Danny Dyer’s new role sees him play a ‘fictionalised’ version of himself

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer has joined the cast of Caroline Moran’s BBC comedy ‘Henpocalypse!’.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor – who played Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter on the broadcaster’s long-running soap from 2013 to 2022 – is set to portray a “fictionalised and heightened version of himself” in the series about a hen party that is “interrupted” by an apocalypse.
The 45-year-old star said in a statement: “When I saw the pilot for Henpocalypse! I pi***** myself laughing and I was so honoured to be asked to be a part of such an amazing job. You’re all gonna f****** love it – it’s hilarious.”
The plot is “centred around bridezilla Zara whose hen-do is interrupted by the apocalypse. She and her fellow working-class West Midlander hens face a struggle for survival while they wait out the breakdown of human civilisation in an isolated holiday cottage in Wales.”
A description continues: “As the nation’s favourite geezer Danny Dyer made a big impression on socially awkward Birmingham bridesmaid, Jen. So when she finds herself in a brutal post-apocalyptic world it’s Danny Dyer who comes to her in her moment of crisis. Taking on the role of mentor and counsellor, he provides sage advice, psychological insight and weapons training, setting her on the path to her true destiny.”
The cast also includes Elizabeth Berrington as Zara’s formidable mother Bernadette, Lucie Shorthouse as demanding bride Zara, Callie Cooke as put upon chief bridesmaid Shelly, Lauren O’Rourke as conspiracy theorist beautician Veena, Kate O’Flynn as one woman disaster area Jen and Ben McGregor as entrepreneurial stripper Drew.
Meanwhile, Danny previously admitted to feeling “very emotional” when he left ‘EastEnders’.
However, the actor also revealed that he stank while shooting his final scenes, in which his landlord alter-ego got lost at sea.
He said: “My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am. We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank. But ‘EastEnders’ couldn’t get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon.
“It’s all warm and lovely but to make it look like the sea they put broccoli juice in it. You smell of a***. It’s f****** broccoli juice. Warm broccoli juice. It was very emotional, but I stunk.
“If it goes t*** up I can go back. I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed…
“They wanted to keep it open. I’m very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life.”

Jonathan Majors hoping to be part of Michael B. Jordan’s Creed universe

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Majors is hoping to remain a part of Michael B. Jordan’s ‘Creed’ universe.
Jordan has directed ‘Creed III’ in which he reprises his role as Rocky Balboa’s protege Adonis Creed and is said to have signed a major new deal with Amazon Studios – which has acquired MGM – to create a ‘Creed-verse’ featuring spin-offs and sequels – and Majors who plays boxer Damian ‘Dame’ Anderson in the third film is keen to be a part of it.
Speaking to Variety, he explained: “I know that’s [the ‘Creed’ universe] always been an aspiration for brother Michael. I don’t know how far he’s going to take it. I’ve seen a few things that are very exciting. It’s on now. He’s got the ball. He’s gonna run with it … I will be as involved as brother Michael will let me.”
One of the first spin-off projects said to be in the works is a ‘Drago’ movie which was in development at MGM and will centre on Rocky’s Russian foe Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and his son Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), who was introduced in ‘Creed II’.
There are also reportedly plans to focus a spin-off around on Adonis’ daughter Amara.
Jordan recently insisted he can’t wait to get started on more ‘Creed’ projects, telling Deadline.com: “Building the ‘Creed’ universe is something that I’m really excited about.”
During the Los Angeles premiere of the third movie, Jordan also thanked the whole team for supporting him as he made his directorial debut, saying: “This journey over the last three years has been incredible. Never thought I could do what y’all say I did. I couldn’t have done that without the people that I just named in this incredible, incredible cast. It’s a team effort.
“Every day I tried to show up and I wanted to impress them. I wanted to let them know that I wasn’t doing it just to do the job. And finding the truth within the Creed family was really, really important to us. So, thank you, guys, so much for having my back every step of the way, even when it’s difficult.”

Guns N’ Roses rocker Slash launches horror film production firm

OHMYGOSSIP — Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has launched his own horror production company.
The ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ hitmaker – whose real name is Saul Hudson – has unveiled the banner BerserkerGang – a partnership between Slash and Michael Paszt, James Fler and Andrew T. Hunt of Raven Banner, Rodrigo Gudino of Rue Morgue magazine, and producer Pasha Patriki of Hangar 18 Media.
In a statement issued to Variety, the 57-year-old rock legend said: “I’ve always been a huge horror fan, especially going back to the days when horror movies actually scared the hell out of you.
“I want to get into the heart of the producing business so I can try and make movies that I’d like to see.”
Slash, Raven and Rodrigo have already teamed up on the flick ‘The Breach’, which is due out later this year.
The axe-slayer also scored and executive-produced the horror.
However, the first motion picture under the new banner is poised to be announced at Cannes Film Festival in May.
Andrew said: “The aim of BerserkerGang will be quality over quantity. We will be selectively choosing projects that we collectively feel best represent the brand.”
Michael said: “Our goal is to develop projects with filmmakers and writers who are just as passionate about genre films as we are.”
Rodrigo added: “The company slogan is ‘Films Forged in Fury,’ if that’s any indication of where we plan on venturing.”
Slash previously scored 2013’s ‘Nothing Left to Fear’ and 2011’s ‘This Is Not a Movie’.
And Slash’s Snakepit – a supergroup including members of Guns N’ Roses and Alice in Chains – had a song in Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 crime classic ‘Jackie Brown’.
Teasing ‘The Breach’, he said: “I’m an old-school sort of horror fan.
“We’ve been using Lovecraftian kind of references on this, but it definitely has sort of a slow burn, sort of 70s aesthetic, and there was a suspense thing because you really don’t know what the f*** is going on until the last act. It’s the kind of thing where, for me, it’s more cerebral than it is just everything, you know, spilled out onto the screen. He knows my style, so he knew I would dig it.”

Simon Cowell ‘meets Channel 5 boss as network aims to land big-money move’

OHMYGOSSIP — Channel 5 are “keen” to secure a big-money deal with Simon Cowell.
It has been previously speculated that the 63-year-old music mogul could take ITV’s ‘The X Factor’ over to Channel 5, and he is said to have met Ben Frow, the channel’s director of programmes, again this week to discuss potential projects, which could also include new entertainment formats.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “This would be a huge move for Simon, who carved out a TV career based on BGT and X Factor on Channel 5’s rival station.
“It would effectively see him turn his back on ITV after two decades which have seen him deliver them two of their biggest hits.
“There’s a strong sense that one chapter is ending and another beginning and Channel 5 are keen to be a part of that.”
However, it’s thought Channel 5 would need to pay a seven-figure sum to land Simon.
The insider added: “But they’d need to nail down a seven-figure contract to seal the deal to bring him across.”
In July, Simon was said to have struck a deal with the network to bring back the singing competition – which ran for 15 series and two spin-offs on ITV from 2004 to 2019 – after taking “lots of meetings” with a number of different TV channels.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper at the time: “As soon as ‘X Factor’ was up for grabs, there was interest from a number of the networks.
“‘X Factor’ is one of the most iconic shows in TV history, so it’s no surprise lots of channels were keen. The production company had their pick.
“After a lot of meetings, execs decided to go with Channel 5.”

Paul Walter Hauser signs up for The Instigators

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Walter Hauser has become the latest star to join the cast of ‘The Instigators’.
The 36-year-old actor has boarded the Apple Original Films project and will feature alongside Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Hong Chau.
The film tells the story of two thieves who must go on the run with the help of one of their therapists when a robbery goes wrong.
Doug Liman is directing the film while Matt and Casey’s brother Ben Affleck are producing through their newly-announced banner Artists Equity, together with Jeff Robinov and John Graham through Studio 8 and Kevin Walsh for his banner The Walsh Company.
The script has been penned by Chuck MacLean with Casey, Robinov and Graham having a hand in the development of the screenplay.
Hauser has had supporting roles in movies such as ‘Cruella’ and ‘I, Tonya’ and received praise for his portrayal of serial killer Larry Hall in the Apple TV+ series ‘Black Bird’.
‘The Instigators’ is the latest movie to be made by Ben and Matt’s Artists Equity studio and Affleck has explained how he wants to focus on quality films as he took aim at Netflix for the “assembly line” process of making movies.
The 50-year-old actor said: “If you ask (Netflix co-CEO and chairman) Reed Hastings… he’d say, ‘Hey, we went for quantity to establish a footprint.’
“I’m sure there’s wisdom in that and I’m sure they had a great strategy, but I would have said, ‘How are we going to make 50 great movies? How is that possible?’ There’s no committee big enough. There aren’t enough – you just can’t do it.”
Ben continued: “It’s a thing that requires attention and dedication and work and resists the assembly line process.
“(Netflix’s head of original films) Scott Stuber is a really talented, smart guy who I really like… but it’s an impossible job.”

Astrologer Mystic Meg dies aged 80

OHMYGOSSIP — Mystic Meg has died aged 80.
The astrologer – whose real name was Margaret Lake – passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning (09.03.23).
Meg’s agent of 34 years, Dave Shapland, told The Sun newspaper: “Without any question, she was Britain’s most famous astrologer by a million miles.
“Nobody came close to Meg in that respect. She was followed by millions in this country and also around the world.
“She even became part of the English language – if a politician, somebody from showbiz or ordinary people in the street are asked a tricky question they will say ‘Who do you think I am, Mystic Meg?’
“It shows what an impact she made.”
Last month, Meg – who shared a three-bedroom flat in Notting Hill with seven cats – was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, after she was struck down with flu.
Meg shot to fame in 1994 when she hosted an item on the National Lottery draw, in which she stared into a crystal ball to predict who would scoop the jackpot. It went on to be a regular feature for three years.
Piers Morgan has led tributes to the late star.
He said: “Mystic Meg was Britain’s most famous astrologer and a fascinatingly mysterious lady who loved her work with a passion but was rarely seen or heard in public.
“I was her editor at the News of the World for several years and she was extraordinarily professional in everything she did. A master of her very popular craft.”
Meg had a regular astrology column in The Sun newspaper, and the publication’s editor Victoria Newton admitted they had “lost an icon”.
She said: “Our brilliant and incomparable Meg was synonymous with The Sun – she was a total legend. We loved her and so did our readers.”

Smack the Pony ‘set for return after 20 years off away’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Smack the Pony’ could be making a comeback.
Fiona Allen, who starred in the Channel 4 comedy sketch show alongside Sally Phillips and Doon Mackichan from 1999 to 2003, has told how the stars have been filming and discussing making “something fun” ahead of a potential return.
She told The Sun newspaper: “Wouldn’t it be great to see another one?
“We’re kind of filming, talking, that would be something fun.”
Fiona hopes the show would still be as successful as it was in the early 00s.
She added: “It was fun and a lot of silliness, which I love, that was just our style I guess, and it worked really well and it cut across lots of different age groups.
“And we genuinely enjoyed it, we used to be in trouble a lot for laughing.
“It gets shown all the time, it’s always showing up somewhere. So that’s quite nice.”
‘Smack the Pony’ made a brief return in 2017 for a Comic Relief skit.
In 2021, Sally admitted she had given up hope of bringing the show back after hearing too many rejections.
She said: “Nobody wants it, and you know what, I no longer want to do it.
“The journey of trying to get it remade became so funny in itself.
“You’d be in The Gambia and someone would come up and go, ‘Oh, that thing you did. Drop the Dead Donkey – that was so great. When is it coming back?’
“And people tweet or whatever on a pretty much weekly basis, ‘When are you doing it again?’
“But the commissioners just didn’t feel the same way.”

Andy Serkis is willing to play James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Serkis would love to play James Bond.
The 58-year-old actor stars in ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ alongside Idris Elba – who has often been tipped to play the legendary spy – and revealed that he would love to don 007’s tuxedo himself.
Andy told the Metro newspaper: “Me, to be the next James Bond?! Oh, absolutely, yes. Let’s put it out there! I’d quite happily do that. I can be suave!”
Elba has ruled himself out of succeeding Daniel Craig as Bond and Serkis believes that the role of DCI John Luther actually suits the star better than 007 would have done.
The ‘Lord of the Rings’ star explained: “Basically, Luther is his own version of James Bond. And it suits Idris so well.
“Coming to work with him on this was exceptional, because he’s lived with that character for ten years. When you’re on set and you’re looking into Idris’s eyes, you feel he’s so present, he owns it completely.”
Andy added: “Luther is such a complex, deep character. In a way I actually think he’s more perfect for Idris than Bond, because you can almost predict what James Bond is going to do, but you can never predict what Luther is gonna do.”
Serkis plays the evil David Robey in ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ but was initially hesitant about portraying another antagonist on the big screen.
He said: “I’ve played a number of villainous characters (eg Gollum, Ian Brady) but when I first got the script, this character was so dark, do I really want to go there again?
“I literally wanted to throw the script in the bin and have a shower after I’d read it.”

The Vivienne left the UK drag scene to overcome drug addiction before making triumphant return

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vivienne has told how she left the UK drag scene to recover from her drug addiction, before making a triumphant return.
The ‘Dancing on Ice’ star – whose real name is James Lee Williams – moved from Liverpool to Gran Canaria to get sober after hitting the party scene too hard.
The 30-year-old drag queen told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Some guys I knew from Gran Canaria … asked me to do a gig in Pride.
“I did it, I was there for a week, and I felt like myself, and I hadn’t touched anything for a week.”
The Vivienne detailed how she “came out quite early” while studying at secondary school and often got told how “fabulous” she looked.
She said: “I came out quite early. Humour was my defence at school. I wasn’t bullied, because I was the funny kid.
“I’d turn up with a Louis Vuitton bag. Often my accessories would be confiscated. It wasn’t all bad. I was outside the headmaster’s office and another teacher told me I looked fabulous.”
Kevin Kirby, who manages the Liverpool bar Superstar Boudoir, admitted he knew of Vivienne’s problem but it never impacted her professional duties.
He explained: “She had to leave the scene at the time when she did otherwise, she wouldn’t have been where she is now.
“She took a massive pay cut to go over there, was able to sort herself out and there’s been no stopping her since.”
While appearing on original ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ in 2019- the BBC Three competition she won – the Vivienne confessed she took the drug ketamine for “breakfast, lunch and dinner”.
She said: “I could have three bags of it just putting my face on. I did it on and off for four years. I was getting evicted from apartments, I had no money.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz would love to host ‘The Romance Retreat’.
ITV recently confirmed they are making a new ‘Love Island’-style show for “vibrant single parents”, and while the 61-year-old broadcasting legend doesn’t want to appear on the programme – following her split from Ben Ofoedu after 16 years together – the star would be up for fronting the series.
In an interview with Betway, Vanessa, 61, said would “of course” be up for hosting the programme.
But said about appearing on the show: “I think the nation has been very, very good to me over the years.
“I think the lovely, beautiful nation of viewers need to be spared the sight of me in a bikini!”
ITV recently revealed details about ‘The Romance Retreat’, which has been compared to the ITV2 dating competition – which is currently airing nightly and hosted by Maya Jama – through an online casting call, asking for children to sign up their “vibrant single parents”.

Delta Goodrem would ‘never say never’ to reprising her Neighbours role

OHMYGOSSIP — Delta Goodrem would “never say never” to reprising her role on ‘Neighbours’.
The ‘Wings’ hitmaker’s journey to stardom included playing Nina Tucker in the Australian soap – a character she said “goodbye” to during what was thought to be the last ever episode of the Channel 5 soap in 2022 – but it has since been confirmed that the Australian show is being revived, and she is not ruling out a return to Erinsborough.
The 38-year-old singer told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “We did do the big send-off. I think my character Nina said goodbye. We all said goodbye.
“But never say never. Who knows?”
Delta “loves” that playing aspiring singer Nina – firstly in 2002 until 2005, and again in 2015 – helped to give her music career a lift off.
She said: “It’s where I started and I love that ‘Neighbours’ will live on forever and ever.”
Recently, the ‘I Don’t Care’ hitmaker detailed her strong bond with Sir Elton John – who reached out to her when she was diagnosed with cancer aged 18 – and she praised him for his “authentic relationships” with new talent.
Delta said: “In the early careers of me starting out in my career, I was so lucky to have support from artists in the UK, whether we were doing ‘Top of The Pops’ or when Elton John first reached out to me when I was first diagnosed with cancer or for my first song.
“When you’re first stepping into the world as an artist, Elton has such incredible impact and he’s so wonderful to the whole community, with artists, he has such authentic relationships.”

Jordan Banjo still speaks to brother Ashley Banjo’s ex-wife ‘every day’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Banjo still speaks to his brother Ashley Banjo’s ex-wife all the time.
The ‘Diversity’ star, 30, regularly chats to Francesca Abbott, the ex of the ‘Dancing on Ice’ judge, 34, “every day” despite their split – which the pair, who have daughter Rose, four, and son Micah, three, announced in December last year – because he sees her as a “big sister”.
Jordan told OK! magazine: “I’ve known Chess since I was 10 years old. There’s never been a point where she hasn’t been in my life or a like a big sister to me.
“So to me, nothing has changed.
“For me, Chess is still my older sister. I speak to her every day.”
As well as being brothers, Jordan – who has son Cassius, four, Mimi, three, and another one the way with his wife Naomi, 31, who he married last year – and Ashley have another connection in that their daughters are in the same class at school.
Jordan said: “Ashley’s daughter and my daughter are not just the same school and in the same year – they’re literally in the same class.
“So we’re together all the time. But for me, you know, nothing’s changed. Chess is still my big sister, and obviously Ash is my big brother.”
Last winter, Francesca and Ashley – who tied the knot in 2015 – revealed they had gone their separate ways.
They said in a joint statement: “After much thought and consideration, we both feel now is the time to share some personal news.
“Nearly 18 months ago we took the decision to separate.
“After being together for over 16 years, since we were teenagers, this is not a decision that has been taken lightly.
“It has not been easy and the processing of the situation has not been fast by any means. But we feel that as we approach the new year it is time to share this news with others.
“Our main focus will always be our beautiful children. Every decision that has been made is to make sure we can continue as a loving family and give the very best of ourselves as parents.”

Sir David Attenborough voted UK’s favourite TV presenter of all time

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Attenborough has been voted Britain’s top TV presenter of all time.
The ‘Wild Isles’ star, 96, beat off competition from several other household names in the world of broadcasting, including the late Sir Terry Wogan and the late Sir Bruce Forsyth, in a new poll.
David clinched victory after securing 28 per cent of the vote in the Perspectus Global-conducted survey, while the ‘Wogan’ host – who passed away aged 77 in 2016 – finished second, and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘Generation Game’ presenter Bruce, who died in 2017 aged 89, was third.
Trailing behind them are Graham Norton, 59, and the ex ‘Channel 4 News’ anchor Jon Snow, 75, in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The late Cilla Black – who hosted ‘Blind Date’, and died in 2016 aged 72 – and ‘The Traitors’ presenter Claudia Winkleman, 51, ranked sixth and seventh.
‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ duo Ant and Dec were eighth, after landing a record 21 National Television Awards for their presenting, and the top 10 was rounded off by Les Dawson – who died aged 62 in 1993 – and ‘8 Out of Ten Cats Does Countdown’ frontman Jimmy Carr, 50.
Recently, David revealed it was because of “internal BBC politics” why he ended up mostly documenting wildlife abroad rather than in the UK.
He said: “Well, yes, and it’s just internal BBC politics. I joined in 1952, and television was restricted to London only. Bristol had a Natural History Unit on the radio but it didn’t have television.
“So we had a great meeting and they said, ‘Look here, you’re doing natural history and I think we should come to some agreement on this, because when television comes here we want to do natural history television. Tell you what, we’ll do British natural history, and you can do all this stuff in Africa.’
“And I said, ‘That suits me down to the ground,’ so this is a great ambition fulfilled.”

Joseph Kosinski doesn’t consider Top Gun: Maverick to be an action film

OHMYGOSSIP — Joseph Kosinski doesn’t think that ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is an action film.
The 48-year-old director helmed the hugely successful sequel to the 1986 action movie but he explained that the story was an “emotional” tale with Tom Cruise’s Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell at heart.
Joseph told Vulture: “I still stand by the original intent of film, which was to tell an emotional, relatable story about a guy going through a rite of passage at a later point in his life. The first film, I always said, was a drama wrapped in an action film.
“Did I ever think of it as an action film when I was making it? I didn’t. The drama was always at the forefront. The execution of the flying sequences was in support of that.”
Joseph stressed that “emotion” was at the heart of every scene and meant that audiences were frequently returning to see the film again and again.
He said: “Every action sequence, we’re always telling a story, pushing the narrative forward, learning something about the character’s state of mind. We tried to do that not only in every sequence but every shot of every sequence.
“So, sure, it’s the action that got people in to see it the first time, but it was the emotion that brought them back for viewings two, three, four. Some guy came up to me the other night, said he had seen it 32 times!
The ‘Tron: Legacy’ director continued: “It’s the emotion that brings people back. And that’s, I think, the key to giant hits. I don’t know if you saw ‘Avatar 2’, but I felt like that with that film, the spectacle was one part of it, but there was a real emotional through line that got me.
“So emotion is key, but you need to make something that the audience knows they have to see on the big screen to get the full experience.”

Florence Pugh’s personal traits featured in A Good Person

OHMYGOSSIP — Florence Pugh says that Zach Braff incorporated her personal quirks into her ‘A Good Person’ character.
The 27-year-old actress features in the movie that has been written and directed by her former partner who put the ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ star’s idiosyncrasies into her alter ego Allison.
Speaking at the premiere of the movie in London on Wednesday (08.03.23), Florence said: “He knows how I talk, he knows how I take the p*** out of people and I think he just put that in his script and I was allowed to come and fill in where it was needed.
“But reading something that is dedicated for you written by someone who knows you so well is a wonderful gift.”
Pugh was living with Braff when he was developing the screenplay but she was not allowed to see any of his work on the film.
She recalled: “I wasn’t allowed to read any of it.
“I wasn’t allowed to read any of the scenes as he was writing it and he’s come up from the office (having) locked himself in there for a few hours and then would just start telling me all the pieces that he had discovered and I really wasn’t allowed to read anything.
“And so I kind of got to know the script and I got to know the character through us discussing it over dinner.”
Florence was often moved to tears while working on the flick and relishes a movie that provides her with a challenge.
She said: “It’s no secret that I can only pick very intense roles.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve been reduced to tears pretty much every single scene that I’ve been in. I like finding the ugliness in humans. I love being raw. I love being given a script where it challenges myself and I have never picked a role unless I’ve been scared of it.”
