‘It was wild!’ Regé-Jean Page reveals how he got into character for Dungeons and Dragons movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Regé-Jean Page played a “big game” of ‘Dungeons’ and Dragons’ with his castmates to get into character for the movie adaptation.
The 34-year-old actor stars as Xenk Yendar in the movie adaptation of the classic board game – which sees players embark on epic quests and level up in fantasy worlds – and revealed that just before shooting ‘Honour Among Thieves’, he and his castmates Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Hugh Grant, Chloe Coleman, and Daisy Head all sat down together to play the game.
He told ScreenRant: “That was the most fun part of this journey, in terms of finding that dynamic with the cast. First and foremost, it was incredibly easy because you have the privilege of working with an incredibly sharp, incredibly talented, very creative cast. The way that we did that initially was we played a big game of ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ together before we shot the movie, which is a very natural thing for actors to do. We very easily slipped into that.”
The ‘Bridgerton’ star went on to add that it was a “wild” exercise to carry out but explained that it was way of finding a “dynamic” between himself and his castmates before the cameras started to roll.
He added: “We got to try out the characters in a game setting. It was wild. I’ll tell you that much. It was chaotic. Folks are very, very quick and improvisational on this cast, and it’s essentially an improv game, and so everyone’s playing “Yes, and…” And so you think of the wildest, craziest thing you can do, and then you have the privilege of having Chris Pine sit next to you, and he’ll take that and run with it and blow it up and make it crazier. Michelle Rodriguez is on the other side, she blows it up, makes it even crazier than that.
“And so you start finding the ways that your dynamic works together and all the unpredictable things that happened on set. You got all the seeds of that when we actually just played together, which is what acting’s meant to be in the first place.”
‘Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves’ is in cinemas now.

Seth Rogen hints Donkey Kong character could land Fast and Furious-style spin-off movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Seth Rogen has hinted his Donkey Kong character could be part of a ‘Fast and Furious’-style spin-off movie.
The 40-year-old actor voices the anthropomorphic necktie-wearing gorilla in forthcoming computer-animated fantasy film ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, and has admitted there is “a lot of opportunity” for the primate to land a standalone project.
He told Collider: “There’s a lot of opportunity there. I think the family unit of the Kongs seems to be – and if the ‘Fast and Furious’ movies have taught us anything [it’s] that it’s all about family.”
Rogen also admitted there is a motoring link between car franchise ‘Fast and Furious’ and Donkey Kong and his go-kart-loving family, who include Cranky, Diddy, Dixie and Tiny Kong.
He added: “They’ve got those go-karts. There’s a lot of crossover!”
Earlier this week, Rogen admitted his approach to playing Donkey Kong was to ensure he had a “good comedic dynamic with the other characters” and that he could be comical in scenes.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “The voice sounds like me. I’ve done a lot of these. I don’t change my voice. I’m not one of those actors.
“For me [it was about] finding a way that the character has a good comedic dynamic with the other characters and making sure I feel like I can just be funny in the scenes. That was my approach to Donkey Kong.
“Where that landed was this idea that he just hates Mario [voiced by Chris Pratt] and that he’s really annoyed that he’s stuck with him the whole movie.”

Coronation Street hit with Ofcom complaints following acid attack scenes

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ has been hit with 73 Ofcom complaints amid the soap’s acid attack plot.
The UK’s communications regulator revealed several people have complained about the ITV show, after Monday night’s (27.03.23) episode when character Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) threw himself in the firing line of stalker Justin Rutherford’s (Andrew Still) corrosive chemical assault on bride Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan).
A number of viewers were shocked by the scene, and took to social media to air their views.
One wrote: “This is too much.”
Another posted: “Can’t believe Coronation Street would air something like that! Shocking!”
Earlier this week, actor Ryan told how he now has to spend two hours a day in makeup to have layered pieces of prosthetic put on accurately and taken back off, after his character was the victim of the attack.
When asked on ‘This Morning’ how long it takes to put his new prosthetics on, he said: “About an hour, and about an hour off. They’re getting quicker though.
“The hardest thing is to match direct continuity, with colouration. It’s layered pieces of prosthetic with Bondo, and then the colouration can take time as well. They have to match it to the scene before.”
Princess Anne visited the ‘Corrie’ set earlier this month as Patron of The Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), to speak to Ryan and his co-stars about the hard-hitting plot.
And Ryan admitted everyone was surprised how “well versed” she was about the soap.
He said: “She was extremely well versed in all things ‘Coronation Street’, so I think the few of us at the studio are hoping she is a bit of a fan. It would be nice.
“It was really lovely to have her in the studio. She came into the Rovers and we talked through the scene.”

Brenda Blethyn returning to Vera for 13th series

OHMYGOSSIP — Brenda Blethyn is to return to ‘Vera’ for a 13th series.
The 77-year-old actress will also welcome back actor and director David Leon, who will return as Joe Ashworth.
It comes as actor Kenny Doughty, who played DS Aidan Healey since 2015, recently announced his departure from the drama, and actress Ibinabo Jack, who has played DC Jacqueline ‘Jac’ Williams since 2018, will not be returning for the 13th series due to her theatre commitments.
Brenda said: “It’s been such a pleasure to work alongside Kenny and Ibinabo. They’ve both been terrific members of the Vera team, and I’ll miss them.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to welcome David back to the show and can’t wait to get started.”
‘Vera’ will return for three new feature length films, and returning cast members joining Brenda and David in the series include Jon Morrison, who plays DC Kenny Lockhart, and Riley Jones, who plays DC Mark Edwards.
Further castings and information about the new series will be announced when filming commences in the summer.
Kenny confirmed earlier this month that he had made the “difficult decision” to depart ‘Vera’.
He wrote on Instagram: “After 8 years and 35 Vera films I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge. I can confirm I am leaving Vera.
“I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy and inspiration Brenda Blethyn. The perfect leading star who I owe so much to. I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter and have been a rock for me over the years. I can’t thank you enough. Precious times. (sic)”
The former ‘Stella’ actor also thanked the ‘Vera’ fans for their support over the past eight years.
He added: “And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films. You really are the best fans in the world. Thank you so much for your loyalty and love for the show. X (sic)”

Eddie Murphy set for a part in The Pick Up

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Murphy is eyeing a role in ‘The Pick Up’.
The 61-year-old actor could be set to join the cast of the film that Amazon Studios are in final talks to acquire.
Tim Story is attached to direct the picture based on a script written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider and insiders say the prospect of the elements drove the bidding for the screenplay up to seven figures.
Sources have described it as a heist comedy in the style of ‘Bad Boys’, with Murphy set to play a character who becomes smitten with a woman and finds himself mixed up in a heist attempt.
The most recent script from Burrows and Mider, ‘Shots! Shots! Shots!’, was picked up by Universal with Jason Momoa set to star in and produce with Dan Lin.
Eddie is set to return as Axel Foley in the new movie ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley’ and explained that the involvement of producer Jerry Bruckheimer convinced him to return for the fourth film in the franchise.
The ‘Coming to America’ actor told Collider: “Jerry Bruckheimer, the original producer. When he got involved, and he started developing the script, and he knew what ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ was supposed to be.
“When he got back involved, that’s when it all started to come together. Because we tried for years and years, maybe 10, 12 years, and I must have read five or six different scripts, and it was never right. The studio was like, ‘Let’s go. Here it is.’ It was like, ‘It’s just not it.'”
Eddie added: “Jerry Bruckheimer got back in there, and he knows his s***, and he put it together. He did (‘Top Gun: Maverick’) just last year, and ‘Bad Boys’ is Jerry Bruckheimer.
“So we have that same brain behind ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, and he put all the pieces in place that were required for us to make a great movie. And I’m excited for people to see it.”

Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander starring in Hope

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander are to star in the thriller ‘Hope’.
The husband and wife are set to play key roles in the new feature from the South Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin.
The predominantly Korean-language movie follows the residents of Hopo Port, where a mysterious discovery is made on the outskirts of the remote harbour town.
The residents soon find themselves in a desperate fight for survival against something that has never been encountered before.
It is understood Fassbender and Vikander will speak English in the film and were keen to feature after being impressed by the director’s previous work – which includes the 2016 hit ‘The Waiting’.
It will mark the second time the couple have featured together in the same film after ‘The Light Between Oceans’.
Additional casting and pre-production is underway for a shoot later this year in South Korea.
Korean producer-distributor Plus M Entertainment are providing financial support for the project.
Na said: “Oftentimes, a person’s goodwill can lead to unintended catastrophe simply because of differences in perspective. My hope for this film is to cinematically capture that phenomenon in a way that has yet to be seen.”
On the decision to finance the movie, Plus M said: “Director Na’s new project ‘Hope’ is not only a high-quality film but an enthusiastic project that has the potential to expand its IP to various content distribution channels.
“Above all, we’ve decided to invest in this project because we have the utmost trust in director Na’s creative vision. Plus M will collaborate and support ‘Hope’ to make it a global success.”

Questlove is directing Aristocats live action remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Questlove is directing Disney’s upcoming ‘The Aristocats’ remake.
The Roots drummer – whose real name is Ahmir Thompson – will be at the helm of the new film, which will be a mix of live action and CGI, as he continues with his filmmaking career.
As first reported by Deadline, Questlove will oversee music for the movie as well as serving as executive producer, while ‘Peter Rabbit’ director Will Gluck and ‘Onward’ writer Keith Bunin are adapting the screenplay.
The original 1970 animated feature focused on pampered cat Duchess and her three kittens Marie, Berlioz and Toulouse.
The four felines live in Paris and are set to inherit a massive future from their owner, Madame Adelaide Bonfamille.
However, when her jealous butler Edgar hears about the plans, he kidnaps the kitties and tries to get them out of the picture.
They end up teaming with smooth talking alley cat Thomas O’Malley and a memorable cast of characters as they embark on a long journey home.
Along the way, the movie features classic songs like ‘The Aristocats’, ‘Ev’rybody Wants To Be A Cat’, ‘Thomas O’Malley Cat’ and ‘Scales and Arpeggios’.
The planned remake is the latest in a long line of Disney classics getting the live action treatment.
‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Lilo and Stitch’ are currently in the pipeline, while previous successes including ‘The Lion King’, ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, Aladdin’, Dumbo’, ‘Mulan’ and ‘Lady and the Tramp.’
Questlove turned his attention to filmmaking with ‘Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)’, which tells the untold story of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival.
Debuting at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, the movie landed the grand jury prize before being honoured with the Academy Award for best documentary.

Liv Tyler to reprise Incredible Hulk role in Captain America New World Order

OHMYGOSSIP — Liv Tyler is to star in ‘Captain America: New World Order’.
The 45-year-old actress will reprise her role as ‘The Incredible Hulk’ scientist Betty Ross – the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross – in the fourth film in the ‘Captain America’ franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Tyler appeared as the cellular biologist opposite Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/ Hulk in the 2008 movie, but he was later replaced by Mark Ruffalo for 2012 movie ‘The Avengers’.
In ‘Captain America: New World Order’, Harrison Ford will portray General Thaddeus after taking over the role from William Hurt, following the actor’s death aged 71 in March 2022.
Anthony Mackie is to portray Sam Wilson/ Captain America in the movie, while Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson and Carl Lumbly are also among the ensemble cast for the film, which is scheduled for release in May 2024.
General Ross is a top-ranking military official who was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1962 and he leads the team of anti-heroes known as the Thunderbolts.
‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ creator Malcolm Spellman wrote the script for the superhero movie with the show’s staff writer Dalan Musson producing with Marvel chief Kevin Feige.
Ford had previously claimed that Marvel had “killed” the success of its superhero films by releasing too many of them.
Discussing his return as Indiana Jones in the upcoming fifth film, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, he said: “I don’t really want to give them what they wanna see, I want to give them something they didn’t anticipate seeing. The Marvel movies are a spectacular example of a success that worked the other way round – they killed it.”

Gordon Ramsay’s Next level Chef axed after one series

OHMYGOSSIP — Gordon Ramsay’s ‘Next Level Chef’ has been cancelled after just one series.
The ITV cooking competition – which saw 12 aspiring chefs battling to impress the 56-year-old star along with judges Paul Ainsworth and Nyesha Arrington with the winner getting a £100,000 prize and year of mentoring – hasn’t been renewed for a second run.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Gordon is highly competitive and he’s gutted the series wasn’t given a second run.
“These types of shows always take a while to get going and for viewers to connect, so he thinks it wasn’t really given a proper chance.
“But he accepts TV is a brutal world and sometimes shows just don’t work out.”
The first and only series aired earlier this month with social media chef Jade Greenhalgh winning the competition.
An ITV spokesman said: “There are no current plans for a second series but viewers can watch series one on ITVX.”
Thankfully for Gordon, he has ‘Future Food Stars’ returning to BBC One for a second series starting later this year.
As with the first series, the show will see 12 contestants looking for investment in culinary businesses as they take on a range of food challenges.
Meanwhile, Gordon will be returning for another ‘Road Trip’ on ITV with Fred Sirieix, while bosses are hoping Gino D’Acampo will change his mind and return to the show despite some contract issues.
An insider recently told the Mail Online: “Bosses hope to convince Gino to stay on with Gordon and Fred, because they genuinely have fun together and make great telly.”
Gino had revealed he “decided not to film any more” road trips, but insisted it was “nothing to do with Gordon or Fred”, noting their “friendship is very strong”.
He said in an Instagram video: “It’s just because we can’t get the dates together and sometimes when we do get the dates together sometimes they get changed and it causes a lot of problems for me because I have other stuff that I have to do.
“Personal problems as well because when I have to change things with my family it is very complicated and also because [of] contracts.”

David Jason ‘delighted’ to discover he has 52-year-old daughter he didn’t know existed

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Jason has made the shock discovery he has a 52-year-old daughter he didn’t know existed.
The ‘Only Fools and Horses’ legend, 83, recently found out he is the father of actress Abi Harris and a grandfather to her 10-year-old son Charlie, and David’s wife Lady Gill White, 62, and 22-year-old daughter Sophie, have welcomed the pair into their family with open arms.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “To say it was a surprise to find out I had a daughter from years ago is an understatement.
“However, on settling with the news, I am delighted that I am now able to get to know Abi and so we meet up when we can.
“My wife, Gill, and daughter, Sophie, have been very supportive and understanding and have embraced Abi and welcomed her and her young son into her now wider family.”
Abi – who has appeared in ‘Doctor Who: The Eighth of March’ – was born in October 1970 after David had a brief relationship with her mum, actress Jennifer Hill, who he starred alongside in Dylan Thomas’s ‘Under Milk Wood’ at London’s May Fair theatre.
David spent some time with Abi and Charlie over the festive period at his home in Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire.
The ‘Open All Hours’ star is said to have gifted Charlie a John Lewis Build Your Own Electronics Set for Christmas.
Charlie is also said to enjoy repairing items in the ‘A Touch of Frost’ actor’s workshop, and likes helping him to collect eggs laid by David’s chickens.
A source told the publication: “It’s early days, but they are meeting up when they can during holidays.
“They want to become closer until things feel even more open and relaxed. And now there are two new sisters who want to get to know each other, too.”
Abi had an inkling David might be her biological father after hearing about her time with Jennifer – who starred in ‘Doctor Who’ and 1983 James Bond film ‘Octopussy’ – and she noticed she had a similar shaped nose to ‘The Darling Buds of May’ star.
She decided to write David a letter, quoting a line from Dylan’s play, and asked if would take a paternity test, which he agreed to.
After the result showed he was Abi’s father, the pair met up at the Landmark Hotel in Marylebone, Central London.
Abi has admitted she feels “tickled pink and incredibly proud” at discovering David is her dad, but is also “completely overwhelmed with sorrow” for the years she didn’t know.
She said: “In discovering my father’s identity, I am starting to piece together my own.
“Of course, I am tickled pink and incredibly proud but, frequently, completely overwhelmed with sorrow for the years we have lost.
“After a measured start, now I hope we can consciously make time to see each other more often, so that I can master the art of being the best big sister and build a meaningful father-daughter relationship in its truest sense.”
Abi had believed Jennifer’s husband, ‘Miss Marple’ actor Geoffrey Davion, was her dad until he passed away in 1996.

Kate Garraway ‘really hoping’ husband Derek Draper can ‘build on’ recent trips outside

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper has been getting “short bursts of fresh air” to aid his recovery in recent weeks.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter is said to be “really hoping” her 55-year-old significant other – who still needs round-the-clock care after he suffered significant organ damage when he contracted COVID in 2020 – can “build on” the trips outside with his nurse.
A family friend told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Over the last couple of weeks Derek’s been going in and out of hospital for a number of ongoing appointments and tests, as a number of referrals he has been waiting for since his first release from hospital in April 2021 have come through.
“Even though he can only sit for very short periods of time, the medical teams are now very keen he gets short bursts of fresh air with his nurse to aid his recovery.
“Derek’s friends and Kate are really hoping he can build on this.”
Derek went into hospital in March 2020 and was placed into a medically-induced coma.
He later returned home in April 2021, but still needs 24/7 care.
Earlier this month, Kate admitted watching Derek battle through his illness has made her “fall in love with him all over again”.
She told The Sun newspaper: “There are some days where he literally cannot do anything and it’s like the computer is switched off.
“He cannot move, and he’s in so much pain as we are manipulating him, trying to get him more mobile so that he doesn’t regress.
“I always ask him if he wants to stop, and he grunts ‘no. no’.
“It is unbearable, and it makes me emotional even talking about it.
“But it also makes me fall in love with him all over again because of that spirit, that determination to keep going.
“Derek is trapped, but he fights on. We cling on to the good days.”

Chris Pine thinks Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will help film fans to escape

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pine believes that ‘Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ will provide escapism for film fans.
The 42-year-old actor stars as Edgin Darvis in the movie based on the role-playing game of the same name and hopes that the fantasy flick gives viewers a chance to get away from real-world problems.
Chris told Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie on Sunday (26.03.23): “I’ve seen this film probably more than I’ve seen many of my other films because I love watching it with an audience.
“To come out and see audience’s faces, you see exactly what cinema should do, which is people are, like, alive. They want to talk about it. They’re in a great mood.
“The world is so s***** so why not use this vehicle – big budget cinema – to make people feel better.”
Pine revealed that he drew inspiration from classic 1980s movies for the role of Edgin.
The ‘Wonder Woman’ star said: “There’s like a bit of the swashbuckler to this guy in the world, which I love.
“I’m an 80s baby. So all of my reference were 80s. So this movie to me was like ‘Goonies’, ‘NeverEnding Story’, it was a bit of ‘Indiana Jones’. Fast forward, and maybe it’s a bit of ‘Pirates’. All kind of mashed together with his big heart.”
Chris was also relieved that he didn’t have to do any stunts for the movie, which also features Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page and Hugh Grant.
He said: “I don’t do any stunts in this film. Nothing. I have no action. All I do is run. Run away from s***.
“All these poor schmucks had to do all this martial arts training on the weekends and I was taking walks on the beach. I was reading, caught up on my Netflix. I had a great time.”

Daisy May Cooper and her brother Charlie shoplifted pre-fame to ‘survive’

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy May Cooper and her brother Charlie shoplifted before becoming famous.
The ‘This Country’ creator has told how she and her sibling spent some of their pre-fame days doing questionable things to “survive”.
The 36-year-old actress and writer told the Radio Times magazine: “Me and Charlie used to shoplift all the time.
“He used to put a chicken through as onions at the supermarket self-service because onions obviously cost so much less.
“He got caught and we were followed around after that. It’s awful, but you do what you have to do to survive.”
Daisy admitted it was “not right morally” before mentioning Robin Hood, who stole from the rich to feed the poor as a figure – however mythical – people regard as “great”, despite the illegality of what he did.
The ‘Don’t Laugh, It’ll Only Encourage Her’ author first detailed her and Charlie’s childhood in Gloucestershire was spent in “rural poverty” at the time of the book’s 2021 publication, and that she worked in a “myriad of low-paid, unrewarding jobs” before hitting the big time and the impact it had on her.
Daisy told the Guardian newspaper: “Because you’ve got no self-respect. You’re always on the back foot, so you can’t even have normal relationships. Even friendships because you can’t afford to meet for coffee.”
The ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ team captain admitted to relating to the 2019 Bong Joon Ho movie ‘Parasite’ – which follows a debt-ridden family working for an out-of-touch, wealthy family – while revealing it was “just” what her upbringing was like.
Daisy said: “It was just what our family was like. Especially at the beginning, where they’re all trying to get WiFi in the house. It was so chaotic. You’re just trying to get through to the end of the day. And that’s what’s amazing about money. Money gives you choices. Money gives you self-respect.”

Sanam Harrinanan ‘can’t go back’ to her old job after Love Island win

OHMYGOSSIP — Sanam Harrinanan “can’t go back” to her old job after winning ‘Love Island’.
The 24-year-old reality television personality scooped victory and half of the £50,000 prize pot alongside her man Kai Fagan, 24, on the ITV2 dating show, but she cannot return to her social worker role following the ITV2 dating competition.
The star told HeatWorld: “I can’t go into social work again, I don’t think I’ll be able to.
“But I’ve got a meeting about it this week with my social work manager, because I want to be able to use this platform to help children locally.”
“[Kai and I] spoke about doing stuff afterwards. We can’t go directly into it but we can use our platforms to do something.”
Before his TV career, Kai – who she struck up a romance with during the Casa Amor segment of the show – worked as a PE teacher, and he is now keen to “do the same things” but in a “different capacity”.
Sanam said: “Everything is so hectic at the minute but once everything has slowed down then that’s when we can really step away and have a think about what we’re doing to do.”
The couple – who received 40 per cent of the public vote during the recent winter edition of the show – recently got tongues wagging when Kai joked they were engaged after she was spotted with a ring on her finger.
During a fan Q+A, he told his followers on Instagram when asked if they were betrothed: “We’re just going to clear this one up and let the world know. We are…”
Sanam – who was sat next to him in a branch of pub chain Wetherspoons – interrupted, saying: “Not engaged.”
However, Kai continued the joke, adding: “No, we are. We are.”
Sanam said: “We’re not engaged.”
Kai went on: “We will be. We promise you, we will be.”
