Martine McCutcheon: ‘Perimenopause makes you feel like you’ve lost your own damn mind’

OHMYGOSSIP — Martine McCutcheon says perimenopause makes her feel like she’s “lost” her “damn mind”.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star added she thought she would cope fine with the development due to her various health conditions including fibromyalgia and M.E, but she is struggling with anxiety and a “list” of symptoms such as “the hot flushes, the insomnia, the brain fog and the fatigue”.
The 46-year-old actress captioned a selfie on Instagram: “Peri menopause symptoms… Such Fun! (laughing face emoji) (head exploding emoji) (monkey covering eyes emoji.)
“I have the hot flushes, the insomnia, the brain fog and fatigue… The list goes on doesn’t it?!
“And to be honest, having lived with M.E/CFS and fibro since my 20’s, those symptoms seem to be something I can cope with… (touch wood!) (praying hands emoji.)
“However, what I’ve personally not heard mentioned as much, is the crippling anxiety you can get with the peri menopause. A kind of irrational anxiety that makes no sense whatsoever!
“You feel like you’ve lost your own damn mind! Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t seem to hear about this side of it as much.”
Martine continued: “I wanted to share this, just in case any of you out there feel the same and feel scared or worried – You aren’t alone!
“I’m pleased to report after going through a phase of not even feeling confident enough to drive (That’s SO not me!) that I’m now feeling much better and I’m working my way back to my own “normality.”
The ‘Love, Actually’ actress – who has son Rafferty, eight, with her singer husband Jack McManus, 38 – recently defended the 2003 Richard Curtis rom-com – in which her character Natalie has an affair with the Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant – against “fat shaming” allegations.
She told the Daily Mirror: “First of all, it’s another woman (Annie) that mentions Natalie’s weight and Natalie herself. Of course, it’s easy to say now: ‘We would have done this, we would have done that,’ but I also think that the characters weren’t being PC.
“They weren’t perfect humans – they were talking about their insecurities, their affairs. Natalie, bless her, is so innocent in telling the prime minister about her insecurities. I think that’s part of what made it so charming and real.
“There are a lot of things that you’re not allowed to say now, but I think that in a film that covers so much emotion and so much love, you need a little bit of reality in there – it’s not always about ticking all the boxes.”

Heston Blumenthal marries for third time

OHMYGOSSIP — TV chef Heston Blumenthal has married for the third time.
The Michelin-starred ‘Heston’s Feasts’ star, 56, got hitched to French entrepreneur Melanie Ceysson, 36, in her homeland on Saturday. (25.03.23)
Their wedding was in a village wedding hall in Provence – the area that inspired Heston, who is famed for recipes including snail porridge, exploding puddings and egg-and-bacon flavoured ice cream – to take up cooking.
According to the Daily Mail, the couple held a reception at their nearby house for around 60 guests, including Heston’s fellow TV chef Raymond Blanc, 73, as well as former BBC director-general Lord Birt, 78, and ‘Great British Menu’ judge Matthew Fort, 76.
Raymond told the newspaper: “Ever since Heston did an all-too-brief week in my kitchen, I’ve loved his fire and creativity. Over the years he’s helped me improve, and I hope I’ve also helped him. That’s our special bond, so, of course, I had to be here.”
Guests are said to have been served a series of Heston’s signature dishes from his restaurants including jelly of oyster and passion fruit, meat fruit, triple-cooked chips.
Candles were also reportedly on display that turned out to be edible.
The chef was married to first wife, Zanna, from 1989 to 2016 and the couple had three children.
It was followed by a relationship with US food writer Suzanne Pirret from 2011 to 2015, and three years later Heston was said to have got married to Stephanie Gouveia, with whom he shares a five-year-old child.
The Maldives ceremony was later said by the Mail not to have been legally binding.
Heston met Malanie while she was working at a hotel in French Alps ski resort Val-d’Isere, where he was staying for a Christmas holiday with his table-tennis coach.
He announced in January he had proposed to her, telling the Daily Mail Diary: “I have found my other half. I am going to get officially married to Melanie.”

Andy Serkis: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is mind-blowing

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Serkis has big expectations for ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’.
The 58-year-old star played ape leader Caesar in the three previous movies, but will not appear in the latest flick in the rebooted franchise after the character’s death in the 2017 film ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, and has high praise for Wes Ball’s film.
Speaking to CinemaBlend, Andy said: “I think Wes Ball is going to do an amazing job with this film. I think it’s, from what I’ve heard and what I’ve seen, there’s some amazing conceptual artwork.
“And where they’ve chosen to land the story and take off with the next iteration, I think it’s gonna blow people’s minds.”
‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ is slated for release in May 2024 and will star Owen Teague in the lead role of Cornelius, the son of Caesar.
Meanwhile, Andy recently revealed that he would love to play James Bond after featuring in the movie ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ alongside Idris Elba, who has often been mooted as a potential 007.
The ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor said: “Me, to be the next James Bond?! Oh, absolutely, yes. Let’s put it out there! I’d quite happily do that. I can be suave!”
Serkis plays the serial killer David Robey in the ‘Luther’ movie but was hesitant about playing another antagonist on the big screen.
He said: “I’ve played a number of villainous characters (eg Gollum, Ian Brady) but when I first got the script, this character was so dark, do I really want to go there again?
“I literally wanted to throw the script in the bin and have a shower after I’d read it.”

Owen Wilson did not try and mimic Bob Ross in Paint

OHMYGOSSIP — Owen Wilson did not set out to emulate Bob Ross in ‘Paint’.
The 54-year-old actor stars in the comedy film as an artist called Carl Nargle but did not plan to match the late painter’s serene style, even though he does sport ‘The Joy of Painting’ host’s afro hairstyle in the movie.
Owen told Variety: “I’m not good at doing imitations, and so that was never really a possibility. But certainly that quality that he had when you watched the show – and why people still do – is like a little spa treatment or something. You come out like, ‘Oh, I feel relaxed and I feel better.'”
Wilson’s character is the presenter of Vermont’s most popular painting show until he is usurped by a younger, better artist and the star got to enjoy flipping the script on the tranquil image of art.
The ‘Marry Me’ star said: “Hopefully what people will appreciate and enjoy is the same thing that I did when I first read the script, and that was just how funny it is, and the idea of somebody who has not felt the need to change with the times, because everything’s going so perfect in his life.
“We can all sort of get comfortable and complacent if things are going your way, and then all of a sudden, when things aren’t, that can be an upsetting thing. And so the way that (Carl) deals with that and processes that is funny, but it’s also kind of moving.”
Wilson revealed that he is enjoying the way his career has evolved and is looking forward to returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV series ‘Loki’ as Mobius M. Mobius.
He explained: “I really loved working with Tom Hiddleston. I always felt really comfortable coming up with stuff with him and how hard he worked, so I just enjoyed getting back doing stuff with Loki and my character Mobius. I really liked playing that character.”

Richard Osman brands TV industry ‘snobbish’ in wake of daytime telly Bafta nods

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Osman has branded the television industry “snobbish” in the wake of the Bafta TV nominations.
The ‘Pointless’ host, 52, hit out after the academy’s daytime show nods were released ahead of the awards on May 14 – which included a show broadcast at 8pm.
Of the three daytime TV shows in the running for an award, ‘Scam Interceptors’ is on at 10am and ‘The Chase’ is normally broadcast at 5pm.
The third programme in the category, ‘The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit’, was a special edition which featured King Charles broadcast at 8pm, even though it usually airs at 2.30pm or 8pm.
Richard said on Twitter: “Daytime TV punches far above its weight in terms of ratings, cost and popularity. To have only two daytime shows on this list is a bit of a kick in the teeth for producers.
“If I made ‘Bridge of Lies’, ‘HUTH’ (‘Homes Under the Hammer’), ‘Come Dine’ (‘With Me’), etc I think I’d feel robbed. Why bother having the category?
“It can be such a snobbish industry sometimes. Also, I love all three of those nominated shows (but the brilliant Repair Shop was on at 8pm.)”
Supporters of Richard’s angry tweet included BBC producer Richard Atkins-Greig.
He commented: “Well said Richard; there is an incredible snobbery about daytime TV. Thank you… .”
A Bafta spokesman told the Daily Telegraph: “We introduced the Daytime category with the intention of giving more profile to programmes that historically have been under-recognised for their important contribution to the TV land scape and we will take on board all feedback.”
Writer Chris Lang echoed Richard’s comments and tweeted he is convinced Bafta “snobbery” and “cultural bias” has seen ITV overlooked in its television nominations.
The 61-year-old creator of crime drama ‘Unforgotten’, which stars Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinead Keenan, added he thought Academy members considered the channel’s shows too “common” to honour, despite its prolific and critically acclaimed output.
He tweeted after this year’s Bafta TV 2023 nominations were announced: “C4, ITV and BBC all make an equal proportion of scripted shows that are superb, good or ‘meh’.
“And yet every year, Bafta members ignore one channel. This year from 54 scripted nominees, 22 were BBC shows, 10 for C4 and just four for ITV.
“What cultural bias is at work here? And it’s not to do with volume.
“ITV makes about a third less content than BBC, but way more than C4.
“In 2023, the members of the pre-eminent TV and film organisation in this country still secretly think ITV is ‘common’.”
Chris’ ‘The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe’ drama about the John Darwin disappearance scandal was among the ITV shows nominated, in the best mini series category – alongside the BBC’s ‘This is Going to Hurt’, BBC Three’s ‘Mood’ and ‘A Spy Among Friends’, which was available to stream on ITVX from December 2022.
But he insisted: “Bafta members don’t really watch ITV. They think it’s ‘common’, so loads of ITV shows don’t get past the first members’ ballot as far as the juries, where jurors are obliged to watch.
“Class… the last prejudice to be tackled head on. There can be no other explanation for it. The numbers do not lie.”

Brett Goldstein reveals ‘Ted Lasso’ fans’ abuse requests: ‘One asked me to call their aunt and tell her to f*** off’

OHMYGOSSIP — Brett Goldstein gets fans asking him to say “f*** off” like his sweary ‘Ted Lasso’ character Roy Kent.
The 42-year-old actor says he is happy to oblige viewers of the Apple TV + comedy who want him to step into his part as the coach of fictional Premier League side Richmond AFC, but sometimes wants to know if the person on the receiving end of his jokey abuse “deserves it”.
He told the Daily Star newspaper about being asked to curse at fans: “I had that in a supermarket the other day. ‘Can you call my auntie and tell her to f*** off?’
“I was like: ‘I’m going to need more info on your auntie. I don’t know what she’s done – I don’t know if she deserves this.
“‘I’m going to need a whole bio on this woman before I complete this task.’”
Brett recently revealed he finds it “heartbreaking” footballer-turned-coach Roy and his on-sceen girlfriend Keeley Jones – played by Juno Dawson – had split up.
He told TV Insider: “I don’t think I can answer that. And likewise, when it comes to hope for the fan-favourite couple, all I can say is I love Roy and Keeley, and it’s heartbreaking that they’ve broken up.
“Beyond that…. you’ll have to wait and see.”
The Emmy-winner labelled his ever-evolving relationship with cocky footballer Jamie Tartt – brought to life by Phil Dunster on ‘Ted Lasso’ – is the “other great love story” in the show, which also stars Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham.
Brett said: “Well, I think it’s the other great love story in ‘Ted Lasso’. I think Roy’s realized, you know, for all Roy’s flaws and self-loathing, he does see in Jamie a version of himself.”

Peter Andre: ‘I was petrified by run-in with Japanese mafioso’

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Andre was left terrified by an encounter with a Japanese mafioso.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ contestant, 50, revealed he had a run-in with a gangster demonstrating his “authority” while he was living in Tokyo and “fortunately” the situation didn’t “escalate”.
He told the Sunday Times: “I was at a bar in Tokyo, where I lived for a few months.
“On this particular night, this man just started yelling at me really aggressively and it turned out he was a member of the Japanese mafia, the Yakuza.
“I had no idea what he was saying but apparently it was a demonstration of his authority.
“I was petrified but fortunately the situation didn’t escalate.”
Peter also spilled about the time he and the 90s boyband the Backstreet Boys – Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Howie Dorough – spent time in a sauna without any clothes and was left cringing by the encounter.
He said: “I toured with the Backstreet Boys for a year, and we would play basketball in the afternoons then hang out in the best restaurants and nightclubs after the shows, but one time we decided to visit a steam room and sauna in Germany.
“We turned up in our towels and soon realised that everyone else was naked, which we weren’t too keen on.”
“It was a mixed sauna too, so we were just sitting there surrounded by all these naked men and women. We all just looked at each other giggling.”
Peter – who has teenagers Junior, 17, and Princess, 15, with his ex Katie Price and Amelia and Theo with his 33-year-old wife Emily – recently shared the “simple” secrets to remaining in the spotlight for more than three decades.
Peter told the Argus: “It’s simple. Work hard, stay true to yourself and don’t be an idiot.”

Stephen Mulhern ‘beyond excited’ to be hosting ‘Deal or No Deal’ reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Mulhern is “beyond excited” to be hosting the ‘Deal or No Deal’ reboot.
The series, originally presented by Noel Edmonds, 74, on Channel 4 from 2005 to 2016, is coming back after a seven-year break and will be shown on ITV, with Stephen saying he has already been practising his role fronting the show by using cereal boxes at home in place of its famous red ones.
‘Catchphrase’ presenter Stephen, 45, said about how he has always been a “huge fan” of the show: “Wow, what an opportunity, I’m beyond excited to be hosting the brand-new series. I’ve always been such a huge fan of the show – so much so, I’ve been practising at home with small cereal boxes!
“It looks so simple but it’s an incredibly compelling game for both those playing and the viewers watching at home.
“It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour. I can’t wait to get started.”
ITV’s head of entertainment commissioning Katie Rawcliffe said about the show’s comeback: “Deal or No Deal is such an iconic format, and we are delighted that it will be joining the ITV family.
“Stephen’s infectious warmth and wit mixed with his natural rapport with members of the public is the perfect combination for this much-loved TV series.”
The gameshow saw contestants choosing one of 22 boxes, each containing 1p to £250,000, with The Banker increasing tension by calling in on his red telephone and offering cash for the contestant’s box regardless of what is inside to try and block them from taking home the jackpot.
Its new version will follow the format, but will also see “a brand-new setting with brand-new prize boxes and a new batch of contestants”.

Phillip Schofield ‘was shocked by his brother’s confession’

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield was “shocked” when his brother admitted to sexually abusing a teenage boy, a court has been told.
Timothy Schofield visited the house of the veteran TV presenter, where he allegedly confessed to watching porn and performing a sex act with the teenager.
Timothy, 54, appeared in the dock at Exeter Crown Court on Monday (27.03.23), where he’s facing 11 counts of sexual offences.
Robin Shellard, a barrister who specialises in sexual offence claims, told the court: “On the 12th of September 2021 he phoned his brother Phillip saying that his head was in a mess and could he come and see him.
“The defendant is seven years younger than Phillip and they had not been particularly close growing up. However, in December 2019, the defendant told his brother he was gay.
“According to Phillip, the defendant travelled up that day and he was extremely agitated.
“His brother described him as very angry and distressed. The defendant also told his brother that he was impotent.
“The defendant then said his brother would hate him for what he was about to say, his brother said that he wouldn’t and then the defendant said he had their time together and they had watched porn and w***** together.
“Phillip Schofield then said ‘what did you just say?’ and the defendant repeated it was last year and just once.
“Phillip said it should never happen again.”
Shellard claimed that Phillip, 60, was “shocked” by the confession.
Shellard continued: “The defendant then started to talk about the boy’s body.
“The defendant said it was ‘time’ and Phillip said: ‘What the hell is time?’ and was shocked.
“Later the defendant left for home and it was not spoken of again.”
Meanwhile, the judge, Justice Johanna Cutts, has urged the jurors to ignore Phillip’s celebrity status.
She said: “His brother is Phillip Schofield, and he happens to be the well-known television personality.
“I say happens to be as that fact has no relevance at all in this case. He is not going to be coming to this court to give evidence – any evidence that he could have given is not in dispute.”
Timothy has denied all of the charges and the court case continues.

Robert Downey Jr. eyes lead role in Vertigo remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Downey Jr. is set to star in a remake of ‘Vertigo’.
Paramount Pictures have acquired a reboot of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic psychological thriller and it is seen as a potential starring vehicle for the ‘Iron Man’ star, who is producing the project with his wife Susan Downey for their Team Downey production company.
‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight will write the screenplay for the new film after it was recently confirmed that he is committed to penning an untitled ‘Star Wars’ movie for Lucasfilm.
Robert has kept a low profile as an actor since featuring in the flop ‘Dolittle’ in 2020 and is next due to appear in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic ‘Oppenheimer’ this summer.
The original ‘Vertigo’ was released in 1958 and starred James Stewart as John ‘Scottie’ Ferguson, a San Francisco police detective who retired due to a crippling fear of heights brought on by a severe case of vertigo.
When he’s hired to tail an acquaintance’s wife, Madeleine (Kim Novak), Scottie becomes obsessed with her – but his fear of heights renders him powerless to save her when she climbs the tower of a Spanish mission and plunges to her death.
After that, things get truly strange.
‘Vertigo’ divided critics when it was first released but began to gain recognition as a masterpiece by the 1980s.
In 1989, it was one of the first 25 movies selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
A handful of Hitchcock films have been remade over the years but no American studio has attempted an outright remake of ‘Vertigo’ until now.

The TV business is stressful, says Yasmin Finney

OHMYGOSSIP — Yasmin Finney thinks the TV industry is “stressful”.
The 19-year-old star loves working in the TV business – but she also recognises the need to “let [her] hair down” from time to time.
Yasmin – who will play Rose in ‘Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary series – told Vogue: “When you’re in this industry you have so many hands on you and so many people in your ear, which is why it’s so important to have time to yourself.
“Anything can be a form of self-care, anything that makes you happy, whether that’s hanging out with your friends or chosen family or putting a face mask on or making yourself a gorgeous herbal tea.
“I just got a dog called Coco and I love spending time with her.
“Rest is also really important. It’s just a break from the stresses of the industry. It’s an amazing industry but it’s stressful. You always want to bring your A-game, so it’s important to have time where you can let your hair down.”
Yasmin actually developed a following on TikTok – where she discussed her experiences as a black trans woman – before she made her acting breakthrough.
The TV star explained that in spite of her recent success, she still suffers from body image issues.
She shared: “As long as you have confidence in yourself, and as long as you look in the mirror and you think, ‘I’m gorgeous,’ that’s the only thing that matters.
“I still suffer with things like body image [issues] and I have gender dysphoria, which is what most trans people have. It’s hard to navigate the world when you look at yourself in the mirror and don’t see what you want to see. But the reality is beauty is more than skin deep. ”

I’ve always had a feminine energy, says Yasmin Finney

OHMYGOSSIP — Yasmin Finney has always had a “feminine energy”.
The 19-year-old star – who is one of the most influential actresses within the transgender community – has revealed that she’s always felt “connected” to make-up and other beauty products.
Yasmin told Vogue: “I found my feet with beauty when I first went to Superdrug, aged about 15, and I got the cheapest foundation. At that point I was pre-transition, so I think I always knew I had this feminine energy in me. Something connected me to make-up.”
The actress – who is joining the cast of ‘Doctor Who’ – uses make-up to boost her confidence.
Yasmin explained: “I started going into school with a little bit of make-up on. I’d have to tone it down. But, over time, when it got to prom I was ready to kill it.
“I remember the amount of compliments I got on my smoky eye, which I did for the first time for prom. I just loved playing around with it and seeing what worked.
“I learned that make-up was a way to escape but also a way to really feel myself. People started to look at me differently at school as it really boosted my confidence.”
Yasmin also revealed that make-up has helped her to feel “liberated and free”.
The TV star said: “For me, make-up is a playground. It’s also an armour with which to navigate society.
“It makes me feel confident and feel liberated and free. You can express yourself in whatever way you want. Obviously you should love your natural self – and I do – but there’s no harm in having a little concealer, foundation and mascara on, girl.”
