Dancing on Ice’s Nile Wilson inundated with support after discussing addictions

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Dancing on Ice’ favourite Nile Wilson has been overwhelmed with messages of support after discussing his addiction battle and mental health battles.
The Olympian has described competing on the ITV skating show with his professional partner, Olivia Smart, one of his “proudest” achievements, which includes winning a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The 27-year-old gymnast told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’ve had thousands of messages, which is special.
“Messages saying how incredible it is and how it’s touched people and made them think differently, made them sort of realise that maybe they weren’t quite right, without them knowing.
“Above any of the things I’ve achieved, winning medals, that’s one of the proudest things I’ve done.”
Nile – who is the currently odds-on favourite to win the ITV1 competition, which is judged by Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo, Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill – admitted being in the limelight again could’ve been a “huge trigger” for him.
He said: “I’m aware this process could be a huge trigger for me and I’m already setting things in place to make sure that I don’t have a huge dip off the back of the show. Certainly a break afterwards.
“I’m feeling happy. I’m enjoying the process, I’m enjoying performing again. And I’m very grateful to be in this position.”
Last month, Nile – who retired from professional gymnastics in 2021 due to his injuries – called leaving sport behind “completely heart-breaking”.
He said: “I wanted to be the best gymnast in the world, and then it’s taken away from you. That knocked me for six and shattered my mind.
“It was tough to accept that I wasn’t going to be the athlete I once was. That’s when my behaviour started to take a dive. It was tough to be positive because of the severity of the pain. I was one of the fittest athletes on the planet, then I was struggling to walk. I started to take lots of pain relief and drink lots of alcohol to try and numb the pain.”

John Boyega lands part in The Freshening

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega has been cast in the sci-fi romance film ‘The Freshening’.
The 30-year-old actor is to star in the movie that is being directed by ‘Birds of Prey’ filmmaker Cathy Yan.
Filming on the project is set to begin later this year and ‘Don’t Look Up’ director Adam McKay is among the producers.
The film is inspired by Rachel Khong’s short story from the Paris Review and is set in a United States dominated by a public health initiative known as ‘the freshening’ – where everyone is able to see their own race and gender.
In this otherworldly near future, Reese (Boyega) and Sam meet on a drug that temporarily reverses its effects.
Additional casting on the film is currently ongoing.
The movie’s producers said: “We are tremendously excited to have John bring this complex character and story to life and can’t wait to begin filming with this incredible group of likeminded creatives.”
Yan added: “It’s a dream to work with John Boyega, a singular talent whose commitment to his craft and willingness to take risks have delivered such memorable, wide-ranging performances.
“I know he’ll bring incredible depth and nuance to Reese. I’m thrilled he’s on for this wild ride.”
John previously expressed frustration that black directors have been overlooked by the film industry and has no qualms about speaking out against inequality.
The ‘Star Wars’ actor said: “We’re talking about diversity and I know that irritates you.
“But maybe that’s because you enjoyed a sea of blonde hair and blue eyes. You’ve enjoyed it for years. You’ve enjoyed it so much, you think, why would they want that? It feels great to be a part of that ferocious, forceful, positive change, and I just love that they have to eat it.
“When we celebrate and empower ourselves, please believe that your position is to mind your business. Me uplifting myself is not against you. We just want the same opportunities.”

Jonathan Majors to star in Da Understudy

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Majors will star in and produce ‘Da Understudy’.
The ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ actor has boarded the cast of the movie from Westbrook Studios and Amazon Studios with insiders suggesting that Spike Lee is set to direct.
Jonathan, 33, will produce the film under his Tall Street Productions banner while Tom Hanada, Zach Strauss and Tyler Cole have penned the screenplay – which is based on an original story by Cole and has been developed in-house by Westbrook.
‘Da Understudy’ tells the story of life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production discovers a part that he is willing to kill for.
Will Smith and Westbrook Studios Co-President and Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone and Mike Soccio are to produce the film alongside Majors, with Lee and Cole serving as executive producers.
It has been a breakout year for Majors so far as he also stars alongside Michael B. Jordan in the ‘Rocky’ spin-off ‘Creed III’ and the latter explained that the pair are planning to make more movies together and form a partnership like Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
Asked if they’d collaborate again, Michael told the New York Times newspaper: “We plan on it.
“We’re excited about that, and I have those conversations with him. Acting is such a solo journey, where you’re fighting for your place on that call sheet for such a long time.
“So when you’ve got somebody that doesn’t care as much about that stuff, it’s like, ‘Let’s go. How much damage can we do together?'”

Olympian Mo Farah finished 2nd in dads’ running race at school sports day

OHMYGOSSIP — Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah finished second to a guy wearing jeans in a dads’ running race at a school sports day.
The 39-year-old athlete was trounced by another guy – who “dined out” on the achievement for a whole year – in a 100-metre sprint at his children’s sports day, despite wearing his running spikes.
Mo’s wife Tania told the ‘Performance People’ podcast’: “Mo took part in the parents’ race at sports day and came second, and the guy that won it was wearing jeans.
“The dad that won dined out on it for an entire school year.
“Mo’s not a sprinter, that’s what it is, the parents’ race is always 100 metres.”
Tania – who has daughter Rhianna, twins Aisha and Amani, and son Hussein with Mo – insisted the world champion’s success is due to being slow and steady and not speedy like “people just assume”.
She said: “People just assume Mo can run fast, but his running fast is sustained running over many laps.”
Mo added: “I was like, ‘Oh no,’ and I had my spikes on, I thought, ‘I’m ready for this.’ ”
Recently, Mo was named as one of the players for this year’s Soccer Aid, an annual charity football match in aid of UNICEF where England faces off against the Rest of the World.
The star-studded match – which will take place on June 11 at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s stadium – will see Lioness legend Jill Scott become the first woman to captain a side during the event, after she was crowned Queen of the Jungle on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ late last year.

Ex-Love Island star Montana Brown issues social media advice after ‘bad filler’ pressure

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Love Island’ star Montana Brown has urged others to take social media comments with a “pinch of salt” after she felt pressured into getting a “really bad” filler.
The 27-year-old star was then trolled about her face after getting the filler, leaving her feeling “really low”, but she admitted the negative incident kick started her “self-love journey”.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper to mark International Women’s Day, she said: “I ended up getting this really bad filler. Bearing in mind I was 22, I did not need it at all.
“I started getting negative comments like, ‘What have you done to your face?’.
“So that was one of the really low moments for me and I thought, ‘Actually, I can’t please everybody, I’m just going to have to be happy with the way I am, then everything else will come’.
“I think the self-love journey really started there.
“So if there’s one thing I’d say, especially with social media, just take it with a pinch of salt.
“Everyone’s beautiful in their own unique way.
“And I think we all strive to look like people on Instagram or celebrities, and actually beauty is within your uniqueness.”
Montana took part in the dating show in 2017 but admitted she had grown up not knowing what Botox was.
She added: “Being 21, 22, I was like, ‘Oh, what’s that?’ because I’d grown up not knowing what it was.
“Then people were trolling me, saying, ‘You should get this done, you need to go get that done’. I was really disheartened.
“I went through a phase of being really into social media.”
Montana previously admitted she didn’t have a “confidence problem” until she appeared on the show.
Speaking in 2021, she said: “Now I never had a confidence problem until I went on ‘Love Island’.
“I started picking myself apart because people were like, ‘she’s got a lazy eye’ … and I started thinking I had a lazy eye and considered getting eye surgery.”

EastEnders bosses submit plans to expand 87m set

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ bosses are hoping to add three new sets by building on a backlot where the old Albert Square was.
The BBC forked out £87 million for a new set, which opened last year at Elstree, Hertfordshire, and new planning documents submitted to the local council have revealed a parade of shops and houses feature in the new expansion plans.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Bosses don’t want the old set to go to waste when there’s so much that can be done with it for Walford.
“It’s going to open up the soap’s world even more for more drama and more high-stakes storylines.
“‘Corrie’ and ‘Emmerdale’ both have huge sets and expansions and with this there’s no danger ‘EastEnders’ will be left behind.”
Bosses are also hoping to get the green light for a bigger allotment area, to enable more outdoor filming, and Albert Square’s park is to be revamped.
The first episodes filmed on the new set aired in spring 2022, and last year, ‘EastEnders’ bosses told how the new set would allow for extra storyline “flexibility”, including more car and foot chases in Albert Square.
Director Richard Lynn said at the time: “Chase scenes on the old lot would inevitably have gone in one direction only, because there were so many dead ends.
“There is much more flexibility now – more places for the goodies to hide and the baddies to come together.
“I’d really like to do a foot chase in the alleys or back gardens.”
Production manager Rona McKendrick admitted the old set had to be updated due to safety fears.
She said: “The lot got shabbier and shabbier.
“Once the rain and the wind got in, it really started degrading. In recent years, it became unsafe in winds – you could see the chimneys wobbling.”
Filming began on the new set in January 2022, after the old Albert Square – which was built in 1984 with an intention to be used for two years – was no longer fit for purpose.
The BBC said at the time: “The investment in the BBC’s longest-running TV serial drama and wider BBC Elstree Centre enables improved HD for our audiences and enhanced filming options.
“‘EastEnders’ production are now able to explore new areas on screen and writers, producers and directors have greater freedom to drive further creativity.”

Ann Widdecombe ‘signs up for Celebrity Cooking School’

OHMYGOSSIP — Former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe has signed up for ‘Celebrity Cooking School’.
The ex-‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star, 73, and lawyer Nancy Dell’Olio, 61, are both set to take part in the E4 reality series.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Ann and Nancy are two formidable women who need a little bit of help in the kitchen.
“Nancy appeared on ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ last year but it was obvious she was useless hence why she was booted off first.
“As she said herself then, the main ingredients in her fridge were ‘water, champagne and wine,’ so she needs to go back to basics.
“Ann, meanwhile, just needs a refresher. But host Melvin Odoom and chef Giorgio Locatelli will have to be wary of her temper. Ann is not a woman you can boss around.
“Producers imagine she could be quite the menace once she gets behind the hob so they are expecting fireworks.”
Ann is expected to rub shoulders with fellow reality stars James Argent and Scotty T on the show.
As well as her political career, the star – who has appeared on several reality shows, including ‘Celebrity Fit Club’ and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ – is also known for her exploits on BBC One Latin and ballroom competition ‘Strictly’.
She famously overcame the odds to finish sixth on the 2010 series, while partnered alongside Anton Du Beke, and one of the most memorable moments of the series was when she was dragged across the floor by the now-‘Strictly’ judge during one of their routines.
Then-head judge Len Goodman likened the performance to a car crash, saying: “You don’t really wanna watch, but you can’t help yourself.”

Jasmin Savoy Brown teases ‘brutal’ Scream VI

OHMYGOSSIP — Jasmin Savoy Brown has described ‘Scream VI’ as more “brutal” than its predecessors.
The 28-year-old actress stars as Mindy Meeks-Martin in the new slasher flick and believes that the New York City setting adds to the terror generated by the killer Ghostface.
Jasmin told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s New York premiere on Monday (06.03.23): “I’m so excited to be back. We didn’t get to have a premiere for the last one (‘Scream’) so this is kind of like a big party; you’ll notice all the actors from the previous film are here, the ones that were killed off, so it’s nice to reunite.
“This ‘Scream’ is different because it’s bigger, bloodier; Ghostface is more brutal here in New York City, it gives us an opportunity to play with the dense population.
“Ghostface could be anybody, anywhere in a way that just isn’t the same in a small town like Woodsboro.”
Jasmin’s co-star Mason Gooding emphasised the point and thinks that the Big Apple will add to the scares for fans.
He explained: “You take a horror movie and you set it in a major metropolitan area, you have a bunch of people trying to mind their own business – you don’t necessarily know if you’ll get the help that you look for, and that to me is terrifying.”
The new movie is the first in the franchise that doesn’t feature Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott – after she was unhappy with the financial offer she received to star in the film – but executive producer Kevin Williamson was pleased with the way the cast and crew “pivoted” in her absence.
He said: “What’s so great is we had so many other great characters and the movie was always meant to be about this sisterhood of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s characters.
“That is what the heart and soul and through line of this particular franchise so it didn’t really disturb that, but I can only say I miss (Campbell’s character) Sidney and maybe one day she’ll come back.”

Zachary Levi is looking forward to the future of Shazam!

OHMYGOSSIP — Zachary Levi has faith that ‘Shazam!’ will be a success with new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The 42-year-old returns as the superhero Billy Batson/Shazam in the new DC Extended Universe (DCEU) blockbuster ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ and is looking forward to the character’s future under DC co-chairs Gunn and Safran.
Zachary told Screen Rant: “I’ve known Peter Safran for years because he’s my boss. He’s now my boss-boss, but he’s been my boss as my producer.
“And I’ve known James for years and been a fan of his work for years. I think he’s a visionary kind of guy. He really understands world building, and I trust that they’re going to come up with some really cool avenues and directions for all of them.
“Not just Shazam (and) the Shazamily, but all the characters within DCU to go live really cool lives and make cool movies. And wherever they collide me into them, I will be stoked.”
Billy and his siblings turn into superheroes by saying ‘Shazam!’ and Zachary revealed that the teenager has grown up in this movie as he is about to turn 18.
He said: “The first moment he was 14-15, now he’s 17 turning 18. It’s a three-year gap, and for young kids in general, that’s a big gap. (They) change a lot in that time, so I was just trying to tap into that.
“Obviously, he’s not gonna go from being 14 to being an adult. But where is that middle ground? Where has he matured? Where is he still kind of lacking that maturity?
“I was always trying to look at how 17-year-olds are talking to each other. What words do they use? What’s their slang? Things like that. So, I just tried to incorporate as much of that as I could, and hopefully bring a performance that makes sense.”

BBC is keen on Blackadder and Fawlty Towers revivals

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC bosses are keen on a new ‘Blackadder’ series and the ‘Fawlty Towers’ revival.
The broadcaster’s comedy boss Jon Petrie has weighed in on the idea of two classic shows heading back to the Beeb, and he’s open to talks with ‘Blackadder’ creator Richard Curtis about a new run after the upcoming Comic Relief sketch with Sir Tony Robinson returning as Baldrick.
Speaking at a BBC Comedy Showcase this week, he said: “We would always be happy to talk to Richard.”
Actor Tony previously suggested a new ‘Blackadder’ series is probably unlikely because people may not feel as “warm” about it as they did the original episodes, but he hasn’t completely ruled it out.
He explained: “The argument always is that however good a new series might be, the people who are watching it wouldn’t be in the same state of mind and same state of emotions as they were when they watched the first series.
“They wouldn’t feel as warm about it, they wouldn’t feel as good about it. Even if it was absolutely great they’d go, ‘It’s not like the old series, is it?’
“So I think that’s one of the main reasons why no one has ever seriously thought about writing another series.
“But who knows, who knows? It’s not down to me, it’s down to Richard and Ben [Elton].”
Meanwhile, this week the BBC’s Petrie also addressed John Cleese’s announcement for a ‘Fawlty Towers’ revival, which will see him back as hapless and rude hotelier Basil Fawlty for the first time in 40 years.
The comedy chief said: “We found out about it when everyone else did.
“We haven’t spoken to John but obviously it’s a legendary show so we’d be happy to talk. We’ll see.”
Cleese had previously claimed the Castle Rock Entertainment production would not appear on the BBC as the broadcaster wouldn’t give him enough editorail freedom.
However, Petrie has insisted the Beeb isn’t scared to joke about any topics, even if some people find it offensive.
He explained: “In comedy, nothing should go untouched.
“I think you should be able to look at everything and all aspects of life, as long as it’s funny and dealt with in the right away. It’s really important.”

Warner Bros Discovery chief teases more to come from Harry Potter

OHMYGOSSIP — Warner Bros. Discovery is “only just starting to expand” its ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.
The studio has teased big plans for more projects set in J.K. Rowling’s world – which already spans eight main films and three ‘Fantastic Beasts’ spin-offs – following the success of new video game ‘Hogwarts Legacy’.
During a panel at Morgan Stanley’s investor conference this week, Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said: “Take ‘Harry Potter’ as an example, the Wizarding World, the fact that we are enjoying this massive success with the ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ launch, 12 years after the last film came out, shows that there is so much opportunity and we’re only just starting to expand that.
“We’ve got the new ‘Harry Potter’ tour coming up in Tokyo in the middle of the year.
“Long story short, I think this one-company approach, great leadership in the individual business units, but coordinated franchise management is probably one of the biggest opportunities the company has.”
He also addressed the recently announced ‘Lord of the Rings’ films, insisting it was something that would “bear fruit, over time”.
He added: “David made a promise, quote unquote, very early on to revitalize some of that iconic, tentpole IP and we’re starting to make progress.
“It’s exciting to see how people are coming in and out and how the creative community is embracing this opportunity to work with us. That’s going to bear fruit, over time.”
And then there is the DC Universe, which he hailed as “an enormous opportunity” with Peter Safran and James Gunn at the helm.
He said: “DC is an enormous opportunity and two important building blocks are in place now with the leadership team, Peter [Safran] and James [Gunn], and James has been breathing comics for as long as he’s been alive, essentially.
“A great creative leader here. And the second building block that is in place is the one-company approach, because I think you can only manage a franchise if everything is coordinated and the team is working together extremely well.”

Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney to star in Echo Valley movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney are to co-star in new movie ‘Echo Valley’.
‘Mare of Easttown’ creator Brad Ingelsby has hired the pair for the Apple Studios project, which he has written the script for.
According to Variety, Michael Pearce will direct the film and Ingelsby will produce the project alongside Sir Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss, who he developed the script with.
Moore will play Kate Garrett, who is still dealing with a personal tragedy when the horse trainer’s life turns upside down when her daughter Claire – played by Sweeney – turns up on her secluded Echo Valley Farm covered in someone else’s blood.
It’s not known if Moore landed the role due to luck, but the actress recently admitted she believes her dazzling Hollywood career is down to “good fortune”.
The 62-year-old actress – started her acting career in the 1980s and has won multiple awards, including an Oscar, a BAFTA, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Emmy Awards – said of her longevity in the movie business: “I look back, and I’m like, ‘I can’t believe I’ve actually been doing this for this length of time.’
“I’ve had good fortune. I continue to enjoy it. That’s the other thing that’s really great.
“A lot of the time I get told, ‘I thought of you for this script,’ and they’ll send it to you, but they thought of me because of something I just did. I want to be surprised.
“Usually, having been doing this for as long as I’ve been doing it, you can get ahead of the screenplay, and I see what’s being set up. But when I read it, I really didn’t see it … coming.”

EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt tipped to star in Cheryl’s West End smash hit

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Woodyatt has been tipped to star in Cheryl’s acclaimed West End play ‘2:22: A Ghost Story’.
The ‘EastEnders’ legend – who played Ian Beale for 36 years – could follow in the footsteps of his former co-star on the long-running BBC One soap, Jake Wood (Max Branning), who is currently appearing in the theatre production alongside the former Girls Aloud star.
After Adam’s stint in the national tour of ‘My Fair Lady’, in which he portrayed Alfred P. Doolittle, a source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Adam really fancies another stage play. He’s loved treading the boards with ‘My Fair Lady’, which ends in April, and ‘2:22 Ghost Story’ is a potential fit.”
Jake, 50 – who is in the show until April 23 – believes Adam, 54, would be perfect for the show.
He said: “Ian would be fabulous in ‘2:22’. He has said to me he’d love to do it and hopefully, he’ll get his turn. It’s such a fun one to do.
“It’s quite a remarkable play – probably the best I’ve ever read or been in – and the fact they can reinvent it with new cast means people will come back again and again.”
The Lyric Theatre production – which has been met with rave reviews throughout its run – has boasted a star-studded cast, including singer Lily Allen, TV presenter Laura Whitmore, and Busted star Matt Willis.
Adam – whose character Ian Beale vanished from the soap in 2021, but made a cameo for Dot Cotton’s funeral recently – has been vague in the past about his intention to return to Walford but admitted the “door is open” for him.
He said: “The door is open, but the door is also open for opportunities elsewhere as well.”

Ryan Reynolds has doubts about Free Guy sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds is unsure about making a ‘Free Guy’ sequel.
A follow-up to the hit 2021 movie is in development but the 46-year-old star has questioned the need to make another film.
Speaking at the Just for Laughs comedy festival at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday (04.03.23), Ryan told ‘Deadpool 2’ co-star Rob Delaney: “There is the potential to do a sequel to ‘Free Guy’, which would be fun.
“I would love it. But also like, does everything f****** have to be a sequel? I don’t know. Sometimes it’s OK to just do a movie and have it kick ass and then everyone go home.”
Ryan continued: “So you know, there’s a bit of a push and pull there, resisting the urge to just immediately say, ‘Ohh, doing a sequel will validate the first one.’
“No, the first movie validates the first one and then you can leave it at that. So I don’t know, we’re still talking about it.”
‘Free Guy’ director Shawn Levy confirmed last year that the sequel was “still in development” but he had no plans to rush the follow-up to the film – which also starred Jodie Comer and Lil Rel Howery.
He said: “It’s still in development. I don’t know if it’s in the cards, but it is very much still in development.
“It’s something that Disney and Fox want badly. I really try to not make sequels that don’t deserve to be.
“And it’s why I didn’t move forward with the ‘Real Steel’ sequel because I didn’t feel we had a second movie that could match or top the first.”
