Coronation Street’s Ryan Prescott in makeup for 2 hours a day as part of acid attack plot

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ actor Ryan Prescott has to spend two hours a day in makeup after his character was the victim of an acid attack.
Viewers of the ITV soap were left shocked on Monday night (27.03.23) when Ryan Connor threw himself in the firing line of stalker Justin Rutherford’s (Andrew Still) corrosive chemical assault on bride Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), and the star admits it is a lengthy process to put the layered pieces of prosthetic on accurately.
When asked on ‘This Morning’ how long it takes to put his new prosthetics on, he said: “About an hour, and about an hour off. They’re getting quicker though.
“The hardest thing is to match direct continuity, with colouration. It’s layered pieces of prosthetic with Bondo, and then the colouration can take time as well. They have to match it to the scene before.”
Princess Anne visited the ‘Corrie’ set earlier this month as Patron of The Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), to speak to Ryan and his co-stars about the hard-hitting plot.
And the actor admits everyone was surprised how “well versed” she was about the soap.
He said: “She was extremely well versed in all things ‘Coronation Street’, so I think the few of us at the studio are hoping she is a bit of a fan. It would be nice.
“It was really lovely to have her in the studio. She came into the Rovers and we talked through the scene.”
Ryan, 34, admitted this week he was “excited” to take on the “gritty” plot when he was first told about it.
He said: “[‘Corrie’ producer] Iain MacLeod first called me when I was on holiday. I was sitting on a sunbed by a pool in Crete at the time. I didn’t really know what to expect, but he told me that something big was going to be in the pipeline for Ryan.
“I had no idea that it was going to be something so gritty, because Ryan usually slides into the more humorous elements of the show. So to have something so serious, I was just excited, to be honest!
“It was something gritty to get my teeth into and I was excited to explore different things for Ryan. It’s something of real substance, so as an actor you can get stuck in.”

Christine McGuinness: Me and Paddy will always be family

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine McGuinness insists she and her estranged husband Paddy McGuinness will “always be family”.
The 35-year-old star and the ‘Top Gear’ presenter – who have twins Penelope and Leo, nine, and daughter Felicity, six, who all have autism – split last July after 11 years together, but she insisted they are all “living in a happy home”.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she said: “We want to keep things the same as much as possible for the children. I don’t want anything to affect them. We are family, and we’ll always be family and we’re living in a happy home.”
Christine was diagnosed with autism in 2021, and the star admitted it was a “huge relief”.
She said: “It was a huge relief it answered a lot of questions and since then I’m understanding myself a lot more, life’s better.
“I didn’t realise everyone doesn’t talk to themselves all day or rehearse conversations. I think you’ve got to prepare but apparently people have really casual conversations.
“I’m OK today as I know what I’m talking about but if the discussion went somewhere else, I would have to take a moment to think about it.”
Christine recently told how she felt “heartbroken” after seeing photos of Paddy arm-in-arm with All Saints singer Nicole Appleton, 46, in 2018 during a night out in Soho.
She told OK! magazine: “I couldn’t speak about it, because I was heartbroken and it was such a difficult time.”
But Christine has admitted the images were a “turning point” in her life.
She explained: “It was just before my 30th and my marriage was in a difficult place. But it really made a huge difference in my life. It made me look at what I want, it made me look at my marriage. It made me think, ‘I really don’t want this to fall apart, I want our family to stay together.’ ”
The moment caused Christine to reflect on her desire for “independence” away from her role as a wife and mother.
She said: “It made me realise I wanted my independence back, to get up and go to work, and go out and try and socialise. I want my children to see me going to work.
“Paddy realised how much time he was spending away from home and that he needed to be at home more. He’s become such a better dad since then, because he’s really tried and put the effort in.
“And it wouldn’t be fair to always drag it up. I’ve never mentioned it since it happened.
“We got over it, we dealt with it. We never really spoke about it or argued about it, we just moved on.”

Rita Simons hopes Pilgrimage appearance will show she’s not EastEnders’ Roxy

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Simons hopes starring in the new season of ‘The Pilgrimage’ will show she is not ‘EastEnders’ “party girl” Roxy Mitchell.
The 46-year-old star admitted it was “refreshing” to explore her Jewish faith and heritage alongside celebrities with a variety of religious backgrounds, such as actress Su Pollard, ex Boyzone member Shane Lynch and Paralympian skier Millie Knight, on the fifth series of the BBC Two programme.
She told OK! magazine: “It was refreshing to be asked to do something where we’re talking spiritual ideas and culture. You’re literally digging into someone’s soul when you’re asking about their faith.”
Rita hopes her appearance on the show will allow people to see her as something other than her “party girl” character Roxy from the long-running BBC One soap.
She said: “I wanted to show I’m not this party girl from Ibiza in the East End, I’m actually not Roxy, I’m Rita, I’m a mum, I’m middle-age.”
In January, the panto star admitted she and her on-screen sister Samantha Womack, 50 – who played Ronnie Mitchell – were “gutted” to leave Walford and “didn’t want to die” in 2017.
Rita told ‘Good Morning Britain’: “Obviously it’s no secret we were gutted to leave, because we loved our characters. I love Sam, she’s my best friend, you become a pretend family.
“We did want to leave but we didn’t want to die. And to watch your “sister” die, and to willingly kill your own character you’ve played for 10 years and you love, is a weird dilemma to be in, because you have to do the filming…”
But Rita believes ‘EastEnders’ will “be fine” under the stewardship of producer Chris Clenshaw.
She said while on the ITV1 breakfast show: “With someone like Chris in charge, I think ‘EastEnders’ is going to be fine.
“I don’t think people will ever want rid of ‘EastEnders’.
“Maybe over the years it might die out as there’s such a huge range of stuff to watch. But for the short term, for this generation and the next, I don’t see it going anywhere.”

White Lines star Jade Alleyne expecting first baby

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘White Lines’ star Jade Alleyne is pregnant.
The 22-year-old former CBBC actress – who is also known for playing Clem Burton in children’s TV series ‘Four O’Clock Club’ – is expecting her first baby with her boyfriend, and she is excited for their “new phase”.
She wrote on Instagram: “This man is my shelter, my rock, my best friend, my confidant, my co-pilot, my greatest supporter and confidence builder, a ray of light in the best times and the times I need it the most, the love of my life and the father of the new generation of family we are building.
“This new phase of life for me has been the deepest, most challenging and most rewarding. (sic)”
Jade revealed the “extreme joy” she felt meant she wanted to be more open about her news than she usually is.
She continued: “So BLESSINGS!!! Praises and thanks to HIM for this beautiful gift.
“I’m naturally very private but feel extreme joy from being transparent enough to share this news.
“May God watch over our newborn and see us through a healthy delivery. (sic)”
The former ‘The Lodge’ star shared a slideshow of professional snaps on the photo-sharing app, and captioned it with a Bible excerpt.
Jade wrote: “Jah soldiers [ninja emoji] [red heart emoji] Moving in faith and strength with love.
“If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto a mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
“Matthew 17:20.”
In November, Jade told fans how she gets a “sense of freedom” from rollerskating.
She said: “Skating has given me something which has been unlevelled- a sense of freedom, enjoyment, and peace of mind. When your on your skates your world is calm, which is what I believe every skater returns to their wheels for.”

Maureen Lipman’s dog dying on Coronation Street brought back memories of her own pooch passing

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Maureen Lipman says her dog dying on ‘Coronation Street’ “brought back” the passing of her real-life pooch.
The 76-year-old actress’ character on the ITV1 soap, Evelyn Plummer, lost her beloved greyhound Cerberus after the mischievous mutt ate an Eccles cake – and the currants prompted kidney failure – but the fictional doggie death reminded her of the “awful” time she had saying goodbye to her own hound Diva via video call, because she had filming commitments at the time.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Last year, my 16-year-old dog Diva had to be put down. She’d been coughing for weeks so I knew it was the end.
“The awful thing was, I was filming in Salford so I had to say goodbye to her on Zoom. It was horrible. The story with Cerberus brought all that back.”
Maureen thought the dog who played Cerberus knew it was his last day on the cobbles because he looked so dejected.
She said: “The animal looked so hangdog on its last day, I swear he knew the storyline. It was incredibly sad. One of the girls in makeup asked if I needed a tear stick. I told her I needed something to stop me crying, not start me.”
The ‘Educating Rita’ star labelled her on-screen persona “a terrible old bat”, but confessed art does, in fact, imitate life sometimes.
Maureen said: “We’re very alike. Like her, I am assertive, I do stand my ground but, unlike her, I don’t steal bottles of brandy from convenience stores.
“But I know that woman inside out. I know where she shops, I know why she’s tight. I know why she wouldn’t get her vest off when she had a lover.”

Kelvin Harrison Jr. spent six hours a day practising the violin for Chevalier

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelvin Harrison Jr. spent six hours a day learning to play the violin for ‘Chevalier’.
The 28-year-old actor plays the violinist and composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, in the new biographical film and worked intensely with his music teacher father Kelvin Harrison to master the instrument.
Discussing the learning process, Kelvin told Variety: “I wanted to go and be with him because he’s a music teacher. I knew he could guide me in how to pace myself.
“He said, ‘We’re going to do four to six hours daily. We can break it up the morning, before lunch or after lunch and before you go to bed at night.'”
In the movie, Chevalier climbs the ranks in French society during the 18th century for his celebrated musical work and the ‘Cyrano’ actor was “blown away” by the story of the composer who has been hailed as the Black Mozart.
He said: “I had no clue who he was, but he was pretty bold, and I was blown away by him.
“What touched me the most was the resilience he had despite the amount of rejection.”
Kelvin hopes that the new film gives Chevalier the recognition he “deserves” for his story and musical work.
The ‘Elvis’ star said: “What I was so excited to do is give him an opportunity, where he wasn’t put second and where he wasn’t discarded of, and giving him my full undivided attention.
“This movie ultimately will give him the big stage, the love, respect and fandom that he deserves.”

John Boyega is ‘cooking’ Attack the Block sequel with Joe Cornish

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega has teased that an “exciting” ‘Attack the Block’ sequel is taking shape.
The 31-year-old star is set to reprise his role as Moses in the follow-up to the 2011 sci-fi movie about an alien invasion in South London and revealed that he has been working closely with director Joe Cornish on the new project.
John told the Metro newspaper: “Joe is in the writing lab, cooking that, writing up something cool.
“We’ve penned ideas, brainstormed, we’ve been to London and met up, traced every character to where they’ve been.
“We’ve looked at London, how much has changed. We’re very, very excited.”
Boyega plays the veteran US marine Brian Brown-Easley, who resorted to holding up a bank due to his dire financial situation, in his new movie ‘Breaking’ and discussed the “sense of responsibility” he felt in telling the former serviceman’s story.
The ‘Star Wars’ actor explained: “You have a freedom but it’s a different type of freedom.
“You don’t get to create this character from your imagination. Brian is interesting enough anyway for it to be a meaty role as an actor, because he goes into so many different types of emotions.”
However, he was able to improvise at some points.
Boyega said: “A lot of times, (my co-stars) didn’t know what the hell I was going to do. (The director told me), ‘You’ve got this space… play.'”
‘Breaking’ was one of the final roles for the late Michael K. Williams before his death in 2021 and John found it “amazing” to be working alongside ‘The Wire’ star.
The ‘Small Axe’ star said: “He’s been one of the actors I really liked watching. If he’s in something, I’m most likely going to go watch that.”

Strictly’s Shirley Ballas writes murder mystery novel

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas has written her first novel.
The 62-year-old ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge has put pen to paper to author a murder-mystery book titled ‘Murder on the Dance Floor’ which she describes as full of ‘sex, lies and intrigue’ admitting it was so raunchy it got her mum “hot and bothered” when she read it.
Shirley told The Mirror newspaper: “It’s a great sex, lies and intrigue murder mystery and a real page turner.
“My mum read it in six hours. She’s an avid reader of Mills Boon [romance books]and it got her hot and bothered. I asked her afterwards if it was good and she said she couldn’t put it down.”
She added: “I like to write and I have a vivid imagination.”
Shirley revealed she was inspired to go into fiction writing after putting together her autobiography – because there were so many racy details she had to leave out.
She explained: “When I wrote my autobiography, there was a lot I couldn’t include, so I thought, ‘I’ll go into this genre’.”
It comes after Shirley hinted she might not return to ‘Strictly’ after suffering brutal trolling online. The star – who has yet to sign a new contract with the show – told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Last year I was struggling. It wasn’t just a little bit, it was a lot – the majority of it was in silence. “I felt the abuse snowballed out of control and impacted me in such a negative way … And that was an all-time low since I joined the show – it was the most negativity I’d ever experienced. The BBC were brilliant, checking in on me and offering counselling and support.”
Asked if she has considered quitting the show, she replied: “It was a difficult series, I’ll leave it at that … Will I go back to ‘Strictly’? I always take one step at a time. I absolutely love the job. If it was just that, and there was nothing else surrounding it, I can’t think of a more rewarding job to do.”

‘Never say never!’ Jacqueline Jossa teases EastEnders comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacqueline Jossa would “never say never” to the idea of returning to ‘EastEnders.’
The 30-year-old actress starred as Lauren Branning on the BBC One soap opera from 2010 until 2018 and has now hailed her time on Albert Square as the “best job ever” although a comeback would have to be at the “right time” for both herself and the show.
She told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘EastEnders’ was the best job ever and a huge part of my life – it was the making of me. Lauren was a massive part of my life and I’m not ready to let go. I’ve always said to never say never, but it would have to be the right time for me and the show.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner – who has Ella, eight, and four-year-old Mia with ‘TOWIE’ star husband Dan Osborne – did make a brief comeback to the show towards the end of 2022 for the funeral of legendary character Dot Cotton following the death of actress June Brown and admitted that the short stint was “bittersweet” but is sure that her on-screen stepgrandmother would have been “happy” with the episodes.
She added: “I loved being back on set, although it was bittersweet because we were filming such sad scenes and June was such an amazing part of ‘EastEnders’. At the same time, it was beautiful and special. June would have loved it. She was hilarious and she would no doubt have said something funny about it, but she’d have been really proud and happy.
“I was really grateful that I was asked to come back for it. I went back in a heartbeat, there was no question of whether or not I would.I hadn’t realised just how much I missed all the people. It quickly felt like home being back at the set and it had a real family feel. That place just has such a big place in my heart.

‘That was awesome!’ Keanu Reeves loved getting to use the shotgun John Wick: Chapter 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Keanu Reeves “had to do all the choreography” for handling his shotgun in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4.’
The 58-year-old actor has starred in the title role of the legendary hitman in the action thriller film series since its first outing in 2014 and after getting to handle the dragon’s breath shotgun in the latest instalment, admitted that it was “awesome” to use the firearm but admitted that he could only hear the sound and see the shells eject because of the nature of filming.
He told Collider: “shotgun was awesome. Because of the way that we use rounds, the technology, they’re all plug guns, so nothing actually comes out of the barrel. So I don’t get to see all that fire. It’s all kind of post fire. I get to hear the sound and get to see the shells eject. And yeah, so I get that little pop, pop, pop but I don’t get to see any. I saw some people on fire. And so the way it was stitched together, we basically, I had to do all the choreography. Someone would count out loud because the sequence needed to sync with the camera on its fly system. So it was like ‘1, 2’ and you’re like ‘3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.’ And that would be the end of the take.”
Earlier this month, Chad Stahelski hinted that ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ could be the last movie in the franchise.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Chad said: “In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We’re going to give ‘John Wick’ a rest. I’m sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute.”

Nicolas Cage drank his own blood while filming Dracula role

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage accidentally drank his own blood while portraying Count Dracula in new movie ‘Renfield’.
The 59-year-old actor sank his teeth into the role of Bram Stoker’s vampire opposite Nicholas Hoult as the bloodsucker’s downtrodden servant and he’s revealed he kept biting his own lip because his ceramic fake fangs were so sharp.
In an Ask-Me-Anything session on Reddit, Cage explained: ” No reason in terms of method, but the fangs were genuine fangs, they were ceramic and quite pointy. So I did bite my lip a few times which made me drink my own blood.”
The actor previously told The Sun newspaper he decided to wear the fangs as much as possible so he could get used to speaking with them in.
He explained: “I was trying to give the character an eloquent and elegant voice that was pretty hard to do with all the ceramic material in my mouth. But I got used to it by taking them home, leaving them in when I was in my hotel room.”
Cage also previously insisted he took inspiration from Sir Christopher Lee’s iconic portrayal of the toothy Hollywood villain, telling Collider: “We wanted it to be more homage, more Christopher Lee. I favoured Christopher Lee as Dracula and I liked his kind of sixties hair ‘do, but the wardrobe, the costume, and no, I didn’t come up with the idea for the rings.
“That all came out of a wardrobe. They came in with all that.”
Cage added of his decision to play Dracula in the film: “Well, first of all, I don’t know how you say no to Dracula, but two things come to mind. One, he’s a character that’s been done well many times and then been done poorly many times. So you want to be on the side of doing something well.
“And also you want to be on the side of doing something fresh and something that pops. To me, because the movie’s really not about me, Dracula rather, I don’t have a lot of screen time.
“It’s really Nick Hoult’s movie, and it’s about Renfield.”
‘Renfield’ hits cinemas on April 14.

Rina Sawayama turned down John Wick role at first

OHMYGOSSIP — Rina Sawayama needed to be convinced to join the cast of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’.
The 32-year-old singer makes her movie debut as Akira in the new action flick but director Chad Stahelski revealed that she initially turned down the part at first.
The 54-year-old filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly: “I got on a phone call with her. (I said), ‘Hi, I’m Chad; I’m the director of John Wick.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, I like these movies.’ I was like, ‘That’s good; how would you like to be in one?’
“And there was a little awkward silence. It was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t do movies, I’ve never acted, I don’t do action.'”
Chad explained that the star was eventually persuaded to join the film after being invited to spend a day on set in Berlin with the director, lead star Keanu Reeves and the crew.
He recalled: “I (said), ‘Look, we like the way you perform, and I love your vibe. Would you at least fly to Berlin and meet us?’
“So, she flew from London to Berlin, spent the day with me, Keanu, and our stunt team, (she) did a little assessment. Having so much of a performance-dance background, she had a great mindset and a memory for choreography, and she has a natural ability to perform, and she’s got this vibe and charisma about her that obviously speaks for itself.”
Stahelski continued: “After the day, we all got together in the office later that night and said, ‘Do you want to give it a go?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’ She spent four or five weeks with the stunt team. It’s pretty crazy.”

Jason – the son of the late ‘Ghostbusters’ director Ivan Reitman – added: “A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1, and together we made ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’.

Linda Nolan reveals cancer has spread to her brain: ‘That’s obviously frightening’

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Nolan says she is stricken with fear as her cancer has spread to her brain.
The Nolans singer was first told she had stage three breast cancer in 2005 before being told she was tumour-free a year later, but has revealed the incurable hip cancer she was diagnosed with in 2017 has spread across her body to her head after she told how it had hit her liver in 2020.
The 64-year-old pop star told Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley on ITV1’s ‘Good Morning Britain’: “I’ve always been hopeful with my treatment and what’s going on in my life.
“I just want to tell you, unfortunately for me, my cancer has spread to my brain. That’s obviously frightening because there isn’t much treatment for brain cancer except for chemotherapy.”
Linda remained firm in her desire to fight the illness and asserted she was “not giving up”
She said: “I’m not giving up. I’m positive. I’m going to lose my hair again for the fourth time.”
The ‘I’m In The Mood For Dancing’ hitmaker added doctors had informed her a new treatment had been “hailed as a wonder drug” and she wants it to do “wonders for (her.)”
Over the weekend, images of Linda – who formed the Nolans with her sisters Bernie, Maureen, Anne and Denise in 1963 before they were joined by the now-‘Loose Women’ panellist Coleen in 1980 – circulated of her entering a local hospital, prompting her to reassure her followers an explanation as coming.
Linda wrote on Twitter: “Thank you all for the love and support, following those pictures coming out this weekend. I’ll be on @GMB tomorrow morning at 8:20am, with some news.”
The same day, a family member told the Daily Mirror: “Linda has been prone to falls, but it’s a common side-effect of the chemotherapy she was on. She had a series of falls a couple of weeks ago, just after her birthday.
“The family are extremely worried now and are rallying round to support and care for her. Linda doesn’t feel safe in her home alone now. Everyone’s hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.”

Maya Jama ‘lined up to host winter Love Island’

OHMYGOSSIP — Maya Jama is said to have been lined up to host the winter run of ‘Love Island’.
The former BBC Radio 1 DJ, 28, replaced Laura Whitmore, 37, to helm the show when it headed to South Africa this year.
And despite ratings for the January series slumping to their lowest in seven years, the show is reportedly being brought back later this year by ITV2.
A source told The Sun: “Maya has more than proved her worth and while the ratings weren’t the best, she came out on top.
“‘Love Island’ have already informed the owners of the £1.2 million villa in South Africa that they want to return there at the end of this year ahead of the winter 2024 show.
“With Maya at the helm for the summer series, ITV think she will only increase its popularity which they think will carry onto the next winter edition.
“Maya was crowned the winner of Love Island when her debut episode aired and ITV think she will only continue to make TV gold for them.”
This year’s ‘Love Island’ winners Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan, both 24, who shared the dating show’s £50,000 jackpot, recently spoke out to deny rumours they had got engaged.
Kai had last week teased a proposal when the pair appeared together on radio station BBC Asian Network.
The following day, Kai and Sanam addressed the rumours during a question and answer session on his Instagram.
When one fan asked: “Are you engaged? Hope it’s true. You guys are perfect,”
Kai responded: “We’re just going to clear this one up and let the world know. “We are… .”
Sanam then stepped in to finish the line, saying: “Not engaged.”
Kai joked: “No, we are. We are,” before Sanam added: “No, we’re not engaged. There’s no ring.”
Kai then insisted: “Not yet, but we will be. We promise you we will be,” while
Sanam added it may happen “one day”.
