, I felt fine.”

Jack Kesy to play Hellboy

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Kesy has been cast as the new Hellboy.
The 36-year-old actor will take on the role of the cigar-chomping demon in the upcoming movie ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’.
Brian Taylor is to direct the film that has been written by ‘Hellboy’ comic book creator Mike Mignola and Chris Golden.
The movie is due to shoot in the coming months and sees Hellboy stranded in rural Appalachia during the 1950s with a rookie agent from the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD).
The duo discover a small community that is haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a connection to Hellboy’s past – the Crooked Man.
Kesy is best known for minor roles in the film version of ‘Baywatch’ as well as the superhero blockbuster ‘Deadpool 2’.
Film chiefs are currently in the process of adding to the cast.
‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ is in development at Millennium Media and will be the first picture in the company’s partnership with the German film and TV distributor Telepool – owned by Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Jonathan Yunger, co-President of Millennium Media, said: “Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles.
“His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on ‘The Outpost’.
Millennium acquired the rights to Hellboy in 2018 and cast David Harbour in a reboot the following year, although it bombed at the box office.
Ron Perlman had previously starred as the superhero in two well-regarded movies from director Guillermo del Toro in 2004 and 2008.

The 75-year-old actress has boarded the cast of the movie adaptation of Tove Jansson’s novel alongside Norwegian star Anders Danielsen Lie.
Charlie McDowell will direct and produce for Case Study Films, the production company he co-founded with his wife Lily Collins and film producer Alex Orlovsky.

Tove’s niece Sophia Jansson said: “‘The Summer Book’ is dear to many readers around the world. It is my favourite of Tove Jansson’s books, and it holds a very special place in my heart.
“Every word of it ushers in vivid childhood memories of my beloved grandmother – her voice, her way of relating to and moving around the island. Seeing that story finally come alive on the big screen will be fantastic and moving on a deeply personal level.”

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s daughter Cecile had paranormal experience

OHMYGOSSIP — Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s daughter Cecile had a paranormal experience on ‘Celebrity Help! My House is Haunted’.
The ‘Changing Rooms’ star and his eldest daughter appeared on the Discovery+ show to explore the eerie noises coming from his grandaughter’s nursery in his Cotswolds pile.
The 57-year-old interior designer is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “Cecile, my eldest daughter, feels very strongly that’s she’s had moments where things have happened that she cannot in any way explained.”
Cecile – who has younger sister Hermione – described hearing a sound coming from near her baby’s crib.
She said: “I heard a distinctive ‘shhh’ sound and the baby went silent … I went back to make sure there wasn’t anyone in there with him.
“There wasn’t. The windows were closed. I felt a sort of coldness at the idea of leaving a child in a room with a spirit.”
Throughout the episode, which is set in Laurence’s home that dates back to 17th century, the trio of ghosthunters unearthed lots of spooky sentiments.
At one point, paranormal investigator Barri Ghai told Laurence that he is not “receptive to the paranormal world” unlike Cecile and her mother and Laurence’s wife, Jackie, before bringing out Alice Box, a “psychokinetic ITC device that allows spirits access to a memory bank of thousands of words, helping them to produce responses to questions”.
After they carry out a vigil to summon whatever is around, they stopped after Cecile expressed her discomfort, which researcher Jayne Harris labelled a “clear indication of contact with a spirit for Cecile.”

Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley was ‘always the hunter’ with ex boyfriends

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Riley was “always the hunter” with ex boyfriends.
The ‘Emmerdale’ star has been with her musician fiance Al for nine years, but insists that while it sounds like a “cliché”, she always found it tough to land a man when she was actively looking for a boyfriend.
The 46-year-old actress told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “In my previous relationships, I was always the hunter, out looking for a man.
“I know it sounds like a cliché, but it’s true that when you’re not looking, love can land on your doorstep. I’m proof of that.
“I’d finished ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, I was loving life and enjoying seeing my friends. There was a lot going on – I’d just lost my mum – and another relationship wasn’t on my radar.
“I was hugely guarded when we first met, but how wrong I was! The great thing was, he didn’t know who I was, so he didn’t give a c*** if I was a lollypop lady or working on the bins.”
While recalling their early romance and looking after her young nephews, Lisa gushed about Al adores how she is “bonkers and full of beans” and how his calm approach to life works well.
She said: “We went to a trampoline park, then we went bowling and out for lunch and then we went to an arcade. We were out from ten in the morning until seven.
“Loads of people were coming up for selfies and I was joking with them all. Al said, ‘Will you just please have your lunch, you’re not working today.’
“And my eldest nephew turned to him and said, ‘How do you put up with her!’ But Al would never change me. He loves that I’m bonkers and full of beans and useless at sitting still and I love how relaxed he is.
“We complement each other completely. I’m volume ten and he’s volume three, so he turns me down to a five!”
Despite being engaged since 2018, the ex ‘Waterloo Road’ star – who plays Mandy Dingle on the ITV1 soap – insisted the couple had no “need” to head down the aisle.
Lisa said: “We’ve lost both our mums. And when it comes to things like weddings, you do it for the other people. Both of us talk about it all the time and feel as long as we’re happy we don’t need rings on our fingers.”
“I’m not the kind of girl who wants a big flouncy day with a horse and carriage.
“I’m never going to change my name, so really, what would be different? And I wouldn’t be able to wear a wedding band very much because I’ve always got Mandy’s jewellery on.”

Ex-Love Island star Olivia Hawkins rooting for Lana Jenkins and Ron Hall to win the series

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Love Island’ star Olivia Hawkins is rooting for Lana Jenkins and Ron Hall to win the show.
The 27-year-old actress and grid girl was dumped from the ITV2 dating show this week alongside her partner Maxwell Samuda, and she is now hoping Lana and Ron – who have both been on the show from the start – go the distance and make the programme’s final.
She said: “I’m rooting for Lana and Ron all the way, I just love Lana, I think she’s amazing.
“Ron and I have had our differences but he’s like my brother. I really think they will go the distance.”
Olivia was previously paired up with Kai Fagan on the show, but both brought back new partners following Casa Amor, resulting in them clashing.
But Olivia is now hoping she and Kai can be friends on the outside.
She said: “I hope we go back to being friends when we get out. I don’t want any animosity between us, I have a big heart and I just wish him all the best.”
Shortly before their exit, Olivia and Maxwell became exclusive, and she has now admitted she was gearing up to ask him if he hadn’t asked her.
When quizzed on how the moment was, she said: “I was so happy, I was actually going to do it myself but obviously I wanted him to ask me first.
“I was just so touched that he asked me, it’s the first time that I’ve ever been exclusive with anyone. It’s the start of something new for me which I’m super excited about.
“I’ve never been in love before and I think this could be the start of those feelings. It was an absolute whirlwind experience. I am overjoyed to be leaving with Maxwell just as we became exclusive. I found what I was looking for, so I’m excited to get home and see my friends and family and continue on my journey with Maxwell.”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX and can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

BBC documentary will explore the true story that inspired The Gold

OHMYGOSSIP — A new BBC documentary will explore the true story that inspired ‘The Gold’.
The success of the BBC One series – which tells the story of the notorious Brink’s-Mat theft, stars Hugh Bonneville and Jack Lowden, and uses 80s London’s East End as its backdrop – has led to a new standalone exploration of the £26 million heist, titled ‘The Gold: The Inside Story’.
The programme will feature talking heads from the lead investigators entrusted with the case – which dealt with crimes such as money laundering and stealing 6,800 gold bars – like Detective Chief Superintendent Brian Boyce and DC Tony Yeoman for the first time in nearly four decades.
It will also reflect on the loss of their colleague DC John Fordham, who lost his life while staking out Kenneth Noye.
In the hour-long film, Brian says: “Our task was far greater than just arresting the robbers, we hadn’t even recovered the dust of the gold. We had to work extremely hard, follow the trail and recover as much of the gold as possible.”
Along with their testimony, the documentary – which was commissioned by Jack Bootle – will be made up of archive footage and other eyewitness accounts of the period.
Simon Young, the BBC’s Head of History, said: “Few robberies are as iconic as Brink’s-Mat or have had such a profound effect on the country.
“That’s why it’s so fascinating to hear Brian Boyce and his colleagues give such a frank and unvarnished account of the challenges the police faced in attempting to solve such a colossal crime.”
Recently, Hugh – who plays Brian – asserted his belief that “all forms” of creativity should be allowed to thrive.
He said:“I think we all need to take a huge dose of perspective and allow art to be art.
“All forms of artistic expression should be allowed to breathe. I think respect should always be there – with expression comes responsibility. But I don’t think it’s right to say, ‘I don’t agree with you, therefore you should be cancelled.’ ”

Piers Morgan accuses Dan Walker of ‘milking’ near-death bike crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Piers Morgan has accused Dan Walker of “milking” his recent near-death bike crash.
The 45-year-old Channel 5 news anchor was “glad to be alive” after he was hit by a car while on his bike in Sheffield last week, but Piers – who regularly clashed with Dan when they worked as rivals on ‘Good Morning Britain’ and ‘BBC Breakfast’ respectively – says the TV presenter’s reaction has been as if he has “survived a terror attack”.
He wrote on Twitter: “If I were Dan Walker, and I’d been kicked off Match of the Day and BBC Breakfast, then washed up on Channel 5 daytime, and only got press these days by falling off a bike, getting a few grazes, and milking it like I’d survived a terror attack, I’d be this bitter too.”
His comments came in response to Dan poking fun at Piers this week about an incident in 2021, when he stormed off the ‘GMB’ set after weatherman Alex Beresford accused him of “trashing” Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, live on air.
While presenting the RTS Awards this week, Dan said: “I’ve lost all my inhibitions. It could be a fun night everybody, OK. I’d like to apologise in advance for anything that I might say that is near the knuckle. My idea of where the knuckle is has completely changed within the last ten days.
“To give you an idea of my mental state, let me put it this way: if a weather presenter were to question me in any way, shape, or form, I’m liable to storm off stage in an enormous huff.
“I might even go as far as to start a new TV channel based entirely on my ego, which no-one will watch.”
In response to Piers claiming Dan was “milking” his injuries following his near-death experience, Dan wrote on Twitter: “What a laugh
Interesting idea of taking a lesson on bitterness from a fella who has written article after article attacking a woman who had one drink with him thought he was a numptie
We missed you last night.
You should have come (sic)”
Dan was left battered and bruised with a bloodied face following his bike accident, and he was fortunate to avoid any broken bones.
He wrote on Instagram hours after the incident: “Bit of an accident this morning.
Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene.
This is my smiling
Thankful for our NHS (sic)”

Spencer Matthews heard his brother Michael’s voice for the first time in 24 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Spencer Matthews has heard his late brother Michael Matthews’ voice for the first time since 1999.
The ex ‘Made in Chelsea’ star – who was 10 years old when his big brother went missing during his attempt to climb Mount Everest 24 years ago aged 22 – got to see some unearthed footage in his new Disney+ documentary, ‘Finding Michael’, given to him by his sibling’s climbing partner, Dave Rodney.
In the film, the 34-year-old star said: “Dave in particular brought to the table footage from the 1999 expedition of Mike and Dave climbing and Mike’s attitude to the mountain and I actually had never, prior to flying to Canada to meet Dave, had never seen Mike on camera ever.
“We weren’t the kind of family that made home videos and when I said to mum and dad, when we agreed to make this documentary, I said I need all footage of Mike and they said ‘We don’t have any’.
“Fortunately, Dave had this incredible film that I hadn’t seen so I saw it in Canada for the first time and it’s the first time I’d heard Michael speak since he was alive, since I was 10.”
Dave labelled Spencer’s big brother as the “best mate I could ever have hoped for on the mountain”, as he reflected on the day Michael disappeared.
He continued: “Our dream was to be together on summit day. Sadly, although we climbed every single day of the expedition, together on summit day, we were not.
“I was to be with two other people and he was to be with his guide.
“I only found out the next day that he had not come down and 40 below had become 50 below and breezes became hurricane winds.
“But I’m so pleased that Spencer and Bear and the crew have filmed something that is, I think, going to be not only legendary, it’ll touch absolutely everyone who’s experienced grief and loss and help them through that process.”
Earlier this week, Spencer – who has son Thedore, four, daughter Gigi, two, and son Otto, 11 months, with his wife Vogue Williams, 37 – spoke about the “quite cathartic” experience of making the programme, which includes the first time his mother Jane and sister Nina have talked publicly about their loss.
Spencer said: “We scrapped together any information we had. Some of the footage of Michael on the mountain I’d never seen before.
“It was the first time I’d seen him on camera, because as a kid we didn’t do home movies or anything.
“Retracing his steps and understanding his final days a bit better was quite cathartic for me…”

Zachary Levi delved into his imagination for Shazam! sequel dragon scene

OHMYGOSSIP — Zachary Levi loved “utilising his imagination” for ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.
The 42-year-old star returns as Billy Batson/Shazam in the superhero sequel and relished the opportunity to be creative when his alter ego gets to fight a dragon during the picture.
Quizzed on the sequence by Collider, Zachary recalled: “Well, I first found out I was fighting a dragon when the team pitched me. Before the script was even written they had a treatment for it and I knew that we were gonna go with the Greek goddesses and the dragon, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so cool.’
“And then, what is it like to actually film fighting a dragon? Lots of blue screen, as one could imagine. Some interesting props, like, you know, there’s a scene where I’m pulling on his tail, where we would have a big practical dragon tail, but it was connected to nothing, and then the rest of it’s all CG’d in, you know? So that’s the kind of stuff.”
‘The Mauritanian’ star continued: “Listen, what’s fun about that is, you might not have a real practical thing that you’re interacting with, but you get to utilise your imagination on really, really high levels like you did when you were a kid.
“I mean, you know, you’d run around with nothing in your hands, and me and my buddies would pretend to be X-Men all the time. We had nothing, we didn’t have fake claws to be Wolverine, we just pretended to have them, and your imagination is just kicking on a high level, and I love doing that.”

James Cameron held screening to get honest feedback on Avatar: The Way of Water

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron gathered film fans to give him direct feedback on ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.
The 68-year-old filmmaker and his producing partner Jon Landau attended a screening in Burbank and were joined by an audience who had seen the movie already, with the director requesting their unfiltered thoughts on the flick to help guide the rest of the franchise.
James said at the event: “This is something we’ve never done, which is (ask), ‘How do we make the next film even better for the fans?’ Go talk to them, find out what’s on your mind.
“You guys can be totally honest with us, this is not just about telling us stuff we want to hear. It’s about telling us stuff we… need to work on more.”
Cameron and Landau spent more than an hour getting feedback from the crowd and Jeff Napshin, who attended the event, said that the ‘Titanic’ director took the responses “seriously”.
Napshin told The Hollywood Reporter: “He also joked about some plot screw-ups that he had to deal with in the movie and how the movie plot constantly changed in editing as they tried to find what worked.
“I really believe this experience was unique and special, and as James Cameron said, let’s get together in two years and see if our ideas and feedback made the film.”
Cameron concluded the event by telling the audiences that their feedback will be taken on board for ‘Avatar 3’ – which is set for release in December 2024.
He said: “I just want to assure you guys that you have made a measurable improvement to ‘Avatar 3’ and beyond with your effort here tonight.”
