Ghosts cast knew 2 years ago the show was ending

OHMYGOSSIP — Kiell Smith-Bynoe has revealed the cast of ‘Ghosts’ found out two years ago that the show was ending after five seasons.
The BBC decided to wave goodbye to the inhabitants of Button House to “focus on new projects”, and Kiell, who plays Mike Cooper, has revealed last week’s news came as no surprise.
He told RadioTimes.com: “We found out two years ago.
“So when we got series four and five commissioned by the BBC, [the writers] decided that those would be the last two.
“And then, even when we were doing [series] 4, it didn’t really feel like it was coming to an end soon because we knew that we had another whole year. [The shoot] feels like a whole year despite the fact it’s only 10 weeks.”
On filming the final series, he added: “And then, we started the fifth one and very quickly realised that it would be the last time doing things – in terms of, the last time seeing the plague victims and the last time wearing a certain outfit for the character.
“And then it was over in a flash. So despite the fact I said two years and it seems like it’s been a really long time that we’ve known, it’s gone by incredibly quickly.”
The ‘Ghosts’ team – which includes writers and creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond – confirmed in March: “After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace.
“We have just wrapped filming on our fifth and final series and we can’t wait to share it with you all later this year.
“We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC1 and Monumental Television for their tireless support.
“But most of all we’d like to thank everyone who watches. Mathew, Martha, Simon, Jim, Laurence and Ben x.”
Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie also star in the beloved sitcom.
In the upcoming fifth series, Alison (Charlotte) and Mike (Kiell) begin exploring other means of making ends meet and contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge effect on the Ghosts’ after lives.
Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy at the BBC, said: “We are officially in mourning for the end of this BBC comedy classic.
“We can’t thank the ‘Ghosts’ team enough for five incredible series (not to mention some perfect Christmas Specials) and we can’t wait for BBC viewers to see the final series. We look forward to working with the team on new projects.”
Alison Carpenter, Creative Director at Monumental, added: “We are so proud of ‘Ghosts’, and particularly the way that audiences have taken it to their hearts.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for the creativity, talent and hard work that every single cast and crew member has brought to it over the five series, starting with the brilliant creators and stars of the show. The Ghosts family is a very happy one, and we’ll miss it.”

Daisy Ridley returning to Star Wars

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Ridley is returning to ‘Star Wars’.
The 30-year-old actress portrayed Rey in the most recent trilogy in the franchise and at ‘Star Wars Celebration’ in London on Friday (07.04.23) she revealed she is “thrilled” to be stepping back into the role for a film which will be set 15 years after 2019’s ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’.
Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy explained the film will “tell the story of rebuilding the New Jedi Order and the powers that rise to tear it down”.
She added: “I’ve always been attracted to the hero’s journey and the fact that the world needs many more heroes.”
The filmmaker added she had been immersing herself in a Jedi Academy with a “powerful Jedi master” and Daisy then walked out on stage.
She said: “My heart is pounding. I’m very thrilled to be continuing this journey.”
The event also revealed two other ‘Star Wars’ films in the pipeline, including one from James Mangold and another from ‘The Mandalorian’ executive producer Dave Filoni and producer Jon Favreau.
‘Logan’ filmmaker James will be delving into the past to tell the tale of the first Jedi to “wield the Force and harness it as a liberating power in an era of chaos and oppression”, while the third film will be set in the present, and will document the escalating war between the Imperial Remnant and the fledgling New Republic in a plot that promises to “being together many of the threats of the ‘Star Wars’ original series”.
Just a few weeks ago, Daisy claimed she had “no idea” if she’d ever return to ‘Star Wars’.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “Honestly, I have no idea. I feel like Rey’s story ended in a wonderful way with the last film (‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’).
“It’s already been an insane three years since that film came out. I feel like quite a different person. We’ve all gone through a massive change in the last three years, with lots of crazy things happening.
“So I really don’t know if there are plans. I just don’t know. But ultimately, I loved my experience, I loved what I got to do and I love the people I got to work with.”

‘I try to be as immersive as I can!’ Why Angel Manuel Sotoshot Blue Beetle in Imax

OHMYGOSSIP — Angel Manuel Soto shot ‘Blue Beetle’ in IMAX because he likes his movies to be as “immersive” as possible.
The 40-year-old director a big fan of the firm that manufactures high-resolution lenses, film codecs, projectors, and movie theater equipment and decided to utilise it for the production of the upcoming DC movie so cinema audiences could feel a “physical connection” to it.
He told Collider: “IMAX is the s***. It’s the immersive aspect of it. I try to be as immersive as I can, with the projects that I do. The scope of IMAX allowed you to be swallowed whole into the frame. My relationship with cinema is very spiritual, and it almost feels like you can have a physical connection to it. In the same way that we try our best to bring the audience in and come into this dance, with the story and with the characters, IMAX just advances it a little further. It feels like you’re dancing with your partner, instead of just being alone in a room with it.”
The action movie -which stars Xolo Maridueña as a teenager who gains superpowers – was initially meant to be a TV project for streaming service HBO Max but Angel went on to explain that once work on the script had begun, the studio noticed that the project had “potential” for a cinematic release.
He said: ” That is true, at the beginning of it. Once we started writing the script and I started to create concept art, the studio allowed me to run free in my creativity. Unbeknownst to them and to me, at the time, they were able to see the promise of how we pictured a city, and how we really wanted the city to be, and the bigger realm of this cultural zeitgeist and the impact that this can have culturally, but also in the superhero genre, to try something different. We hoped that people will see it for what it is, which is that it has a lot of love and a lot of heart, and the studio felt like it had the potential to be theatrical.
“The stories that we’re telling and the topics that we’re touching upon, even though it’s very grounded, we’re picturing this as the first act of a big saga. We really wanted to make the things that sometimes appear to be small, due to clouding of privilege, actually be worse than an alien invasion to some people. It was about translating that into a movie where a superhero can actually be a superhero, and it doesn’t really have to be about saving the planet from this alien invasion, but it can actually be something that we can relate to, which for some of us is bigger than life. The studio saw the potential in that.”
‘Blue Beetle’ is due for release on 18 August 2023.

Damson Idris joins cast of Brad Pitt’s Formula One movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Damson Idris has joined the cast of Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One movie.
The movie stars Pitt, 59, “as a former driver who returns to the sport” of Formula One, while Idris, 31, joins the movie as his teammate.
The director of the untitled film is set to be Joseph Kosinski, 48, the filmmaker behind ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, while action film veteran Jerry Bruckheimer, 78, will co-produce.
F1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton has been recruited by film bosses as a consultant to train Brad for the Apple Studios movie.
Hamilton’s duties include teaching the A-lister everything he needs to know about motorsport, as well as lessons on how to get to grips with a 200mph-plus F1 car.
Hamilton will receive an executive producer credit for his work on the title.
Kosinski has previously promised “in-camera thrills” on the upcoming movie, as he revealed that he will be using effects created solely by the camera to make viewers feel like they are behind the wheel at 200mph.
Joseph told The Wrap: “Certainly seeing people react to an in-camera, authentically captured film like ‘Top Gun’ makes us feel all good that our approach works and is appreciated by audiences.
“It’s almost funny to me to see people who are so enamoured with real photography. Younger people almost haven’t seen a lot of it. They’re so used to CGI being a tool of big movies that when you shoot something for real, it feels innovative.
“That’s exactly the approach for ‘Formula One’… to shoot at the real races and real cars and capture it. It’s going to be a huge challenge but an exciting one for me.”

Michael Jordan ‘too majestic to have anyone impersonate him’ in Air

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck says Michael Jordan is “too majestic to have anyone impersonate him” in ‘Air’.
Although the movie tells the story of NBA superstar Jordan’s collaboration with Nike, Ben said it was a “deliberate choice” to only show shots of magazine covers and snippets of archival footage of the real-life player.
Ben said: “How do you tell a story about Michael Jordan and never see him? When you are that person, when you become so much more than a hero or an athlete or even an icon, you start to become an idea to people. You touch them and just start to represent hope and excellence and greatness. You are one of a kind. And there is no way I was ever going to ask an audience to believe that anybody other than Michael Jordan was Michael Jordan. Which was also out of my own naked self interest, frankly, because I knew it would destroy the movie. You will see him [in archival clips] in the movie, but you will see Michael Jordan as he truly is in his authentic masterful genius which exists for all of us to see. It was a deliberate choice. I thought he was too majestic to have anyone impersonate him and – as I told him – ‘You’re too old to play the part.'”
Ben added in a press statement: “Michael Jordan is so famous that I truly felt if we ever saw an actor playing it would be hard to get the audience to suspend their disbelief, because, in my opinion, there’s no convincing anybody that someone who isn’t Michael Jordan is Michael Jordan. We felt a more interesting way to tell the story would be for him to exist in the ether of the movie. To be talked about by everyone but not seen is somewhat analogous to the experience of celebrities and sports stars in modern life, because most people go their whole lives without ever meeting or seeing their favourite sports star or celebrity in person. So we only see Michael in clips and flashes. We don’t ever fully see him in person because to see him in person would be to put his feet on the ground in a way that the movie doesn’t want to do.”

Jon Landau: Hollywood didn’t want Avatar

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Landau struggled to get studios interested in ‘Avatar.’
The 62-year-old producer is known for his partnership with director James Cameron on the 1997 Oscar-winning blockbuster ‘Titanic’ but revealed that when the pair were trying to get the 3D epic science fiction franchise ‘Avatar’ off the ground less than a decade later, it was tricky to sell the idea to Hollywood studios while the technology was not there.
He told HeyUGuys: “So Jim wrote ‘Avatar’ before we ever started filming ‘Titanic’ but we knew the technology did not exist to tell the story the way we wanted to tell the story. So we put it on the back burner and put it on the back burner until 2005 when we looked at the landscape of technology and said ‘We could be the impetus to push it to the next level where we could finally make this movie. And it wasn’t about the 3-D, it was about the characters, it was about the world and putting them up there where they could be emotive and engaging.”
Jon went on to explain that the pair eventually secured a development deal with 20th Century Fox for the movie – which went on to become overtake ‘Titanic’ as the highest-grossing film of all time whilst its two sequels claimed became the second and third highest-grossing respectively – but admitted that even being presented with a prototype, the studios were still hesitant to greenlight the project.
He added: “And we went up to the studio at Fox at the time and we asked them to support us for a year, which they said yes to. We did a prototype test, that was very crude and we thought that was our floor, not our ceiling. We presented them with a whole package in 2006 but they weren’t sure people would go see a movie with blue people had tails. After a series of circumstances, we were finally able to make the movie but it was not easy even after coming off of ‘Titanic.’

Katherine Ryan’s All That Glitters axed

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan’s ‘All That Glitters: Britain’s Next Jewellery Star’ has been axed by the BBC.
The 39-year-old comedian’s show ran for just two seasons before it was reportedly cancelled by the channel, even though it averaged at 2.3 million viewers across the series, according to TVZone.
The show first aired in 2021 and saw eight talented jewellers compete to become the next big name in jewellery design at a specially-built workshop in Birmingham.
Season two featured a memorable cameo from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas for a “very tense” challenge.
Katherine previously told the BBC: “It was amazing to have Shirley Ballas as a celebrity guest client. It was a very tense challenge for the jewellers who were all desperate to have their piece worn on an episode of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
“There are some real gut-wrenching moments this series too where pieces break at the last minute or just that the jewellers just don’t finish in time. You spend so much time with them you want everyone to do well and when it goes wrong it’s awful. But it does make great TV.”
The former ‘Campus’ star – who also presented the first series of ‘All That Glitters’ alongside Solange Azagury-Partridge and Shaun Leane – went on to explain that the success of the competition was down to the jewellers themselves, and noted that series one winner Hugo Johnson has gone on to “amazing things” since his victory.
She added: “Jewellery making is so visual and satisfying to watch, but it’s the jewellers themselves that make the show unmissable. They’re all so warm and different, and they all have uniquely compelling personalities and stories that they bring into their craft. Hugo, our winner from series one, has gone on to do amazing things and launched the most beautiful collections, I think he has been nominated for an award too. That’s pretty amazing. It’s a cliché but proves that this show really can change our jeweller’s lives.”

Crown forced to rewrite season six scenes due to scheduling issues with Gillian Anderson

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Crown’ writers have had to change the script for season six, after it was revealed that Gillian Anderson will not be returning.
The 54-year-old actress previously played former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on the show but after scheduling conflicts prevented her from reprising the role, ‘The Crown’s writers had to hastily rewrite some of the scripts.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Gillian’s portrayal of Thatcher was met with global critical acclaim and she was a huge asset to ‘The Crown’.
“It had been hoped she would be able to make an appearance in scenes around the golden wedding but sadly that has not been the case due to scheduling issues.
“As ever with the series, clever scripting will mean viewers will be none the wiser.
“It’s been another blow for producers in what’s already been a fairly dogged production.”
Gillian’s portrayal of Thatcher in season four won her an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
Meanwhile, Gillian previously insisted that ‘The Crown’ has made the royal family “more internationally loved, celebrated and understood”.
She told Total Film magazine: “It’s a drama. There’s a lot of researchers involved and a lot of people checking and double-checking and triple-checking.
“There’s a lot that has not been written about that could be written about.
“And if you knew the difference in those, you’d see there is a great deal of kindness and restraint.
“And I think at the end of the day, there are incredibly compassionate and well-rounded takes on human beings.
“And what you’re left with is properly, maturely drawn, complex characters.
“And there’s a lot that’s in there that one has to say; if you didn’t do it, we wouldn’t be writing about it.
“I think the whole family is more internationally loved, celebrated and understood in a way that they wouldn’t be were it not for the show.”

The ‘Great British Bake Off’ star is a huge hit in the US and admitted that she can’t even walk down the street without being approached by “over the top” fans.
According to The Mirror, Prue, 83, said during the final night of her UK tour, ‘Prue Leith: Nothing in Moderation’: “I can’t walk down the street without them going, ‘Oh my God, it’s you!’
“You think they are going to have a heart attack because it is me. They are so over the top.
“They love ‘Bake Off’… when we were in LA, they were whooping and hollering. They are obsessed.”
Prue also revealed that she often misses the saucy jokes on ‘Bake Off’ as she doesn’t understand the innuendo.
She said: “‘I never get the joke. I don’t know whether I am too old. They are like teenage boys, Noel and Paul. Paul will start laughing at the word ‘sausage’. I never get it and always put my foot in it. Someone always sees something rude in what I have said.”
Prue recently revealed she can’t wait for Alison Hammond to join the show, alongside her, Paul Hollywood and Noel Fielding.
Speaking about departing host Matt Lucas, she said: ‘I love Matt Lucas and I’m sure we’ll be friends for life, but the fact is, when there were three men and me, because there were numbers of them, they just got sillier and sillier and I never understand the jokes.
“They can go into hysterics about the word sausage. They’re like four years olds. So, I’m looking forward to having a woman around.
“I think it’ll be fantastic, not only because of her character and her personality, but I like the fact she’s a woman.”

Sir David Attenborough won’t retire

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Attenborough won’t retire.
The 96-year-old television broadcaster and naturalist has been making programmes for over eight decades but has no plans to slow down in the near future.
When ‘Lorraine’ host Ranvir Singh said: “This is a very special moment because we think this is the last time he is going to do an in-person camera documentary?”, ‘Wild Isles’ producer Chris Howard replied: “Well I don’t know! David will keep going as long as he can. He’s not retiring, that’s for sure.”
Attenborough previously vowed to continue informing and entertaining the masses with his fun facts for years to come.
He told The Sun newspaper: “How long do I plan to keep going? As long as I’m vertical and people ask me to do it.
“It’s a marvellous time, why would I suddenly say, ‘Don’t bother’?”
Attenborough previously teased he has no plans to retire before he’s 100.
He said: “I see no reason whatsoever why I can’t live past 100. Earth has enough wonders to make more than three ‘Planet Earth’ series.
“The beauty of natural history programmes is they can appeal across all ages and all conditions and people can take out of it their own particular interests.”
And Attenborough thoroughly enjoys looking into life on land and sea, he’s got no desire to pay a visit to space.
He explained: “There’s no life in space.
“Here we’ve got this wonderful kaleidoscope, this fantastic world.”

Tetris producer Henk Rogers ‘cried’ when he saw the movie based on his famous video game

The 69-year-old entrepreneur secured the rights to the classic video game – which sees players match descending coloured pieces in order to clear them from the screen before it fills up – in the early 1980s and admitted that he was moved to tears by the new biopic, in which he is played by Taron Egerton.
He told Collider: “Well, for me, I remember I cried several times during the movie, and I don’t cry easily, but I was moved, you know? There was the bit where my wife comes home with my daughter, and she has to sing?
“Oh my gosh, that was so touching. Yeah, how can you not cry during that scene? But, I was blown away by the movie. It’s a movie! It’s not a documentary, it’s a movie. It’s a story, and you want to call it a thriller on steroids, whatever you want to call it, it’s a movie. It’s a real movie.”

He said: “Yes, and I feel very proud of my game, you know? This is a movie about Tetris, and the fact that they take the most important of the business life of my game is so touching for me. Jennifer Aniston ‘could not stop dancing’ on the set of Murder Mystery 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Aniston “could not stop dancing” on the set of ‘Murder Mystery 2.’
The 54-year-old actress stars as private detective Audrey Spitz alongside Adam Sandler in the Netflix action comedy and whilst shooting a wedding scene that appears early on in the movie, decided to keep moving even after the cameras had stopped rolling, according to her co-star.
Adam told Collider: “Well, this was five days of shooting, we shot a five-day wedding. Had a good time. Jennifer could not stop dancing. We were screaming, “Cut, cut!” And she’s like, “Watch this,” and just doing some cool stuff. It didn’t matter, [she]had a good time doing it.”
In the joint interview, Jennifer then revealed how she did not want to rehearse the dance sequence because she would rather not know how to do it.
She said: “Remember they wanted us to go and rehearse to not do it? And I said, “Why? I’d rather we really not know how to do it!”

‘I’m so sorry!’ Alison Hammond apologises for comments made on This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond would “never sing at the top of her lungs” in a theatre.
The 48-year-old TV star had been fronting an episode of ‘This Morning’ alongside Dermot O’Leary when during a chat with Vanessa Feltz, they were commenting on a recent incident at ‘The Bodyguard’ – which saw two theatergoers “forcibly removed” from the venue after loudly trying to sing along with Pussycat Dolls star Melody Thorton’s rendition of Whitney Houston classic ‘I Will Always Love You’ – when she claimed that she would be “devastated” had she been asked to remain quiet at the theatre.
Following backlash over the comments, Alison took to social media on Sunday (09.04.23) to insist she had “no idea” of the disruption actually caused.
She wrote on Instagram: “After reflection and the comments I made on Wednesday’s show | want to apologise to anyone who offended especially the incredibly talented theatre performers, who | have the upmost respect for.
“I had no idea the level of disruption audiences were causing and tried to make light of the topic on Wednesday’s show, for that, I’m truly sorry. I’m a great supporter of theatre and the arts and would never sing at the top of my lungs in any performance. I was wrong in what I said and I’ve given this a lot of thought over the past few days and believe I was wrong.” (sic)”
The former ‘Big Brother’ contestant went on to add that she had recently attended a performance ‘The Great British Bake Off: The Musical’ – which is based on the hit Channel 4 series of the same name – and been “left sick to [her] stomach” following the incident at ‘The Bodyguard’, during which police had to be called.
She added: “On Thursday evening I attended a performance of the GBBO the musical which I absolutely loved and gave it a standing ovation, theatre is a magical experience for me and my family.
“I want to use my platform for good as always and want to stand up with the performers, front of house and theatre staff especially after seeing what happened at The Bodyguard in Manchester which has made me sick to my stomach. Once again I’m truly sorry but trust me I will do better in the future. Alison x.”

Charlie Day’s ‘biggest regret’ over Ray Liotta’s final film

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Day’s “biggest regret” is that Ray Liotta did not live to see the reaction to their new movie ‘Fool’s Paradise’.
The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ star wrote and directed the comedy which features Ray – who died in May 2022 aged 67 – alongside actors including Kate Beckinsale, Adrien Brody, Jason Sudeikis, Ken Jeong, Edie Falco and John Malkovich but he passedaway 12 months before the film’s release – and Charlie feels bad about the delays which meant the actor never got to see the project hit cinemas.
Speaking on an episode of ‘Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist’, Day explained: “My biggest regret is that Ray is not going to get to see the audience see him.
“Ray would text me every three months like: ‘Hey, man, what’s going on with that movie we did? When is it getting out?’ And I would say: ‘Ray, I’m so sorry. I’m stuck back doing ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’ I have to deliver this season and as soon as I wrap, I’m going to get back into the editing room, so everything’s on hold’.”
He added of Liotta’s turn in the movie: “He delivers a performance that is, in my mind. I won’t say it’s ‘Goodfellas’ good, but it’s Ray Liotta good. It’s up to his standards of what he can do well.”
The movie is about a long-suffering publicist – played by Ken Jeong – who struggles to get his temperamental actor client out of his trailer and onto set. He stumbles across a man recently released from a mental health who resembled the actor – played by Day – and sets out on a mission to transform him into a movie star.
In the film, Liotta played a powerful Hollywood producer while Beckinsale was cast as a “leading lady”.
‘Fool’s Paradise’ is slated to hit cinemas on May 12.
