Chris Packham wants wolves back in the British countryside

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Packham wants wolves to return to the British countryside.
The ‘Springwatch’ presenter believes the UK could follow in the footsteps of the Netherlands and Romania by bringing back predators like wolves and lynx to the rural landscape in effort to keep prey levels at sustainable amounts.
The 61-year-old broadcaster told the ‘Trees A Crowd’ podcast: “It’s been done very successfully in Europe and people there are able to live alongside them.”
Chris acknowledged his idea – however good it may be for the animal’s eco-system – might not take off due to “the social impact”.
He said: “Certainly, there are places in the UK where those species could be returned, but it’s not just about the landscape and the ecology – it’s about the social impact. We’re just not ready yet, unfortunately.”
The former ‘Really, Really Wild’ host admitted he hates seeing people who have “snared or shot” critters like beavers, who have been the subject of a successful reintroduction effort, “bragging” about their actions.
Chris said: “I go onto social media and see a picture of someone who has snared or shot or beaver, and they’re bragging about it. You just think, ‘It’s so difficult to make progress.’ ”
The naturalist recently hit out at “vandal” local authorities for cutting down more than 100 trees in secret at night in Devon’s Plymouth after 12,000 people signed a petition opposing the move.
Chris wrote on Twitter: “What the actual Plymouth City Council? What is the matter with you? What do you not understand? Despicable vandalism.”
He also expressed his disgust on social media at the “horrific plan” of an octopus farm.
Chris said: “A horrific plan for more factory farming of one of the most wonderful creatures . As much as I try to like humans as a species some of them truly make it hard . Yesterday Plymouth Councils ecocidal mania , this morning this . . . I am an angry man again. (sic)”

Jamelia admits Hollyoaks filming with newborn is no ‘walk in the park’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamelia admits ‘Hollyoaks’ hasn’t been a “walk in the park” as she’s been busy “pumping milk between breaks”.
The 42-year-old singer and actress – who has daughters Teja, 21, and Tiana, 17, from previous relationships and five-year-old daughter True with her mystery husband – welcomed Jdream into the world in October and returned to filming for the soap full-time as doctor Sharon Bailey just nine weeks later.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “If I said it had been a walk in the park, that would be a lie.
“I’ve been pumping milk between breaks and doing it through the night to leave milk at home.
“That said, I had a sense of pride that I’ve been getting up and going to work.”
Jamelia – who first played Sharon in 2021 episode ‘Black to Front’, which featured an all-black cast – is glad to be able to help grow visiblity on screen.
She said: “I think visiblity like that is important, not just for black people but all races.
“For my children, especially the eldest two, someting like that makes them feel as if they are seen.”
That appearance two years ago made her want to return in a more prominent and permanent role.
She’s also been able to reconnect with old friend Richard Blackwood – who plays Felix Westwood on the Channel 4 show – having first met him as a teenager.
She added: “My first TV appearance was when I went on Richard’s show on MTV Select when I was 17 or 18.
“To end up working with him 20-odd years later is incredible.”
Meanwhile, Jamelia has made it clear she isn’t done with music, and she’ll be heading to London’s Mighty Hoopla festival in June as she performs live for the first time since the pandemic.
She said: “I can’t wait to go back on stage. I don’t have any plans to go back in the studio.
“As much as I’d love to, with four kids and a new job, that’s more than enough.”

Steven Yeun: Marvel wasn’t on my bucket list

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Yeun says that joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) wasn’t on his “bucket list”.
The 39-year-old actor has been cast in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster ‘Thunderbolts’ but explained that the big appeal of the project was to work with director Jake Schreier again after the pair collaborated on the TV series ‘Beef’.
Steven told Empire magazine: “I don’t know if it was explicitly on my bucket list. It was more the story, getting to work with Jake Schreier again, who directed ‘Beef’, and what his intentions were.”
‘The Walking Dead’ actor is believed to have a significant role in the superhero flick and revealed that film bosses had a “very clear” idea about what they wanted from his character.
Yeun said: “The intentions of this particular character that they wanted me to play were very clear, and that’s what drew me to the film.”
Steven features in an ensemble cast for ‘Thunderbolts’ alongside Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen and Olga Kurylenko.
Little is known about the plot of the movie but the comics revolve around a group of villains who are sent on missions commissioned by the government. It is slated for release in July 2024.
Steven is also going to feature in Bong Joon-Ho’s film ‘Mickey 17’ and has learnt a lot through his work with the Oscar-winning director.
He said: “I really learn so much from him. There’s this camaraderie that he allows me to participate in with him that I really appreciate. At the end of filming (‘Mickey 17’), I remember turning to him as we shot my last scene, and I was like, ‘I learned a lot… and thank you.'”

Rachel Zegler was grateful for Shazam! Fury of the Gods chance

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Zegler admits that ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ came at the perfect time in her career.
The 21-year-old star portrays Anthea in DC Extended Universe (DCEU) sequel and was grateful for the acting opportunity as filming began in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and before her breakout movie ‘West Side Story’ was released in late 2021.
Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of the superhero film, Rachel told The Hollywood Reporter: “I needed a job. I’m being so serious. The reality was we were in the middle of a pandemic, and I was not working. I couldn’t get a job for the life of me because ‘West Side Story’ hadn’t come out yet.
“It was really hard to book work for me, so I was really excited when this came in my inbox. I love the first movie, and the fact that they even wanted me to come in for a callback, and then a chem read and then everything in between. I’m so lucky that I got this job.”
The future of ‘Shazam!’ is not yet clear as new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran make their mark at the studio but Zachary Levi will continue to give his all as the superhero.
The 42-year-old actor said: “My responsibility is just to show up and be the best Shazam that I can be, and I take that very seriously. I’ve known Peter for years, and James even longer, and I think they’re going to be really great leaders. Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield to star in We Live In Time

OHMYGOSSIP — Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield are set to star in ‘We Live In Time’.
Insiders say that the duo, who presented together at the Oscars on Sunday (12.03.23), are in negotiations on the project that is being described as a funny, deeply moving and immersive love story.
If deals for Pugh and Garfield are completed, the plan is to shoot the movie later this year.
John Crowley will direct the film from a script by Nick Payne. Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland and Guy Heeley are producing with ‘Sherlock’ star Benedict Cumberbatch serving as an executive producer.
‘We Live In Time’ will be the latest project in Florence’s busy schedule as she is already set to star in ‘A Good Person’, ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’ in 2023.
The 27-year-old star recently explained how she embraces acting projects that provide her with a challenge.
She said: “It’s no secret that I can only pick very intense roles.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve been reduced to tears pretty much every single scene that I’ve been in. I like finding the ugliness in humans. I love being raw. I love being given a script where it challenges myself and I have never picked a role unless I’ve been scared of it.”
‘A Good Person’ has been directed by Florence’s former boyfriend Zach Braff and she explained how he had incorporated her personal traits into the film.
The ‘Black Widow’ star said: “He knows how I talk, he knows how I take the p*** out of people and I think he just put that in his script and I was allowed to come and fill in where it was needed.
“But reading something that is dedicated for you written by someone who knows you so well is a wonderful gift.”

Quentin Tarantino’s last film is titled The Movie Critic

OHMYGOSSIP — Quentin Tarantino’s final film will be titled ‘The Movie Critic’.
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ director is putting together what insiders say will be the final film of his distinguished career behind the camera.
‘The Movie Critic’ is the name of the script written by Tarantino and he is preparing to direct the picture later this year.
Plot details are limited, but sources say the story is set in Los Angeles during the late 1970s with a female lead at the centre.
It is possible that the story could focus on the late Pauline Kael, one of the most influential movie critics of all time. She was known for her pugnacious approach and fought with both editors and filmmakers.
In the late 1970s, Kael had a brief spell working as a consultant for Paramount at the behest of actor Warren Beatty. The timing of the job appears to coincide with the setting of Tarantino’s script.
The ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ helmer is known to have a deep admiration for Kael, which makes it more likely that she will be the subject of his latest movie.
Tarantino has repeatedly insisted that he will retire after making his tenth feature film and is determined to go out in style.
The 59-year-old director said: “I’ve been doing it for a long time; I’ve been doing it for 30 years. And it’s time to wrap up the show. I’m an entertainer. I want to leave you wanting more.”
Tarantino – who counts the two installments of ‘Kill Bill’ as a single film – insists that he doesn’t “want to work to diminishing returns”.
He said: “I don’t want to become this old man who’s out of touch when, already, I’m feeling a bit like an old man out of touch when it comes to the current movies that are out right now.
“And that’s what happens — that’s exactly what happens.”

The Witchfinder axed by BBC after one series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Witchfinder’ has been cancelled after just one series.
The BBC2 sitcom – which starred Daisy May Cooper and Reece Shearsmith and had Steve Coogan on board as an executive producer – hasn’t been renewed for another run after hitting the small screen for six episodes in March 2022.
A BBC spokeswoman told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Sometimes we have to make difficult choices and sadly ‘The Witchfinder’ won’t be returning.
“We thank everyone involved in the show.”
The series was set in 1645 during the English Civil War, with ‘This Country’ star Daisy playing a suspected sorceress who is being taken across East Anglia for her trial.
Tim Key – who has worked on Coogan projects before as Alan Partridge’s sidekick Simon and other roles – played witchfinder Gideon Bannister, while Jessica Hynes and Ricky Tomlinson were also part of the stellar cast.
The show was written penned by brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons, who had also created and directed ‘This Time With Alan Partridge’.
However, an insider said: “‘The Witchfinder’ kicked off with decent ratings but quickly plunged to a level where execs just couldn’t justify giving it a second season.
“It’s fair to say the concept was fairly niche so it was always going to be tricky finding an audience, even on BBC Two.
“But although it won’t be coming back, its departure does make way for new comedy projects on the Beeb.”
Daisy previously opened up about filming the show and admitted her biggest challenge was keeping her character’s horse Bram under control.
She said: “There is a horse called Bram and he is a little, well I’m swearing, he’s a little b*****d. Basically, he’s so intelligent this horse that I have to ride. Between takes he goes to eat the grass and the trainers will say, ‘No Bram, just wait until we’ve finished the scene then you can eat the grass.’
“This horse pretends to itch his leg and then last minute will just like go and grab a bit of grass. That blows my mind. And he knows that I’m an amateur rider because I had never ridden horses until this show and he knows it, so he’ll start playing up and start being a bit of a bugger, cause they’re just so bloody intelligent. The biggest a******e in this cast is a horse.”

EastEnders character Stacey Slater turns to OnlyFans

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ character Stacey Slater will set up an OnlyFans account as part of a new storyline.
The mum-of-two – who has been played by Lacey Turner on the BBC soap since 2004 – will join the adults only subscription platform in an attempt to make ends meet after discovering her 12-year-old daughter Lily is pregnant.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “Following the recent shocking storyline where her 12-year-old daughter Lily is pregnant, Stacey will have another mouth to feed.
“In the cost of living crisis, OnlyFans has seen a boom as people try to care for their families.”
And while bosses will look to tackle the issue “sensitively”, it’s expected she’ll “have some fun” riffing on her food van Stacey’s Baps.
The source added: “It’ll all be handled sensitively. But it’s likely Stacey will have some fun with her food van, too!”
The storyline – which will mark the first time OnlyFans has featured on a soap – will start to air on the BBC in the coming weeks.
The development comes after some money woes for the Slater family, while actress Lacey recently admitted her alter ego is reluctant to let her family help her out.
She explained: “I think it’s a pride thing for Stacey. Kat’s helped her many times, she helped her buy the van, for instance, so she already owes Kat a lot of money.
“Martin’s also giving money, as is Alfie and Freddie, so I think she feels like a bit of a charity case.
“At this point, it’s one too many handouts and it makes her feel small. She’s trying to do everything to keep her family afloat but Kat’s got all of this money and can just throw it about.
“I think there’s a tiny bit of jealously there, not a bitterness but its someone else bailing her out once again. Again, I think it’s more of a pride thing.”

David Schwimmer reveals how family heartbreak inspired him to join Bake Off

OHMYGOSSIP — David Schwimmer has admitted family heartbreak inspired him to join ‘Celebrity Great British Bake Off’.
The ‘Friends’ star – who is a huge fan of the Channel 4 show – is going to be part of this year’s special for Stand Up To Cancer, and he has opened up on the devastation of his own grandmother and his ex-wife mum both lost their lives to the disease.
As quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said in a sneak peak of Sunday’s (19.03.23): “I lost a grandmother to cancer, my daughter lost a grandmother to cancer and my sister is a cancer survivor, so it’s important to me.
“I am just grateful I can help in any small way raise more awareness.
“I am here to have fun. I am here to raise money for a great charity. It’s a great cause and I happen to be a massive fan of the show.”
David – who split from Zoe Buckman in 2017 – admitted his family will be rooting for him, and he brought his 11-year-old daughter Cleo’s favourite “stuffie mushroom” as a good luck charm.
He added: “My friends and family are very excited for me. They are all fans of the show.”
Not surprisingly, the famous tent was buzzing with David joining the contestants, given many of the stars – and judge Paul Hollywood – are fans of ‘Friends’.
Paul said: “I was like, ‘It’s David Schwimmer, he’s here, he’s here.’ I was like, ‘Wow.’
“I wandered up, pretended I wasn’t that bothered and he was like, ‘Oh hiya guys, how are you doing?’ And I had to let it out.”
Paul insisted David “took it seriously”, while fellow judge Prue Leith added: “He genuinely wanted to be on the show.
“Partly because he wanted to support Stand Up To Cancer but also because, like most who come on the show, they want to get into that tent.”

Jordan North had ’emergency landing’ during filming for new show

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan North had an “emergency landing” during filming for his new show.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ and ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star has reflected on his work hosting new BBC Three reality challenge show ‘Go Hard or Go Home’, which started with him filming on top of a high cliff.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “As soon as I read the brief I said, ‘I’ve gotta host this’. I went on a show where I had to push myself to my limits. It’s what everyone knows me for.
“It’s given me a new lease of life. I only used to fly when I had to go for a stag do but if I can get in a coffin full of snakes, I can get on a plane.
“Don’t get me wrong, I had a bit of a tough time out there on this show. I missed flights, I had an emergency landing…”
The 33-year-old star opened up on the scary moment when the pilot informed them that there “may or may not be a fire in one of the engines”.
He recalled: “We filmed on a remote island in the Caribbean. I’m still not a good flyer but we took off and then we started circling the airport.
“The captain came on and said, so calmly, ‘We have to make an emergency landing. There may or may not be a fire in one of the engines.’
“As we’re landing there are firefighters following us down the runway. There’s blues and twos going…”
When it came to being on top of a cliff – which will remind fans of a particularly scary trial he faced on ‘I’m A Celebrity’ – Jordan admitted he “had a bit of a wobble”.
He added: “At the top of that cliff I had a bit of a wobble and fainted. I’m being a bit dramatic to say ‘fainted.’
“You know when you get up from the settee and you’re a bit dizzy? I’d been in the head for an hour and it was a really high cliff.
“I just remember putting my hand on one of the cameramen’s shoulders and I went down in stages, a bit like Gillian McKeith. I was like, ‘I’ve not fainted but I just want to take a little seat for a while/’ ”

Julia Garner remains hopeful for Madonna biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Garner has her “fingers crossed” that the Madonna biopic will happen.
The ‘Ozark’ star is set to play the ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker on the big screen and is still hopeful that the project will come to fruition despite being shelved for the time being as the pop icon embarks on her ‘Celebration’ world tour.
Julia, 29, told Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday (12.03.23): “Yeah, yeah. I don’t want to tell too much. I want to keep things… yeah, fingers crossed.”
Madonna is set to direct her own biopic and the Queen of Pop believes that she is the only person who can do justice to her own story.
The 64-year-old singer said: “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film.
“It was also a pre-emptive strike, because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So, I put my foot in the door and said, ‘No one’s going to tell my story but me.’
“I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter. I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs.”
Madonna has previously opened up about the “draining” experience of writing a script that covers her childhood in Michigan to global superstardom.
The ‘Like a Prayer’ singer said: “Writing my script is the most draining, challenging experience I’ve ever had.
“It’s kind of like psychotherapy in a way, because I have to remember every detail from my childhood till now.
“Remembering all the things that made me decide to be who I am, my journey as an artist, my decision to leave Michigan to go to New York, all the things that happened to me when I was young and naive, my relationships with my family and friends, watching many of my friends die.”

Whoopi Goldberg cast in animated short Asali: Power of the Pollinators

OHMYGOSSIP — Whoopi Goldberg is to star in ‘Asali: Power of the Pollinators’.
The 67-year-old actress has joined the cast of activist Maya Penn’s animated short film alongside Monique Coleman, Ronen Rubinstein, Joy Odofu and Lupita Pineda.
‘Asali: Power of the Pollinators’ tells the story of honey bee Asali after she meets a group of pollinators and a human environmental scientist. The unlikely group is able to save Asali, her family and their home from a deadly force.
As well as starring in and directing the feature, Penn is animating and producing the movie with her production company Upenndo! Productions.
Penn has pursued sustainability and environmental education over the past 15 years and founded the global eco-friendly brand Maya’s Ideas when she was only eight years old.
At the age of 16, Penn received a commendation from US President Barack Obama for outstanding achievement in environmental stewardship.
Whoopi starred in the film ‘Till’, which tells the story of a teenage boy who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955 for whistling at a white woman, and considered it to be a passion project.
The ‘Sister Act’ actress said: “I’ve only (ever) wanted to do stuff I’m interested in and stuff that I thought was interesting. It doesn’t necessarily have to be interesting to other people.
“It only has to really interest me, that’s always been the same. So getting to do this was a gift because this was not my plan.”
Whoopi, who plays Emmett Till’s grandmother Alma Carthan in the film, revealed that her role in the movie changed over time.
She said: “At one point I was going to act, but it was years and years and years ago. By the time we got it, I’ve evolved into grandma.”

Race Across The World constants ‘scared’ by risk of bear attacks

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Race Across The World’ contestants were “genuinely scared” by the risk of bear attacks during filming.
The BBC challenge show is returning for a third series as five teams of two travel 9,900 miles across Canada – where bears roam free – at ground level with no access to phones, credit cards or the internet as they try to survive on less than £50 a day.
Producer Maria Kennedy said: “Bears are not that scared of cameras so they would have taken them out.
“The cast are genuinely scared and they should be. But they did have bear spray.
“And obviously we would have intervened – part of a line producer’s job is to throw yourself in front of bears!”
At times during filming, the contestants – chosen from 100,000 applicants – found themselves just metres away from the huge mammals.
Maria added: “There was a point where we were expecting a team to arrive at the hotel and then we heard on our crew radios that there were bears outside.
“I’ve never seen the safety adviser’s eyes go so big. We had to hope the bears would go into the trees and it wouldn’t affect anything.”
On a different occasion, a bear was spotted “roaming” outside the hotel in the early hours of the morning.
Commissioner Michael Jochnowitz said: “There was another time when there was a bear roaming around the hotel at 4am.
“I watched the footage and even as a viewer, you’re like, ‘F***, that’s so close.’ ”
Elsewhere during filming, the contestants were face to face with other animals, including elk and moose.
‘Race Across The World’ starts on March 22 at 9pm on BBC One.

Anneka Rice hails Treasure Hunt as landmark for women on TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Anneka Rice has hailed her ‘Treasure Hunt’ series as a landmark moment for women.
The 64-year-old presenter – who flew in a helicopter following clues from 1982 to 1988 – has reflected on the way her programme helped change the way women were presented with more opportunities on air.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, she said: “Up till then, when you saw women on television, they were mostly draped over cars on ‘The Golden Shot’ or in a bikini being chased by Benny Hill. Or they were newsreaders behind a desk.
“Suddenly, there I was, calling the shots.
And she also pointed to the way her ‘Challenge Anneka’ show in the 1990s – which she is reviving for Channel 5 – featured women behind the camera.
She added: “It was mostly women. It was groundbreaking stuff. Many of them have gone on to practically run television.”
The series saw Anneka take on new tasks with absolutely no knowledge of what she’d be doing, and she’s delighted to be bringing it back to Channel 5.
She previously said: “There’s been whispers for years, because anytime anyone talks to me about doing anything on telly, after about ten minutes the conversation always comes back to Challenge, and all the broadcasters have discussed it with me.
“Some wanted me to do it as a comedy thing, because I’m now doing stand-up comedy, and they wanted me and a comedian doing it together, and it just never felt right.”
Meanwhile, bosses were determined not to mess with the format too much for its revival.
She added: “It was the alchemy of Ben Frow at Channel 5, who just went, ‘No, I just want it as it was, no gimmicks.’
“And you know, that was right, because at the end of the day, it is literally just about kindness, community, and the power of collective. It’s not about gimmicks at all. Well, apart from the truck!”
