Davide Sanclimenti not watching current Love Island series: ‘People told me it wasn’t interesting’

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Love Island’ winner Davide Sanclimenti hasn’t been watching the latest series because people told him it “wasn’t interesting”.
The 27-year-old star triumphed on last year’s summer series alongside his girlfriend Ekin-Su Culculoglu, 28, but the Italian star was initially too busy to tune into the current winter version of the ITV2 dating show, and then didn’t fancy it.
Asked if he has been watching the current series, he told The Sun Online: “No I haven’t seen it.
“I didn’t start to watch it because we were busy and then people were telling me it wasn’t interesting so I never started and then we went on holiday.
“I didn’t watch ‘Love Island’ even before I went on it. I just do these shows, not watch them.”
Fans of Davide and Ekin-Su recently sparked speculation they may have got engaged after a romantic trip to the Maldives, but he insists that is not the case and hinted they will be together at least a year before he pops the question.
He added: “I feel like even if everything is going well, there are the right intentions towards the future, but I feel like it’s been just six months.
“So it would be wise to have a relationship for at least one year, two years or at least a bit of time to really be sure before committing for life.
“We talk about it sometimes, we joke about the future and being together and having kids so it’s not something impossible but I don’t think so in the very short term.”
In November, Ekin-Su admitted she would love to move to Italy with Davide when they are older and have had kids.
She said: “I just loved how romantic Italy was, especially where Davide’s from. If I was older, retired, had kids and they’d all grown up, I’d go to his hometown.
“It was beautiful. Italian culture is exactly the same as Turkish – family means everything. All the family are very loving, they love Davide, they love to see me. I really felt a part of the family and I miss them. I felt very looked after.”

Tommy Fury dedicates Jake Paul win to girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague and daughter Bambi: ‘It’s for them’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Fury has dedicated his recent boxing win to his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague and their newborn daughter Bambi.
The former ‘Love Island’ star beat YouTuber Jake Paul by split decision in their bout, billed as The Truth, at the Diriyah Arena, Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday (26.02.23), and Tommy says it was all for his significant other and their little one.
Speaking about Molly-Mae not being able to watch the boxing match live, Tommy told ‘Good Morning Britain’: “It was a crazy feeling, I knew in the build-up that she would never be able to watch just because of how scared she gets for the fights.
“When I did see the video of her finding out that I had won, it was amazing because it was for those two.
“At the end of the day I’ve been in training camp, Molly’s been an absolutely amazing mother, she’s the best woman any man could ever ask for. She’s done everything, all of the hard miles at the start. I owe everything to her and Bambi, so this victory, this win was for them two.”
Tommy admits that while he was delighted with the “career-high pay day”, everything he does nowadays is to ensure his daughter has a “good life”.
He said: “I did very well, it was a career-high payday for me, well not for me should I say because everything I do now in my career is for not for me, it’s for my little girl Bambi.
“Everything I do now is to make sure that she’s happy, a good life for herself but whatever I can do to make sure she has that is enough for me.”
Tommy may soon be receiving some more cash following the bout, as before the fight he and Jake shook hands in a “winner takes all” agreement on live TV, but he is yet to receive the 26-year-old star’s money.
The 23-year-old fighter said: “At the end of the day we were live on television and we shook hands. We’re old-fashioned guys so a handshake means everything to us, but let’s see if he honours it or not.”
Jake recently claimed he made $30 million from the fight, despite losing.
He wrote on Instagram: “When you lost but made $30m.”
Also on ‘GMB’, Tommy admitted he is up for a rematch.
He said: “The rematch is something that I’m definitely wanting because I believe in the rematch I will stop him.
“You know [in] the first fight I’ve never been eight rounds before so you’re just a bit weary of what’s in your tank and how the fight is going to go.
“But I’ve now been in the ring with him once, I know what to expect.”

Peter Kay to release new memoir about his ‘obsession for TV and working in it’

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Kay is to release a new memoir in September about his “obsession for TV and working in it”.
The 49-year-old comedian admits it has been a “massive pleasure” recalling some of his “adventures” from the past 25 years in his new autobiography ‘T.V.: Big Adventures on the Small Screen’.
He said: “I’d wanted for years to write about my obsession for TV and working in it.
“It’s been such a massive pleasure recalling the adventures I’ve had over the last twenty-five years both in front and behind the camera, and I hope people will enjoy reading about the journey as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.”
The book will be Peter’s first memoir in 14 years, and the rights have been acquired by HarperCollins Publishers.
Publisher Kate Elton said: “All of us at HarperNonFiction are absolutely over the moon to be publishing Peter.
“He’s quite simply one of the most beloved entertainers in Britain, and T.V. is a hilariously funny, wonderfully warm journey through the popular culture of the last forty years.
“Chock-full of TV gossip, brilliant one-liners and, of course, irresistible observational comedy, it’s exactly the book every Peter Kay fan has been waiting for.”
Peter had planned to perform his first tour in eight years in 2018, but he had to scrap all 100 dates of his sold out Peter Kay Live Arena Tour shows just months beforehand due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.
In 2020, the ‘Car Share’ actor was due to make a comeback with his ‘Dance for Life’ charity gigs in London, Liverpool and Manchester for Cancer Research UK in April that year, but the shows had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But in August 2021, Peter did return to the stage for his first gig in three years to raise money for terminal brain cancer patient Laura Nuttall.
‘T.V: Big Adventures on the Small Screen’ will be published on 28th September 2023 in hardback, audiobook and eBook formats.

Lisa Faulkner ‘still really fancies’ husband John Torode: ‘We are a good team’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Faulkner says she and her husband John Torode work well together because they are “a good team”.
The ‘Waterloo Road’ star loves how she and the ‘MasterChef’ judge, 57 – who she met when she competed on ‘Celebrity MasterChef’, the star-studded edition of the BBC One cookery competition, in 2010 – make a great “partnership” in the home and in the studio of their ITV1 show, ‘John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen’.
The 51-year-old star – who married John in 2019 – told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “What I love about being married is that it’s about being a partnership. John and I are a good team. We know how to look after each other.
“Last week, I was feeling a bit grumpy about my upcoming birthday, so John made me dinner. Afterwards he bought me tea and chocolate, and when I went into the kitchen he had cleaned everything up, he lit candles, everything looked so beautiful, it’s those little things, he is just so caring.”
Lisa – who has teenage daughter Billie with her ex Chris Coghill – recalled how she bamboozled John with her “microwaved chocolate cake in a mug” recipe.
She said: “I remember when I made my microwaved chocolate cake in a mug. He was like, ‘I can’t believe you can stick all the mix in the microwave and it will work?’ OK, you’re not going to get the lightest cake, but you’re still going to get a cake, John!”
The ex ‘Spooks’ star still thinks that the ‘This Morning’ contributor is the “proper chef” of the relationship, despite her cooking talent.
Lisa said: “John’s a proper chef, and I’m a home cook. But we complement each other. That’s why our show works.”
She also revealed that their union – which blossomed after five years of friendship in 2015 – also works well because they still “really like and fancy each other!”

Chris Pine angered by lack of Star Trek 4 clarity

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pine is “frustrated” about being kept out of the loop on ‘Star Trek 4’.
The 42-year-old star is set to reprise his role as James T. Kirk in the latest movie in the long-running sci-fi franchise but is annoyed by the lack of progress being made on the film after it was removed from Paramount’s release calendar following the departure of director Matt Shakman.
Chris told Esquire magazine: “I don’t know anything. In ‘Star Trek’ land, the actors are usually the last people to find out anything. I know costume designers that have read scripts before the actors.”
The ‘Wonder Woman’ actor admits that he and his co-stars were taken by surprise when producer J.J. Abrams announced that ‘Star Trek 4’ was in the works and has become used to a lack of clarity by movie bosses.
Chris said: “I would say it’s frustrating. It doesn’t really foster the greatest sense of partnership, but it’s how it’s always been. I love the character. I love the people. I love the franchise. But to try to change the system in which things are created – I just can’t do it. I don’t have the energy.”
The future of the ‘Star Trek’ franchise was uncertain after the 2016 film ‘Star Trek Beyond’ underperformed with audiences and Pine lamented how the films are expected to compete with Marvel blockbusters in terms of box office numbers.
He said: “I’m not sure ‘Star Trek’ was ever built to do that kind of business. I always thought, ‘Why aren’t we just appealing to this really rabid fan group and making the movie for a good price and going on our merry way, instead of trying to compete with Marvels of the world?’
“After the last one came out and didn’t do the $1 billion that everybody wanted it to do, and then Anton (Yelchin) passed away, I don’t, it just seemed…”
Pine added that it seems as if the franchise “feels like it’s cursed”.

Sigourney Weaver joins The Gorge cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Sigourney Weaver has been cast in ‘The Gorge’.
The 73-year-old actress is to star with Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy in the movie that is being directed by Scott Derrickson.
Plot details have not been revealed but the project has been described as a high-action, genre-bending love story.
Teller will serve as an executive producer on the Apple Original Films feature which is being written by Zach Dean.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing the film with Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill for Crooked Highway.
‘The Gorge’ gained serious momentum last summer when Teller started to eye his next project after featuring in the blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
Sigourney recently starred in ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ as 14-year-old Kiri, a Na’Vi, and channelled her teenage self to drive her performance in the sci-fi sequel.
The ‘Alien’ actress said: “I usually wore black turtlenecks and an olive-green suede jumper/tunic thing. It was kind of like a beatnik outfit, I guess.
“I think it’s a great age, you know? Kids are so imaginative at that age – they’re so sensitive, easily hurt, easily thrilled and they see things so clearly. I tried to allow that self-conscious, awkward energy [I had] to flow into the character.”
Sigourney had starred in the original ‘Avatar’ film but her character Grace, a scientist, was killed off, although she had every confidence in director James Cameron when he pitched an idea for her to return.
She said: “I thought, ‘Well, Jim is smart. If he thinks I can do this, let’s give it a whirl!’
“I don’t think John Wayne was asked to play a 14-year-old when he was in his 70s. It’s something new.”

Frankie Bridge: Loose Women ‘is like therapy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Frankie Bridge says ‘Loose Women’ is “like therapy”.
The former pop star – who performed with both S Club Juniors and The Saturdays – loves her daytime gig as a panellist on the ITV1 show, but admitted to feeling “like a newbie” compared to some of her co-stars, who include TV veterans Gloria Hunniford and Ruth Langsford.
The 34-year-old star told OK! magazine: “I think I was lucky that [working on the show] started in lockdown. So even though it was only via Zoom originally, it was a really nice way to kind of break away from being in lockdown. I felt like I was getting into talk to and see other people.
“I’m used to it now though, even though I still kind of always feel like the newbie, because some of the women have been on there for like 20 years.
“But I’m starting to feel like more and more comfortable, and I’m so comfortable with all of the women.
“I love that we get on we have a little debate. We’ll laugh about stuff. We’ll talk about sad things. It’s kind like a night out when you go out with your mates anyway, like therapy.”
Frankie – who has sons Parker, nine, and Carter, seven, with her ex pro footballer husband Wayne Bridge, 42 – also shared how she was “so nervous” to interview some of the brightest stars around at the recent BAFTA Awards, in her role as EE’s red carpet host.
But she “loved it” and got a “huge adrenaline rush” from the project.

Deborah James’ final months to be shown in powerful BBC documentary Bowelbabe In Her Own Words

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Deborah James’ final months will be shown in a new documentary.
The former headteacher-turned-cancer campaigner, who was known as Bowelbabe, lost her bowel cancer battle in June last year aged 40, and a new BBC Two short film, ‘Bowelbabe: In Her Own Words’, will see her talk frankly about her diagnosis and treatment.
The 80-minute film will also feature several of Deborah’s personal moments as she documentary the reality of living with bowel cancer.
The archive-based doc will also feature never-seen-before mobile phone footage, Deborah’s collection of Tik Tok videos, Instagram posts, You Me and the Big C podcasts, family videos and Deborah’s voice notes.
Lucie Kon, Commissioning Editor, BBC Storyville said: “Deborah worked with us on this film right up until the last few weeks of her life and was adamant that it was finished even though she wouldn’t be around to see it through.
“It’s an incredibly powerful and beautiful piece – emotional, intimate and unique. With enormous warmth and good humour, the documentary echoes the powerful, honest and direct way that Deborah communicated, as if she were talking to a friend or confidante.”
Deborah – who was made a Dame by Prince William in May 2022, a month before her death – worked to establish The Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK, which has raised more than £7 million.
In June 2022, Deborah’s final TV appearance aired, on E4’s ‘Embarrassing Bodies’, just days before her passing.
During the show, Deborah explained the symptoms which prompted her to seek medical help, saying: “I started going to the poo – we need to say that – eight times a day. And I used to be a once-a-day kind of girl …
“Then I started getting really tired and I remember drinking loads of cups of coffee just to try and keep myself awake. Then I started losing loads of weight and I started having blood in my poo …”

Alesha Dixon jokes Bruno Tonioli has been ‘bruising’ her during Britain’s Got Talent filming

OHMYGOSSIP — Alesha Dixon has joked her new ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge Bruno Tonioli has been “bruising” her while the pair have been filming the ITV show.
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge revealed that her 67-year-old co-star – who she worked with on the star-studded BBC One Latin and ballroom competition – loves a bit of playful fun when they are sitting on the panel with their colleagues Simon Cowell, 63, and Amanda Holden, 52, and he loves to grab hold of her arm.
The 44-year-old television personality told Lorraine Kelly on her chat show ‘Lorraine’: “I had a few Bruno bruises, as I like to call them. He likes to grab the arm. I don’t think he’s got the rules yet no. After day two, we just turned to each other and said let’s just throw the rule book away this is the year of anything goes.”
Alesha also admitted she doesn’t ever worry that the UK is “running out of talent” because in each season “people get more inspired” to try out for the ITV1 show.
She said: “Every single year without fail you are seeing something you’ve never seen before and after doing it for 10 years people ask surely you’re running out of talent? absolutely not, if anything it is the opposite, people get more inspired.
“I think after the few years we’ve had, people are desperate to have the opportunity to be on stage and do what they love and this year the talent is phenomenal.”
Bruno was previously named as David Walliams’ replacement on ‘BGT’.

Ex EastEnders star Michelle Collins was ‘violently sick’ after eating daffodils

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Collins was once “violently, violently sick” after eating daffodils.
The ex ‘EastEnders’ star – who played Cindy Beale in the BBC One soap on and off in the 80s and 90s – explained how she once mistook Wales’ bright yellow national flower for spring onions, which resulted in her being ill.
After detailing how she got into making cookery videos over the COVID-19 lockdown, the 60-year-old actress told an astounded Ben Shepard and Susanna Reid while appearing on ‘Good Morning Britain’: “I brought home what I thought was a spring onion, cooked it, chopped it up, put it in the wok, had a few tastes and next thing I was running to the loo.
“I was violently, violently sick.”
Michelle recounted how people thought she was “completely crazy” but argued that “if you put them together they look similar”.
Daffodils are brimming with lycorine, a toxic chemical that if digested can cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In happier times, Michelle got married last August.
She wed her significant other Mike Davidson at London’s Islington Town Hall, after they got engaged during a hike up Temescal Canyon in Los Angeles.
She told her Instagram followers at the time: “So this happened in #la he got down on bended knee while we were on top of #temescalcanyon basically no one else around just us.
“It’s #beautfiul and I’m #happy #10years this April about time I think (sic)”
Former ‘Coronation Street’ star Michelle previously hit out at critics of the 22-year age gap between her and Mike, and she was frustrated to be branded a “cougar”.
She said in 2018: “Mike is 22 years younger than me and I’m regarded as a predator. It drives me mad. People call him my toyboy beau. He’s nearly 35, for God’s sake.
“He turned to me the other day and said, ‘Surely I’m not still your toyboy, am I?’
“I laugh about it now but it is annoying. And I hate that word cougar. I can’t stand it. I find it so demeaning. A cougar is a predator going around looking for young flesh. I’m certainly not like that.
“But then, women are judged far more harshly than men. And, funnily enough, often by other women.
“If people think I look old enough to be his mum then let them! There’s nothing I can do about it. It’s one of the downsides, I suppose, of being in the public eye.
“No-one mentions an older man and a younger woman, do they? Nobody goes on about Rod Stewart’s wife Penny being nearly 30 years younger than him!”

Tessa Thompson has directing ambitions

OHMYGOSSIP — Tessa Thompson has plans to move into directing.
The 39-year-old actress stars in ‘Creed III’ as Bianca Taylor and is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her co-star Michael B. Jordan by venturing behind the camera.
Quizzed if she has plans to direct, Tessa told IndieWire: “Yeah, absolutely. I have something in mind.”
Tessa had high praise for Jordan’s directorial efforts on ‘Creed III’ and was impressed how he balanced the challenge with starring as the titular boxer Adonis Creed.
The ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ actress said: “Even though he was taxed and stressed, and I know it because I know him so well and I could tell the days where things were tough for him, never would he take it out on anybody around him.
“He would take a breath and figure it out and go back in there and treat everyone with respect and ask people how their weekend was and be just a lovely, lovely leader.
“That, to me, is the mark of someone that can really do this because should be, at its best, a team sport, and that person is just the captain, but everyone is important on the team.”
Tessa has starred in both big blockbusters and smaller indie movies and was able to recognise that Michael had created a harmonious atmosphere on set.
She said: “He did it well!
“I know that this is a business where, of course people are overworked and sometimes it can be stressful and sometimes people can butt heads, but I don’t have a huge tolerance for work environments that feel unhealthy or unkind. I just kind of think there’s no excuse for it in a way.”

Idris Elba: Luther is more relatable than James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba considers ‘Luther’ to be more “relatable” than James Bond.
The 50-year-old actor returns as DCI John Luther in ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’, the big-screen continuation of the TV series, and hopes that the character can take up some of 007’s “real estate” with the gritty themes of the new movie, which features Andy Serkis as cyber serial killer David Robey.
Idris, who has often been tipped to play Bond, told Magic Radio: “The Bond series is an incredible staple to the UK and the world right, but Luther could take up some of that real estate.
“It is not about espionage, but it is about how to catch them. I think Luther tends to be a little bit more relatable, you know grounded. You know guys that creep from under your bed… this film has certainly taken it a little more cyber if you like with Andy Serkis’s character.”
Idris thinks that the ‘Luther’ movie has been “a long time coming” and is already planning for the future on the big screen.
The ‘Beasts of No Nation’ star said: “Hopefully it is the beginning of the new chapter. Sounds corny, but you know we have gone from television, we have gone as far as we can and now, we have got the world as our stage. Big epic landscapes and you know infinite stories.”
Elba suggested that Luther could come up against multiple villains in the next movie.
He said: “No spoilers but I think it might be more than one.”
Idris explained that he wants to star in a musical next despite his experience on the ill-fated 2019 adaptation of ‘Cats’.
The star said: “I would love to do a musical. I started off, my first semi-professional job was ‘Guys and Dolls’ and I played Big Jule and I loved it. And I was the understudy for Sky Masterson, so I did the whole singing and dancing number, and I loved it.”
You can hear the full interview with Idris Elba on Monday (06.03.23) on Magic Radio Breakfast from 6am.

Lord Sugar fires Bradley Johnson on The Apprentice

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Johnson has been fired on ‘The Apprentice’.
The self-made businessman has been fired by Lord Sugar after he failed to impress during the latest task.
The groups were asked to produce a men’s skincare brand for John Lewis, and Bradley was initially very confident of excelling in his role as a project manager.
He said: “This is my third time as project manager for me. This is it for me. I’m going to absolutely smash it.”
However, Bradley – who was keen to call his brand Venom – ultimately failed to impress Lord Sugar, and he was later called a “disgrace” by the businessman.
Speaking about their product, Lord Sugar added: “It looks like a Brussels sprout on top of a turd.”
The 75-year-old business magnate then decided to fire another member of the team, as he opted to send Avi Sharma home, too.
After his exit was confirmed, Avi confessed to learning some important lessons through the show.
He told Metro.co.uk: “I got more than I expected, really. I laughed a lot, and I learned a lot which is the most important thing.”
Meanwhile, Bradley previously boasted about his success in the business world.
The TV star started his construction business after being made redundant in 2019 and Bradley admitted to being “immensely proud” of what he’s managed to achieve so far.
He said: “Starting a business from absolutely nothing and taking it to a company that’s turning over six figures demonstrates my determination and strong work ethic.
“A lot of people in business – I’m not saying everyone – have inherited their businesses. This is not the case for myself.”

Claudia Fogarty and Keanan Brand leave Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Claudia Fogarty and Keanan Brand have left the ‘Love Island’ villa as part of a quadruple dumping.
The duo were dumped from the ITV show by Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda, who were earlier voted the least compatible couple by the public.
Maya Jama, the show’s host, delivered the news to the first couple, and then revealed that another couple would also be leaving the programme.
Maya, 28, told the Islanders: “You must now choose one girl and one boy from the remaining vulnerable couples to be dumped from the Island tonight. Please go and take a seat to discuss your reasons and to make a decision.”
Olivia then delivered the news to the other Islanders.
She said: “This has been a really difficult decision for both of us. Do you keep a couple in that could potentially rebuild a flame? Do you keep a boy and a girl that haven’t had enough time here?
“It’s been very difficult to make this decision – there’s so many options we could have gone for.”
Meanwhile, Olivia later described her time on ‘Love Island’ as “an absolute whirlwind experience”.
She added: “I am overjoyed to be leaving with Maxwell just as we became exclusive. I found what I was looking for, so I’m excited to get home and see my friends and family and continue on my journey with Maxwell.”
Maxwell, on the other hand, confessed to having “mixed emotions”.
He explained: “I’m very happy to be leaving with somebody that I really like and have a strong connection with. I’m excited about moving forward with my relationship with Olivia but at the same time…”

Nile Wilson: Dancing On Ice and Olympics are ‘on a par’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nile Wilson believes ‘Dancing on Ice’ and the Olympics are “on a par”.
The 27-year-old gymnast – who won a bronze medal on the horizontal bar at the 2016 Games in Rio before retiring in 2021 due to injury – feels the same “level of pride” performing on the celebrity skating show with professional partner Olivia Smart as he did when he competed internationally for Team GB.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “’Dancing On Ice’ and the Olympics are on a par. You still feel the same level of pride.
“The enormity of our experience, having to learn how to skate in such a short period of time then going on live TV in front of five million people.
“It feels the same to me as competing in the Olympics.”
Nile and Olivia have frequently topped the leaderboard throughout the series but the sportsman admitted his partner has to keep him “on a leash” because he’s so keen to push himself as far as he can, she’s worried he will get injured and they will have to withdraw from the competition.
He said: “The more confident I get on the ice, the more dangerous I want to take the stunts. Olivia is like, ‘Remember we want to get to the final and and we can’t do it if we’re broken!”
Meanwhile, ‘Dancing On Ice’ professional Matt Evers – who was partnered with Patsy Palmer – has dismissed viewer complaints that Nile and Olivia have been “overmarked”.
He said: “I’ve heard talk about Nile being ‘overmarked’. Well, there are always rumblings about who may be overmarked or undermarked – but as Christopher Dean said in a recent session with us, yes, it’s a competition, but the ice panel judge the individual performance that week.”

‘I burst into tears’: Steven Spielberg had emotional reaction to seeing The Fabelmans’ Michelle Williams and Paul Dano together

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Spielberg cried when he first saw Michelle Williams and Paul Dano in character together for ‘The Fabelmans’.
The 76-year-old filmmaker’s Oscar-nominated movie is based on his old childhood and he explained how a “routine” first day of filming proved to be very emotional for him.
Speaking on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’, he said: [Costume designer] Mark Bridges came over to me and said, ‘I’ve got Paul and Michelle here in their hair and make-up and costumes.
“I turned around and there was my father and mother, and I just burst into tears. Just like that, I didn’t even think about it, it just happened.”
Steven noted he had seen the two stars separately in costume but not together before that moment, and they were both quick to offer him support.
He said: “Michelle ran to me, hugged me. Paul came around the back of me – he’s really tall – hugged me around the shoulders and just held me.”
The ‘Jurassic Park’ director admitted he had previously “given speeches” to Michelle and Paul in which he told them not to “worry” about how he’d feel seeing his own life being played out in front of him because he’d had the opportunity to let out his emotions when he was working on the script.
He said: “I had given them speeches long before the first day of shooting. I got all my tears out writing the scripts with Tony Kushner.
“I’m a professional. [I told them,] ‘Don’t worry about me. You don’t have to take care of me. My job is to take care of you and guide you to giving some great performances.’ And, it wasn’t to be.”
